Malloy gives a lot of homework but spends about an hour at the beginning of the next class going over it. He really tries to make sure everyone understands the concepts before continuing on to the next section. His tests are easy if you do your homework!
Very well organized,a fabulous math teacher!! Funny, humorous, and very nice. Remember ALL the names of his students in his class...treats his students as his friends...so cool! Malloy is just extremely good!!! You will learn a lot from his lectures..
Malloy barely knows enough mathematics to get by. Extremely immature for someone his age. Makes you sing math songs in class. Collects homework as quizzes because he's too lazy to make real quizzes. Take someone else who respects you as a college student.
you will be alright in this class if you do all the works. he is a fair teacher. If you act like a little kids then he will treat you like a little kids in front of classmates.
Excellent teacher. Some of the material is diffcult but he is very helpful. Do all the assigned work and participate in class and you'll do fine
The classroom is comfortable and relaxing! He always smiles and its easy to learn b/c he's a genius and knows exactly how to explain it all.
He respects everyone he is fun, polite, but there is a lot of homework, he gave cum. rev. form the book as the test so if you study it it's an easy A. Cool guy, and yes he is a brainiac. Ask about TV B Gone.
I agree with the other student who claimed that Mr. Malloy is immature. He deffinatley has something odd going on inside him. He seems to have a talent for teaching lower div. courses but he does not have what it takes to teach calculus. Please take another teacher if you have to take this course
Mr. Malloy is a very interesting and helpful teacher. Had him for TAP math.He loves to work with students. As long as you study, do the assignments, come to class, ask questions,it is a fun class. If I had to take math 40 again,it would be with him.
he teaches real simple.. i remember learning some thigns in high school.. but after i took mr. malloys class..he explains it so simple that i understood it 10x better.. and hes mad funny. he never gets angry.. hes never unfair..and gives ALOT of EASY extra credit.. hes awesome :D
he has very strict attendance rules and hands out little slips if you miss a class. he doesn't like to help out and really needs to grow up just like other students have said. he makes you stay the full class period and if you need to leave early, it counts as a tardy.
As many other people have said, this teacher is very immature. Some might enjoy his class for his antics, but if you really want to learn calculs his is a mistake. However, very VERY easy class to pass cause all you have to do is attend class and if he likes you, you'll get tons of extra credit.
I came to him with a concern and he just looked at me with a huge grin before laughing at me and blaming me for my problem, without even listening to me seriously. Aside from that his teaching is awful and his way of evaluating students is terrible too. Using homework as quizzes = lazy teacher.
Dude, how could those other people like this teacher? He must have been switched by aliens cause the MALLOY I know is a little kid, childish, and does not teach math. He's in love with his CALC, wastes class time and is always mis appropriating class points and scores. Avoid at all costs!!!!!!!
Math has always been difficult for me, but I got an A in Malloy's class. Stats = great for non-math majors. Malloy can be goofy, but it's only because he likes to liven up class discussions. LOTS of extra credit + drops lowest test/quiz score. Allows cheat sheet (1 full page front&back) on tests.
Great teaching ability. Works with you and works out each problem.
THE BEST TEACHER EVER!!! I took his stats class during summer and it was awesome! It was the first class I took @ FJC and I loved it. He is very funny and makes class enjoyable. He explains everything and makes math fun. Loves stats which makes the class even more enjoyable and easy!! TAKE HIM!!!!!!
Mr. Malloy is the best math teacher ever. Its true that he uses his tests from the book but that doesn't make him lazy, it makes the student lazy if they dont want to do extra work. If you do the reviews in book you will get an A in the class. Take him he knows his stuff and is always smiling.
he is practically the smartest man i have ever metand the best math teacher i have ever had. if you go to class, do your homework, and study you will pass. if you ask he will totally help you. he always has a smile on his face, is super sexy, and would make the perfect husband! take him.
Mr. Malloy is a hilarious guy, he's the best math teacher I've had so far besides Debbie McQueen. He's so nice that he let me postpone my final exam three days when I couldn't make it for the final.
mr malloy is a great teacher! he explains things thoroughly & if you have any questions, he's more than willing to help you. i recommend mr malloy to anyone who does or does not like math.
I have to work to get good grades at math so I wasn't so sure about taking Malloy's class at first. He was a good teacher that explained the concepts so they were understandable and answered any questions you had. His lectures are clear even fun. Lots of extra credit opprotunities and you could use a page of notes for exams but I rarely used it.
Professor Malloy lecture very well, I took this class during summer with another chem class, and because Professor Malloy lecture too well I get an A for this course without read the text, I just listen/take note during class and do homework question. In addtion, I'm high school student, so if I can do it, so do you.
He's helpful and understanding. Hell, he makes math interesting for the non-math major.
mr. malloy is the best teacher ever.
He has a Very unique style and can bit a tad intimidating at first, but he is incredibly helpful and open to helping during his office hours. Plus he actually makes it fun to show up to math class. I'm not a fan of going to any class let alone math, but he
Prof. Malloy is the best teacer ever!He is always willing to help anyone interested in learning. If anyone had problems passing his class it is because they are lazy and unwilling to work. It's easy to blame someone else for your own failures. Prof. Mollo

Malloy is the best most helpful teacher ever!!! If you are willing to work and do what's expected of you he will hold up his end and do whatever he can to make sure you understand what's going on.
he was the bestest teacher. He helped me in geology and math. it was fun being in his class
PROF MALLOY IS GREAT. HE IS SUPER SMART AND VERY VERY HELPFUL. HE IS ONE OF THE BEST TEACHERS AT FULLERTON.
