Hendrix is a very poor teacher. One problem I encountered with Hendrix’s teaching manner is he goes so quickly through his notes that it can be hard to follow. When he does give examples of problems he is unclear on how he gets the answer. Often time he
Heres the DL on Hindrix. He is a short little bald man who knows his stuff but teaches a very difficult class. He is unclear on how he reaches answers and will make all in class examples easy, then slam you on exams. Also he says class is easier as it goes on but NOT TRUE, ONLY GETS HARDER!!!
Hendrix is the funniest teacher ever, he makes jokes about himself all the time, it's great. The class is tough but if you go and do your work you'll be fine. He's a good teach, it's just difficult material.
Scott is a good teacher. He throws out one liners that kill you, and he really does want you to do well, it's just a lot of material for the amount of time you're in there. Be willing to dedicate time to studying for exams and doing homework every week. The exams are difficult, but you get out of it what you put in.
Hendrix wishes he was funny; he's just always hopped up on caffine. His class definately gets harder as it goes on. The in-class examples are extremely easy unlike the brutal test questions. Plus he goes through everything so fast it's very hard to get everything down he expects you to remember for the many comprehensive questions on the tests.
It's a hard class, but I felt like he gives plenty of time to each topic. He *is* one of the funniest teachers I've been around. Considering his class sizes, he's great at responding to emails.
Class is tough, but very doable if willing to put in the time. Covers a lot of info, and grade is purely dependent on tests so that sucks. Be ready to rock n roll from the first day and pay close attention in class and you will get through it.
Hendrix is not a good teacher. He goes way too fast through the material, and his tests are very hard. If you do not understand Finance very well, he is of no help! This class is tough and moves at a very fast pace. No one else teaches it, so you have to have him! Good Luck! Plus...he's not funny...
Hard class, but if you attend and practice problems between exams you will be ok. This is the hardest Finance class you will probably take, I graduated last May with a degree in Finance and this class was them most difficult because of the amount of material covered in such a short time. Just stick with it and you will be ok.
Ok, I took this class 4 years ago, and honestly, this guy is awesome. What you learn in this class is helpful. Pay attention!!!!!!!
He stutters constantly, gets off topic, and does examples very fast.
It's a hard class. He *is* one of the funniest teachers I've been around. Considering his class sizes, he's great at responding to emails.
This class was tough, and you have to attend. Hendrix is funny and, although he does go through the material quickly, he offers Wednesday night review sessions and he was always willing to help me outside of class. Not a good class for slackers.
Great teacher, pretty easy if you attend class. people who say the class is hard, dont go to class, don't use the study sessions, or don't know how to use a financial calculator.
Class would be easy if you go every day and PAY ATTENTION! Get the financial calculator right away and USE IT on the first exam!!!!
Tough class, not for weak students who feel they can waltz into the exam and pass the test. Hendrix makes you earn your grade, and that's what every teacher should do. Big ups to Mr. Hendrix.
Hendrix is a great teacher, is really willing to help students out, and is the hardest working teacher at K-State. The class isn't that hard if you attend class, take notes, and go to the review sessions on wednesday night.
Anyone that says Hendrix is hard either didn't go to class or study for the tests. The tests are not hard if you study the in class examples, go to the review sessions, and work over the sample problems he gives for the test. Work those and you will be fine. If you go into his office he is really helpful and will put you on the right track.
Go to class and ask for help if needed, he's uber willing to help when you ask for it.
Very easy class!!
My favorite professor at K-State. Study the old exams a lot and you'll be fine
Pay attention in class and ask for help. He is more than willing to help if you are willing to learn. Do not go into this class with a feeling that you will barely pass. Just put effort into the work you do and he will give you the grade deserved. (USE YOUR *FINANCIAL* CALCULATOR)!!!
WORST TEACHER EVER!!!!!!
He just mumbles and talks so fast you can't understand him. He also cannot write to save his life, so taking notes from the board is nearly impossible. He's got mood swings like a roller coaster and will intentionally write tests beyond difficult if he feels someone in the class has "disrespected" him.
