He is one of the best English teachers I've had in quite awhile. He is funny and actually makes Shakespeare interesting.
Excellent teacher, and excellent person. You have to keep up with your reading, but if you do, you'll be just fine in this course. Funniest teacher I've ever had.
The best teacher ever! I was obsessed never wanted to miss class! Actually knows what he is talking about and enjoys teaching. Plus is totally entertaining and funny.
best ever! i hate english and lit but he made it really fun. if you can pick a teacher he's the one to pick. ua has a lot of crappy english gta's who get off on failing undergrads. Mcwaters is on our side and you WILL love his class. A++
Mr. McWaters is fabulous. Not strict. Can miss four days, but I didn't want to miss at all. Very entertaining and loves his job. He wants you to do well!! He knows all his students names, and always makes you feel like you know what you are talking about!! Great!
SUCH A GREAT PROFESSOR. His class SEEMS overwhelming at first but he is such a great teacher, test giver and person- that everything always works out wonderful if you try. He is so interesting to listen to and he genuinely loves his students and what they have to say. Definitely take his class if you have the opportunity!
Great teacher. He is very interesting and he actually makes you want to go to class. He makes everything easy to understand and he makes it so that we can relate to it. He doesnt grade papers hard and if you read you will make a easy A in his class. He is definitely my favorite i think everyone should take this mans class at least once.
Scott is possibly the FUNNIEST professor I've ever had. The class is very interesting and he can make sence of any situation. The mid-term and final was open note. Thats always a plus. I highly recommend him!
Loved this class! Scott was so funny and made literature very interesting to learn. I would highly recommend him!
Too much lecturing, no discussion, egomaniacal, difficult to stand.
Scottie McWaters! Amazing teacher. He made me excited about going to his class at 8am. I enjoyed his lectures. I was excited about learning. He made it fun, and I've learned more in one of his classes then all of last semester. He's my favorite teacher. He's the one you look up in the schedule to try to get again.

Definatly the best teacher I've had yet. He sparked my interest in the class. His tests are open notebook but they aren't push-overs. If you are prepared to read 10 pages twice a week and pay attention in class then you can get an easy A.
The best teacher I've ever had! He's hilarious and makes the subject interesting. The quizzes are easy and tests are open-note. I looked forward to MWF just for his class. It was definately my favorite class.
This man is amazing. I'm terrible at literature and am rocking an A in his class. He practically gives you every answer to the tests. If you understand what a metaphor is, you'll do fine.
Hands down, he's been the best teacher I've had so far. He's very animated and into what he's teaching. He brings a new perspective into the most boring peices we've read and makes you think about his class outside of class. Take him if you can!!!
He's a really good teacher... we watched movies and wrote papers about them... he's alot of fun, but you learn stuff too!
He is an excellent teacher!! He can keep your attention and make you really love the material. If you read the material you will do very well.
He is awesome! I would recommend him at UA! I actually enjoyed going to his class!
Professor McWaters is one of the coolest people I have ever encountered as well as one of the best professors I had my freshman year. I highly encourage anyone to take his classes, he acctually cares about his students. He is absolutely hillarious, which makes class that much more interesting. Take him!
Great teacher, very eccentric and really reminds me of Kramer a lot. Come to class, participate, write some stuff, easy A if you pay attention!
He is a wonderful teacher. He is so encouraging and helpful. My favorite class thus far at UA. He will make you strive for excellence! Take his class- any of them
Really cool guy - funny and clever. Class is a joke and all you do is read some fairly interesting stuff. Highly recommended.

Easily the best literature teacher that I have ever had.
I thought he was a jerk. Also, he has a very big ego. He doesn't make comments on papers, which is very unhelpful. All he does is give a grade and thats it. I hated him.
He is a very interesting teacher and willing to meet after class. He gives 6 pop quizzes, 1 paper, and 3 tests. The quizzes/tests are very hard, but the tests are open notes. There is assigned readings for every test. He is a GREAT teacher if you are like Literature, but he is not an easy A.
Great teacher. He really makes the class interesting.
