This professor cannot teach or does he know how to grade. He tells you how to complete an assignment but then tells you that is how to do it if you want to receive a C. His rubrics are all based upon his own opinion and has no standards. Avoid at all cost!!!
He is a very nice guy and a good professor, doesn't care if you're on your phone or the internet during the class. As long as you do all the work and do it on time you can get an A easily. Also make sure you study a little for the quizzes he has on each chapter. Overall I would highly recommend him, he really cares about the students in his class.
When he talks, it's like listening to someone with severe ADHD who'se just smoked a lot of crack. Everything in his class is SO confusing, and when you mention this to him, he says it's your fault because you don't have enough "attention to detail". HATED this guy.
Be prepared to work as much and as you would in a 40 hour work week. Makes you do all assignments on your own, strong believer in figuring it out on your own. Quizzes every class. He gives study guides for the tests but all it is a blank sheet. I would not recommend this teacher at all, unless you want an easy C... seriously.
Absolutely steer clear of this professor. Not only are his tests incredibly deceiving, his teaching style is confusing and he fails to listen to class's advice for improvement. You will have multiple projects and quizzes a week as well. Put in 110% effort and still struggled for a C & I am an honors student.
Avoid at all costs. Does not have a clear syllabus stating assignments, just kind of makes up assignments as course goes along. Class is only worth 100 points, he gives multiple assignments that are only half a point up two points. Assignments are long and tedious and they get graded harshly. Has unrealistic expectation of students.
Expect a little bit of a drill sergeant feel to the class. Extremely nice guy, gives a lot of work but read the material, pay attention and you're golden. The extra credit is extensive but worth it. Attendance not mandatory but graded. READ. Loved this guy and I would take another class by him again.
Professor Rutherford is very tough. His homeworks are difficult and extensive, his lectures are tough to follow, and his exams are very difficult. He does give extra credit to help you out. His class requires a lot of effort and devotion in order to even get a B. He is always wiling to help though.
He is indubitably a really intelligent teacher. He takes his job very seriously and hence the reason why his course has a lot of course work, some of which are very hard to keep up with. He is one of the most organized and prepared instructors I have ever had. You do learn valuable skills and lessons which are important for your future.
So much work! If you do it all, you will get a good grade, but this is sooooo much work. Im serious, soooo much freaking work. You still arnt sure, let me tell you again... this was ssooooo much work!! With that being said, hes a nice guy teaching a tough class. At the end of the course you do know a lot, but a lot of work other profs don't have,
Do not even bother taking his class. The HW is what killed my grade. If you do, make sure you have a good plan. His work is hard & time consuming. Spent 6 hours on 1 HW assignment when there were 4 per week. He doesn't teach, he reads the book & only shows diagrams. If you like working hard on assignments to not get full credit - he's your guy!
don't recommend . way too much work for a 200 level class!!! LONG homework, quizzes every class and he is super distracting and talks at you when you are trying to focus on a quiz or in class assignment. attendance taken every class at the end of the period so if you have to stay until the very end. goes full time and never is cancelled.
Professor Rutherford really cares about the subject, the class, and his students. I think he cares a little too much. His assignments are so long and time consuming. Vocabulary quizzes nearly every class. If you want an A you need to WORK for that grade. If you can, I recommend taking someone else; you probably won't learn as much but it's worth it
He a man who cares about his profession. I normally can't ask for much more than that. His attitude makes me care about the subject.
I took ITM 220 with him as a four-hour class once a week. It was by far the worst four hours of the week. He will lecture the whole time. At the beginning of every class, you will have at least one quiz. He will never let you out early he keeps you right to the end of the class if not longer. Also at the end of every class he takes attendance.
It is a real shame to see the amount of students that find this class to be so dreadful. It is entirely up to you to decide how you are going to preform in class. Definitely ask him for the key to studying for exams tho. Professor is a straight-shooter who cares about his students. He frequently encourages you to be an entrepreneur which is cool.
Don't take this unless you want to do loads of work everyday. He gives long assignments that are barely worth any of your grade. Easily the hardest class my friends and I have taken. Tests are really hard and he likes that students find the tests hard. If you can TAKE ANOTHER TEACHER I wouldn't recommend.
