Scott is such an amazing professor. Not only does he care about every student and how they are doing in his class but if you have a personal problem he's there. His class is very fun and makes you feel welcomed and comfortable. He is also the funniest man I've ever met. He will also help you out with your speeches!! 11/10
One of the best professors I've had so far. He is super funny and relatable. He is clear about what he expects and he is very encouraging. He also plays bomb music before class starts each day. I would take all of his classes if possible. 11/10 recommend
Amazing professor! Really cares about his students and is incredibly relatable. His office hours are convenient, and the work load is decently light and fair. Overall a fantastic professor and i would definitely recommend!
Great professor for someone who needs to know exactly what is going on at any given time. The syllabus is clear and everything from lectures to the book itself is quite interesting. Sometimes the professor doesn't agree with the book which is a nice way to open up real dialogue between classmates. Would take again if I needed the credits.
Scott is great, and definitely one of the best professors I've had. He is funny, and that keeps his lectures interesting. He's leads discussions well when both groups tend to clash. He goes above and beyond what anyone has ever done for me in my college career, it mean't a lot that he cared! I would highly highly recommend!
Professor Plambek is the best! He makes it very clear in the syllabus what to expect during the semester. The class discussions are enlightening: they give the opportunity to hear other peoples' point of view and also to understand different concepts and ideas presented in the text. Also worth mentioning: FANTASTIC sense of humor. Such a fun class!
The class was pretty good. I just felt like it was a lot of "busy work" for instance reading comprehensions and self reflections. He is a good guy though and overall would recommend. Also be prepared for public speaking, 3 times.
Do not take any other teacher, he is THE BEST! Hes young so hes super goofy & relatable. I HATE presenting, so much where Ill shake and my face will turn red. I Was not even nervous when I presented, he makes the class so comfortable and everyone becomes friends. Hes super understanding. I loved him ! Id take him again if i could
hes a really good coms teacher. he does lectures in class but doesn't post it anywhere else so, you HAVE to attend in order to know what's going on in class and the next speech you'll give. textbook for outlines. he does activities and usually they'd end class quickly. good professor. would take again!
He is an amazing professor and I am so glad I was in his class. He cares a lot about your understanding of the course, and is very easy to talk to. He can be very funny and loves to explain anything you may have a question about! Take advantage of the office hours and do your best!
He is one of the few good professors! Takes the concepts from the reading assignments and uses real world examples in class discussions. If I had to take another communications class I would try to get him as the professor again!
I had him for an intersession sped up course and it was non-sarcastically a great use of my winter break!! I just started this semester and my professors are so unbearingly boring in comparison... Really makes you think and open up your mind. I miss that class already lol
This is the most hilarious professor you will ever meet. TAKE HIM. He is so so so so funny. I would attend the class just to listen to him talk and be funny. You won't regret taking him. He teaches with a low power distance. Really young and knows how to be relatable. He's also really fair. He understands the student struggles!
What I appreciated about Professor Plambek is how organized he is. He is very clear about what you need to do in each assignment for you to get full credit on it. As long as you do the work you will definitely pass. I won't say it's an easy A but getting an A is possible and depends on the student. He is not a boring professor.
He's by far my favorite professor! He's really funny and keeps the class interesting. If you have to take Coms 103, take his class! (plus he's also pretty attractive)
Scott is such an awesome professor. I love him, he's super funny and he makes this class really easy to pass. He gives you chances to get comfortable in front of the class. We only had to do the minimum required amount of speeches that every COMS class has to have. Follow his directions and there's no way you won't get an A. I suggest you take him!
Amazing guy. Professor Plambek is such an awesome teacher and he's funny too. He does assign assignments that require a textbook, but they're not too hard. Just do the work and you're golden. Love him
Scott is the best! He's got a great sense of humor, makes the class all the more entertaining. Advanced Public Speaking sounded intimidating at first, but Scott made it a lot less overwhelming. He's very encouraging, and he's also clear about his expectations. He's also just a really great person to talk to. Take advantage of his office hours!
