ok, this guy is TOTALLY hot. personality wise he's fun, relaxed, and makes you want to come to class. best class ive ever taken, no joke. as long as you show up and do the work its the easiest A you ever got. the eye candy is just an added bonus :)
Super fun guy, awesome class!!!! Lots of projects, but very fun ones!
He's a fun teacher that likes to tell stories. He goes through the whole chapter with you and discusses things in class back and forth with students to help understand
Awesome class. Not hard at all and he makes it fun. Take this professor, you will not regret it!
He is a great professor. He made the class fun and very enjoyable and I learned a lot from it. He wants everyone in his class to get an A and he'll let you know he does. The projects are not hard at all, they just require some drawing & Out of respect read the text, even though you don't have to.
Very easy class, and Mr. Runnels is very entertaining and makes class fun. You have to do four art critiques, and two projects, but tests are very easy if you study a little bit and pay attention in class. Impossible not to get an A if you do your work as assigned.
Would have been a cool class if we didnt have to go out looking for the art galleries and do those four art critiques out of class time...
Pretty easy class the way he makes it fun. As fun as it can be,anyway. Kind of a weird sense of humor, and looks-wise not everybody's cup of tea, but I thought he was very cute in an eccentric way.
Very funny with a weird sense of humor. Has a cool style. Is cool about late work, lets you make up tests. Sexy shaved head. Easy class- easy teacher- just show up and do the work.
He is so funny and such a sweetheart!!!
Funny, interseting. You do0n't get bored and the work isn't that bad.
he's very funny and nice. the only thing that sucks is the out of class trips to the gallaries.
His tests were harder than expected. He gives 20 question tests, and they are hard when questions count 5 points each...no fun. He is funny though...in his own special way.
Professor Runnels was nice, but he gets off subject very easily and then never goes over the material we are suppose to be learning and the stuff on the test. Test kind of take you by suprise since you dont learn most of the material. It was an okay class.
Don't take this class if you actually want to learn anything. Talks about completely random**** that has nothing to do with art. Tests are 20 questions, so statistical error throws your grades off a lot. You can study hard and get a D, or not study at all and make an A, it's like rolling the dice. Really nice, funny guy, but not a good teacher
On the first day of class he says straight away that he wants you to make an A. He tells GREAT stories, always a fun time! Tests are easy but you do have to pay attention, and reading is recomended. Just a great guy and a great class.
His tests are not hard or easy - he always has some give away questions, so that helps. The test come straight from lecture, but follow the book , so pay attention and READ. I LIKED his random tangents. It helped to make the class interesting - you could never tell what he might say or do next, except it would probably be funny.
Professor Runnels is really cool about helping you make work up. I learned a lot about a subject I didn't know much about before. The tests are okay, and you have a lot of chances to help your grade with papers and projects that are pretty easy. Hardly ever boring.
He's a really nice guy and super hilarious. But he tries to be funny on his tests and it comes across confusing. Pay attention in class if you want to pass! He teaches straight from the book so you dont really have to read it. Gives you two drawing projects and a critical analysis porject where you must attend 4 art exhibits.
Really hott!! Tells really great stories, and makes the class really interesting. If you have his class at lunchtime and you don't make noise he doesn't care if you eat.

Dr. Runnels is a nice professor. Although he tends to start class with a 20 minute discussion (in a 50 minute class) he is very generous and takes his students into consideration...he is not hard to pass...i recommend him...he is hot...i wont lie...or maybe its just the weird clothes, the motorcycle, and the bald head that turn me on.
Pretty much whatever you put into this class is what you'll get out of it. He goes straight from the book, so if you miss a class it's not the end of the world. His tests are alright, I don't ever really study, I just go to class and I got all A's and B's. You're required to attend 4 art exhibits on your own time tho.
TAKE HIM!! He has an incredible sense of humor with a twist of sarcasm. His classes are interesting and always promise some kind of fun and laughs. He has a story telling time for interesting things that may have happened to you since last class. Helpful if you need to make up for something. Very easy on the eyes which helps a lot. Bring him food.

He is the best professor I have had yet. His notes cover the material very well and all the tests are over the notes. If you go to class and listen you will for sure make A's! He is also very FUNNY. He keeps the class laid back and fun. TAKE HIM!!
Knows his art but is able to explain it so everyone understands. Take him if you need an art credit.
he's a good teacher.. really laid back and understanding.. his tests are really really easy.