Funny and interesting guy but is serious when it gets down to work. Read your material and do everything ON TIME and the RIGHT WAY- he's annoyed if you don't. Participate also. Doesn't really care about paper length just is very cut throat about applying techniques he has taught in class. Not your typical writing style either- more informal
pretty much...exactly what the dude under this rating said. He's pretty ridiulous when it came to the research paper topics but oh well. I just hate english composition so this may discourage anyone who enjoys english at all.
He puts things in the most brazen of ways when explaining the metaphorical, and that is entertaining, But...he expresses this whole, "I don't get it mentality." which at times is annoying. If the teacher doesn't understand what he's teaching, then how the heck should I understand the material as presented by one who at times, "just doesn't get it"
He was intimidating on the first day, but after that he was great! If you take him for any class, he will help you become a better writer than you ever were. I got an A+ in his class. Very helpful, highly recommended for anybody, and looks and acts very similar to Jon Stewart.
Best english class I've ever taken. he's a great teacher and makes it interesting and pretty applicable to your life, which is weird, I know, but he's totally cool and laid back. Attendance isn't mandatory but there are random quizzes that count as a participation grade. I definitely recommend him to everyone, even if you don't like english!
Class is not required but everything that is on the test he says in class. As long as you listen you should do well. He's very interesting, intelligent, and good looking. I look forward to this class, he does a great job of leading on to alternative thought.
Attendance is not required, but he gives reading quizzes throughout the semester. His tests are multiple choice, very subjective, and are made of things he says in class, so it is important to go to class if you want to get a good grade. Good class, but don't know if I recommend him.
Awesome professor...probably the most interesting and enthusiastic I've had. You don't really have to do the readings to get an A. If you skim over them you should be fine. Just show up and listen (which is easy/fun to do) and you'll be fine. The test questions come straight out of his lectures. It gets pretty deep, but this class is worth taking.
Absolutely hilarious. Love him. He is very insightful and makes class fun and interesting.
I took the class because I had heard nothing but good things about McWaters. Dont take this class if you dont like to read or have trouble focusing in lecture classes. I learned a ton and all I have to show for it is a D-. Tests are difficult and exam took the entire 2.5 hours. Awesome guy, learned a lot about life in general, but very tough class.
Very exciting teacher. Learned a lot in my British Literature class.
GREAT teacher. He made American lit enjoyable for me, even though it is far from my favorite. The tests were difficult, a little more subjective than I'm used to; but I don't even care that my grade was lower than normal because I enjoyed the class so much. I would suggest him if you want to think and learn about more than just literature.
MY FAVORITE TEACHER EVER! Not to mention THE most interesting man I have ever met.
This was the best class I have ever taken. He is the most interesting man I have come across in many years and he has a lot of different insight into life. His tests are difficult but fair. I would recomend taking this class you will learn a lot about life and really question who you are.
His class was easy, but you do need to study a little for the tests. There is a lot of reading (it is a lit class), but most of the test content comes from class. He works really hard to relate literature to everyday life. Like others have said, interesting guy. The coursework consisted of a few quizzes, multiple choice tests, and in-class essays.
McWaters is super hot. He is very very smart and made the class interesting. He is also pretty funny. Keep up on your readings, he gives random quizzes. Tests come straight from notes and readings. His mid-term and final are essays which you can prepare ahead. Great class!
Best Prof. I had at UA. Thoroughly enjoyed his class!
He's a very interesting guy, very funny, and gives alot of examples about everyday life to relate the work to. I would definately reccommend him to anybody, I didnt make good on the quizzes cause i didnt read but other than that it was a good class
Dr. McWaters is a great teacher. He is understanding, and is able to helps others understand. He does a wonderful job of inspiring students. He should probably get a pay raise.
Scott was by far the best teacher the best teacher I have had. You have to read (for every class) in order to do well on the pop quizzes (only 5 or 6 for the entire semester) but in every reading adn every lecture he ties it into real life and modern times.Tests are straight from lectures and notes that he puts on the board. Awesome teacher!!
Great teacher! Had him for an Honors Seminar and he's really interesting and covers everything really well and in depth. Our class environment was wonderful and everyone should take him!
LITERALLY the best teacher I have ever had in my life. He makes all the material interesting, easy to relate to and fun (yes, fun). His class changed my perspective on american literature completely. Take this class you will not regret it. P.S he's strangely attractive as well.
