He is awesome! The work is tough, but he is so helpful and nice. He wont let you get behind and will always work with you no matter what! TAKE HIS CLASS!
He is such a nice guy! I never read the stuff he asigns, but as long as you take lots of good notes you should be fine. I studied about 3 hours for each test and gots b's. Its pretty interesting material as well, take this class for your relgion credit it the best one!
I tried all I could in this class but he unfairly graded essays and his tests were hard. He gave unfair advantages to others and gave bad grades to those who tried.
Tests are pretty hard, but his class is actually interesting. Be sure to take good notes and you won't have to worry about the assigned reading.
really really hard tests and his class is really boring unless your classmates speak up. i would not recommend his class.
very nice teacher. his tests are hard but the information is straight from notes. you have to study hard, but he tries hard to make sure everyone understands clearly.
His tests were very hard and his lectures were very confusing. I didn't have any desire to go to class because I felt like it wouldn't help. If you miss one day, your screwed. But other than that he is nice, but confusing
His world religions course was pretty easy. All you have to do is put the effort in. Seriously, those who gave him a bad rating are people who are lazy, plain and simple. It may get a bit boring but all courses are like that. The material was interesting and his teaching style works.
The class is verry intresting, the more class particaption the better the class! The tests are hard but not impossible if you pay attention, study and ask him questions! He will always get back to your e-mails quickly and will answer any question you ask to the full extent. The day before tests he makes sure to check e-mail for last any questions
Very cool guy who loves to teach. Talk about how good the Houston Astros are because he does grade easier on the tests if he knows your a big Astro's fan. Study hard for the tests cuz they are difficult but he is willing to help everyone even during the test
His class, like all religion classes at TCU, is not by any means easy, but not impossible. Reading is boring, but helps and definitely KNOW the notes. Write down everything from lecture. He loves the H-town Astros, and it helps if he knows who you are. Hard to get an A, ok to get a B
He's the nicest guy and really wants you to understand. I definately recommend his class to anyone, but you have to know the material for the tests. There's an essay portion that's always the hardest.
Loves sports, so you better start reading into them if you don't. Read everything and write everything down that he says in lec. Exams are rough, but know the info enough to bs your way out of them in the essays.
This guy is a great professor. Theres always discussion in class and its easy to stay awake! What you learn from him actually has value and is fascinating. The exams are kind of tricky. He looks for extreme specifics in the essays and if you miss a couple its easy to crash and burn. He doesnt have an office on campus, so he's hard to het a hold of.
I took his world religions class, and as long as you show up every day and write down everything he puts on the board, you'll be fine. Nice guy, but the essay parts of the tests are what will get ya.
Okay, if you are one of those students who sits in the front of the class, laughs at the professors corny jokes, brown noses, and ACTUALLY participates, then take this class. I had this class at 9:30am and couldn't stay awake. Im a great student and make good grades, but this class is terrible. Everyone in my class agreed with the exeption of a few
He loves his topic and is very knowledgable. Very helpful. Most of his lectures consist of you listening to him talk. You better be a quick note-taker. Tests are medium-hard. He likes true-false questions that trip you up. He always talks right up until the time limit, so be warned if you have to rush to another class far away right after.
Professor Langston, is a very understanding and caring man. He is the nicest teacher i have had. He is very hard! but he really cares about his students
Do not take this man unless you learn by listening. If you need organized notes, this is not the class for you. He will ramble on into an explanation after writing a term on the board and you'll have to pick out the important notes as best you can. test questions are taken mostly from the readings with essays being taken from everything discussed.
I loved this class and it was easily my favorite class(World Religions). Just take the notes that he tells you are important and read occasionally. Journal entries are sometimes a hassle but easy enough. He tells you what will be on the test so it's easy. I really recommend taking this class.
Pretty easy class if you do the journal entrees, and the extra credit. They help your grade so much. The paper is really easy, and the tests were moderately hard. East B, work for the A
He's a nice guy. Good to take freshman year w/ a moderately easy courseload. Upperclassmen should take it pass/fail because of all the reading involved on top of your major classes. Attendance is mandatory, so don't think you can just read and skip every class. Read and know enough to bs your way through essays and you'll be fine!