Overall an excellent prof if you want to work hard and learn. You work harder in this course than in any other but you will valuable skills. Tests are difficult but there is extra credit. Not a class for slackers or someone wanting the easy A.
This teacher is pretty intense. He's a military guy and makes it very clear in his classroom setting. The class itself is interesting but its hard to stay interested because there are A LOT of homework assignments which are very long and time consuming. If you're actually interested in tech., I would definitely recommend a different teacher.
No, just no. The only good thing I took from this class was getting good friends from going through this exhausting semester. He grades very meticulously an his tests are VERY misleading. Just because you know the concept does not mean you're going come out of this class with a rewarding grade. Has the mentality of "Professor always knows best"...
Scott is a very good dude and I have a lot of respect for him. The problem is that his assignments are EXTREMELY time-consuming and will not help you with his tests. His tests don't count that much but are deliberately designed to be hard. You will learn in his class but will also work harder than in any other class.
He gives a lot of assignments I found really pointless and expects dumb things to come from you. I wouldnt say he is a very good teacher as he expects too much of you and can be very confusing. There have been countless times in this class I have been extremely frustrated with him and I know the majority of my classmates are the same. Wouldnt take.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. He speaks way too fast during lectures to the point you can't even understand him. He gives an insane amount of homework to the point where you want to drop out. He is a hard grader on all of the homework as well. You take a test at the start of each class. His explanations are super long and confusing and don't help at all.
I just had my last class for MIS by prof. Rutherford and I have to say it's such a bitter sweet feeling, everyone in the class bonded so well. Despite all the bad ratings for him on here, he was one of the best prof. I've ever taken. If you plan to go to the tech field I would 10/10 recommend this class bc he will give you sooo many resources.
Rather a joke of a class due to his unorganized teaching style and unrealistic demands. He doesn't provide you with a master schedule with all the mandatory assignments, instead, he chooses to post due dates for different assignments in various different places. Second he spends a good chunk of every lesson bragging about his time in the air Force.
Do not take this class with this professor. It is beyond confusing and he intentionally try's to make students lives harder. The homework is ridiculous and passing is almost impossible. Avoid this professor for sure.
Alot of assignments, presentations and inclass assignment, he make students suffer
Whatever you do, don't take ITM with this professor. Even if it's your last option, take it next semester. You will be putting more into this 200 level class than most upper levels. I've never had so much work for a class. This is an easy class that he makes impossible. The fact that I had an A and still felt compelled to write this says something.
This is probably the best, but most difficult professor Mr. Rutherford. He is really hard but its for a reason. I see all these bad comments and its not right. He is probably the best teacher in the whole school. He actually makes students work for their grade while other teachers let there students fly by doing nothing. Thank you for everything.
Do not take proff rutherford. His classes are deadly boring and he assigns the most amount of homework that has no real value. During class you better pay attention because there are about 5 or 6 graded inclass assignments each class. His homework assignments are unrealistic and a waste of time. Worst Proffesor at UT
In all my years as a student, I have never had a worse teacher/professor in my entire life. He gives way more work than necessary. I have peers in the same class with different professors and they like the class and do not have nearly as much work. He consistently refers to his class as the most important class in the school, DONT TAKE HIM.
This professor did not care about his students at all. He would not respond to emails for days. His class was very very very unorganized, it seemed as if he never had a plan for the class. He assigned a ton of work each week which never made any sense to what we were learning.
Professor Rutherford is a really cool guy and has real life experience he shares in class all the time. I really enjoyed being in this class it's just a lot of work. His assignments are soooo detailed it almost overcomplicates things but overall he truly cares for his students and their knowledge of the subject. Doesnt answer emails quickly though.
Dont take him. Four hour lectures are the worst four hours of the week. Try your hardest and still get points taken off. Pay attention to detail as the assignments are like breaking into fort knoxs just to undestand what you are doing. IF you do get prof, rutherford good luck.
If you have to take this class and end up with Scott Rutherford as your teacher, just wait another semester to take it seriously. This class should've been an easy A but he makes the class 10x more difficult than it actually is. Man actually assigned like 3 homeworks a week for no reason. Worst professor I've had at UT.
Wouldn't recommend taking this professor. Worst 4 hour class, makes you stay longer than the time. Attendance is mandatory. Weekly term quizzes, assignments due every week, very detailed and complicated. A couple group projects, pay attention in class because he does in class graded activities. Take time to look for a different class.
