very hard, but he helps you. tests suck and is not easy to get a passing grade. will need tutor!
He made calculus easy, then when you take his tests you realize how hard he can make it...curves though. Got an 88.5 and he wouldn't give me an A, thought that blew seeing as how out of 10 students left half were failing and i was doing damn well.
The course was fun because he is also a physics major and could make lots of practical applications. He is good at explaining the material because he works with high school students a lot and just teaches at Grossmont for fun!
Made me really get a feel for 3-D spaces. Good explainer.
My Mr.L rocks man. Seriously he is like a dad to me. I have never met a math teacher that helped sooooo much. He goes out of his way for students who he really shouldn't go out of his way for. Dude if I can pass anyone can pass his classes.
I actually had math w/ him in high school and it was the best class ever! I still remember how he always made time to help everyone. He even let me ask questions during tests b/c I would freeze. He knew I knew the math and understood my problem.
Great teacher at any level from geometry to physics and calc. If your not clear in his class then rethink your skill level and work harder because he does everything he can to help....
He's the best humored math teacher I have ever had. He's very energetic and physically expressive as well. He's always offering help to the class and he's a very fair grader! Scott's awesome! End of story!
He is awesome! If you review the quizzes, you'll do fine on the tests. He explains everything very clearly and has a good sense of humor (he might talk a lot about his water bill though). Everyone should take his class, period.
Scott is awesome and always helped me out. if you are going to take Math 120, take this teacher. he is simple, funny, and a great guy.
He was the hardest Math teacher I ever had, but you learn a lot. There was a short quiz every day. He was helpful, and REALLY knows his stuff. He explains things well, but his tests are tricky as hell.
if you want to learn, this is the class to take. very helpfull. quizzes every class. do the homework and you'll do fine. have to study but will get a good grade. has the resull of the tests the same night. funny techer
Scott is an awesome math teacher and has a great personality. Very fair grader and makes math fun, very helpful. His class is difficult but he makes it interesting. He has lots of jokes and cracks me up. Great guy, would take him again anytime.
Calc 1 is hard. This proffessor makes it harder. If you want an easy A, drop and pick someone else, if you want any A, drop him. If you want to learn Calc regardless of its effect on your GPA he is your man.<keep him out of story land if time gets shor
Calc 1 is tough, even for a math geek like me. Scott did an awesome job of explaining everything. Helps everyone he can and goes out of his way. Doesn't just teach the how, but also the why which makes a lot of things easier. 100% recommended. Hopeful
One of my best math teachers ever. Made Algebra understandable for a non-math person like me. Work hard though, he is tough. I got a B+ :-}
Awesome teacher, tests and quizes are difficult and make you think. Don't take him if you don't want to be challenged.
he's an awesome teacher. difficult but awesome. i've never liked a math teacher so much. and he has a quirky sense of humor. tests are a pain, just know the material and show up to class and it's not bad. i've never enjoyed a math class so much. i highly recommend taking it with him.
I can't stand people wasting my precious time and valuable money with one mind-numbing, self-absorbed, tangential story after another! JUST TEACH THE MATH!! It's obvious he knows his stuff...he TELLS you so! And he should after 20 years of experience. But can he really teach? Is a curve a crutch?
Liebs is great! Your grade is easily attainable, I can only speculate on why anyone would have any problems with him - they are unwilling to work. It's laid out plain and simple in his class how to earn your grade. With any math you have to do the work to learn it... Liebs is fun and willing to help
He does a good job teaching math 180. Although, he wastes so much time with nonsense stories which causes him to be short on time so you end up getting 2 sections in 20 minutes. You dont get any good examples to study until a quiz. He asks trick questons on tests which if you don't see what to do, you'll get lost in your own algebra.
If you are not a math wiz do not take his class. He quizes on the homework from the previous class before you have gone over it so if you didn't understand what you were doing you do poorly on the quizes. He eats up the class time with stories and then goes way to fast over the sections. He is not willing to take the time to help if you need it.
mm...study..study..study..if you hate math..i recom strongly don't take him!
This guy is good at math but since he can teach the class in 30 minutes he should just teach it in 30 and let everyone go home to study. he talks alot which is fine just don't keep all of us there till 9:50 when we could be out at 8:00.
Best math teacher around.Have to put in the effort to get an A but he IS helpful despite what others say. He brought me a book to use for extra practice when I took him over summer.I got a B with NO study save 4 hours before the final. His stories are actually interesting, made the 3 hours in summer fly by.I now consider him a friend, which says a lot
Math is hard. You must study. If you can't handle the heat, get out of the fire. Fortunately Mr. Lieberknecht has a fire-proof suit that he is willing to share with us students. No really, he saved me from the fire that was my own laziness.