I never would have taken religion if it hadn't been required but even so, I wish I didn't take it with Langston. He is a nice guy but a really difficult professor; he grades you based on your opinions (for papers and journals) more than your context. If he disagrees with you, he will give you a bad grade. Tests are REALLY hard too; very detailed
He is a difficult professor to have because he grades papers based on your opinions in them, and if they match his or not. He rambles a lot about useless stuff that is never on tests; so much class time is wasted. You never know what is on tests unless you have an old one, and even then its sometimes a shot in the dark. I wouldnt suggest this class.
World Religions. Langston is a great, fun teacher, but is pretty tough. His tests are somewhat tricky, and he grades tough on essays. Pay attention in class, go to review sessions, and ask questions. Work hard and get a B pretty easily, work your butt off to get the A. If you're willing to work hard, take him, especially if you're an astros fa
Very sweet man and very helpful. He enjoys class participation. Do the journal entries and extra credit because they really add up. The tests may be tricky, but he tells you exactly what's going to be on them. If you do the readings, you have a better chance of doing well on tests. Notes are vital, so go to class! (or get them from a trusted peer).
i thought it was not going to be a hard class, but the way he teaches each religion makes it hard! A lot of reading. He gives a review for each test, but you still have to study A LOT to get a good grade!
I didnt want to take religion but its required.. i really wish i hadnt taken this class. Its really interesting but really hard. Langstons teaching style is really annoying he never finishes his lectures because he goes off into tangents but he still expects you to know it for the test. His tests are crazy hard and hes not a fair grader.
Made the class interesting. I came out of it with a lot of new information. Would not recomend for someone who doesnt want to go to class or isnt interested in the subject. Hard but if you do the work you can make an A. Very helpful
great teacher very funny. his tests arent bad if you study. do the journal entrys they help your grade and arent bad at all. take this class.
Dr. Langston is AMAZING. He is a hilrious guy and I would hate the class if he wasn't teaching it. There is alot of reading, but if you do it and you take notes in class then you are good to go. Take him, you will have fun and want to go to his class!
On the whole a good professor. Lectures can be a little disjointed at times, however, the same aspects of the lecture that make it disjointed also make it quite enjoyable. The tests are a little difficult, but better than most religion professors. The material can be boring. In the final analysis: great professor, mediocre class.
Dr. Langston is an awesome teacher for World Religion. I learned alot about contemporary issues in the world and The class is really interesting. Completely worth my time.
Hard quiz and wired questions during exam
Great class with a great professor. He makes it pretty interesting and has a good sense of humor. You definitely have to study, but if you go to class you'll be fine.
Professor Langston is a great teacher, though he gets off-topic a lot. I have learned a lot - it's a pretty interesting class. If you work hard and do all the reading (there is a LOT of it), you should be able to manage an A no problem!
Dr Langston is a very wonderful teacher,i took his spring online history class and its so easy. i enjoyed the 17 weekly quizes and the essays, there is an extra credit essay.... in short he is GREAT and i reccomend him for Hist 1302
Make sure you go to class. He gives you all the information that will be on his test. The study guides are pretty much his test as well. If you put the work in it is not too bad. He is a funny teacher too.
It is a difficult class, but he is an excellent professor. Crystal clear and very kind. Religion is tough at TCU, so you will have to work in this class!
Professor Langston is an AWESOME religion professor. My favorite teacher at TCU. Very clear, helpful, and friendly. Be sure to take notes, read, and ask questions. His tests are TF/essays, but fairly easy because its everything discussed in class or in book. religion is not my thing, but he made it so interesting. take him you wont regret
dr. langston for the native american religion class is SO HARD. do not take this class.. it will kill you and your GPA. that being said dr. langston is awesome and hes so funny. hes a great teacher and always willing to help. probably one of my favorite professors ive had. but his class is hard !!!
Dr Langston is great! He's very approachable and he tries his best to keep the class entertained. His class has reading and projects, but nothing too overwhelming. He's also a relatively generous grader, but probably not the easiest A. Work hard and you'll get the grade you want!