Good teacher, hard class. Go to class, pay attention, take very good notes, study those notes, and do all of the practice exams. Very willing to help if you don't understand something and is a very quick responder to emails. As someone said before, he will give you the grade you deserved.
This class is the hardest I've had and so many people all together makes exams harder to take. A lot of work but did learn a lot.
Hendrix is a master of his subject and at times hard to keep up w/. He has little tolerance for those who don?t care to learn and only trying to get by. Get the ?Cadillac? calc. and it will help you a great bunch from the start!! Do the hw, take the online quizzes, and practice ALL the exams before the tests and you should pass w/ a B easily!
There is a reason this class has one of the highest fail rates at KState. Either you under stand Scott or you don't there is no in between. It doesn't matter if you attend or not either it clicks for you or it doesn't.
A Terrible teacher with a terrible handwritting, he makes the principle course up to a professional level which is sick
One of the hardest classes I've taken at K-State. It's definitely difficult, and Hendrix moves through the material very quickly. That said, you get out what you put into it, and he's more than willing to help you however he can.
Great teacher. Very helpful outside of class time. You will learn a lot, but you will definitely have to work to earn a good grade.
One of the hardest classes at KSU. He is very willing to help you almost any time outside of class. He moves through material very fast, and he tends to ramble, which just confuses things even more. Tests are difficult- Don't just study the night before the test, start reviewing a week ahead of time. Understand concepts, don't just memorize them.
Overall ok but exam is tricky
This guy rambles about so many things that shouldn't be involved in quizzes/exams, therefore it is important that you attend every class. He moves so quickly and does very little to work equations out, so make sure you get the financial calculator. Basically if want to pay for NOT learning, then this is the class for you.
Known as one of the hardest classes on campus. Tough concepts. Great teacher. funny. goes VERY fast through material. Voice is clear, except that he uses jargon and financial vocab that make it difficult to understand. interesting to listen to and give good financial advice. study early for exams!!
One of the harder classes I've taken at K-state. Hendrix is a good teacher though.
The class is challenging, which should be expected from a 400-level course. Scott is great. He is interesting and has a tremendous grasp of the subject. You will not find a teacher more willing to help students. He is CONSTANTLY available for additional assistance. Tests can be hard, and you'll likely have to work hard for a good grade
Professor Hendrix is the best professor I've ever had at KSU without a doubt. As for the actual class: Assuming you have any prior knowledge, a firm grasp of basic math concepts, and a desire to learn you will receive an A. Show up to class and pay attention. The tests are very similar to the old tests HE GIVES YOU.
He challenges you... As someone stated above, he gives you old exams but 60% of the test is completely different than the old exams so they are worthless. His T/F section on the test is really hard, he twists the words around too much and sets you up for failure. GOOD LUCK
Really rude to those who don't understand. Expects everyone to be smart and get the material immediately, if you don't GOOD LUCK. He talks super fast and is hard to keep up with in class. He gives you old quizzes to study, but I wasted time studying them when more than half of the material wasn't on the current tests. Avoid the class if you can.
literally the worst teacher I've ever had. loves his favorite teachers pet students but if you have a legit question he makes you feel like an idiot and belittles you. works problems fast and the tests are super hard. waste of money to have him as a teacher
You can't even find a teacher who is more likely to offer additional help like him. He is an expert in this area. Also, his grading system is very humanity and fair. If you pay enough effort in this class, you can get a decent grade. No as hard as others said.
Scott is one of the best teachers there. Show up to class, do the homework and work the old tests he gives you and there's no reason you can't do well in the class.
The class is called "Principles of Finance" but you're required to have advanced knowledge. The content is old and has many errors you need to keep track of. The feedback is short and cold. You won't get any "extra" help to explain step by step so consider a tutor to assist in walking you through steps, reasoning, approach. Text is discontinued!
The fact is, in his class he is catering to finance students. He lacks understand of the fact that this isnt a major specific class for most students in there. The fact is, finance is incredibly interesting but its not my major, and as much effort as I put into the course with in class problem he tends to throw a curveball on test.
