Professor Rohrer knows his subject very well. It is a writing intensive course but I would not suggest his class. It is not interesting and it was hard for me to pay attention in his class.
So, in this class what you put into it is what you get out of it. He offers tons of extra credit and the majority of your grade is being attentive in class and participating in discussion, as well as attendance, and quizzes. I recieved a C and a B on major papers but yet ended with an A in the class, so its pretty easy just tedious.
This professor knows A LOT about History, but is so smart that sometimes he is hard to understand. The class is very tedious, but if you keep up with the readings and ALL of the assignments, go to class, and participate you will do well. It's writing intensive so be prepared for that. I would reccommend this professor, though.
You will work yourself to death if you want an A or B. He loves to catch you on fine print details and penalizes heavily if you miss even one class.
Was not expecting an A in his class, but if you just do what he tells you to , it is not hard to do well. 12% extra credit for perfect attendance ( bring in a percription if you are sick and miss class and he will exuse it) and another 12% for reading handouts that he posts on ANGEL, seriously, just do what he says and he gives you the grade!
He knows the subject extremely well, and I would recommend him ONLY if you are a dedicated student. He's great, and there is a ton of extra credit to take advantage of, but there are other professors who teach the same subject and require less work from you. I liked him, but I wish I didn't have so much work from his class.
His instructions are not clear at all. His weekly emails are five pages long and you have to weed through them to get to the basic 5 points. His motto, "Do what good students do," is patronizing. Students complained to each other all the time. They dropped out of his class like flies. Not a good sign. Don't know why he received good points on here.
Didn't care about what your papers written about. Only cared if they were in his format, super strict with writing will tell you what to fix then still count as wrong. AVOID AT ALL COST.
He wants this a certain way and if it is not his way YOU WILL FAIL. He keeps open office hours, so take advantage of his willingness to do line by line edits (grades go way up) and extra credit. He does not care about what you write because his classes are about developing your own perspective and participation. Great professor, be willing to WORK.
Honestly not as bad as people on here make it seem. He gives up to 12 points extra credit gives you extra credit whenever you stop by his office to ask for help. Responds to e-mails quickly. Lectures are long and boring and he likes to give pop quizzes. Also, there are 2 VERY long papers that are a big part of your grade. Pretty decent guy.
This class was terrible. He answered ur questions with an explanation of how the Earth turns on its axis. U will have 3 major grades, and I put in a good amount of effort on them, and only achieved one passing grade (B). The passfail ratio is about 1:4. U have to do everything perfect, or you will fail. He WILL NOT tell u exactly what ur grade is.
This class was horrible. There are 3 main assignments which are almost impossible to do. He tells students to go to his hours but it feel pointless because he does not give any feedback. He will also not tell you you're grade and does not put anything through canvas. If you do not have full course load then go for it. be prepared to really work.
This class is extremely demanding. He requires you to read an approximate of 70 pages per week. He has three major assignments an ID term exam, and two long papers. He gives extra credit through the reading and for taking notes in class. You must go to his office hours every week. He is a smart guy. If you have to dedicate yourself, take him.
Professor Rohrer isn't a nightmare, but he': also not a good dream. He is the kind of professor that will never tell you your exact percentage or letter grade in his class. You really need to be dedicated and focused to do good in this class. It's not impossible, but it will surely keep you on your toes for 17 weeks.
Prof Rohrer was the best professor I have had so far at FGCU. If you do the things good students do you will get the grade good students get. TONS of extra credit. 3 major assignments. If you pay attention in class you will get an A. Prof Rohrer CARES; he cares about history and his students. Take advantage of his office hours!
3 major assignments. 1 really intricate term test and two MASSIVE PAPERS!!! Both in excess of 13 pages. Massive amounts of reading. Very liberal thoughts by this guy. Does not care who you are. His class lectures go off on a tangent. As with everyone else who rievewed this guy, please if reading and writing isnt your thing, turn away from Scott.
He knows what he's talking about but sometimes takes it too far and doesn't answer questions clearly. If you do the reading and take good notes (make sure to date lectures) the exams won't be too hard. Lots of extra credit so read the handouts and emails. Also take advantage of his office hours and TAs. I did all of this and passed with an A.
This class requires 25-50 pages of reading a night. Lots of writing. My TA was the only reason I passed.
