It was Hensley's first semester teaching, so there were a few bumps in the road, but he really did a great job. BLI is tedious at best, but he understood and really just looks for people to put in effort. Come to class, do the work, and you should get an A. The textbook is awful, but necessary to take the quizzes. His experience improves the class.
Nice guy, but it is BLI, so the course sucks, and the textbook only makes things worse. Definitely not the easiest BLI professor, but might not be the hardest either. Not an easy A by any means, but I wouldn't say it is impossible either. Definitely a lot of work, and not graded easily. If you want an easy A, he is not the one, but not the worst.
I have slept through almost every single class and I have an A+. Most chill professor I've ever had & the only thing he grades with any sort of difficulty is presentations. Pay close attention to the rubric and you'll be fine. Also don't leave your career portfolio till the last day to work on. Just go to class and you'll be golden.
Most laid-back prof. in Cox. Makes an absolutely asinine class so bearable, and does his best to get everyone through painlessly. Super upfront and clear about what will be on tests and how presentations are graded, follow the rubric on presentations to a tee and you'll be clean. WARNING: DO NOT LEAVE CAREER MANAGEMENT PORTFOLIO UNTIL THE NIGHT B4!
Professor Hensley is a great teacher and an even better person. It is clear that he cares about his students. He set his expectations at the beginning of the semester and worked to make sure all students were prepared. Overall Hensley's BLI class is the way to go if you're looking for an easy, fun business core course.
Dr. Hensley is one of the best professors I have had in college. His class is really helpful and really did a lot to help with my dislike of public speaking. He is a great professor, sets expectations well, and overall is a phenomenal professor.
If Professor Scott Hensley is available for a class that you need to take, absolutely take his class. Professor Hensley is incredibly qualified to teach within Cox, and is great at what he does. Not only is he qualified, but he is incredibly flexible about his assignments and genuinely cares about his students. A true must take Professor.
Best BLI professor by far. The book for the class sucks but besides that it is a really great class. Would recommend to everyone that you should take his class for BLI. I needed help for out of class things and he was available to meet every time I needed to. Everyone should try to take his class for BLI, easily the best professor for the class.
TAKE SCOTT HENSLEY!! One of the only BLI profs that actually cares about his students. Doesn't waste your time and lets you out early almost every class. Really good about responding to emails. 2 tests (SUPER EASY), CMC portion not too bad just busy work, and the mini quizzes are all on quizlet. Make sure to rehearse presentations and you'll be set
Hensley is great. He lets you out when there is nothing more to talk about, and he understands workload. His downfall would be his feedback: there is some obscurity when it comes to why your grade suffers, which sucks when you are chasing an A. Lots to love but some bits to worry about when taking Scott for BLI
Dr. Hensley grades your presentations based on your growth. For those who aren't very fond of public speaking, but are required to take this course, this course is given in a professional, yet relaxed manner. My only complaint is the somewhat outdated textbooks and quizzes that weight 10% of your grade. The answers are subjective of the textbook
Dr. Hensley is a great professor. Not only is he an easy grader, but he cares about his students and values their time (we regularly get out of class 10 or more minutes early). He is very understanding, clear about his expectations, and as long as you follow the rubric for presentations, you will get an A in the class.
The class has 2 group presentations, 1 paper, and 3 discussion posts. He is one of the nicest professors I have, and he tries to connect with every student. Though the presentations seem overwhelming, he grades them fair. I 100% recommend Hensley for MNO, and I would definitely take his course again.
Professor Hensley is a great person who makes sure that his management class is not that hard. As long as you participate and double-check all of the requirements for your Article and Case Study presentations you should do extremely well in his class.
A huge portion of your grade is group projects and there's very few assignments. I wanted to get A instead of an A- in this class but because of group work I felt like it brought my grade down. Definitely depends on who your partners are for the team projects.
