Dr. Parkinson is the best professor I have had. He is so easy to talk to and ask for help. His test questions directly follow the lecture outline, just go to class and follow along and you'll get an A. If you ever need help with anything just ask him, he is not intimidating at all. He gives 3 attendance points a day but I never dreaded his class.
The lectures are a lot of information but you get booklets to help you follow and study guides before each test that have the exact questions and answers. If you show up, take notes, and do the study guides you will pass with no problem.
He was very rude when you did have questions and would stop the class anytime someone needed to leave. He would then yell after them and make rude comments to the individuals as they left. Lectures were very long and boring, he often gets off topic.
I highly advise taking HIST150 with him. His lectures are long & kind of boring but make sure to pay attention & take very good notes. He gives open note quizzes so you'll want good notes. His tests are easy if you fill out & memorize his study guides. The study guides are exact questions from the tests. Just put in some effort & you'll do well!
He wasn't too bad. His lectures were pretty boring. He gives a lecture outline notebook, so not much note taking, but still some. The study guides are pretty straight forward, but the tests are still hard. The assignments are easy and you basically don't have to do the reading. Get the online book, it makes it easier to find the answers.
Demanded respect without giving any to his students, doesn't allow laptops in a lecture hall of almost 200 students, takes attendance, and openly calls out students on their phones/laptops or who leave early. Lectures are boring and his voice will put you to sleep. Wasn't horribly hard class but I hated every second of it.
I think this class is difficult, but not impossible. Dr. Parkinson's lectures are very long and exhausting at times, but he throws in a joke every now and then. He's approachable if you have any questions and he knows what he's talking about. Tests can be difficult, but if you fill out the study guides you should get at least a C.
Dr. Parkinson is clearly passionate about history, but the class is incredibly boring. He drones on and on and on and it can be incredibly challenging to attend class. His study guides for tests are so vague and the tests are very specific, so beware. Prepare to attend every class or expect bad grades on tests.
I took HIST202 online and it was fairly easy. I spent about an hour and a half each week on this class. Exams were pretty easy if you use the study guide provided. DEFINITELY buy the book.
Honestly, this was one of the easiest classes I took my freshmen year. The study guide matches the exams and the study guide is easy to do if you come to class. There was like three writing homework and they were easy too.
Clear and loud guy
I retook Hist 150 with Parkinson and it was the most exciting class I had this semester. His lectures are really in depth and the smallest things are on the tests, but if you come to class, actually take notes and not just write the answers to his questions, you'll be fine. He's sarcastic and rude, but he knows his stuff and the class isn't bad.
Super easy class. Parkinson provided lecture outlines for every class which makes note taking easy. The tests are not too hard if you study for them. Very little homework. Definitely recommend!
If you're going to take Hist 150, do it with Parkinson. He gives great lectures, it was like watching the history channel. He also assigns very little homework, I think there were only 5 assignments the whole semester. Other than that there are quizzes that you can use your notes with and exams with questions straight off of a study guide he gives.
You have to go to lecture to pass this class. He does not send notes out and if you do not a professor lecturing the entire class do not take this professor. He is very smart and know what he is talking about but you need to study a lot to do well.
History is history, and if it doesn't come naturally it is going to be hard no matter the teacher. Dr. Parkinson loves history and you can tell. Obvi the class is lecture heavy, that's all it is. I put that it is test heavy, but really there are only 4 test. However, those are your highest grades. 4 test. 4 quizzes. 4 hw assignments.
Class is entirely lecture-based. It usually is not very interesting, but if you follow through his outline and literally fill in the blanks, you have no reason to fail his class. Study guides and the outlines will be your path to success here. He is also does not empathize for people who skip, fail, or those that do not take the tests on time.
Great Prof! Lectures are very informative. All exams are on Quizlet. If you study, you pass the tests.
Definitely lecture heavy, but provides outlines that are EXTREMELY helpful. Important information necessary for test questions are repeated, so better take note if said more than once. Willing to help and answer questions. History is not my best subject, but he teaches in a way that I still had a good grade. Would definitely choose prof. again.
He is kind of sarcastic but if you come to class and do your work he is fine. He gives clear instructions and basically tells you what will be on the test. Only 3 assignments for the whole semester. And does give extra credit. You HAVE to go to class or else you will fail because he doesn't post lectures.
Test are tough, lectures entire class period. Must take notes or you will be screwed.