I took Professor Rohrer for AMH 2020. As a history major I figured this class would be a breeze. no. I wrote a 21 page, well researched, and awesome paper for him and still received a B. He is absolutely horrible. I would NEVER take him again. DO NOT TAKE HIM. I did receive an A but I lost way too much sleep over this class to recommend him.
Dr. Rohrer definitely knows his information. He's sort of quirky, but still personable and easy to talk to. You will have textbook readings everyday, as well as, handouts, interpretive essays, and the sources collection textbook to read. If you aren't a history fanatic I would not recommend Dr. Rohrer. No final, one exam, and two 3,000+ word papers
He is a harsh grader but if you see him during his office hours to discuss the assignments you will get an A. There were no tests in both of the classes I took with him, just papers due, some of which you needed to find a book and analyze it. There was a lot of reading & writing but if you do the extra credit & don't procrastinate you will succeed.
I had his class and at he is honestly not a welcoming teacher. I will give credit where credit is due, he knows his stuff, but he would go on and on (about 14 pages of instructions) about a simple task that can be summed up into 1 sentence. He does have pop quizzes and a few test. If you like to do extra work, this is the class for you. NEED BOOKS!
Class is braindead easy assuming youre not lazy as hell. Gives more weight to following format than actual content - dont worry about actually having to learn history. If he has the choice between talking about the Vietnam war or Sex he usually will go with the latter. Dont let him scare you, just follow what he says and youre guaranteed an A.
He had his ups and downs. His lectures are interesting, but the weekly readings were brutal. The essays were the worst thing. I think the extra credits literally saved my grade. If you take him, make sure to complete all extra credit and to participate. Also, visit his office hours to ask him how youre doing regarding your grades.
Literally one of the best history professors at FGCU. He is accommodating and friendly when going to his office hours. Yes, he pushes you further than any professor would ever. The texts are long but provided a lot of insight information on the topic. The extra credit that he offered is insane. He allowed people to redo their papers, at least three times. Participation matters.
After seeing the reviews of rohrer in the beginning of fall 2017, i wanted to switch but unfortunately the other classes were filled. Over time, i learned to love this class. yes he is hard on students, but its for the best. Not only have i learned so much but i am now left with excellent habits that are helping me in the classes i am taking now
Dr. Rohrer made history a drag. He assigned more homework than my Chem 2, Bio 2, and both of the labs for those classes combined. His favorite phrase is "do what good students do", yet he won't even attempt to do what a good professor should do. Please, for your sanity and well being, never take this course no matter what.
He knows what he's talking about, and if this class is a part of your major then you should definitely take it. But if you're just looking for an easy A, forget about it. He will give you hours of reading, and give pop quizzes. Way too much work for someone who is majoring in math/ He does give a lot of extra credit, though, which definitely helps
Yes it's a hard class. Yes he makes you work for it. Yes he tells you EXACTLY how to pass the class. He will go out of his way to proofread your paper before you turn it in for a grade. Requires non traditional methods to consume the readings. When you have 1000 pages in grad school per week, the skills you learn in this class are invaluable.
Professor Roher is the type of teacher that will contradict statements and have things run on longer than it should. He talks on how you must have precise. short paragraphs, but even he doesnt follow through. He made someone who adores history regret liking it, and making them redecide their major (which originally was History). Do not recommend.
Dr. Rohrer is a good professor but he really makes you work for it. There's a lot of reading every day. He is willing to work with you if you visit his office hours but this class has drained me and taken up all of my time. I don't have any time for my other classes at all. His essay instructions are very lengthy and confusing. Don't recommend.
There is a 12-page final paper due at the end of the semester that Dr. Rohrer won't tell you the length of until the end of the semester. Please, for your own well being don't take this class. So much reading, he acts as if you have no other classes. He speaks in riddles. You have to decode everything he says.
Dr. Rohrer appears to lean on the sort of teacher that does not wish to move away from the archaic way of teaching, and definitely needs to take a Public Speaking class to learn how to make his teaching at least somewhat interesting so that students learn something. Monotone voice, horrid teaching, hard papers, all equal a terrible class experience
I really enjoyed this course. Yes, you have a LOT of reading with Dr. Rohrer, and he's a tough grader with minimal assignments, but he does offer many extra credit opportunities and is very accessible outside of class. Class was discussion based with many activities to facilitate conversation. I just wish there were more background lectures.
Very boring lectures that usually resulted in him rambling off topic. Doesn't put grades in until after the final exam. Gives an insane amount of readings to do at home.
