He's a very good lecturer, who gives awesome demos. excited about his teaching subject, knows his stuff, and really funny.
Very Funny. Has REEEAALLLYYY good notes. Reading the text and adding to the notes is very helpful. Stays on topic and very helpful if you can find him. Knows his stuff and makes class interesting, highly suggest him.
EXCELLENT teacher! I wasn't too fond of Chemistry in highschool, but Dr. McIndoe really managed to captivate me with the course material. His coursenotes are well planned, and the use of the clicker question system really helps my understanding... I really recommend him as a prof :D
Excellent teacher. So far the only teacher that can keep my interest the entire class. Would recomend to anyone wanting to take chem 101. He is really funny and has a great knowledge of his subject.
He's the best teacher I've had so far at UVic through three terms of classes. I thought he managed the perfect balance between being clear without overexplaining or dumbing down the material. He just seems so... smart! I'd join his fanclub.
Really nice guy. He as funny and tried to make the class more interesting. His notes were really good for the midterm. If you are taking chem take his class.
Great prof! His notes are extremely helpful and very clear. His lectures are interesting, and you can tell he really loves the subject he teaches. He's pretty funny too =P
I loved this prof!!! He taught everything so well and made sure the class understood everything. His review sessions were awesome, and the notes are the best i've had so far. He would bring things into class to make things seem more clear and he was also very very funny!!! If u can get into his class!!1
Excellent Professor. Great at explaining, and was hilarious. He seemed quite seasoned as a Chem 101 lecturer, but it was his first time teaching the course! If you have him as a professor, you will never look at the clock and wonder when the class is going to be over.
Unreal Teacher. Clear Lectures, Good Notes, Keeps you interested.
Best proff i've had a UVic yet, he made chem really interesting and was great at explaining everything. His fill in notes were very helpful and the clicker questions helped alot too. i would take any class he taught!
Awesome at helping out, great prof, very clear.
He was my favourite prof. I had a total crush on him. He has a good sense of humour and a wicked accent. His lectures weren't bad either. There were printable PPT notes that he made for you to fill in. As long as you get some practice done and try out old exams, this course is easy.
Incredddible. Easy to understand, prepares his students for tests well, and has an accent.
I hated chemistry in high school, but this class was amazing. He's funny, his notes are phenomenal, and he gives every tool for success in the course. Highly recommend!
Phenominal notes, a very funny, sensible, concientious man with a great grasp on his field and the english language which is a plus. Great midterms - very fair - definately the best prof I have had in University thus far.
I hade a terrible High School experience, but this course redeemed Chemistry for me. Very thorough and comprehensive notes, amazing teacher (easy to understand, funny and has a fantastic accent) and really prepares you for the tests. If you are thinking of taking Chem 101, make sure you get his lecture section!
Probably the best chem teacher I have ever had. He made the course interesting, and made you actually WANT to come to class. I never fell asleep in this class even though it was early and he is always making jokes. Very good midterms, not too hard/too easy. HIGHLY RECOMENDED!!!!!
Such a good chem prof. A lot of fun and easy to listen to (has a nice accent haha). Good notes, fair tests and a nice guy.
LOVE THIS PROF! He somehow manages to keep chem interesting and seems like a genuinely nice guy. Gives good notes and fair tests. Can't recommend him enough. Be thankful if you end up with McIndoe!
Excellent prof. Very laid back attitude, his humour is just like mine so I loved his lectures. Explains things thoroughly, iclicker questions are relevant and he always explains them. Has a Ziwi accent that makes chemistry even cooler. As a chem major he's made me like the subject even more!
One of my favorite profs! Crystal clear explanations on almost all the topics and very helpful if you have questions. Made my interest in Chemistry much more than it was!
Favourite prof at UVic - easy to understand with a sense of humour. Seems to genuinely care!
Strait up solid prof. explains everything simply and concisely. Uses iClicker a ton and when he sees people aren't getting it he goes back over it. does lots of review and is super approachable. he makes the material interesting
This guy is the bomb! I never had much of an interest in chemistry in high school but McIndoe made chemistry enjoyable. Hands down my favorite prof I've had so far. He wants students to succeed and cares more than most profs do with regards to students. He prepared the class for the midterms and the final. I hope to get him again down the road.
Fantastic prof. I had absolutely no interest in chemistry before I took this class with him, and now I'm considering making it my major. Best prof I've had so far.
Gonna miss having him. Don't like chemistry all that much but he made it bearable. Funny, and has a nice accent. He explains concepts fairly well. Overall great guy and great prof.
