He is a horrible Geometry teacher. First of all, he is blind, so he cannot grade your tests correctly. He always makes mistakes in his grading. He also doesn't know how to teach Geometry and his tests are very hard.
Scott makes the difficult easy to understand
He's not easy, but a really good teacher. He will help you understand math, and that's not easy to do.

If you have to take statistics, take it with Sakamoto, he is the best teacher I have ever had for math. He will make sure that you learn it, he really does care about his students.
VERY COOL, NICE, AND FUNNY TEACHER. THE ONLY THING THAT IRRITATED ME WAS THE TESTS. HIS TESTS ARE HARD, SO STUDY YOUR BUTT OFF!
Take another teacher.
i loved scott's classes. they were some of the best math classes that i have ever taken. i did have to retake 160 but if scott had taught it, i would have taken it from him again. it is important to study because his tests are not the easiest things in the world. homework helps and use his office hours. he is interested in his students and fun
not very helpful outside his class
ehh...I really liked his personality, but when it came to math it flew over my head. He cant see literally, so alot of people try and cheat in his class. Funny guy, but i dont reccomend him. Take Dawson or Hauscauage.
Mr. Sakamoto is a nice, cool, & very smart person, but when it comes to his classes, he thinks his students know it all. His tests are soooo hard, even if you study your butt off. Please take another teacher if you can. Many students either fail or drop his class. Sorry, but true.
Sakamoto is a nice guy but CANNOT TEACH! His tests are so hard and he is blind!

Scott is the nicest guy. He's very helpful and very clear about what he's teaching. Make use of his office hours because he'll take all the time you need to get help on things you don't understand. He gives you a thorough outline, question-by-question of what's gona be on the tests, so it's really not that hard. Just do your HW!
Does not explain material well. He cant see (hes almost blind) so he has a hard time helping you oustide of class.
Scott is a very cool guy. He understands the math he teaches very well and is excelent at conveying the concepts. He will help anyone with anything in MaSH or durring his office hours. You don't necessarily have to show up to lectures if you understand the stuff, but you MUST do your homework.
he has a good sense of humor for being mostly blind (remember, don't raise your hand)...he is pretty tough, and not always the easiest to follow, but very reasonable and friendly. study hard for the exams
if you want to pass math find another teacher
hard class, unhelpful teacher might as well save yourself the time and take a different teacher unless you like to drop mid semester.
Awesome instructor, always always always willing to help! Just do your homework, and don't freak out on the final!
I didnt learn anything from him. I learned more teaching myself than from listening to his lectures. He wasn't helpful at all. He's almost completely blind... so when you ask him a question he has to take out his microscope to read your paper. Class started out with about 45 people in it, at the end of the class there was MAYBE 15.
I cannot believe that anyone could not enjoy Scott's class. He is friendly and jokes around with the students. He is very easy-going and doesn't collect homework. He only does that when the whole class is slacking. If you try hard, he will honor that. And there was always some extra credit on tests. That helped a lot.
Most people enjoyed him for a techer, but as for me I didn't really relate to him. He is a very nice person and is willing to help but he tends to whip through the material really fast
Stats is a very difficult subject but Scott is very good at explaining the material. He is patient and answers any questions you have. The tests are tricky, but the extra credit helps a lot. I would definitely take another one of his classes. I also recommend taking it on an accelerated basis. It's a little easier than during regular semester.
Scott is a great teacher. For a leagally blind guy! He really understands math and is a very easy going guy in the classroom. Has lots of homework, but if you do it you will be fine on the tests.
Yes Scott is a nice person, but his teaching skills are not up to par. He is unclear when explaining the material and tends to whip through it all so fast you're left scratching your head. I mostly had to put full faith in the book to teach the material. Watch out for his test, best of luck
good teacher
I love dem chips. Scott first off has a huge pectoral region. But he is blind. He is a great guy, and i would drink beers with him. BUT he doesn't teach very well.. He says he doesn't try and trick you on tests, but the hw in the book very little resembles his test problems.. bottom line take another teacher. Attrition rate was > Navy Seals.
I had him for Calc 1, I thought he was a great teacher. In my opinion he has been the best math teacher at SCC I've taken... and he's legally blind! Calc is a very visual subject with a lot of pictures and he still did a great job. Very concise at explaining problems and easy to understand. A++ for Sakamoto!