Knows the stuff. Doesnt know how to teach it. Like at all. Plus, final exam + a 12 or more page essay that will leave you devoid of any joy from class.
If you value your mental sanity. Do not take. Speaks riddles Instead of explanations for what you dont understand. Find another class to take.
Top 2 of worst professors Ive ever had! He has something called an ID exam that requires upward of 40-60 hours to study for and that it you do it quick. The general amount of work you have is around 40 pages of outside sources, around 30 pages of textbook, and anywhere from 10-30 pages of textbook sources (ID not even included)
I liked his method of teaching. He is very strict and gives a lot of reading but he is also very generous if you do what's required. If you want an easy A with a minimum effort this is not for you, on the other hand his class is for you if you want a teacher who makes you think, who shows you a new way to look at what surrounds you.
Horrible professor likes everything his specific way he does not put in grades for canvas till the end of the semester very tough grader 12 page paper at the end of the semester tons of readings and pop quiz boring lectures ends up rambling on makes you go to his module for office hours weather
Don't be discouraged by some of these reviews. YES, the class is HARD and it's A LOT of work, but I learned A TON of skills that are invaluable for college students. I'm a better writer and historian because of him - Key to success: utilize his office hours! The man is very intelligent and won't hesitate to help those who reach out to him.
If you want to turn a 3 credit hour class into a full time job than youve found your man.
If you value your sanity, do not take this class with this professor. He has to be one of the worst professors I have ever had. The amount of work he makes you do for this class is literally like having a full-time job. He doesn't really teach much in class, and he really cares more about formatting and points than the actual content. Worst class.
Just dont take him! Awful stay away he will make your semester miserable!
Just DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Avoid at all cost, lectures are dry and boring. His essay and final essay exams are both a pain. Do yourself a favor and listen to me. Unless you are a history major take Government instead, take it online
This was the hardest professor Ive ever taken and I did not learn any facts about actual history. All I know about are themes in history but I have no idea what actually happened or when. He has 12+ page papers and gives insane amounts of homework. Do not not take this class with this professor. Extra credit is the only plus.
Dr. Rohrer is a nice guy and caring professor, but his class always seemed a little unstructured. He would assign heavy readings and expect a discussion in class but it was mostly just him talking. His emails were always very lengthy and could have been shortened tremendously. His canvas wasnt the most clear and didnt update it often.
Please, I beg you. Save yourself. I have been a straight A student from kindergarten to junior year of college. Scott Rohrer is the worst teacher I have ever experienced. Horrible experience throughout the entire semester. Please, save yourself.
Field trips were online and we would do a short report answering questions about the "trip." The "lecture" portion of class involved a weekly synchronous discussion board where we answered questions about that week's readings and things we learned or found surprising etc. Prof. Rohrer cares about the students and is VERY understanding.
Instructions are very long and hard to understand. EC opportunities hidden within the 20 pg readings. No meet times /lectures, just info posted in the modules. 3 major assignments,(2 being 10-12 pg essays) readings, discussions, instructions, quizzes, and study time required for it all add up to at least 20 hrs weekly. Smart & nice guy, hard class.
Wow people can be so mean. I took Dr Rohrer American History class and really enjoyed it. Sure he is strict and he micro manage stuff a bit but you will learn A LOT. His classes are COLLEGE LEVEL. if you need a high school teacher who will let you sleep in class this isn't for you.
I am pretty sure I had a "D" in his class all the way up until the end. He is extremely knowledgeable on the topics he teaches and has high expectations for his students. His class is tough, but fair. He always keeps the pressure on you. I loved how his class was discussion based. I always made sure to have a slew of questions. If not, Boring.
If you don't like reading or doing homework this class is not for you. He micromanages everything but his lectures are captivating.
SOOOO much reading!!!!!! Tests are to hard, so much work for just one class. My other classes combined are less work than this one class.
Lots of reading. Participation is mandatory and is for part of grade. Big part of work are basically vocab words but much more extensive, but they can be used for extra credit, tests, and quizzes. Also gives a lot of chances for extra credit. Definitely makes you work for a good grade, but it isn't too hard. Do what he tells you and you will pass.
Don't take him if you don't have to. We had a few papers throughout the semester and he is a tough grader on them. He grades and gives feedback line by line. He also takes forever to grade them. He doesn't input our grades either. It's the end of the semester and I don't even know my grade in the class. Take someone else.