I have to agree COMPLETELY with the comment below. His class was engaging and thought provoking. He is strangely HOT. Professors like him are the reason that I came to college. Please take him!
Best teacher I've had at UA thus far. He is very interesting and gave me a completely different viewpoint on literature. Loved his class! Take him! You will learn a lot about literature and life.
Best English teacher I had at UA. Completely changed the way I read and view literature. If you are interested in literature or seeking an English degree, Scott is is a must.
The best English teacher I had a UA. He brings new light to literature that I once thought to be very uninteresting. Attendance is not mandatory; however, he gives quizzes (which are very easy) throughout the semester on random days. Although it is not required, I found myself going to his class because I enjoyed it so much!
I took a class about "The Brothers Karamazov," which he is very passionate about. His class is very interesting and very thought-provoking. He is funny and worthy of my Friday afternoon 3-5 time slot. Take his class!
Best course I took at UA was his EN 219. So good at relating to students and making even the most boring readings so interesting. Very thought-provoking. Occasional quizzes, but they're not hard. TAKE HIS CLASS if you can!!
This was a class on The Brothers Karamazov. He had a lot of interesting insight. I would definitely take another one of his classes if I had the chance.
I had him for Honors American Lit, he's by far the most interesting teacher I've had at UA thus far. He explains the material with such fervor, it's pretty contagious. Funny guy, too. Would gladly take him again if the situation presented itself.
Very smart and helpful. Looked forward to class (we didn't have to go on most fridays). His paper prompts are interesting, except the first one. He grades very easily, except the first paper but thats just a wake up call kind of thing. If you put forth effort you'll do well.
McWaters makes his class fun and interesting. He is really quirky and hilarious. He grades a little hard on the first few papers, but grades really easy on the last few which count for more. If you listen to what he wants and are respectful, you will make an A and love this class.
THE BEST teacher I've ever had. He is so entertaining and has a lot of interesting perspectives on the lit. I actually looked forward to going to class & Ive never liked Lit that much. If you go to class and take good notes it doesnt take a lot of studying to do well. I plan on taking another class with him just for an elective. Awesome teacher!
McWaters is so much more than just another teacher. I've never particularly liked literature, but after this class I feel like I have a new interest. I could actually discuss this literature with other people and have an opinion on it. Such a fun and interesting class. I truly learned a lot, and I never even wanted to skip class.
I started this class as a history major and finished it as an English major. Dr. McWaters is a ridiculously good teacher, and his perspective on American literature is something every American could use to hear. I gained some invaluable nuggets of wisdom from his class. Keep up with the reading and you shouldn't have any major problems.
I loved Him! He's very animated in class and has an interesting way of relating topics to college students. He came with many disclaimers so as not to offend anyone but I truly valued what he had to say. He doesn't pretend to know the answer to everything but has an amazing amount of knowledge about his subject!
I loved him! He was the best professor I have had since starting college! Going into this class I was dreading literature, but he made me really enjoy it. As long as you go to class, listen, and take notes you should do well. Also, do the reading he assigns. He will have random reading quizzes.
Dr. McWaters was definitely my favorite English professor.
Outstanding professor! Literally have to hold my hand over my mouth so that I don't bust out laughing during class. He has a different approach to teaching then most boring English professors and it works perfectly. I loved everything about his class. If you put the effort into your work and take the time to do well, your grade will reflect that.
This is the second class I have had with McWaters, and as expected he did not disappoint. It was an Honors Seminar about "The Divine Comedy," which sounds dreadful but I looked forward to this class! McWaters relates the material in a way everyone can understand, he is HILARIOUS and definitely holds interest. Personality makes him weirdly hot..
Absolutely loved having him as a teacher. Extremely entertaining and clarifying in class. Only downside was horrible at emailing back. Beware of fear of speaking in front of class. It's a requirement to read your own writing when presented with a homework journal.
I would have recommended him to anyone, but after I received a low grade on my final paper, I emailed him to ask what he didn't like. I emailed him a few times with different questions. He responded to one email but not with any feedback. During the semester he tells you how you can always meet with him, but after it's over he doesn't seem to care.
