He seems to be a really nice guy. but anyone who can make a class where you watch movies and talk about them.. a boring class- than i would call that horrible teaching. His Art of Cinema class is really boring and its a pretty easy grade as long as you do the questions each week. Be ready to be extremely bored and sleepy at times when he teaches
He talks a LOT, but he doesn't expect anyone to listen to him that whole time. He's open to any idea you have. He's also willing to work with you, you just have to ask. If you have a sense of humor and you just get the work done, you'll do fine in his class.
if you cant take a joke, you might want to take a different class, but besides the occasional grilling Scott's classes are very straight forward and easy, if your in cina011, get the book. if your in any other class he teaches you dont need it
I took his online class and it was really easy. He is straighforward..dont' think you could fool him becuase he will know if you didn't read the material or if you plagiarized. His exams are 50 multiple questions for only 55 minutes. SO STUDY....
Great teacher! Really passionate about the subject. I really enjoyed the films and the discussions. This guy knows his stuff. He grades really fair. I really enjoyed his class, and if he taught others I definitely take them.
Took this online. So easy! Interesting films, plenty to choose from each week. Watch a documentary and feature film every other week on netflix, participate in discussions and write film analyses. Four easy quizzes based on the book, no final or essays. Must be thorough and detailed in your papers but it's not hard if you actually watch the films.
In general I think Mr. Mazak is a good teacher. He definitely knows what he's talking about.
Scott is a cool teacher. At first he seemed like an ass, but after that he was cool. CINA 10 is a pretty easy class. As long as you do your work and have a sense of humor, you're golden. And don't BS your papers, he will dock you. He knows what he's talking about. Good teacher, cool class.
Silly class, reviewing chosen films, tried to make it fun to no avail. Mazak's selection of films are questionable, on the selection of sexuality down right offensive. Yet this class will satisfy the general education requirement, I say chose another class.
Culture class was ok, but redundant assignments. he knows films, and class is well designed online. cinema class in classroom was fun, good films. dont copy your papers - he does check. his screenwriting class is best - my favorite class. hard but glad i took it. learned a lot - take that one.
I did not care for this professor at all. I took his online American culture class. The class itself was fun and the movies were really good but he grades really hard and sometimes unfairly. Some weeks he will give you a good score and others a poor one for the same amount of work. It's really frustrating.
Took course online I did my assignments, he kept giving me half credit. I emailed him he gave me an email back that was no more than a template. I just stopped doing work in his class after attempts to get full credit. I didn't have getting Exam Guard to work either.
Best film class I've ever taken, hands down. Don't know why everyone is complaining. Must have been too lazy to actually put any effort into their work. Do the readings, follow the syllabus, attend the lectures, and participate in the discussions: that's all you have to do.
I never got half credit. You would have to turn in total garbage to get half credit in this class. It's an easy grade. I learned a lot and thought it was the best online class I've had yet. I've had a lot of online and his are among the best - lots of clips and links and great lectures. Great class - highly recommend
this guy is hilarious. like a stand up comedy. pretty easy class. funny guy
He is a pretty great teacher. As long as you do the reading, do the assignments, and go to class, you will get an A. He's pretty funny, and shows you films that you probably wouldn't see in another film class. Also, I've noticed that those who participate get better grades, because he grades them easier. So just a hint: Participate. :)
I think his online classes are very clear and detailed. In the classroom classes, he sometimes talks a lot and all over place, but always interesting and funny. His grading can be tough, but when you get to a film school, you will be so glad he was tough on you - trust me! Highly recommend his classes - he knows what he's talking about
Took his Cinema 010 class online during summer session. With the class being accelerated, we had to watch two movies each week - one critic discussion and one analysis paper. If you want an A, make sure you are VERY detailed during your discussions and analysis paper. Also, take advantage of his exam study sheets.
I'm in the middle of taking his online cinema 10 class right now and the class is good but could be better. My only real gripe is that he is extemely rigid on the due date, DO NOT WORK AHEAD! A little flexability in the online class is half of the reason to take one, don't take this class if you need to go away and want to get your work turned in.
Discussions were a bit confusing at first, but once you understand what he is looking for the class is cake. I passed and never used the textbook. Sememster consisted of 4 quizzes and discussions only.
His online classes are well organized. He actually the best online teacher I had. His f2f screenwriting class is fun but hard. His lectures go all over, but he is funny. Online you have to do papers and discussions. He is a fair grader, but a little strict at first. Just keep at it and you will do well by the end!
took the online class. super easy. one movie every week and you choose which questions you want to answer. You can get away with stating facts and filling it up with your opinion. extra credit is offered at the end of the course. good teacher, easy to get ahold of. I recommend this class with this teacher.
