HE SAYS SOME VERY WEIRD STUFF IN CLASS AND YES HE WILL TAKE UP ALL OF HIS TIME. HE IS ALSO EXTREMELY HELPFUL ESPECIALLY WITH PAPERS ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS GO AND SEE HIM DOING HIS OFFICE HOURS. THE CLASS IS EASY AND HE IS ALSO ALWAYS WILLING TO READ PAPERS

He is very helpful. He offers conference opportunities and understands when you don't have time to prepare a rough draft. If you show effort, he will reward it. Another plus...he occasionally cancels class!

he is a good teacher. he makes effort to keep the class as interesting as possible. he is very helpful with essays, willing to read through it to make sure youre on the right track. makes expectations very clear!

I thought the class was great, the tests are really easy, and yes you do have to read every day but you can get by with an easy B without reading, shame on all of you for rating him badly

He is a wonderful teacher. Very helpful. Has weird topics that are kinda hard, but if you take advantage of your conference times and office hours, he will help you out. Keeps class interesting! Highly Recomennded!!!!!!

His tests were difficult because of so much material, but the final isn't that bad because he uses the same questions more than once. He makes his lectures interesting even though the material isn't always. He is clear on what he wants and will give, but it's a lot of material.

Seriously guys, y'all are whining way too much. From the previous posts, I expected him to be the spawn of Satan, but his class isn't really that bad. He's very helpful if you go to his office hours, and his midterm and final are easy if you just read (or Cliff Notes). Paper kind of sucks though.

He has the tough guy attitude at the start to scare you off, but it doesn't last. Daily quizzes are a pain and force you to attend class. His papers are easy and so are his midterm/final IF YOU STUDY. Spark Notes/Google are your best friends. He is serious though, if you have an 89.7 he still won't curve to 90.

It's Great Books so it's boring. If you go to class and keep up with the reading you will get a B. Study for the final it's not as easy as the mid-term.

OH Mr. Simkins. He would be hard as hell and unrecomended if he weren't so funny. VERY sarcastic, sometimmes a little scary but always hilarious. Don't take him in the morning. He gets crazier as the day goes. You'll work hard but if you have a dry wit you'll have fun.

He was an easy teacher. He did require you to put some effort in your studies, but not much at all. Come on people this is college you have to put in some effort. Grades papers easily. Gives quizzes at the beginning of class, those are a great advantage because he uses a lot of those questions on his tests.

World Lit with Mr. Simkins is HILARIOUS!!! He has a very outgoing personality, and his quizzes are not that bad. I highly recommend taking Mr. Simkins!!

He definitely does not make comments that border sexual harassment. I'm pretty sure I know which girl wrote that and believe me, he wouldn't sexually harass her.

At first, the saracasm of this teacher bothered me and I thought he was rude and mean, but he actually turned out to be quite helpful. Some of the topics for the essays are difficult but if you try and ask him for advice, then you will do FINE. After conferencing with him, I realized he was a good teacher and im tkaing him again next semester.

Nice class because we didn't have to go a lot and only papers, journal, and final were graded, but a tough grader on papers. Better write them by the book. Creativity won't help you.

Very wonderful/VERY funny, you have to try a little and you will do well in his class. I probably showed up everyday of his office hours and everytime he corrected my paper. But last semester (spring 06) I had a 79.25 and he wouldnt round, no biggie. His classes are great when everyone in the class talks, a must have teacher!

I had this teacher both semesters of english comp and at first I didnt like his sarcasm as much but he really helped me out second semester. My advice would be to get to know him, bring your books to class (even if you didnt do the reading) and try to do your best. you should get a B at least. he wont round up and hes kinda liberal but overall nice

I took this guy the entire year because he ended up being so great. he is sarcastic at times, but its easy to get used to. if you ask him for help you should have no problem getting at the very least a B! im hopefully taking him next year. can be unclear but overall probably one of the easier english teachers in auburn! take him!

Dr. Simpkins is honestly the best teacher I have had at Auburn. He expects alot from his students, but his class discussions are interesting, if you do the assigned reading. Some of the works are not so great, but overall, the class is really easy.

he does require attendance and gives a quiz at the begining of each class to be sure you've read your stuff but the quizzes can help your grades. his midterm and final are exactly alike and he tells you the short answer quesstion or a few of them. he is helpful but vry hard about grading papers but if u can prove you point hell fix your grade.

Dr. Simkins is a great professor. He explains all papers very well and opens the floor for questions after explaining anything. He can be sarcastic at times, but he's not bad. Four papers are required for his class, but he offers voluntary conference days when he cance;s class. He is very helpful. I enjoyed his class.

He does give a quiz pretty much every day. If you read even a little you'll be fine. If you're looking for an unusual guy who loves to teach then Simkins is for you. He has an odd sense of humor which I loved, but might not be for everyone. Oh yeah, and he showed Duck Soup in class. Awesome!

