Scottie P. is the man! He is more than willing to help you in any way he can. He is a little shy at first but once you get to know him he is so great. His tests are pretty straight forward and he is great with partial credit. If you show him you try hard to learn the material he will go above and beyond to help you. I would definitely recommend him
He is without a doubt the best professor I had throughout my freshman year. He is funny and a real laid back guy. Calc 2 is hard but he teaches it well.
Excellent professor. My personal favorite at WCU. Tough material but he explains it well, and is more than willing to help in office hours. Highly recommended.
Truly an enigma that there is a professor of this caliber that teaches undergrads at our university. Behind the mild shyness and extreme modesty is the most genuine college professor I've ever had, who is more than willing to take time out of his lecture to reiterate points or discuss special topics. Tests are fair; very conscientious grader.
Dr. Parsell is really helpful. I probably went to his office everyday for help with homework, and he'll help every single time. Don't buy the textbook for Calc 1, everything is online and he uses worksheets at evey class that are more helpful than any book you'll get.
Parell is a great teacher. The class is easy if you attend classes and review your work. Homeworks are all online and you get unlimited tries for the questions. I had him for Calc 1 and am currently taking Calc 2 with Parsell. Take him, he's very helpful and will stop class to explain concepts that studentsdo not understand.
Goes out of his way to help you. Even had office hours on Saturday before a test and final! WHAT OTHER PROF at WCU does that? Answer: nobody. Knows his material too. His humor is also underrated. Glad I took the course with him.
Excellent teacher. He graduated from MIT and Michigan so of course he's brilliant. He is very modest and kind and is always willing to clarify any topic. His notes are so clear that the book is not needed. Take advantage of his instruction because you will leave his class with a greater interest in math.
BEST TEACHER AT WCU! Truly loves math and teaching. He will do anything to help a student out, even make office hours at starbuck. I wish he taught all my future math courses because he is really THE BEST.
This guy is great...Really funny and understands the students... His practice exams really help out as the tests are almost the exact same. Also he will do just about anything to make you understand the material more, like office hours on a weekend at Starbucks. Taking him again in the fall.
He is an awesome guy and teacher. He is difficult in my opinion. Half the kids in my class failed the final, and of the other half, most were D's. He doesn't curve or give extra creadit. However, he is willing to help you!
Parsell is great - his practice tests help SO much. His teaching is straight forward and he'll explain things again and again if you don't understand. I didn't think getting an A in calc 2 was possible, but with him, I did it easily.
Parsell is the best professor I have ever had. He is extremely helpful and clear, and makes it easy for students to understand the material. You will have to put in the time on homework and practice exams to succeed, but he is always there to help.
He is the best math teacher I ever had. The material is challenging, but calculus is hard. He explains concepts clearly and always answers questions. Your grade is based on homework, weekly quizzes, 3 tests, and a final. He gives us a practice test before each exam, and they are very helpful and just like the test. Best calc. prof at WCU
Cool guy, hard class. I took this in the summertime, maybe that was my mistake. I would recommend the teacher but not for this particular class. For me I needed someone to explain it a little better. Half of those things i have never seen before in my life.
Literally the best choice when picking a Calc professor. He has high expectations but he helps you meet them. Study hard, ALWAYS DO THE HOMEWORK, and visit his office hours.
He's a great professor. If you miss a class, you do fall behind though, but he is always there during his office hours and willing to meet at other times too. He gives very clear examples on what the material is, there are no surprises ever.
Scotty P is awesome. He's kind of awkward but so funny. There's one homework assignment due every week, and they're all easy to get 100 on. You definitely want to have someone in the class to go to for help. It's a bit challenging, but doable if you go to every class and take good notes. Not many tests but they're fairly difficult.
Scott Parsell is the greatest man to walk the earth. His lectures and teaching style are direct and straightforward. Course material is not simple, but he makes it easy. There are no surprises on tests - they are made from homework. He has a fantastic sense of humor - if you don't laugh at him, you may want to check if you have a soul.
He is an awesome teacher!! He jokes all the time and comes to class in snapbacks and sandals. He really knows what he's talking about and if you get it you will ace the tests. Do all the homework and worksheets and it will really help your grade. He is honestly one of the best teachers at WCU.
Worst math professor ever! Don't take him if you don't have to. He doesn't explain topics that good I had to go to my tutor and basically ask him to teach me everything. He is a hard grader and takes points off for stupid little mistakes and keeps taking them off whenever you used the wrong number again. His lectures are very boring.
I had Scotty P for Calc 2 & 3 last year. He is the greatest teacher I've had at WCU. I went to his office hours basically all the time and he was so helpful. He's so attractive, but he has a wife and kid so don't flirt with him. He's awkward but its adorable!