This was a decent class, esp. if you're not a cinema buff and just NEED credits like I did. 1 movie per week, 1 page of discussion, 1 reply to someone else's discussion post, and 4 quizzes total. Some interesting stuff - it'll feel like busy work sometimes but it's a good counter to reading/writing-heavy courses. The prof is lenient and reasonable.
Took the online course. Fairly simple but requires some time for film viewing and discussion posts. Exams are based on lecture posts and textbook material. Syllabus says most of the films SHOULD be on Netflix but most are not, so thats a bit of an issue since Blockbuster doesn't carry many of the titles either. Overall a good class. Would recommend
This class provided an interesting way in which to learn about different cultural issues in America. Overall, the course was easy—you just have to watch a film and write a 600 word response to two of the several questions offered and respond to someone else's post once a week. There are also four quizzes, but they are easy if you read the textbook.
EASY CLASS. But do the discussions, and make sure u actually provide lots of detail. if u meet requirements ull pass. read the lecture notes big help on exam. watch movies each week easy class for general ed. grades quick, replies quick. great instructor.highly reccomend
Scott should teach other teachers on how to run an online class. He is by far the best I have taken. His class is easy to understand and his communication skills are wow! His CINA 010 & 011 are the type of easy classes where you really enjoy and learn a ton at the same time. I spent an average of 5 hours. You could probably get that down to 3 hours.
Took Cin 010 this summer, finished with an A, but it took hard work as we were given double the work than during regular semester with hopes of finishing most chapters in the time allowed. Liked the discussions, hard to give most of the movies, even through Netflix. Test easy-take advantage of the study guide! Teahcer communicate was excellent
This teacher was one of the best online teachers I have had. His lectures are pretty easy and clear. Make sure you always go over them for his exams. He is pretty easy and has very fast communication. All we had to do every week was watch a film and answer 2 questions. He gives two exams: One midterm and a final. Overall, GREAT teacher =)
This class was awesome! The movie selections were awesome and the online lectures were very informational. Mazak responded to emails in a very timely manner and was willing to help and give feedback on discussion questions. Take this class!
Mazak was very helpful when i needed to schedule my discussion boards around a trip. He is a very easy grader, the exams were a breeze, just read the lectures, watch movies, and review his study guides. Cake. The subject matter is also pretty fascinating if you're into the history of film and its various forms.
Great class, super easy, tests are easy- glossary helps a lot. Watch a film, answer two questions and done for each week. Great teacher, gives good feedback, and very clear on what he wants and expects. The first discussion he makes it clear how he wants it every week. Do what he expects and you are golden. I would take him again in a heart beat.
Really nice, fast at replying and the class is easy. Every week you read the lecture notes then you watch a movie thats on a list and pick two questions to respond to and respond to another persons post. Only tests are midterm and the finals. Professor Mazak is very helpful and nice, every time i have a question its always answered. Overall easy!!!
Class is easy just follow the study guide for the timed test. Also uses Lock-Guard to help curb online test cheating. Overall great class with a great selection of films to watch. Makes a list of movies for different media outlets to choose from like: Netflix, Amazon Prime etc. He reads all responses, so do them right. Offers extra credit though.
We would watch a film every week, alternating between documentaries and feature films. He expects you to very specific in your posts to the discussions so be prepared to analyze the films meticulously; we also had to respond to our classmates' posts. There's only a few quizzes on terms from the textbook.
I took this class online, so I basically would watch two movies every week and have to analyze a cinematic aspect of the movies to the fullest extent. Furthermore, you have to reply to other students as enthusiastically as your own answer was. It's not very difficult, but it takes a lot of time! Your rushed last minute answers won't cut it here.
This is the second class I have taken of his. Very eager to help when you ask a question. The work is right there from the beg. If you want full credit do the research and be very detailed. Make sure not to make sure your post and replies are not to brief. Go into complete detail, specific scenes.
Great class if you need something to fulfill the art requirement. You basically watch one movie a week that you get to choose from a list depending on what genre or subject you happen to be focusing on for that week. Then you write about it on a discussion board. There are a few multiple choice quizzes and extra credit opportunities if you need it.
Currently taking him to online Cinema. Easy teacher Watch movies- provide a substantial length on the discussions and respond to others as well. Quizzes are easy, you don't need the book. Lecture provide all the quiz info and he states that as well. Understanding what he expects is understandable. You have to be a dummy to fail this class.
Loved this class. The fact that all you have to do is watch movies and respond to discussions on them is awesome. I took this class online and it was so easy and very interesting. I'm taking another one next semester for sure.
The professor is nice, keeps you updated, and makes clear of what he expects you to do. Basically every week you read some online lectures ( 2-4 pages ) and watch a film from the list then very thoroughly answer 2 questions about the film. There are a few quizzes on the lectures. I took this class online and it was overall a great class.
His online class was pretty overwhelming with how long his instructions would be. The weekly films he chooses us to watch can be soooo boring, which we would have to get graded on for answering questions. Some questions were hard to understand since it takes critically thinking. But overall class is pretty easy, just boring to go through.
