I was not very impressed by Peterson. He just didn't seem to be that effective of a teacher. I didn't learn effectively with the style of his teaching. It made for a pretty dreaded term. If you can skip and do well like I did, do it.

Does not teach the material very well. Lectures a mile a minute...
Bar none the best math professor I've ever had. Take 251 in the spring for a smaller class size. If you sit in the front and ask lots of questions you will get a LOT from prof Peterson. His teaching style is very conducive to working with your questions.
he doen;t know alot about math. And he is so lazy not writing his own exam. He should not teach mth252.
Hands down the WORST teacher I've had in college. He didn't teach much and used the hardest tests he could find... I drew doodles on my final because I didn't recognize a single thing. If you get him, drop the class and take it another term.
He is hard to follow during lectures sometimes because he moves through the material fast. He doesn't see peoples hands half of the time when they have questions. His tests are crazy...the class average on the last midterm was 52%. Tests are in this class

Peterson's classes are hard because he doesn't allow calculators or notecards on his tests. He also has weekly quizzes, assignments, homework problems, and labs that are mandatory. HOWEVER, he is willing to teach you if you are willing to learn.

Great basketball player, and a great teacher. His gateway exams are hard, but still doable. Exams were ok as long as you study. His lectures are EXTREMELY helpful, and is one of the very few professors that can explain things this well.
This is the worst professor I have ever had. He makes no sense. No wonder the class average is failing.
frustrating teacher because if you get behind at all (which is easy 'cus he moves so fast) you're pretty much screwed. not to mention the homework checks, what the hell is that about?
BAD BAD BAD professor!!!! I have know idea what is going on. I am now dumber from sitting in that class all term long listening to his words of "wisdom".
It kind of discredits the whole doctoral program when you get a teacher like this. I got the exact same grade on my second test as on my first one, except I didn't go to class once in between. This kind of thing doesn't lend much credibility to him.
I think a lot of the people who are complaining about him are freshman and dont understand that all math lecture are not difficult to follow. The point is you have to go to lecture and then do the homework and use his lecture notes as a reference. he
I thought Peterson was a very good teacher. I think most of the people who complained just suck at math. Most of who he teaches are elementary ed students who are notoriously bad at math. He really is a very good teacher.
This guy is ridiculous and way off. He sent our class an e-mail saying that if you had a 50% or below, to drop the class (which would be everyone) and he said the reason we are doing so poorly is beacause we didn't place into it. I took 95 and got an A+
Hard to follow, uses very poor homework system on line, and unorganized
I work for Dr. Peterson, and he comes across as a unpersonable, but very intelligent guy. Probably he was just one of those students who would rather study math than go party (not a bad choice, imo, but boring), and never grew out of it. Cryptic emails.
uhm.............. he sent me about 3748 emails per day regarding our class... annoyed the hell out of me. failed the class.. im bad at math but im a senior so i can only imagine how tough this class is for freshmen..
Was told via e-mail that if you had a below 50 on any of his mid-terms then you should drop the class...I had below 50 and passed the class with a B...He's not that bad of a guy, but to be truthful, I passed the class because of the TA for recitation.
This was my 3rd term at OSU and Scott Peterson was by far the worst professor i have encountered so far. We were far behind the other math class but still got the same final. He is lazy never gets things back, gives online hw that is impossible. stay away!
Just a bad teacher all around - doesn't explain things, completely unorganized. I pity the student who gets into his class.
I took Math 111 last year, the only real reason I passed the class was because of the recitation. I love algebra, only thing I'm good at in math, and he just made absolutely hard to understand, didn't tell us how he got the answers. GRRRRR
this guy doesn't know what he's doing
horrible class, boring lectures, doesn't know how to teach well at all.
Doesn't know how to teach EXCEPT outside the lecture hall. He is VERY helpful and explains things at full length if you go to his office hours. The online homeworks is terrible though. But overall he's not the worst math teacher i have had.... scarborough was definately worse
Go to his office hours he is very willing to help students that take time out of their schedule to learn.
Ehh...he's okay...go for a better prof if you can...
Stay away
I dont know what everyone is complaining about, If i hadn't sat thru one of B. Smiths lectures I might not have liked peterson as much as i did. Unlike smith he actually cares about whether or not students are learning. Online homework does suck, but overall he likes math and teaches it well.
I dont think he even knows how to do the problems.
I think I could teach that class, and I only took it in high school 2 years ago. I uaualy fall asleep, quad shoot coffee and determination is never enough.
very confusing prof. my friend who took advanced calculus in high school came to 111 and SHE was confused!!! do NOT take a class from him.