Tough to pay attention to sometimes but, overall, pretty easy class and kept it as interesting as math could possibly be. Gets boring regardless of the professor teaching it. I would say that Scotty P is a professor to consider.
Scotty P is a really chill guy, very approachable. The class itself is a difficult subject but he goes through the material in a way that makes it understandable. If you have questions GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS, he's always willing to help. Also, exams are hard if you don't understand the material or look at the previous exams he provides access to.
I loved every minute of class... or as much as you can in clac 2. He is always open to help and there is a ton of practice problems available. You need to capitalize on these opportunities if you want to get an A. But I have taken him for all my math classes so far (4) and I enjoied every minute. He takes an 8 am math class and makes it bearable.
Scotty P is the best! I had him for Calc 1 and Calc 2 and currently taking him for 2 more classes. He teaches mostly through examples. He makes the best of a slightly boring class and he's hilarious. Take advantage of his office hours, he's easy to talk to and always there to help. His tests are tough but he's definitely worth taking!
Scotty P tries to make math as exciting as possible because he knows most people don't enjoy it. He's very easy to talk to.
Great professor, very straight forward class. He is helpful in office hours especially for strange webwork problems. You do need to be math inclined to do well without dedicating too much time. Overall would take again.
Grading was extremely clear cut and worked well. Homework you go over and a short quiz weekly. He does try to make the information interesting, but he can be a bit of a jerk the way he speaks sometimes. If students didn't understand right away he got frustrated and almost seemed to put them down. But overall good way to check off math.
Scotty P is the man! By far one of the best professors at WCU. Calculus is a tough class as it is, but scotty p makes it manageable. If you are willing to give it your all, you will do really well in the class. Weekly online homework assignments and 3 tests plus a final. Tests are tough but he posts similar tests from past years which help a lot.
Scotty P is the man. He's the best. He knows the material and loves it which makes you want to know it too. Get ready for lots of bowl- and bell-shaped volumes of revolution. FIND A TUTOR. He is helpful in office hours as well. Comes to class wearing backwards hats and eats his breakfast in 8am. You can eat in class and he's super chill-awesome guy
Scotty P is the best math professor I have had. He does a great job making the material more understandable. He teaches mostly through examples with isn't always a good thing, but he will model the quizzes and tests after those examples he gives in class. Great professor.
Scotty P is the man. I took him for calc 1 & 2 and wish I was taking him again for 3. He is extremely clear in his explanations and even makes lectures not so bad to sit through. He usually gives 3 tests and a final but as long as you do the webwork and textbook problems you will be fine for the exams. I highly recommend him if you get the chance
Scotty P was an awesome professor. The class was challenging, but definitely possible and easy to get a good grade assuming you care enough to put the time in. The grading is super fair. 3 major tests. 100% would take Scotty P again for how solid of a prof he was.
Just don't take unless you're great at Math, didn't have a good semester with him at all.
Scotty P is hilarious! He's cool and hip with the kids or whatever but he also knows his stuff with math and teaching. Calculus is difficult no matter who teaches it, and he's a solid choice. His lectures are great- he explains stuff nicely and knows who he's teaching.
Took Calc 2 during summer session and I'm really glad I had him as a professor. I'm not very good at math but he explained everything super clearly and made all expectations clear. Provided us with many resources and practice problems to prepare for exams.
Fantastic!
Scotty P teaches the content well but then the test and homework are WAY harder than anything done in class. The problems on the test are worth a lot of points so if you get one wrong you're already at a B. I never used the textbook but you need to get it for the access code. Homework on MyMathLab due every week.
I failed linear algebra the first time I took it; the professor was unclear and taught according to a lot of previous knowledge from courses that were not prerequisites. Scotty P taught VERY clearly. He was very prepared and taught in an organized manor. Not to mention that he is just a funny man (Bro tank Fridays and hilarious side comments)
Scotty gives you homework to supplement your test grades which helps and he gives practice tests before the actual exam and they are usually pretty similar. You have to show him that you try and want to understand this stuff, even if it is just a requirement. Go to class, do the hw, practice problems on your own, ask questions and you will succeed.
I enjoyed Professor Parsell. I would ignore the remarks!
Scotty P is the GOAT when it comes to professors! Funny lectures, realistic real-world examples for practice problems, and an endless supply of 420 jokes are all in store if you choose Scotty as your professor. Tests are just like practice problems. Do the homework and class work to easily boost your grade and you should have an awesome semester.