Goes over questions from homework. Will break down the problem. You determine your grade in the class-homework is barely collected but do it all! He does it different then the book, but you still need the book for practice. Practice tests and goes over tests. Writing is hard to read so sit close. Can be intimidating but ask questions anyway.
he is TOUGH AS HELL
Smart teacher, but i agree hard as hell. most people do not pass the class.
A HORRIBLE teacher! At the start of the semester the class was beyond full, the last week of the semester only 10 people showed up for the final. That's how many people had to drop!! You HAVE to do the hw, you HAVE to be there every class, and you HAVE to sit within the first two rows to even read his writing. DO NOT TAKE.
hard class, hard teacher. few people pass his class.
Scott lacks the ability to bridge the gap between his PhD. and making the subject understandable, nor does he care that his don't students understand. He is egotistical and has myopic view of teaching that is not in the students best interest, nor does he care about that either. Teaching is not what he is suited for and it shows. Don't take him!
Book does not help with tests, lecture does not help with tests, lecture does not follow book,Scott races through material without a care that students understand, tests sort of are like study guide,Scott can only see things his way, doesn't care what students have to say about teaching style or if students pass the class, most fail, horrible teacher.
Wow!!! I see I'm not the only person this semester that is not having a good experience in Sakamoto's class. Everyone I have spoken with in the class feels the same way. Take someone else for math, something is wrong with this teacher.
He is an okay guy as long as you don't ask too many questions. A little deprogramming and humility and Scott has the potential to be a very good professor.
he is a great professor, but his class is so hard...not his fault...just a lot of material in a short time...i took him twice for stats, and the second time, was failing, but he said that if i pass the final, i pass the class...i got an A on the final
There is so much material because he adds extra material to the class that others do not like at Santa Ana. It is his fault the class is so hard. People are so easily tricked, he is the Dept. Head, Duh! Avoid this guy! Used car salesman act cool before they do what they do to you also. That doesn't make them cool! It makes them creepy!
Scott was an amazing teacher. The class wasn't very hard as long as you go to every class and make cheat sheets (which he allows). He is a really nice guy, easy to talk to. And the tests don't trick you and are not very difficult. I would DEFINITELY reccomend him.
He sounds hard, but actually not~ He gives out practice tests prior to each exam~ So don't worry!!!!
scott is a great teacher and his class is pretty easy. do all the hw (he collects it) and the practice tests he hands out and do the 2 pages of notes he allows for tests. if you do the work and pay attention you will get an A in his class no problem. he is a pretty understanding teacher if you have to leave or miss class also.
I'll keep it short: took Nance for Stats--had to drop. Took Scott the following semester: passed with an A. Scott's awesome, laid back, and doesn't go off on stupid rants. Take.
great teacher, even though hes a little blind do not let that discourage you from taking him. He is funny and VERY PATIENT.Dont be afraid to ask for help. TAKEE HIMMMM
I thought he was a very reasonable teacher. I heard people complain about him, but that's just lazy people who don't really want to be in college. Show up, do your part, ask questions and you will be fine. I found him very helpful, very fair, and very down to earth. I would definitely take another class with him.
Cool guy, fair grader, gives xtra credit on tests sometimes. Not recommended for people who can't take criticism, like to be babied or easily intimidated. If you take him, i HIGHLY recommend signing up for MASHlab, for 5bux you get unlimited tutor help, which i found more helpful than scott himself. Nice guy, OK teacher, funny, NOT and EZ A
Easiest math teacher I've ever had. His lectures are really clear and straight-forward. He collects hw though, so do all of it. He has a good sense of humor and tries to keep the class interesting. Overall I would take him again, if you study, do your hw, and don't slack off and get lazy, his class is really, really easy. I would take him again.
good teacher. good guy. goes over material rather quickly so make sure you are paying attention or you will miss it. i ended the semester w/ a C+ which was a mistake. i notified him and he gladly fixed it. that is the sign of a responsible prof. do your work and study well. definate a or b in the class.