Horrible teacher, worst i've had in 2 years
The worst teacher I have ever had. I would not have thought he was that bad until I took the class with another teacher.
this teacher blows. do not take him
Worst teacher I have had at OSU, its not because I am bitter, I got a B in the class. I just pity the kids who couldnt catch on because he doesnt know how to teach and messes up all the time. His online hw i BS and he is lazy as can be. takes a year to get test back. he shoudlnt teach. TA is savior
At first he's very difficult to understand but after a while you can get used to him. He's got plenty of office hours and is much better 1 on 1.
He is no monotone it will put a lama to sleep and thats hard to do, dont take math from him

worst teacher i have ever had, actually made fun of me when I came in for extra help.
Possibly the worst teacher I've ever had, my high school teachers blow him outta the water...class average on the tests was below a 50 percent how is he still working at our institution its crazy
Go to his office hours! He can be really helpful.

This guy is hilarious. If you have any form of intellect you might understand his jokes. And I definately recommend you try the pizza named after him at American Dream Pizza!
Horrible teacher. Forgets what its like not to know the info since he's been teaching for so long. Messes up on notes so a whole page is wasted. Take someone else. Also makes easy classes like math 111 hard.

Horrible...I don't think that he has taught this class because he does not know what hes doing and does not explain the information so that people understand it. Take someone else; he gave us someone elses practice midterm and said that it was not very helpful which would defeat the purpose of giving it to us. He needs to be fired!

He always messes up. He seems like a nice guy, but teaching probably shouldn't be his primary job. He screws up all the time which causes you to screw up.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR. By far the worst teacher at OSU in the mathematics department. He messes up all the time, gives tests on material not covered in class and barely curves his class when it is most necessary. Horrible. Avoid him -- even if it is not possible and is a required course TAKE IT SOMEWHERE ELSE.
hardest teacher possible for 252, explains things one way and tests you another, just bs all around
Scott is a great instructor. He has hard test, but nothing he doesn't prepare you for. Also he doesn't use calculators. Calculators kill your brain.
Horrible, if you end up with him, withdraw. Ive had terrible math teachers in the past, but then I took this class and realized how lucky I had been. He is awful, avoid if at all possible.
I took a class with him a year ago for MTH 251 and he has changed his teaching style completely. He works very hard to get across the information.
Peterson always gives examples that are difficult, so difficult in fact that you will never see one like it ever again. His examples are not practical it it makes it hard to learn the material.
DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASS FROM THIS MAN! hE HAS TROUBLE TEACHING AND MAKES NUMEROUS MATHMATICAL ERRORS IN HIS LECTURES. hIS TESTS AND ASSIGNMENTS HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE CLASS AND HE GRADES THEM WAY TOO HARD.
Tough Teacher. Grades HW and Tests really Hard and is not the best at teaching. No calculators or notecards. Gave a test two weeks before finals that everyone bombed so gave a retake the thursday before finals. Very big on explaining every step of every problem. prefers a clear process than the right answer. Try to avoid
DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASS WITH THIS GUY!!!! HE IS HORRIBLE! WORST TEACHER EVER! GAVE AN EXAM DURING DEAD WEEK!! IDIOT!
Avoid this teacher he will fail you.
he does not deserve a rating other than TERRIBLE TEACHER.
Everybody thinks this guy is so horrible, but I think he's good. Yes, his tests are more difficult because they are not multiple choice, and require written explanations sometimes, but after taking the course, I know the material very well, and feel like Scott did a very good job
writes impossibel test and then grades crazy hard and doesnt curve. also is willing to give an exam during dead week.
Assigns work as if this is the only class we are taking(weekly assingments, quizzes). Lectures don't fully explain the material and often confuses himself on how to solve his own example problems. "Gee, this worked out earlier, why can't I get it now?" Suggested problems range from 15-30 a section, in which he doesn't even test us on. Not worth it.
This is possibly the worst teacher ever. He can't even solve his own problems in class and it is very confusing when trying to understand Math. He should never be allowed to teach an introductory course again. His homework assignments and tests are not consistant with a 100 level class
It's true that his class was hard, but it was probably a good thing for mental development.
He was a really bad teacher and couldn't explain concepts worth crap. He also expects a lot out of you for how badly he teaches.
Enjoys seeing his students suffer
Peterson seems alright to me, his tests are of appropriate difficulty and he seems to express concepts clearly. Besides that, the labs are bull and the homework is tough and due in class every lecture. But, the homework may have something to do with why I'm doing well in his class.