Scott is an amazing professor. I love his style of teaching. It never gets dull and repetitive. Because of the way he structured his class everyone got very comfortable around one another, so we could present our speeches with confidence. Would definitely recommend taking his class, you won't regret it!
I am the type of person to NEVER right a review (good or bad) on anything! but I am making an exception. Scott is an absolute amazing teacher! He is fun, caring, and everything he talks about is so easy to learn! I'm sad because I can't write more good things about this Professor! If you aren't good at English I recommend taking this class!
He's just a super fun guy. He explains his expertise extremely well and enthusiastically. Communications classes are extremely interesting to me so it was a much more fun lecture class to be in, because of the discussion based learning. The exams, speeches/papers were very minimal but I would imagine these fluctuate between Communication classes.
Everyone loves Scott, and for good reason. This guy is awesome. He makes everyone in his classes feel comfortable enough to get in front of everyone and be loud and out there. He's so funny and so nice. He's really inclusive and always does his best to be helpful to everyone in the class. Honestly my favorite teacher. You won't regret his class
This guy is one of the gems of SDMC, he deserves the credit. Clear about the course and flexible on class material when needed. He is committed to making sure you have the tools to pass the pass. One of the most interactive and fun classes on campus... wish I found him earlier.
Scott is one of the best teachers I've ever encountered! His syllabus is pinpoint accurate, and the assignments are easy to understand. He has files online with clear rubrics and even templates and examples. If you need help, he's super open with his office hours and easy to email. Even if you have a hard time with speaking he will be kind.
I hated coms before taking his interpersonal communication class. He is AMAZING! He is super funny and has the most interesting stories and lecture ever!!! Want an "A" work for the "A" just like any other class. Just take him.
I had Scott right as we had to switch to online classes because of quarantine. This is my second class with him, and he remains my all-time favorite teacher. He genuinely cares about his students and tries his hardest to make sure everyone has an easy time learning. His online course, put together last minute, was as great as his in-person course
Scott is the definition of quirky and hilarious. He provides examples for what is expected for assignments. The class was the honors course and had 3 exams, 5 papers, 2 speech outlines, and 3 speeches. It was a lot of fun and he made transitioning to online courses during COVID very easy.
None of his lectures are boring (coming from me who absolutely hates regular lectures). Even with the most boring class ever, he'll make it fun and interactive. Best professor I ever had. Hands down!
Great professor. Video lectures were great! He was very clear about assignments. Gave great feedback and comments. Online code is definitely needed.
Easily the best professor that I have had this entire pandemic. Modules are neat & organized (unlike other asynchronous courses)& lectures are straightforward. Workload is easy w/ 1 module a week consisting of discussions or short open-book quiz. 3 speeches in total. Plambeck actually cares about his students & is very accommodating
This class was actually very enjoyable. He gives great feedback that honestly helps you improve in your following speeches. The class consists of three recorded speeches, the written speech (which he gives you an easy format to follow), and open-book quizzes. The quizzes are very easy as long as you watch his lectures and read the book.
Prof. Plambek came highly recommended so I waited until I could get into one of his classes and it was WORTH THE WAIT. He is an amazing teacher, gives great lectures, and always answers questions. Attendance and tardiness do matter but in 8-weeks of course it's important. Not much hw in the 8week, as long as you put the effort in you will do fine.
I do not like speaking in front of people at all since I tend to stutter. Although I stuttered in speeches in this class, Prof. Plambek didn't seem to notice and gave great feedback. There wasn't a lot of work to do but he made the modules easy to follow. I felt confident in his class even though I would be nervous for every speech.
He is the best professor I have ever had at Mesa. He is such a caring professor who takes the time and actually cares about your speech. If you're nervous about taking a communications class definitely take him because he gives the best advice and helps you better your skills. I wish I could take him for every communication class. BEST PROF EVER
Super chill professor. Very knowledgeable and accepting of all students. Do the work, don't do it late, you'll get the A. Creates a very comfortable and open environment for public speaking. Overall great Professor and wish I was a communications major to take more of his classes.