Math is not my forte, but Scott taught the class well. I understood most of the material. There is a lot of HW, but it helps you later on when studying for an exam. He goes over HW questions at the beginning of class, which is also helpful. He gives extra credit on exams. Take his class! Good luck.
He is officially my favorite math teacher! He is so helpful and makes math seem so much easier. If you do the hw and understand the material you will pass no problem.
He is not that good of a teacher. Mr Scott is much better than him. I had Mr Scott for 180H and was expecting the same skill of teaching in Sakamoto, i was disappointed.
Scott is a great teacher even though he is blind he can still teach very well!!! makes class fun and worth going to. if you study go to class and do all you hw there is no reason you shouldnt get an A
Scott is awesome! The class is hard but he makes it fun. He is intimidating at first, but he's really approachable and soft. He's a math genius so you have to pay attention to keep up. Highly recommend!
Scott is awesome teacher! It was my first math class in few years. but in his Precal class I recalled and learned everything I needed to start calculus. If u pay great attention to his lectures, material becomes easy. Clear, helpful and funny teacher! A+
Extremely tough teacher. Expects you to know EVERYTHING on the tests. That includes examples done in class, textbook examples, etc. There's much content on each of his tests its extremely difficult to remember all of them even after doing the homework and studying. I highly suggest you do not take him. He has a high drop rate due to his difficulty.
Great professor!! The class wasn't easy but if you put in the effort you will be ok. I had this class at 7:30 in the morning but he's very funny and it kept the class interesting. I definitely recommend this professor.
Hes an okay teacher but I couldn't really understand his writing when he did examples. It made me even more confused. I didn't like that he makes you print out the notes I'd rather write down my notes instead of just filling them in. Overall he's a good teacher but tough to understand
He is a great teacher and he really explains the material to you. He also is really funny so its not boring. He is a tuff teacher he makes you earn your grade. Just don't miss class and you'll do great.
I took Dr. Sakamoto's class winter intersession and was afraid I would not be able to handle the amount of work. However, it was easy to understand the material because he will help explain any confusion or questions you have. I've taken stats before and got a D. Took him and got an A. Lets you have a cheat sheet for each exam. Use them!
While this is a hard class for most people who need to take it, Sakamoto made it doable. All you have to do is listen and he really couldn't be any clearer on what you need to know. Ask questions if you don't get it- he'll answer them until you understand. Pretty laid back and funny. I'll be taking him for as many classes as I can.
Would never ever take a class with him again.
This was a REALLY hard class but I loved it. He expects a lot from you, but that's because this is an honors class. Content wise the class was not too difficult because there is a lot of reviews available for the tests. He's always there to help if you ask but expect to pull your own weight. Upset he won't be teaching any more classes for my major.
I took Sakamoto winter semester. This is expects you to know everything from book and hes lectures. Hes exams are tricky and really hard to pass hes class, statistically only 30% of students barely pass and others fail the class. If you are not a math genious don't take him. Nice and funny but not recomended to all students.
There is a lot of hw, which doesn't really help you for the exam, but they add up to A LOT of points SO DO THEM. As long as you do the practice test and show up when he goes over it, you'll be fine for the exam!! He tells you exactly what other types of questions he could ask, adds 10+ pts ec, & allows a cheat sheet on each test. Not a hard class.
Although Sakamoto is a great and funny person, I don't recommend his class. He lectures and goes through material so fast you can't even write it down. You can ask him a question about a problem and he still won't guide you how to get the answer. Just says read the book. Sometime's the books not that clear! Be prepared to teach yourself.
I got a C in Precalculus from another college. Got an A in Calculus 1 with Sakamoto. Best math teacher I've ever had. Took him for summer 2015, there were 4 tests. I admire how easily he teaches, being blind. Do the homework and go to SI. A quote I'll always remember from him: "Nothing is hard, you just don't know how to do it." Easy A.
Scott was the best math teacher I've ever had! He is hilarious, always making a pun or joke. I was not a math person before I entered this class and now I can honestly say that I like math a lot. Be sure to print out your notes and follow along closely in class and you'll do good. Ask questions!! Study your butt off and you'll do good!