This is a straight forward class. He gives you a list of movies based on a genre and lets you pick from them. Once done watching, you write a discussion and respond to someone else. I actually got to watch some amazing films so the interest of the class is all based on you. Has quizzes maybe every 2-3 weeks. Let's you turn in work late as well.
Excellent class if you like watching films. YOU pick which films to watch (from his approved list) and as long as you do a decent review you will get full points. The exams are super easy and only on the bolded concepts in the textbook (i.e. REVIEW THE INDEX). Actually watched some great films (documentaries and feature films) and discussions post!
Convenient online course and clear outline of expectations. Weekly course work includes watching a film and then discussion board. Doesn't get any easier than that. Quizzes are super easy.
This class was, without a doubt, the easiest and most enjoyable class I ever took at Solano. Watch a film from his chosen list of films, write a little discussion post about it, and get an A.
I took this class online in summer 2017. You have 2 discussions and 2 replies each week based on 2 different films. The professor was great- he types individual notes for each section which made it easier to understand the information from the book. He also gave a wide variety of films to choose from and graded discussions fairly! Awesome class.
I took CINA010 and 011 and had a positive experience in both courses. Professor Mazak grades and responds very quickly. Your grade primarily consists of discussion boards where you answer 3 questions about a movie. There are also quizzes which require Lockdown Browser. Very easy class with extra credit potential during quiz weeks.
Overall easy class for me. I ended up not using the required textbook since the lectures in the modules were very clear and concise. This professor gets back to you with any concerns or questions via email pretty quickly. Offered a lot of extra credit opportunities.
Mazak was a very accommodating professor -- he sends out class reminders and is open to questions and messages. Tips: When answering questions, just explain your thought process as thoroughly as you can. Long answers are good. Study bolded terms in the lectures for the quizzes. Overall, a great professor! Just put in the work.
This class helped me to understand film a little more. He comments on your posts and lets you know how youre doing. Do all the discussions and youll get a good grade.
I took this course online-and regretted it. I would LOVE to take Prof. Mazaks class in person. His lectures are thought provoking and sometimes controversial. I was intrigued, excited, and I had a blast taking this class with this professor. Id do it again in a heartbeat.
Took this class over the summer and it's just like any class; do the work and you'll pass. I Love how he has a list of movies each week for you to choose from. He also comments on your work to a make it better. He's a solid teacher
Just finished this summer class and it was easy. Didnt use the textbook and just read over the lecture notes. He gives great feedback . Overall great class and recommend everyone to take it! Ive learned a lot about film which made me appreciate it more. Gives extra credit also
Easy class and you do use your textbook for definitions only but definitely worth it. The quizzes are only based of of vocab and no final.
Great class, would definitely take him again.
Easy assignments if you actually watch the films. Clear guidelines, gives good feedback, responds quickly, and offers multiple opportunities for extra credit.
Bruh; if you get anything less than an A, you shouldnt be in college.
I absolutely love this professor! His grading criteria is clear. If you turn in exactly what he asks for you'll get an A on every assignment. He provides extra credit, which is helpful. Every week you'll write about a film and overall there were 4 quizzes total. I barely used the book, however he recommends having it. EASY A.
I was nervous abt an online class, but this class couldnt be better in person. Grading criteria and guidelines are clear so long you follow them and read you will pass. He is also lenient if u miss something email asap and communicate. I procrastinate and this class was a breeze. If everyone was organized like him id do all my classes online.
Enjoyed this class! Watch a film and write about it!
It's an easy A for an online class. I missed 2 discussions and it bumped my grade down both times, however it was easy to raise my grade back up. If you miss a discussion, you can get up to 4/5 points back. As long as you answer the questions specifically and stay on topic, you should get full points.
Great teacher! Try not to miss any responses it can lower your grade a bit but its easy to get back up. Easy A and this professor always responds to emails in a timely manner and is willing to work with you.
Professor Mazak sets very clear expectations from day one. He's quick to reply to any questions that you may have. There was a textbook assigned, however I only ever used it for the vocabulary. Overall, this class was very well laid out, no confusion whatsoever. I took this class over the summer and it was a great experience. Easy testing as well.
Easy course, very clear and reasonable expectations. Basically watch 2 films a week and write a response within a few sentences. Some of theses responses are extra credit. Do not really need to read the book to pass the course.
Read a chapter, watch film, do discussion post & peer replies weekly. Crystal clear directions. Discussions are not hard, but u have to use critical thinking skills & cite textbook/film. Hes kind of a tough grader. Replies to emails fast. Multiple extra credit opportunities. Tests are not on quizlet but mostly vocab that can be found on lectures.