He's a nice guy but he doesn't explain things well at all!
Peterson moves way too fast. If you don't know calculus before you go into this class you're screwed.
Took integration quiz 3 times, the class grades didn't improve much each time. He would put problems on the board in front of the class and not even know how to do them himself.
Heys not a good teacher... not everyone is but, he makes tests that only a good one could prepare you for, not him... either take EXCEL with someone else or, switch out. ps he'll assign HW and of like 20 prolems he'll choose 4 hard ones and base your grade from them (it really sucks). He also grades everything on completeness. Stay AWAY!
He's actually not that bad, just that you HAVE to work hard to pass, and he's always willing to help you understand as long as you're willing to try.

Clear lectures. Demanding professor who cares a lot about your learning
Granted, this is 100 lvl course, so one shouldn't expect too much, but this guy is honestly ridiculous. By that I don't necessarily mean difficulty, he is just bumbling in lecture and has certain class policies (ie online homework that pretty much has to be 100% correct) that just suck. Don't take this class from this guy, you'll regret it.
Does it tell you something when your TA agrees that your main course instructor is an Idiot? This teacher is the worse teacher I've ever had in a math class, period. Some classmates in my lecture session even had to correct his mistakes. It's rather pointless to buy the book when you are not going to use it for homework.
He is awful! I found a mistake in the solutions for one of the major quizzes in our class. I have absolutely no respect for him as an instructor. The TA was much more helpful and did a better job of explaining the concepts.
FIND A DIFFERENT TEACHER! I mean it!! His lectures are not clear and are very unorganized. TAs are much more helpful. He changed the requirements of homework during the 3rd week and did not make it clear at all. If you email him asking a question you do not get it answered, instead he will send you a pointless worthless reply that does not help.
This is a TERRIBLE class. I took AP calculus last year and all I need is to be reminded how to do these problems, but somehow Scott manages to confuse me more. He sends a ridiculous amount of e-mails often contradicting himself. I have emailed him several times needing help with online hw and he was little help and is no longer answering my emails.
The tests do not reflect what you have learned in class. He always makes mistakes during the lecture examples. He is hard to follow in class and does not explain the problems well. Half the time he cannot do the examples and problems that he expects you to do. Find a different teacher.
Mr. Peterson helped me understand the world of calculus flawlessly. His lectures are easy to understand, and he makes learning fun. He made this joke where he pretended to get electrocuted, it was sooooo funny. He always finds a way to keep me interested during class.
He frequently makes mistakes and is not helpful in the least bit when you have questions. I expected this class to be an easier, but some how he makes review material confusing. AVOID AT ALL POSSIBLE COSTS!!!
After reading negative reviews, I still decided to take his class. I went into class expecting frequent mistakes and screw-ups, and that was what I got. He will be in the middle of a problem and stop, stare to the ceiling, and students will fill in his mistake. Online assignments are hard and extremely precise, be very careful. Expect the worst!
wow, Scott, Scott, Scott..if you need a good kick in the pants after not taking math your senior year of high school, just go ahead and take Math 111 with Scott Peterson!
Worst teacher I have ever had!!!!
Scott is the worst teacher ever! He does not even know how to do the problems him self. The lectures are useless for he explains nothing. The HOMEWORK IS THE WORST HW I HAVE EVER DONE! 5HOURS OF HW A NIGHT!. never take this guy. hes a joke
Not a good professor. Teaches the hardest methods to do a problem, and ignores basic knowledge needed to do the homework. Recitation teacher had to clean up after his mistakes a lot, and actually teach us, because he was so crappy at explaining his lessons.
Ya... just to add to the plethra of bad reviews...i added another one...he stinks...his online hw sucks and so does the book homework. just when you think you finish a 3 hour online assignment, you get a book one, and just when you have that done...more online... his crappy teaching doesnt help either
His class is simply awful. The online hw is complete bs. It requires literally a perfect answer,so even if you have the right answer but have different notation you will get no credit! This class sucks To prove my point, I got a D in his class, retook it with Prof. Argyres and recieved an A, then went on to Mth 241 with Prof Kurose and got an A.
Every math 111 class is hard. All of my friends took math 111 from different teachers and I was the only one who really understood it. Anytime I needed help on homework, Scott was more than willing to help. Go to the Math Learning Center and use your resources, math 111 isn't going to be a class you skate though, no matter what teacher you have.
This teacher is an nice guy but a poor teacher. He does not teach how to do the actual homework, he only explains the proofs that lead up to the theory. His online homework is very frustrating and requires horrendous amounts of time to complete. In his favor, he will give help if he is asked and will respond to his emails promptly.