Funniest guy you will meet. super down to earth. Honestly, the material is insanely hard. but he lets you have a cheat sheet every test and the final. plus, with all the homework you remember how to do things. in addition, there is SI and the statistics lab which is definitely needed to understand everything. best teach for this material hands down
He makes the material easy to understand. The tests are on the harder side but I'm not very good at taking tests. He lets you use a cheat sheet for the tests. The notes and practice tests are very helpful for studying for the tests.
I'd want to take any class that Professor Sakamoto teaches... he is a hilarious guy and an amazing teacher that really tries to make his lectures clear and easy to understand. Even though this was the first college class I've ever taken (I'm a cap student), I had no problem because Scott does his best to make sure you don't fall behind.
He lets you use cheat sheets on the test which helped me a lot. The final was definitely hard.
Second time taking Calc 3. Excellent teacher. He's very funny and engages with the class. Has notes you can follow along with. Tests aren't insanely difficult and he's VERY transparent about what's going to be on them. I wish I could have had him for all of my math classes.
Sakamoto is so brilliant that he doesn't understand that students are learning the material for the first time so I spent many hours in tutoring to get a separate instructors take on the subject. Study guides are exactly like the test so make sure to study those. Allows front and back cheat sheets on all tests and 2 for final, take advantage!
Sakamoto is helpful, humble, approachable, and funny too, lectures are straightforward but his writing can be messy. No SI or quizzes, unfortunately, so study in a group to raise your chances for each test. Tests are no joke. Do HW, get extra help, and if u think u already know it, practice anyway. It's not easy but it is possible to pass.
Scott is a really nice guy who clearly cares about his students. He is easily one of the most knowledgeable and intelligent professors I have ever had instruct a class, and he makes lectures bearable with his humor. The class is extremely difficult due to the heavy content, so dedicate plenty of time to studying and practicing. Find a study group!
Professor Sakamoto was often unorganized and his lectures were confusing. He usually went through the lectures too fast. Several times I asked him to clarify math examples from his lectures. All he would say is, look in the textbook. I barely passed the class. I wouldn't recommend this teacher for Calculus.
Heres the truth: Ive never gotten an A on any of my math exams EVER. Sakamoto does such an amazing job at teaching that I got As on his exams... I couldnt believe it. I wanted to cry! An A on a calc exam? So surreal. Just finished my summer math 180 course with him today. All I can say is, take Sakamoto.. listen to him and appreciate him. :)
Sakamoto is a good professor, but make sure to pay attention in class. I took him over the summer so make sure to have your text book the first day of class, you will need it for hw. If you take his class with an additional class it will be challenging. Allows 1 cheat sheet (front&back) for exams and 2 cheat sheets for final exam.
As a person, profoessor sakamoto is great! but for me, I couldnt keep up with his teaching /:. There was a ton of homework and you have to print out 75 pages of notes a month (not exaggerating). If youre a fast learner, then hes great (:. If youre like me and have trouble with math, maybe take a different teacher.
(1/2) Although visually impaired, Scott is amazing! He helped me a lot in MaSH. Lectures were great but after every test, you have to print out loads of papers (notes for the class). 3 Tests, 1 final. 1 Cheat sheet, front and back for tests, and 2 for final. OH, he's super funny.
(2/2) When testing is near, there's lots of homework - project (not really a project, just like practice q's), regular hw, and actual practice q's so be aware of that. You go over them the day before the test. If you don't do practice q's and project, he'll make you leave so you won't hear the answers to them. Overall, TAKE HIM. He's caring + kind.
Professor Sakamoto has a great knowledge of statistics. He provides a notes outline that students must print out with and is recommended to fill out during his lecture. Homework is from the book and he creates his own test. There were three tests and a final given. I personally found the tests very challenging.
Tests are uber hard, the stuff you do for notes and homework may not look like what are on the tests. The tests will also be like 90% of your grade. No review of the material on the final and it was given a 2 days after the chapter 5 test, hope you studied the right material to pass.
He is an amazing professor!! I was never good at math until I took him for Statistics. Beware that it is a challenging class that wont be easy to pass unless you put the work in. Participate in class and be involved!! That will help a lot in understanding the concepts. Take MASH and any help you can get. Otherwise he is super funny and caring.
