he explains clear but his tests are too hard!!!
He explains everything very carefully, so if you pay good attention and study well, you can really learn a great deal. Also has a smart, mathy sense of humor.
He's a tough grader, but allows student room but dropping the lowest test score. But, you only get to bomb ONE test! Haha. He's clear, and his teaching style is visual. He is a stickler on notation, but his notation requirements are fair. I liked him overall. Do your homework and ask questions!
Great teacher if you're up for some math! If you take notes in class, documentation shouldn't be a problem, because he always does examples that are very clear. Exams and worksheets were very fair. WARNING - You may experience occasional or chronic Math-Head-ness (which really isn't unpleasant) :)
He will show you exactly how he wants you to present your work and will spell out for you with painful detail what he expects you to document. May seem mean, but he's really a softy. Lectures well and clearly loves the subject.
He is by far the worst math teacher I've ever had. Pretty bad when 70% of the class is failing after two tests. Would never take his class again, nor recommend it. His lectures and examples are good, except it doesn't cover homework problems or what's on the tests.

This guy thinks he's teaching eight grade, and treats his students accordingly. His lectures are mediocre, and I learned more from the textbook than from him.
bad teacher
We didn't call this guy "Little Hitler" for nothing.
Tests are challenging and homework is hard. Spent a lot of time in tutoring sessions. If you are planning on taking the calculus sequence this is good preparation. If you're looking for an easy A take someone else.
I didn't like his class, you had to do everything his way. And it has just never been like that with me and math. His lectures are okay, but like one guy said, i did learn more from the book than i did from him. He's okay, but i wouldn't of had taken him if given the chance to again.
Probably best for people taking higher-level math or those who are actually very serious about math. I actually liked him better in 252. MTH 112 is a hard class and not many people find it very pleasant anyway (I didn't, but I loved MTH 252).
Insulted my classmates when they had questions. I can't stand that! Didn't want to take the time to explain. Not a good instructor at all.
Aweful, I'm not taking any more math now.
not a hard teacher but hes very picky with his answers. tests are from his lectures and example so pay attention and write down some notes. DEFINITY WRITE IN HIS FORMAT or else he'll dock points. which is a pain in the a**. dont even care if you attend class but i would never miss his class cuz its very important notes you're gonna be writing down
Great teacher
Probably the best math teacher I have had in a long time. He is very strict but when you are done with the class, you know some math!!!

I found his style of lecture unclear and fast-moving. His writing and powerpoints featured small text that was hard to read and comprehend for a person with normal vision seated farther than two rows back. Although I have had precalculus in the past, I was so confused by his first class that I changed to another teacher.
He makes me laugh. Think the most important thing about math is to have a sense of humor about it. Class is hard, but he is my type of math teacher. Blue SQUARES! May feel like talks down too you at the begining but just trying to rasie level. Work load challenging but realistic to the class level BUT don't believe all you read, try for yourself
Mr. Perry clearly loves math, and has a great sense of humor. Sometimes his explanations are hard to understand, but he does enough examples to illustrate the concepts. Once you learn his expectations, the class becomes much easier.
He moves fast. His test and worksheets are often challenging. People often have to ask questions on assigned work. He can quickly show you how to do a problem. He began each class with questions on homework, we had already been assigned.
He is a good teacher. He starts every his class with homework but that is good for us. I like his teaching style.
His teaching style is confusing. He does examples without giving formal definitions of the lesson. He assumes too much, is pretentious and very condescending. Be prepared to be confused as the notes are terrible and the book was probably written by monkeys. His jokes are usually just arrogant outbursts used to project his superiority over the class
worst teacher ive ever had. i used to love math, now i never want to take it again. when i asked him for help he basically treated me like i was stupid for not understanding it. i took great notes, still nothing made sense. dont take him!
He is a ****iest instructor I've ever had! Dont take him!

he knows what he's talking about and is a pretty good communicator. plus he follows a set system, forget the book. whatever he goes over in class is what you have to know. tests look just like his worksheets

I thought that Perry was a fantastic teacher. He may come off as a bit condescending at first, but dont let that put you off. he really hammers the information into your head so you know what you're doing and why you are doing it. i would take him again in a heartbeat.

Scott is an excellent instructor. The book used in this math 112 course borders on worthless, but Scott's explanations of the problems and his examples are all crystal clear. While he may not be able to answer all questions in class due to time, he's always willing to take the time needed to explain things during his office hours.
He is a good teacher if your willing to learn. That means doing homework, taking a lot of notes and asking questions, you learn alot and he makes you understand why you learn somthing. Would I take his class again? It would all depend on my course load. His class takes a lot of studying but worth it in the end.
Scott is very helpful and clear. The text book is hopeless, but Scott's explanations and lectures more than make up for it. His midterms take problems from the turned in homework and his final takes problems from the midterms. On midterms, he tells you what sort of problems will be on it if you pay attention.