Dr Rohrer did not make it easy, but he made it clear what you need to do to pass. It is not impossible but it is a lot of work. Make sure to do the readings and write down everything he says during lectures. If you don't want to put in the work then don't take him. He really does go out of his way to help you succeed. Not a bad guy; tougher class.
He embeds a lot of extra credit in the reading materials. Participate in class because it is a helpful part of his grading system. This class is quite a bit of work but once you have a system down it is near impossible to fail his class. He doesn't make your grade visible but try and find all of the extra credit and you should be fine.
Unnecessarily difficult for colloquium, just take someone else instead.
Honestly, he's a nice guy and he tries but he just rambles for hours about who knows what. You'll ask him a question and never get a clear answer and he does not grade assignments normally. He is a tough grader on top of that, so if you have the option, do not take his class.
Objectively the worst history professor I've ever had. He refused to let canvas calculate our grades, saying we should make an Excel to do it for us. Has a 27 pg. syllabus that still can't clearly explain assignments. Writes 3, 5 page emails a day talking about nothing instead of grading. 3 pages of busy work due weekly. Do NOT take him
This is coming from someone who loves History, and I can say this guy is awful. He is extremely boring during lectures and gives a ridiculous amount of readings. On top of that, he grades harshly, so even if you read everything and listened to him like a hawk, you'd still struggle to get a decent grade. Take government instead.
ive seen a lot of bad reviews on rohrer, but if you've taken a legitimate college class before, you should be able pass class. though overwhelming in the beginning, what class isnt? as long as you dedicate yourself to this class, you'll have no trouble. and so much extra credit. very interesting class. gr8 prof. dont take if u hate reading.
Worst professor I've ever taken. Lectures are awkward and boring. He doesn't know how to actually answer questions, he will just talk in circles and will never admit he's wrong. Horrible grader, takes forever and is beyond nit picky in the way he grades. If you don't word things exactly how he would, you'll lose points. He's a nightmare, run.
Legit the worst professor ever. He grades your essay like you are writing it for an English class and counts points off when you have too many quotes in your essay but you are required to have sources. Make it make sense. It is almost impossible to get a good grade on your essay because he will find things wrong with it to take points off.
He makes colloquium way harder than it has to be. Even though there is not much homework he grades very tough. Do not take him if you do not have to, he is awful.
Lectures are long and aimless; half of the time, I learn nothing. When he grades papers, he focuses less on content and more on grammatical errors, he always finds something dumb to nitpick. Upon coming back from the Hurricane Ian break, he had an assignment due the FIRST DAY BACK, which was in super poor taste. I really don't recommend him.
i still believe rohrer was a phenomenal professor. he gave insane amounts of E.C, and let our highest exam score be the percentage for all three. if u failed this class, its not because you weren't given the opportunity to pass with flying colors. im also a student who dealt with life issues that left me occupied, but he was insanely understanding
I hate to say it but the #1 reason students dropped/failed this class is because of laziness. Sure, Rohrer assigns lots of homework and he's a tough grader but he also gives more extra credit and resubmission opportunities than any other professor. If you take advantage of all the "gifts" he gives it's near impossible to fail his class.
Rohrer was honestly a nightmare to put things nicely. He is a nice guy, but not a good professor. He waits LAST MINUTE to grade things, so he will say you are failing up until the day before grades are due, then he's forced to just give you an A because he's so behind due to the number of redos you have to do on an A worthy assignment.
Teacher is super lecture heavy, but he rambles so much it's hard to know what he is even talking about. Hard assignments, a lot of writing, harsh grader, do not recommend
Rohrer is an amazing Professor. Courses do include a bit of writing and reading but he is willing to take the time to revise your work if you see him during his office hours. Do that and participate in his disscusions and it's near impossible to receive anything other than an A. 10 out 10 would recommend. I'm taking ASH 442 with him now.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! As a student that had above a 3.75 GPA I am telling you this class was too much I had to withdraw. The professor is rude, stuck up, and very much unreasonable with the amount of work and tests he gave us. Usually 30 minutes into the class he isn't even teaching and he is telling us how bad of students we are.
First of all, there are no organized lectures in this class. No PowerPoint slides and engaging lectures. He requires students to engage him in a discussion. The syllabus is 33 pages, dense and overcomplicated. Again, no lectures in class, you will actually learn nothing. Papers will not be graded for good historical writing, only grammar stay away!