Awesome! One of my favorite profs at Vic so far. He always brings a smile to class and is always cracking jokes =)
Awesome prof. I have never been much of a chem person, but he made it work for me. Funny, clear, and friendly - he gives you everything you need to do well, and he honestly seems to want you to! I went to other profs' review sessions too, and he was undoubtedly the best, in my opinion. Take his class; you won't regret it!
Great prof. Provides everything you need to know to do well in the lectures. Hardly used the textbook at all. Explains concepts well and adds humor to lectures. And a great accent :)
This prof made Chemistry enjoyable for me. He's extremely clear in lectures and delivers all the material you need to know for the exam, always taking ample time to review in class before each midterm. He seemed to genuinely care about his student and was very helpful out of class.
One of the best profs I've had at UVic! Great sense of humor and lectures were clear and interesting. Highly recommend.
Best prof i have had so far. Very funny, very clear and an overall great guy. His notes and lectures are easy to follow. If you listen in lectures, study the notes and do the practice questions he has made for you, then you will do great of tests and in the course. Highly recommend! There is no better!
Great Teacher!and hes kinda cute
Great teacher and a funny guy. The lecture notebook works SO well for taking notes and for studying later on, I actually enjoy taking notes. Lectures never feel rushed or too slow, and clicker questions are amusing and often a good challenge. My "Chemistry: The Central Science" textbook hasn't even been opened though. Not at all necessary.
Great professor, kept my interest throughout the class. Funny guy, and has great stories and ways of teaching. Makes a hard course relatively easy. He teaches the concept exceptionally well and clearly. Would recommend taking the class. Midterms are somewhat difficult, but if you study should be fine
Best. Prof. Ever. This guy is crystal clear, provides entertaining demos, and is downright hilarious. Do everything you can to get McIndoe and you won't regret it.
Dr. McIndoe has an exceptional classroom demeanour, and is very helpful and accepting of after class questions. I wasn't into Chemistry at all before this class (course requirement), but he drew me in and made me interested. Highly recommended.
LOVED HIM! had the whole class laughing. even if you don't like chem you'll enjoy his lectures because he adds a lot of humour and does many experiments in class. the course itself is not necessarily easy but work hard and you can get good results.
AMAZING prof. I went into the course unsure and not liking chemistry and he made that class my absolute favorite. Never missed a class.
Great Prof. Little bit too laid back sometimes (especially office hours)
McIndoe is awesome! He makes every class a joy to come to. He also teaches material really clearly and he's really funny. Fair midterms, but the final was a little tough though (he's not the only prof who makes the final for this course). Of all the 1st year chemistry profs McIndoe is by FAR the best. I recommend him over any 1st year chem prof!
I wish I could have every Chem class with him. Not just cause he's good looking but he's funny, passionate and laid back in a good way. Does what he can to help people and uses iclicker to make sure everyone understands. TAKE ANY COURSE WITH HIM YOU CAN
Best prof ever
Scott is wonderful. His teaching style is very clear and he really wants you to do well. Makes Chem easy. Not to mention his New Zealand accent is adorable!!
Scott has to be my favorite teacher, as he always proves to make his students understand the course material, while making the lectures enjoyable and entertaining. He is open to feedback, and loves answering questions, and giving help in office hours, which he has regularly. His tests are fair, on the material, and easy if you listen.
Overall my favourite first year prof. Not only is he hilarious, but he's a really good instructor. He explains concepts clearly and is great with examples. His end-of-chapter demos are also always a hit. Would highly recommend trying to be in his class if you can!!
You won't go to a lecture where you don't laugh at his jokes. Hilarious prof, but more importantly, a great teacher. Has his office hours in a lecture theatre and does old exam questions with everyone, so try to go to those as much as possible. Definitely take his class if you can!
Scott was by far my favorite prof this semester. He was hilarious and you can tell very passionate about what he is teaching. He also managed to make chem my favorite class which I never thought could be possible. If you can.. take his class!!! His office hours are also super helpful so I recommend attending those when you can.
Mr. McIndoe was my professor for Chem 101, and I would recommend him highly. His lectures are extremely well organized (you're given fill-in notes), highly engaging, and reasonably well explained. Moreover, McIndoe does review sessions in lecture before exams which are a must go to. Beware, the textbook does NOT cover everything from lecture.
McIndoe is the best Chem teacher I've ever had! Lecture book is used each class for taking notes, reviews are done before exam & each midterm, office hours are helpful, and a Q&A on coursespaces is perfect for getting answers straight from McIndoe! Make sure you actually do the problems in the text, because they aren't always done in class!