He is pretty much the worst teacher here. I couldn't stand his teaching style, mostly because it consisted of him getting half way through a problem or example on the board and then not knowing how to finish it so he quits. Worst class I have ever taken. I will never take another class with him, and would really like to see him formally evaluated
ugh. he sucks.
horrible.
This is the WORST TEACHER I've had in all my years as a student. He makes no sense and doesn't teach what he gives for homework.
Worst teacher I will have.. probably in my life! He lifts up his shirt occasionally to expose his belly- Disturbing!! In the end he tries to be helpful but he needs to face it, he's not cut out for teaching.
I liked Scott's approach to integral calc and I learned a lot in his class. It has been a while since I took it though, when I did the homework was not online which sounds like a hassle. Overall, if you are prepared to put in the effort you will learn. Scott always made himself accessible for help if it was needed.
he's a great teacher if you are into creepy shirt lifting old men who don't help you learn anything. He also repeats the same lame jokes for each class. its disgusting. I suppose it's not his fault he can't teach it though, He just doesn't know how to do it himself.
I had a really hard time in this class. The grad student's were better at explaining the material than he was.
Horrible. Seriously the guy couldn't finish a thought.
I couldnt understand any single word from him without a translater
Scott it an amazing teacher for any student who is willing to put in the work.
DONT DO IT! Do not take this man. Im a seinor in the Biology/Pre-med program @ OSU. I have kept a 3.9 GPA and I think its safe to say that that GPA will drop after this term. The main problem is that he never posts anything that could actually help you prep for the test. The reviews are correct when they say the HW and WW-HW are a waste of time!
He's terrible. Do not take this class with him as a professor. I had taken the class before and he managed to make it hard for me again. He made me regress.
He was a really hard teacher to understand, he couldn't ever finish a problem without making a mistake. The tests never seemed to reflect what he told us to study. If you can get a different teacher I would suggest you do.
Was a Awesome Teacher Willing to help you Succeed if you were willing to get help when you needed it. Bottom Line is If you want a teacher that is willing to work with you and help you understand he is great. He is a Hard teacher but I still was able to pass with a B+. It is not a Easy Class but I Do understand Calculus.
He's a really interesting teacher. Maybe get 2 examples in b/c he talks SO slow or doesn't finish. He makes hw of 30 problems due next class at 8am. Half of the material he has not go over. There is also lab, and turn in homework. He believes, "You have the knowledge to solve the problem, even though you have never seen the material"- Scott.
A hard teacher that will make sure you have the foundation for math or engr. Dont take it with him if these arent your major. If you put in the time you will know this stuff forward and backward. Count on 3-4 homeworks per week approx 2 hrs each. Homework much harder than tests. KEY: Study the hw to ace the tests. Thats what I did.
Terrible teacher. Answers questions by asking you another question, and walking away. No help at all. Homework has nothing to do with what is covered in class.
He gives out tons of homework, and the challenge homework each week is ridiculous. Messes up examples in class and turns off examples on the online homework so it is very difficult to figure how to do the math.
Quite possibly the greatest teacher I've met in my life. He is constantly helpful, and answers questions with the utmost clarity. If you have the option to take his class, even if it is not required for your major, take it don't think just take it.
Very unorganized, the recitation, lecture, and hw are all on different subjects so you end up teaching yourself a lot. He sends a million emails "to update" you but doesn't follow through with the updates. He changes homework due dates constantly, and there's a ton of homework, you never really know when anything is due. no calculators hard grading
He is really bad one.He made up the test and he didn't know how to do that.A ton of hw,and conflict with the lecture.By the way, I extremely hate that explain more and more in the test!I'm studying math, not writing!!!
Do not take his class if you can help it. He is horrible at clarifying and answering questions. The tests totally catch you off guard no matter how much you study. Take your chances on 111.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Questions do not get answered and you have to teach yourself all of the material
He is a pretty nice teacher. If you ask a question for him, he will teach you carefully.
Worst math teacher. he doesnt explain. no calculator and no note card on tests. his home work is endless and in order to do the homework you need a calculator which isn't good practice for his test. grades unfairly. average test scores range from 37% to 48%. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! Unless you want to have to take it again.
He is the worst possibly teacher at OSU and deserves to be fired. His average test score is failing and he is completely mind numbing. He shouldn't be allowed to teach at all and his degree in math should be revoked if that's possible.
He never gave a clear answer on any questions I asked, his tests were impossible, and he had rules about assignments that were difficult to keep up with.