Such a nice man. Wasn't a fan of the class at first. Lots of reading to keep up with. But stick with it because it gets more manageable. He is funny and very willing to help. Going to class and paying attention helps.
Professor was great, very energetic for 8am in the morning. Class was slightly harder than an intro class should be. Readings everyday from a boringly written text book. Tests were mostly over lectures. Big project where you observe two religions which was actually fun. Overall a good class for your religion credit.
I had Dr. Langston for Religions of the World at 8AM. He was always in a good mood, liked to make jokes, and wanted to keep the class engaged. He wasn't very good at managing his lecture time, but he'd modify the tests a bit based on what he taught us. There's a lot of reading, but his reviews and office hours were really helpful!
I really liked this class. If you go to class, listen to the lectures, and take really thorough notes, you'll never have to do the reading. I would spend the entire day before a test studying and ended with a pretty solid A... So not much work required. Go to his office hours before a test and he will hint at exactly what you need to know.
Super sweet guy! He looks just like the teacher from the Incredibles that Dash puts a tack under his seat. Anyway, you don't ever need to read-just skip for something to journal about and take good notes in class and you're set. Impossible to get an A, so most people PassFail it but end up getting a B anyway.
Ended up passfailing because i was going to get no better than a B-. Tests are a lot of true false and there are not many grades. I'm a good student and only missed one class and this class was harder than it needed to be. I did not know a single person that got an A
Wow! What a hard class this was, but then again I'm not a math person. I really enjoyed this instructor, not so much the material. He taught it in such a way that is was possible to understand and will spend the extra time to help you if you need it! I would take him again!
I was super interested in the material of the course, but I ended up pass failing it because it was a super tough course. To get an A you need like a 95, and his tests are pretty tough. That being said, I hardly put any effort in, so if you're willing to read and study you would probably be able to do fine.
I would recommend taking this class just because it really opens your eyes and gives you a different outlook on the world, especially pertaining to the oppression of the Native Americans. You need a 95 in the class to get an A, so it isn't easy, but he offers extra credit oportunities that can get you there. He is a nice guy.
Langston was one of my favorite professors. This is a tough class so I would recommend pass/failing it for sure. He is so passionate about his class and is super approachable. Must come to class or else your grade will suffer and tests will be impossible. Overall he is a great teacher and I would love to take one of his classes again!!
Although this was a hard class, Langston is a very clear and helpful professor. He is straightforward about the 3 tests and a project, and is willing to meet outside of class. The class is tough, but Langston provides 12 points of extra credit that boosts your grade. Just read and attend class, fill out the study guide, and you will do just fine.
Professor Langston is an awesome teacher however he grades on a plus minus system. If you show up, take notes, and read, an A will be manageable. 3 tests and a comprehensive essay and a few other grades to bring your grade up. Good guy who knows his stuff and would recommend this class.
Langston is a just an all around good guy: fair, the grade you get is exactly the work you choose to put in, clear on expectations. Reading word for word isn't as important but make sure to go back to specific passages he cites in the study guide, do journals. He is easy to talk to, organized, and quick to get back to you.
Professor Langston is so awesome. He is really passionate about his work and truly cares about his students. His class is hard just because its a lot of information but if you take good notes, go into office hours, ask questions, and do the study guides you will be fine. The class was really enjoyable and I saw myself learn a lot.
You can get 2 points a week that are almost guaranteed as long as you show that you read and were paying attention but it is so hard for a core class. He is very passionate about what he teaches. He is also very available to help and he offers up to 15 points extra credit. I would recommend this professor if you can't take religion somewhere else!
Dr. Langston is a joy to have. His class is difficult, but he forces you to think deeply about issues discussed in class, which I appreciate. I thought his class wasn't overly challenging, at least in terms of the complexity of the info. The amount of info can be overwhelming if you put off reading and studying. Overall, he's a great prof.
Really good teacher. Gives lots of reading and video assignments that you really don't have to pay too much attention to. As long as you take good notes in class easy B. Also gives a good bit of extra credit.