Great teacher and made me want to go to class at 9 AM. YOU MUST READ THE READINGS HE ASSIGNS. Attendance is not required but he does random quizzes that count towards your grade. Overall the class is not hard unless you make it. Two test, two papers, random quizzes and a comprehensive final.
McWaters has a talent for making an entire course of dozens of pieces of literature not only cohesive, but hilarious and interesting. Adored his class, adored him, extremely easy and extremely enjoyable. Probably one of the university's most underrated professors. Absolutely, absolutely take him.
I've never left on a comment on this website (or any other), but this man is truly an inspiration. Not an easy class for freshmen, but he's clear in his expectations and this class is full of life lessons. A definite must take professor.
Honestly the best teacher I have taken. It is a waste of your tuition if you do not take him. Makes the class interesting and you will laugh at his impressions. Overall I will recommend this teacher to anyone even if you dont need to take this class. Beyond a doubt coolest teacher I have ever had.
McWaters is a very good professor but he grades extremely hard. He keeps the classroom entertained, but if you are not good at writing papers DO NOT TAKE HIM!
I love this class. I took him for 102. He's a great teacher but he's a really hard grader. I'm not the strongest writer but it pushed me to work harder. LOVED HIM!!! and go to the writing center for help!!
Dr. McWaters is awesome! Come to class ready to laugh, because he is hilarious. He is a great teacher and really gets the class involved. Would take again for sure.
McWaters is absolutely hilarious. His UH 300 Class about Dante's Divine Comedy was by far my favorite class of the semester. I greatly looked forward to the class for his funny lectures. He is extremely passionate about what he teaches and makes it interesting. Just be prepared to read a lot. Would definitely take again.
Hands down, McWaters is the best professor I've had at UA. His lectures are funny and informative, and he makes you see pieces of literature through a different lens. He has a really good sense of humor, and he shows an obvious passion for literature. 3 tests and 2 papers, with a ton of pop quizzes so make sure you read. Would definitely take again
A hilarious, engaging teacher whose lectures can get somewhat abstract, but are always entertaining and inisightful. Get ready for a few pop quizzes, and a multiple choice exam, but honestly if you put in a decent amount of work, like lecture notes and reading, you'll get a great semester!
Gives more a lot more work than other EN 101 teachers
Scott is the man. I wish I had him for lit. Took him for UH 300 seminar on Dante. He's super funnyquirky. You'll have to read A LOT (literally the entire Divine Comedy) and write two long papers. He grades the papers pretty easy though.
TAKE HIM! Scott is the best english teacher I've had at UA. His lectures are amazing and he keeps your attention for the whole time. He almost always lets you out early. Essays are easy enough and he is very understanding. Wish I had him for 102.
I took McWaters for the UH seminar on Dante and it changed my entire perspective on classic literature. If you take him, be prepared to read. However, lecture is never boring and I looked forward to class every week. Highly recommend!!!
He's the best professor I've ever had. He really cares about what he teaches. He is also incredibly funny!
I would definitely take him again! I am not a fan of literature and sometimes I didn't read, but I still made an A. He is a great guy and really strives to make you understand everything. He continuously says that it isn't rocket science and loves to help. He doesn't make you feel stupid and I actually remember what I learned because of him!
He seemed really nice at first but by the end of the semester, he was sneaking his political views into discussion a lot. He would make you feel like an idiot if your views didn't align with his. He also hated on greek students a lot (and I'm not even greek and I was bothered by it) so that's something to consider. Lectures are interesting though!
Simply said, it is a waste of college tuition if you do not take one of his classes while attending UA. He cares about literature, his students, and about digging deeper than just metaphors and similes. He's one of the best in the English Department, hands down.
McWaters is definitely a tough grader and I didn't love the material, but he is truly a gifted professor. He makes lectures captivating and hilarious and explains things in a modern and relatable way. If you have to take an English class, he's the one to take it with.
Great lectures. Quizzes are annoying but weekly responses aren't hard. One final paper and 4 tests. Gives full notes on all readings before tests. would recommend! attendance not mandatory but you should attend class.
McWaters is the best professor I've had at UA!!! He is calm, understanding, and very laid back. He really tries to help his students, just as long as you put forth some effort. I would definitely recommend taking him!!!!
