He is a very good teacher and will answer any questions you may have and elaborate until you understand. He's very charismatic and has a sarcastic sense of humor. Really funny guy, makes class fun. The only thing is, he refuses to make study guides. But if you study your notes, you will be OK because his test are pretty straight-forward and easy.
Scott is a good teacher. He helps students not only be repeating the material but also by putting his lectures online. His test are fair, not too easy or too hard. I think he really tries to test what you understand instead of memorizing.
Hes a great teacher! He explains things you've heard a million times, but finally in a way you understand it. His tests are straight forward with no suprises. He does what he can to really help his students and not just earn a paycheck. He also acutally has a personality which is somemthing that some bio teachers seriously lack. Def. take him!!
Excellent instructor!!! You need to study hard for the class but he is willing to help you to make sure you understand. He posts all of the lectures online, which is a big help.I was actually able to understand biology for the first time in my life, and I actually enjoyed it.
He is VERY tough on his expectations and writes some tricky questions, but he is very entertaining and makes class fun. His class is a ton of work!!!
No study guide. Class notes he gives at least 15 pages of notes. He loves Science so if you are not good with this subject pick another teacher.
Scott is a great teacher! tests are tricky though. lots and lots of notes !!study and you will pass, tough class
Scott is a great teacher. He may not make study guides, but he does go over the tests before to make sure he included everything. There is a lot of self-study involved, but he is fun. He is willing to help you if you ask for it. He is fair. Take this class!
I took Scott for Bio 168 and Bio 169, made an A in both courses. The class is not difficult. His test are multiple choice, T/F and matching. He does give a good amount of notes but def. not difficult. If you understand the concepts then you will do well. My only complain is that he is a very slow grader so feedback is not immediate.
His notes are posted online, uses powerpoint, explains anything you don't get. Prepare for weekly quizzes, and GO TO CLASS. He's a fun bio teach and DEFINITELY GET HIM FOR LAB.
Scott has to be the worst teacher I have had. He comes to class unorganized, and always looks like he's either lost or flustered. He is horrible about responding to emails, and takes forever to post test grades. I dont recommend.
Decent professor, great personality and very helpful, but may be somewhat disorganized and slow to grade and post grades. Gives good notes and information, tests are difficult but manageable.
He's definitely a fun teacher. He'll answer your questions but he doesn't baby you. You are responsible for your learning. He's not going to hand you test guides. This is college, he supplies you with the tools you need, what you should know and the information required.
Scott was a lot of fun in the class room. He tried to keep the class engaged. He was a tough teacher and not always clear but was always open for questions and available during office hours. Study and definitely take notes and you will do well
Scott uses technology and humor to make the class interesting. He provides lecture videos via Blackboard but does not provide study guides or Power Points. I had Mr. Fair for lab and Scott for lecture - both were great but I chose Mr. Fair for BIO 112.
Loved Scott!! He practically gives out questions to the tests - very easy to get A!Great personality and also helpful; however, dont ever come late to class, he'll pick on you in front of everyone!
I took his hybrid class so we only met for lab. I found him to be very disorganized in general and not respectful of our time. Also, do not expect feedback from tests online - the only way to find out what we did wrong was to go into his office hours, which is hard for people working full time and taking classes.
Took Bio 111 Hybrid course, so we met once weekly for lab. This class was extremely difficult. You will take 4 online exams & 3 in class lab exams as well. With that said, Scott is a great teacher and is very laid back. If you ask for help, he's there to help all the way. He won't baby you- so if you are expecting that-dont take this class.
online nutrition. he is super unorganized. he put up exams and assignments with no notice/time to prepare for them/ adjust your schedule. otherwise he's ok, I guess.
Scott is very knowledgeable about what he is teaching. Always helps when he can and makes sure that you DO understand the stuff. If you don't go to him that is your own fault. He is the best resource for the class. Test are hard but so is the course and is expected. Misses some class but allows for make up because of his absence. Great Teacher
S. Johnson is a great teacher. He's passionate about Biology, and takes the time to tell you what to write down from his lectures. He also puts audio lectures with powerpoints on Blackboard for additional study helps. IF you pay attention in class & ask questions, he WILL help you. He expects you to care about your own grades & act like adults
Scott Johnson is without a doubt, the worst Bio teacher ever, and I have had a bad teacher for Bio previously. I took his online hybrid class (HUGE mistake) and got a B- by the skin of my teeth. Previously I've been an all A student with Honors and AP material. He has no study guides, doesnt tell you what is wrong on test, and is useless. Stay AWAY
Scott is an awesome teacher! The class is definitely harder than the average biology class, but he is very clear and knows what he's talking about. Funny, sarcastic, caring, and wants you to succeed! Definitely recommend Scott Johnson!