I had him for 141 and it wasn't too bad but for calculus he is horrible. He plays favorites and expects you to "know everything by now" so he assumes you get it. I DISCOURAGE people from taking him for calculus take Mr Buih instead or anyone but him!
Mr. Malloy rocks i don't think i have ever had so much fun in a class let alone a math class this guy is the coolest if you get a chance to take his class do it it is so worth it you will laugh your ass off
i tranfered from fjc to a uc and he was the only one that gave me a C. :(
I really don't like math, but Mr.Malloy made it understandable for me. If you do your homework, then you'll do good on the tests. One of the best math teachers I've had so far. I definately recommend him for math 100.
he is cool teacher
DO NOT TAKE HIM FOR CALC 150 OR IF HE DECIDES TO TEACH A HIGHER MATH LEVEL, DO NOT TAKE HIM. YES, HE'S FUN AND SILLY, BUT TEACHING-WISE... NOOO GOOD. ASK A QUESTION, AND HE'LL JUST LOOK SO DUMBFOUNDED. THAT'S JUST THE TRUTH
His statistics class is very difficult but he is actually a very good teacher. I learned a lot from his class and I dont even like math. I really recomend this teacher for everyone.
I thought this class was easy. Mr Malloy is a fun teacher, it helps to make the class go faster and be more intersting.
Great teacher. His secret: Maintains high student interest levels. Do the work, and he will tke the time to help you, and you will get the grade. (But don't ask him to do the work for you.) Great attitude. Best bald-headed prof at FC.
a fun guy but assigns a ridiculous amount of homework each class meeting- you end up worrying about finishing it instead of understanding it. not recommended.
What a disappointment. I was hoping for more, but he cannot teach at this level. He is a good high school teacher, but does not belong in college classes.
I like him. I'd take him again. He's awkwardly hot to look at ( reminds me of the guy on the smashing pumpkins lol ) , has a good sense of humor, and he loves to teach. He does a good job explaining the material in class so when you read it at home it makes more sense. Gives a lot LOT of homework though. Although I am taking a summer class.
wow all i have to say is this teacher is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO hott!!! i hope i can take another class with him soon!!!! i just show up to class to see the guy. definitely the hottest teacher at FJC!!!! take him if you can!!!!
Mr. Malloy is a great math teacher. This subject is very unclear to many, but he manages to bring clarity. He is a very helpful teacher, that does not tollerate being late (which is absolutly understandable). A+ teacher
Mr.Malloy is a great teacher!!! I took him this summer and the class was pretty easy but there was alot of homework and some of the homework can count as a quiz. So I recommend to do your homework right and study for the test and you willl be just fine. If any way possible take him!!!!!
Very disappointing! Malloy came out being a big WASTE OF TIME! I took him during the summer, so its pretty fast paced and loaded with work! DONT TAKE HIM IN THE SUMMER! Dont get your hopes up with this guy! Not unless you have a math obsession like him! And when you see your grade, dont get happy either, because it can go down! WAY DOWN!
Fairly easy class, but very helpful teacher. I would recommend Malloy because he is very willing to help if you don't understand the material. He has plenty of office hours. I actually wasted my time taking this class becuse FJC counselors screwed me over, but if I HAD to take this class I'd take Malloy. Do hw and show up and you'll ace the tests.
Dr. Malloy=organized teacher! Big on discipline-so you must come to class on time, and you must participate or else you lose points. After the routine, he's a great man with a sense of humor, and his lectures go step by step.Does alot of group work and buddy quizzes.Make sure to come to class everyday,on time, and do all of the homework-there's alot!
Scott is a very interesting man! Even though I already knew everything he was teaching, the refreshment was nice. GO TO CLASS and GO TO THE MATH LAB! Other than that the class was a breeze!
Fun guy, soooo much homework though. everynight atleast an hour of work. almost your whole grade is on homework and he uses the chapter reviews for tests... straight out of the book. memorize the answers!! go to the math lab
nice guy
His has a good sense of humor.... but just tooo much HW. And the quizes are straight out the book. BUDDY QUIZES...make sure u get a smart one...or els face the consequences
mr malloy defines cool, period. EASY POINTS TUESDAY!but seriously, a crapload of HW. Tests are ok..Curves Tests by highest grade. at least 10 quizes. makes funny faces. overall really nice guy. Teacher of the year a couple times.i got into a bar fight with malloy..i won. i smashed a bear bottle on head & you can still see the scar. i still passed
I just took math 203 with Mr.Malloy and he is a wonderful teacher. He makes math not scary. He will help you understand it any way he can. I would take him for any math class that he teaches. I worked hard for my C but it was a difficult class even though I enjoyed it :)
Great teacher. Did a GREAT job explaining things. **must do math lab** always go to the math lab to check hmwrk answers because it could be a quiz!! 1 test, some quizzes, & hmwrk is dropped. all tests (including final) are cumulative review. His hmwrk may be overwhelming but stick through it because it pays off. you won't get an easier teacher.
Extremely helpful! I had an injury and missed like a month of class and he emailed assignments to me! I passed!
It was a good class i guess. you just have to keep up with the work. there's a lot of homework and quizzes. project was easy. it wasn't too bad. i got a B. you just have to work for it. his test are mostly multiple choice. with some done by hand. page of notes for test, front and back. all test ****ulative.
I took him this summer and i wouldn't recommend it. He's a smart-ass and acts condascending anytime you ask him for help. He moves way too fast(even for summer). WAY too much hw.
