This was my favorite class last semester. I encouraged everyone who needed a history to take it with Phipps. I made straight B's on the test but A's on the geography quizzes and ended up with an A. Attendence helps if your grade is borderline!

He's a great guy and tells great stories. I like his lectuers and hate his tests. If you study and have higher level thinking skills you can pass with a B. I got a high A, but I took his class seriously.

If he cancels class, don't expect an e-mail. I stayed 1.5hrs then found out...no class. Doesn't care if your phone rings, but don't answer it. takes roll. Be to class on time or don't enter. tests require great knowledge, know info inside out. He makes you laugh. tape recorder can be helpful.

Phipps is an awesome educator! I enjoy his class more than any history class i've ever taken in college, high school,etc. I highly recommend anyone to take his class...it's an absolute delight!

Mr. Phipps is the coolest teacher ever. He has kind of hard tests but presents the material very well during class. Study the notes and use the study guide and you should pass.

This history class is easier than the ones I've taken in high school. Class is never boring as he uses anecdotes, funny stories, etc., to relate the material. If you go to class every day, pay attention, and take notes, you should have no problems at all.

I have no idea if he's good or not. I only stayed in his class for three weeks. I have a medical problem, and his harassing the students was the factor that really made me drop. Im not one to just skip class, but I have to sometimes leave for medical reasons, and with him I knew I couldnt do that.

Dr. Phipps really gets into his lectures and they are alot of fun so there is no reason to skip. Also he makes you think alot more than any other 101 class I've had. His tests are a little harder than most 101 classes but if you pay attention and take good notes you will be fine.

The best History teacher that I have ever had!!! I took him both for 101 and 102. His class is not hard, all you have to do is study. Know the notes because he gives you the hard multiple choice test. His class never gets boring.

He is a very nice man, but he does give the hard multiple choice tests. For the final he mixes things up and gives you a hard matching test. He doesn't give any curves or bonus points but does give you the easy geography tests. Just study for all of the tests and you will do fine.

i freakin love this guy. he makes boring history interesting enough to remember. the way he words the test questions makes you think more. i usually made A's. just take good notes. he makes an effort to get to know his students and is helpful when you need it.

Phipps' tests are extremely hard!! I enjoyed his lectures b/c the guy is hilarious. The final is a KILLER!! He puts 200 matching in sets of 20. Its alot harder than you would think. Good Luck guys...

Phipps is the greatest history professor out there. I hated history with a passion before his classes, and now I still remember things just because of the way he taught them. Yes it's a hard class, but if you're going to college just to take easy classes, then don't come.

The man is HILARIOUS. I'm still taking his class, so this may not count, but to sit in his lectures is sort of like watching stand-up. Sure, he swears like a sailor, but his lectures are clear and unintimidating, like other teachers. I'll definitely be in another of his classes. I HOPE HE TEACHES FOR A LONG TIME.

He is an AWESOME teacher!! I have always hated history and always fell asleep in history class. Having Phipps as a teacher made history interesting for me, and I never wanted to fall asleep (but that could be because I was too afraid that he would embarass me!!) I would just like to tell Phipps thanks for making something so boring exciting for me and many others.

this guy is halrious! i love this class. yes, he's test are difficult at times, but his teaching method is the best i've ever had in a history teacher. it may be that i was taught by football coaches in highschool, but i hate when i have to miss his class.

If you're looking for an Easy A, take someone else. If you don't mind a lil hard work, take his class. With a lil effort I got a B the first time I took one of his classes and an A the second time. He's an absolute blast. Definitely the best History teacher on campus.

Hey Phipps, how's it goin? Anyway, Phipps is an awesome teacher! He cannot be summed up with words so I will just say, TAKE HIS CLASS!!! I had him for both 101 & 102 and made B's in both classes, barely looking at my notes. He's awesome and hilarious!! Take him & you won't regret it!!!

He is very straight-forward and gives extraordinary lectures (even when he's just ranting about the sadness of college students not knowing England's current queen or other issues that piss him off). I remember him mentioning not having a chili pepper by his name, so here it is, haha. Thanks for a great class!

Phipps is awesome. As long as you GO TO CLASS and take pretty good notes, this class should be an easy A/B. His Tests can be tough, but not as bad as he makes them out to be. His map quizzes are easy A's and will help curve your grade.

He seems intimidating at first, but he really is not. However, if you have the behavior level of a kindergartener, you may want to consider another instructor because he does NOT tolerate ignorant BS! The map quizzes are ridiculously easy, and the regular tests and final are very simple. I miss his teaching--wish he taught every class at NSU.