Love Scott!!! He is funny and he doesn't even use the textbook. Everything on the tests he goes over in class on the powerpoint or in lab. So take notes, study, and you will do great! He is very helpful and willing to meet with you to answer any questions and go over past tests. Definitely recommend Scott!
Dr. Johnson's course was extremely easy. Does not use the book and very lenient or responding to emails.
Easy class. Scott was helpful and his schedule was easy to follow.
I absolutely love this teacher! Scott always has his students best interests in mind and not a lot of teachers are like that anymore... He will explain something over and over until all the students understand. He knows the material VERY WELL and his passion for the subject is very obvious. I recommend this teacher!!
Amazing teacher. He will NOT baby feed you the information but he will repeat himself as much as he can to make sure his students understand. He is also extremely helpful but there is no extra credit and spelling doesn't count for lab practicals. Take him!
Doesn't post your grades on blackboard. He is a good teacher and definitely knows his information. Repeats anything you ask him to. Tests can be hard. Make sure you study!
Took the online version and it was obvious that he wasn't interested in making sure he was preparing his students for any stated learning outcomes. Completely disengaged and if you memorize everything out of his mouth you would be lucky to pass the course. Terribly disappointed.
Seated class was HORRIBLE. Many people dropped the class. I ended up dropping as well and will not take the class seated again. NO supplement work to reinforce concepts. No homework or quizzes. You sit for 3 hours through lecture while writing notes and then take a test which you score low on and they're worth 25% of your grade.
This is the worst instructor that I have had in my 68 credits that I have taken. There is no test preparation. I have never wanted more homework in a class until I took this one. No homework or quizzes to help prepare you for the four tests and final exam.
Lectures are very boring. No quizzes just big exams which are worth 25% of the entire grade each. He makes students be afraid of A & P, which is nothing to be afraid of.
Horrible class! Lectures are long and he flys through the power points as if you should already know it. He also has favorites in the class. For lab you have to basically teach yourself while he goes on multiple smoke breaks! Very confusing. I do not recommend him. He's tries to make students drop with in first week by scaring them.
All I have to say is that Scott is there to help any student to succeed.
S. Johnson is not the professor to take if you're looking for an "easy-A". He expects you to use your brain and be resonsible for your own success. He does however give great power-point lectures (long lectures but A&P is a lot of info ) and will gladly answer questions until you understand. It's a LOT of work but he helps you retain info for 169
He is a great teacher. Pay attention to the lecture and study your notes and material and you will pass. I adore him. I took classes with other professors and I dropped to wait for him. This is my third semester taking classes with him. He gives you a clue of what's going to be in the tests, during lectures, so, make sure you are not sleeping.
At the beginning of the semester I disliked Scott. Snarky, had a very strict demeanor, and made frightening remarks. I felt like I was supposed to have an extensive background on the subject just to follow along. He's not the greatest at synthesizing info because he has so much knowledge. In the end I respected him. I had to really apply myself.
Gives you a ton of information but tests on things "you should have known" and not covered in the lecture. He loves trick questions and will tests you on examples he uses and not actual information. Doesn't respond to emails... I learned more from YouTube than from this class.
I took an online class with Scott and learned nothing. He goes straight from lectures with only an general outline to follow, but doesn't touch on 3/4th's of the outline. There is no homework except 1 quiz per unit (4 units) and the tests (25% of grade). He does not give reviews for the tests, nor does he answer emails in a timely manner.
Scott is amazing. He posts lecture slides along with recordings that he uses for his online class. It is not a class to take if you are looking for an "Easy A". TONS of detailed information is covered& tests are confusing. He didnt post grades on BB until the end of the semester. He is overall an awesome instructor and lots of help. Take his class.
I had Scott for Bio 168 and 169, and did well in both. A wonderful professor. Doesn't always answer questions without sarcasm, but he does give fair feedback. Fair grader and his lectures are frequently hilarious. I would take Scott for many more courses if I could!
Took the hybrid course of Bio 111. The tests were straight from his online lecture/ppts. You HAVE to put effort into studying and have good study habits to succeed. He will not spoon feed you. I never used the book. He tells you what he expects right at the beginning. I think he is a great prof. and I am taking him again this semester for anatomy.
