Herrick is seriously one of THE BEST professors I've ever had. he LOVES the subject, he has done research and he knows A LOT! I learned a lot from him... his exams are NOT easy, his goal is to make you think like a scientist... to UNDERSTAND why, not just memorize. VERY willing to help and easy to talk to!!
Best teacher at rcc. Super helpful, tests arent tht easy, but after 1st test, youll know what to study for. Hes hard, but not impossible, makes u work hard. Absolutely great. helps you with anything. GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!
Great teacher, tests are on LECTURE, so know lecture, use book to just review lecture topics. LECTURE! cant stress it enough. Know experiments he talks about cuz chances are hell ask you about them in tests. LECTURE!!
His test are almost impossible! Nice enough teacher, but I feel that he is seriously over teaching an intro class. Not all of are in there to become scientists in the future, we are taking it as a prereq for a nonbiology career! He does not return graded papers in a timely matter. As our final approaches he still has 1 test and 5 qiuzes of ours!
Exams are extremely difficult. You have no idea where you stand grade wise, because he doesn't hand back tests or quizzes. He gives cummulitive fianls, but doesn't give back all of your old exams or qiuzzes to study from, nor does he give a study guide. As a student you should know all of the info apparently.
I've had several good professors at RCC and Dr. Herrick is probably the best of them. He is an extremily thorough lecturerer, you will not be bored, and you will learn a lot from him. He's passionate about the subject of biology and anybody who cannot earn at least a B in his class wasn't studying the lecture slides they ought to blame themselves.
This teacher is the best. Tests r on lecture, so take notes, and his lecture presentations are on his website. Go to office hours if you dont get an idea. hell help you right away. hes awesome, hes not that tough, i mean i got through it and earned a B but it was worth it, it really prepares you for UC's
This is seriously one of the worst teachers Ive ever had. He is rude, and his tests are impossible. He expects a non-biology major to know everything there is to know about every little detail in all the tests. Final is cumulative and very hard. All the tests and lab practicals are impossible. All he does is confuse ppl. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
Best teacher ever. Gives you every possible resource you need, if you don't get an A it's cause you didn't put the time in. Don't let the bad ratings steer you away from Dr. Herrick. If you want to learn your stuff and be ready for a real college(CSU/UC), take him! It wasn't hard either, but if you're a****I recommend you take palates =P
HE IS A NICE INSTRUCTOR. HE IS SO HELPFUL AND ANSWERS QUESTIONS WITH CLARITY. AS FAR AS I THINK HE IS A NICE PERSON.

Dr. Herrick has earned the title Doctor. He really knows his**** and expects you to follow suit. If you're not a science major, don't take a major's class and then **** when you suck at it. Herrick is tough but that's because it's tough material and he wants you to know it.

BEST TEACHER EVER! this guy gets you ready for ALL biology based classes you will have in the future! If you show up to class and pay attention to him, everything will make sense!!! Go talk to him from time to time to get him to clarify a few things here and there. he is easy going and great to befriend!
Dr. Herrick is the best! If you really want to know biology, then he is the teacher to take. I only wish he would teach the second bio class I have to take.
Dr. Herrick's so nice, considerate, and patient. He actually takes the time to explain something to you privately if you come to him after class (even during summer sessions). The material is tough, though, so don't expect his class to be easy just because he's laid back.
the most boring teacher ever. the people who rated him must have been naturals at this stuff, but for us regular folk. spare yourself. his lectures are like watching paint dry but with sound. run far far away!!!!
Highly intelligent professor who not only knows the subject material but also speaks very well. Helpful, highly organized, and a good sense of humor. There is a lot of material so be careful not to miss class.
I took Mr. Herrick for Biology. I can tell you with all honesty that of all the professors I have know he left the most sour taste in my mouth. I am in my final chapter of my college career and to say that this teacher was the worst I have had is an understatement. He is mean, incomphrensible, and literally useless. Avoid him, please.
Tests are based off his PowerPoint lectures so don’t miss class. He is not helpful when it comes to lab and he takes FOREVER to hand back quizzes and tests. He is not an easy A or B, he doesn’t want his class to 'look' easy.
Most amazing teacher you could ever have for any science class. Takes the most insane topic, & with his magical gift for perfect organizing, dumbs it down until hes spoon feeding you simple information you have to memorize. But there are 32423432432 little things you MUST memorize to get through, thats the only hard part. Understanding him is easy.