Business Calc is obviously going to be difficult but Scotty made this enjoyable. He teaches the material well and the weekly homework and class participation offer a nice grade boost. (My grade before the final is 6% higher than my test Average. Also a funny, relocatable guy full of swag (bro tanks) and endless 420 jokes.
Love Scotty P as a person and he is a good teacher. I am not the best at calc and I wish i got more explanations on how to do certain problems. He knows what he is talking about though and is a very smart guy. I am scared for the final since people are bombing it worse than Pearl Harbor.
Scotty P is the man. Easily to relate to and makes tons of 420 jokes to keep the class interesting. Tests are easy, gives you a review that is very similar. Only thing that sucks is that 2/3 of test is multiple choice worth like 4 points each with no partial credit. Other than that, know how to do the problems on the review and youll be good
genuinely the coolest professor at west chester. encourages casualness. i failed calc before taking this class and he made it a piece of cake just by how well he breaks it down.
Scotty P! One of the coolest professor's i've had! he made linear Algebra so much fun!
Mr. P is an aweosme guy. Theres no textbook or attendance, he gives us answers to all hw, classwork, and even tests from the previous year as a study guide. He gives us everything they need for an A, but unfortunately too many people take advantage of him and dont put in even the bare minimum effort it takes to do well. Highly rec. !!!!
Scotty P is the bomb! He explains everything so well in class that I don't need to reference the textbook. He also gives you his "bro tips" which are like techniques or things to look out for. He is super chill and nice. His tests are just like the practice exams he posts. If you do the homework and the practice exams, you'll be good!
Scotty P is the man. Endless 420 jokes, funny dude. As long as you do what is asked of you, and study, you should be able to pass this class. Super chill, laid back. No textbook as he creates everything himself. Would recommend.
I had to drop his class after receiving no help in office hours. I found his jokes not amusing and kind of annoying. I also feel like he did not explain things well enough to the class. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Breaks down material & makes it easy to follow. Friendly. Can be too informal at times, its as if hes trying hard to be "hip," & swears from time to time. I dont know why people hype him up as the best, he is a bit off and the Dept should reevaluate his professional character. Gives great resources, but youll have to study bc calc II is very hard.
Dr. Parsell (Scotty P) is an excellent professor. Yes, he makes a lot of jokes but what's wrong with making a difficult subject such as Calculus II a bit funnier? His homework helps for the quizzes and the tests. He also helps a lot during his office hours, you just have to practice on your own time as well since Calc II can be difficult.#Tankszn
I love Professor P. He's a chill guy and definitely knows how to teach this subject well. I had some issues this semester and had to miss an exam, but he was understanding and let me make it up. For an 8am, he won't bore you to death. You'll pass the class with a good grade as long as you don't slack and keep up with your end of work and studying(:
Very laid back. Gives you example exams and goes over a worksheet covering the material before every quiz. Gives real world examples, which helped a lot.
He's accessible outside of class. He's funny.
Testbook was online so now need to buy it. He is very funny, but personally didn't find him that good of a teacher. He's very chill and nice, but his lectures can get kinda boring especially if you already know the material. Swears, and wears a lot of tanks.
Scotty P is probably the best professor at WCU. He's the most laid back, most chill, and the funniest person at this university. He is a great teacher and breaks down concepts to make them easier to understand. I look forward to going to class each day.
I have withdrawn from this class several times because of a severe math phobia. I got really lucky to get ScottyP in my final semester. I would have commited to a math minor if he could have been the prof. He gives you everything you need to succeed and it's obvious how sincerely he cares about the students and their success. Top 3 prof in 120cred
Professer Parsell is one of the best professors I've ever had. I was so nervous to take Calc, but he made it a breeze. He's hilarious and makes calc enjoyable. I would take him again for sure. Just study the material, and you'll do really well
Scotty P is very helpful if you're struggling in the class or just have a question in general. He has "bro tips" which are very helpful. He tries to relate to you but is pretty outdated but he's very nice. He gives a lot of assignments but if you fail a couple it won't affect your grade. Makes a lot of 420 jokes. Obsessed with his "bro tanks".
Scotty P is awesome. I have never understood or enjoyed math before this class. He lays everything out in a super organized way. Opt out of the textbook; you definitely won't need it. As long as you look at the lecture notes and put in a little effort, you'll be fine. Don't pass up your chance to take this class!
At first I thought he was great until the class stopped being a review and got difficult. His class was 2 days a week and I have assignments due everyday and if you miss one assignment and he closes it he will not reopen it. Also if you email him more than once worried about your grade he will flat out ignore you. Do not recommend taking his class.