He really wants to help each student succeed in calc and tries to prepare the students who need to move onto calc 2
Professor Sakamoto is my favorite math teacher thus far. He explains everything clearly and allows a cheat sheet for the tests. As long as you pay attention, attend every class, do the homework, and reach out when you need help, you will pass.
The majority of the grade you'll receive in the class is based on unit exams, which were really difficult. There is no extra credit and none of the tests are going to be dropped so you have to make sure you do well on the exam. I personally did not do well with his teaching style. If you want to get an A in calculus, don't take this class.
worst math professor i've ever had. he goes over things way too fast. he acts like he's willing to help but makes it very intimidating and almost scary when you do. you aren't going to pass if you don't do well on the tests. good luck studying for those, we have review sessions but he doesn't give a formal answer sheet for the review problems.
I failed this class because of his teaching style. The tests are extremely difficult and they feel different from what you studied. Half of the class cheated on one of the exams. Normally math is my best subject but I failed in this class. Your grade relies heavily on these tests so good luck passing. He doesn't give enough to review for the exams
I took his stats class online over the summer and as someone who is terrible at math, Mr. Sakamoto really took his time to make sure no one gets left behind in his class. Make sure you take advantage of his practice problems before tests!
I would never recommend this man to anyone. I self taught myself during this whole class. He is rude and condescending when you ask questions. I understand that he has a visual impairment, but he also has a short fuse. I was in the helper class and it went so fast, I studied everyday and barely got by. Take a different Professor if you can.
Scott Sakamoto is very eager to help students succeed. He even had office hours over spring break and on Memorial Day Monday to make sure that we were successful. Statistics takes time but with some effort it's definitely doable. He is a good listener (when you ask questions), patient and he NEVER makes anyone feel stupid for asking questions.
I loved Mr. Sakamoto. He is very passionate about the subject he teaches and makes sure that everyone understands the material before moving on. He is one of the best math teachers I've ever had. He also cares about his students and wants you to succeed!
Professor Scott works very fast. If you don't know what's going on he won't bother to help. Because he is visually impaired the kids in the back of the class cheat while the ones in the front failed. He is really sarcastic. He encourages us to ask for help but seems bothered when you do.
Scott is great, the bad reviews are from people wanting math for preschool. He does go fast but he'll explain it in great detail if you ask and he's very knowledgeable (and funny). Only thing is that his grading system is hard to follow and homework is not on canvas so your full grade isn't clear until the end. Textbook was untouched, all lecture!
Coming from someone who is absolutely horrible at math, Scott definitely made this math class a great experience. Honestly, if youre struggling he is always eager to help at the MSC or office hours. Theres online homework for all 11 chapters, 3 exams, 2 projects that are simple, and the final exam. No textbook needed.
Prof. Sakamoto made Calc 2 an easy class without compromising any of its ideas. He understands mathematics deeply and provides complete and satisfying answers if you ask for details. I would highly recommend him for any class. The quizzes are redeemable. He uses assessment as a means to teach and crystalize concepts, not to penalize. Excellent!
This professor was great, you can tell he really cares because he did a lot to help our class be successful.
Overall I wouldn't recommend avoiding it if you can, I have nothing personal against the guy but if you are not good at math I would highly recommend taking this class with another professor. The majority of the people that I met in that class dropped/withdrew after the first couple of tests if that tells you anything.
Professor Sakamoto is seriously the best professor I have ever had. He is extremely smart and very knowledgeable in many different types of math. His class was hard work but he will do everything he can to help you succeed. As long as you do the work and do the guided/ practice problems you will be fine. I was in his stats class.
Do not take his online courses. Go to his in person class or take it with another teacher. Not sure why he has an online class. He does not post lectures or anything. You take notes from random YouTube videos that are 10 years old. His exams are hard and make up your entire grade. You could have a 100% on the hw/ quizzes but still fail. Awful!
I never understood calculus better than when I took his 8am course (math is hard for me, and this was my 3rd attempt). He really makes you understand, and lays out ALL of the tools required for you to pass. I found myself talking a lot more to students and attending study sessions, and I passed with a mid C. Highly recommend.
I loved taking Professor Sakamoto. I will forever be grateful for his lenience with me, as his support and patience with me being a full-time student at a diff college. His graciousness is the only reason I passed and the structure of his class is so efficient for understanding math. I would recommend him to anyone.