Did not even use the book once and still got an A. ALL QUESTIONS COME FROM HIS POWER POINT LECTURES!! Just master the ability to relay his own words back at him for the test and you'll be fine.
OMG!!! SUPER COOL AND KNOWLEDGEABLE TEACHER, IN ADITION HE IS SUPER HOT!!! What else can you ask girls, gays, and bis? Seriously, HE KNOWS HIS SUBJECT, Follow LECTURES and review with book. I took his class in Winter, HE LOOKED SO HOT AND HANDSOME WITH BEARD! You'll learn a interesting things from him.
Dr. Herrick's lectures are well-organized and interesting, his tests strongly reflect his lectures (SO GO TO LECTURE), and he's willing to help if you put in the effort. It's not an easy class, but it's fair. Early reviews say he didn't return tests/quizzes back quickly, but he seems to have fixed that as we got everything back the next week.
Very difficult, intense class. Herrick is an incredible teacher; he is brilliantly knowledgeable. I highly recommend taking his class. Just be ready to study a lot!
one of the top prof at the campus. VERY knowledgable, tests will kick your butt so study it off! dont be intmitated to go to his office hours he wants to help, really nice guy. there's only one million things to know, the material is very tough. highly recommended.
Very good teacher! His tests are on the material he lectures. Explains the material very well and is extremely approachable. I really enjoyed taking his class! He's a cutie too :)
Great professor! He explains everything clearly...he describes certain material as "hot" so you know he is very passionate about what he teaches, which draws the students into his lectures. Tests are hard but based on lectures. I got a C but was taking 17 units. I could have done better if I put more time into his class. GREAT CLASS, GREAT TEACHER!
So, I sat in his class for 2 weeks trying to add in (I decided to opt out since it would put me at 19 units). But, he left an incredible impression just in those two weeks. He's very passionate about what he teaches and very helpful. He also very considerate and cares about all his students. Great guy, great teacher. I'm a bit sad that I'm not in t
Dr. Herrick is the most amazing teacher I have ever had. Hands down the best at RCC, as well as the best teacher I've EVER had. He has an amazing gift to turn student on to bio, which I believe is extremely important to him. Awesome person too, its just a tragedy that he doesn't teach Bio 12!
dude effin sucked at teacking properly. I mean, seriously, if you take the class, assume that it willl be the only class you will be taking. The powerpoints only cover so much, you will need a good recording device to catch all the random crap he says, which by the way, will be on the test. and if he mentions something obscure, it'll be tested on
Awesome teacher who really enjoys what he teaches and it shows. The tests are HARD, though. I studied a ton and still got a C. You have to dedicate at least 2 hours of studying per lecture hour. Very helpful and answers questions without making you feel stupid.
Dr. Herrick is an amazing professor. He really masters biology and it shows in his crystal clear lectures. I HIGHLY recommend that you record his lectures and you MUST read the book if you are to succeed in his Molecular Biology class. Dr. Herrick is possibly my favorite teacher that I have ever taken, and I highly recommend taking his class.
Yea so I didnt get the best grade in his class. But Dr Herrick has so much passion for the subject but you cant help but feel the same. I feel like the class itself wouldnt be hard as long as you do 'PREVIEW REVIEW' & take his quizzes seriously. I didnt do any of those but still passed. He's so awesome; i've never felt so sad leaving a class
Extremely hard class, but awesome teacher: who loves the material. You MUST follow his "preview/review" method which he teaches first couple days of class to succeed. He moves extremely fast and uses a lot of diagrams which are confusing. He gives a C for a 65% but does nothing for a 78.9% which sucks, and doesn't make sense. Over all, a cool guy!
One of the best professors I have ever had. He is passionate about his lectures, and draws you in from beginning to end. Great person and mentor! The class is interesting and enjoyable. Take Dr. Herrick and you will never regret it. Simply amazing! Oh, and you will especially like him if you have a thing for nerdy jokes. ;)Plus he's cute.
This class is pretty hard, but herrick is a good teacher, he is helpful in office hours, and puts up slides before lecture. follow his preview review system and you will succeed! dont fall behind and procrastinate! its hard to catch up! read the chapters accordingly, they are very helpful! tests are detailed questions! make sure you know details!
Best professor i have ever had at RCC. Period. You wont need the book because he is that thorough in class. He is extremely helpful and funny. Keeps the class entertained but is highly knowledgeable about the subject. Highly recommend! its not a cake walk but you wont care. Labs are really fun.