Scotty is the man! I am not very strong mathematically but Scotty is an incredible teacher. the class is a breeze if you watch the lectures and attend meetings. Anyone that gives him a bad rating clearly put forth no effort in his class. Wish I could of taken him for every math class! A quality gentleman and scholar.
Professor Scotty is awesome! I failed this class last semester and am so happy I got Scotty this year. He explains material so well and really wants everyone to succeed. I wish I had him last semester cause it would have saved me time and I wouldn't have had to retake it. I am not gifted mathematically but I was able to understand with Scotty!
Take any bad reviews about Dr. Parsell with a grain of salt. He explains calculus in a way that those who are not mathematically-inclined can understand. If you put in effort, you will end up doing well in this course. Exams are extremely straightforward. The students who did poorly were the ones who didn't put in effort. Plain and simple.
He is such a good professor! Hed be even better in person but he truly helps you understand anything that is confusing.
Let me start this off by saying Scotty P is a great professor who doesn't "take points off for no reason". The professor is always available to help and provides good in-class instruction. That being said, you really have to work for your grade. The class is test heavy and those who do poorly simply did not prepare enough. Scotty P is the goat.
I was actually able to understand calc 2! His lectures are straight forward, as well as the hw and tests. He gives practice exams which are great tools, has plenty of office hour time if you need help. Engage in class and copy the board. Hes super nice, and I would definitely take again if I had more math classes!
Scott Parcell is a great guy but his lectures in class don't always work great with hw and he spends to much time going over conceptual ideas of the topic rather than how to prepare for exams. He provides practice exams, however; these tend to be very hard to follow because he skips various algebraic steps which makes it hard to do well.
Scott P is a great professor with a strong passion for math and a good sense of humor. Paying attention in class is not enough to pass but if you do the homework and practice problems youll have no problem. The tests will be problems youve done before so keep really good notes. Super nice guy
Scott had been good at explaining concepts, He has been very good at teaching you the material. His exams really are tough but if you do the homework on your own, practice exams, and pay attention in class, you could get a decent grade.
Scotty P is great at explaining concepts and offers extra credit and participation credit if you don't do well on any of the tests. He is a super chill guy and you can even just have a casual conversation with him. Calc II is a challenging course but if you utilize all the resources you will do well. I would definitely take him again in the future!
The chorus is setup extremely well. The combination of online video tutorials with the inclass instructions has been the most value for your money. If you're an adult learner, this class is definitely the one to take. The hybrid structure of study resources will give you the necessary flexibility to maximize your allocated study time.
I took Dr. Parsell's Summer 1 Calc 1 course and it was great! He was super nice and lenient, homework was always given 2 days to be completed, and tests were pretty easy. His lectures were clear and thorough and he always gave breaks in between lessons. There were also many resources for practice such as supplemental problems and practice exams.
I've taken Scotty P for two different classes now and he is a fantastic professor to take if you need to do the Calculus sequence. His classes are by no means easy, but his clear lectures and abundance of resources make getting a good grade attainable. You'll appreciate him by the time the class is over.
This prof was overrated and i was very upset i was recommended him. He does NOT do well on preparing you for exams, goes over material way to fast in class, gives an insane amount of HW. inconsiderate and seems a bit sexist to me. Don't be fooled by his friendliness. His emails are so unprofessional and very passive aggressive. others agree!
Scott Parsell ("Scotty") was a pleasure to have! He is funny, easy-going, and easy to reach outside of class. While he does not curve, he does provide lots of opportunities for grades to be improved upon; they're not all dependent on tests. You can and will succeed in the class IF and ONLY IF you try to.
I'll start by saying that the bad reviews on here seem to be because the classes scotty p teaches are math courses and many people struggle with math. That being said, if you consider yourself good with math, you'll do great. Scotty P is fun, he makes a bunch of jokes and provides lots of practice material. I hope to have him again in the future.
I'm awful at math, but Scotty broke down concepts in a manner that made them both fun and easy to learn. The class was a bit fast-paced, but it was definitely possible to reach out for help when you needed it. His exams also didn't decide whether you passed or failed -- he assigned plenty of homework that could very easily bring your grade up.
overall just really good vibes. he gives some simple extra credit opportunities. gives you like 2-3 free skips on attendance. he uploads the examples/teaching online after class, the exams were multiple choice. if you need help, just ask him, he's super nice and helpful
Had Scotty P last semester and he was amazing. You do need to show up to class though or else you will be lost and confused. He is very engaging with his students and is a very good teacher, he's also funny. Definitely take his class if you're looking for a good professor!!
Scotty is an amazing professor. I took this course last semester with a different prof and had to withdraw but I did much better in this class. He gives you everything you need to succeed. Recorded lectures from previous years, study guides, sample exams, and practice problems. If you struggle with math I recommend him, cool and friendly guy too.
