Lemme clarify: his TA's are tough graders. Grading down to the pencil color I used. He's generally a decent man imo. The class avg did drop by a lot probably cause it was online. But at least, I've rarely seen him get angry. If he does, he'll just end the Zoom lecture early then bash us about how uncivil we are.

I agree with many recent reviews that Dr. Kelly is a tough marker, but for me personally though, the only problem I have with the course is how boring it is. It's possible that it was interesting with in-class learning/labs, but the assignments he gives are dry. I am disappointed with the lack of effort when it comes to engaging students.

tough grading with no clear grading criteria, expects students to be expert level even though this is only a second year class. Hardest biology course I have ever taken. Doesn't help that this guy cannot communicate what he wants us to know. Average was too high for the first test so he decided to unjustifiably fail the class for everything else.

I think COVID has affected everyone a lot but I don't think he's that bad - he is a tough marker and makes you work for it but it's a doable course. Course content in general is heavy, so take it in a light semester. Pretty standard lecturer. Knowledgeable in his area of research. I think everyone would like him more pre-covid.

He really cares about his students, he wants us to do well and reach our potential. He is an intelligent and well-storied researcher, and expects that students are dedicated to learning the skills that will aid them in their academic and further scientific careers. If that's not your jam, then avoid the stress - because it will be stressful.

This is the worst prof! I have ever had, during this global pandemic, all the profs are really understanding but he is not. He is very late at replying back to the emails and he bell curves down the mark and does not provide a rubric for the assignments. TA's are very rude as well!

Hes horrible. I had 2nd year animals with him first semester. It was online because of covid but oh boy it was something else. The prof expects us to memorize every single word he uttered in lecture. He makes sure our grade distribution is "normal" or low 60s. In order to do this he makes exams harder. The TAs also were terrible by grading unfairly

Provides unclear and vague instructions for assignments and then marks you for extremely specific details. Expects you to know what he said in class word-for-word on exams. Raised the difficulty of exams to fail students on purpose to bring the class average down and then complained about the average being too low. In short, AVOID HIM.

The course and the marking schemes were not very clear and it was difficult to understand what he wanted for assignments. He also expected us to understand details much too specific for the scope of the course. Outside of the course itself he did a poor job replying to students and communicating with them.

Professor Kelly is a really caring prof that knows what he is talking about. You need to take notes on everything he says in lectures in order to have all the material needed to study for the tests. They mark short answers very critically but provide very clear grading criteria. Really enjoyed this class, it was very interesting!

currently writing this before my final of the course. The course requires you to be involved in the lectures & pay attention because any details said during them can be found on a mid term. If you put in minimum amount of work by showing up to class & doing a proper mid term review you will do well. I need a 68% on final for an A in the course.

He was great, I didn't go to any of the lectures because his slides were all you needed to do well. My advice is to not go to his deferred exams (consisting of four questions worth 10 marks each). You are better off going to the regularly scheduled exam I promise, (30 MC, 1 written answer question worth 10 marks).