He is intelligent, kind, very attractive person. He cares about what kind of mistakes we made, and he gives us points for incorrect answer, so we dont have to disappoint at math.
If you put in the effort, you will definately pass! He is a wonderful teacher and is always willing to help if you need it. In addition, he has a good sense of humor so it never gets dull.
This is definitely a fast pace and difficult course for summer. You'll definitely have to study to get a descent grade, but he's an extremely fair grader. He is very helpful and takes time for ALL questions. His stories are practical for better understanding and funny. He really keeps the attention of the class. 100% recommended! Thanks, Scott!
ok so I took Liebs in High School and am soooo excited to get to have him again in college. I didn't have him for calc but when I needed help I always went to him. He's awesome and I love him to death...!
Good teacher. I took his class last summer, I got an A. My god, he does really good job. His explaination is really clear. He is helpful, kind, and nice guy. He is really smart teacher.
Nice person. Not the best option for those that find math a struggle to begin w/. He seemed to care more about his own personal schedule re: the syllabus for convenience sake than the class's success. Several students got a D or F on the test just before going into the final despite their best efforts.
Honestly if I had not had prior knowledge of the material his class would not have helped me. His teacher methods did not facilitate the use of notes and I found it hard to focus in his class because of the focus more on himself and how well he could do in the class rather than figuring out a way to help his students do better at calculus.
I was a bit apprehensive about taking the course during the summer because of the quick pace in which the material has to be covered. However, my apprehension was quickly relieved when I realized I could glean most of the information from the lectures. He has an excellent, simplified manner of explaining the material!
I took this course during the summer and the material is covered very quickly. If you're not a fast learner when it comes to math you better expect to study your butt off if you plan to take summer school. Scott is a very good teacher though. We got to drop our lowest test and the daily quizzes really help you target what you need to study.
Spring 07 - Very good instructor. Has quizzes to reinforce homework material, but doesn't go over questions before the quiz. However, he has open office hours before or after class in the library. Unfortunately I didn't have time and it affected my grade...but if you have time it would be very helpful.
So far I'm not very impressed by this professor. I am coming into a very basic math class after not taking math for eons, and the pace is so fast I have to spend a lot of time on this subject and I'm afraid my others will suffer.
Great professor. If you want an A or B be prepared to study a lot, especially over summer, unless math comes to you easily. Very good at explaining the concepts so that almost anybody can understand them. Keeps the class interesting and fun. Tests are challenging, but fair. His priority is for you to understand the material, not getting an A.
Took his Calc I class during the summer and boy was it fast pace. He doesn't lie when you need at least 8 hours to learn the material for that day (though personally I studed for 2-4 hours every day). His quizzes and exams are closely correlated with the homework he assigns. Good overall teacher, one of the best at Grossmont, take him if you can.
I took his clas in summer, and I needed to study at least 2~5 hours for quiz, and I couldnt sleep for two days before the test. I got unbelievable grade because he is a professor who wants all students to succeed. I couldnt speak English well, but he explained everything with patience. > _</I am doing well in 280 because of him! I learned a lot!
Let me warn you now, if your a visual/kinesth learner, you will have a hard time in this class. Most explanations are explained in class verbally, he speaks very quickly. Bring a recorder. The class has a quiz everyday before going over homework. Good luck if you didn't get it. In-class review is limited. Max times someone in class has retaken = 7.
calc is a hard/broad class by definition so the people who blame the material as being hard or the teacher moving to fast are stupid. there's a lot to cover in the topic, its not the teachers fault. Scott is very helpful at explaining things. if you actually do the homework, youll do ok. quiz/tests are based directly off homework. grades fairly.
My experience with Scott was good. You start the class with a 3-5 question quiz that came from your homework and then proceeds to go over the homwowrk with any and every question you have. The lectures are easy to understand. Just make sure you do your homework, and study the quizes before the tests. Best math class i've had so far!
Stay away, I'm in love with math, but I took two semesters ago, and he just sucked! he was distracted by trying to smart ass everyone in the class, although he know very well about math, but he doesn't know how to teach...btw tests are ridiculously HARD!
Good teacher - quizes every class but helps you learn from your mistakes. Funny and likes student participation. Made class fun and intertaining.
Good teacher would take him again. You will get what you put into the class so do the homework and ask questions and you will pass. Test questions from homework. Weekly quizes - really helps to learn from own mistakes. Scott takes the time to help either before or after class or via email. Highly recommend!