This is a very difficult class and he is not an easy professor. His exams are grueling and he expects a lot. However, he is very clear on what he expects you to know. He also gives you study tips. Use his preview/review method and you will succeed for sure! He explains things so that they are easy to comprehend. Also he's fun in the lab.
This Silver Fox sure has a lot of pun-ilicious knee-slappers (jokes for days) when it comes to the material. His lectures are all on pp slides that he uploads to his website before class (PREVIEW). TAKE NOTES!! and (REVIEW) go over them a little everyday to succeed. His tests are HARD with a lot of hypothetical ?'s. Don't be afraid to ask your own.
Really great professor! Pay attention to his lectures and review the power points, and you should be fine! Makes lectures interesting by adding in jokes and funny videos. Only complaint is the he thinks pandas are "lame". haha. other than that really awesome!!
He is a nice guy, but his tests are way too tricky. He seems more concerned about confusing the students more than making sure they succeed. Expect to spend an ungodly amount of time on his class as he must think his class is the only class you are taking with the test loads he gives. Expects way too much for lower division. Good luck.
Makes u come to class every day and will take points off quizzes of u leave early. Lectures were torture and it felt like being in high school again!
He is the best professor I've had at RCC. He is interesting and contemporary, and really piqued my interest in bio. I never once felt that he was wasting my time. He has high standards and you need to put some time into studying for his tests.
Dr. Herrick is one of the best instructors I've had at rcc. He's thorough enough that I barely had to use the book. If he tells you to know something, KNOW it! He's clear though and pretty funny (corny though). You definitely have to study (a lot of memorizing) but if you study well enough for the quizzes the tests aren't that bad.
Herrick is a good teacher and clearly knows his stuff. The course itself has to much and should be broken down in 2 separate courses. I find upper div. course easier then this course.
If you have a type of learning style that requires you to read through your book and write eligible notes, I wouldn't recommend him. I was in a small class & literally only 1 A, 2 B's, 1 C, and the rest D's & F's. I retook the class with a diff teacher & passed with an A. Herrick was just not my type of teacher. I treat my 200$ books like bibles.
Dr. Herrick was the most helpful, thorough, and consistent instructor I've had. His lectures are based off of a PP presentation available online, and restudying is required to get a good grade. Only take his class if you actually want a full understanding of the subject with great resources, because skipping days and texting will ruin your grade.
He seriously knows his stuff and he makes you want to know it, too. The class itself is tough, it's a lot of material and it's very fast-paced. If you're not a bio/science major,I suggest taking a different class to meet your requirement. You have to put in work, but he helps a lot, and his tests are based off his quizzes and powerpoints.
I took his class in 2013 and it was great. If you transfer be sure to take the bio 12 too. This is a lower div class but his class has prepared me for my upper divs. It's actually just as hard if not harder than my classes at UCSD. My advise: record his lectures, study his slides, never miss a class, have fun. He's the reason I'm successful at UCSD
He loves his job and does very well. This class requires too much work. Every week you will have lecture and lab quiz. 3 lecture 2 lab exams through out the semester, but he is the best in his field. If you want to learn biology you should take with Dr. Herrick.
dr herrick is a fantastic professor, he is extremely helpful and fair, he never gives ou anything on tests that he didn't already answer in class, his slides are enough to go by for quizes, if you study and attend class you will get a good grade for sure
Dr. Herrick is a great teacher-clear, concise, organized, and intelligent. He LOVES science & his job. He will cover tons of material, with weekly quizzes and tests every 2-3 weeks (lab and lecture). He posts his lectures online for you; no excuses. Can seem arrogant at times. Your Inner Fish was a cool book. Great, but demanding class and prof.
The best teacher I've had at RCC by far. Dr. Herrick knows the material he teaches really well, and his lectures are mind-blowing. Be ready to work for it though! Even if you're used to coasting through classes, YOU WILL HAVE TO STUDY! Use the preview/review method he teaches you at the beginning and save yourself some trouble later.
Not an easy professor, so slack off and you'll fail. However he loves what he teaches and does make it interesting to learn. He has a lot to cover and is unable to cover everything but what he does cover he covers very well and if you come in to office hours he will help you through. Expect to put in a lot of hours outside of class to pass.
