Rosen is an awesome teacher. He is very down to earth and puts himself on the students' level. He's like one of, its cool. The class is a little time consuming, but only because there is so much material to cover. He grades easy and is always fair. He tells you exactly what will be on the test so make sure you take notes on what he says.

Great comic relief for the class too. Reviews what will be on tests before them also, and allows cheat sheet. There is no doubt in my mind that you will enjoy this class immensley.

Tests are too easy, and people pass his class who probably shouldn't. Sure he's a competent instructor, but he spends more time than he should engaging in small talk. I just want to provide some criticism here because obviously he's friendly and gets good reviews. Certainly wouldn't warn against him.

Wow, Scott is definitely one of the best teachers I've EVER had. He's extremely funny, and certainly makes the class very fun and interesting. He's got a great teaching style, one of the best I've ever encountered. His work load is moderate, but not grueling. I'd say the most time consuming part is lab, but it's sooo important. Very funny guy and keeps the interest level high. Lots of opportunities for extra credit so getting anything less than an A is hard. The web-based labs are kind of a joke though. Not a lot of learning going on, just a lot of trial and error.

TAKE THIS CLASS!!You will love it. He's really funny, and nice. He's really helpful if you need help. Easy if you already have experience, and if you are just starting its not difficult. You only take 3 tests, and you can have a cheat cheat. Hw is basically the same, and you have a week to complete it.

We start off every morning meditating, which is really awesome, & then we learn about all kinds of technology & computers.I'm not a morning person, but I chose his CS5 class over a mid - afternoon anthro. class because I was more awake @ 8:30am w/ scott than 1:30 pm in the other class.

What a great teacher. This is a difficult subject not found anywhere else. You need to deconstruct an entire computer and put it back together, as well as learn all the components. Dr. Rosen really helps the students -- way over to top teacher!

Easy A. Probably too easy because I didn't learn much. If you are scared of computers, Scott's the teacher for you. If you are meh about them, and are semi-competent about using them, this is not the class for you. But Scott obviously loves what he does and adores his students, and he is a pretty cool guy.

Scott's classes are an experience. Nearly anything you could want out of a professor, he is willing to give. Some weeks, the class felt "too easy". This is most likely because of the subject, rather than the teacher. Scott also has a great way of listening to his students, and keeping things as fair as possible.

Five minutes into the first lecture of the class I knew there was nothing to worry about. Scott is hysterical and will keep you engaged, not to mention laughing. Where to begin? Scott is a really nice teacher. He is refreshingly reasonable. He will snap at you if you're being dumb or not paying attention and say sorry if he is legitimately out of line or his ire is misplaced. This is the first time I've taken him but even before the class I had heard good things. Cares to much about being liked imho though.

Mr. Rosen is a very good professor. I am currently in high school, and am enrolled in the CS-5 class to gain an exponential amount of credits, as fast as I can. I was quite worried about what attending college would be like at a time when most of my peers are attending high school. However, now, almost 5 weeks into the class, I am quite satisfied.

Rosen is a fair and honest professor. His lectures are engaging. He is able to make the understanding of a computer works interesting.

Took this Fall '13. Very cool, relaxed guy. Definitely there for his students and lectures and grading were very clear. One class presentation, a group project, and then various homework assignments that weren't too hard. Would highly recommend for any class!!

I took Scott Rosen's CS5 class and my life has drastically changed for the better!! I am a new man. For the first time in a while I have extra $ in my pocket, luck seems to be nothing but good... not to mention I am wowing ladies all across the North Bay with my knowledge of of computer literacy.

Takes time to explain new concepts clearly so everyone can understand. He creates an environment where I feel safe to try new things. Also, meditating before class is the best things EVER. What a way to bring everyone together and focus on learning. You do need to be aware and conscious or you will miss some gems of humor.

I enjoy the meditation session at the beginning of the class. It clears my mind of yesterday's junk and makes space to absorb the day's lecture. Scott's cool, very nice and pretty laid back. Homework isn't due until the end of the semester so it's on you to finish it all over time at your own pace, though he does suggest where you should be every few weeks. Overall cool guy and probably my favorite professor at SRJC after two semesters.

Doctor Rosen is Hands down the best professor at Santa Rosa Junior College. He wants you to be great and he's gonna make you do that! I learned so much and his class changed my life!!

Scott is a great teacher. He is very clear on what needs to be done and is there for you the whole way. The TED talks are great. You always get something out of them either for class, yourself, or both. I will definitely take another class with him.