Dr. Langston's lectures are boring at first, but if you give him a chance he'll grow on you. So will the course. Genuinely a really nice guy and will be happy to help with anything. VERY reading-heavy with weekly journal entries over the reading and some surprise journals in class. Tests aren't awful if you pay attention in class/take notes & READ.
Dr. Langston is one of those professors that you can tell is really passionate about the subject and teaching in general. He makes the class much more interesting than it should be. Religion is known to be tough at TCU, so the class isn't super easy, but if you gotta take religion, take Langston.
The class is so boring, but Langston is very cute and is really passionate about Native American Religion. There is a lot of reading and tests are multiple choice/essay. He gives back tests so people usually have old ones which help to study from. Very hard to get an A but a B is manageable. You have one essay but he grades fairly easy.
Most boring thing of all time I hate it
Langston's a super nice guy and it shows, but his class is a tough one. The low level of interest most people have for the material combined with the difficult work required makes getting an A a challenge, but it is possible. The dry material in the almost nightly readings is all fair game for tests. You HAVE to read and know your stuff to do well.
Great teacher, but there are many way easier Religion courses offered at TCU. RELI 10023. His class covers Native American spirituality, Christianity, and Judaism. Very little effort required daily, but studying for tests is imperative. Extra credit is offered and he tends to give points back if you defend your opinions. Not a blow off, though
Langston is a dawg, dont @ me this class is kinda tough but still hes a solid guy just dont expect to make an A unless you really like boring lectures.
Dr. Langston is really passionate about the material which makes the class way more interesting and enjoyable. For the exams he provides a very detailed review which is sure to help you make an A on each test if you study a bit. He is very accessible and willing to help students out of class. There is a lot of reading but its not impossible
Langston is very passionate about native american spirituality and teaching it to his students. The class is super boring and he always lectures the entire 50 minutes. If you're interested in Native Americans then you'll like it if not, just take something else.
I loved taking Dr. Langston's class because while it was incredibly lecture-heavy, his awkward sense of humor was always funny and he was very clear about his expectations for each assignment. He is also very generous with extra credit opportunities and is very passionate about what he is teaching.
I loved being in Langston's class. His test can be difficult but as long as you take good notes and study you should be fine. He does give extra credit opportunities, and attendance matters. After 5 absences he markes down your grade.
He is the best instructor. Although there is a lot of readings, he explains them well in class. I learned a lot about Native American culture and have a new respect for it. Definitely recommend his courses. (lots of Dad jokes)
So freaking boring. He just talks at the class. Studied for all the tests and didn't pass any.
Talks himself in circles ALL class and a lot of the time goes over time. Reading is super heavy in this class and I had no motivation to do any of it because it is so boring. He is a really nice guy and funny but his lectures are so hard to focus on. Also, his tests are kind of impossible so do the extra credit offered.
I thought this was a intro class. Test and essay are tough even though you go through study guide. Does not curve.
Dr. Langston is very passionate about his teachings, specifically Native Americans, which is evident in his lectures and assigned readings. There were so many readings each night, and his exams were based largely on the readings. Lectures were boring and rarely interactive.
Nice dude that's very passionate about his work, unfortunately class is painfully boring because it's lecture heavy. I fell asleep often and played games on my computer. Fortunately, the material is easy for the most part. Just complete the study guides, skim the readings, search his name on quizlet, and DO THE EXTRA CREDIT!!!!
Langston is a great guy. He is nice and helpful. If you are looking for easy core, this is not the class. 95 and above is an A. If you go to class, and write down everything he says in lecture and everything he says to know from readings on the test, If you know all info you can get an A just a lot of content to know. Scott Langston is a goon.
Took Professor Langston for core credit. The class is over Native American spiritualities and is fairly boring. Concepts in readings are very hard to understand. Be prepared for a lot of busy work. If you are trying to find a religion core class look elsewhere.
Professor Langston is very nice and passionate about his subject. He talks about Native American spiritualities mostly even though the class is about that and three other topics. He never gave a test so that was nice but there was a project worth half of our grade. He can be boring and it is hard to focus on his lectures. Class was easy overall.
