I've had him for twice and both of those times, I've learned so much. English was one of those subjects for me that was one of my least. After taking him I love taking english he is helpfull, funny, oh yeah but take a sweater always because he likes the temperature cold in the room.

Scott is an odd duck. but a guy who will relate with you on a real level which was really cool. I liked him and his class, even though it was freezing ass cold in the room. he failed me, and i'm over it because i deserved it, but ya take him, english sucks, you mine as well have fun with it.

The greatest teacher EVER!He at his a bit challenging but he knows what he is doing and goes out his way to help you. Relates well as a person, very nice, you feel right at home in class...yes...I sound nerdy...I got a C but anyone could have gotten a higher grade. There is only ONE long paper which is like 6 pages. He was an okay teacher. his was class was pretty easy. not to many things to do just as long as you did the essay everthing was okay. but he would talk a little to much about himself.

I went into this class extremely apprehensive because I heard he was very difficult, and he is. But if you attend class and do the work there is no reason for you not to at least get a C (with minimal effort). He uses books that are not widely known but are very interesting. His midterms and finals aren't easy, if you study you'll do fine.

This is by far the best english teacher I've ever had. Mr. Memmer loves what he does and it truly shows. He is funny and very helpful. There were 3 essays, 1 was a research paper. I took Memmer for both 101 and a World Lit class a couple of semesters ago. Oh, how I wished he taught 102. Great teacher, sly sense of humor, passion for the material, and very dedicated to the advancement of the students. I've never seen anyone not get along with him. His coursework can become tedious, but he will help you become a better writer.

I have been out of school for quite some time, and Mr. Memmer made the transition easy for me! He was a great instructor and very structured, which is something I needed to stay focused. Scott Memmer is the BEST english teacher in the department. His passion for his subject is refreshing and invigorating. He really infuses his students with interest, and really follows through. Because he was so in love with what he was teaching I wasn't bored at all! He also offers plenty of extra help, for those of us who struggle with MLA.

This turned out to be my favorite class. At first I thought it was sort of going to be impossible as he scared us with the workload but as the class progressed it became a group dynamic of learning and enjoying literature. He has lots of passion and it ignites it in the student.

Mr. Memmer is a really laid back professor but if you don't listen to what he has to say you will not learn. He gives so much help and basically gives you all the layouts for any writing except the in class ones but other than that my advice is you came to learn just listen to what this amazing teacher has to say because if you don't you will fail.

Took his Honors course. Very good professor, grading is straight forward. Do not miss class! Very passionate about teaching and his work. Got a bit off topic at times but those deviations served as a good breather from the material. Overall a very interesting class with a very interesting professor.

This class isn't an easy class so take it seriously! For my class we had to read 5 plays (lots of reading required!) but they were all interesting! Follow instructions of the prompts, especially MLA citations! He gives extra credit here & there to help you get extra points. If you have questions, NEVER hesitate to ask him. This class was great, however if you are not into portfolios and seminar style lectures this class may not be for you. There will be 3 green book assignments, so do your best because they play a role in the portfolio final. Watch the videos, visit him in the office, write ahead, and success center is the best chance to take advantage of writing!

You do need the books. I took him over the summer (it was pass or no pass)& there was a total of three essays. I'm not sure if he still does this but in class he would have you get into groups & other students would read your paper, give you feed back then he'd personally call you up to discuss your paper. Also go to his office hours for more help

Mr. Memmer is honestly a pretty chill, fun, guy who cares for the students and the papers. He's very understanding and helps you if you are struggling. The class t first was really quit and boring but by the end every was cool with each-other. Personally, I really liked the group paper grading cause it was nice to see other peoples feed back.

I've been out of school for almost five years and as a returning student I was so pleased to have been part of his class. I knew that I wanted a professor that would push me and give me the right tools for English 101. Memmer will push you because he sincerely cares and he is always willing to help you with any questions you may have.

Professor Memmer cares about his students and will go out his way to help you with essays. He has patience and gives really good feedback on essay. Only way to fail is if you are lazy. He does require few books but he gets them from amazon only so they are cheap.

The level of difficulty is hard to judge. The assignments were reasonable. If you care about your grades than you will obviously put more effort into your work. Took Zoom only, very passionate Professor. You will have 2 big papers. Held phone conference (since it was zoom only) where you could met to get feedback on your work. Do that if you want to pass! Has lots of information and is super funny. With Zoom we had 3 discussions post but could be different F2F now. 3 textbooks requires very cheap tho. 5/5

I am so glad that I took Professor Memmers class. He cares about his students and helps you to actually learn. He does one on one phone conferences to help with any questions or hurdles and doesnt make you feel stupid for not already knowing. Makes you work for your grade but it is worth it in the end. My class was online. He gave 2 essays, a few discussions, no test and an option to have 10min phone conferences which he canceled maybe 4 weeks of classes to go over your essay and it's progress. Which helps a lot. He graded pretty fairly, but despises plagiarism. He sent those back for correction. Sit in the front, take notes, ask questions.

Great professor. Probably had classes like four or five times and the rest were phone calls to help with your essays. We had 2 essays and they were relatively easy. He has a sign up sheet so he can call you and help you with your essay. Sign up, it's worth it and you have a higher chance of getting a good grade. Super nice professor.

One of my favorite professors from last semester. He wants his students to succeed and is very passionate about English. The phone conferences were a huge benefit in asking questions about assignments and for help if needed. Take advantage of them, trust me they were very helpful! Only 2 major essays follow the criteria and you'll pass!

Great professor. We had two papers consisting of 7-8 pagesa few discussion posts. I took a DEd class, and he was terrific. Always communicated and allowed me to crash the zoom.