Dr. Scott is a very nice teacher, who cares for his students to make sure that they can understand the materials on class. His lectures are very enjoyable and interesting. Dr,Rosen makes you feel like you should never settle from others, but mostly yourself. The meditation was really helpful in getting us focused on that days task. I was able to remember a lot through lecture. He also allowed taking video. Working smarter not harder

Dr. Scott Rosen is a GREAT professor. His class has been a very fun learning experience. He is truly passionate about what he teaches and cares for his students. He wants his students to learn and get good grades. Show up and do the work, you will not have a problem passing. I would definitely take him again!

Rosen is the BOMB! If you are into honest but serious teachers this is the guy. Every morning you get to start the class with a meditation and TED talk. Since the textbook is only recommended and all the lectures are online, you must put in the work and effort for the grade you want. Overall though its not a hard class but not a easy class either.

Scott Rosen is such a great teacher. He is really nice and his class is fun and interesting. I never got bored on his lectures. In his class, we have to do a lot of projects but other than that his class is excellent.

Great teacher, all around great guy, and you can tell he loves teaching and sharing knowledge. His relaxed style makes this complex and often confusing subject easy to grasp, even if you can barely program a smart phone when you begin. And his eyes light up when he sees a student 'get' a concept they had been struggling with... priceless!

The good news is he goes over the basics of the reading material as part of his lecture strategy, so the homework all ties in together at day's end.

He's easy going. He's understanding with student hardship in life. Ok with turning homework late but will take a few percent off though. He's a super fun teacher that I can ever imagine. I thought he would be kinda of strict from his profile picture, but I was so wrong. There is a lot of homework, but its not that difficult.

Doctor Scott Rosen is truly a gem. He is one of my favorite teachers. I never dread going to class, his lectures are always concise focusing on example material and a good knowledge base. If you come to class and take notes, you will do well. He makes the four hour class fly by and has a great sense of humor. I highly recommend this teacher.

Dr. Scott Rosen will answer and help you out when you have questions. Any questions you have even if you think they are dumb questions, you should ask Scott because he will answer them. Some of his lectures were really funny even some of the meditations were hilarious. Scott keeps the lectures informative and useful but also entertaining.

It is obvious that Dr. Rosen really loves his job. He explains all projects clearly. He has great Ted Talks and meditations. Got a question? Ask it, he has great knowledge this subject. His projects are entertaining as well as educational. You can contact him outside of class when needed.

Really nice Professor I've had this semester. Easy class to take, he does really fun labs and homework. Turns lectures into something to actually want to learn about. he is really funny and likes to talk to you as a friend. I really recommend taking him for CS5 if he had other classes I would take his class all over again.

Wonderful teacher. He explains what he wants and gives you examples on how he wants it done. He tells you everything he wants from you in the assignment and gives you lab time to start them.

Really great guy. Lots of thought-provoking and unbiased conversation about contemporary issues. I enjoy the inspirational TED talks. Feels like he really cares about student success and self-esteem, wants to encourage his students and help them get more about their classes and life, in general.

This professor has been one of my favorites so far. He is casual and fun, but he isn't a pushover. He cares for his students, and is who he is. he isn't afraid to tell you his opinion and give you honest feedback. i also never get bored in his lectures, he keeps them entertaining and brings in a good sense of humor while teaching and its refreshing

Best teacher ever!

I was really surprised of how much I liked this class. I thought it would be pretty dull but I feel like I learned some life changing things that will help me my whole life making using and accessing computers feel second nature.

Very caring and passionate professor. Class is easy if you pay attention. Easily a top 5 professor at the JC. Only two tests that are fairly easy, projects weekly but not time consuming at all.

I think one of the best ways to describe Dr. Rosen, would be that even though hes a teacher, he feels like a friend. Dr. Rosen is outgoing, understanding, and is very enthusiastic about teaching. Hes the type of teacher that you wish others were like, and out of my 2 years at college, his class is one I'll always remember and look back fondly on.

Dr. Rosen Rocks!! he starts off his class with some amazing meditation. He is very caring and really motivates you to do your best. Homework is suable pretty easy and he helps you a lot when needed. Don't hesitate to get him as you instructor.

Scott is a great teacher. We would meditate at the beginning of each class and that always was a nice way to start. Coursework is understandable enough (especially if you're tech inclined to begin with, which you probably are), so just paying attention to lectures and taking good notes as well as completing assignments will have you passing easily.