Hensley is nice and the class requires very minimal effort, but be prepared that he often takes off random points and seems to make up new criteria as they come to his mind. It was his first time teaching MNO and he used another professor's syllabus so grades were often arbitrary and not based on rubrics given in the syllabus.
The three major grades in this class are a long research paper, a case study presentation, and an article presentation. You get randomly paired with a group for both presentations so be ready for that. Only problem with Hensley was his lack of feedback; he never really comments on your work and the grades do seem a bit arbitrary. Overall good guy!
The Professor is nice, but the class lacks real structure. If you need guidance to learn dont expect feedback and there is not much reasoning around grades. His class is Not the most challenging choice as a required class to graduate that often times runs short of content.
Very chill in class, and he lets out class early, but I didn't learn anything in this class. He is also extremely strict with certain assignments, making you write a 5+ page paper for missing a discussion board he assigns on a Friday night. No rubric or guidelines for 2 assignments worth 60% of your grade. Do badly on one, have fun with your B+.
Professor Hensley is the best. He is lenient about late work and only gives a few major assingments. Super flexible and nice
Loved professor Hensley!! He was super casual and only one of the few BLI teachers that don't make you dress business professional for presentations. Class isn't hard if you show up and stay on top of things.
Scott is the most easygoing professor I have ever had. There are 2 presentations and a research paper, and the presentations are not graded harshly. He ends class like 20 minutes early every time and does not care if you are on your phone or doing whatever. You don't have to try in this class, so it's awesome for the credit and GPA booster.
Professor Hensley was a fantastic teacher to have for business communication. He was accommodating, easygoing, and a fair grader. If you put effort into your speeches and the small number of assignments, you have no reason to worry. Take Professor Hensley if you have the opportunity.
Hensley is the best. He gives really good feedback and wants you to grow as a presenter, which he tries to reflect in your grade. His assignments are not too difficult, but are really helpful with presenting and overall good business practices. He is a great resource and has some good stories from his career which were awesome to hear about.
Great Professor! Class is mostly watching TED talks and he lets you out early when he's done showing them. Mostly graded on 3 presentations, he grades well for those. Also really relaxed on deadlines.
I took him for BLI previously and this time around was just as great! Hope he's seeking tenure. You could either bool around and do fine, or apply yourself and learn a great deal about the workplace. He's still new to teaching the course, so if you show effort, leeway exists. I strongly suggest meeting teammates early and participating for points.
Dr hensley has been my favorite professor since I got here. He is willing to work one on one with students with what they can work on. The homework is super laid back and he offers extra credit. You have to try to fail. I would go out of my way to have a class with him again. Thank you! I know he likes to read these lol
Awesome and always willing to help!
Good professor, very easy class. This class is a 4.0 breaker though, for the simple fact he does not give grades above a 95 and you need a 94 for an A. Easy to get an A-.
Absolutely loved this Professor. If you get the opportunity to take him for MNO or BLI, do it. He is a genuine guy and wants everybody to get a good grade. If you put even just a little amount of effort, you will get an A.
Professor Hensley is truly a kind spirit. He wants his students to succeed and provides ample opportunity for success within his class. I would strongly recommend taking his class. You have two projects that at max would take no more than two-three days. The hardest aspect of the class is the research paper.
Awesome, fun teacher. Easy class but super interesting. Hensley is a top g teacher.
Hensley is an amazing teacher. The class was really interesting and was not lecture-heavy. There are 2 group projects which account for 50% of your grade, but they are relatively easy and he gives everyone a grade from 90-94. Homework is minimal. Extremely easy to make an A- and if you put in just a little more work, it is easy to make an A.
This class is primarily discussion based, but it pays off since you are graded on participation. You will only need the textbook for citations for your presentations. Your grade and experience are based on what you put into it. It's a very easy A and I enjoyed having Hensley as a prof. Hilarious guy!
Professor Hensley was amazing! He made sure that we were doing assignments that he thought were valuable and barely gave any busy work. He gives great feedback on presentations and assignments, but only if you ask for it. This course was super easy as long as you prepared for your presentations in advance. I highly recommend professor Hensley!