Simply the best Chem prof ever. He's hilarious and so helpful (lots of office hours, lecture notebooks, ect.). Take McIndoe over any other Chem prof if you have the chance. You will have to study for the exams though.
A good prof to have if you otherwise wouldn't be motivated to come to class. Funny and did lots of demos in lecture. He also puts a lot of time and effort into providing extra help; his office hours are definitely worth attending.
Best Chem prof I've ever had, this guy is a god. You have to go to class, but he makes it interesting anyways. Fridays are experiments and they're the best.
Very engaging in lecture, does lots of demos! His accent isn't a problem-still easy to understand! Office hours were held in a lecture hall so many students could come and work through old midterm questions. Only downside was that sometimes if you asked him a question, he wouldn't phrase the answer in a different/new way, would only repeat.
McIndoe is a hilarious person, who makes his lectures fun and enjoyable. While I found he was sometimes difficult to follow, this was most likely due to the fact that first year is an adjustment no matter which class you're in, rather than his teaching being bad. He always holds helpful office hours and is a really funny prof. Would take again!
The best professor I had this year. Knows his stuff and explains it clearly to the class. Not to mention he's hilarious and often includes anecdotes about his own life in his lectures. Go to his review sessions, read the textbook and look up old midterms and tests online (he has an old blog with tons of questions) and you should do fine.
Chem 101 was my first ever class at UVic and Scott completely set the mood for the whole semester. I was really scared of taking chem but he made me love it and really knows what he's talking about. Go to office hours as he has tons of practice problems for you to do and they really help you get a sense of what he'll ask on midterms and the final.
Great professor and gave good examples for exam questions. Lectures were worth attending since he's hilarious. Probably the best professor I had in first year science at uvic.
My favourite first year teacher, he is an excellent prof. Can do very well in class if you put in a little bit of work. His office hours sessions where very helpful. Would definitely take a class with him again.
made chem enjoyable and in all honesty, a lot of that was probably due to his accent! Materials were easy to understand through his teaching.
Great lectures. Annoying labs
He's my favourite prof
Im a first year student at the university of Victoria, and I can say without a doubt, that he was the best teacher I have ever had in my life.
Coolest prof. Would definitely take again
I thought he was an excellent prof. Despite the fact that I took AP Chemistry, I still managed to learn a lot from him. His lectures are entertaining and easy to follow.
Hilarious prof, made chemistry much more interesting. I strongly recommend him. I'm sad I'm not gonna have him for second semester because he was so good!!
Great teacher, really cares about the students. Keeps the lectures very interesting. Answers all your questions on coursespaces quickly if the question hasn't been asked before.
Dr. McIndoe is a fantastic prof! He effectively explains the material, is engaging and humorous, and does lots of interesting demos. It's obvious that he cares about his students' learning, and he provides opportunities outside of class time for extra help, such as tutorial-style office hours and a review session before the final.
THE BEST!!!! was very good at going over material before midterms and finals. Did not go into extensive detail in lecture, but had 2 open hours a week to ask questions. Amazing prof, cared a lot about his students.
Great prof! Always willing to answer questions about anything chemistry-related. Cracks a lot of jokes during lectures and has actual expression is his voice when he teaches -- I have come close to falling asleep in class before but never with him. If you pay attention and do your practice, you'll be just fine.
Beauty prof
McIndoe is a graet prof! his lectures are hilarious as well as very helpful for understanding the course material. Really helped make university chemistry seem less intimidating.
Scott is a nice, relatable guy. The only thing I disliked about his lectures is that he never gave examples on how to use and manipulate the formulas, so be prepared for a lot of at home practice. Otherwise he explains every concept so easily and I really enjoyed being his student! Recommend
Went over some really complicated subjects and still managed to make them understandable and also really fun to learn. Really hilarious guy 10/10 would take his class again.
Scott McIndoe is an amazing prof and an even more amazing man. He was by-far the best lecturer that I had first year. He explained things perfectly, added hilarious jokes and really cared about his students. If I could've had him as a prof all semester I would. If you have to take Chem 101, have no fear, all the profs are amazing and Scott is a gem
His lectures are v interesting and while all the people here who seem to think he is hilarious are not wrong, hes not a stand up comedian or anything, he just occasionally tells stories and jokes around, and everyone laughs because hes a likable guy who makes us feel smart because he trusts that we understand all the big words he uses
Scott is by far the best chem prof of the term. By a long shot, he was the clearest and also the most helpful when the final came around. He's very charismatic and it's pretty hard to dislike him. He also does anonymous google form questions so you don't have to ask in front of the 300 person room
His office hours are amazing, so generous to his students with extra help.