One of the kindest professors at tcu! Passionate about what he teaches and ensures he helps his students. A lot of short readings as well as books assigned. Weekly journal entries and occasional writing assignments is what grading mainly consists of. No quizzes or exams. Definitely would recommend for religion!
Dr. Langston is an amazing professor, and tries to help you out if you have anything going on that prevents you from doing work. He was really understanding as the class got pushed online and didn't require zoom calls. Definitely annotate the books and read everything assigned! So glad I took his class.
Excellent class!
Some of the concepts in this class were interesting, but there is A LOT of reading. No test however, just do the journals, and the writing assignments really aren't that difficult. Very nice, more than willing to help anywhere needed. You can tell he is passionate about the course, and also cares about his students. Recommend for an easy RELI cred.
NO tests + you dont have to pay attention to lectures. Only assignments are weekly journal on readings. Very organized, entire semester is laid out in the syllabus on the first day. Huge project is the final which is open-ended and time-consuming. But the material is interesting and he is a good teacher. 95+ is an A
Highly recommend taking Professor Langston. I took his Understanding Religion: Social & Culture- Native American Christians and American Indians lecture class and it was probably the easiest religion class at TCU. There are no tests, but there is quite a bit of reading, writing, and a big project that's in replacement of the final.
Probably easiest religion class at TCU. No exams just a semester-long project and weekly journals. Lectures are boring but don't have to really pay attention. Assigns lots of reading, but truly not bad at all. Professor is the sweetest man and I highly recommend taking for a Religion Credit.
Professor Langston is very passionate about Native American religion. Grades consist of weekly journal entries, 2 papers, and a semester-long group project. NO TEST!!! The grading scale is a little weird though. This is definitely one of the easier religion classes at TCU and I highly recommend it.
Professor Langston is a great person. There are no exams and no final. Instead the class requires you to submit a Journal each week based on that week's reading or videos. The final is a project that he gives you sufficient time to prepare for. Just make sure to do your readings and come to class. He doesn't accept any late assignments.
Professor Langston is extremely knowledgable and the material of this course is so interesting. I am a business major and took this for a religion credit, but I would 100% take any other class that Langston teaches in the future. Not only is the class interesting, but he brings in speakers who are so engaging.
One of the easiest religion classes. He spends a lot of time repeating the same things every single class. He only grades tough on one project. There are no tests or quizzes, just a weekly journal. If you show up, you'll get a hundred. And Langston is a chill dude.
While he doesn't give you any tests this is made up for by the way that he grades his papers. For starters you need to get over a 95% in the class to get an A, so it is almost impossible. He also docs points for the smallest things and he is a very boring lecturer. If you're planning to take it pass/fail it's an easy class to pass with little work.
DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THE GOOD RATINGS. There are so many readings and the only students who can actually enjoy his lectures are the try-hards who can sit through the most boring class I have ever been in. He will say the same thing over and over for an entire lecture. Also, it is way too difficult to get an A because he requires a 95% or above.
Such a boring class. It is way too hard to get an A because of his grading system. Take something else.
I took this class thinking it would be an easy A, but he grades very badly. He doesn't really care about how much work you put into assignments at all.
Honestly, I tried very hard to understand the meaning of this class, however, Prof Langston's hostility towards Christians and white people make this class unbearable. The assignments are designed for you to express agreement with the course ideologies even if you may not. Although there are no tests or quizzes, there are better options to take.
Lectures were extremely boring and felt like a waste of time. The weekly journals are super easy, and there are no tests or exams, just a semester long essay/project, which for me was a bit difficult. He is kind of picky when he grades though, and it's really hard to get an A because of his grading system.
Do not look at old ratings. Used a Pass/No Credit on the class. The grading is VERY subjective and the course content is very heavy and hard to understand. I thought I would be able to get passed this but it did not work out. A is also 95% or above. Take another class
Wasted my time with this class and professor. No tests but there are a lot of essays. Essays are highly penalized for using the wrong terminology or really anything you might not say correctly. Additionally unless you are looking for a class to make you feel bad for being Christian or American, I would not recommend.