Hendrix is a wonderful teacher. He is very knowledgeable in the field of Finance and he uses his experience to help you in the long run. The class is still very difficult; if you do not spend much time at all going into your test it will show. Be prepared to study for hours to fully grasp material.
One of the hardest classes I've taken at Kstate. You'll most likely need to study a lot for the tests. Reviewing the materials and extra problems online will help tremendously.
Best class I've taken!
It's a tough class, mostly bc exams are only 25 MC ?s. No room for error. Have to put in some time. Calculations are not too advanced, but take time to get used to. Scott goes a little fast in class, but he's a great instructor. Take advantage of all the resources given to you - tutors, prac. exams, Wed. sessions. Grading scale is VERY forgiving.
Hendrix was an absolutely incredible professor, but his style wont be for everyone. The class has a lot of material, so he moves quickly through the notes. Show up for class and pay attention, read the book if needed, and study several days before the exam. Be willing to practice the more difficult problems; he posts practice tests. Use them!
I finished in the top 10 students out of 350+ students. Great teacher & course, but there are difficulties in a large class. Here's what you need to know. It's very difficult. He moves VERY FAST, handwriting is hard to read, uncomfortable to ask questions in class. DO THE PRACTICE TESTS. AUDIO RECORD conceptual items he list aloud and doesn't write
Hendrix is a great teacher because he knows the subject incredibly well. He is a very smart man and cares a lot about his students. He takes the time to explain concepts and re-teach the math. His tests are tough, but he provides tools to help students be successful. He really cares about his students and loves his job and finance.
Do not believe the reviews that were clearly written by Finance majors. If you are not a finance major, this man will be the worst professor you have ever had. Wait until he is gone or someone else teaches it. There's a reason he teaches finance and doesn't work in business. He's completely insufferable.
It isn't necessarily that the material is difficult, it's just really hard to get a good grade in the class. Exams are only 25 questions each, 88% is an A, which means you can miss only 4 questions and you're already sitting on a B. Don't procrastinate on the online homework. Go to class to see him work examples of the formulas you cover.
He knows more about his subject than any other professor I've had. I'm not a business major but I learned a ton from him. Grades are extremely curved so if you have a bad exam you'll still be alright. Go to the tutors if you need to figure stuff out, and do all of the practice material he gives you and you'll do wel on his exams.
Hendrix is a great professor but you have to work hard to get a good grade. The course material isnt the most interesting but Hendrix makes it interesting. . He's also willing to help you outside of class if you are making an effort in the class. Overall, I had heard a lot of bad things about Hendrix and the class but I enjoyed it and learned a lot
Dr. Hendrix is a very tough grader, but he is fair. My biggest issue is that he has used the same material for so many years. He reuses tests, so you can only see details on missed questions by visiting campus. It is kind of ridiculous for an online course. You will learn a lot from him though. It is also material with real-life application.
AMAZING TEACHER. I was really scared to take this class because well, the word finance itself just scares me. But Scott makes the lectures enjoyable and is ALWAYS willing to give more examples until the problem is understood. The class is tough, but you are given ALL THE RESOURCES you need to succeed. You are going to have to put work into it.
Hendrix is a good guy and very nice, but he flys through material and talks really fast. He's been teaching for years and doesn't realize he needs to dumb it down for those who have no knowledge or interest in the field yet still have to take it. He twist questions on the test to where your approach is different then what you have practiced or seen
Hendrix is a good professor, he's knowledgeable and eager to teach his lectures everyday. Practice is the key to this class, practice the in class problems, seek out tutors, just put in the work and your grade will reflect that. The exams are tricky so don't think one all-nighter will get you ready for them.
Scott Hendrix is hands down one of if not the best professor you will ever have. He is an expert in his field and gives you real, valuable advice and examples. He cares about his students and his class; but it will be the hardest class you ever take. How to succeed: go to class, every tutoring session, and study at least a week ahead of tests.