Go to class cause he gives you the vocab at the begining of each new chapter and does tell you stuff that is not in the book. Read the chapters and you WILL do better on the tests. He is funny and really easy to talk to about life, his class.
Good teacher, but sorry gals (and guys) he is sooo not hot. Besides, that's not the point. If he's a good teacher, he's a good teacher. Forget drooling over him. this is college, not the strip club.
He is a funny guy but sometimes he can be a prick. He looks exactly like Howie Mandel so he is not hot at all. His tests are easy but his classes are extremely boring if you arent interested in art. Just read the vocab and you will pass easily. He does make you write 4 critical analysis which suck but overall it was an okay class.
Ehh... alright teacher. Our class spent most of the time talking about nothing pertaining to art..... easy if you keep up with vocab and study for exams. Critical analysis is not that bad...
He is awesome. I reccomend his class to everyone. He teaches and gives you the material clearly and is entertaining in the process. I only wish that his class was longer because time seems to fly by in that class. He grades fairly. He only expects you to learn what he has taught you. He is very helpful and answers any question. Dresses rad. Love it
He's a really cool guy & makes class interesting. He's not really the most reliable as far as test dates, etc. but he teaches material clearly. His syllabus could use some clear dates for tests & assignment due dates, and he could grade a little faster, but all in all, I liked his class. He makes it fun & gives away an answer to every test by vote.
I don't know what these people are talking about! This class was SO boring! The tests were hard. He takes forever to grade. His syllabus doesn't have any test dates on them. Critical Analysis isn't bad. It's really hard to stay awake. He made us cover chapters that he didn't cover in class for the final! Chapters are long & boring!
Funny, quirky teacher! Tests were pretty easy if you read the book and go to class. I thought he was cute, my friend says not. It doesnt matter tho! Great teacher!
If you have to take Art Apreciation then take this guy! He makes the subject fun to learn and he is just a goofy guy. Have to read the book, and his tests are pretty easy as long as you pay good attention in class and take good notes. Even though he doesnt require attendence, I actually looked forward to going to that class.
This guy is very witty and keeps things interesting. Class attendance is not required, and the class consists of a couple tests and easy critical analysis.
Loved the class. When I went...He was fun and interesting to listen to!
Dr. Runnels is a nice guy, but not a great teacher. If anything, he is rather full of himself. At times he will treat you as an adult, and other times he will act as if he is superior. The class is boring and most of the material is from the book. The best part of the class was the tour of the art building and actually showing real art, not slides.
Literally the best professor I've ever taken. He is hilarious and sarcastic and goes out of his way to make sure you have fun in his class. His style is beyond legit. He is just a really cool professor and will help you out however he can. He's really nice and cares about the grade you make. If I could I would take him for every one of my classes.
Very interesting professor but you must go to class and read the textbook if you want to get a good grade. The average grade in my class was a c- so its not just a blow off, but if you will just go to class, you should get an a or b
HE WAS GREAT!! He was funny and made class interesting! Just read the chapters and the test will be easy for you. He was very nice and helpful. He also dressed very well which was a plus!
Most of the test/lecture was from the book so if you don't read don't expect a good grade. He dressed very well. The syllabus doesn't even say when the tests are. My biggest issue was that we were learning things all the way through dead week instead of being able to study. Wish there was more structure, but he was sometimes funny/hates phones!
he's always 5-10 minutes late for every class. lectures can be very boring. must read textbook because he gets info directly from it for the exams. he talks extremely fast so it can be really hard to keep up/take notes sometimes. exams are difficult if you don't read the chapters. he has good style/wears a fadora to class everyday. average class.
cool professor and very nice and funny; but he takes too long to grade papers and he doesn't specify dates on his syllabus as to when exams will be. he gives exams when he feels like it and you MUST read the textbook chapters to at least pass. taking notes in his class isn't enough. he doesn't like cell phones either and his tests were a pain
He made the class fun.
Very funny but sarcastic man. Has fun in class and jokes with students a lot. Knows what he is talking about, very knowledgable on what he is teaching. Lectures are interesting and enthusiastic. Although the content is extremely dry, tests are very easy if you go to class and pay attention.
He's really cool once he "breaks you in." He's the type of professor that has jokes, but sometimes they're not that funny. He dressed very sharp. He knows what he's teaching. He definitely wants you to pass his class with flying colors. Very easy course! Exams are basically vocabulary-based from the textbook.