Oh God, for the love of all things good - DON'T TAKE THIS HORRIBLE TEACHER!
Awesome, such a nerd! SO passionate about stats it's crazy. Half the class dropped, but just bc there's so much hw. Tests are ok if you study. Fair grader. HW not worth too much anyway. Fun project. I'm horrid at math and I got a B, but definitely worked for it! HOURS! Get a study group! Very helpfull and crazy. Chill to talk to- crazy smile:) lmao
Awesome teacher, but moves really fast. Not very helpful when asked questions. Plenty of extra credit just for making your homework look pretty. Also extra credit for scavenger hunts. Recommend him.
Keys to pass the class: 1. Do your homework. 2. Check your answers at the math lab, some homeworks are take home quizzes and graded (worth 1/5th of at test!). 3. Don't mess around in class, he will take points away. 4. Attend class daily 4 misses and he WILL drop you on the spot. 5. Tests are Cumulative review, study memorize.
He is extremly dorky, He makes math interesteting. he LOVES math, he gets all excited. You just need to do homework and go to the math lab. The tests re the cumilative review and those answers are on the back, so if you fail an exam your crazy. If you show ineterst things become easier. =] I love his class.<3
141 in summer was hard, but he made class fun (a bit too much HW, though). He loves math and makes it interesting. His personality is infectious, unless you don't like teachers who teach passionately. He was a catalyst for raising my math tolerance level. I recommend him if you think math class is dull; his are anything but.
I dread math, but Malloy made the class doable and fun. I couldn; I still can't believe I passed with a B, he was so helpful!!!
First of all, I have never been all that great at math. What helped me in Malloy's class was doing all of my homework and making sure that every answer was right. Sometimes he grades homeworks like quizes, better be safe than sorry. Also, his tests are the literal cummulative reviews STRAIGHT FROM THE BOOK!! he gives "buddy quizes" get sum1 smart!!
The nice thing about the exams and quizzes in this class is that the questions come straight from the book, which makes it a lot easier to study and score highly. However, the homework load is extremely heavy, and Mr. Malloy often checks to make sure every homework problem is correct. Definitely don't take him if you tend to slack off on homework!
malloy is a very sophisticated teacher and he uses the book so make sure you use it too he know what he's talking about and he is very useful on almost any subject also if you bring anything that would interest him he will give you extra credit for it and the more extra credit you the better cuz the quizzes can be tedious take him hes very goood
really helpful teacher. honestly he is a little creepy but i got past it. gives buddy quizes which is always good when u find someone smart.. his class is not to hard, he curves all the tests and quizes..
I have never met a teacher more passionate about his subject! He would say things like "Statistics changes lives!" Good teacher, a lot of hmwk, buddy quizes. Not easy so dont take if you plan on slacking off. You have to stay on top of things, study, and do the hmwk if you want to pull out a good grade in the class. Malloy makes it fun though
This class is difficult, its math after all. Do your homework and use colored pencils whenever possible for an extra point. He's a little creepy but nice. My test grades went down over the semester, even though I studied hard (i'm not a math person). You can make up for not being math inclined by doing the homework and final project.
Great teacher!!! Before this class I hated math. After taking Malloy's class I was more sure than ever that every math teacher I had in prior years was an idiot. He loves math, so it's kind of funny to see him get all happy like a kid talking about numbers. Ask questions, and do your homework. Very helpful, only (kinda) problem is LOTS of homework.
Had this guy in 2003 when he first transferred from Brea-Olinda HS. I don't think he's inherently bad, but he couldn't relate well to fellow adults. The most immature teacher I ever encountered at FJC and CSUF. Maybe he's changed, but my impression is that he's unfit to be teaching in a college classroom. He math expertise is/was questionable too.
Tons of homework, at first I was angry about the amount, but I came to realize it's a main reason I got the material being taught. He's very helpful when reviewing the hwk from the night before. The lectures are easy to follow. He gives an example of each kind of problem on the homework for that night. He lets you know the test ahead of time! HELPFUL!
He loves Statistics, no doubt! But he doesn't seem to enjoy teaching that much. Very easy class though. Projects are lots of works, but he grades super easy, almost everyone got 100% just for doing the works. One page of note allowed for tests, including final. Make sure to ask questions in class so you can earn an A in class participation.
Mr. Malloy was a great teacher. He's a pretty funny dude and he's very excited about math so he keeps the whole class interested in learning the material. He also gives a lot of extra credit.
People say that this man cannot teach higher math. I say that those people don't know what they're talking about. He's incredibly clear, his tests are only on what is taught, and I learned more from him than any past math teacher. In fact, the only reason I got a B+ in his Calc class (at 7AM, I might add) was from personal laziness. Give him a try.
He is funny. His test are hard but he gives a lot of extra credit. The class average on the exams were around 65% and may people dropped. Be sure to do the homework and you will do fine.
He no longer gives Extra credit :O. . and he gives ALOT of h.w. . . but he is a good teacher
By far the MOST homework I've EVER had for a class in my LIFE!! But Malloy's totally chill, very clear in his lectures, and was always willing to explain if you didn't understand anything. His passion for statistics was entertaining, and I totally recommend him! Not boring at all! :)
Scott Malloy is very upbeat, happy, and intelligent. Somehow he got me to understand things about algebra I have NEVER been able to understand. However, there is a TON of homework.. way too much to deal with on a full load. Regardless, he is one of the most fair graders I've seen, and drops SO many quizzes and tests that are low. Good teacher.