As long as you participate you're pretty much fine. He's very old school and unfortunately doesn't use canvas so you don't know your grade throughout the semester. You are given 12 terms a week each week and for each of the 3 tests you take you have to transcribe 6 of them and the tests are open note so as long as you do the terms your golden.
I don't know how to stop someone from taking this class with him. He believes he is God when in all reality, this class was supposed to teach us about the FGCUs movement toward sustainability, not a class where you are worried about citing the word "the" because that might get you in front of the academic integrity board. DO NOT TAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He's the only professor that I've ever had that doesn't post grades on canvas so you never know what you have in his class. He is an extremely nit picky grader and will dock points for the smallest details. All of our papers had to be in Chicago Style which I've never even heard of and he didn't explain how to do this properly.
I do not recommend Scott Rohrer as a professor. While he seems nice, he is not a good professor. He does not have an organized lecture structure and relies heavily on a complex syllabus throughout half the class. He holds very high standards in regards to writing and grammar, and will nitpick anything regarding any specific style of writing.
Cannot understand whats bro talking about, the way he phrase things is unbelievable, awkward lectures, 20 pages+ readings every class meeting. Not recommand. NO.
Professor Rohrer created a near-impossible workload for an undergraduate class. The lectures consisted mostly of rambling and each lecture could have been half the time if the important material was the major focus. The only reason I am not giving a 1-star is because my writing ability actually improved from taking his class.
Dr. Rohrer forces students to pay for more than what they would need as he will only grade exams through purchased exam booklets and this course also requires two textbooks. He is also very disorganized when it comes to explaining test content and course procedure. I do not recommend choosing this professor for American History.
As someone who enjoys learning about history, the amount of work this professor assigned was way too much. He gave us countless readings for us to do and is very confusing when explaining the syllabus. I tried to get through it, but the workload was just too much. Always be sure to look up your professor on here before registration starts.
Extremely tough grader for writing assignments. I took his class freshman year. I had a B all semester then he gave me a 20% on my final paper (12 pages) which caused my grade to drop to a F. He was not available afterwards to explain my low grade or give feedback on paper. Retook this class with a different professor and received an A.
By far THE worse professor I have ever had. Turned an easy curriculum into a full time job. Take if you don't value your sanity.
Makes colloquium unnecessarily difficult. Will mark off points for the smallest things. Assignment rubrics and messages are way too information-filled for the student to remember most of the requirements. Doesn't understand human emotion. Very passive aggressive. Treats students' intellect as if they are elementary school kids. Do not recommend.
Worst professor at FGCU hands down. assigns far more work than any other colloquium professor but then never returns grades (i've only seen one grade and its under two weeks until the end of the semester), takes off points unnecessarily on said papers, just overall has the attitude that he's better than everyone since he's the prof.
Don't take him, he is one of the worst teachers at the school. He talks with no enthusiasm and could care less about his students. He grades really hard and wont submit grades until the last week of class so good luck.
Makes it difficult to receive anything less than an A if you put the work in. Quizzes are based on terms he gives you, which can be found in provided sources. He also offers PLENTY of extra credit opportunities, like creating your notes to use on the exam. Honestly, if you fail, its on you because of all the opportunities he offers his students.
Worst professor I've ever had at FGCU. He refused to use canvas and took 7+ weeks to grade 1000 word papers, resulting in us having only one grade returned with finals week coming up. He has a superiority complex and treats students with disrespect. He turned what was supposed to be an easy class into a full time job. DO NOT TAKE!!!
this professor gives a lot of reading that the other university colloquium teachers don't give. Unnecessary readings that take at least an hour or 2 every week. Does a terrible job explaining instructions and tells you to ask someone else for help (ex. the library team), figure it out yourself, or completely stray away from the question you asked.
This is absolutely the worst professor i have ever taken. If you enjoy listening to lectures with no powerpoint given in class nor provided after, this is the class for you! Attendance and participation is required, and you are only grades on tests, exams and quizzes. Lots of reading is required before each class and very lengthy. I learned nothing
Extremely long syllabus, long-winded emails, super unhelpful with questions, insists on meaningless conventions for papers and tests. Super nitpicky and confusing, overly critical. Do not take.