I took his class for BIO110, Nutrition and BIO168. I am taking BIO169 with another professor because of his schedule and I am missing his teaching style. Scott Johnson is a great teacher, pay attention to class, take notes, listen to lectures and you will pass. He is available in office hours if you want help. I miss him.
I had him for BIO111 and I worked extremely hard for my grade. You will never use the book but you NEED to study and pay to attention to his lectures. Going to his office hours helped so much as well, I was there all the time. Its definitely not the class you want if you are expecting an easy A. I love Scott though, hes really a great teacher.
I took the hybrid version of this class. He usually recorded 4-6 lectures, each around 10-15 minutes long, for each chapter. His lectures are VERY detailed. If you don't take good notes or pay attention, you'll be lost. All exam questions are straight from the lectures. He gives everyone one opportunity for extra credit, no more and no less.
Hardest class Ive had yet. Dont try to cram this class into a once a week at night. Its too much half the class had to drop. Only 4 tests are used for grades . He offers x credit but it cost 70 for the ebook. You WILL need it. Scott is super knowledgeable, funny, and interesting. He will pick on you if you are late. Its hard but I learned ALOT.
Best instructor to have if youre trying to get into 168 or 169.
Professor Johnson it not a good professor if you struggle with the subject. He went way too fast. I dropped his class halfway through the semester and took mrs Statons bio110 class the following semester and it was alot more fun, informative, and easy! Do not sign up for his class!!
I have to say that Scott was a great professor. He really cares about his students and that they succeed. Like any Biology class your grade is determined by how much work you put into studying and learning the material. Don't expect to be spoon-fed, which you shouldn't being a college student. I will totally recommend him to others.
Scott is an incredible professor. He requires a lot of work, and if you expect to get an A without putting a lot of effort in, you won't pass. I went from a 70 average to 95 between 1st and 3rd tests because it took me a while to understand his style. In the end, he is one of the best.
Scott really knows his subject matter well. He has a great sense of humor and never makes you feel stupid if you have a question on material he has presented. He takes the time to go over the material again & again until you understand. He does offer extra credit but you must purchase a Connect code to be able to access the extra credit quizzes.
Don't go into scott's class thinking that it's going to be an easy A. He covers a lot of material so if you don't study outside of his class you will fail. There are no quizes or homework just 4 test, plain and simple. Half the class dropped because of the little room for error, however on the flip side if you study and well on the test..........A!
I took Scott for A+P 1 and 2. He's a great prof. There are not easy A+P classes, they just don't exist, its a large amount of difficult material. I took this class without taking basic A+P, I had to work. Buy the book and buy connect, EC quizes add 5% to each test. Its a hard class, but he's enjoyable and knows his stuff. Scott is awesome.
His lectures are posted online. He expects you to be a quick note taker or already have your notes done. Great lab time.
Scott is awesome... Great lecturer, very clear. Teaches from his slides. No need to even buy the book (unless you want the extra credit) provides recordings of lectures as well as power points. Gives outlines for each chapter so you know what to focus home. He is definitely a no busy work teacher. Would take him again in a heart beat. Very Smart
Scott is awesome... Great lecturer, very clear. Teaches from his slides. No need to even buy the book (unless you want the extra credit) provides recordings of lectures as well as power points. Gives outlines for each chapter so you know what to focus home. He is definitely a no busy work teacher. Only grades are 4 tests, final, and lab practicals
He bases your grade off of 4 tests, a lab test and presentation. Many of his test questions are application of the concept questions. No matter how many classes and labs he cancels, there will not be a sub. My class met twice a week, he canceled 5 classes/labs, family issues. Depended on his online recordings, where he talks very fast & monotone.
I didn't learn almost anything form this class. Professor canceled 6 times lecture classes for family issues however, if you have any issues or get sick the professor will not take this in consideration. Sarcastic and sometimes a little rude, not good on answer emails and don't like when you answer questions during lecture. Definitely don't take!
Scott is a great teacher. Yes, he had some family issues this past semester, but what can he do? He is sarcastic, but he's harmless. People having side-bar conversations during class are usually the ones he's "rude" to when they ask a question about something he just talked about. Recorded lectures are a plus! Put in the work and you'll do OK!
Took class online and got an A. Each chapter is broken up into several videos over power points (avg 10 min). Provides an outline of what to know. Do not try to watch videos night before exam. You need to understand concept. Fill out the outline as you watch and try to do a few videos a day. You can get an A without stress. I wish he taught 112.