He is a really nice teacher. Although his hw and tests is hard, that can help you lay the foundation of maths. If you are not good at math or you are not a science/engineer students, don't take his class. Anyway, his is not a very bad teacher.
Curves grades. ALWAYS available to help. Knows his stuff very well. Easy to talk to, very nice. It's math, so you have to actually do the work and study. I suspect those who don't like him, didn't put in the work. The reason there's that much homework is because you need to go over the concepts that much for them to sink in. Great professor!
By far the most difficult professor I have ever had. Not because of the material, but because he will mess up on his examples which results in unnecessary confusion. He also assigns the most homework of any college professor. He grades extremely hard, avoid Scott Peterson at all costs.
LOL I bet who made the previous comment must be in the same class i had... XD Anyways, he's really off order a lot of times and makes you wonder what I'll learn today... You have to spend a great amount of extra time on it for a good grade. Please do remember, the gender ratio this summer is effing ridiculous- Two females plus tons of guys...
If you DON'T want to understand math .. Take his class
Avoid this professor if you want to feel successful in math. I'm used to understanding math, but this class was overwhelming and it's impossible to be completely on top of it.
This is a very hard class in general, but Scott does what he can to help students pass. Expect a lot of homework and learning material on your own, but know he's always available for help if you need it. You will only succeed in this class if you work hard and go to each class.
good good !!
Scott Peterson is a good person in general life, but when it comes to being a good professor, it makes math more confusing and harder than it really is.
Extremely hard to follow lesson plans. Does not answer questions well i got a 51% in this class and was rounded up to a C thats how low his test scores are!! It was nice to get such a huge curve but Scott petersons class left me completely uprepared for any higher level math!!!
Avoid him. He gives a lot of extra work. His homework is more difficult and you get fewer trys. Pick someone else.
Avoid him. He is the worst teacher you will ever have. No teaching in class and he expects u to know a lot. His test scores are really low. Average score of 55.
I feel like he gets bad reviews because of the course, not him. Yes - the course itself is difficult, but he is a teacher who cares and is great outside of class to meet with and get clarification/extra help. You HAVE to work hard, and don't blame a prof who has 100+ students if he makes mistakes. Do every assignment and study hard.
He has no idea how to do math first of all. He messes up on problems all the time and looks like he never comes to class prepared with anything so nothing he's doing ever makes sense. He is willing to help but is not good at it. He got my homework problems he assigned wrong. He's a nice guy but truly worst teacher I've ever had.
was not clear at all
He gives you packets to do on your own without really giving you background on it. One time, I asked him for help on a packet he assigned and HE DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO HELP. He also assigns a lot of homework that doesn't have to do anything what he lectures on and he contradicts himself often. I would not recommend him to anyone!
Professor Peterson is a good professor, but you should definitely work with him in office hours. He is really good at helping students individually if you make the time.
He is absolutely one of the worst professors I've ever had. He "doesn't believe in formulas" AND THIS IS A MATH CLASS. He often will teach random things that don't correlate. He will get answers wrong and students have to correct his work for almost every problem. If he doesn't know how to teach a problem he will just say, oh well figure that out.
I can't believe how bad his class was. the material is very dense and he is so vague and unclear. he expects too much, but doesn't give the best explanation of material. i don't know how OSU gave him the job. he understands math, he just can't explain it to other people. you can understand the material by yourself better.
Do not reccomend
Worst class and worst teacher I have ever taken math from.
he teaches as if he expects you've taken the class before and this is your second or third time taking the class (which you will probably have to do if you take his class). When he goes up in front of the class to teach he just goes through the motions without clarifying what he is doing or explaining his steps. Do not take his class.
Honestly, he is a bad teacher. Examples he gives are confusing if you don't know the small steps in between. He moves fast. He doesn't do the best job at explaining. Also the worst part of this class were the MML quizzes. They take too much time and it's too much work. Online homework like 4 times a week and sometimes written homework too.
He doesn't explain anything and its all group work awful
Scott is a nice guy. Going into his office hours helped a lot. The tests and the amount of MML was what made the class difficult. He does really care about his students succeeding. My recommendation is office hours and the MLC.
You can tell he is really smart but he doesn't teach very well in lecture. He always confuses himself. However if you go to his office hours he seems to be much better at explaining things in person. He also is very forgiving in terms of grades and assignments, which makes up for his lack of teaching skills. It's a fair class.
He's a pretty good teacher but you have to go to his office hours for good quality help.
Normal instuctor, he isn't bad nor good, just normal
He's a good guy and he cares, but he's hard to learn from. If you struggle with understanding math, I would not recommend him as a professor.