:) he is so fannnny!!!u will only pass if u try this class takes up a lot of time do well on the beginning of the class so that u can slack of at the end when it gets hard! i have an "A" take him. and LISTEN to him. he tells you what to study!i wont tell you where he gets his exams from.. you will just have to figure it out!
Excellent teacher. His lectures are funny, organized, and concise, makes difficult concepts crystal clear. He drops your lowest quiz scores. Lots of homework. Tests are challenging, but he tells you what to study. Don't take him if you slack on homework; do take him if you want to become a better, more-prepared math student.
He is extremely enthusiastic about what he does, and very good at explaining the topic, but you will definitely have to do your work in this class. BTW...Im selling the book (new)contact me at [email protected]
He is a good teacher and he gives a ton of homework but one thing these posts didn't mention was how he goes through his lectures extremely quickly. He skips over parts and expects you to analyze the text and figure it out. Most students commented on 2+ hours spent on homework each nigh with more than half based off the text rather than lecture. He
NOT a good teacher in my opinion. Doesnt explain problems or questions very well. LOTS of homework. His wierd personality made it very hard to learn.
Beware of this professor!! He assigns lots of homework...it would take me 2-4 hours per class to finish the assignments. he would consider some homework assignments "pop quizzes" and your homework had better be perfect or you will fail for the day. I would suggest only taking this guy if you're a math major.
Easiest class on earth. You do have to put in some time because of hmwk assignments and projects, but other than that his tests are really easy and he explains the material pretty well. He's always willing to help during office hours and typically likes the students that show up to office hours more.
He is a pretty good teacher; I did learn a lot from him then in High school that's for sure! He's approachable, and yes the only flaw with him is homework. the other comments are true about the homework. He also puts curves on tests, and you have poster project. During lectures,he puts up every type of problem on each section. Overall he's good.
He is very clear and gives yo great notes. You must attend to pass the tests. He is always fun to listen to. This is my second class I take with him and I enjoy his class every time.
OMG, I took professor Malloy for Fall 2010. I loved him, he's an amazing professor who really makes it fun and interesting. Not your same old boring math, he cracks jokes, goes over homework, and helps relate what you learn to useful stuff in life! AMAZING PROFESSOR!!!!!
He is extremely easy!!!! Tests come from the review of each chapter in the book. Take him and do the reviews, you will get A easily!!! I love him!!!
HATE this class. if youre someone who doesnt like busywork (especially in math) DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. he assigns TONS of homework, does not go over half the stuff which means YOU have to figure it out on your own. its awful. also, half the hw are "homework quizzes" and he grades them for points. hw should be for LEARNING, not points
DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY! HE NEEDS TO GO BACK TO HIGHSCHOOL. HE GIVES AN OUTRAGOUS AMOUNT OF HOMEWORK-MOST NOT RELEVANT FOR HIS EXAMS DO NOT TAKE runnnnnn
you will pass this class if you do all your hw and do good on his test. the test are straight from the cumulative review in the book.he quizzes you from the book and he also drops your lowest quiz and test, tells you the class before what you are going to get quizzed on. super easy and super fun. if you wanna learn and pass take him!
Mr. Malloy is an interesting teacher. He has taught me a lot. He has a really strong passion for math. He is willing to help you if you need assistant in his office during office hours. Do all the homework and attend class and you should be fine. His test are based on cummulative reviews and practice tests. Take him, he definitely is inspiring
i love malloy! favorite math class ever. tests are easy as long as you do all your homework and chapter review your good. Even the final wasn't too bad he's very fair. Lot's of homework though if you don't do work don't take this class!
Mr. Malloy is probably the best teacher I have ever had. He is a nice guy and makes the class really interesting and fun. The course is extremely easy if you go to class and pay attention, do the homework, and study for a couple of hours for the tests. All the tests are curved and he lets you use notes on 2 of them. I highly recommend him!
Professor Malloy is a very good teacher. A bit odd, but really good at teaching statistics. His exams are extremely detailed but as long as you take good notes, and do the homework, you should be fine.
He is the greatest teacher i've ever had in my Math classes.Even though he gives a lot of hw,its not impossible to pass the class with a decent grade. Just do the hw and follow his direction n ull definately achive the highest. Hes is the best for calculus 150A. trust me you won't regreat.
AWESOME teacher!!! First impression is that he is an A-hole, couldn't be further from the truth. He truely cares that you succeed in his class & in life!! Very easy to understand. Very helpful. Always availableat his office, even if its not durig office hours. No nonsense guy, tho. If you don't put in the effort, he won't pass you out of compassion
Going into the class I was very scared of Geometry. Malloy has a way to make it seem so easy & understandable. He does give a lot of homework. First week he appears to be rude and hard, but thats just to weed out the ppl not serious about his class. He's actually very friendly & very approachable. Honestly, he's the best teaacher I've ever had!!!!!
RUN FOR THE HILLS!!! He's not a bad guy its just that he gives waaaaay too much homework. He does not spend enough time going over the material, he just expects you to live in the math lab and have them help you on every question you have. THIS GUY DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO TEACH... TRUST ME!!!
going into the class i hate math, but malloy is a fun teacher!he makes math not so boring, asks questions raise your hand it will help you in the end,ask for help in the lab& to malloy he is very helpful great teacher.if you're an ass to him he will be one back just like any other human, loved malloy!take him
I petitioned & he added EVERYONE in the room. Smart, cause the 1st couple weeks he gives lots of hw to weed out the lazy ppl. It's work, but worth it. Gives less hw near end of sem. GREAT prof. Learned a lot. Really wants you to succeed, put in the effort and you'll pass. And gives TONS of pts for E.C. @end of semester. Made my grade from C to a B.