An absolutely amazing professor (my favorite) who is truly passionate about his field! I used his success method, attended SI, and actively participated in class. Weekly quizzes, some assignments here and there, and tests. Lectures are super interesting and you go deeper into the material. You need to put in time. Can't wait to take him for BIO11!
he is a great lecturer, but his tests are way harder than they need to be; especially for a nonmajor's class. At the beginning of the session there were 40 kids in my class, now there is about 12. ALSO, don't waste your money on the textbook. He said that you need it, but i literally never opened it. Study the slides and you should be fine
Herrick is a great teacher. Lectures are clear, not always concise. Always available to answer questions outside of class. He thinks bio is fun, and wants you to understand it. Relies heavily on the Campbell Biology book - skip Freeman. People say he's hard, but his expectations are reasonable. Cell biology is a hard course, period.
No homework, just a few lab assignments here and there. Fascinating teacher and class. Dr. Herrick is also hilarious and kind, and definitely willing to clarify questions if you have any! Read on your own time though even if there is no homework, so you won't fall behind. Pretty easy to get a good grade!
Best instructor I have ever had. His lectures are engaging and you will learn A LOT from them. Make sure you know every detail that of the lesson he goes over in class, and the study the slides! I recommend recording his lectures.
He really knows the material and if you pay attention you'll learn a lot. He gives quizzes regularly and the tests are a little hard yeah. He is a great person, makes the class fun and sometimes even funny. DO NOT GET THE BOOK, his class focuses ONLY on his slides.
DO NOT EVER TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Herrick requires you to teach YOURSELF about 85% of the material and requires alot of time. PowerPoint's are extremely vague , he is very jumpy during lecture, and he squeezes the most important material literally in the last 5 minutes of class. This class will take most of your study time. Passable, but dont take too many untis with this class.
He is so smart! He expects you to work! You can succeed if you do the work and really want to. I am a better thinker coming out of his class.
Herrick's lecture is amazing. His test and quizz is kinda challenging. 10 Quizzes, 3 exams and 1 final total. Make sure you understand every single things in his slide. His slide is most about picture so reading books will help a lot. He require you to read and study before class, because quizz will include preliminary and new stuff.
An excellent professor who sincerely cares about his students. I did not use the book, and received an A in the class. However, I showed up on time to every class, took excellent notes, and studied his slides. I recommend taking Bio 1 before, as it gives a good foundation to build on and will make things easier. Very open and enthusiastic professor
Do NOT take him. His expectations are super high for a non-major class. At least half the class drops/doesn't pass
The professor is cool, his class is not. His labs are unbelievably boring, as are his lectures which are practically non-interactive. The tests are brutal as he does not really test off the lecture, he tests from the material in the book, so the fancy $300 book is useful. However it would be cheaper and more enjoyable to take another professor.
This is the hardest, albeit most rewarding class Ive ever taken. You have to be ready to dedicate a chunk of time to this class, and I found that the best thing to do is record the lectures and re-listen to them while studying. I didnt have to use the book because I recorded lecture. Herricks a gem and wants you to excel, as long as you want to.
I failed HES1 w/ a professor I cant remeber, 6 years later and I decided to retake the class and I got this professor. He keeps it interesting, he straight forward which I like. come to class, listen to his lectures, take notes, read the book, were in college so duh this should be cake. He makes it easy to succeed in his class, you actually learn
He literally tells you on the first day how to succeed in his class, I have him for HES1 and one the awesome things he does is all the slide shows he lectures over for you to take notes he puts on his website, so I can actually sit in class and listen to his lectures and then later go home and copy the notes&review. Easy A if you do the simple work
Herrick is a great teacher. Your lecture grade is mostly based on how you perform on the quizzes and tests but there are never any pop quizzes, he always tells you in advance. His lectures are very interesting and make the concepts easy to understand. Reading the textbook can help to clarify concepts if you are struggling but it isn't necessary.
Professor Herrick was the best professor I took at RCC. I'm majoring in Molecular and cell Biology and his class confirmed my passion in science. He really makes you work for your grade. RECORD HIS LECTURES: his tests are based on his lectures. I got an A in the class and I didn't read a single thing from the book. (Don't study last minute)
I absolutely loved Herrick's class; he made me realize that I want to put some focus on cell biology in my career. There are weekly quizzes, a few lab quizzes, no homework. He recommends the text but it's not required to pass. Find a study method early, don't cram, there's way too much info. He's got the best puns and makes lecture fun
Awesome teacher I highly recommend him especially for the short terms. Lecture heavy, but they're all online to review and his tests are based off the lectures not the textbook so don't worry about getting it, and no homework. Best teacher ever, easy A!