McWaters was by far my favorite professor of the past semester. He makes normally boring topics very interesting and easy to understand. He genuinely cares about helping people learn what he teaches and becom1ing better writers. If you come to class and will just pay attention and put forth some effort, you will do fine in the class.
My favorite teacher I've had so far. I also had McWaters for EN 101 and he definitely helped me mature my writing skills. He is very laid back but he expects effort from students. Also, go to class.
I had McWaters for multiple EN classes. I took 216 just because I enjoyed his classes so much in those I was required to take. I would HIGHLY recommend this teacher. He is funny, interesting, and makes you think about things in a different way while respecting your opinions. Class isn't hard - couple papers and tests. Participate and you pass.
Taking McWaters is an essential Bama experience. He's hilarious, come to class prepared to laugh. He is very helpful when it comes to the classwork which isn't hard. Showing up everyday is a must, because you don't want to miss his jokes.
I'm a biology major and had to take this class for my lit requirement and I still loved going to class! His lectures are so interesting and his tests are all what he puts on the study guides and things he says in class.
Besides the few annoying papers this class was not bad at all. McWaters is quirky and hilarious and a lot of times cuts class short. Really wants to see his students do well.
McWaters is honestly the best professor I've ever had. He loves his subject, engages with students, and is absolutely hilarious. His class is fairly easy and he doesn't give many assignments, but you do need to attend lectures and participate in discussion if you want to do well on exams. Even if you don't like literature, I you will love McWaters.
High energy and entertaining lectures. Has some odd tangents but overall an enjoyable and easy class. If you test half-decent and show up to class, you're pretty much guaranteed at least a B.
Scott McWaters is the best Literature professor I have had and I do not love learning Literature. He makes the most boring of topics fun and relatable. He wants you to be excited. He often gives a Pop quiz and they are based on the reading you did that night or if you brought your book to class. His test is cumulative and they are multiple choice.
Can I say BAMF on here?! I hope so because Dr McWaters is the best professor/ person I have met on Alabama's campus. He is funny and fair and I think that everyone should be required to take a class from him just to be able to learn to laugh and think deeply. Take a class from him if it is the one thing you do at Alabama!!!
I absolutely adore Mr. McWaters! He is hands-down one of the best professors that i have experienced in my time at UA. He really loves Literature and gets excited about it. His lectures are fun and he is insightful without being pretentious. I looked forward to going to his class every week. There is a lot of reading, but his class is worth it!
He is funny, and a good prof.
Prof. McWaters made some dull class material interesting. He's kinda crazy but entertaining. He's a tough grader on papers but there are only 2 and he makes sure you have other things to pad your grade. Overall enjoyed the class.
He's a great teacher and really enjoys what he's doing. I learned a lot, but also had more work than other En 101 classes. He does easy daily assignments so make sure you go to class.
He is a funny guy. He is one of the best professors I have had!
His lectures are the best. He's a master storyteller. He can sometimes be rash, but he makes up for it with such a hilarious personality. His tests are completely based off of reading and his own words/ views during class, so read up and pay attention.
Excellent professor. I learned a lot of and the class was quite thought-provoking. His lectures are excellent and hilarious (enjoy them and participate/answer questions, etc), and you will learn a lot about literature and human beings. He has a clear schedule and sticks to it. Reading and writing homework is substantial. Easy grader.
I love this professor! He definitely loves his job and the people in his class. He makes sure everyone understands the literature and uses funny "college student" situations so that we can understand the lit!!! His exams are pretty straightforward if you go to class mostly or get someone to give you the notes! I recommend him.
Mr. McWaters is a very entertaining teacher, making class fun. Coursework is pretty easy as long as you keep up with it- weekly responses to a book (I didn't even have to read the book to write the responses), 4 papers, and daily work (so go to class, you can't make these up). Definitely would recommend.
Dr. McWaters is a great teacher and his class is very reasonable. If you go to class, do the reading, and take notes, then you will get a good grade. He is entertaining because he uses funny comparisons to help us understand what we are reading. The homework and reading isn't bad for the most part, but sometimes we would have to read a lot.
Great professor. He tries his best to make his lectures interesting, and he is very goofy. To reward those who come to class, he will drop hint questions that will be on his test or quizzes, but neither are hard even if you just read the material a little bit.
