decent guy, if you go to his office hours he is very helpful. just hard to follow during lecture.

what a magnificent man, loved going to his class every monday, tuesday, wednesday and friday, i would hang out with him until 9:00pm after days i had lab and he would thoroughly explain all the material i was having a hard time with, and there is nothing more i hate more than chemistry but this professor made it worth wild =)

Dr Lefurgy is a fantastic professor and really knows his subject. The tests are based off his notes. HW's are long and very time consuming but very interesting. The text book is horribly put together. Had to use books from other class's to supplement. Knowledge of genetics and cell bio along with some mathematics and gen chem is mandatory to pass.

Such a nice and funny guy. His tests were extremely straight forward and i loved that he gave a practice exam before each test. He then helps you answer the questions on the practice exam the day before the test. If you go over that and know how to do the problems then you'll do great. OWL hw quetions were annoying but overall good teacher.

It is wonderful to see his excitement for the subject matter, he explains things well, but he is a bit unorganized.

Dr. Lefurgy is such an amazing teacher. He enjoys coming to class everyday at 8 in the morning to teach his students and make class as fun and interesting as possible. He isnt an easy teacher but if you listen to him and take notes, you will do very well. He extends his office hours for his students when needed and is so helpful. Best teacher ever.

Dr. Lefurgy is definitely not an easy professor for Biochem, but is awesome. The class it self is very difficult, so you have to work extremely hard to get a good grade. He gives as much extra credit as he can because he knows the class is hard. He has such a passion for teaching, you can actually see it. Great professor.

He gives very good lectures, but writes a lot. You should show up to class and go to extra help. His exams are long- so know you're stuff and be prepared. He gives the grade you work for. So don't expect to get an A just for showing up. You learn a lot.

Cannot recommend this man enough. Teaches an incredible amount of material without making it take over your semester. Amazing teacher, nice, hilarious (only to those who get his jokes), and extraordinarily fair from all angles. Is always willing to go the extra mile e.g., by holding lengthy review sessions even though he doesn't have to. The best.

I loved this class. Fantastic teacher, goes way out of his way to teach students. Class is so interesting, he doesn't use powerpoint. While this class is hard, he gave extra credit on tests and is more than fair with grading. If you write what you know, he tries to give you credit where he can. TAKE his class if you like biochem!!

This is a really helpful professor. He does everything to help you pass except doing your work. He will easily help your grade go from a D to a B all you need to do is be wiling to work and ask. He is very funny and makes class enjoyable. He also very patient so don't be afraid to ask questions. He is very easy to connect with.

Lefurgy is the best chem professor I've had so far at Hofstra. He makes sure everyone understands the topic and if not, he takes time out of class to make sure we know everything. He gives practice tests and review sessions. Go to his office hours, he will have you do the problem but help you along the way. I'm gonna find him for every class

LEFURGY. let me tell you. hes the best chem professor ive ever had. in all honesty. not like other professors who read ppts to you. straight to the point and he starts doing problems on the board and if you dont get it he will try as many approaches as needed until you do. very good with online hw and tests and quizzes. also gives a classwork grade

Dr. Lefurgy is a pretty cool man. He is really reasonable. Drops 2 quiz grades. There are 4 exams in total. The practice exams are helpful. Sapling homework will help. If you took AP chem it will help. Also he writes out the notes and uses powerpoint for 1 topic. There is groupwork sometimes. If you don't get something, ask and he will help.

make sure you go to class and make sure you take notes! study your notes and you will do fine! great professor. 163 is perfect for MCAT metabolism so take it the semester before you take your mcat

Dr. Lefurgy is an awesome professor. He teaches the material at a reasonable speed, but always makes sure people understand. He has several office hours and they are very helpful if you come with questions or practice labs or questions on Sapling. The homework (Sapling) isn't too bad, but if you wait till the last minute it will get heavy.

He really does try to make the course as easy to pass as possible. His tests are difficult, but if you work really hard and study his practice tests you'll do well. He really does care about helping each student and lets you have a test dropped and 2 quizzes dropped. The only down side is that his office hours are crowded.

Take Dr. Lefurgy's class! He's generally very patient and really wants all his students to do well. If you don't understand something just go to office hours and he'll clear everything up for you. Plus he's a super fair grader. The only downside is that he moves a little fast in lecture and may randomly be moody. Other than that he's awesome!!

Dr. Lefurgy is a great chem professor! He's willing to help kids during office hours which are honestly groups of kids in a conference room. He lectures quickly but covers everything that must be known. Gives chapter quizzes and his exams are very similar to practice exams his uploads on blackboard.

GO TO OFFICE HOURS!!! makes it worthwhile to show up to office hours. Very approachable and you can talk about anything with him.

Lefurgy is the BEST professor to take for any chemistry class honestly. He is so nice and respectful. His office hours are the key to get good grades or even boosting your grades. His office hours really saved my life. Oh and he gives really easy extra credit but his tests aren't that easy, but they were fair.

