Dr. Massey is TOO hot for words!! Homework was ok tests were ok but Dr. Massey is HHHOOOTTT!!!
A very good professor. Has a good sense of humor, and dead sexy. Although, if you get a 89.5% for a final grade he will give you a B.
Hot? Sorry but if you call a pear shaped nerd hot, well okay...class would have been better had it been a little more structured. Seemed like I was in high school all over again. People talking and laughing during lectures really made it difficult to pay attention. Don't waste your money if you weren't a social butterfly in high school.

He is a good teacher, but some of the examples he moves too fast on.
This guy is the easiest Chem prof I've seen. He gives you a homework packet due the day of the test. Test questions come directly from his class lectures and the homework packets. And they are multiple choice tests. If you have to take CHM 151 and/or 152, and your grade matters, take it from this guy.
Boring. Too easy that it's deceptively hard. I've had better. Packets don't really help. Rarely find him in his office. Plays favorites.
He is a good teacher. I've never took chemistry before and I was really worried how can I handle the course but he made it an easy and a fun class for me. Make get help from LSC tutors. It will work out for you pretty good.
the lab is an easy grade but not much was learned here.
He is the best Gen Chem teacher in the valley. You learn a lot and he is very straightforward. He is not like Dr. Bedgood at ASU whose teaches the material in a straightforward manner and then asks tricky questions with material that was never discussed in class. The people who are criticizing him are those who felt he was too easy. Whatever!
alot of work , but good
He was probably one of the best teachers I've ever had. Good lectures, very helpful, He does not let any one down...
ok but not great. kinda boring and he really does not inspire any interest.
he is the best teacher i'v ever have
i think professor massey was pretty cool.. completely straight forward. but helpful. let us take retests whenever we were ready
The best teacher I have ever had
I took the lab for CHM152 with Dr. Massey. He was really good at explaining the labs and did not give us a final exam. Although the labs are supposed to be three hours long, the longest class was two hours, but most of them were closer to an hour or an hour and a half. I highly reccommend taking Dr. Massey!
Dr. Massey is a best teacher I ever had. He teach very well. He likes his job. Take with him. your going to like Chemistry. He make you to be interested about Chemistry.I Like him a lot.
best teacher! he knows his material. the tests are exactly like the study guides(( SUPER EASY )) just make sure you look at your notes and the study guide and you'll be fine!
I was nervous about taking this class considering I hadn't taken it in High school, but he broke down the matierial well ONLY IF YOU ATTEND CLASS & WRITE NOTES WELL. I did good, but the lab was more difficult with the computer labs. Thats what hurt my lab grade. My Lecture grade was good though. He's GREAT I recommend him definitely!
very cool. great lecture. take good notes and you will be fine.
This guy is the best instructor one can ever have for chemistry!! His homework sets reflect what will be on the test. Take good notes in class and you should be able to ace this class! Btw, he does write most of what he says on the board so you can copy it down. He has a way of making chemistry a little easier for those of us who dont get it.
Interesting fundemental/General Chemistry class. Love his lectures. Learned alot. Nice guy, grades are based on combination of homework and test scores.
I felt that his tests accurately reflected how much I've learned. My class was huge and his office hours were limited, so his availability was slim to none for help. All in all.. great lecture, great tests, and I learned a lot from him. I'd definitely take him again. Not an easy A if you have no background in chem, but I learned a lot!
Dr. Massey is very personable and kind. However, his lectures and homework often do not match what appears on his tests and as a result the class as a whole was struggling. He tends to not explain key concepts in detail and goes a bit too fast. His time is limited. He does give opportunity for extra credit to help those that struggle.
Very helpful, if he was busy helping other students, I found the tutoring office very helful/useful.
Overall: a good class. Total points for the class are 550. 200 for 4 regular exams, 200 for 2 comprehensive exams, 150 for six sets of H/W. This means that if you don't do H/W, the highest you can get is a C-. Read the material, TAKE NOTES in class. He is a nice person, and funny. H/W is turned in when you take the test. Simple. Good luck!!