I was able to understand all the concepts in class and I did well on the weekly worksheets and the three tests. Although Scott may be able to teach math well, he is NOT someone I would ever take again. He treats his students like children, but expects them to act like responsible adults. In class he is condescending but he is better one on one.
Hated him people in the tutoring center couldn't even help with the homework and they were like 3 math classes above me. Expectations are way too high don't take him unless you think you can handle math being your life
My main problem with his 111b class was that, since he also teaches higher level math classes, all his explanations come from that perspective, which makes everything unnecessarily hard for those of us who just need 111b. Would not suggest this teacher to anyone, even if you are moving on to higher level math.
Scott's class is challenging, but his lectures are thorough and the notes are on his website,so you can focus on what's being said. The best way to review for his exams is to redo the worksheet problems as they are what to expect on the test. He can be a bit much, personality wise, but he might grow on you :)
He is the easiest math instructor at PCC! His midterm and final are almost same as worksheet that he gives during class.I got A really easily. If you want to get higher GPA, JUST TAKE HIS CLASS!
I took this class assuming I would be able to skate by with an easy A. I should have expected nothing less seeing as I've take math classes of this level twice before. The class is easy all you have to do is take good notes. The only problem is I he gives the most tedious lectures I've ever sat through. He won't help you out during tests at all.
He is condescending and totally unhelpful. makes you write out pointless crap stating "you need to learn mathamatical sentancing" this guy is totally unapproachable when you try to use logic to tell him that his students aren't 5 years old
So hard. Was not an interactive class, he makes you feel stupid for asking questions. Puts questions on the homework/quizzes that he never explained in class. On the bright side, all the notes are online. If you're really great at math you might like this guy. If you need more help than just watching someone talk about it, you might be SOL.
VERY EASY CLASS. If you do your homework well, you will get A on your exams. He always welcomes any questions regarding homework, lecture, textbook or any other problems!
Mr. Perry was unapproachable and condescending. He would have us work through problems that were almost identical a dozen times, but our homework and exams would be nothing like what he taught us in class! If you find math difficult don't take this teacher because he make almost no sense, and makes everything more complicated than it has to be
The teacher is extremely terrible. Makes very snide and condesending remarks. When you go and ask him a question, is very rude about it, and almost acts like you shouldn't question him. He is arrogant and a horrible teacher. I wouldn't recommend this guy to no one. He shouldn't even be a teacher!!!!
Pros- 1. Communicative 2. Has a passion for the subject Cons- 1. Condescending 2. Inappropriate/rude 3. Illogical and frustrating documentation guidelines 4. Annoying demeanor Note: I'd gone through Pre-Cal by the end of high school and still found this class difficult, mostly because of the teacher
I like his teaching style. He doesn't talk much about others but explains Math. so i could pay attention. And homework is not too much. I like Perry.
I thought he was unreasonable at first. Then I got into Calc. Now I see that Perry was preparing us for what lay ahead. Solid teacher. Don't take his class if you still need your high school teacher to hold your hand and tell you you're smart in math when you're not!
He is an okay teacher, wouldn't take him again. The book for HW is basically useless as well as the Supplemental problems he gives you. His lectures are straightforward and tests are easy, the only thing that got on my nerves was his "Format" that he never really fully explains.
At first taking notes in his class was like drinking water from a fire hose, but it got better. He supplies lecture notes so you can focus more on the lecture. He is extremely helpful if you are willing to seek out help. Occasionally he'll ask the class to do math problems that he hasn't explained yet. He makes sure to utilize all class time.
Okay teacher. Lectures are quite comprehensable, Math tests are based off of worksheets and activites. Sometimes Worksheets have problems that he has NEVER taught you, though he is friendly he may not help you with it. Would take him again.
I found Scott Perry to be stiff and pompous. He demanded less homework and more on tests than any other math teacher I've had at the college level. He does not assign any in-class group projects. He does not realize when he's not connecting in class, and tends to make even smart students feel stupid. He does not seem to care about students at all.
Mr. Perry was a good teacher. All you needed to do to get A's on his tests is study his lecture notes and study the assigned homeworks. I didn't even look inside the book for the last 2/3rds of the class. I didn't do the book homework, I studied the assigned homework, and lecture notes and got an A. He is an easy grader, but a little arrogant.
I thought that he taught very well, he understands that sometimes textbook content isn't always right and worked slow through everything with easy print of notes. Very strict on worksheets and tests. No late work. Very picky about "mathmatical documentation"
This teacher down talks to all the the students in the class. He goes ridiculously slow and and actually color codes math problems!I felt like I was in first grade. He makes bright students feel SO STUPID.I honestly couldn't spend more than 30min in his class.PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE LISTEN TO WHAT I'M SAYING.... HE DOESN'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO DO MATH!!