Professor Parsell is a great professor for MAT 143. He is great at explaining the material and gives plenty of examples during class to use while completing the homework. He also gives a lot of practice problems to study for the exams. If you have the opportunity to take him, do it!
MAT 143 with Scotty was the best... never enjoyed learning math more in my life.... I thought calc was going to be a hell of a ride until I had Scotty. He explained the concepts super well and I always wanted to learn more bc of him. Def Recommend to anyone :)!! He's bro-tastic!
5/5 professor. Able to understand where students struggle so emphasizes approaches/skills. HW necessary and quiz each week. HW and content check first before QUIZ so you understand, which you WILL if you put in the time. Friends w/out hw/examples in other brief calc struggled. laid back, willing to help, easy to follow assignments/lectures!
Dr. Parsell is a very interesting guy. He is really good at explaining things and he finds analogies that relate to our generation. For example, he has "bro tips" which are just tips to remember when doing a certain problem, etc. Attendance isn't mandatory but he does take it each class. He is very reasonable and I would take him again!
His lectures are very easy to understand and he teaches at a good pace. Sometimes he's not super approachable, but he's always willing to help. His tests are easier because he puts practice exams online that follow the exact same pattern of the real exams.
Great professor, cleary teaches the material. Very friendly, cares about you and your grade. Not immensely easy but he does very well at teaching so as long as you put in some effort your grade should be fine.
Very clear spoken teacher that really helps you to understand the material he is teaching. Best calc teacher I've had.
solid at explaining the content and common misconceptions. calc II is difficult but he makes it seem easy through his lectures & examples. he cares about student success so reach out to him if you need help. try to be in class bc calc II is hard to learn on your own. if you miss class, reach out to him. Scotty P is the goat but you gotta reach out.
Amazing personality and a truly great guy. His tests can be tricky, but he is a very fair grader. His lectures involve problems with multiple concepts in each example, so take very good notes. It's very important to study. Make sure you have good fundamental pre-calc, or this class can be tricky.
It's Scotty P, do I need to say more?
So dry and boring. Talks extremely slow. It's literally painful. Sure, he is an okay teacher, but he's so dry. Easy class, but I am struggling to stay awake in every lecture.
He is an extremely boring professor and it will make the class insufferable, he always talks about how elementary schoolers can do this and that, blah blah. Its really annoying and makes it hard to ask questions because its kinda demeaning. The class has weekly homework, quizzes, and concept checks. You even have to do those the week of an exam.
Showing up to class is the only way to be able to understand the information taught. He has a flexible attendance taking where there's a certain amount you have to show up a semester. Clearly knows the information he's teaching and will work with you towards understanding when you have questions.
10/10 Professor! He doesn't give much extra credit, but you have all the materials to succeed, including videos, notes, and past exams. He responded to my email promptly and kindly. He breaks down difficult topics well. The best professor you'll find for this course. I took the course online in the winter, and it was very manageable.
He was a wonderful professor and a great teacher, but he is a super tough grader and he does not believe in extra credit. I found out many of his students were retaking the class after already having him for the same course.
Scotty's MAT143 class was a breeze - he breaks down concepts clearly and is super helpful. Homework is essential, but with the class materials and tools like unstuck AI, I was able to ace the exams. Highly recommend for anyone needing a solid calc foundation.
Great professor for a very easy class. Very little homework, and the content was clearly explained. If you're respectful and don't make noise during class or before class ends you'll be fine and he'll be happy.
He does a very well job teaching the course and lays everything out to ensure you succeed in his class.
i scott is a highly respected mathematician, but i took him for a really low math course, and so he was a little out of his element. if you attend class and focus up, he guides you through concepts really smoothly, but he can get frustrated over silly things like phones or packing up early. great teacher though. also he followed me on insta...
He is very smart and definitely a good professor for those who excel when it comes to math. However, for the average joe, he can make things very difficult to understand, because he'll skip over important steps in a certain process. It's like he's teaching you how to make pancakes, but doesn't tell you how to make the batter.
Although Scotty P is a really nice guy, his class was not the best. The way he teaches sometimes is hard to understand, and sometimes he can go fast. The exams were hard, theres no extra credit, and the worst part is that you can't use a calculator. He misses key steps, flies by without pausing to see if anyone needs to catch up.
scotty p's teaching style isn't it. lectures are rushed, he assumes we already know the material, and doesn't rlly answer ur questions clearly in class. he makes himself unapproachable to students who actually need the support. i tried asking for help during office hours and he just directed me to the tutoring center instead of helping me.