Scott Johnson is a good teacher in that he explains the physiology well so that you can better understand the concept. He is sarcastic in his lectures but he also shares his personal beliefs on kids, religion, etc. I don't like that. He gives extra credit quizzes that you can take on Connect. Can earn up to 10 points on your exams. Has favorites.
Scott is funny, even though his jokes might tickle some sensitive individuals. My class was a hybrid last summer but I breezed through it without any problems. Just watch his lecture videos carefully, take your notes and you will be fine. The lab can be problematic though, I didn't even realize that many lecture materials would be on the lab test.
Scott was a good Biology professor. He is absolutely hilarious but is very sarcastic. Be prepared to work hard for an A. His lab practical is a little tricky as well. Some material on his test was not lectured on. He gives extra credit quizzes which are helpful. Buy the access code if you want the extra credit, otherwise you don't need the book.
Worst professor ever He teaches lab in a sketchy manner Lecture tests have a whole load of material without a study guide Final is hard Save yourself and dont take him .
Scott Johnson is the professor you want if you are not comfortable with science. I took a hybrid online lecture, seated lab with him. He provides lecture videos where he breaks everything into digestible chunks. He's not easy and his exams can be tricky. But I promise that if you review the lectures and ask questions, you will do fine.
I took bio 111, 112 and 275 with different teachers. He was the best, you didn't try the others before you say that he is hard. His tests are straight forward from his notes. He doesn't put any tricky questions. He is the best. He Puts online lectures, so if you missed anything you can always go to his online lectures. Take him.
This was my first hybrid class and based on previous reviews of Scott I was nervous. Throughout the semester he is very clear and concise with what he expects and wants out of lab/class. There are no surprises, listen to the lectures, do the quizzes and extra credit. You will do just fine. Does great powerpoint lectures online, you'll learn a lot.
I wont take his class again or recommend him. I got a B thanks to COVID 19 otherwise I was gonna get a D. He does online videos in which half of the lecture goes above your head. I drove 50 mins for the lab and after 10 mins he was like your good to go. You are basically on your own in this class.
I do not recommend Scott Johnson. He goes very fast and is not the best at explaining material. He is very test heavy meaning he gives absolutely no homework so if you dont do well on exams you definitely wont pass. He is blunt and rude to students and doesnt seem to like his job at all. Very challenging course.
If you are taking this class to fill a requirement and not pre-med DO NOT TAKE HIM! My section was during COVID-19 and we started with a full class (around 40) and ended with maybe 8 coming to office hours over zoom for reviewing for the final if that gives any indication to how well he is and difficulty of the class. Don even bother emailing
Do not bother asking simple questions for things you don't understand there is a high probability you will be ridiculed. He defiantly has favorites and kids he absolutely hates. He repeatedly told kids they are the reason he drinks. If you need something important from him plan a year in advance. The grading is almost only exams.
I really liked this Scott and I was very nervous to take his class because of the reviews. Overall hes a really good professor and use his YouTube videos... they help so much. You will do well in this class if you work hard and if you are not willing to learn on your own and put effort outside of class, but if not you wont do well in this class.
He is an amazing teacher. here is the list why: 1. replies fast 2. makes understanding VERY VERY EASY 3. Is sometimes hilarious and sarcastic 4. Nice personality 5. A real talent for teaching
Professor Johnson was amazing! He doesnt believe in busy work so we were able to get straight to the material. His lecture videos are very informative and I loved his witty remarks. He makes the material easy to understand and will help you if you need it. He is quick to respond to emails. I wish he had a BIO 169 class. Study study study though!!
very very good and funny. He uploads his lectures online and explains and points out the stuff that will be on the test and is important. if you listen to his explanation carefully you will totally understand it. He was very easy to me.
Prof Johnson was great for A&P1. His asynchronous video lectures were easy to follow and digest. He made it very clear what was going to be tested - if you watched, reviewed, and studied his lecture videos, you are going to do fine on all tests. I used the textbook minimally to help reinforce just a few concepts. Great prof, would take again.
Professor Johnson is a great teacher! He made A&P less scary and was enjoyable to listen to. He is a very talented teacher that knows his stuff and cares about his students. I took this class entirely online and still felt completely engaged. The course is very organized. I learned a lot and would take Johnson again if I could!
You need to study or youll struggle. Watch the youtube videos he makes bc he mentions things you wont see in the other powerpoints
He seems like a good person, and caring. But he does not respond to emails much. It seems like he doesn't want to communicate with his students. It is difficult to contact him. Be cautious if you get him as your professor.
Tests are from the lectures, make sure you understand everything on the slides or you'll probably end up missing something important. Expect a group project for lab and be prepared to connect lab to lecture and vice versa.