His class was interesting yet boring. He has a great personality and will help when you ask. He dresses really nice too!
VERY funny, gets the students engaged in conversation. Expect cursing, DO NOT use your cellphone. Attendance is optional but crucial to pass.
Favorite professor I had this semester. Very funny, and actually interested in whats going on in your life. Makes this topic fun to learn about. TAKE HIM YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He doesn't require attendence but you really need to attend. Most of his test questions come from his lectures, hardly used the book. No phones. I would recommend this teacher to anyone
Professor Runnels is really laid back. He gives very few grades; a few tests were all that were graded this semester. If you come to class, read the textbook, and take good notes, it is an easy A. Plus, his lectures are really interesting, class flew by every time! Also, he is a really nice man; he cares about his students and values their time.
He is hilarious. He does not give many grades, mostly just the tests. His lectures are very interesting because he is funny. Don't use your phone in class because he will take it up and do something with it like hide it in a locker. Due to my B in the class I would suggest reading the book to get an A. Test are overall easy. I would take him again.
He gave two tests during the semester, and then the week before finals he decided to give another one, but also the final. He is very rude towards students unless you read the assigned reading before the next lecture. He has no respect for students and does not get back to you in a timely manner.
Don't take Runnels unless you are willing to participate. if you're just in it for credit and don't want to join in, RUN. He's the best teacher for those who want to learn how to appreciate art. He's a great guy to talk to, and honestly tries to make the class interesting and fun. if you're an art or design major, take the time to pick his brain.
Although attendance was not required, it would be wise to go to lecture & read the book. He is all about class discussions & will pick on you constantly if you do not participate, especially those who sit in the back. Many times, the class goes over time because he LOVES to talk. "Notes" were mostly verbal, no reviews, & tests were multiple choice
Mr. Runnels is great! He relies on participation though. Like you don't get a grade but he expects you to. His tests are easy if you halfway take notes and pay attention in class and read the book outside of class. Usually provides scantrons too. He's funny so the lectures aren't too bad. DO NOT USE YOUR CELLPHONE and his final is NOT cumulative.
Lectures about stuff that is in the book but also stuff that is not but is still important. Has a sense of humor but not good looking unless youre into bald married men.
Runnels is absolutely hilarious and makes class fun. His lectures are fairly easy to follow if you do the reading (which is not that much). If you pay attention in class and study a little bit, the test are SO easy. While he doesnt take attendance, I suggest you try to make it to every class because he explains things in a way you can remember.
Very understanding with students
Runnels is a good professor, and can be funny sometimes. Don't think that since it's art appreciation, it's super easy. You MUST go to class to get the information that will be on the tests because he doesn't post notes online. There are tests, an essay, and a final. Reading the textbook helps.
Good class. Very talkative. 90% sure he's an Austin Powers villain.
Dr. Runnels is so funny and makes class very interesting. Times go by fast during lectures! Just make sure you read and go over the material he discusses in class. Attendance may not be mandatory, but attend class because his test come from his lecture.
He's nice but gets distracted REALLY easy. Tests are the only thing he grades basically, but they're super easy and if you go to class you'll pass them. However he's really REALLY bad with time so some things you may have to learn on your own. He makes it engaging and he's a nice guy though!
Such a good professor. Really cares about students and their grades if they show effort in class. Pro tip - pay attention in class and make friends
Great Professor! Super understanding, just make sure to speak up in his class and give your input. Easy if you participate.
Great professor. Corona made the class a bit different than usual, so I cannot say class is like this always, but this semester was great. Only a few exams and a paper given. He does want you to read the book, but it's an easy read. Pay attention in class when discussing vocab words because it does come in handy. Very funny and relatable to us.
Professor Runnels was an extremely funny and caring teacher. I did skip class a few times, but I still got A's and passed the class. The only grades in this class were tests, and one paper towards the end of the semester. I would highly recommend Runnels for anyone taking this class!
So Im typically a 4.0 student but with him Im struggling to make a B. I attend class and read the book, but his tests are a little hard. Hes a great professor nonetheless but I did struggle a lot with this course! Would use if theres no other options, but maybe keep looking! My 4.0 pals are also struggling with this course.