I had Scott in my first term of first year, so one of the first profs I met, and he set the bar so high! He is very nice and has a good sense of humour and never made class boring. I just enjoyed listening to him and going to class.
Professor McIndoe is an absolute gem, his class demos make you engaged. Make sure to check out his office hours! This dude genuinely wants his students to succeed :)
Wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt. I can't. 1. Teaching is unengaging - unnecessarily long explanations for simple concepts 2. Extremely unorganized (unclear sigfig expectations on quizzes; ignores questions about them) 3. Quiz question needed max speed an electron can travel at, which was not ever mentioned in lecture or textbook
Although he is a kind and fair person, the content is so poorly explained that I have to watch YouTube videos on the topics after to even understand what he was talking about. He doesnt do any worked examples in class hardly. You get the formulas and then are forced to figure it out. He admits the test questions are harder than practice.
Scott pre-recorded his lectures and played them live while he answered questions in the zoom chat box, which was extremely useful. He was always available after class and replied to ALL posts on the discussion board. He had a sense of humour and engaged with students frequently. His test was fair, and he provided concrete explanations for topics.
I really loved Scott's lectures and the way he ran class. Chem 101 was an online class, and Scott prerecorded all of his lectures, then in the Zoom session, he played the prerecorded video and was in the chat to answer any questions - or make jokes! This allowed the class to never go overtime. Overall, I really enjoyed his part of the course.
Scott is such an awesome dude. Lectures make sense and he wants you to actually understand the content rather than just memorizing it. Love this guy.
Going to Scott's lectures was something I looked forward too. Explained content in a way easy to understand, and had office hours multiple times a week. Very approachable, and just an all around enjoyable guy
Scott, always made class entertaining, notes are easy and all taken down in the lecture book. He has the best office hours out of any professor! Goes over old exam questions in them and it gave me a much more complete understanding of the subject. I wish more profs would do this. In class clicker questionsyour participation mark .
Dr McIndoe is hilarious and keeps class engaging. He doesnt do problems in class, but has an awesome recorded office hour where he does old exam questions with explanations and takes questions after. Wish he had taught all of chem 101. Fill in the blank lecture book.
He has a google forum for questions during lectures, it's so friggin amazing, amazing chap
He is amazing.
Really liked how he ran the class, made lectures interesting and clearly wanted us to do well
The kindest prof. Not going to lie, this man made me fall in love with chemistry.
Scott's lectures were super entertaining, and I found his office hours to be very helpful. He's also really good with answering the classes questions. I wish he taught all of chem 101 tbh. The only thing is that he went through the slides pretty fast, but he still kept the class engaging and he was really good at explaining the material.
Scott is super popular and it's well-deserved! He is easily accessible to his students and gives everyone multiple avenues to ask questions and learn. I didn't take advantage of this, but he will even drop into study groups to answer questions if you set it up with him. His office hours are very very helpful, and his explanations are clear.
Dr. McIndoe is the unicorn professor. He records his lectures, answers every single question and does amazing review sessions. If you put in the work, attend lectures and use the RPSC method you really can't go wrong.
Mcindoe is absolutely phenomenal at delivering some of the hardest course material possible in a variety of manners: from his lecture slides to his well-paced and deliberate commentary, to the godsend lecture book. He ensures that the class is staying well-engaged and practiced through in-lecture participation questions and (amazing) office hours.
Prof. Mcindoe was amazing! Everything about how this course is set up is great. He holds multiple office hours a week on zoom/in a lecture hall where he goes over practice questions. The notes are easy to follow, he's an engaging lecturer, and so many resources are provided for studying the material.
Scott is amazing. Very good connect of the material covered in class to that on the midterms. Would recommend watching office hours if you want to do well, however, probably won't get the best mark if you don't. Great guy. Love the accent.
Very nice, funny, and helpful guy. Spends his own time answering student's questions on Brightspace. If you complete the homework and attend (or watch the recording of) the zoom office hours, I think it's fairly easy to get a high grade in this course.
Great prof, really cares about his students and the subject. work books are extremely nice for taking notes. tests are nothing surprising. the review sessions that he puts on before midterms are very helpful. would definitely recommend. nice accent.
My favourite prof by far. Hilarious and genuinely wants everyone to succeed. The lecture book for notes is a life saver, and so are his pre-exam review sessions and office hours. He has an anonymous forum to ask questions in class and then answers every single one on BrSp. Lectures are engaging and straight-forward and exams are fair. Awesome prof.