I wouldn't recommend nor would I not recommend. It all depends on your intentions. Do you want to learn a lot stuff in the real world or do you want an easy A. He focuses a lot on attention to detail, critical thinking, and time management. 3 skills that can change your life. If you want an easy A take someone else. Full 4 hour classes do suck tho.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. Absolutely the worst professor for this class. He does not stop talking and takes something simple and makes it like rocket science. The class could be done so much quicker and he even changes the course to add a ton of unneeded information that makes you lose any interest in the class. Help yourself out and do not take him ever.
If you are looking for an easy A and don't want to put in a lot of effort, don't take him. If you are interested in tech and want to put the work in, then I would recommend. This professor is definitely not for lazy students. However, he is very passionate about tech and even grew my interest in the subject. You can learn a lot from him!
The reviews about Mr. Rutherford are dramatic. We are in college of course there is going to be work. Was he the greatest? No. But was he terrible? No. His schedule was set, his assignments were complicated but fair, and he always answered my emails right away. He never let us out early which sucked. But overall he was a good pick. I def learned.
Don't go into this class thinking it's tech heavy, it's not. He's really understanding if something happens, just email him. But don't expect a fast response, it took hours or days for him to reply to any of my emails. His assignments are too vague, you follow everything and do it how he showed you, so you think it's right but it's usually not.
this class is not hard if you just do your homework. each big assignment you have 3 attempts on and as long as you but effort into your assignments you can easily get an A. Everybody that rated this professor on here poorly has NO work ethic.
STAY AWAY! He makes this class way harder than it needs to be. The homework load is ridiculous and the grading criteria does not make sense. Literally pick anyone else.
Professor Rutherford's class is hard. That doesn't mean it isn't rewarding. I have gained a better understanding of Excel and the topics discussed, but it was not easy to do. This class is not for someone wanting to blow off homework until the last minute, get around group projects, or skip class when they feel like it.
If you don't have a work ethic, you will find this class to be hard. While some of the assignments are tedious and can be annoying, they really aren't that bad. If you can read/follow directions, you are fine. He is really passionate about what he teaches and it has been the most helpful class I have taken so far at UT. Work for your good grade!
I thought this class would be okay, but I was wrong. Professor Rutherford is pompous and mansplains most of the time you ask a question. The work isn't too bad, but I would much rather have had a different professor. If you don't go to class, your grade will be terrible.
I actually liked prof Scott but he is really strict. class started at 8 am and if you entered the class at 8:01 he would call you out in front of everybody. a lot of homework, quizzes, and tedious work. attendance is mandatory and there are a lot of in class assignments.
Take him. Show up to class on time, participate, and do the homework easy A. I handed in homework late regularly for partial credit but recommend doing all assignments on time. Professor cares about every detail so pay attention. Short online quiz every week and a lot of homework. Not bad at all though. Offers 5% to your final grade extra credit
this class is very difficult, there is a lot of homework assignments and group projects. However, I did learn a ton. Be prepared to spend a lot of time outside of class working on assignments. Overall, if you are looking for an easy class, don't take him, but if you want to grow in technology and learn more about computers he is a great choice.
This class demands a strong work ethic. The assignments are not necessarily difficult, but they are very time-consuming. Be prepared to dedicate a significant amount of time and effort. If you commit to doing the work you can do well in the class. You learn valuable things. If you're ready to work hard, this class is really useful and rewarding.
Even though I did well in this class, I would not recommend this professor. I have no idea why he has a 4.5, everyone in my class was miserable. There's an absurd amount of homework with long, vague directions. If you take him, be prepared to spend hours doing work that's intended to be helpful but is mostly just busy work.
horrible lecture at 8am was horrible he would ramble and use the whole class time. had 80 word vocab quizzes every week, numerous papers that were very hard to understand what to do and were 10 pages long attendance was mandatory and would give zeros all the time a lot of in class assignments numerous projects. the worst class ever and bad prof
This was defenitly the worst class I have taken at Tampa. He gives so much work every week and thinks that his class is your full time job. He keeps you till the last second of class in a 4 hour which is crazy. You also don't learn anything because everything he says is just all over the place.