McWaters is a gem. You will learn so much in his class if you pay attention. He's hilarious, entertaining, and crafts each lecture masterfully. Great subject matter in the course that really makes you think. Always looked forward to each class- top notch!
I loved this class! He's so hilarious and really engages with each of his students to make sure everyone was getting the most out of the class. He's a very fair grader and wants to see each of his students do well. There are three main papers and weekly responses which aren't bad. I highly recommend him, he made English enjoyable!!!
McWaters is the best English professor here. He is hilarious, friendly, and gives great lectures. He is super helpful with papers, and not a very tough grader. If you show up to class, put a little effort into your papers, and are friendly you will pass this class easily.
Great Great Great Professor! He is funny and keeps the lectures interesting. I usually struggle with English courses but he is and extraordinary teacher. He really tries to make sure you understand the concepts and how to apply them to your papers. If you do the weekly responses and show up to class, you should pass no problem. Great class!
It's rare that you find a professor who can clearly deliver information and balance it with a genuine concern with what students take away from a lecture outside of the classroom. Professor McWaters does this flawlessly. His lectures are engaging, his expectations are fair, and his intentions are for the good of the students. Will take again!
Love this guy. Lectures are great, and not too much work. You only get 6 absences for the semester, though. This class is an easy A if you show up, do the work, and. get involved. Liked him so much, I decided to take him for 102 as well.
He treats the class like a joke, even told the class he thinks it is. I learned absolutely nothing. You'll think you're going to get an A+ all semester because he grades the HW and classwork very easy, and then all the sudden he grades VERY tough on the final portfolio. My grade went from a 99% to a 91%. He discriminates and only likes outcasts.
Hes a interesting and funny teacher. Loved him as a person but did bad in his class. You were graded on 4 papers(20% each) & 10 responses(20% together). DONT FORGET TO TURN IN YOUR RESPONSES! I got a 50 on my first paper which my dad helped me on. Very unusual to get anything under a 90% in ENG102. Shocked me and my roommates. Hard paper grader.
I'm a premed Microbiology major and hate English courses. Dr. McWaters made showing up to class surprisingly interesting day after day with his quirky stories that help connect older literature to our generation. He approaches many religious texts from a fair, non shove-it-down-your-mind perspective that I enjoyed as someone who is not religious.
Received two 75s in a row on papers because he never gave constructive criticism or tell you what you did wrong on the papers
Not the most entertaining lecturer. Lectures got very long and boring and test questions were very specific. Graded the final paper very harshly, beware.
Prof. McWaters is probably the best professor I've had at UA. He turned me from someone who hated literature into someone who's obsessed with it. His lectures are inspirational and witty, and you can tell he's a philosopher at heart. The readings were super interesting and he provides great perspective. If you need a lit credit, take mcwaters!!!
Attendance helps, but is not necessary. Tests are online, out of class, not proctored. Pop quizzes every week or so, but are available all day on blackboard and usually only 5 questions. One paper at the end. Highly recommend for a laid back lit credit
Honestly, he is a good teacher as he knows what he is talking about, but he is inappropriate. Talks a lot about his personal life and about things that shouldn't be said in a classroom. He made me uncomfortable Just listen in class and you will pass the quizzes
I can't tell you enough how much of an amazing teacher this man is. He listens to your questions and helps with whatever is needed. McWaters has a clear outline of what is to be done for each assignment following up with rubrics. He makes class enjoyable and tons of fun. I HIGHLY HIGHYL recommend taking him.
he is awesome, his lectures are hilarious and he is extremely "into" it every lecture. It isn't necessarily mandatory to go to every class but he does do 10 surprise quizzes every so often.
10 random quizzes throughout the semester which are 25% of your grade. Midterm and Final are incredibly difficult. Response papers are easy, final paper is eh. Phenomenal character as a professor, hilarious and entertaining but the random quizzess get you.
Great professor overall! Hilarious and relatable, but there is a lot of reading to do to prepare for class. Super understanding professor, but the pop quizzes will get you.
He is one of the best lecturers that I've had for any class, and is very engaging. He's hilarious, so it's very easy to pay attention when he's talking. Professor McWaters assigns a lot of reading, but that should be expected in an honors-level class. An amazing professor! 10/10 would take again!