Easily the best English teacher that I’ve ever had!! I took him for all of my required English classes at AVC + ENGL235. If you just show up and do the little amount of work he assigns (in comparison to other teachers), you’re virtually guaranteed an A or a B. He really cares about his students and will go out of his way to help them if needed.

This class was pretty straightforward. The only grades we had were two MLA research papers and six or so discussions. If writing essays is your thing, you'll easily make an A. If it's not, then he's caring enough to give you advice and writing tips in office hours, and you'll still be able to make a high grade. I definitely recommend taking him!

Memmer was the best English professor I've had at AVC thus far. He is very approachable and offers many opportunities for students to get his feedback on their writing. Most of the assignments are easy As, other than the two big essays, which he will offer guidance on. Also fairly lenient on times and attendance; he isn't super uptight about it.

This professor is super cool and down to Earth. He's strict on format but he allows you to get creative in papers and even gives you time to work on them throughout class. Your grade is based on very limited amount of assignments so just do your work and you'll be fine. Besides he's super funny and wise. Not afraid to get real abt life.

Memmer was a professional editor before being a professor, so he grades like one. I recommend only taking his class if you're an English major just because it is not really worth the struggle of making sure your papers meet his standards when you could just take an easier class. He gives great feedback if you ask for it and has a lot of knowledge.

Professor Memmer has to be one of AVCs treasures. He is enthusiastic about his as well treats every class like family. I have had him twice for 100a and 102. If it was not for him, I would not be writing quality essays that are 10 pages long lol. Having him early helps get you prepared for future courses.

Prof Memmer is passionate about writing and literature. I took him for 101 and 102. He is caring, understanding and very good at his job. Not too much homework either! He will support you if you work. I always recommend his classes.

Required books in the course for essays. Awesome class with exciting details about being an English Professor and how a paper should look to the audience. Shows concerns for the person and not just a body filling a seat in class. Participation with the students for clarity on the subject and feedback about assignment to make you a greater you.

He was very fair. My grade did go up because I worked so hard. I had a stroke when I first got into college. Needless to say I was just very glad to see my grade at a C. It was hard getting a C, and Mr. Memmer was there to see me from English 95 on to English 102. Thank you Mr. Memmer.

amazing professor. passionate about teaching so classes are so enjoyable. cares for students. can be tough grader but only to push you to improve. 2 papers to do (first is 2000 words second 1500) and usually weekly discussions. need to purchase two novels (cheap) and writer's reference book. the best English teacher I've had

Memmer is very fun and helpful in learning good habits for better research and better writing. He'll meet you halfway if you show him that you actually care. His lectures were easy going and often gave time to complete assignments and offer feedback. Several small discussion assignments and very few actual essays (two 5 page essays). Overall great!

Scott is great. Really cares about his students and did a lot of workshops during class to work on our papers. He let me write about Five Nights at Freddy's for an academic paper, and I got an A on it. He's very good at picking out how to improve your papers and is honestly just great at conversation in general. He made me like English for once.

Eng 227-His class isn't hard if you keep up with and take notes on the assigned readings. He loves participation, so be prepared to participate! It only makes the lectures much more detailed and fun. Homework was pretty much just reading. His essays were pretty easy, and if you need any help, he will gladly sit down with you and help you!

Memmer is an outstanding professor! He is caring and truly wants to help his students succeed! He was by far my favorite teacher. Just make sure you use the correct books given, read instructions clearly and try your best! He even helped me with letters of recommendation for scholarships!

Professor Memmer is engaging and pushes you to grow as a writer. His class has manageable assignments, including a couple essays and discussions. Unstuckstudy AI was a helpful study tool for essay prep. Overall, a rewarding experience for improving your writing skills.

Great teacher! Assignments consist of discussions, short-essay quizzes, and 2 essays. He cares about the improvements on essays and provides a chance to fix a bad essay grade. Highly recommend.

This professor doesn't have many assignments so if you miss one or do poorly on one your grade can be hurt tremendously, pay attention and don't fall behind and you will do well. He gives quizzes which lead up to the final draft of the two essays due throughout the semester.

I had to retake English 101 because I failed the first time around. Professor Memmer may not be the fastest at grading but he is thorough and takes his time. He provides great feedback on essays and challenges you to become a better writer and think more critically.He is straightforward and has clear grading criteria.

Took eng102 and nearly everyone did terrible on the quizzes he gave out. offered xtra cred questions on them but didn't change the outcome of the class average. def can get an A if you study for the final and do well on the essays. don't miss class!! decided on a no grade cuz stem majors r recommended 103 anyways. so if ur a stem major don't do 102

This class was very easy and his teaching style is not hard to follow at all. There is never any homework besides the fact you should be working on your essays. More focused on your active reading and applying to the class. If you read the stories that were required and do the work, the class is very easy to pass.

The great thing about Professor Memmer is that he is always available and encourages you to visit him during office hours. I didn't do so well on quizzes, but my essays made up for it because I started them immediately, went to him consistently for critique and adjustments, and always turned in "A" papers. He wants to see you succeed!

I took Memmer for 101 and loved his class so much I took him again for 102. I used to hate English in highschool, but because of Memmer and his passion for teaching the subject, I have grown to really enjoy writing. Only 2 essays, couple discussions and an in-class open book essay. Class is really fun and he wants everyone to succeed and pass

I had Mr. Memmer for Eng 101 and 102. He's incredible! He's very passionate about what he does and it shows! There's only 2 essays the entire course, which is really nice. He grades fairly and also encourages you to ask him for feedback. Amazing teacher!!!