Intense homework that takes forever to do, lots of group projects on top of other homework. Takes up all the class time till the last minute and expects you to treat the class like a full time job. I really don't recommend this class unless you want to be miserable.
Great professor.
Gives repetitive lectures for 2 hours then expects you to finish in-class activities within the last 5 minutes of class. Was often late to my next class. Doesn't help with solving issues with HW just expects you to figure it out. Has an ego problem and will weirdly threaten your grade if you are stuck on an assignment and simply just ask for help.
Over complicates every assignment has a weird way of describing assignment's with giving you every single small detail that has to be completed they way he says not much room for creativity or ability to think in your own way. Talks way to fast in class and never thinks he is wrong. Over all bad professor DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS
Terrible at time management! Always late to my next class. Cares if you are a minute late however holds you late almost every class which is funny. Instructions are awful on assignments. Not a good teacher by any means. Just word vomits in lecture, learned absolutely nothing from this class.
He's really not as bad as everyone says. Come to class and do the work, you'll be fine. He gives ALOT of homework but gives step by step instructions on all of them. He's nice and you'll learn if you actually put in effort. He also gives extensions if you ask.
Lectures didn't connect with the homework assignments, if you show up 1 minute late you might as well not even go because it will affect your attendance grade. Instructions on assignments were almost impossible to understand and they took multiple hours to complete. When you asked for help on assignments he said figure it out yourself.
He is a very strict person to his students but not to himself. He will keep you late in class and act like its not a problem, but its the end of the world if you are 1 minute late. Assigns a good 4-5 hours of homework a week and makes you treat it like a full time job. Also says the phrase "Type stuff" way to much.
He is nice but does not care to change anything about the way he teaches. Takes up the WHOLE time and will lecture until the last minute. He also takes forever to grade your homework, I'm still waiting on a grade from my first assignment. You have multiple assignments each week that take up a good deal of time.
Single handedly the worst professor I have ever had. Assigns and obnoxious amount of work so much that it will take away from your other core classes. You can never catch up in this class even if you are on top of your work. He is quite frankly an a** and thinks this class is the most important when all it does is take an excessive amount of time
Scott should not be a professor for this class. I was genuinely excited to learn about AI in ITM as it's a very interesting topic. However, Scott completely took the creativity and enjoyment out of this class with his two hour long meaningless lectures on his own company. It was almost that he only wanted to talk about himself. Has an ego issue.
His assignments make no sense at all. Lectures go to the last second if class, I think he just likes to hear himself talk. You spend hours a week on ONE assignment a lots of group projects. This practically is a full time job. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS
This man makes this class 100x harder than it needs to be. He is rude during class, calls you out, and makes your life miserable. It's not even that I don't want to do the work, he is seriously absurd. I'm a cybersecurity major and this should be the least of my worries of the other classes. Don't take this man. He is awful
He's nice don't get me wrong. But all he does is say “type stuff” and rants about his company. The excel workbooks take 5-12 hours a week depending. His four hour class is horrible. He emails us 5-10 emails before class about things we need to complete before class. Not homework just extra work. He thinks he's more important than other classes.
I have never had a worse professor in my life. His homework and projects can take up to 8 hours to complete. You need to follow his instructions that are literally incomplete thoughts down to the T, or you get a bad grade. He word vomits at you in class for 4 hours. He has a ChatGPT fetish. All his work is created by it, and it shows.
Buddy made me take up drinking again...............terrible class don't take it. So much more work than any other ITM professor. Loves talking about his company. I think he needs to be more like Eric Cartman.
I started expecting to learn lots, maybe I did for the first month. After that, the lessons blew. I've spent stupid hours on worthless projects & sat through ear numbing lectures, his words hold little value. He relies too heavily on ChatGPT, unable to design assignments or think critically without it. His affinity for ChatGPT might be romantic.
I have to buy a bottle of whiskey once a week to drink after his class. He is a terrible professor who has a fetish with AI. Has a very clear political opinion that shouldn't be shared in a class not dealing with politics. Loves saying "type stuff" and makes me want to drop out of this college.
Time for him to pack it up….
Rutherford is genuinely a good guy who cares about his class more than a lot of other teachers do. All of these other reviews are right about the heavy workload, but he is just a detail-oriented guy who wants you to get the most out of the class; that's why it goes the full 4 hours. Don't take a 4-hour class if you're only expecting to stay for 2.