Professor Plambek is high-spirited and fun. He's very clear about what's required in his assignments-- if you listen to his directions and take this class seriously you should get an A. His lectures are very thorough and he's a fun person. I'd definitely take him again.
Professor Plambek is easily the best professor I've ever had. I took COMS 101 and COMS 135 with him and I have never been more confident in my speaking and communication. He's absolutely hilarious and really cares for his students. Wish he was teaching my other coms classes I need to take!
Literally the best professor i've ever had. Had 3 hour lectures and loved every second of them! Accessible outside of class and reasonable assignments. Jump on the chance to take any of his classes.
Professor Scott is very easy going, understanding, and gives great feedback. Prior to taking this class I was very nervous about taking a communication class but his class was very enjoyable and easy to follow. He has office hours which are great for attending and asking him to proof read any outlines before submitting. Overall, I recommend!!!
Professor Plambek was definitely the best professor I've ever had. His lectures are super engaging and fun. I was super nervous about a public speaking class; however, he made the class really engaging and lightened the concept of public speaking which helped us a lot when delivering speeches. I would definitely recommend taking one of his classes.
I was nervous about taking a communications class my first year of college, but Professor Plambek made it easy and super fun! He gives amazing feedback and is always available. He gives opportunities to improve grade on outlines. 3 Speeches, 2 outlines and 2 exams. I thoroughly enjoyed this class and was actually sad when it was over!
Professor Scott was truly one of the best professors I took this semester. I had him for coms 103 but he also took the time to help me with other speeches I had to give outside of class. He is always available for a Zoom meeting to help you out or just talk. I had to give 3 speeches in his class but he walked us through every one. Take him!!
Prof. Plambek is awesome. His approach to teaching is laidback, yet effective; his lectures are easy to follow & promote discussion/creative thinking; he is hilarious & personable, yet professional. No busy work, and the work that is assigned receives thoughtful & thorough feedback. Public speaking fears or not, his Coms 103 class is great!
His class is more work than most coms 103 professors give. Be prepared to write 5 page outlines in apa format for each speech. Uses an expensive book when most coms prof do not. His canvas modules are kind of everywhere, labeled oddly, slightly hard to follow. He makes a simple class a lot of work, there are better prof options for this class.
Super mellow, just take the class.
Professor Plambek is such a caring and educated professor. He always takes the time to explain things and always leaves room for students' opinions, personalities, and participation to shine through. None of the work was unreasonable and didn't stress me out. Professor Plambek creates an open class environment that is perfect for everyone.
Professor Scott is a such a nice and compassionate man. He is also very deranged, but in the best way. We had two professors this semester and they both helped build a community in the class, which was so beautiful and special. Show up, take notes, do your work on time, be respectful, and try your very best to get through the 3 speeches + 2 exams!
If you are someone like me, I hate public speaking but this professor was so kind and patient. He is very understanding and if you try, you will get a good grade. He also has a sense of humor. Would not take a comma class AGAIN but definitely take another class with him.
Loved this class! Super easy, just pay attention during lectures and you'll do great!
I hate public speaking but prof Plambek does an amazing job at providing confidence and helpful tips. Luckily I took the class over zoom which made it easier. He is very encouraging and super understanding. Very chill professor, allows you to pick your own speech topics.
Just listen to the lectures you should be fine. The only problem I had was that I was having trouble accessing canvas for my assignments and he was not understanding that and gave me a 0 for that assignment which affected my grade.
As a Miramar College student, I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS PROFESSOR. He's such an enthusiastic professor. He has a good sense of humor, and he was one of the most lenient professors I'd ever taken. The final project he assigned was actually good. He did pretty well teaching his students.
Professor Plambek is really nice. As long as you do your work you'll get an A. I don't understand the bad reviews if you show you want an A he'll help you get that. Advice: interacting with classmates makes you feel less awkward to give speeches! (my class was awkwardly quiet which was ironic for a comms class). Plambek also gives good feedback.
Professor Plambek is awesome. He really made taking a summer COMS 103 enjoyable. If you just show up and do the work required that you signed up to do you will easily get at least a B. Fun guy to be around and was very fair.