When will Kansas State realize that we cannot get an introduction to finance from this guy. He is so singularly unimpressive. He has zero spark. He almost turned me away from finance were it not for my interaction with other finance faculty (Eric Higgins is awesome). Scott has his little fan following and bottomless beverage can and he's happy.
Taking this class won't be a walk in the park. Its not intro to finance, it is Principles of finance. To do well, go to class, tutors and make sure you leave an impression on him. I have never had a more caring and fair professor. He recognizes effort and he understands he teaches a tough subject.
It's not an easy class my any means, but as long as you do the practice problems and show up to class you will be fine. I worked the old exams posted online a week before the test. Scott is a good professor who makes himself available whenever you need him. The day of the exam if you come to class with any questions he will work them for you.
Awesome dude!
Great professor , HIGHLY recommend taking this class with him over Wilkenson especially if you are a finance major
Hendrix was a great teacher, and I really learned a lot from him. His tests can be tough, but he really cares about his students and would always be willing to answer any questions outside of class. He is also a great asset after you finish taking his class, so it would be wise to get to know him.
Hendrix is a great professor who is willing to help you when you deem it necessary. You need to go to class or you will not understand the concepts and be completely lost going forward. This class will be very challenging if you do not put in the necessary effort but you will learn a lot from it.
He talks and writes fast but he is a good teacher, if he knows you put effort into the class he will give you an A even thought you have as low as an 84% if you don't give up.
Hendrix flys through the material and is very condicending to people asking questions, especially if you aren't a finance major. He words tests in a different way than the practice exams which makes them difficult.
This is definitely a class you have to show up for even though attendance isn't required. Hendrix is very knowledgable but moves through his lectures at a very fast pace. The class has a fairly large curve. Do well on the tests because those are the only points in the class. The Finance tutors are very knowledgable and helpful for this class.
Sometimes Scott seemed to pride himself in that "Finance 450 is the hardest class at K-State" (which is 100% untrue). His lectures are very fast-paced, and he is not very good with technology. Also, his handwriting is not very legible. Make sure you are there (mentally and physically), study for exams using provided material and you're set.
This is one of the hardest classes at K-State. I would have failed this class if it wasn't for his VERY generous curve at the end of the semester. Tests are very hard and there's a lot to learn.
I really enjoyed this class. It's definitely not a walk in the park but he gives you everything you need to get an A in the class it just takes time to learn the material. If you have a question go see him or the tutors, they are very helpful. Only down side to him is that he goes extremely fast.
If you are not a finance or accounting major, do not take this class. It is extremely difficult. You are graded by two tests with about 30 questions each. He gets frustrated if you don't get the material and ask him about it. He will make fun of questions that students ask in class. He is not accessible outside of his set hours. Don't do it.
GO TO CLASS AND TAKE NOTES. Test are 100% of the grade and there's only 4. The tests are challenging too. The class is fast paced, and hard to keep up with at times. With all that said, Scott is a great professor. This is one of the hardest businesses classes you can take. He makes this class interesting. I would recommend him.
Note that if I could use profanity I would to express my frustration. IMPOSSIBLE class. Online students only have Hendrix as option. Doesn't understand/care that non-finance majors are forced to take this course. Knowledgeable, but HORRIBLE educator. Would rather have all of my teeth and nails pulled out slowly w/o drugs than take this class.
Scott is a funny guy and a legend in the KSU finance department. His students truly are his biggest priority, even when he has a couple hundred of them at least. His lectures are useful and necessary to succeed, he gives you ALL the info you need to do well on exams. You do NOT have any homeworks, only 3 tests and a final exam. USE TUTORS!!
This class is impossible to take online if you have any struggles with math classes. Yes, my major is business and I struggle with math. I understand simple concepts and I'm fine with algebra and most stats concepts. He only grades quizzes and tests. Test questions are combos of the quiz questions and worded completely different. Makes it difficult
I've had professor Hendrix for Finance 450, 451, and 500. He has been my favorite teacher I have ever had. I'd encourage any finance major to take his class. While the other professors might be easier, Hendrix has a lot of knowledge to teach you, has many connections in finance, and does everything in his power to help land you a job or internship.