Take Bchem162 with only him and noone else. Mudorff is a BIG FAT NO DONT JUST DONT I WARNED U. Lefurgy is amazing and will make bchem a good experience for u whereas mundorff will make it hell. Trust me, I took both.

Don't know why people rate him so harshly, he's such a nice man. His tests are not that hard and he gives extra credit. If you go to office hours and do the extra credits you will do good in his classes.

He's a better teacher in-person but he does his best online. His tests are tough so take advantage of paper summaries, group work and most of all extra credit to help your grade. There's a lot of content so don't fall behind on lectures. Stay on top of material to do well, async lecture helps with schedule. He teaches 162 in a similar structure.

This is the best Biochemistry professor in the university. Take him over Mundorff any day. He is so sweet and nice tbh. BCHEM 163 is the 2nd semester of biochemistry, which is usually taught in 1st semester of medical school and i am glad i took this during my undergraduate year. 3 Exams + final all online. Lectures are online. + gives extra credit

Dr Lefurgy is a very nice guy. He is understanding, but overestimates the amount of time students have. He expects us to watch hours of lectures before each class and show up knowing the material. The lectures are good, but time consuming. There were a lot of tests and quizzes, but always curved. Overall it wasnt too bad, just study and utilize EC

Some of the reviews are so harsh. I loved Lerfurgy as a professor. If you came to him with questions he was always available to help. Office hours are great for getting review in or reviving clarification. Text book problems helped a lot with tests. You will have to work, but class is definitely doable. He helps out with extra credit alot.

Dr. Lefurgy is excellent! He is a real gem. Took an accelerated summer course. The course is flipped so you listen to lecture on your own time and do practice problems in class. Great teacher and cares a lot about his students. He gives alot of homework but will extend if you need him too. Also, he's very lecture heavy but will go back and take time to explain if you need him too. Drops lowest test grade and replaces with next lowest and lowest quiz grade. You have to pay attention/do the homework or you won't pass.

Hes very organized and has a lot of resources available on Bb. He tries to make analogies to make concepts easier. Hes always willing to help, especially with reviewing for tests. He pushed back test dates to accommodate with our cluster test, which was very considerate of him. I did take AP Chem, but he still explains things really well.

I hate Chemistry, but he made it likable. He was easy to reach, made the effort to learn our names, helped us relax before a test, and gave partial credit. He is the best professor I had this semester. Chemistry is hard itself, but if you go to his office hours and practice with the resources he provides, then you got it.

i think lefurgy is the best professor to take for bchm162. he gives SO much extra credit and his tests are literally from the lecture. the only bad thing is the flipped classroom because you're just wasting time in class besides group work days and watching lectures at home can get dreadful. but he is a good teacher and wants you to succeed

Dr. Lefurgy is an amazing person overall and Biochem 162 with him his great! However the only downside is he teaches through flipped classroom, he doesnt teach in person at all. And as per grades, the only thing he actually "GRADES" are the exams. Everything else is an easy 100 if u do it. Like paper summaries are an easy 100, dont worry about that

Pretty easy grader, gives partial credit. Go to tutors, they will help you get basically 100s on each homework assignment. 2 reports, the second one is pretty hard... make sure to start ahead of time. Super understanding. Very easy to reach. Sometimes is intense and scary, but mostly fine. Really make sure to follow safety procedures.

Pretty goated professor. keep up with the lectures and use flashcards to memorize everything. his tests arent too tough but he grades very easily. lot of extra credit. took him over summer and it wasnt too bad

THE BEST PROF EVER! Chem is soooo hard but he makes it so much more digestible. Very understanding and always available to help. His students are his life and he does everything he can to help. The rigor of chem is inevitable but he makes it a lot easier. Lectures are perfection. VERY homework heavy but it prepares you for exams perfectly.

There isn't a professor who cares about their students more than Dr. Lefurgy. He dedicates so much of his time to his students' success, and it's painfully obvious. Ignore the spam 1 ratings. I had Dr. Lefurgy for CHEM 003A and BHCM 162. Tons of extra credit, always accessible outside of class, and clearly explains complex topics. 10/10.

Biochem is definitely a very hard subject that requires a LOT of work outside of class, however Dr. Lefurgy provides online lectures to watch before class and then goes over and explains the important material you should remember for exams. lot of extra credit opportunities.

GO TO OFFICE HOURS. very nice guy, wants everyone to succeed. material is average/hard, its honestly whats expected for chem 003. tries to remember everyones name. provides a lot of practice, and office hours are super helpful to attend, even if you don't have any questions. tests are very straightforward. 5 extra credit points per test

Best Professor Ive had. Had him last semester, honestly miss his lectures sm. The course pace is a bit hard, but that was expected as for first semester. Tests are VERY reasonable, office hours were honestly super helpful, Go To Them!! Practice problems super helpful. He is very kind and always makes sure we understand if we have any questions.

BCHM 162 is a fast-paced, difficult course, and will require preparation and self-studying before lecture. In class, Prof. Lefurgy reviews the content and answers any questions students had. He provides adequate resources to prepare students for exams, and does not stray from his exam outline. Very lecture heavy but his personality makes up for it!