The only class I arrive 30 min. early for. I'm in for a treat every Tues. night. Boy, am I glad I sat in the front!! I wish I was on Mr. Phipps' list of friends outside of school. he's pretty lazy and cancells class a lot, and he loves to talk about controversial topics, especially religion. sometimes he even brings them up when they have nothing to do with what he's teaching! he seems a little arrogant, but overall is still a cool guy. he tries to scare people by saying the class is hard even though its not.

VERY interesting class. I didn't know history could be interesting until this class. If you're very sensitive to religious beliefs, don't take this class. He's not afraid to crack the religious debate wide open.

He will challenge you. BUT it is a VERY interesting class (he makes HISTORY interesting), he is a wake up call to college. He does give study guides and you have to take lecture notes. Take good notes, study, and you'll be fine. First test is the wake up call, but once you know what to expect, its not bad. will challenge religious beliefs too.

Before this class, I was not a history person. Albeit Im still not but I actually enjoyed his class. Out of my entire college career, this is the only class that I never missed or skipped. He loves his bad rep, and he does have hard tests, but with just reviewing the notes before I maintained an 85. Follow his rules though, or hell throw your phone

Scott is laid back, funny and smart. His classes are engaging and interesting. He likes cancel class on fridays so everyone can go home early. his tests are long and pretty hard, but if you pay attention in class and study you will get a good grade. He also grades his test in the bar so if you see him buy him a newcastle.

Mr. Phipp's lessons are always very engaging and literally left me wanting to hear more about history. I even changed my major because of him! You MUST go to class if you want to do well. I loved this class. He's a stickler for tardiness but does not count absences against you. But I would advise against skipping his class---he gives very detailed notes. This class is so hard, only my really smart friends did well in this class. His tests are heavy on comprehension so if you don't do well in that, don't waste your time. If you are religious you probably really won't like him because he slams every religion and is extremely rude.

A truly great and intellectual man with an inspirational sense of shame and cynicism, from which all other professors would benefit. I am addicted to his lectures--I scheduled HIST 151 on MWF next semester just to see him three days a week and would take him down the road for 300+, easily. I got a 99% but I was a rare case. Phippsy is one of those guys that, as long as you don't piss him off, will keep you entertained and engaged in the subject. Attend every class, when he teaches 368 the tests are completely different from the way he does his 100 level classes, but totally worth it. Harsh man, but he tells you at the beginning of semester, got B's both times I took him, and I wish I could take him every semester. These classes taught b him are classes that you must study for though

If you actually want to learn and have your world awakened by learning the real truth, definitely take his class! Attendance is mandatory, mainly because the test are straight from his lectures. If you show improvement, and go to class, he will help you out. If I could, I would take him again in a heartbeat.

Phipps comes off as a hard ass, but he is a very interesting person. He is great at explaining criteria in a way students will understand. NEVER fall asleep in his class. The material is hard to remember for the 200 question final, but if you get As on the Geo quiz, you might make it. He is a very knowledgable person. I plan on taking him next sem

He's a pretty great guy. His lectures are funny and informative, and are interesting. I've never had to ask for help so I don't know what he's like help-wise. Study his lectures and do the online quizzes and you'll be fine. You do get the grade you deserve. Study. And go to class.

Phipps was by far the most interesting teacher I have had. The test are challenging at the least. Many students stress over his 200 question final, but for nothing, as the final is a great and easy grade booster. I found that just retyping the notes helped prepare me for his exams the best. DO NOT SKIP. Also he gives bonus points for attendance!

Phipps is freaking hilarious. His lectures are clear and the test are somewhat difficult but come directly from what he says in class. Attendance is mandatory as well as buying the book for homework. He jokes around a lot but you always learn in his class. I will be taking another one of his course's ASAP.

I LOVE PHIPPS! He's so funny which makes lectures that could be boring really interesting. He can be harsh sometimes but follow his class rules and pay attention and you'll do fine. Many people I know said his class was hard but if you take notes and actually go to class it's not that bad. Wish I could take him again!!!

I loved Phipps! He makes the information so easy to remember and understand because of how interesting he makes his lectures. But do the quizzes, I didn't and it hurt my grade. And save all of your notes for the final!

He wastes a lot of time on just calling roll and talking about things that have nothing to do with the course. Even though he doesnt get to material becuase of his excessive time wasting, you will still be tested on it. Dont miss more than 4 classes and do good on quizes so you can try to save your crappy grade. At least he is funny tho.

First of all Phipps is the best professor ever. His 300 level class doesn't play though. You will need to work hard and know how to write superb papers and essay answers to his tests and movie critique. Despite how difficult this class was I still love Phipps and I would take him again. He is super funny and just the greatest man ever.

Scott Phipps is the most interesting teacher I've had so far. He is very passionate about what he is talking about and is very interesting to listen to. Not stoked about reading all these chapters though. I plan to take him in the future, not only because he's a great teacher, but because he is obviously a sexy wise wizard.