Teacher poorly explains curriculum. Half the time it makes no sense and the other half it's not explained at all. The labs consist of problems that were "talked about" during lecture, however, they don't teach anything. They expect you to simply know it.
Scott's descriptions of topics are convoluted at best. He is a nice man, but his teaching skills are lacking. His class is structured so students get work with no descriptions, get confused and then do not receive the actual teachings at the end. The class shouldn't be hard, but he manages to make it confusing.
I think Scott is a great prof! The courses were difficult but he is a very approachable guy and is always cracking jokes.
Terrible, teaches in very unnecessary ways. Explains simple concepts as very hard ideas. Exams are tough. Avoid at all costs
Peterson does not know how to explain easy concepts; he makes them seem so difficult. He just doesn't know how to explain or teach a class, really. If you can, take math with a different professor, or at a community college. If you end up in one of his classes, go to the MLC, or his office hours. Put a lot of work into it and you'll get an A. :)
He is a little unorganized when it comes to his teaching style. He is all over the place when he tries to teach something new. He doesn't explain things clearly and this was an extremely difficult class. Most of the things he taught I had to go on YouTube to figure it out. Not a great teacher and try to get another professor if you want to pass.
Hes a great guy, just an awful teacher. He doesnt do a great job of explaining the whys or hows of theories. Hes accessible outside of class, which is great, but Id rather leave the class with a comprehension of the theories, rather than knowing Ill have to return to his office hours for clarification.
He is nice person tho, and make sure to visit him during his office hours if you deiced to take his class. The recitations are helpful and make sure don't ship them. He doesn't have extra credits, so the exams and online homework are important.
I have taught at the college level for 76 terms so I definitely have experience in the field of education. Scott is one of the most naturally gifted lecturers that I have ever seen. He explains things clearly and precisely. I wish he taught other math classes that I need to take.
This class was trash. I took the honors version as well, thinking it would get me a better prof. I was so wrong. He barely taught, had to be corrected on the content multiple times as he was teaching it wrong, and had many mistakes in his tests and worksheets that had to be fixed. Ridiculous. Had to teach myself because I actually need this content
He's a really nice guy but doesn't know what hes teaching. He isn't good at explaining concepts and will leaving you with having more questions than started. ALEKS heavy but will be the only thing that helps with learning the material.
Scott is really nice, but a pretty terrible teacher. He does a poor job at using his class time wisely and hands out papers in class, but most people don't know how to do them. The class itself is bland, but the recitation is certainly the most helpful. The course uses ALEKS and he offers no xtra credit so mainly just homework and tests.
Scott Peterson is a friendly person, however he lacks the ability to teach in lecture situations. He assigns large amounts of homework without actually teaching you how to do the math. Much of the homework is online, and in class rather than lecturing he will simply assign work for you to work on.
dont do it.
The material he teaches is nothing compared to the exams. All of the math classes take the same exam, and he did not prepare us for the midterms or final well enough. The book and MyLabMath was used a lot. Lectures were not productive as Peterson tends to forget what he is lecturing or messes up while teaching.
Often messes up while teaching. Did not prepare us for the midterm and final and I had to teach myself cause the textbook was clearer than his lectures. Only take his class if u have prior knowledge for most of the course.
I had to take his class remotely during the coronavirus spring term. It looks like his online classes are very similar to his in-class class. All around disorganized and does not give good instructions. Uses class time to go over problems in the workbook but does not really go over techniques or how to solve problems. Just don't take his class
I'm taking his class online because of covid-19, and in these first 4 weeks I can honestly say I feel like he has taught us next to nothing. If this was my only class, maybe I'd have time to go through the entire textbook and teach myself everything, but I'm taking 17 credits so I'm screwed. This class is 100% going to drop my GPA.
Have him for online classes during Covid-19. He teaches as if the students have the same amount of context or base knowledge that he has, so every class he jumps in to new material without giving background and you are left clueless to what's going on. On top of that, he assigns a lot of homework each week over topics barely covered in class.
He's a math teacher so the class is tough but he is a good prof.
Nice guy, but the way he explains things is as if he expects that we've already taken the class, as he frequently jumps between topics w/o sufficient explanation. Also made frequent mistakes during lecture! Also, there were challenge problems in the book that he couldn't solve! Maybe fit to teach algebra but definitely not calc 2.
He is a nice guy but doesn't provide any sort of teaching of the content. Course heavily relies on learning the math yourself outside of class and using Chegg for 99% of it. I had more homework in this class than I did for my major specific classes. I am glad this class is nearly over with because it is actually ridiculous.