Favorite teacher so far at SMU, extremely nice guy who understands we have other classes and clearly explains everything he is looking for in projects and gives really good examples. TAKE HIM!!!
Very dedicated professor who clearly cares about students, and is a fair grader. Definitely will take again.
TAKE HENSLEY FOR MNO3370!! He is definitely the best professor I've had at SMU. He is super laid back and lets you leave class early most days. You are graded based on two group presentations, a research paper, and a couple of assignments. There is basically no homework for this class. He wants everyone to get an A/A- so he will help you get that!
A sweet and genuine human. Truly wants everyone to succeed.
The best professor at SMU, take his classes if you want to enjoy the learning process.
Definitely take Hensley for management! The class is easy, and he's very nice. He has interesting life experience too.
His class is so easy. Just go to class, do the assignments and FOLLOW THE RUBRIC for the presentations and you will get an A. Not a class you should stress about. Most of the classes were just videos. Just watch out for the deadline on things cause he won't tell you until closer to the date.
This dude is the actual GOAT. He is the chillest, nicest, most understanding professor ever. He will help you out with your grade if you talk to him. Cannot thank this guy enough for such a great class.
only graded by two or three group projects. very easy class. take him.
Ethics is pretty boring but Dr. Hensley tries to make it as interesting as possible. Dr. Hensley curves generously and tries to make sure everyone gets an A.
Do the work and you will do well. Best professor at SMU, I wish I could have him for every class.
Really good teacher, a super easy class. You can tell he really cares about what he is teaching. He understands that students are busy too and is willing to work with you if you need extra help or extra time.
He's a great professor! Super easy class if you participate and do your part. you're graded on very few things including 2 group presentations (easy), reading quizzes that are open-note, and participation (you get 5 unexcused). Overall, he's a great and funny guy and always let's you leave class early so its one of the easiest cox classes
Professor Hensley is one of the best professors I've had at SMU. He is an easy grader and gives very clear directions for every assignment, he really wants to see his students succeed. As long as you do your work and go to class you can expect to get an A in the class.
Professor Hensley is an unbelievable professor and I could not recommend him more. The class is discussion based with 2 group presentations and a research paper. He also just gives great advice for hiring and interviews as he used to work in the career center
Great Professor. You barely have to try to pass.
Hensley is awesome, he gives great advice regarding careers, job applications, interviews, etc. He is a funny guy and made pretty boring content seem more interesting. You get 5 free absences before it affects your grade, and as long as you consistently try to answer questions in class and follow the clear guidelines for assignments, you will pass.
I had the privilege of having Professor Scott Hensley as my instructor for both MNO3370 and BLI1210 This semester, and I must say, he is an amazing professor! Professor Hensley's passion for the subject matter and his kindness towards his students make the class truly enjoyable. He's the G.O.A.T when it comes to professors!
Golden retriever Professor of Cox. The best part of his class is that he connects everything you learn to useful career tips that apply to all of his students, regardless of their majors. The class consists of two group presentations, a couple of essays, and raising your hand every other class.
super, super easy MNO professor! very nice, really chill classes where you can do other work while watching the group presentations. definitely participate and say something at least once a class, because he does give participation grades that can bump you up if you're on the edge of a grade. overall, super easy grader and chill class.
The GOAT!!
Really easy class, equally boring, and he makes sure everyone gets an A through his massive curving but don't expect to learn anything.
No homework, no real grading (everyone gets As), and while boring its doable for GPA boost. Not really helpful for industry connections, seems dated in knowledge, but again - GPA, go for it.
I cannot warn against taking a class with this professor enough. So egotistical and doesn't seem to care about students or have any interest in teaching. Easy A, sure, but some of us need to learn and make solid outside SMU connections and this guy does none of that
A waste of time and money but an easy boost for the gpa.