Facts:when explaining material in class Scott skips steps that are important. Has a smart-aleck sense of humor. If you don't know material it does not matter to him. He moves quickly. Scott shows you what he knows about math it's all about him. Math 110
Quzzes were given every class which ate into the time for instruction so it was "teach yourself" trig. Exams were extremely hard! No handouts or notes allowed at all! No review papers. Sink or swim and good luck - you better already know this stuff.
Quiz before every session: At least look at the book and your notes before every class and you should do okay. Tests are very difficult, and he commonly mocks those who in past classes couldn't finish on time. Definitely a smartass & wastes time with stories. All of that aside, provides good insight and (usually) comprehensive explanations.
He's a good teacher, I really like his laid back attitude, but he goes fast and you have to be willing to read and study, but that's college, and it's how it should be.
Plan on teaching yourself the material. He takes up lots of class time telling stories, very poor time management. If you don't understand his lecture, he tells you to see a tutor. He offers very little assistance and has a very snarky attitude. I got an a only because I worked my butt off learning the material on my own.
He is the nicest guy! The class on the other hand was very difficult. It was a lot of material and I had to learn it by myself. Spent hours in the math lab and didn't learn much from class lectures. I put in so much effort and time and finished with a B.
Loved him! i had him in high school, so i made sure to take his class at grossmont. Super funny with his stories and witty comments. Make sure to ask questions...make sure to use the book and do the homework. Math takes practice.
Did not learn a single thing from his in class lectures. He spends half the time talking about his stupid dog or stories that no one cares about. Just reads how the author did the math out of the textbook without much clarification. It can be very tough. That being said he seems like a nice enough dude.
Scott is helpful as long as you ask questions. Make sure you come to class and do the homework before you come to class. Quizzes are taken every class period. As long as you pay attention and do the homework or study beforehand, you will be successful in Scott's class.
I like Scott, I had him for two of my classes. He is very funny and I enjoyed his stories. However, he teaches out of the book. He just places the book on the over head and goes over it. He does not use the board at all. If you take him don't go to class, because you can go over the book yourself. It's the same thing. Basically, I taught myself.
Nice guy but does waste some time talking about the unimportant stuff. He'll tease you for asking questions, but don't let it discourage you because he'll tease you for not asking if you should have. Fast paced. Get ready to study.
he is very bad teacher really he doesn't teach good his questions very difficult he doesn't discus the lesson enough , i didn't like him never
This is the best teacher I have ever had. The class is hard, but it is very interesting. Although English is not my first language and I have been living in USA for one year only, I could understand almost everything. If you are working hard and have a lot of time to study, take this class. You will like it.
So this was my second time taking stats. My last stats teacher sucked. Scott on the other hand is a very good teacher. If you have questions about anything he will go over it for you. He teaches out of the book which is great because if you dont get something at home then you can just look over your book. Very nice guy. You must study to pass.
I am the kind of student who cannot do math, I learn it and I forget by the time test is here. What's good about this professor is that you have a quiz every class (trust me this is good) I failed this class and learned nothing. But with him everything seemed so easy. A lot of homework, but deffinely helped me.
In a math class, you'd suppose to learn how to work and solve mathematical problems, not with Scott, we learned through power points created by the texts' author. If you think you can learn through the text, you might pass,if you feel like you need to be shown the steps to solve problems, stay away from Scott Lieberknect
If you want to feel stupid, and humiliated in a math class and ending up dropping take him. Seriously STAY AWAY.
I noticed that this teacher does not give any examples when he teaches. He spent a lot of class time off topic talking about other things (he knows that). When the time had come for quizzes and test, even if you have studied, questions placed on the test were none like the homework/quizzes. Poor Quality teacher and he humiliates you for asking q's!
I don't hate nor like Scott. I'm not being biased. The honest truth: he does go by powerpoints with minimal examples, but YOU need to go straight home after a lecture and DO THE HOMEWORK. It helps you retain the information. It's a math class, you need to practice problems repeatedly. His exams are fairly easy - q's come from quizzes. He's not bad.
Scott is a nice teacher and has a clear grading criteria but, in order to pass this class you need to do all the homework and quizzes. Go to the math center and tutorng. Tough class and he uses power points. He does not give examples for the class to do. First chapters are easy but as the semester goes on the chapters get tough.
I think Scott is a great teacher! He cares about his students and respect his students. He will make adjustments for you if you have a good reason. I hate math, but Scott tried to make it a fun class and I learned a lot from him. I think some of the negative reviews on here are not fair for him though, but just my personal opinion.