Herrick is clearly knowledgeable of the subject. However, the way he conducts his class is not friendly. His lack of patience gets the best of him (publicly scoffing in lecture, rolling his eyes at students). Of course there are students that are out of line, but the disruptiveness in his attitude when tested shows low professionalism.
I took Herricks cell bio many years ago. My friends and I all graduated from UCs, and I assure you that hell prepare you for that level of coursework. He is still one of our favorite professors. UC upper div. science courses and their professors are demanding. You will study a lot in Herricks class, but hell help you if you put in the effort.
Dr. Herrick is one of the hardest teachers I've ever had. His lectures are so heavy and fast. you have to go over the material many times to understand the concept. You think you understood it, and suddenly the tests make you feel that you don't know a word!! Tests are very hard and tricky. Tough grader! dropped the class. Stay on top of it to pass
He is a very hard professor but if you stay on top of studying it may work for you. Dropped the class.
10/10 would take again
Difficult but thorough, it wasnt easy but I definitely leaned a lot. Be ready to focus on specifics and add lots of detail to your exams. Overall great professor, always has office hours/tutoring, and makes time to help every student. Like I said, very difficult, but fair, and the amount you learn from him is worth it.
Very tough quizzes every week. even tougher tests. A lot of people going into the biology or medical field can appreciate his teaching and level of rigor. If you're only taking biology because its required by IGETC or its your first bio class don't take him. If you do take him it will require a lot of studying. good luck.
Dr herrick really makes you think twice about being a bio major. I failed the first time but retook it and got a b, sometimes he is a little scary to approach b/c it seems like he will look down on you, but once you get over that fear and ask him to dumb stuff it down (1-on-1), he will. this class made me sob but it made me a better student
Avoid taking this class at all costs. His lectures are very heavy and you think you understand it until you take the exam and feel clueless. He doesn't give enough time for tests and quizzes. His tests include hard questions that were never discussed in lecture. Each exam is cumulative and final is worth 250pts!
Dr. Herrick's lectures are clear and comprehensive. His material is very concise which was beneficial to my understanding in the class. One thing that I did not like however was how minimal time we were given for the quizzes. I prefer reviewing my answers but his set time did not permit that.
While Dr. Herrick is quite knowledgeable about the subject, and his lectures are quite clear and go deep into detail, his class is also very quiz and exam-heavy. Tough quizzes every week (which you lack optimal time for), and on some weeks extremely heavy lectures. Overall, he is not the best, but not the worst.
He has a quiz every week, but doesn't have enough lecture time to cover all the material before then. His lectures are all very dry and unengaging. The only things that you get graded on are quizzes and exams, so if you are like me and have trouble teaching myself material off of the lecture notes, then you'll have a bad time with this professor.
Super knowledgeable and you can tell he really enjoys the Bio! However, he is always 1-2 lectures behind and will expect that you have studied (book & videos) and are ready for weekly quizzes even if the material was not discussed in lecture yet. If you do not have at least 3 hours daily you can dedicate to studying for this class do not take it.
There are weekly quizzes and no homework so the exams are gonna have a huge roll in your grade. For quizzes and exams he assigns too many problems in such a short amount of time, and when other students and I asked him to add more time since we didn't even have enough time to finish some questions he said no and wouldn't budge.
He is a caring and knowledgeable professor. His lectures were very concise and thorough, I watched his recorded videos on top of going to his lectures every week. He is available outside of class, has office hours, and responds to emails very quickly. He is always happy to help you! This class requires a lot of time and effort, but it's doable!
Dr. Herrick is an incredibly knowledgable professor. Just listening to his lectures is inspiring, his passion for the subject is contagious. His quizzes and exams are tricky though! You have to thoroughly understand the material to do well on them. Eager to help students, caring, and accessible outside of class. Be ready to put in the time though!!
Dr. Herrick is a great professor. You will work for your grade. You need to make sure you study the content. His lectures are clear and his tests are based on his lectures. He does post his lectures on canvas. I recommend you watch them before you attend the class. He does make himself available for his students. I recommend him for Bio 60.
Only issue was the length of lecture videos and how out of time they were with in person lecture. You'd have like 5 lecture videos each about an hour long a week to watch and a quiz at the end of each week on them, but he wouldn't actually lecture on them until the next week. Otherwise great, very helpful and cares for his students success
Before taking this class, a lot of people were telling me that he was very difficult and a lot of people dropped out in the fall semester and I thought they were being a bit dramatic...they were not lying. His exams are very difficult and gives you quizzes every Friday. If you are not strong in biology, try to avoid this professor at all costs!!