Hensley is great for a GPA boost. This class in general is a joke anyway, so might as well take a teacher who knows that and isn't too difficult.
joke of a class, joke of a professor, what a complete waste of time this whole program is
wants you to get a good grade. great professor
Good professor. Class is interesting if you bother looking up from your computer. The class could easily be very insightful and used in the real world. I thought he was a good professor. My advice would be to participate in class discussions, he will like you more.
love this king
2 group projects that are fairly easy to do as long as you get people that work together. A few quizzes that you can use notes on. A few surveys you will need to do and a few discussion boards that are easy to do. Very respectful professor 10/10. I would take this class as your last class as sometimes we get out earlier so you can head home early.
Best professor I've ever had. Grade is comprised of 2 group projects, 3 reading quizzes (notes are allowed), 4 discussion board assignments, attendance/participation, and a research paper, all of which are not very difficult. Almost always finishes class early. Just a great guy who seems to really care about his students and their future success.
Great professor who gives a lot of helpful information. 2 individual presentations and 1 group presentation along with a few small take home quizzes and writing assignments (all pretty easy). Funny and pleasant guy who actually seems to care. Definitely take him for this class.
Professor Hensley is a great professor who understands a great school and life balance. There are 3 reading quizzes and 1 research paper that was super easy because he walks you through how to make an A. The hardest part is the group presentations. but you only need to speak for 5 minutes or less. I enjoyed Hensley and would definitely recommend.
Hensley was a great professor for Management. He was very easy and clear about his expectations. Really good!
Professor Hensley is a great guy. He wants to see everyone succeed in his class. Very funny and huge Cowboys fan and easy to talk to. One of best professors I've had at this school, and I think everyone can agree he is an SMU staple!
does NOT care student. Does NOT give chance or extra credit! reading material is not related to study test! Very Rude and not understanding of study grades!
Hensley is the goat
Great teacher. Reccomend taking him.
A great teacher and very helpful! Take his class!!!
Really cares about his students and actively tries to set them up for success. Really interesting class as well.
TAKE HENSLEY!! You learn without tests/memorization. If you participate and don't ignore him when he asks a question, you get a good grade.
Best professor at SMU! He is very clear with his instructions for presentations/papers and is very willing to help you and give you feedback. He cares a lot about your grade and aims for everyone to get an A. You learn so much in his class without having the stress of constantly having to study or complete heavy loaded work. TAKE HIM!!!
He makes learning about management super entertaining. Super chill easy grader
I am currently taking this class as a freshman and this class is so great. Professor Hensley is truely a one of the kind professor, super cool, literally the best and helps a lot with connections, and cares about your gpa. Hensley is so goated.
Professor Hensley is possibly the kindest and most caring professor I have had at SMU. I have really struggled this semester with attendance and completing assignments on time, and he has been so understanding. His classes are very entertaining and he often lets you out early. He is the best!
The class is all group projects plus one research paper. He gives you plenty of time to meet with your groups and to write the paper, and he is super clear about how he grades. He always let us out of class a few minutes early and is super easy to reach outside of class. There is also no final exam. His class is the one to take!
Professor Hensley is the best! If you have to take BLI, take his class! He always let us out of class early and also didn't make us dress up to present. He is super clear on how he grades and is very understanding and easy to reach outside of class.
Professor Hensley is great guy and wants everyone to get an A. Show up to class and do the assignments and you'll get an A. Shout out Scott Hensley.
Honestly enjoyed this class! Found it easy and fun. Just go to class, pay attention, and participate and you will get an A. The hardest assignment / most time consuming in this class would be the research paper but he makes the requirements clear. Group presentations are fine and graded easily! Lets you out early and is just the nicest guy!!!