Scott is a really nice person, but the way he teaches is not very helpful for someone learning the content for the first time. He moves through example problems really quickly and doesn't really explain the general formulas/topics you need to know before doing them. If you struggle with math I would not recommend taking this course with him.
The communication was lacking in this class, both regarding information and actual coursework. The majority of the time in class was spent answering a few homework problems and the actual mathematics was left up to students to teach themselves. The homework program and quizzes were near impossible due to technicalities.
I have struggled with math all my life. I have had my fair amount of good and bad professors as I am a junior now. This class has been a absolute joke!! Scott is a very nice person but he teaches in a very confusing and unhelpful manner. He is very disorganized and you will find yourself using a lot of chegg and YouTube. Self teaching pretty much.
Never actually got a syllabus. Hilariously high amount of busywork and when people called him out for it he emailed out a rant about how students need to stop being so entitled. He also sent another email criticizing people's grammar in a project but also said "if you writing is not to great you should type it" in regards to handwriting
He is a good guy, but is not the best teacher.
Although attendance is not mandatory, there is work that is assigned to turn in at the end of the lectures. There is weekly homework assignments (M,W,F), that you need an access code (via textbook) to find. The homework is easy, guess and check your answers til they're right, and do them ahead of time so you can do other work.
Scott Peterson has a set way he teaches that many students struggle to follow. He wants students to make sense of what he is teaching, however, his teaching lacks the concepts needed in order to actually learn. I relied on my peers and Khan academy to understand the course material. I would not recommend his as a professor.
Not a great class over zoom. Had due dates wrong every week. Takes a while to reply to email, even after 3 follow-ups!
Unorganized. Will sometimes quiz you on content you have not yet learned or been assigned. Finding homework is a hassle. He is kinda rude ngl, he talks over people a lot.
I'm someone who usually gets an A in math, and let me tell you, I was shocked by how hard this math class was. The weekly quizzes did not relate to the exams at all, and our class had some of the lowest quiz and exam averages I've seen. I do not recommend this teacher at all, especially if you are taking his class online. Would not take again.
He used very confusing software and made literally everything into an acronym which got annoying. he also wasn't too good at explaining things so while the material may not have been super difficult, he made it hard to understand.
Peterson is nice and he seems passionate about math, but unfortunately he is a bit disorganized and his lectures can be hard to follow. However he's willing to work with you. Overall he's fine.
Scott is a good guy, he just really is bad at teaching. His lack of organization in lectures make learning the topics difficult. On top of having to basically teach the subject yourself, there are three assignments every other day, including weekends. If the assignments were more easy, there would be no complaint, but each take around 30-60 minutes
I took this class honors hoping to receive a positive experience and really establish the basics of integral calculus, but that is exactly the opposite of what I got with Peterson. He is extremely disorganized and expects you to know the content already. Going to class feels pointless because I just end up teaching all of the material to myself.
Scott's not an amazing teacher but he's a super nice guy. He can get disorganized or confused during lectures, especially with technology, but his lectures do help and he is very understanding of problems with hw. 90% of the hw is based on completion and he frequently adjusted deadlines or rubrics to make the load easier and curved tests.
Scott is kind, like other people have said, but I don't think he is a good professor than maybe other professors; however, the grading system for the tests is what that screws your grade up, so changing that would be better. Even if you do everything, homework, study, exams are what actually matters. Even after studying for the exam, you don't pass
Professor Peterson is great, he was always willing to meet with me and go over any questions I had, and his office hours were very accessible. The only thing is, and this is directed to OSU: who the hell decided to make VECTOR CALCULUS exams multiple choice?!? you mess up one negative sign and kiss 10 points on your exam goodbye
Mr Peterson is such a lovely human being, however, his exams are so ridiculously hard. class average was C- on every single exam. the exams arent curved and are 55% of your class grade. I didnt find his lectures very helpful and had to completely relay on the textbook and youtube videos to understand the material
His lectures were unhelpful and a waste of my time. Half of each class was spent dealing with technical issues or wasting time. The most I learned during his class was doing the Knewton Alta assignments, which always took me anywhere from 30 minutes to 5 hours each and left me feeling more angry than confident in my vector calc knowledge.
I can't understand his lecture an I noticed that he calculated a lot of things in his head which made students struggling to understand him. He is a very chill dude and he will always answer you question if you ask. He is not tech savvy so meeting him in person is better.
Didn’t learn anything from him. Had to learn everything from the textbook. Really bad with technology.