His class is tough if Math isnt your strong point. The work is worth it though and if you can be one of the "survivors" you will really feel like you accomplished something. I found him to be helpful and he really did change my attitude about math. Take him as long as you are willing to put in the work.
DO NOT TAKE HIM IF MATH IS NOT YOUR SUBJECT. he jumps right into the material and expects you already know it. SUPER creepy and weird. tons of homework and absolutely no cell phones in class
Malloy is a great teacher. He assigns a lot of homework, which can be daunting, however, if one wants to understand math, then he or she must practice, it's just par for the course. He drops the lowest sores and gives extra credit, which makes his class desirable if tend to be flakey. Doing well in this class is as easy as 123. eh.
best math teacher on campus. easy A IF YOU DO THE WORK, dont be lazy put some time and effort if your confused ask him he helps you understand! his office is cool most people fail math 40 bcuz they dont study, idiots. math is just counting its easy. study. work hard for the grade you want. do the chapter reviews. malloy your awesome!
Mr. Malloy is the best math teacher I've ever had. Strict, but fair. He has alot of upbeat energy that balances out his highly structured style. He's a good guy and he obviously cares. This class requires some hard work, but it will blow your mind if you stick with it. Lots of opportunities for extra credit. If you need to take Math 40, take Malloy.
Malloy was a great teacher! His humor was a little dry, but hilarious. It is important to stay on track in his class, don't slack and fall behind. Also, go see him during his office hours. He is very fair but not easy. You will learn a lot, but like most math teachers he moves through material quickly so it is up to you to stay on top of it!
Calculus I class, requires tons of homework, forces you to be proficient. Tests are made from chapter exams. Teaches well, but isn't too helpful. Favors the females in the class. Has an arrogance to his personality, acts as if he has a chip on his shoulder. If you can deal with personality, overall, decent math teacher.
Malloy is very smart! He is very funny and has a great personality! His class was not easy and there was tons of homework, but he was always available to meet during office hours. He really is a great teacher!
i took him for statistics in summer of 2010. it was from 10:40-2:30, or something, everyday. he gave 5-6 written pages of homework everday. his tests come from randomly selected homework questions. his quizzes are randomly selected homework questions. he also gave group quizzes and allowed us to use formula notes for tests.
I'm almost done with summer semester, but I have to say: Professor Malloy is ONE of the best teachers out there. He's really helpful, and cares so much about his students' and for them succeeding in school. BE PREPARED to do a lot of hw (NO JOKE), and put in time to devote to this class. A LOT OF HOMEWORK! Good luck!
Lots of homework... LOTS. If you're not ready for 2-3 hours a night, good luck. Material itself wasn't very difficult. You take most of your quizzes with a buddy, which was nice (provided your buddy kept up). Final wasn't bad; very straight-forward and relatively easy. Plenty of extra credit opportunities to pad your grade. LOTS OF HOMEWORK.
honestly everytime i went to class and he does this stupid duck face i wanted to cry.. he gives buddy quizes all the time grades homework as a test half the time and doesnt curve anything!! does not help at all with the sections makes you think you should know it already or he treats you like an idiot.. do not take him!!!
Great Proffessor! I had an A throughout the semester but started procastinating. All his exams including the final were the same test from the book! Just do the homework and re do the test inside the book and you'll get an easy A. There is a curve for every test. and he drops a lot of quizzes, homework and one exam. Yes homework is assigned daily
great professor.
It was too hard and it does get harder through the weeks. You really got to know how to use your graphing calculator. He gives out a lot of hw. quizzes like every other day, exams every other week. He does drops your lowest test score and lowest quizzes in the end. You want to be challenged take him.
This guy is so legit. I learned so much from his class. Malloy4prez!
mr.malloy is a good teacher. if your not good in math he will help you. just go to the math lab and you'll do well in all his exams. his test are similar from the the book. to pass his class you must study from the book. Some times in his test he give popup vocab make sure you know those. he gives in class buddy quiz.
Honestly, this class can be tough...if you don't study or do the work! Malloy wants everyone to succeed he's aways available&more than willing to answer your questions. You always have homework don't get lazy. Tests are straight from the book&he constantly drops hints on what to study. Going to miss Malloy and his sense of humor, and love 4 math
You can easily pass the class if you turn in your homework daily and pass your buddy quizes he gives out. He is overall a great instructor. The class is hard, but if you put your effort in it and study you will pass with a better grade than me. Good Luck!
Great teacher Malloy prepares you for the higher Math, really knows his math well.
what a great teacher! he really knows what he is teaching and his class was pretty fun! he can be kind of sarcastic at times but that's what made him fun! do all of your homework and go to the math lab and you should be able to pass
Took Prof. Malloy for 40 & 120. 120 (stats) was NOT an easy course. You MUST do all the work. If you do all the work, you will get an A. He is humorous and never dry. Makes taking a math class fun. The work load is intense, tho, and he lets you know that up front. Very approachable, encouraging, & helpful. Great teacher!
This class is easy if you just do all your homework and always go to the math lab to check your answers. Test are easy as well just study the study guides in the book and you will be fine because exams are directly from the book.
a lot of homework but if you do it all easy A. Also homework's are you quizzes so check your work! attend the math lab.
Mr Malloy is a very good professor. Lots of homework, but it prepares u for 150B. Exams are easy. If u do all the review problems even and odd then u should be fine. I got an A in this class and also in 150B. Don't be scared to take him cuz of hw, but it pays u for the next class. Take him!!!