Good Lecturer, Funny, and knows Biology very well. But the exams were just something else. He taught the material well but the exams were just a maze. We had weekly quizzes that were based on 4-5 lecture videos per week. It was tough. Watch those lecture videos at 1.5 speed and focus on understanding the material, rather than memorizing.
Jumpy lectures, gets sidetracked often while still relevant to class. miss more than 2 lectures or labs, get dropped. No HW but you will have to be on top of studying every week to do well. He is funny but his lecture style was not my favorite, 6.5/10. quiz every week, exam every 4 weeks all based on his lectures, I never used the textbook
Lecture is graded on weekly quizzes and exams. Lowest quiz is dropped, lowest exam is replaced by final. Lectures are online/in person where u are expected to watch before attending class. Exams and quizzes are a mix of MC and free response. Questions themselves are designed to concept check/trick u. Don't memorize slides, know why/connect concepts
ONLY graded by tests. Herrick is super smart and nice, this is just a really hard class. the majority of students have taken it multiple times bc of the difficult topics. definitely know your amino acids bc it will come up through the year. I got an F bc I forgot the withdraw deadline. if you don't need this class, skip it. its super time consuming
EXTREMELY difficult class/ lots of memorizing. Lectures are good, but you basically need to memorize everything he says. All 20 amino acids, Krebs cycle, history of famous biologists, etc. Felt like I was at university because it was so intense. Amazing, funny and caring, professor but the amount of material is actually insane.
Exams are cumulative, so make sure you are getting a consistent score on each one. He is a nice guy, and the material in the class is definitely going to prepare you if you are pre-med. Very strict on spelling too, know what you're getting yourself into.
Literally the worst class I have ever taken. He belittle students, goes out of his way to make the concepts in class more difficult. Instead of teaching a biology course he focuses on the biochemistry and makes students memorize unnecessary material. I Dropped his class where I had a C and took a different professor at MVC and ended up with an A.
oh man. 85% self taught. mandatory to watch lecture videos to understand anything on quizzes and exams. weekly quizzes that are ahead of lecture. does not test on the info provided but on the concept and apply to outside material not taught. very strict on spelling and is not afraid to give 0. the exam averages are 50%. SLOW GRADER. exams are mc/fr
Definitely a tough class, but staying on top of the material with resources like unstuck study and the free textbook can really help. The lectures are good, and the professor is engaging, but the exams are no joke. Attend class, study consistently, and you'll be in good shape.
Doesn't teach, expects you to learn on your on then come to class to just talk about biology. Is not very helpful. Lectures about things on test after test has already passed. Expect to spend lots of your time watching videos outside of lecture time.
I have genuinely never met a professor that genuinely does not care about his students and their success in the class. He is always behind in lecture. Went to his office hours multiple times and he was absolutely no help. Take it with anyone except him. Everyone warned me about him and I genuinely thought “how bad could it be?” Take it at moval.
It's hard to keep up with the class as is, for him to be behind in lecture makes it hard to pass the quizzes and be prepared for the exams.
I'll begin by saying something nice: if you know all the material before taking this class, it's an easy A. Otherwise, this is the worst class ever. Quizzes that cover material we haven't covered, loves to hear himself talk and hates if you need to leave even though lectures are posted, no practice exams, doesn't answer own questions... Terrible.
There are no ill thoughts towards this professor. Writing a rating will not change my grade. However, as a third year stem student who has not taken a biology class in 6 years, spent countless nights studying for quizzes and exams, and believed to fail the class. An introductory biology class that you try for should not require failing to "learn".
Professor is great but learning is dependent on lecture videos and very rarely will he say something important in lecture. Class exams are difficult… despite studying hard. Make sure to know how to spell tricky words since points will get taken away if not spelled correctly. Overall nothing against the professor.
in-person lectures don't cover needed material at all. you must spend several hours learning watching prerecorded lectures to even be prepped for the in-person ones. no homework, study guides, extra credit or make-up work. power point slides have little to no words. grade comes from quizzes and extremely hard exams only. test average is D or F.
Funny and personable, but not a strong teacher. Grading is inconsistent and overly nitpicky, with points lost on small details. Gradebook access is very limited. Tests are extremely difficult, lectures and textbook are not enough, there are no study guides, and success requires prior bio knowledge or excessive outside studying.