Great teacher if YOU apply yourself to the class. Tests are easy if you study. projects, tests, homework, and quizzes are not hard if you are in class, listen and ask q's. Really great teacher that does talk a lot but tells you what you need to learn and the best possible way. You will use the book to just supplement the information he tells you.
I had him in high school and again as a Intermediate Algebra course as a refresher before I took Stats. He is like a Dad, he is funny and helpful but show up and pay attention. Its tough stuff to learn but he makes it doable. I tried stats with another teacher and they absolutely sucked. Scott is the man. Take his class if you want to learn Stat
He was an amazing teacher I will be taking him for another math course for sure. Great clear lectures really cared if you understood or not and took time to really help to cater many students individual needs. Made class very casual and enjoyable.
After being out of school for 8 years, Scott's College Algebra was my first foot back in the door. He is very fair, extremely skilled at conveying concepts to the students. You have to study to pass this class, I put in 2 hours a day and got a 98% overall, didn't have to take the final. Lets you drop lowest grade (test, quiz, etc). OUTSTANDING!
He is an easy teacher. he uses power points and does not give examples for the class to do. However, he grades easily and even extend the day for the homework online. there are take-home quizzes every class. You should read the book to understand.
Scott is hilarious and super great at explaining the material. Just make sure you don't get too behind in the hw and study hard for the tests. He also lets you drop your lowest grade!
Unfortunately, schools are shortening semesters/classes so there was a lot of material to go through and not a lot of time. Not a lot of notes because of that, but must have text book cause that's how he teaches. Has a great sense of humor and is more than willing to work with you and encourages, often. Drops lowest test. Would love to take again.
Don't necessarily need the book, but it can be helpful for some. There are quizzes after every class, and you're allowed to get help on them if needed. The tests can be a little tricky if you don't understand all of the material, so ask for clarification.
Gotta be one of the best profs in the department, dude is super nice and genuinely wants you to get the best grade you can in his class. Class was hard but predominately because of the material and not him. Tons of homework and the exams are hard lowkey
Good professor. Sometimes goes off topic, goes on tangents with stories that are unrelatable to some people. Will teach you everything you need to know about Stats, my next class, above this one, was a cakewalk after this course. Sometimes doesnt give enough time for tests, too many problems. Gotta do the HW
Scott is probably my favorite teacher I have ever had. He genuinely wants everyone to pass and get a good grade, the class for me was SUPER hard but he always answers emails and drops your lowest test score. If you have a 95 you don't have to take the finals. He's like the grandpa everyone wish they had. Attendance isn't mandatory but needed.
Scott is amazing, especially considering he teaches the most hated class in the history of Math! I absolutely hate the subject but love the professor. He truly wants every one of his students to succeed, and gives ample opportunity to do so. As long as you are studying the material, and paying attention to lecture you'll do fine. Scott gets an A+.
Scott inspired me to enjoy Math. Statistics is the most challenging subject of my college career. However, Scott made Statistics doable, when youre willing to put in effort. Hes always available after class, motivational and a true joy to be around! Although my 4.0 gpa is no longer (got a B) haha; I still consider myself lucky to have had Scott.
Excellent class with an excellent professor. There was only one class that I considered to be a weak point, which is when he just went over the book and didn't really do an example problem. Otherwise, the whole semester was excellent in terms of tests and teaching. Homework is terrible, its mostly useless and he needs to change to something else.
Scott cares about his students and has an excellent teaching style. I am awful at math, and this class really made me like stats even though I struggled. Tests are just like the quizzes. Go to class, do your HW and you will be fine. Highly recommend him! He is always willing to help students.
Good professor, he tries his best to help students that are struggling by staying behind after class or showing up early to help. But don't expect him to hold the class up just for you. He may take a point off a quiz or test that you may not agree with but his grading system as a whole is incredibly generous so i dont try to argue it much.
scott is the best professor i've had at grossmont so far! He really cares about his students and he is hilarious. He tries his best to help you and help you understand. 10/10 Take him ! You just have to not miss and ask questions and you'll be fine
I personally went off by his lectures and passed his class. During lecture, if you're not so sure just ask and he will stop and help you. During homework, if you don't understand a question just email him the question & he will solve it out for you step by step. If you miss class don't worry he records his lectures! YOU WONT REGRET TAKING HIS CLASS
I went straight to MATH160 after taking stats in HS & he is the best! The quizzes are based on the lectures, the test as well. You have 5 attempt to get a good grade, he takes off your 2 worst quiz and hw grades! Just take notes during lecture, do the hw, quiz, and test and you will pass. TAKE HIM YOU WONT REGRET IT!