Mr Hensley class is pretty chill and not hard. Listening to the group projects was a bit boring, but I always enjoyed when he would talk after, as his lectures were entertaining and insightful. Overall it's an easy and enjoyable class—I highly recommend taking it. Professor Hensley is incredibly knowledgeable, and you can learn a lot from him.
absolute goat. class was not that difficult but i still learned a lot more than i expected. i also took this class for honors credit and there was only an extra paper compared to the other sections. take him.
such a great guy. cares so much about his students and wants to stay in touch. Tries his hardest to make assignment easier for the student and wants his students to end with A's
Hensley is amazing. He cares about you as a student and wants you to succeed. The reading quizzes are the only slightly challenging part of the class, so take those seriously. Otherwise, the class is easy but enjoyable. The class should be an easy A if you pay a little attention.
This class is half taught by students as there is a group presentation every class before his lecture. This is an easy A as long as you follow the formatting for the group presentations and essay. Professor Hensley gives some good advice for case prep, resume, and interviews, but I did not gain much besides that.
Professor Hensley is a fantastic teacher. He truly understands what we expect and wish to take away from his course and delivers. He is also a fantastic human being.
Phenomenal Professor! Must take
nice guy, good class
Good professor. Getting an A is very manageable.
Professor Hensley is so kind and really wants his students to succeed. He cares about developing his students as future leaders and not just passing a class. Two group presentations you know of well in advance and 3 open note reading quizzes, no final just a research paper. I can't recommend him enough he's the best!
My second time taking Professor Hensley. BLI 1210. You have a few presentations and a few assignments. Follow the rubric and you should get an A. Amazing professor that cares a lot about his students. Best Professor in Cox IMO
This guy is the goat.
The lectures revolve around his need to inflate his own ego. He does not have any self-esteem and consistently talks about himself in an effort to be liked by people half his age, which is sad. Just teach, that's what we're here for.
Professor Hensley is a great professor. He is very reasonable, understanding, and actually teaches useful material. I really enjoyed his class.
This guy is a class act. Took him for BLI and MNO, too many good things to say. Knows who he is teaching because he was in our shoes as an alumni. He is knowledgeable and great at giving feedback. His rubrics are very detailed. Also available outside of class and always willing to write a great letter of recommendation (how I landed my internship).
This course is a joke and so is he. Factors certain students thinks he know everything because he's an alum. Acts more entities than we do.
THE BEST management professor at SMU Hensley is all around a great professor and I highly recommend him. The course is simple but engaging and he really cares about his students. He is an amazing resource for anyone going through interviews or recruitment for big firms and is always willing to help students in networking with alumni to find jobs.
One of the best professors at SMU. Took this class for a business minor credit he clearly enjoys teaching this class and really cares about his students. If you just put effort you will get an A.
This was the worst class I had to date, bad class, bad professor, lowest grade I received after 30+ classes Ive taken here. does not teach at all, uses textbook materials rather than creating own so they never line up with "lectures" which make no sense, very opinionated and very obviously defensive to criticism
Obligatory this guy is the goat. Class is easy enough, main reason I gave a 3 on difficulty is because of research paper & reading quizzes. Most of class is watching presentations then hearing him talk about case studies, he is a good lecturer and has some great insight and experience to offer. Very approachable and kind, wants students to succeed.
Took him for BLI 1210. Super chill and never kept us for the full class, maybe 3 full sessions total. Grading is easy. Only annoying part is two Harvard Business Review quizzes that require buying a book you never use again. Forgot a presentation once and he let me reschedule. Final group project only needs you there on your day. Must take prof.
The only reason this class was a bit difficult for me is because I have bad social anxiety, but he does work with you. His grading is more improvement based, and if you hit everything on the rubric, you likely will do well. Nice guy.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER. None of what he does is useful and he has no connections in the field you will not know what's going on.
Dr. Hensley is relaxed, understanding, and sets clear expectations. The class he teaches can be a bit lacking (not a reflection of him, but rather the curriculum he is required to follow). He rarely keeps you for the whole class session and is flexible.
Super unorganized and extreme ego on this one. Been wondering why the good reviews for some time and now just realize they're homegrown. Not a good professor but easy a
A big waste of your time from an egomaniac who thinks he's gods gift to business.
Entire class is nothing but rambling.