Massey is an awesome teacher. His labs are crazy easy. He gives you notes on the board. He doesn't touch the textbook (for your reference only). He also gives homework packets that are 25 points (and puts the answer key in his office door for you to check your answers). Very good teacher. Definitely recommend him over Dr. Lalko!
Great teacher, I would have never passed without taking Dr.Massey. He is for sure the most caring. He truely wants his class to succeed!
I would highly recommend Dr. Massey. His sarcasm and humor keep things interesting. He also doesn't rely on the book and has extensive chemistry knowledge. I would take him for a higher chemistry if I was given the choice.
Doctor Massey is very much a professional. He has vast knowledge and very courteous of his students. If you cannot get through one of his classes, the problem lies with you. I am looking forward to high level Chem classes with this Professor.
I would give a 2.5 for easiness if I could. This is not an easy class! Unless chem/math are your thing, to get an A you will need to work very hard. I had to meet with tutors and a study group we formed prior to every exam. Extra credit is what saved me. Go to class, listen, study a lot and you'll do well.
The tests are nothing like the handout. Dr. Masey skips lot of topics from the text so following the text doesn't help.
Dr. Massey has a laid-back personality but is an effective teacher. He wants everyone in his class to get an A, but you still have to work. If you do the homework AND understand it, you will do fine on the exams. This is a very hard weed-out class, so you must work hard too. The textbook is not needed - just take good notes. The lab is an easy A.
I had Massey for CHM 152 and loved it. Tests are off of the homework and the extra credit is great. If you take good notes you will not need the text book. He is helpful when you have questions.
Great professor! He's so easy to understand, he knows what he's talking about, his notes are simple and easy. He's always open to have you in his office and he'll basically give you answers so long as he sees you tried. Do the hw-test are just like them. Attendance not mandatory but that's where he goes over everything. Easy A!
Massey is a tough lab grader. Do not write your lab the day it is due, make sure to edit it. Learn what he wants as soon as possible and stick to it. He is very helpful in lab though and if you need help with the writeup he is willing to point you in the right direction.
This class was such a breeze. I had him for lecture and lab. Lab, you do have to show up to get points. Lecture, well, I never showed up and made hundreds or over a hundred on every single exam. He teaches and uses examples straight from the book. His tests aren't multiple choice so it's show your work or get not credit but other than that, EASY!!
Dr. Massey went above and beyond what he had to to help his students succeed.
Dr. Massey is a good instructor. His lectures cover the test material, and he explains things clearly and will inject humor in the class. The book is not necessary if you do the homework handout and supplement it with online explanations and quizzing. Getting an A will require work on your part though; Slackers beware.
Massey is such a great instructor. He explains everything very well and answers questions thoroughly. Very interesting class and his humor makes it fun. Homework is not complicated and very similar to the tests. Offers additional help and extra credit. I always look forward to his class!
Massey is a good one. Chemistry can be a tough subject for some people and he is a good teacher to take if you are one of those people. He's willing to help outside of class. He's funny, kinda cute too!
Very succinct and methodical teacher. Addresses questions very well and assigns homework that prepares you very well for exams. Highly recommended.
His lectures only included relevant information, and the homework he assigns is key to acing the tests. However, I have never taken chemistry which made it difficult to keep up with the lectures. I passed with an A+ by reviewing the homework, notes, and book over and over again until I fully understood all of the concepts.
Best Chemistry Professor! Dr Massey is very thorough with his lectures and labs. Taking the course over the summer session was tough, but he was always available for help. Highly recommended!
Friendly, crystal clear, a good class to take over the summer. The homework is extremely similar to exams, that aspect right there made this class 10x easier.
I would not call this an easy class by any means. He does not explain much or go over the homework he assigns. Its all due on the day of the test so it's all on you to put in the effort and read the book every night.
He is a great professor. He is clear and very helpful if you need help he is available in his office and takes the time to help you understand it. Ne is the BEST Chm. teacher and head of the department. Also gives you extra credit that will help you. He just was awesome.
He is the BEST Professor in Chemistry... he is also the head of the Chemistry department. You have to study your notes and homework he asighns. Stick with the class and you will pass.