He is always late to class, does not teach, and assigns tons of assignments that only have a few hours to be completed with no explanation on how to reach the correct answer
This guy shouldnt be a professor the fact that he got hired is an embarrassment, doesn't teach half of what's on the homework. Good luck being frustrated for 6 hours straight on the homework he gives and he gives out minimum of 6 a week with other things on top of that. He cant even figure out a quarter of the things he writes on the board
The class is work is easy, the problem is almost every time a student asks a question, he'd give an answer so complex that doesn't relate to the question at all. Students would then ask the same question again for clarification, and other students would often have to answer others' questions because Scott would do such a horrendous job of teaching.
DO NOT TAKE A CLASS FROM THIS PROFESSOR. In all my years of schooling, I have never had a WORSE professor. I have gone to almost every lecture, and every single time regretted it, as most of the learning you will do, will have to be done outside of class. All he does is examples without any explanation. 0/10, please do not make the mistake.
DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH HIM. If you're looking to take integral or differential calc, take it with Sara Clark, for vector take Orum or Tevian (he's complicated but still better). He doesn't explain things well and cannot use technology. He also doesn't look at the HW before he assigns it so half the time there are problems on it you can't do.

Whatever you do, don't take any class with this professor. His lectures are the most unorganized thing ever, there is no structure he simply talks about random topic. Additionally the homework platform used achieve is awful, getting problems wrong it gives no example or even explanation, let alone being able to do the problem again.
The class was super difficult and his method of teaching did not make it any easier. He is generally unorganized and not tech-savvy at all. The homework is sometimes insanely difficult and much harder than the class covers meaning you will have to learn the material by yourself.
Scott Peterson means well, but he wasn't a good professor. His lectures were disorganized. He uses slides from another professor and seems to not know what's on them until he's presenting them in class. He doesn't know what's going to be on the test until the rest of the math department tells him. The homework is harder than what's taught in class.
By far the worst class I've ever taken. Textbook is free and online. No lectures, just links to youtube videos. Material on tests does not match material taught in textbook or homework. Every test felt like a huge curveball. No communication, constantly changing due dates, high amounts of stress. I would never take a class with him again.
I think if Scott Peterson would record some of his own lectures, the class could be a lot better. The material doesn't feel very guided. Dionysus who taught calc 1 would record lectures, and give very guided explanations of the material. Dionysus Birnbaum was awesome. With Scott Peterson's class, you're on your own without much help
Be prepared to teach yourself without a textbook because he doesn't give you access to one. He doesn't seem to go over the homework before assigning it, so there are problems on there that we haven't gone over yet in class. There have been a couple of problems that even he couldn't solve when we brought them in during class to ask for help.
Peterson from my experience was a good professor but not a great one. I believe he gave adequate resources to succeed but he could still do so much better compared to most other professors in his department. If he recorded lectures and had a better hand at explaining worked examples I think this class could be a lot better than how I experienced.
He is a awesome human but a terrible teacher unfortunately. Do NOT take him if you can.
Professor Peterson looks out for his students. During study hours, he will try to work with you as best he can so you get where you need to be. We didn't have to purchase textbooks because he made everything free for students (which is better than other classes). For me, it was just the homework load and his poor explanation of the material.
not very great at explaining concepts, but I would honestly take this class if you have prior knowledge of integral calc. He lets you redo every homework assignment and quiz, lets you use desmos on every quiz (which are take-home quizzes), and the online portion of the homework is easy. go to office hours = easiest A of your life.
He has been my 1st C since middle school. He is ruthless with both his grading and his expectations of homework. Additionally he cannot solve anything OR REMEMBER the MATH he hands out so god forbid you have a question. I was in his office hours four days a week for hours outside class. He wants master level work for an intro class. DO NOT TAKE HIM
Concepts are not explained well during class. SOME examples are done in class, but homework quickly becomes too difficult without more in-class examples. The only way you'll get the homework done is by going to his office hours twice a week. I want to like him as a professor, but he is genuinely the most confusing teacher I've had.
The way he teaches just feels disorganized. It's hard to follow along with the lectures and his Canvas page especially is hard to navigate. Overall, the work would probably be easier if he was actually teaching it well.
The class can feel disorganized at times, but with the right approach it's manageable. Unstuck study AI and the textbook helped me stay on top of the material when lectures were unclear.
Laughably bad explanations, and has an ego when you call him out for it. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
I do not like this man. Avoid him at all costs
He was super nice and accommodating. Easy to talk to during office hours and really cares about his students. He taught me a lot about how to approach math which I have continued to use and need in higher level math classes. His teaching style did not fit everyone but he helped me a lot.
Bro does not know the material