This professor cares for his students and it shows. He made public speaking bearable. Some lectures are unavoidable, but he makes them interesting and is good at keeping everyone engaged. I wish every professor was like him. Just make sure you take your time on outline and try your best to prepare for speeches and you should be good.
Hands down the best prof I have ever taken. I have never seen a prof care as much as he does. He shows up to every class happy and excited to teach and pushes those who are scared of public speaking to overcome their fear. I highly recommend him as he is super accessible out of class and wants everyone to have a great end result. TAKE HIS CLASS!!
TAKE HIS CLASS! I'm serious, he is my favorite college professor I've ever had. His lectures are entertaining, relatable, and he somehow makes a public speaking class not scary. I was nervous about taking a coms class but I didn't need to be after taking his class. 100/10, you will enjoy his class!
With his online class, lectures drop off halfway through the class. He's alright, though.
Great professor, knows most people are taking this for as a general education requirement and makes it as easy as possible for everyone to get through the class, but still is serious about the material and encouraging people to be better public speakers. He's also really funny and relatable, if you have the opportunity to take his class, do it!
He is the surfer bro uncle I always wanted. Worst part about the class was I only got to experience him for 8 weeks cuz he was busy becoming a dad. Need to take coms but nervous about public speaking? Take this class. Great feedback, clear directions, thoughtful lectures. What more could you want. Put in some effort and you're guaranteed an A
Indisputably the best professor I had at Mesa. Class is always enjoyable, you can tell he cares about his students. Light workload, and lots of wiggle room for speeches so you can talk about what you want most of the time. The G.O.A.T.
Great Professor. I do wish that he held students to a higher standard with topic choices and such but it's an easy class
I took this class over the summer and honestly had no idea what I even signed up for until showed up and realized I had to give speeches.. I was mortified LOL However, I'm so thankful I ended up there because he truly is one of the most amazing professors I have ever had. I learned so much/became so much more confident because of him. He's the best
Professor Plambek is one of the kindest and best professors you will ever have. He is available to help you edit your speeches or look over your speeches. He makes lectures very interesting and easy to understand.
Professor Plambeck is super funny. His class is super easy and he gives no homework which is really appreciated due to the fact that the papers required to pass this class are about 7 pages long! Lol, but Professor Plambeck is really good at making this fun and easy breezy. I would definitely take his class again.
I took Professor Scott during winter intermission this year. I came in with the mindset that it would be a lot of working since it's a short course. I loved his lectures! he is hilarious and caring with his students. He made time in class to help with the outlines for our presentations. He also made us feel better about presenting. I RECOMMEND!
Great professor! He truly cares about his students, and tries his best to make the class enjoyable. It was never a boring moment, and I liked how he was able to make speech-giving less terrifying. His lectures are funny, and I feel more confident in my speaking skills. Great semester, definitely my favorite class!
If you are scared of public speaking and don't think you can do a speech in front of a class TAKE HIM he is so funny and super chill. I had horrible anxiety for public speaking and this class helped a lot to get over it. 10/10 class.
Amazing professor. Incredibly funny. Understands how awful public speaking can be for some people. Cares a lot, super welcoming environment, incredibly thorough feedback for every assignment, very chill and laid back. Not a coms major so genuinely a bit sad ill probably never take a class with him again. Cannot recommend enough.
Although I was skeptical of this class at first, prof Plambek ended up being one of my favorites. He is very understanding, respectful, funny, and encouraging. He gives great feedback and allows lots of creative freedom with the speeches
Very cool & funny dude - He's kind of a stickler when it comes to accomodations so be prepared to advocate for yourself & provide proof of need a lot
By far my favorite class that I have taken. He is very chill, always brings in good vibes. It was a summer semester so we were always busy giving speeches but he made it so chill and always cracked jokes. I was terrified of public speaking but he made it easy for us and helped us get over that fear of Public Speaking.