I love Phipps, he is such a great professor. Really knows his stuff and is very passionate about it. He also makes his lectures extremely entertaining and funny. You do have to pay close attention and take good notes, but if you study them like you're supposed to, it's an easy class. Gives bonus points. Would definitely take again.

Fantastic teacher. Extremely clear with course material. Unfortunately, tests are quite hard. Study well enough, do the online quizzes, and DON'T SKIP, and you should pass.

I absolutely loved his class. I took him for HIST 150 and 151 and will be taking him for 368. Make sure you pay attention in class. Don't be an idiot and you will get along fine with him. I highly recommend this class for all students, history majors or not.

Literally the funniest teacher ever. He makes history interesting and anyone on here that says he's a crappy teacher because his "tests are hard" literally didn't study or don't know how to. Just study and do the quizzes and you'll be fine. You don't have to study the quizzes or read the textbook the textbook is literally used to find answers.

I loved Phipps for history 151. Taking him again for 150. Anyone who enjoys a snarky teacher who picks on you guys or just overall messes with your begore class should take Phipps's course - history major or not! He's easy to get along with and answers questions as long as they're not "dumb."

The best teacher at Nicholls in my opinion. He is hilarious and very straight forward. His lectures are like stories and really easy to listen to. Gives 3 chapter tests and 2 geo quizzes. His chapter tests are easy as long as you take notes and read over them. His geo quizzes are made for middle schoolers. I don't get how people fail his class.

This man does not have an easy class. You really have to work for the grades you get. DON'T BUY THE BOOK just get the online access code with the ebook. His tests are pretty hard but if you don't do too well on them, you can build up your grade with geography and online quizzes. He also gives extra credit for attendance. I recommend him highly.

Phipps is the reason I love college. He's everything you could ever ask for in a teacher. Just attend class, pay attention and take good notes. His tests aren't as difficult as some say if you just study a little. I would take him for Watching Paint Dry 101, this guy could make that class interesting.

I enjoyed his class. It's not easy, but it's not super difficult either. There's a lot of notes that you'll have to take, and he doesn't use PowerPoint. Record his lectures to make sure you have all the information to prepare for the test. He's a fun, sarcastic teacher that makes learning history fun. The final is cumulative.

History is my worst subject, but this man made his class the light of my day. Dont even think about using your phone in his class, but also don't think about dates. He refuses to put a single date (except today's) on his tests. Pay attention to story time (the entire lecture), take notes, and record the lectures. Easiest time ive ever had in hist.

He's just the best. Personally, I felt as if I was getting free entertainment rather than attending a class. My advice on an A is to SHOW UP, write down everything he says (you wont have trouble paying attention and he lets you record if you ask,) do your side assignments online, and memorize your map for the geo quizzes. TAKE HIM!

This is by far the best class I've ever taken. If you show up, take notes, and study them, you should have no problem passing this course. You can tell that Mr. Phipps truly cares about history by the way that he teaches it. With humor and passion, he makes his lectures interesting and easy to remember.

He has a hard grader

The tests are hard, but the lectures are amazing. He is really passionate about history. You don't need the book, but do need the access code for the online homework, there is an e-textbook there. There are good quizlets to help you with his tests, reading the chapter is recommended because the lectures don't cover all of the material on the tests

Really good teacher. He explains things well and is really passionate about what he teaches. He also cares about your grade only if you show that you care too. Attendance doesn't matter, but you get extra credit by skipping less than 3 classes. Not a lot of homework, just the quizzes that are due online every Friday. I would take him again

He is a good teacher. His lectures are very interesting, but being I'm not good at History, even though I studied like a crazy person, I couldn't make better than a C on any of his test. Just going to class for the extra points, doing the online quizzes & passing the GEO quizzes you can finish the class with a B. I personally wouldn't retake again

If you take his class, you won't regret it!!! He is so passionate about what he teaches and his lectures as so entertaining, you will laugh literally every class. You get extra credit for showing up to class and from the online quizzes. He has 3 chapter tests, 2 geo quizzes, and a 200 question all matching final. Record his lectures, take notes!!!

If you keep politics away from Phipps, youll be alright

I took this class for dual enrollment and Im glad I did. I absolutely love phipps. He is truly a gem. He makes history so fun and I literally laughed every single class. Record his lectures, study for geo, take online quizzes and you will succeed. I passed his class with a 103%! Bonus opportunities are endless. I will definitely miss his class.

Test are from his lectures. Makes test difficult but give a lot of bonus points. Class is not mandatory but if you dont miss more than 4 classes he give you 30-40 extra points. His lectures are very good and his stories are entertaining.

He is very opinionated, but if you look past that... he is super funny and just a huge goofball. I completely disagree with his political and religious beliefs, but still enjoyed the class and I am taking him again spring 2019. STUDY for tests. study THE DAY you get new notes and you will make A's.
