HE IS HILARIOUS, ONE OF THE BEST PROF. HE IS SO PASSIONATE AND YOU NEVER GET TIRED OR BORED OF HIS HEAVY LECTURES. ALTHOUGH, YOU MAY NOT WANT TO TAKE HIM FOR ONLINE CLASS. HE IS NOT A SAME PROF. HE IS ONE OF THE BEST IN person CLASSES.

Prof Matthews is a fun professor. He makes tests easy for students which I very appreciate (Hint: test questions are the lecture objectives). However, he sometimes deviate from the lecture and talk about future related topics. Overall, he's a kind and intuitive professor and definitely would take again.

Had him for both lecture and lab. I thought he was a pretty good professor... not amazing but not terrible. He is pretty funny. My class was behind during semester. Exams can be quite challenging but we go over objectives that are on the exam so you know what to expect. He's helpful in labs. You have to complete lab reports and quizzes (sometimes).

Professor Matthews is a great professor. He makes the class laugh while also making the subject matter clear and memorable. He also does a great job clarifying subject matter outside of class if you still have questions.

Best. Professor. Ever! I had him for BIO101 lab, BIO102 lecture, and zoology. Definitely my favorite professor at NOVA. Makes quiz and test content very clear in lectures and clearly cares about his students. Makes lectures fun and easy to follow. Very easy to talk to and ask questions.

A professor that truly cares about his students. Professor Matthews is passionate about the subjects that he teaches and finds creative ways to speak about them in lecture, making it enjoyable to pay attention. Since the lecture is so engaging it really sticks to you; so, if you take notes during the lecture the class should be walk in the park.

I managed to excel in this class all thanks to professor Matthews. His exams are literally all derived from the objective questions. During lectures, he goes in-depth about all the objectives so pay attention. He was always quick to respond to emails and help me out. Great and caring professor! Really wants you to succeed, just put in the effort.

Scott is a really relatable professor that made classes fun! The online class is fast-paced, but he is always happy to answer questions and make sure you understand what is going on. Tests are straight from the lectures given in class, and are typically pretty open-ended.

Awesome professor!! Loved his classes, super informative and also interesting if you just need the credit. Be in class! He will give you almost every answer on his objectives for the exams during lectures. Take good notes and you will pass with an easy A! Professor Matthews was one of my favorite professors at NOVA. He really kept lecture light hearted and was a very funny professor, helping you stay engaged in the material. Professor Matthews was always very caring for his students and loved when students put in extra steps to show they were giving it their all. He even gave my friend and I candy:)

Such a great professor!! He gave a lot of opportunities to maintain a good grade in the class while also keeping the material fairly easy to learn. His lectures are a little heavy but he knows how to keep the class engaged. Also, he posts a review questions for every chapter to help you study for the quizzes and exams, these arent mandatory.

Professor Matthews was a great professor. I took his class BIO 120 and the tests were pretty straightforward and the study guides were pretty consistent with what material would be on the test. In addition, he kept the class very entertaining. For the lab portion, attendance is mandatory, and the assignments took some time but were easy. Very fun!

Took via online and zoom labs. Really sets you up for success as long as you listen during lecture and study objectives you will do well. Did really enjoy doing illustrations in addition to lab. Would recommend taking this course and with this professor!

I took zoology with Prof Matthews. It was an easy A of you do the work and study his objectives. He definitely sets everyone up for success. He grades fairly and provides lots of opportunity for extra credit. Prof Matthews does talk a lot in lecture and often goes on long tangents not related to class, but he provides all the info you need.

One of the best professors I've ever taken. His lectures go over objectives that are on the exam. Exams are straightforward and don't make you elaborate. As long as you pay attention and take notes, you'll know everything you need for the exam. Gave out no HW. He gives lots of EC opportunities, sometimes just showing up to class gets you EC.

Super nice guy and funny. I only had him for lab so I don't know what his lectures are like, however, I think he's a solid professor and would recommend his class.

Great biology professor, seems to really enjoy teaching biology. His exams are pretty clear and straightforward. He'll even take some questions from his objectives and plop them in. As long as you show up to class and take notes, you'll most likely get an A or B. He usually just have 4 quizzes and 4 exams throughout the semester, but he does do EC.

Professor Matthews is a great professor for biology lab and lecture! He is so knowledgeable in biology and always makes lecture so interesting. His test are straight from the objectives we go over in class so as long as you take notes and study a little you'll do good. Favorite professor I've had!

Fantastic professor, keeps lectures light and fun, doesn't expect too much out of students, all small quizzes are open note and tests are taken straight from the chapter guides he hands out, literally such an easy class and I do not care for science at all but he made it a great time. Anyone taken bio needs to take this man

Awesome teacher, his tests are easy as he gives you all the relevant information for the test and gives you all the tools to get an A in his class, his lectures are the best part I recommend taking him in person and going to every lecture. He teaches with references to his professional work as well as other real world examples of biology.

Informative and fun lectures. Tests and quizzes were straightforward. At the beginning of the semester he told us that following the objectives was all needed to do and that is what let me get a A in the class. There is no homework besides studying. Really good professor who knows his material well.