Dr. Parkinson was by far my favorite professor this semester. His class is lecture heavy, however, he provides you with an outline to follow the lectures. He also provides a ton of extra credit and study guides for the tests. He tries to make this class as enjoyable as possible. would take his class again
Parkinson honestly is a pretty good professor. As a history student, I look for any class he offers. He's well versed in his topics, flexible, and gives a good response to any help needed. Anyone who says his classes are difficult just don't pay attention, as you don't need to study to pass his classes. Just pay attention and go to class. Not hard.
He's super nice, he just really likes to lecture. If you pay attention and take good notes you'll be all good. Passed all his tests with very little studying.
I enjoy History and I think that's why I enjoyed this class. He is very lecture heavy so if you're looking to always leave class early this isn't the class for you. As long as you follow his lecture outline and fill it out during class you'll be totally fine. Super nice guy and is always willing to answer any questions you have.
Really good professor. The only reason why there was so much work was because it was an online class, which is something he explained at the start of the semester. He doesn't take long to grade assignments, the assignments aren't very difficult, and he always gave really helpful feedback. Would definitely recommend
Even though I only had him for an online class, he was really good. There's a lot of work involved but as explains at the start of the semester is due to it being an online class. The assignments and exams aren't difficult so long as you actually take the time to do them. And it's also really easy to get ahead on work and do well in the class
Long lectures, must somewhat pay attention
attendance not graded but he literally gives the exact questions/answers so why not go? super easy and he's a nice guy. quizzes after each chapter that are on your own. exams cover 3 chapters - super easy since he gives the study guides with exact questions. gives random curves. 3 assignments that are really easy
He said attendance didn't matter, but at the end of the year put in 50 points for participation so everyone not showing up got screwed. Grading was SO subjective, didn't use a rubric for projects, yet was a very tough grader. Rude to his students. I would not take this class with him. Was off .4% from the next letter grade and wouldn't round it
attendance is 60 points. Tests are book question heavy. lectures are pretty boring but gives you lecture notes to fill out during it (test questions are straight from lecture notes), if you study the lecture notes you will be fine. chapter quizzes after each chapter (10 question, 8 minutes) not that difficult straight from notes
Can be really rude and non-helpful. I disliked his attitude most of the time and he often talked down to students. Not fun and his lectures were sooooo boring
Tests are pretty easy as long as you go to class because he tells you all of the answers that could be on the tests and gives you study guides that he answers in the class.
Going to class is mandatory to receive notes from the lecture and attendance is added at the end of the semester. As long as you show up and fill in outline you will be fine. Tests are easy and based on the outline he provides. Few assignments outside of class.
Very easy class, but my attend. He gives you outlines with all the questions on the test so just make a quizlet. He has you do easy homework, but it is just time consuming. Would take his class again.
Get ready to read! You need the textbook for this class. You will have an essay every week. You will also have quizzes every week, and if you do the study guide, you will pass. All tests are based on the study guide. The essay is based on the topic in the book. He gives feedback on all papers.
Dr. Parkinson's class is pretty easy as long as you show up every day. He gives outlines on Canvas with bolded questions scattered throughout that he gives the answers to in class. The test is mostly made up of these questions. The class is a little dull, but Dr. Parkinson tries to make it interesting.
Scott is the man you want to take History 150 with. His lectures are clear and to the point, he gives you ALL of the answers are the study guides/exams, and he is very funny.
Attendance is mandatory. He gives outlines for his lectures which are fill in the blank/ follow along with his powerpoint. If you don't show up you better have a friend to give you the outline answers of what you missed. the tests are basically all from the outline. You need to study for them. He is a GREAT PROFESSOR. he KNOWS what he's talkin bout
He is a great professor, fair, and caring for his students. I have had him for 3 history classes and I highly suggest his online courses because they are not overwhelming and do not include pointless online discussion posts. Get on his good side and know Chicago Citations! Don't stress too much because he grades pretty nicely for good effort.
Professor Parkinson is a good choice for HIST150. All of his classes are lectures but he tries to make them interesting and you can tell he's passionate. Pay attention and he gives you the answers to the exams during his lectures so just study the questions he gives you.
The homework in this class was annoying, but I heard he changed it. The tests were questions directly taken from the notes. Must go to class to get the notes, but overall an easy class and would take it again.
He makes the lectures entertaining
This guy rocks! His lectures are so clear and the outlines he provides are extremely helpful!! 10/10 would recommend.
He covers the material very well and sets you up for success as long you attend class.
You will want to show up for every class. I cannot reiterate if you just show up and take notes it is the easiest class ever. He does a good job of talking about the important parts of the quizzes. It literally is just show up and take good notes, you get an A.
Just show up its not that hard show up and take notes
Great teacher to do lectures over history. Learned a lot.