He is kind of intimidating at first but his class is pretty easy. There are 4 papers throughout the course and you have to do mandatory conferences before each paper is due. If you are good at writing and do the web posts then you will easily make an A. Overall not a bad teacher

In-class quizzes everyday over reading, funny teacher but not an easy class, requires a lot of work. Don't expect to get a better grade on your paper if you go see him, Pay attention to minor details because he asks questions about that kind of stuff on the mid-term and final. He is really funny to listen to though,

Probably the easiest Lit teacher from what I've read on here. This class was fair. 2papers, 2in-class essays, and simple reading quizes everyday. I believe he graded papers well. I suck at writing and got a 95&72 on the papers. The 2 tests are easy if you've read. The 1st essay is hard-600 words in 50min. His jokes are dirty and unfunny. Oh well

He is pretty awful. His tests are kind of hard and his essays are ridiculous topics. He expects way too much for just a Lit class.

Very fair lit teacher. easier of the 2 that i had.simple in class quizes. you have to study for tests but it is minimal work i made a B and didnt try too hard

Very laid-back; kept class lively with jokes and discussion. You DO have to read because there are reading quizzes everyday, but as long as you do the work, the tests (there are 2) are easy. As an English major I had no problems with his papers. A fun guy and one of my favorite professors this semester - I'd definitely recommend him!

He has a very dry and sarcastic sense of humor, so you should take what he says with a grain of salt. Make sure you read the syllabus for assignments or he WILL yell at you for 50 minutes about how you'll never graduate and how you suck at life. That was awful, but otherwise, not bad. 4 papers, a brief essay for the final.

I took business comp 2. This comp class was way easier than the first one I took. He is VERY helpful during office hours. When you make rough draft appts, make sure your paper is nearly done so that he can fully help you. You are able to choose your own business topics for the papers, but make sure you enjoy business topics if you take the class.

If you read every night, and pay attention to footnotes, you'll do well on quizzes. Tests aren't too bad. He's a very interesting character, but maybe too interested in the girls sometimes. I'd say sit closer to the back if you're a girl. He does make the class interesting, though.

Not a bad guy at all. He jokes a lot, some are funny, some are not. when he's not screwing around, he covers the material thoroughly and clearly, and he's a very fair grader. Definitely do your reading though, there's a (easy, 5 questions max) quiz basically every day.

He's plainly states what he expects of you. You have a short reading quiz almost everyday. You will also have two papers to write, they are 5-6 pages long and aren't hard. I am NOT an English Major. Take the guy, he's kinda quirky!

Great professor!I had him for Early American Lit & he really gets nerdy with the stuff he knows. He is a difficult grader but if you participate in class, do the readings (there is a lot due every class time), & visit him at least once in his office, you will pass. Papers are a bit tricky but not too difficult. Just be nice & he'll return the favor

Simkins is one of the most entertaining teachers you will ever have. He is also one of he most informative. Admittedly, he is kind of weird. But he is quite personable and loves his subject. Would recommend him.

There is a lot of reading. It's a freaking Lit class, so suck it up and get your core credits out of the way. He is an enrapturing lecturer and gives plenty of historical background and stories to accompany your texts. If you read and show up for class, you will pass. There is no surprise material. He is funny and has a great love for the subject.

He's really nice and super helpful. There's some reading it's not bad. The only grades he has are 5 essays and a presentation (which is your final) but if you ask him for help and go to his office you should make an A no problem. The only thing bad I would say is his page requirements are kinda long so make sure you have a lot to talk about.

He has an interesting, but good sense of humor. The readings were too long sometimes, especially considering it was a core class. The tests and assignments were easy if you write down what he says in class. I enjoyed the class. Only 2 tests and bi-weekly short papers.

Dr. Simkins is really knowledgable about literature and willing to help. Everyone says he is really hard, but if you go to class and read you can definitely get an A. Also go to your GTA's office hours to get help on papers and you will be fine.

I really enjoyed Dr. Simkins' class and like him as a teacher. He's very quirky but it makes class more interesting. He's a pretty easy grader and gives specific requirements for papers; if you follow them you shouldn't have a problem getting an A. Theres some reading but its easy. He also really cares about his students and their success

Dr. Simkins is quirky and I enjoyed his class. It's important to read before class for sure. He grades the papers pretty strictly but so it's definitely worth taking your time. His office hours are super helpful and he wants you to pass if you're showing that you are putting forth the effort. Wish I could take him for post-1865.

Simkins is an entertaining guy. When it comes to papers, he has a very clear vision for what he wants, so GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS. Made a C on my first paper and an A on the rest because I'd get him to review my papers 2-3 times before turning them in. He gives good feedback and will give you an A if you put the time in.