Must do math hw. It's time consuming. Entertaining guy. Makes topic interesting. Must participate every day or else you lose participation points. Buddy Quizzes are a large part of the class. Exams are curved. Doesn't offer extra credit. Makes math understandable. You need a graphing calculator throughout the class.I do recommend this professor.
Malloy was pretty awesome. I took him in the summer and man did that go by fast. Was very clear and helpful though. Did not give you direct answers but helped you understand the problems. Mandatory HW that, if you followed, made the class much easier. Gave one project that wasn't too hard. Overall, a great teacher, highly recommend.
Mr Malloy is a good teacher. Take the homework seriously! They really make a difference in your overall grade because he grades them as 20 point quiz almost all the time! If you get 20 s on the quiz and 75 average on exams you can get an A because of the quiz! They can make or break you and he counts 10 and drops the 4 low quiz!
Mr.Malloy is a good professor, but you do have to study if you want to pass the class. The homework load is not too bad. I do recommend taking him if you can.
One of my all time favorite professors. He is reasonable no excuse not to pass his exams and he give you on your toes. love him!!!
Great teacher! Do yourself a favor and take him!
He's fun and approachable, very interactive with his students. The workloads are unnecessarily too much since he apparently only checks completion instead of accuracy of your homework which you spend at least 3 to 4 hours on it. The final is cumulative and worth a lot of points so make sure you study for the practice final he gives you.
He is approachable and interactive with students. He drops students after their 3rd absence so make sure to attend class. The final is worth a lot but he gives you a practice final which pretty much covers all the concepts you need to know for the final. The workloads are ridiculous so don't take him if you have 4 other classes to take care of.
He is so energetic to teach the future teachers new methods in thinking strategies and is one of the most helpful math professors I've taken. Do not be fooled by the title of the course, it is a difficult course! But Malloy is very helpful and easy to pay attention to ;)
if u wanna learn don't take him. he barely teaches u basically end up teaching urself, this class is tough.
There are 4 tests and a final. He drops the lowest test (not including final) and he has homework grades. He also likes to give buddy quizzes in class on random days. HW and quizzes are a HUGE part of your grade. He does drop some HW's. Lectures are long and you never get out early. If you put work in and study you can pass. Get a study group!
I would not recommend him period especially if you find math difficult he will fail you with a smile.
Mr. Malloy was probably the best math teacher I ever had. He was so helpful and although he makes you work very hard for your grade, you'll thank him. Class never gets out early, he loves pop quizzes and he loves to scare you into studying.
he gives homework which counts for points, pop quizzes are huge, and he cares if you attend class. You need to put lots of work in and form a study group. He does drop your lowest test and some missed homework which is nice.
Malloy is the holy grail of Statistics professors at Fullerton College. He makes the subject very easy to understand as long as you keep up with the readings. He does give pop quizzes frequently (at least once a week), but they are problems from previous homework assignments. Do yourself a favor and take his class if you need to take Statistics.
Extremely organized-- homework is always graded and passed back the next class. Homework is also always written on the board at the beginning of the class-- with reminders of upcoming tests. He's into "study groups" so get to know your classmates. Kind of intimidating, but he's a really good teacher as long as you keep up with your work.
one of the most difficult classes I've taken but malloy tries to make it understandable. gives lots of homework quizzes and buddy quizzes but they benefit you in the end. make sure to put in the effort on your own outside of class to understand the material, and make study groups bc it is a difficult class. STUDY!!!!!!
What an awesome teacher! Professor Malloy is the best math teacher I've had. I really recommend taking him. He loves to help students and will explain the material again if students do not understand. He gives extra credit like crazy and loves when students participate in class. Looking for a great teacher for math?Professor Malloy is your guy!
NEVER take this guy over the summer. I swear, you will get buried alive in at least 4-5 sections of HW every night. Seriously. Buddy quizzes almost everyday. Tests are difficult. I ended up having to drop his class, but I still think Malloy is the best at stats when it comes to teaching. If you want to learn, take him. Otherwise, I would avoid.
I took Malloy for hybrid Statistics HW is online assigned every week along with a chapter quiz 4 exams are in class but based on the homework or his lecture chapter reviews in class you must attend to pass the material is hard to understand he drops lowest exam and 3 lowest quiz scores grades exams on curve (highest score)
I took the hybrid class against everyone warning me not to. Because you are only in the class once a week it creates more work to do on your own time. If you do not have time to sit down at the computer for at least 3-4 hours every week don't take this class. It isn't difficult if you put the work in. The textbook is online; no way to buy it cheap.
He's a hard teacher. He gives a lot of h.w. and sucks at explaining the class material.
STAY AWAY FROM HYBRID U WILL REGRET! HALF THE CLASS DROPPED FIRST 2 WEEKS BECAUSE OF HIS ATTITUDE, AMOUNT OF ONLINE HOMEWORK, & ESP LACK OF TEACHING/SUPPORT FOR EVERYTHING. I SOUGHT HELP FROM SOMEONE WHO COMPLETED & PASSED STATS ABOUT THIS COURSE & THEY EVEN SAID IT WAS RIDICULOUS & MORE THAN UNIVERSITY STANDARDS. I REGRET TAKING HIS CLASS! DON'T!
Mr. Malloy is good in explaining the material, other than that he treat his students like slaves. He also encourage his students to drop his class as soon as possible. And the best part is he admit that he is a bad teacher. AVOID HIM !!!!!!!!!