SO MANY POP QUIZZES.Very manageable work but the midterm, final, and essay are impossible and extremely hard. If you go to class take notes and do extra work outside of class you could maintain an A. However, he is a TOUGH grader. No help, No Makeups, No extra credit.
Professor McWaters is one of my favorite professors. His lectures were always engaging because of the crazy stories and side conversations he told. There are 10 pop quizzes throughout the semester which are not hard, just review the material. The final and midterm are long but he does not grade harshly. Same for the responses and final essay.
He's very funny. Class is super engaging and fun even if you do not like English. He often lets the class out very early. He cares a lot about his students. He also gives a lot of time to do assignments and there's really no homework except essays. The only thing that I did not like is that he did not give feedback on essays. I would take him again.
Lectures are interesting. He is funny but you HAVE to take notes on his lectures. Quizzes are random and over content talked about in class. If you miss class, there's a chance you missed a quiz. Midterm, Final, and final essay are the only big assignments. Overall, great professor, but you need to attend lectures.
Professor McWaters makes it easy to get an A as long as you attend lectures most of the time and do your work on time. The class consists of 4 essays and some in class work, so it's not super time consuming. He also doesn't make you do unnecessary work which is nice. Take him for EN 102.
If you want an easy A, with minimal effort, all you have to do is go to class and make him feel important. He'll tell you that you attendance isn't mandatory but he gets offended if you miss class and will grade your essays much harder. Just show up and act like you think he's cool.
Professor McWaters is a pretty cool guy. Beware he does occasionally say some offensive things. Random quizzes, but if you take notes on what he lectures about, you should be fine.
Although I'm an engineering major, McWaters made me wish I was an English major. He's a great lecturer with an eccentric, but interesting style. He grades easily and makes expectations clear. I enjoyed talking to him briefly after class about anything that was thought provoking regarding the meaning and purpose of life through literature.
Professor McWaters gives great lectures and makes the course materials very interesting/relatable. The only thing to note is that attendance quizzes are given randomly so be prepared to show up to every class, having read the material. Also, in my opinion, his midterm and final exam were extremely hard compared to our other assignments, so study!!
McWaters is an eccentric professor, but his lectures are engaging. Stay on top of the many pop quizzes, and the workload is manageable if you attend class and do the readings. unstuck AI helped me prep for the tough exams.
I thought he was a great teacher. His lectures were always very entertaining. He does occasionally touch on some topics that people may see as sensitive but from my perspective he came at it from a very broad point of view and didn't choose sides on issues. Quizzes are online and easy. HW is one page essay that's mostly a completion grade.
Genuinely one of my favorite professors that I have had. His lectures were always engaging- some due to the wild takes he had on various topics.Responses were simply getting them done, but be aware of when they are due because he likely won't remind you. Same thing for the quizzes. Definitely would take him again, great prof thru and thru.
Fun class with entertaining lectures. Exams can be tough but he has a lot of homework/quizzes to pad your grade. The most important thing is showing up and paying attention! His lectures do not follow his course notes, so there's no good way to find what you missed if you have to be out. Can be pretty strict, but he's not unreasonable.
EN 207 counted as my internation business course and lit credit. I would take again. Lectures are very entertaining. You can paint a bull to get extra credit.
MY FAVORITE PROFESSOR I HAVE HAD AT ALABAMA. He is truly amazing. His lectures are truly engaging and fun. They make you actually want to pay attention and learn. Over the semester, there are 10 quizzes and 10 responses, and a mid-term and final. The tests are online and not a lockdown browser. He has wild takes in class but makes for a great class
This professor is hilarious and very engaging. Makes class interesting and is very understanding. Exams are easy as long as you go to class.
This professor had great lectures! He was very engaging! The readings are super interesting. Stay on top of the readings. The tests were online.
McWaters is amazing. Took him on a whim to fulfill my english credit my senior year. I hate English, but he makes it SO much easier! Lot of reading that has to be done, but he covers it well in class if you aren't always on top of it. Random quizzes during the semester, but he gives most the answers in class. Pay attention and you will suceed!
One of my favorite professors I have had. He makes lecture so entertaining and he is so funny. While some topics may be controversial, but he represents both arguments very well, and it adds a lot of background to the works.