This guy used to be an aerospace engineer. Anyone who says he doesn't know what he's talking about is full of it. He is having a tremendous influence on the abilities of students to compete in the engineering field. If we can get As in his class, we have a much better chance of being world class engineers instead of second rate techs.
Good teacher in lecture. Explains things very well and does gauge when students aren't getting it. However he talks down to students outside of lecture. Strict but not unfair. Nice in lecture, a total jerk at all other times.
really good teacher. explains things well
He expects you to show up and be responsible for your learning. He does have high expectations of the way things are written; no differant than you would be expected to do on an essay. He is very precise on his lectures and is always willing to help when available. His grading is very fair and helps you grow; always showing you where to improve
I hated this class! I am not string in math but my previous teachers at least cared about how I was doing, Mr. Perry would practically laugh at you and not help at all. When you ask for help he would say that you simply have to pratice...but how do you practice if you don't know how to do it?? Take any other teacher!
Professor Perry will bring your skills to a higher level. He is very precise, detail oriented, and organized which is perfect for a Math Professor. His class is challenging but not to the point of impossible. If you are serious about Math and improving your skills, consider taking Math from him!
Perry is very rude and condescending. I grasp what he's saying but then go dumbstruck on his exams. One things for sure, and thats that he strict as hell on grading worksheets. So far i have spent over 10 hours in the tutoring center trying to figure out his class. When i explained this to him he said that i havent studied enough. worse teacher!
Perry is arrogant, and his teaching style does nothing but make concepts even harder to grasp. The worksheets are harder than the tests. Don't take his classes, they suck!
WORST TEACHER EVER! he's a jerk and teaches the class like it's meant for engineers even tho it's meant for social science. I didn't believe he could be as bad as the other rate my professor reviews but HE'S WORSE!
Professor Perry was an EXCELLENT instructor! His lectures are interesting, slightly amusing, and always crystal clear. He pre-publishes his lecture notes, which makes note-taking a breeze. He is very particular about process and deep understanding. If you want an easy A, don't take his class. If you want to REALLY UNDERSTAND math, TAKE IT!
Perry is a great teacher. He demands that you know your stuff but is fair in his grading. You will leave this class with a really good understanding of the material.
(1) He only grades 4 worksheets, 3 exams, and 1 final exam. 1 worksheet and 1 exam is "dropped" in your favor. (2) His note materials and grading feedback is EXCELLENT. (3) He is very strict about math documentation (how you present your solutions). Bottom line: only take this class if you do all your work. If you don't, it will be VERY HARD.
He is smart and works hard but is very intimidating. I was scared to ask questions!
Perry does an excellent job teching the quick and practical ways to doing each and every type of equation and function.
Scott is a great teacher. He explains EXACTLY what is expected of you and beats it into you until it is habit. He gives out difficult worksheets that are worth about 10% of your grade. These worksheets make the tests seem easy.I had to go get help before a class and he is VERY eager to help students during office hours. GREAT TEACHER.
Have to keep it brief, apparently. If you don't go to the classes, you will miss a lot. Perry comes off very condescending and annoying, but he knows his stuff. If you're not going into engineering, I wouldn't recommend this. I've aced university-level calculus before (just couldn't transfer it) and had a hard time passing this class.
This instructor is not good. He does everything he can to lower a persons grade. He demands perfect documentation of your work but does not perform correct documentation in lectures. Perry does not like to anwer questions and does not seem to care if you understand the material or not. Also some of his equations are not true equations.
Mr. perry spent the first 3 weeks telling everyone how difficult trig was, wasting so much time telling us how hard it was, it wasn't. During tests, ask him a question, he literally says, "I can't help you." Poor communication skills and he is nit picky but not clear about what he will mark down. He is condescending but the course itself was easy.
I spent a LOT of time in tutoring & I'm good at math. I did good on my worksheets but he would mark me down for some work that he considered scratch work. He looks for any reason to deduct points from your exams so be VERY careful with your documentation. He's not social and will not help you even if you asked multiple times. In the end I got my A
He is not helpful at all, can be very rude at times. Very condescending and extremely picky about documentation. This seems more important to home than the arithmetic itself. I would definitely recommend avoiding his classes.
Mr. Perry was great! I would go to his office hours often and he was always helpful. He told me to keep coming back! His grading was tough; it was my first real math wakeup call. But he is very fair. His lectures were crystal clear to me; the material was challenging. I worked hard and got an A. Study hard and don't be scared; he is a nice guy.
Mr Perry is by far the WORST TEACHER AT PCC DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.He talks down to everyone like you are 3 years old & thinks he is better than everyone. He never answers your questions all he says is "sorry can't help you."He is the most unreasonable & nit-picky teacher in the world & grades you down for not lining up equal signs for god sakes.