I hated the class, seemed to be designed to make first year university as bad as humanly possible. But Scott sis an amazing job at preparing us for exams and quizzes.
THE perfect prof. Passionate, helpful, knowledgeable, organized, funny, considerate, and dedicated. Has all the resources and cares about your success. Pours his time, heart, and soul into making it an accessible learning experience for all. I learned so much and truly enjoyed every single lecture. MUST go to office hours or watch the recorded ones
Enthusiastic about what he teaches and keeps lectures entertaining with funny stories. Midterms seemed relatively fair if you keep to date with the material and do the practice questions. The lecture book we were required to purchase was very helpful to keep notes organized and clear.
The class was difficult for me, but for others that enjoy chemistry, it will be a breeze. Scott is by far one of the best professors I've had at uvic in my 2 years of being here. He wants you to be successful and gives you all the resources you will need. Great jokes too!
Great guy. Funny, good at teaching, and spends time answering brightspace questions. This is not a hard course at all if you put in some time.
Scott was a great professor as a first year student at Uvic. He wanted students to do well in his class. He offered multiple review sessions of course material a week and had extra sessions before midterms and exams. He explains concepts well and interacts with his students during lecture.
Scott McIndoe had really enjoyable lectures. The lecture book was very handy and his lectures were easy to follow. He offered online review sessions for exams which covered basically everything that was on the exams. I found the exams to be quite difficult, and they make up the majority of your grade, but overall he was a great professor!
an excellent professor, clear explanations
Funny guy but be sure to study a lot outside of class
Although CHEM 101 was difficult at times, Scott was very good at explaining complicated topics. His discussion forum was very helpful and so were his office hours and exam reviews. He also spoke slowly in lecture so everybody could keep up. Overall, a really great prof.
awesome
Got him for the second half of the semester and it made a huge difference in my engagement. Super great guy that explains stuff well and keeps your attention in lectures. His office hours also set you up for success in the class. His passion makes the learning experience better and my grade boosted after the swap to him!
Chem 101 was my favourite class and I owe that to Scott. His office hours were very helpful, the lecture books instead of a textbook were awesome, his demos were cool and always on topic. He was very kind and obviously cares about his students and likes teaching first years. He mades clear what you need to do to succeed. Take anything he teaches!
Scott was a great teacher for Chem 101. Would recommend!
Dr McIndoe clearly enjoys teaching chem 101. He takes student's feedback very seriously and has made some changes that really benefit students. Use his online/in person office hours and take his practice exams he puts out on brightspace as they are taking from past years exams so it pretty much lays out exactly what you will be tested on.
Great prof for the course overall, his great sense of humour and demos in class definitely made lectures more engaging and solidified concepts. The course lecture book was a helpful way to keep notes organized. Exams were somewhat difficult and had content that was not covered well, especially the final - keep up with studying throughout the term.
Scott is a great lecturer and all around super nice guy! His lectures are engaging and he explains all of the concepts very well. He was very personable and made class fun. His office hours/tutorials were very helpful and are a great way to study for tests. I appreciated that he would answer any questions about homework problems in Brightspace.
Scott is a great professor who makes Chem 101 engaging with his awesome demos and clear explanations. His office hours and practice exams are super helpful. I used unstuckstudy too for extra study prep - highly recommend this class!
Didnt learn much from his lectures, had to study on my own. Very dull, far from the best in presenting content-heavy courses such as chem.
Explains things really well and is open to questions
Funny and engaging, and very helpful outside of class. Makes it clear what's expected of you for tests, and clearly cares about you doing well. Sometimes his explanation of concepts during lectures didn't make the most sense, but still makes Chem 101 manageable, even if you have a heavy course load. Go to his office hours, they're super helpful!!
Prof McIndoe was by far my favourite professor this semester, his lectures are informative, and interesting. He cares a lot about his students, and their understanding. His office hours were extremely helpful as he went through old exam questions, that were usually pretty similar to the tests.
Super kind professor who clearly wants his students to do well. Tons of engaging in class demos and overall very funny. Knows a lot about what he teaches, because of this sometimes his explanations can be a little confusing, but he will explain concepts again/in different ways if asked. Also quickly responds to questions on brightspace.
Scott is a beauty. He puts a lot of effort into making things clear for students (including building demos for us when topics were confusing which was above and beyond). Exam questions were challenging at times but very doable if you stay on top of the homework and put time into understanding complicated material.