Scott Rohrer has been the worst professor, I didn't believe his rate but it's all true. We have 2 required textbooks and have to read upwards of 2 hours a week to understand content he does not teach in class. He goes on rants when asked questions and does not put grades on canvas. Makes a uni req harder than necessary
The class is terrible. My high school history teachers would all get super into teaching and would explain things amazingly, but Professor Rohrer DOES NOT TEACH. He makes you read from about 4 different sources and expects you to come to class knowing it already then yaps and yaps and can't explain anything. I always doze off when he starts talking
To put it the words of something Professor Roher would say. Your future self will thank you if you don't take his classes
America was founded in 1776.
Get ready to ask a question and have a 45 minute discussion about every aspect of it besides the answer. Dude is bad at communicating, refuses to make simple instructions, would rather give you 5 pages of rules for an assignment then spend the whole class yapping. it's past midterms in this point if the year and dude hasn't put a single grade in
Someone else put on here that he can't answer a question without a lecture in front of him and that's true, also still hasn't graded anything halfway into the year, and then proceeded to take another class over as well, clearly doesn't care about students
Please do not take this course if you want to stay sane. For every class meeting you have to read from two different text books, a long winded Interpretive essay, and 2 handouts that are a couple pages long. On top of that, every week he gives you 12 terms that you need to write a lot about. Most of the time idk what bro is talking about.
WORST teacher I have had, the amount of work is crazy! 3+ hrs of reading every week from 2 different textbooks plus huge "interpretive essay" and 2+ handouts you have to read all for him to spend 45 min discussing every aspect of a student's question BUT the answer. It is 14 weeks into the semester and he has not put one grade in. DO NOT TAKE PLS!!
He lectures from his notes rather than a PowerPoint so be prepared to listen the entire time if you want to make sense of what he is teaching.
This was the hardest class I've ever taken, he takes grammar in our papers so seriously. He took all semester to grade our first paper from September, constantly made excuses for why it wasnt graded. He doesn't post grades on Canvas, u have to figure it out with no feedback. zero organization made everything way more stressful than it needed to be
WORST PROFESSOR. Avoid taking him at all costs, will make class an awful experience, doesn't grade anything and doesn't use canvas for grades, still don't know my grade in the class. One out of 5 papers one has been graded this year, so many excuses for not grading them. And get prepared to spend 6+ hours on his papers
NEVER TAKE THIS GUY. This is the worst professor I have ever had. The amount of time that you have to spend to just barely pass is insane much less get an A or B. The workload is crazy and you will spend every waking minute trying to get everything done in time. 0/10
Treats a COLLOQUIUM class like a english class. He is a extremely tough grader for papers and take forever to grade them and then blame his "overload of course work he has to grade" on why the paper are not in the grade book. He gives pop quizzes about specificcc question about the 70 plus pages due every week. Take another professor for colloquium
We had Dr. Epple in the beginning of the semester and he was so great and then Dr. Rohrer filled in for him. Absolutely hated his class. He was the toughest grader I have ever had. I am no longer a History major because he made it so boring. “I want to give you a zero but that's not possible so I give you a one.” -Tyra Banks
The first thing to mention is we didn't get a choice of what happened in regards to this class. While doctor Epple was originally doctor Robert took it over. While it wasn't as easy of an A as i was expecting with doctor Robert he was a pretty fair grader and it was a pretty good class. While I know his grading was not nearly as harsh. It was ok.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. While I passed the class, this is the worst college professor I've ever had. He does not put a single grade into the grade book and when asked what my grade was via email or office hours, he told me and other students to “calculate it ourselves.” So much work for no reason and no amount of studying or prep isgood enough.
Save yourself the stress. College is hard enough as it is. Prepare for 100 pages a week of reading for a prereq class. No grades in Canvas. Pop quizzes on the most detailed parts of the reading. Hour fifteen lectures on basically nothing. Only upside is going to his class has some benefit sometime in hints to extra-credit. 3 tests with 60% of grade
I got an A, but practically no one else did. text of 1000 loose pages and about 100 pages required to read a day Talked about STDs and such in place of important events we SHOULD have been learning about Half of the required material is written by him with his own “interpreted” opinions. Hits your grade if you try to have an opinion other than his.
If you want your GPA to drop, take this class. If you want constant headaches and stress, take this class. If you don't want to have any social life or free time, take this class. I saw the rating and thought "It can't be that bad" but it was somehow worse. You're better off waiting another semester to take history than taking this class.
Please please please do not take him as a teacher. You don't know what your grade is until the very end so I have no idea what my grade is but I know I'm failing. He is so bad at grading and very strict on it but gives no information on what to change. If you want your gpa grade to drop take this class but I have never disliked a teacher more.