Great Teacher! Took for both CHM 151 and 152. Easy way to ensure success in class is to do the homework, and know how you did the homework... Tests are very similar to the homework. No surprises. Dr. Massey is a wonderful teacher! DO NOT TAKE LYNN LALKO.
I have no idea where all of these amazing reviews are coming from. Massey is an awful teacher. Yes, he is very nice, but his teaching technique could use some help. He's all over the place, forgets to mention key points and doesn't offer extra credit. Going to the tutor was the only way I understood the material. No need for the book. Ask for help!
He got a good grade because of his tests are easy but in lecture you will learn nothing. He skipped a lot of steps. You will meet trouble in LAB and next Chemistry class. He is one the worse teacher that I have ever had.
Dr. Massey is one of the best professors that I have met on campus. He cares about his students and will go above and beyond to help you. For Chem 151-152, Dr. Massey had meetings outside his office with students, to help before tests. I really enjoyed his teaching style. Dr. Massey made Chemistry interesting!
Took this class over summer session. Imagine trying to take a sip of water from a fire hose. His summer class is fast paced! There were several times I thought I wouldn't pass. Take good notes and do the homework packet he gives you. The homework is very similar to the test.
He teaches in a way that is very easy to learn from. He offers office hours to any of his students. And as long as you understand the homework packets he hands out, you will do well on his tests. Oh p.s. I'm almost done with the semester and have opened the "mandatory" book once.
Dr. Massey is such a teacher. I had Dr. Lalko for 151 and I absolutes hated the entire semester. Dr. Massey makes notes for his lectures and does problems on the board with us and defines certain aspects of chemistry. He hands out homework packets that very much like the tests. He's always in his office when he says he will be and he really cares!!
WOW! What a fantastic teacher! Don't waste your money on the textbook his lectures are great and are all you need to do well in the class. His homework packets prepare you for the test's. If u insist on having a textbook just buy the 9th editions its the same book but way cheaper he doesn't assign any work out of the text.
He is a very clear and helpful teacher, but do not expect this class to be easy. Chemistry in itself is pretty hard. He does assign mandatory HW guides that actually help you out A LOT when doing the test. STUDY and attend lectures. Use the text as reference, but it's really not used.
Dont waste your time with any over gen chem teacher. He sparked my love for chemistry by making an intimidating subject a piece of cake! He has AWESOME lectures. He assigns a hmwk packet due the day of the test, 151 test- multiple choice 152- fill in/math. lab wksts are due before leaving lab. Inspiring, brilliant man! Highly recommend his class
Dr. Massey does everything in his power to help you. He hosts reviews a day or two before tests where he will answer anything and typically gives most answers to homework. The homework is mandatory but like I said, he normally gives the answers and resembles the test. He makes it easy to succeed. Best chemistry prof out there hands down.
Dr. Massey is easily the best professor I have had in my college career. Took his 151 lab in the fall of 2014, 152 lecture and lab the following semester. He gives you his own notes. There's a seamless transition of information from instructor to student. He is always there for his students, and cares about their success. Don't be afraid to ask ?'s
Great professor, most of the grades are off of tests so if that's not your thing it may be tough. All the homework is due before the test and he's really good at explaining the material.
Very knowledgable in his subject, his class is very structured and easy to follow. Grades solely on homework and tests and never offered extra credit. Attendance is not mandatory but he covers a lot of material in every class so you miss out on a lot when absent.
I took CHM151 with Massey over the summer. It was an accelerated class so obviously it was more time consuming and required A LOT of studying. HIs homework packets and tests were all multiple choice so that made it a lot easier. Don't bother buying the textbook, I didn't even open it, just read Chemistry for dummies. Massey is a great professor
Massey is a wonderful person and professor. He is very easygoing and helps the students a lot through his office hours. His lectures are a pleasure to attend and he has specific notes and homework packets, so the exams do not carry surprises whatsoever. I did not even have to use the textbook during the whole semester. Take him! Amazing professor!!
First time taking chemistry and I loved it! Only class I didn't stress about all semester. Great guy, awesome teacher. Take lots of notes and you'll have all the info you need for hw/studying for exams. Ask questions and he will go over it with you. I wish he was teaching 151 this semester I would definitely take his class again!