I took his class in spring. Expected it to be like all the other online classes I took. Instead it was more of an after thought. He had no lectures posted. Only tutorials from YouTube. His tests were material I had never seen before. His class was a waste of my time and money. I took a different summer class and passed with a professor who cares.
He's a nice teacher, but I constantly struggled in his class back when I had him in the spring this year. He does provide many extra credit opportunities (worth lot too). He also links in lectures on how to do certain problems within the homework and it's not even him in the lecture videos at all. And the tests are worth so much of your grade.
Allows you to fix quiz grades if you show him you know how to do it. Great feedback, online course content is easily accessible. The videos you watch that he provides are more than enough to teach you (mathispower4u). If you take him in person, you will love it. He has the type of personality you wont forget, hes a great funny guy. A is achievable.
I took his class in the spring. We had practice exam problems, he offered extra credit homework, and we could make up our quizzes. He didn't want us to focus on memorizing formulas (cheat sheets were allowed) but to focus on the big picture of calc 1. He's funny and goes out of his way to be accessible out of class.
Took stats in person and he has such a good way of teaching that actually helped me understand. Has extra credit opportunities, practice problems, and the guided problems he assigns are so helpful. Honestly enjoyed this class this semester which is surprising considering I HATE math.
If you have him in person, Professor Sakamoto is a great professor, but I had his hybrid class. It consisted of watching lectures from other professors about 10 years ago, so I wouldn't recommend taking him online. Something great is that he is lenient on grading. I feel like you need to understand math on a decent level to get a passing grade.
Highly recommend Scott.
Just don't talk his class, trust me, just don't. Tests are nothing like homework, homework has questions with no videos, questions on test you can get negative points so if it was 10 questions and 100 points, you can lose 15 points on a question. It's not fun.
He teach off video on MOM. Very strict and take points away mercilessly. If you dont follow instruction, you dont get extra credit. Dont take him online, he will make the exam extra hard. Terrible experience with him.
The professor has a unique teaching style, but if you engage with it, you'll learn a lot. Use resources like unstuck AI, the free textbook, and study sessions to succeed.
His way of teaching was purely through MOM videos that were years old. The example videos would often not correlate with the homework. He takes points away very easily and with little to no explanation why. You can't see what you got wrong on tests, therefore it's impossible to learn from mistakes.
Be ready to teach yourself if you take this class. The only resources on homework are ancient my open math videos that often did not match the given problems. While there were several homework assignments due everyday, they were worth hardly any points. The tests make or break your grade, and Sakamoto is an extremely strict grader.
Sakamoto is a wonderful teacher but I can imagine it would be challenging to take an online class from him. He is fantastic at explaining things and if you can speak to him in person and go to his office hours, you can absolutely be successful. He will work with you and make things understandable, but you have to take the initiative and go to him.
Professor Sakamoto is my favorite professor at SCC. He is literally the most chill guy out there and explains topics really well. If you show up and take the notes you will pass easily. His only flaw is he is a tough grader and will mark you down for little things but he offsets this by allowing you to use notes and guided problems on exams.
Sakamoto is organized & communicative! Online Stats & Prob sounded intimidating but once I understood process (which he clearly explains) it is efficient! Also offers EC & advises us of due dates, plenty of time to work ahead! There is a textbook, provided notes' outline, links to videos, and cool hw quizzes. All help to reinforce the material.
Not alot to say. He doesnt really teach just uses videos. We had homework everyday and the quizes were kinda hard. The exams in comparsion were definitally harder. Extra cedit at the end and one project. I didnt think it was possible to be curve and be a strict grader but he does it. HOLY HOMEWORK. 7/10.
Not a good professor. No actual teaching, just YouTube videos. Homework is easy and auto-graded, but tests are much harder and count the most. He grades very harshly ( I missed 2 questions, got a 75) and gives no proper feedback. Feels like he puts in minimal effort, and anyone can do his job. Would not recommend, take someone else.
I would not recommend taking this class. Due to tough grading, and does not explain very well. Also his communication is awful.
Unreasonably tough grader, if you can take this class online with another professor the content will definitely be easier but if you must take it with sakamoto the class is still pretty doable.