Great teacher. Great person. Honestly if you show up, follow his clear instructions you should get an A. If not it is your own fault. I would take again.
Actually for BLI6202. Hensley is fantastic. He actually remembers what it was like to be a Master's students is so fair on grading your presentations. Literally the only thing due in this class are the easy presentations and there is no final. Absolutely fantastic experience and would take again.
Whoever said that Scott Hensley is a good professor was lying.
Doesn't know how to take criticism and doesn't know how to teach either. Yes he is a character in class and always ends class early, but when it comes to what really matters (the exams and papers) you are screwed and need to figure everything out by yourself.
Wow when someone on here said he doesnt know how to take criticism I was hesitant to believe it, but he really doesnt know how to accept beneficial feedback. Ridiculous grader, takes off points for no reason, basically just for the fun of it because he has "authority" and thinks he's important. I have never met a more shallow professor.
I am taking this class for a business elective, let me explain why he as a professor is a joke. He assigns discussion boards with instructions. If I follow every instruction, why is the highest grade on it overall a 92 in the class? Why did I lose 10 points when I completed it exactly the way the instructions said to? Barely gives out hundreds
Should be an easy A but he takes off points on every assignment for his amusement. Assigns us to 1 group at the beginning, so if other people in your group aren't as good at presenting, your grade is affected too and it won't change you are stuck with it for the entire semester. Extremely sensitive and expects you to not have a voice basically.
Nothing more frustrating than having a "professor" who can't take accountability and blames their students for their own failure and lack of ability for teaching. No matter how hard you work he will blame everything on you when in reality the reason students are questioning his ability to grade in the first place is because he truly cannot grade.
Prof. Hensley is about as cool as they come. Offering extra time for students and being able to help. Very clear rubric and very willing to be cool with situations. If you don't like him then its a you problem, by far the coolest professor I have ever had.
Great guy. I'd take him over anyone else everything he does is very straight forward and makes sense. He explains everything well so you're never confused or unprepared. Not too many assignments which is nice and also no exams just quizzes that you're allowed to have open notes.
Overrated ahl and the worst teacher at this university
Took this class as a freshman and it was great. Class is based off 2 presentations, 3 discussion posts, 1 essay (2 if honors section), and 3 quizzes that you can have unlimited notes for. He's cool & it was relatively easy. Sometimes took points off for unknown reasons, but not enough to affect my grade. Class was ran like grad school, but easier.
Probably the easiest professor for this class hes chill but lowk annoying, is SUCH a picky grader, takes off points and doesn't give an explanation, he took that new Cox grading criteria way too seriously, u have literally no way to get extra credit and he doesn't round grades. He doesn't teach, the entire class consist of group presentations.
He literally doesn't do anything. Wasteful of our money.
Prof Hensley gives the illusion of a good professor, but just enjoys advising. The classes are all group presentations (which you have to email him for feedback on your grade). He is a VERY picky grader and vague about the rubric. He means well when he gives advice but likes to hear himself talk. As a Management major, don't take him. Take Dao.
He cares a lot about his students and their learning. Major grades are two individual presentations and a group one. 2 open book quizzes&written assignments. You can schedule a zoom meeting before presentation day for good feedback. However, he is a very tough grader, so if you struggle with public speaking do not take him or settle for a B+ max.
Avoid this professor like the flu. Disorganized and unapproachable. Don't subject yourself to this
Professor did not teach. Students are required to work on chapters like self study. Students in class mostly say they did Not have a great experience and left us all flat and sad all semester long listening to other students. Blah. Classes are let out 20 minutes early a lot! If you want an inspiring instructor, this class is not for you.
Does not teach, does not grade, does not do anythin.
I'm normally an all A student and this class (supposedly an easy class) was my only B+, maybe bec of the new Cox curve. We are let out 20 mins early which did kind of gave the feeling that he didn't feel like teaching. The rubric/criteria he is also looking for is kind of vague. He is a good person overall but I don't think I would take him again.