Really funny and enjoyable to talk to and actually get to know in class, starts every class with meditation which I did not think would be a good thing at first but actually allows me to focus on the tasks at hand.

Dr Scott is an awesome teacher. It took me a few classes to catch on to and appreciate his style but as soon as I did I realized I totally loved him. He wants every student to succeed and relates to us the way he would want to be related to as a student. I highly recommend his classes and he is guaranteed to make you laugh.

Scott's a great teacher and a great guy. Its obvious he cares about his profession and his students. He assigns homework every week but its never overwhelming and he allows you to use a study guide on the final which is very convenient.

Rosen is really an awesome professor. He really cares about his students and is very understanding. He isn't just a computers teacher, he also finds ways to motivate his students. As long as you communicate with him about being able to make class or not he isn't hard on you for that. Not a hard grader.

Class did not meet my expectations, it exceeded them. Dr Scott has a great approach to instruction infusing the serious topics with a good dose of humor to make learning a breeze.

Mr. Rosen is a great professor. Starting from day one, he made his expectations for the class loud and clear. I learned so much from this class and got an A even though I did not have much experience to CS prior to this class. In the future, I will always be on the lookout for a class to take with this professor.

I learned a lot of stuff from this class thanks to Rosen. He did a good job of actually teaching us during the COVID-19 pandemic instead of making us teach ourselves.

Best teacher! I took this class online and Professor Rosen is amazing, homework is easy to understand and complete. lectures are not required to watch but are helpful. the projects are fun and easy. midterm was a group effort and open notes.

Guy is a beast. Computer studies is a very basic class and he doesn't add tons of busy work to make up for the natural easiness of the course like economics professors do. There is only a few assignment per month that take an hour to finish, tops.

His class has been great. I would definitely take again. I actually enjoy watching his lectures that he records so I can watch at another time. You can tell he cares about his students & if you have a tough time learning with online classes he does a great job at it. Makes very useful and helpful instructional videos. He gives very good examples and this is especially helpful since this was a full online course with no zoom.

Prof Rosen is one of the best SRJC teachers I've ever had. He is very understanding and explicit when it comes to assignments and submission deadlines. Overall a great teacher and someone who I recommend everyone takes if considering going through the computer science route.

You are able to learn the details of a computer and memorize because he goes through each topic in a timely manner- not speeding through and putting most of the learning on the student like other teachers. He is very easy, limited hw , and actually wants you to succeed.

Hands down one of my favorite classes and teachers at the JC! Dr. Rosen really looks out for the success of students. There are a handful of Labs and Projects, but it is very easy if you attend lecture or watch the recordings. All questions are encouraged and Rosen will stop his sentence midway to answer any questions. 10/10!

Dr. Rosen's class was educational and varied in its topics and subjects. The class is easy if you watch the weekly lectures, which he is kind enough to pre-record for people like myself who work outside of school. Some assignments allow a certain degree of creativity and artistic license which is nice. Overall good experience.

Super friendly! Very easy to get in contact with. Assignments need to be done before the due date and make sure you're watching the lecture videos. You don't have to attend class but you do have to go over his lecture videos to understand the assignments.

This professor Is kind, polite, and readily available to his students. He is also friendly enough to approach you with any questions or problems understanding the lessons and he is patient enough to explain or show you more than once.

This professor is relaxed yet professional. He truly cares about his student's success. He goes above and beyond to ensure his students fully understand the assignments and is willing to work with you if you do not understand. should you need independent help Doc makes himself available in and outside of class.

Rosen's class is very easy if you have fundamental computer knowledge. His instructions on his assignments are detailed and simple. Assignments are easy, lectures are useful, and the textbook is very informal on computers and its internal pieces. If you want a chill class, Rosen's CS5 class is it.

Prof.Rosen was a great professor! However, he is a tough grader, so make sure you really follow the rubric and read the directions thoroughly.There are optional zoom meetings and there was 2 group projects, so start early to find a group.There was also some individual projects that were kind of challenging, but Prof.Rosen is always there to help.

Amazing Professor, if there are any negative reviews, they are all lies. He is the best CS5 professor to take. Labs aren't hard, and he helps you a lot. There were 5 projects the whole semester, all were easy. Midterm was the only harsh grade, but was an easy A. If I were to take it again, Rosen would be my first choice.