Scott is awesome. He really cares about his students and how they are comprehending all aspects of Biology. He doesn't assign a lot of homework which is great so you can keep studying the more important stuff.
the good thing about him is that he does not give busy work. at all. it was great. there wasn't much work graded other than tests (called lecture exams) and lab practicals. no homework but you do need to check in for attendance. every week, there's a quiz. i relied on his lecture videos so i didn't buy the textbook.
The online course was very disorganized and was rude over email when asking a question! Don't let these reviews fool you... RUN
You will have to work for a high grade but it is very doable. No A&P class is easy. Does a great job of consolidating the relevant information in a manageable way with his lecture videos. I found his sense of humor hilarious. Grading is very clear and fair. Reachable and responds in a timely fashion. I felt both challenged and like I learned a ton.
This has been the most organized online class I have taken at wake tech. Everything you gotta know is in the Lab folders/videos and lecture videos. He has extra credit opportuinties. Easy to reach through email.
Anatomy & Physiology is a tough course, but Scott made it clear what we needed to know and how best to study. Lectures were to-the-point, clear and organized. Book was used for reference only, and I found the diagrams helpful. Weekly online meetings super helpful. Very organized class. Seems to really care about the success of his students.
Can't say enough good things about Scott. AP is already a difficult course but his approach and willingness to help his students go beyond. He gives extra credit, and is lenient. Cares for his students and doesn't care to break some rules if needed. Has online videos which aren't the best but he's available to discuss questions always. TAKE HIM!
Scott is a great professor who explains things so they make sense. He provides great videos, outlines, and powerpoints that you can always go back to reference. He doesn't fill your week with busy work you get time to learn and study. He is extremely smart but doesn't make you feel stupid! He responds quickly. NO GROUP WORK! You will love him!
Oh Scott. Where do I begin. I loved him, he was hilarious. So deadpan and humorous. Lecture videos aren't great but aren't bad either. He was very helpful when I needed it. Somewhat strange grading procedure, however. All he requires for attendance is to just type "checking in" in the discussion board.
This class is hard, but it's meant to be. This was my third time taking this class and this time I HAD to pass and I'm glad he was my teacher. I HIGHLY recommend him as a teacher for bio 168. He understands how hard these classes can be and only wants his students to succeed. Great detailed lectures, available for help.
Mr. Scott Johnson is a great professor! He replies to emails quickly and he is very funny! Please make sure you watch the youtube videos! The tests are based on what he covered on the youtube videos. The textbook doesn't really do much. Please do not only use the slideshow PLEASE WATCH THE YOUTUBE VIDEOS!!!
Online lecture were overwhelming and pretty hard to follow/learn from. You'd like this class if you can learn easily from an in person hour long class condensed into a 15 min youtube video. I hated how assignments were only open from thurs-sat as I missed a lot of assignments because of that. Your camera must also be on for tests. Don't recommend.
Scott was a nice professor. At least at FIRST!!! He had little to no work load but he withdrew me from his course because I forgot to "check in". Although he claimed we could do so online. From then on before this I missed our first test because of the lock down browser he wanted us to use. He was very unhelpful with that situation and pretty rude.
Scott's great, he's sarcastic, reasonable, and just a cool guy. Best for students who learn well taking notes during lecture. He also has recorded lectures you can watch outside of class. (saved my life, I never even opened the textbook) Few assignments, so if that's how you learn he wouldn't be great. Very reasonable and clear grading criteria.
Take him. Hard class, but he makes learning concepts easy. He can simplify things, so if you learn better with details - use the textbook (I do, & didn't need it much). Essential to listen to the (recorded) lectures & take notes. Very receptive to feedback and questions. Clear grader & you knew what to expect. He's hilarious too.
Bad course outline, hard to understand
I withdrew due to this being the wrong BIO class. I can definitely tell you that this professor for his online class was actually okay. If you are use to PowerPoints and listening to recorded lectures then I def recommend him. He is a decent graded and has his outline for the year. I do recommend downloading the lockdown browser ahead of time!!!
I was pregnant during this course and Professor Johnson was amazing and understanding. Actually had a one-on-one session with him and he took his time and explained almost literally all of the bones in the body. Must watch videos of his lectures and study. Also, he is hilarious and has a dry sense of humor that always left everyone laughing.
Professor Scott is sarcastic but reasonable. Lecture videos are decent, and just typing 'checking in' counts for attendance. Textbook isn't essential - Unstuck ai and recorded lectures can help you ace this class.