Dr. Scott Massey is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He always goes above and beyond, and has brought in some of his own personal replicas of famous historical chemistry experiments, such as the first cathode ray tube. He is brilliant and has a profound comprehension of the subject. Every time I asked a question I got a great answer.
Really cool guy and a great professor. He does not make you buy the book which is nice. His lectures are easy to follow and the tests are exactly like the homework packets. 4 tests and 4 homeworks the whole semester so not many graded assignments.
Love this guy and his class. Don't buy the book because he used all his own labs. The labs require brain cells, but I really enjoyed figuring out each piece and Dr. Massey was really available the whole time to explain things and help us through the class. I absolutely would take this class again - he made it fun and his lectures were solid.
I dont like the way he teaches because it is not organised so I had to teach myself everything from internet and the tutors. He gives homework problems for every test but the test is kind of similar to the homework but not exactly. I wish there was more homework so I would know be more confident while taking the test.
best professor ! I took his lab chm 151 very helpful good grader ! you work in groups!
First met prof. Massey for CHM151 lab. Labs are easy. CHM152 is a tough course. Ask questions, need regular attendance to understand course, can meet up with professor to get help with homework, stays on topic, and gives a lot of examples. Tests can be hard if material is not completely understood. Great professor. I would recommend him for anyone!
Dr. Massey is a great guy and gives good lectures. It is definitely doable to obtain an A in the class but you have to work for it. He answers all questions and is available for office hours.
I took CHM151 & 152 with professor Massey and he has great personality. He had great lectures for CHM151 however I didnt like his way of teaching for CHM152. Lectures were basic and exams were too tricky and hard. I spent lots of time with tutors. Most of the people failed the exams or passed with low grades.
Dr. Massey is great. Although he doesnt prefer to teach online when COVID hit he bent over backwards to help students complete the course and master the content. He had virtual office hours at least 8x per week. Dr. Massey is very student focused. Show up, do your work, give it a solid effort and hell get you there. Highly recommend.
This is what you expect out of an online instruction. He encourages students to work together on homework sets and labs and is not exactly a tough grader. He is always there to answer questions and even makes discussion boards for students to type a question and discuss among ourselves before answering himself.
Prof. Massey is amazing! his lectures are online and the lab was in person but he was always available for office hours, very understandable if youre honest. this class requires a lot of conversions and he encourages meeting up with friends and studying. if you have a question you can email him and hell respond within 12 or 24 hours. super funny
The best professor I've ever had... I took him for both Chemistry I and Chemistry II. Wish I could keep taking his chemistry lectures forever lol.
He's not a difficult grader and does reviews before tests which makes things much easier. He also grades on a curve which can be nice if you need the boost. He's also very approachable if you need help and if very willing to explain things so they can be understood.
The professor does an excellent job of working with each student during the labs. The class is very lecture heavy, but he created his own videos. Each week, he assigns about 2-4 videos a week that very in length from 10 minutes - 30 minutes. It's essential to attend office hours for help with the homework
At present, Scott Massey is the Div. Chair of Chemistry at PVCC in Phoenix AZ. He really is an excellent professor. I took this class in Summer session I and it was 5 weeks long - so it felt like warp speed, and that is really the only difficulty I had. The lectures are all online and are remarkable for their conciseness and clarity.
Scott Massey is an outstanding professor who really breaks down the lecture and content to a manageable workload. The homework is directly in line with the lectures and due on the day of exams. He offers office hours and 1 hour review before the exam. You have to make effort to try to fail this class.
The class is graded with only 8 assignments, 4 exams and 4 long-term homework assignments. His lectures are clear and easy to follow. I think it's important to attend his lectures, since there's so few assignments that will impact your grade, so you don't want to miss any of the information.
Love him!! the goat fr
Prof. Massey is such a great professor. He explains everything very clearly. I had him for the lab and the lecture for both chem 1 and 2, and I would take him for every science class I ever need to take. He's accessible outside of class and all expectations are made very clear. highly recommend