Cool guy. Hard class. The classes are long and have loads of homework, but I thought Prof. Rutherford was a solid dude who wanted me to do well. He's ex-military and a business owner, so he has real-world credibility. You will for sure learn a lot about ITM and work ethic, but don't take it if you have no time.
He is a good guy that cares about his students. If you show up to class, participate, and do your work you will be good. The homework is a lot but its not overly hard. He will also keep you until the last minute of class every time.
Every class here gets 3 hours and 50 minutes worth of teaching time. He doesn't plan accordingly and runs out of time every class. I have taken multiple four-hour lectures, and all of them let people out 45 minutes to an hour early. The class is useless; anyone could do his job. Especially when he grades and creates assignments using AI......
I have never had such a terrible professor in my life. I do take my academics very seriously and understand having to study/ do a lot of homework. This man has ruined my whole semester with his 5 billion group projects which included filling in 15 pages of google docs and then a 10 minute video we had to put together.
He preaches about time management. But yet, he isn't able to practice what he preaches. I don't care that you have a business and are a professor at the same time; that is your own choice. Get to grading, you have one assignment graded from months ago, and no, the BS autograded assignments don't count. You have over 1,000 ungraded homework points.
He needs to get to grading; we spent hours upon hours on these homework assignments. Time to get to grading, buddy. You preach time management to us, but yet you have none yourself.
If you don't have a religion, get one and pray if you take this man's class.
Buns professor he makes me wanna drink.
DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT TAKE HIM AS A PROFESSOR. I DON'T CARE WHAT ANY OF THESE POSITIVE REVIEWS SAY. AS SOMEONE WHO DOES CARE ABOUT SCHOOL AND DOES MY WORK, I CAN EVEN SAY IT IS A LIVING HELL.
I spent around 10 hours a week doing homework in his class. Would rather chop my own balls off than take him again.
This guy is the worst professor on this whole campus. I would rather eat a box of rocks than take him again.
Guy is a complete clown show. Obsessed with ChatGPT and says "type stuff" 50 times a class. Unbearable, pointless homework assignments throughout the year, for the first 2 months, be prepared to have 6 hours of HW a week. He will keep you until class ends every time. Hasnt graded a single major assignment since the first week of class. DO NOT TAKE!
Loves ChatGPT…. His nice way of not responding to our questions is telling us to use ChatGPT. Lazy professor doesn't grade anything quickly waiting on 2,000+ points worth of work from months ago.
Arguably the worst professor I have taken in my whole academic career. Everything he does is chat gpt. All of his assignments are made through chatgpt. The assignemnts are impossible to understand because each assignment has over 100 different bullet points and steps to follow. Would not recommend this class to my worst enemy
His class is like watching paint dry. University of tampa should be ashamed that they hired this dork.
This guy is arguably the worst professor I've ever had. Worst class I've ever taken. I actually never wore my seatbelt driving to this class because I would've rather been ☠️
his class in on par with domestic terrorism. i genuinely think he has a relationship with his computer and makes love to chat gpt every night.
WHY ARE YOU GIVING US HOMEWORK THAT TAKES 2 1/2 HOURS TO 6 HOURS TO COMPLETE? SCOTTY, YOU NEED TO GET A LIFE.
Scott, why is your class so annoying? You need to get laid or something. Most obnoxious professor ever.
HE GAVE US WORK ON THANKSGIVING DAY. EMAILED US THANKSGIVING MORNING, GIVING US WORK TO SUBMIT THAT NIGHT. HE NEEDS TO GET A LIFE.
HE NEEDS TO TAKE XANAX
Did my final today, thank god I am out of that class. As someone who puts a lot of work into school, I have never seen a more uptight professor who assigns bs work. #Peaceoutrutherford
The hypocrisy is insane. He has you sign a work agreement at the beginning, basically promising that you will do your work. This man did not grade half of the assignments until the weekend before grades were due. He submitted my final grade minutes before they were due but still left some assignments ungraded. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! SAVE YOURSELF!
I find it very funny how we had very tedious projects/homeworks that he didn't even end up grading because of how last-minute he is with everything. He had us sign a work agreement, yet he can't do his job or grade.