Very tough grader, takes FOREVER to grade (1 month+ for an essay). Pop quizzes. Lectures over unimportant things. Doesn't show your full grade, “there's a rubric to do it yourself.” If you can take a different teacher, do it. This class shouldn't be this hard & graded like a Major Class.
He is incredibly tough on grading papers. I took this class in my senior year, and I have never had a professor so picky with writing. Neither my creating writing professor, nor my composition professors were as punishing as this guy. The field trips were the only thing I looked forward to. His lectures were a drag, and his assignments were boring.
I learned nothing from his teaching because he expected us to know all of the information. Most of the reading was from what he wrote and he wanted us to memorize it. I studied for one of his tests for 24 hours and still failed it. I will not be taking him again in order to save my own sanity. I changed my major because of this class.
Don't ever take him. I hated going to class every week. He would take forever to grade and then when he does grade it he nitpicks everything. I only liked some of the field trips. I had friends in the same class with other professors and they actually enjoyed the class. If you do take him, get ready to read at least 100 pages a week.
He's the worst professor I've ever had. He does not lecture. He spent every class going over why cheating is bad. He talks very slow. He does not have very good PowerPoints. He does not post any material or assignments until the week of so you can't see anything ahead of time. He also doesn't have assignments everything is “extra credit” not good
Very boring and hard to listen to. Doesn't even teach for the first 45 minutes or so of the class every day. Course is a big extra credit scavenger hunt. No activities, all lectures. All of the learning was done on my own outside of class, never learned barely any material from him, if I did it was about one tenth of the info needed for the test.
I found the lectures interesting and walked in without knowing of his like "rating" and I have been fine. As long as you take notes and participate in class, he gives you many opportunities for extra credit - you can get 12% extra. Class is boring when it comes to lectures and a lot of work but the tests are open note and just writing about terms.
Horrible teacher that doesn't care about students and wants to make his course harder than necessary. Extensive mandatory readings every night 15+ pages. Lots of writing down term definitions for the tests which he grades toughly. Gives extra credit and makes you look through all of his source material to find it.
Only plus was the extra credit which could be found in his mile long daily emails. Halfway through with nothing graded and two packs of index cards for the class. I would steer clear unless you want an absurd amount of stress for a general education class.
I am writing this on a field trip for the class currently because I can't stand this professor. His lectures are pointless he just rambles about nothing and then has pop quizzes which is so unnecessary just tell us when the quiz is if the reading is mandatory. He makes a fun class and trips unbearable with his speaking. Do not take!! Save yourself!
Literally the only grade in the gradebook is the first quiz we took in the beginning of term. There's less than a month left and he has not yet graded the essay we submitted in September. There's a ridiculous amount of reading (hours worth) and lots of pop quizzes. Asks about really specific details that can be hard to remember. Take anyone else
Professor Rohrer will not put any of your grades in. Prepare to not know what your grade is even the last week of the semester. There is weekly assigned readings that you will be randomly pop quizzes on. The quizzes are a lot of "which is NOT a title from your readings". The readings are very long and from two different textbooks.
Professor Rohrer assigns ID terms for students to work on as homework, but these terms will end up taking 99% of your dedicated homework time. After spending numerous hours studying, I still earned a C. Nobody in my class received a 100% on any exam. His comments on papers were confusing, and I didn't understand why I received the grade I got.
Do not expect anything graded from this professor within a timely span. The professor has graded at time of writing this review an essay from September. Although this class is very easy for writing the actual essays. Notice the field trips during the fall semester are very light and dont include any wet-walks compared to spring
I absolutely cannot stand this professor. If you're up for sitting in class listening to him talk about random things for an hour and 15 minutes a week, go ahead and take him. The field trips were boring, can't tell you a single thing I learned. Only have 1 essay graded from SEPTEMBER. Mind you we have 2 more waiting and finals are next week. AVOID
I really disliked how he structured his class. All the notes had to mainly be taken outside of class because he would take up taking so much time talking about little things in class. Also he didn't put 1 single grade in the gradebook until the last week of classes.
I saw the reviews on rmp and thought it was exaggerated, turns out they were completely right. he did not post any grades until December. I actually have zero idea and advice as to how i got an A, i guess just participate as much as you can in class, and do all the extra credit opportunities hidden in the IE's. GOOD LUCK!!!