Dr. Simkins is a great professor who challenges his students to think critically about their readings. His office hours are a must, so that you understand his grading criteria. He gives great feedback if you present him your paper before it's due, and his class is very discussion heavy. His exams come straight from the discussions, so take notes.

Simkins is the best english teacher I've had at auburn. If you answer the prompts with a pretty good reasoning and analysis for the essays, midterm and final it is an easy A.

I had Dr. Simkins for half a semester after my original professor had to take unexpected leave. He is a really nice guy and cares and wants to help his students. He is not a tough grader and has plenty of office hours to attend too. Definitely a great professor and take him if you can!

Dr. Simkins is a great teacher. His class gets a little difficult at times but as long as you're doing your work and turning it in on time, you will be fine. He is a really nice and approachable guy, so go to office hours because he is very helpful 1 on 1. Overall, his class is very enjoyable and he is a fun teacher

He let the class lead discussion through group prompts, which made class super interesting and not difficult. There was one analysis paper 60% and an analysis proposal 20% and participation grade. You need to attend class but he picked some good books and had several different topics we explored throughout the semester. Fair grader and a good class

If you are a strong writer and want to spend the semester researching/writing about something you are passionate about then I recommend Dr. Simkins. I feel his criteria in grading was pretty clear, but he is nitpicky about redundancies/etc in papers. He goes on little tangents in lectures, and you work on the research project on your own

will often crack jokes and tries to keep things interesting. makes you do zoom conferences to review main essays so you won't have to go to several classes over the course. make sure you avoid redundancies and prose cause he hates them. spend entire course researching one topic so pick one you're interested in

Dr. Simkins was a great professor, funny and eager to lead class discussions. Lots of reading but only three grades for this semester: A paper proposal, a final paper, and participation. Ask him for help outside of class and you will do well on your final paper. Be sure to go to class. Online books available for free.

I took his online early American lit class. He is very invested in the material and that makes his lectures interesting. Extremely fair grader and have good feedback. Exams were easy if you kept up with the readings. If you need to get a class out of the way in the summer, this one is a good choice.

I took the LA course. The way the class is set up is there are about two short stories you should read before class, and in class he goes around each group and you answer each prompt at a table. You don't need to speak if you do not have to, and I think he is quite funny. Take notes on how each prompt is answered, but I enjoyed this class!

Few graded assignments. You will discuss readings in every lecture. attendance is mandatory. He is hilarious. If he sees that you want to do well in the class, he will help you. He doesn't talk about assignments in class so go out of your way to ask him questions. Watch the online lectures, they are very helpful for the tests.

Simkins is very quirky, and you just have to appreciate his sense of humor because he is extremely smart and passionate so he makes it interesting. You can get away with not reading every time, but it will catch up to you on the exams if you don't know the material. It is a discussion-based class with only a few graded opportunities.

Dr.Simkins is a great teacher, his class is not an easy A but if you try to get invested in the discussions and study all the stories before the exams you will be fine. I would recommend using his study aids that are on his canvas as they help a lot. He is super funny and nice and is easy to talk to. I would recommend taking his class.

I loved taking this class, it was the easiest English class I've taken by far. Only have to write 3 short papers, a couple of easy grade-boosting assignments, and in-class discussions. Professor Simkins is too kind for this world and wants you to just talk to him and engage in class. Very lenient on late work. 10/10 Recommend taking this course.

You read every other night, if you don't, you're screwed. The stories are normally between 30min-1hr, not awful, and most have audiobooks. You also have to take notes in class, that'll make your life easier. He has only a few graded assignments, including the tests, which you have to prepare for. But besides all that, he's super sweet and kind.

CLA only section: Dr. Simkins is a nice man who knows a lot about the material. The class is a breeze until the end. There are daily readings of long stories, and the class is purely group discussion based. The midterm and final are challenging and require extensive prep. Few grades besides midterm, final, & 6 page essay. Not much feedback given.

Get ready to do a lot of work. However, he is awesome. He loves to talk. He did ask a lot, but it wasn't too bad; just try to manage your time wisely. I would take him again. One of the best professors I've had so far

Dr. Simkins is very passionate about Literature. There are about five grades for the entire year: 3 papers, a recitation, midterm, and final. If you go to his office hours he will make sure to help you the best he can. Attendance is mandatory. maybe 2 or 3 lectures, discussions every day and readings for every class.

Super sweet and funny guy. You pick 1 topic at the start of the semester, write a bunch of papers on it, and make it into an eportfolio. Cancels class often. Miss more than 3 classes and you fail. Don't need to read the textbook. Enjoyable if you like writing, but very hard for a core composition class. I love writing, so I would take him again.

This class requires a lot of reading and preparation, but the discussions led by the professor are engaging. unstuckstudy helped me stay on top of the readings and exams.