Prof Matthews was just incredible! Extraordinarily knowledgeable and has been doing this for forever. Super in-tune with exactly what content students tend to struggle with. Super straightforward grading. The lowest exam (not final) is dropped. He has the absolute wildest stories. By far the most engaging lecture I've been in.

He is very funny, don't take anything he says seriously, haha. He knows what he is talking about, but in order to get a good grade you have to actually want it. Studying for exams was easy, he was very very clear what would be on the exam. He respected students and understood their situations.

Loved this class and learned a lot. He has clear, written learning objectives that make note-taking easier and guide you to what will be on the exam so there are no surprises. Best prof for bio ever! learnt so much from him. His grading criteria and what he is asking for in tests are all in the unit objectives. Studying the questions, actively paying attention in class really helps. He is really funny and just makes the class a really friendly and open environment. Everyone matches his energy because of how chill he is.

Professor Scott, Matthews is an amazing professor and makes everything very simple and easy on the students! He makes lecture fun and not boring with his personality and makes college a lot easier and more exciting unlike 90% of the other professors you will come across.

100% recommend for anyone to take any of his classes! You will not regret it. No homeowork what so ever, but the only stuff graded and given out are 4 quizzes, 4 exams, and then a final exam. Super easy and a great time!

He's one of those professors you will fondly remember for years after you graduate college. I took him for BIO 101 and 102 and he is wildly entertaining and fun to listen to. I couldn't recommend a better person to teach biology. Exams are very easy, but only because of his great tools to succeed. Absolutely top-tier.

Mr. Matthews is AWESOME! He really tries making lectures entertaining and educational at the same time. His objectives are nearly a perfect match to the exams, and he offers extra credit on the exams. I would take him again, he really helped me understand everything during lecture.

Just finished taking bio 101 with Professor Matthews and I definitely recommend taking his class. He does talk a little too fast, but he is easy to follow through. His exams are very easy if you study the objective that he provides. There are three exams and a final.

Professor Matthews is the best professor. He makes lectures very fun and interacting with his funny jokes that never end. If you attend his lectures everyday and study the objectives you will pass this class with an A. His tests and quizzes are very simple and come from the same objectives he posts.He doesn't read off the powerpoint,no time wasted.

This man is an incredible professor, probably the kindest one I've ever had. He is passionate and truly loves what he does, he gives excellent and clear lectures and is incredibly lenient. However, don't take this as an excuse to be a bum as he is also very smart and WILL see through the lack of effort and grade you as such.

I took him for lab, but he seemed like a good lecturer! He always answered our questions even if they were a bit silly. You should definitely read the labs before any lab class, but he will especially be upset if he has to explain the whole thing to you (fair!). Otherwise he is SO nice and very understanding :)

Professor Matthews is the best bio professor I've had at Nova. I took him for both BIO 101 and 102 and recieved an A in both classes. His lectures are easy to understand and exams are based only on lecture material. Would recommend Prof Matthews to anyone looking to learn bio and get an A in the class.

I had Professor Matthews for both BIO101 and BIO102 and I can confidently say that he was the best professor I had my entire 2 years at NOVA. Prof Matthews is one of the best profs I've had. He is very funny and nice. His lectures are super easy to pay attention to, and his objectives ARE the tests/quizzes. He also does a fair enough of extra credit. You really have to not try to do bad in this class. This LAB is easy too. The reports and quizzes are just what you did in the lab.

Prof, Matthews is hilarious, and loves his sarcasm for sure. Be ready to take a lot of notes but as long as you study the objectives he has listed you're pretty much set. I will say sometimes he gets too carried away in conversation and gets the class set a little behind but I had no problem with it lol. also always gives extra credit on tests!

I took Professor Mattews for Bio 101 in Fall of 2024, and I genuinely miss that course. Professor Matthews is a human first, professor second. He sees his students as people and meets them where they are. If you're willing to put in the effort and engage with the material - you will do well in his course.

Professor Matthews was great. His lectures are entertaining and engaging. If you sit in the front be prepared to get called on. His quizzes and test are exactly like the objectives so if you study those you will be fine. He also provides quite a bit of extra credit or quizzes and tests.

Genuinely miss bro. Not a bio major but taking his bio101 class made me consider a more science focused career. At least for me, if I didn't make it to his lecture then I wouldn't get a full grasp of the concept. My favorite thing he did was clearly outlining the objectives of what you should know for each topic, which made studying way easier.

He was great. Although, if you need to see the answers on the board for the notes I wouldn't take it because if you miss the information it's not written down or repeated. However if you do catch it in time you're guaranteed a good grade.

His lab was super easy. Show up consistently and do the work and you'll do well. My friends that had him for lecture said his lecture class was more difficult but his lab was pretty easy. He is also very funny and always up to banter with students.

His exams and quizzes are based off of his objectives. Study the objectives and you'll pass easily. He is great at teaching and genuinly funny. I always looked forward to his class to see what random story he'll tell us that day. Take him if you ever get the chance.

Mr. Matthews Bio 101 and 102 class is so straight forward as long as you attend lectures and take notes for the objective questions you will succeed in those two classes. Mr. Matthews is one of my all time favorite professors I have taken at the college and I've taken multiple classes at Nova Loudoun campus. I really recommend taking Matthews!