Hybrid classes often are linked to large amounts of homework. This guy, though. He just piles it on. He is the kind of teacher who expects that his class is the only thing that his students ever do with their lives, and he grades HARD on his exams, taking off large amounts of valuable points if you forget just to label anything. SO LABEL EVERYTHING
He really makes you work for your grade, if anyone needs a brand new textbook and access code you can purchase it from me! I didn't need to use mine.
It is absurd to look at some of these comments. Please, do not base your decision off of what you read here. It is true that the class can be difficult at times but reality is that YOU are a college student. You should expect to be challenged! His grading scale structure is made so that you can succeed (A) while still gaining knowledge.
I took Professor Scott Malloy in the summer. The most important thing to know if you do take him over summer is: 6 hours of homework, buddy quizzes everyday, a project/presentation, 3 exams. He's a great professor just gives weird smiles. Make a good friend or you will be depressed on so much homework.
Malloy almost screwed me over at the end of the semester and a month from the end of the semester with a passing grade, I almost had to retake the class because he decided to drop me after an absence. No email or warning. And of course, I was dropped the day before the last day to drop (or re-add apparently). Gave me a hard time getting back in.
Mine was a hybrid so it was half online. He rushed the lectures which was understandable because we only met once a week. Overall, he was a good teacher and I did well because I had previously taken Statistics. I would not recommend a hybrid if its your first stats class
He gives a lot of homework, and I do not recommend him if you are a DSS student. He gave so much homework that I did not remember anything I learned in his class.
To me, he was one of the best professors. He explains the material very well and he does give a lot of homework. He is available before and after class, so if you don't understand the material you should go during his office hours. He likes it when students go during his office hours. He curves the test.
Take Prof. Malloy, as he is amazing. This class is hard, very hard. Visited his office hour every single week, had 3 tutors, and spend 40hr/week on homeworks, for me was about 14 pages of writing of homework for each clas. Learned a lot. Don't take too many units with this class and you will get A. Just loved the professor, very helpful and caring.
Professor Malloy is honestly one of my favorite instructors I have ever had. Because of his class, I now view the world more differently in a more logical, critical, point-of-view. He has forever changed the way how I interpreted data in a sensible way. If you're a student that even remotely enjoys numbers, then you will for-sure love his class.
Prof. Malloy is a great guy. He assigns a lot of HW so be prepared to spend several hours (I spent 4-6) per week on top of general studying but the practice helps to consolidate what he goes over in class. 1 final, 4 exams (drops 1), and a mix of buddy quizzes+hw quizzes. He curves exams off the highest grade. Hard course, but you'll learn a lot.
He is such a tough teacher but more because the course was half onlie so he would jam a week's worth of lecture in an hr. get ready to spend about 6 hrs of hw a WEEK! Gosh I had anxiety every time I would sit in the computer doing hw. He is a cool guy but the class is pretty hard so if you take him PAY ATTENTION!!
Professor Malloy has good intentions but this class was difficult. There is tons of homework with no regard to other classes and his teaching style is one in which you must figure things out on your own. Do not recommend.
Thought class was straightforward. Really try to understand material. Most people had a hard time because they failed to understand the subject conceptually. Especially towards the end of the course. The whole concept of p/z/t tests is really the same but student fail to grasp the concept of it. Homework is given everyday, but it is very doable
This professor is AMAZING! I am terrible at math and am always afraid of taking math classes. Malloy said in the beginning this is like reading comprehension course with added math. Honestly, he is right. Pay attention, take notes, ask questions. Homework is there for a reason. Always bring your book and don't forget your calculator!
Great professor who makes the class easy to understand. If you pay attention it'll be easy to pass. He has a strange personality which mixes sarcasm and enthusiasm. Stats honors class, most of your quizzes will be hw quizzes and he counts only the top 10. Drops 1 test, and lots of extra credit, just talk with him, he enjoys getting to know you.
Malloy is such a good teacher! I accidentally enrolled into his class instead of another professor and I'm so grateful! Tests can be tough but I was able to get A's on the majority of them. There's tons of buddy quizzes and homework everyday so be prepared for that. He lets you use a calculator so I definitely recommend him! he's very friendly
I had taken statistics once before with a different teacher and received an F. With Professor Malloy, I received an A. This isn't because he's an easy grader, or gives extra credit, or anything like that, it was mostly because he makes the material so much easier to understand than my previous "average" professor. I would love to take him again.
I took his hybrid class for Stats and it was fairly easy for me. However, hybrid classes aren't for everyone so that's all up you whether or not you want to take his course. Doing the homework was what got me through the class. It's really important to do the homework or else you will not understand the material. The first 2 tests are easy.
He is an awful teacher. He is extremely rude because when I would go up to talk to him and ask him a question he would ignore me. I would raise my hand to ask him a question and he would just look past me and move on. He gives out buddy quizzes, but they are worthless becuase we all fail. Does not teach well at ALL! I would not recommend him.
I feel depressed in his classroom. I wouldve appreciatedmore if he actually taught more than 1/4 of the material that was actually on the homework. The Tests are Hard and if you try asking for help get prepared to receive a vague answer. In all honesty this Professor was the worst Ive ever taken. I had no choice but to take his class. HORRIBLE!!!
Great professor, lectures help you with homework so always show up. Buddy quizzes are difficult but he offers time out of class to help when you need it.
I took his Hybrid class, and it was pretty challenging. A lot of the homework is online and he teaches at a fast pace. If you want to succeed in his class, you must pay attention and keep up with the homework since a good percentage of your grade in his class is based on your homework assignments and exams.