Perry did an excellent job making concepts clear and he has a great energy about him while he teaches.
He is very specific and picky when grading test, watch out! I have a lot to say but I will stick with, I do not recommend him.
I dropped this class because I had a very hard time with the teacher's person. I have a rule that I should stick it out regardless of the professor's personality but I just couldn't see eye to eye with him. He definitely knows his stuff. I'm smart but the way he talks to me makes me feel dumb. I know it is half my problem, just saying.
scott perry was great. i think a lot of people in my class just wanted to be told what do, and not have to actually THINK and solve the problem. if you ask him to solve it for you, he will say "can't help you", yes, but thats because he wants you to try and figure it out with your brain!
Condesending, unhelpful, assumes everyone is going into engineering, he expects 300 lvl class documentation in a 100 lvl class. I wouldn't recommend him as a teacher,he knows his stuff he's just horrible at teaching it. He spends more time talking down to students and tossing around passive agressive threats than teaching.
He was not helpful at all and made countless mistakes in his lectures. You actually can learn quite a lot in his class but you need to SUPER pay attention to do so. I had 112 with him and it was very stressful. It really seemed like he was wanting us to fail and many kids in my class did.
Before taking any class, I would read the instructor's ratings and take that with a grain of salt. By far, Scott Perry is the BEST instructor I've ever had, bar none! He's teaching methodology is all on power points and very simple to follow. His exams are based on his lectures. Take great notes and you'll do fantastic.
He doesn't follow the book and does not provide answers to his slides so if you miss class you're kinda screwed as he's not available and his office hours are only from 7am to about 8am if you're lucky to catch him there. This course is setup 4 failure and his teaching spirit is in the form of punishment. DO NOT TAKE MATH FROM GUY!
Scott seems like a nice guy, but that's the only positive thing I can say. I had to drop his class, it was hard to understand his lectures. There were little hands on exercises and rarely one on one help. This style may work for some, but not me.
He's a pretty nice guy, but his teaching method was hard to follow. He gives very wordy definitions from the book and doesn't explain them very thoroughly. He goes off of his slides in class, but he works very quickly and won't slow down or go back. He is condescending and very harsh in grading, especially on formatting. I would not recommend him.
As has been said his online lecture notes are useless if you miss class. He came across as very condescending. He lectures at a fairly fast pace and doesn't like to go back or stop. While homework is optional you really need to do it to learn anything at all. He is the kinda teacher that just couldn't care less if you pass or not.
Mr. Perry is an excellent teacher, but the course was still fairly difficult. He does not use the textbook and you must print out all the study notes for class. He has a good sense of humor and is very helpful. He is fairly pick about math department formatting.I highly recommend this teacher for hard working students.
If you love doing math and want to continue pursuing this path whether your are or not, re-consider yourself very carefully by reading other people's rating before committing this class. I highly regret only by looking the latest one.
Perry is an amazing math instructor. I honestly don't see why he has such terrible reviews. I guess it's because not enough people really know how to adapt to such material. Crystal clear on everything, and willing to help you on any problem that you encounter. It's a shame that this is his last year teaching.
Perry was my favorite math prof at PCC. (Hence taking his classes two terms in a row.) Yes, you do need to attend class to pass, but that's because these are two of the most difficult lower level math classes, and he'll admit it. He believes in in-class group work, goes over any hw questions the class has, and encourages his students to do well.
Do yourself a favor and find another teacher. He is passive aggressive and does not do a good job explaining. I think you would be better off learning from the text book. You really do have to work for your grade, which is a good lesson in its self.
I found Perry to be extremely irritating. Would highly recommend avoiding his classes, even if you're good at math. No credit for homework, vague-yet-specific documentation, study guides were USELESS, and felt embarrassed to ask questions or struggle in class. Not supportive to the learning process at all which is crucial for math.
I didn't do great in the class because I'm not very good at math, but Perry is a great teacher, with very clear expectations. I never did the homework, but if you do all the homework, and show up to class and take clear notes exactly how he writes them you will do great in the class.
Without a doubt the worst class I have ever taken. I should have known the first day when he made a girl cry for explaining a problem to a girl sitting next to her. Having a math background myself, I still nearly failed the class. I would get at least 9 out of the ten questions right on every test but still fail because I didn't use his format. SOS
Mr. Perry was the worst math teacher I have ever had. He was condescending and made even the smartest students feel small and ashamed for ever asking a question. He was extremely nitpicky about everything, he would grade down for things like "equal signs didn't line up" even if you had the correct answer to the questions. Do not take his class!
I took a higher level class knowing I'm bad at math which is my fault, but his lectures didn't help much anyway. He didn't seem to like the idea of helping us and wanted us to figure the work out ourselves. Class is very exam grade heavy, so class grade doesn't help much. The online textbook is also not as amazing you'd think.