I've taken CINA 011 since August, since it everything has been finalized, the professor is very good, he makes it really well known on what to do when you do make a mistake when you are doing discussions, with discussions it's easy. choose a film that you want to watch, and reply to one student, also the quizzes are very easy too! Very good class!
Professor Mazak was great! If you look in the syllabus, there is a clear outline for the discussions each week. Just follow this and watch one film from each weeks list and youll end the semester with an A. He gives great feedback and will let you know what you need to work on!
Lots of extra credit, course is very straightforward and makes it clear what he wants done
The class is straightforward. All you do is watch a film from the list, pick a couple of questions, and answer them thoroughly. The quizzes/exams were rather easy. The book is not really necessary, but can help you understand some topics only if really needed. The only issue is the minimum words per answer can be a little tedious.
Loved the class. It was literally just watching a movie and then writing about it. There were a few quizzes but they weren't that hard and they were open book too. He always gave clear feedback on the work too so you knew what you had to improve on. Really easy A.
He is a great professor as long as you read his lectures, watch the movies, and respond to the discussions. Super fun and easy class. We had few quizzes and when we did, they were super straight forward. Highly recommend!
This class was super easy. You pick one film to watch each week and have one homework assignment based on the film. Quizzes once in awhile but nothing difficult. The professor is also really nice and replies to emails fast.
Really easy class and fun. Watch a film, write a discussion post, and reply to others. Easy class for procrastinators. All asynchronous and the textbook isn't really needed (you can find it online though). The tests are basically common sense. Take it!
Who doesn't like watching movies for homework? Great class, simple, easy, and fun. Obviously it takes time to write about the movies and respond to peers, but its a great class and you can learn a lot about film and the industry if you apply yourself to the material.
The class is structured well - notes you need for the week, watch a movie, and do a discussion post on them. Overall really easy. On the weeks that we had a quiz (4 of them), the discussion posts were optional for extra credit opportunities.
Overall, I enjoyed having Professor Mazak. His class was straightforward and the work was easy. As long as you do the discussion posts, reply to one person, and do well on the quizzes (which are multiple choice and easy), the class is an easy A. He gives extra credit opportunities (which you most likely won't need :) and he gives good feedback.
Mr. Mazak is such a nice professor, probably the best one I've ever had. We didn't interact much except for his feedback on my discussion responses, and they were super supportive and were the main reason I kept doing my work.
CINA 010 gives a deeper understanding of how film works. Students read online lectures, watch a movie from the weekly list, answer two questions about that movie, and respond to someone else. Each answer must be 220+ words. Textbook not required but recommended. Quizzes and extra credit are occasionally offered.
Professor Mazak has a clear outline of his online class: read his lecture notes (the definitions will be on the quiz), watch a movie, and write a discussion post answering two questions (2 responses to classmates). He also grades easy - and offers some extra credit (if you really need it). Take this class for some easy credits!
He was good but you have to write a specific amount of words in your discussion posts and if you are even 5 works off from the requirement he takes off a lot of points. Movie choices are ok. Toy story is an option once. The rest is all old stuff.
This class is great. Very clearly organized. He responds fast. Grading very clear. He is not strict grading. You will not regret this class. Loved it - his notes way better than the book. Take it.
His online course layouts are really simple. Each unit is weekly but you're given more than enough time to work on them, just turn them in on time. Word counts have to be at least 200 for each 2 out of 5 given questions and 200 responding to another peer, movie choices are okay but work is really easy.
One of the easiest classes I took for the art category in Ged. This class consists of about 3 quizzes and weekly discussions. He does have a textbook but it's not required to purchase or use for the class. The weekly discussions are just watching a movie and writing a 200-word post. Take this class if you need an effortless and easy A class.
The structure was easy: periodic multiple-choice quizzes, punctuated by engaging weekly discussions. Grading was good; meet the criteria, earn full marks. The discussions were manageable, involving watching a single movie and responding to two questions, each requiring 200 words. An amazing professor; I wholeheartedly recommend taking the class.
Weekly film discussion of a film of your choice from a list he provides every week. As long as you meet the bare minimum requirements you'll pass easily. (though missing one can hit your grade hard like it did with me) Most of the films you watch will be older ones, but you'll occasionally be able to do newer ones like Baby Driver and Creed.
Taking this class was easy, watch one movie a week and write 2-3 paragraphs about it. He will give you feedback if you need to fix something. Read the modules and take notes on them because all the material for the quizzes is in there.
well organized class, very clear, online material great, great class
Great prof! Weekly discussions and peer feedback, and 3 quizzes. Super organized and a very understanding person when it came to late work. Highly recommend!
Very easy class structure. Weekly discussions and you reply to one person. You have a few quizzes throughout the semester that's based off the slideshows and is just testing your vocabulary knowledge. Very communicative and grades quickly!
Super easy class. Just have to do a discussion board a week on a movie you watch (he gives you a list).