Scott is a great professor who cares about student success. his course policies are very fair and easy to understand. he is a really chill guy. i have recommended him to classmates and friends. 10/10
I took Scott's 8 week course over the summer and it was great! He's an outstanding professor with good lectures and clear grading criteria. There were only 3 speeches total for the semester with him providing detailed feedback on how to improve on each one. He genuinely cares and is evident through his attention to detail.anyway stream Chappel Roan
super chill yet professional guy. makes everything from the syllabus, agenda, and grading criteria very easy to understand. very sympathetic and helpful to those who HATE public speaking, and I think he said that he designed the class specifically to benefit those who hate public speaking. Can't recommend him enough
Really prof, took him for coms 135 and class was easy as long as you put effort and time to do his discussions and journals. Had3-4 hws everyweek including 1 quiz and those were easy to do, they are not time consuming to do. Really strict on late policies so be aware of that. There's no really tests but u had to present ab a topic as your "finals"
Scott was an awesome professor. He truly cares about his students success and wants what is best. Super chill
Professor Scott is a great and hilarious dude , he really cares about his students and gave us a bunch of advices to succeed and enjoy our life in college. He is aware that most people have trouble with public speaking so he will do his best to encourages students and make them comfortable in the class. I highly suggest taking this professor.
I just completed his intersession class. He is an amazing teacher, funny, and delivers the material in a way that everyone gets it. Without a doubt, I would choose him as my teacher for any speech or communication class.
The best professor I've ever had! Grading criteria is always clear, his lectures are interesting and he's hilarious. Truly cares about students succeeding and connects with students well
absolutely amazing professor! I highly recommend this teacher if you're afraid of public speaking (as many of us are) he makes the class a very comfortable environment. If you do your assignments on time and show up with a positive attitude you will not have any problems. I can't speak more highly of him.
easy class, easy grading, and nice professor but his class fell apart after spring break when most quizzes had questions that didn't reflect materials and only fixed after students notified him.We also took a midterm and final that didn't count towards our grade because he made a mistake and forgot to delete them from Canvas and never apologized.
Professor Plambek was great. He did a great job structuring the class to get everyone comfortable speaking in public. There were only three speeches in the class, and by the last one, everyone got much more comfortable talking in front of everyone else. It also helped that Professor Plambek had a nice personality that was fun to be around.
Scott can be engaging in class, but I found his approach to “teaching” to be intrusive. Office hour meetings were not helpful or focused on my academic goals. I highly advise that you work on assignments independently. In my experience, his class became increasingly uncomfortable throughout the semester. I cannot recommend him in good conscience.
Professor Scott was a great professor and he really made me confident in public speaking by the end of the semester. Great class to take if you need a coms credit but don't love public speaking. His exercises help a lot. There are 3 speeches and the quizzes are pretty easy. Great professor and great guy, always available for extra help.
I didn't want to take a public speaking class, but Plambek made it great experience. He helped me write my outlines and practice speeches during office hours, which made me feel more confident. You do a lot of work, but he makes it fun so it feels easy. By the end of the semester, his class was like a family. Very comfortable. Highly recommend.
Funny and laidback professor. Weekly quizzes that were fairly easy and answers accessible through the textbook, 3 speeches throughout the semester, 2 of which needing a submitted outline. He gives good criticism and makes you feel confident about speaking regardless of your skill level. You will do fine!
Professor Scott is definitely one of the few professors on campus who is extremely understanding. As students we dont always have control over situations outside of our education, Scott goes above and beyond on how understanding and flexible he is with our lives events. This was my second time taking his class and I would do it again best professor
Very good professor. Tests are simple and everything on them is on the lecture slides. Only thing that irked me was the final speech which he prepared us well for and grades very leniently on. He is also a very caring and understanding professor, even asking for any preferences on your name or anything else just to make sure you are not offended.
Best professor I've had clear, engaging, and genuinely cares about students. Made the class enjoyable and easy to learn. Highly recommend.i couldn't imaigine taking this class with anyone else trust me if you have to take a class his class is so easy
One of the best professors I've had. He's extremely caring about his students and really wants everyone to understand and succeed. Has a more laidback, low stress learning environment, but don't mistake that for him not being knowledgeable, he really knows his stuff. Not that this matters academically, but he is veryyyy easy on the eyes as well!