He is the best. you gotta like finance to enjoy his class. He is the man i changed my major to finance because of him!
Book is on KSOL for free. Great guy with an interesting sense of humor. I liked him but some don't. Class isn't that hard if you study and really try to learn the material. I loved finance but most think it is hard. Hendrix explains things well so don't skip class if you struggle with finance. Is available whenever you need him.
Dr. Hendrix explains concepts clearly but this is one of the tougher classes required for a business degree. It isn't too bad if you keep up with notes though so don't get behind. Dr. Hendrix once emailed back and forth with me past 10pm when I was having a problem taking an exam so that made me appreciate him even more.
Hendrix is the best choice for Finance 450. He might have only tests, but if you go to class and pay attention you'll do well. He is very knowledgeable and I never got bored during his lectures.
Best professor for Finance 450. Work the old exams and problems from notes and you will do fine. Graded only on exams (4 exams including the final) and gives you the chance to replace an exam score if you take a double weighted final. Very accessible outside of class and quick to reply to emails.
Hendrix is a good choice for most students taking Finance 450 because he curves generously and allows a double-weighted final. He is also clearly knowledgeable and genuinely interested in teaching. I personally found his method of writing out solutions for problems to be counter-intuitive at times, so recommend adapting, and not copying, his notes
Scott is good at explaining finance there's no doubt about that. From an objective view he's probably one of the best people you can have teach you about the principles of finance. However, over his 25 years of teaching the same course he's become a jaded professor who shows sympathy for students. It's sad to see a great professor wither away
Professor Hendrix clearly knows what he's doing. However, I regret not taking Wilkinson because I hated the fact that this class is only 4 tests, and there is no other assignments to help boost your grade. The tests in this class are difficult. I suggest taking a different professor, or getting a tutor immediately if you don't understand.
Got put in charge of this class because of Covid and is the worst thing that has ever happened to me. Uses 20 year old videos to explain most concepts making the tough class even harder. Average grade on first test was a 59% if that means anything and still acted like things were going well. If you have the opportunity to take anyone else do it!
I can't believe Scotty is still teaching at KSU. He was a terrible teacher 15 years ago and still seems to be getting the same reviews. There are several concepts that he wastes too much time on and he truly believes that he is the smartest guy in the room. Don't be fooled, he's not the smartest. Educate yourself about interest and you'll be fine.
Hardest class I've had to take. The only grades are tests and pop quizzes that are almost every class and are tough short answer. The problem is that Scott is not clear about the material you need to study for on his quizzes/tests. If you take him, and you probably will have to, make sure read the book and hold on for dear life, and know TVM.
I actually wanted to like investments. The only thing that kept me from slipping into madness was a lot of the grade was off random pop quizzes which I actually did well on. Half the class was failing in the middle of the semester. For some reason is the only teacher of this class. So here's my advice, SUMMER CLASS!! P.s this is for finan 520
One of the harder classes i've taken. Didn't do particularly well on any of the tests but pop quizes are where most of the grade comes from. you have to read/prepare before every class to do well in my opinion. Hendrix is very up-front before tests and quizes as to what you can expect to see on them. overall good but challenging class.
This is a very tough professor. He is very unorganized. Expect quizzes every single class that are short answer and very tough. There is no homework but quizzes and exams make up entries course grade. Beware. This has been the worst class and professor I’ve had at KState.
Scott Hendrix is by far the worst and most unprofessional teacher I have ever experienced in my college career. He has no idea how to work a computer, will very often doze off in the middle of his lecture for five minutes at a time. Does not have an ounce of human decency.
He is the only option for those in online programs. You'd be better off taking the class at a different college and transferring it over. The lectures are easy to follow along with, but they don't prepare you for the exams at all. So if you think you know what's going on and feel really prepared, you don't and you're not.
This was my 3rd class with Hendrix. Hendrix held you accountable for coming to class prepared, and ready to participate in class discussions. Although his class is rigorous, any motivated student would take his class for his knowledge and wisdom. Class perks included Charlie Munger and Warren Buffett quotes daily!