He is a fine professor. His teaching style just isn't for me. He keeps his expectations clear and his lectures are directly related to the quizzes. The lectures are a bit boring and white washed though. As long as you go to the lectures, take notes, and try a little with the book, you're guaranteed to pass the class.
Goes on mini rants that have nothing to do with the material. Grades essays harshly!!!
I would recommend taking this class with Parkinson. Attendance is mandatory. Taking notes in class is a lifesaver, and they match up with the quizzes/essays. I felt that I learned a lot through his lectures, and I recommend taking his courses.
Preached to us more than he taught. Get ready for alot of pointless hours spent in class.
Spends the first quarter talking about quizzes for the first fifteen minutes of class. everyday feels like syllabus day. also spends a good chunk of the beginning of class talking to the football players like a high school history teacher. ignores when men walk into class late, brings attention to women walking in late. teaches religion as fact.
I have never once liked a history class but Parkinson keeps the class entertaining. There are quizzes after every lecture which can be challenging at time, but if you take them with a group, it's a lot easier. The lectures can be a lot at times, just be ready to type fast. He gives an outline to help you stay focused on the important topics.
Your notes for the lectures are what comes out of his mouth. His quizzes are hard and has very few assignments.
Prof. Parkinson is a great lecturer and makes HIST150 very "palatable." There are 12, 20 question quizzes throughout the semester that are open note, and no final! Important to go to the lectures because the answers for the quizzes are in his lectures!! Cannot recommend Prof. Parkinson enough for HIST150!
Parkinson's class was easy to follow even without the outline he provided to the students. Everything he talks about during lectures are either in the notes or in the textbooks. He doesn't give extra credit but if you go to classes and he sees that you're turning in assignments he might round up your grade to the nearest letter grade.
Lectures were actually pretty interesting to listen to. However, quizzes were difficult if you weren't completely paying attention. As long as you try on the essay and writing assignments, you'll get a decent grade.
This professor has very little work besides quizzes which are pretty difficult. Everything comes from his lectures so zoning out for a bit very much hurts you. He also never gives rubrics for essays, so you never know what to write about so it's a hit or miss whether you do good.
This class was very easy and straightforward. You did a 1200 word essay each week and book review. The papers had you follow questions that you answered with the textbook. If you went over word limit you received a good grade. I would take a class like this again.
This guy is just meh. His class is fairly easy just don't mess up this chapter quizzes and you'll pass. But man his personality sucks... He pesters the athletes every class and then proceeds to give the most boring lecture I've ever heard. This dude is in his 70's and is waiting for Ball State to stop hiring him back.
The class is extremely lecture heavy, you will be given an outline to fill out during his lectures and if you don't take down almost every piece of information he says, you won't pass the almost weekly quizzes he assigns. there are no exams, just random homework assignments and the quizzes. He takes attendance but you are not graded for it.
There is no structure to this class at all. No rubrics, no textbook, just a man talking for 75 minutes from a PowerPoint slide. The quizzes don't correlate to the outline at all, the writing assignments never have rubrics, so you never actually never know what the grading is based on. It's almost as if his goal is to tank the GPAs of his students.
He isn't that bad of a professor but he is very rude at times, there is a lot of lectures that you will have to take notes or you won't get specific thing right on the weekly quiz, They are easy if you do the notes or pay attention, his third to last righting assignment is very tough and not described correctly and clearly.
Scott Parkinson is a rough around the edges/ no nonsense kind of guy. He's a bit of a grumpy grandpa, but he is knowledgeable about his course and he does not use a textbook so there is little to no reading. So all you as a student consistently have to do is show up to class and pay attention. He isn't a lot but he does his job well.
The class isn't bad just wouldn't take it again. He lectures the whole time so if you zone out and miss information you are not going to do great on the quiz. He also reads off lecture to follow along but doesn't post the actual slides he reads in class You don't get extra credit and you have 3-4 writing assignments and thats it; no final exam.
Every class is a lecture and every lecture has a quiz. It is clear what will be on the quiz but if you zone out or miss a day you will miss material that will definitely be on the quiz. Grade is based on quizzes and a few random assignments. The lectures can get a little boring at times but overall aren't bad.
All you have to do is show up to every class and write down notes for the quizzes. Each quiz has 20 or so questions and all are multiple-choice. No midterm or final and no textbook. Attendance matters but if you're missing class you're missing good notes.
Dr. Parkinson was a tough grader but it made me a better writer. He gives good feedback and can come across as tough but he is nice and wants you to do well. This was an online course, so we were only graded on 12 writing assignments and a book review for our final. If you write more than expected on the papers, he will give you a better grade!