Professor Runnels was very lecture heavy and most of it was repeated a lot. I usually get A's in class but this class it was literally impossible to get an A. He took 9 weeks to teach one unit and gave one test and then taught 6 units in 5 weeks. The only assignments are 4 tests and one paper. I would not recommend this class.
Don't get me wrong he is a great guy and is a nice dude but I don't think he is an outstanding teacher. He has a lot of opinions and his syllabus is nothing like what happened. It said we would have a test every 2-3 weeks but we didn't have our first test until midterm. We had to catch up on 3 units during finals weeks which was the only bad thing.
He is a character, though he may be viewed as "short." He has extremely dry humor and it is easy to think he is rude, but I promise he is joking with you!! He is so funny I even started documenting quotes he would say in class. He will call on you often and he will not give you the answer, you have to discuss until you finally understand.
His lectures are very boring but he is a spontaneous man. He really likes when you participate in his lecture. The only grades you have are 3 tests and an analysis paper. You don't need to go to class but if you do you'll probably learn something interesting.
Although his classes are lecture heavy, Runnels is a great teacher and seriously knows his stuff. His tests are heavily influenced by what is in his lectures, especially the vocab so be sure to take notes. Class isn't mandatory, however, attending class was fun and you got to learn something interesting. Highly recommend this teacher!
Class is not mandatory but his test is over what he says in class. Class was okay it felt very long, I did learn a lot of interesting stuff. He questions students and makes you think deeper. Just not my kind of professor.
If you don't like lecture-based classes, or aren't a great test-taker then Professor Runnels probably isn't for you. It's not a difficult course to pass, but it's difficult to get an A. If you show up, take notes and pay attention in class you'll be okay. The only grades are 6 tests and an essay. He's a great guy with a really good sense of humor.
He is one of those few professors that does truly care about his students. I had talked to him after class one day about an issue I was having and he offered to give me resources to help. He is fairly accommodating. He has what I call military style humor which may rub some people the wrong way but I think its great. He is extremely dedicated.
The class is very lecture heavy with 6 tests (which he may break up) and a paper which he gives very clear instructions for All of the tests are based on what he says in his lectures. He is good teacher, but the lectures can be long a little boring.
I took Scott for Drawing II and he has been one of my favorite professors here at SFASU. He very much became a father figure to me and helped me through a lot of scary times. In the class, he does make you draw the ENTIRE three hours, so be wary of that. As well as that, he can come off as rude or snarky, but he wants everyone to improve. 9/10 !!
Mr. Runnels was at first an ackward teacher, but he is very funny and caring despite it initially being hidden behind some tough military experience. He genuinely cares about his students, as seen through his accountability checks, and makes an effort to ensure students understand and pass, despite it being lecture heavy.
Fun but confusing at times, tests are hard, study hard
Students should expect to attend class and present the artwork they make during those hours. After each drawing exercise, group critiques take place. The professor is usually the person to judge your art and give helpful feedback. He is very communicative and makes an effort to talk with each of his students. He assigns homework as well.
Mr. Runnels is funny and knowledgeable, but tends to get off topic. Class is more him trying to engage students in discussion than structured lecturing. Great for someone who wants an interactive class to make them think, not great for students wanting clear cut material + peace and quiet. Graded by a handful of semi-tricky tests and a final paper
Professor Runnels is very quirky, but he is absolutely hilarious and I love his lectures. I'm not a fine arts major, but he makes the class enjoyable. His tests are pretty easy as long as you pay attention in the lecture. He changes what is covered based off the pace he wants to go or how long he wants to spend on one unit.
I took him for drawing, and I wish I could take him again. He was an amazing professor who gave good feedback everyday. He focused on the fundamentals of drawing before we actually started and that helped so much. The way he teaches is amazing and so very helpful. I'm glad I took him as an introductory class.
3-5 tests including final, tests are online. take notes and it will be easy. his class is not structured AT ALL so be aware but he tries to explain everything so it balances out.
Easy class if you put in the slightest bit of effort. Lectures are boring, but he tries to keep students engaged and awake. The course load is very light and attendance isn't mandatory, but show up often for fun stories and some insight into the world of art.
This class was an absolute waste of my time. We barely made it through material, with most of the lecture time being taken up by irrelevant conversations with students. This semester, we only had 3 assignments, all of which were tests. While attendance isn't mandatory, it is better to show up and attempt to take notes. Very confusing class.