Lots of homework but the tests are just like the homework. Challenging class but lots of extra credit chances. Project at the end was very easy but didnt get much direction for it.
I took Professor Malloy for stats120, which was perhaps one of the most challenging courses Ive ever taken, however, Malloy helped me understand the material a lot better. Hes tough but hes also fair. Make sure to do your best on the homework! Give 100% and youll pass this class.
I took Stats for SUMMER so this many not apply to any other semester. For this summer class, there was an average of 3-4hrs if homework every night. We went through a chapter a day, so if you dont pay attention youre gonna get left behind. His grading scale is super easy, and hes a real nice guy. Just be prepared to work for you grade.
If yall wanna pass you will
Yet another math teacher who teaches like everyone in the class is a math whiz. He doesnt answer everyones questions. Every homework is counted as a quiz grade & there is little direction on the assignments including the project. He is the only option at Fullerton college. I wouldnt take him again. He can be funny but the class is stressful.
If you put in the work YOU WILL PASS! Stats is not an easy subject, so you should not expect an easy A. If you dont show up to class you will not pass all notes are hand written by him on the board w/ examples. He's a funny guy and really knows how to explain the concepts. Doing the homework will help you pass all exams!
He was an alright professor but demands you to do a lot of study more and do your homework correctly as well. Exams are not easy! No matter what you have to be in class every time. Unless you love studying, this is the class for you.
I understand that a review based on two weeks of experience is useless to a lot of people, but hear me out. The very first day of class somebody asks about ebooks, and he gives a lecture on how he will not allow students to use it because it hurts publishers. The book cost? 287$. I have an ebook and am printing everything, but this stance is sad.
He's a fantastic professor IF you put the effort in. If you don't put the effort in, he won't either. You CAN'T miss any classes. I promise you'll regret it if you do. But if you go to math lab and ask questions in class you'll probably pass. Also, the final is SO heavily weighted. I went in with a B and probably won't pass, so make sure you study.
Started with a solid C on the first day and jumped to A since the final was extremely curved. He does this routine where he makes some homework assignments a quiz, so its crucial that you double check your work and that you get help to study otherwise you wont pass. Sometimes he let us use notes for test, but the tests were still heavy anyways.
This was the hardest class I ever have taken, I actually shred tears for barely passing. Don't take this class if math isn't your strong point unless you're a math genius or major. Your homework is graded as quizzes and has to be perfect if you care about your grade and buddy quizzes are timed. And he plays favorites, participation points limited.
Stats is a hard class, regardless of professor. He knows material very well and if you really try he'll help you out a lot. A lot of people don't study hard but this class needs extra effort to pass. He curves tests a lot and drops lowest quizzes, and if you have questions go to office hours. He really helps to those that reach out.
I did not pass math 120 my first time so I decided to take Mr Malloy for my second time and he's great! I would recommend taking him to anyone who isnt a math fan and struggles. Theres lots of homework but it does help for exams.
Malloy is overall pretty decent. Do your homework. There is one homework assignment per class period. Study. He drops your lowest test grade, 4 lowest homework grades, and I believe two quizzes-- which is helpful. The main reason I gave him a lower rate is that he tends to be extremely condescending, and flat out rude at times. Not my cup of tea.
Scott Malloy was one of my favorite professors at Fullerton college. Although math 203 isn't what you may think easy elementary work. NO, It's a tough class, but I promise you will pass if you visit his office hours for extra help. ALL Homework is in the textbook !! He is a genuine person and he will help you succeed!
I am maybe the worst math student I know but Malloy's lectures were so clear and comprehendable, I actually felt like I knew what was going on. It's a hard class and he isn't an easy professor, but he is extremely fair. When you ask him questions, make sure you're specific because sometimes he can give a trite answer. Be prepared to work!
Professor Malloy is an amazing professor. His lessons were clear and easy to understand. The class itself is very easy if you participate and listen to what he is saying. I suck at math but this class was extremely easy if you just pay attention and ask questions!! Do your HW, go to class, put in effort, and it will be an easy A.
I am horrendous at math, however Professor Malloy made statistics very easy to understand. The biggest downside is that there was a lot of homework-- and I mean a LOT. The upside is that if you actually attend classes and do the homework, then the exams should be easy. Good teacher overall, I'd take him during a 12-16 week class if possible.
I took his class when we transitioned online due to COVID in the spring. He is very blunt and kinda weird (but in a good way). But, he was SO good at explaining math. I failed Alg 2 in high school, but Prof Malloy was able to explain it so that even I could understand it. As long as you do your homework and make an effort, you will be fine!
I had to work my tail off for this A. I'm not a math major or a math whiz. I took this class during Fall 2020, so it was asynchronous+online. I had to teach myself out of the textbook, get the hang of the quizzes and tests (which are hard) on my own. It was stressful. Went to office hours every week and asked lots of q's. Hard but not impossible.
Pros: Great teacher, phenomenal at explaining math, pretty nice and tests are straightforward. // Cons: Lots and lots of homework, decent amount of quizzes and can make awkward jokes at times. // If you want to really understand the material though, I recommend Malloy's class over most others.
This professor has the best teaching style, especially for students who struggle with math to begin with. There are a lot of assignments but you realize how important they are to help you succeed and do well on exams. Put in the work and you will get an A.
Professor Malloy has an engaging teaching style that really helps students struggling with math. Expect a lot of work, but the assignments are crucial for doing well on exams. Unstuckstudy was a game-changer for my study prep.