He gives you outlines for his lectures, which are very boring. His unit quizzes are 50/50 on what the questions will be. Some are harder than others it felt like. He also has no rubrics for his writing assignments, which is made VERY clear, then gets angry when no one writes what he wants. Easy class with a monotone professor.
He will give you an outline for the lectures that will have most of what you need for the quizzes. The lectures are pretty boring though. Also he passed around an attendance sheet that you had to sign.
He gives lecture outlines, most of the material in his quizzes aren't on the outline but said during lectures. He is a pretty easy grader and is understanding if you have to miss a class.
Honestly couldn't stand the lectures/classes, seemed a little uptight about things, and just didn't appreciate the way he talked to the class as if we knew nothing... made it seem like almost all questions were wasting time or silly.
I had Dr. Parkinson for a previous class and he was tough, but this class was even harder than the other. His grading is tough and he expects a lot from your papers. For this class, which was online, we had to read like 200 pages and write two papers, answering 14 questions per paper. Only had five assignments though. A lot for a summer course.
This was such an easy class. All information needed to pass the exams are given during lectures. No out of class reading outside of maybe two assignments. He is long winded but for an easy class its managable.
Scott Parkinson is a bad professor he just reads off the slides everyday but will slip in a couple comments or facts that if you don't write them down you won't pass his quizzes. He is incredibly boring, and honestly rude. Do not recommend, take this class with anyone else.
Personally, I wouldn't say I liked the way this class was taught. It was extremely lecture-heavy with a quiz after every unit. the class was just super boring with little opportunity to participate. attendance is taken every class so you are forced to sit through boring lectures 2 times a week.
Quizzes are a bit hard so you have to make sure you're reading/taking notes. Reading the textbook isn't mandatory. Will sometimes tell you what's important and if it'll be on the test. Could be really rude sometimes. Attendance is mandatory. You get 2 skips, anything more than that you get points deducted.
One of my favorite professors. Attendance is mandatory and very note-heavy. Be prepared to come into class and take a lot of notes. He doesn't post his slides online, and there is a quiz after every unit. I suggest you don't miss class. If you're someone who isn't good with notes or struggles to attend class, I wouldn't recommend him.
I wouldn't say I liked the way this class was taught. It was extremely lecture-heavy, with a quiz after every unit. The class was just super boring, with little opportunity to participate. Attendance is taken every class, so you are forced to sit through boring lectures two times a week.
If you show up and take notes following the outline he provides, it's an easy A+ on every quiz. I found him very entertaining, especially with his dry humor when responding to students in class. If you're overly sensitive or plan to skip class often, I'd recommend taking another course.
An incredibly rude professor.
Test heavy just means there is only lecture/unit tests. That's it, nothing else but maybe one other project. Chill guy, likes what he does. Honestly cares too much about people dipping partly through class, if they fail that's their problem.
There are weekly assignments, but they are all multiple choice and pretty simple to complete. Outside of this there were maybe 2 assignments that can pe completed relatively quickly. I attended 4 lectures and passed the class with a C because of it, so if you want a good grade attendance is mandatory.
If you have his class Tuesday/Thursday it will definitely be long and drag, but sometimes he'll let you go early. I liked his way of teaching - very passionate. Super strict about attendance and paying attention. I would show up and take notes and show that you're paying attention and it'll be fine. Honestly, learned a lot of history I didnt know.
His class is very lecture focused with little to no room for discussion or questions. He is honestly kind of rude if you do end up having a question. No homework except two big assignments at the middle and end of semester. If he has a question about the essay you write, he will give you a 0 and then not respond for two days. Would NOT recommend
This class is pretty simple. Just attend class, take light notes, and do the few writing assignments that are provided (which are easy). The only people who fail this class are the people who do nothing and don't attend. Parkinson is super chill, and if you communicate well with him, there won't be any issues.
Parkinson used textbooks but you didn't need it to get through the class. I had a pdf version that I found free that I used one time the whole semester and probably would've been okay without. If I had to take another history class I wouldn't mind taking it with him. Overall, coming from someone with no interest in history, he made it interesting.
He was fine. I am a relatively strong student, and I struggled on his quizzes. You only get one unexcused day. I probably wouldn't take him again just because I really don't care about history and he expects everyone to be as passionate as he is for this required class. This was my lowest grade, and it wasn't even for my major.
Honestly just pretty rude and acts like he hates you over email. Always seems like he's in a bad mood. Attendance is most the points, but the class is boring, and its history, and he expects everyone to show up to every class. Quizzes are easy, projects are easy, the only reason I got a B was because I barely showed up to class.
