easiest class i've had at sfcc... if u have any past experience in music or in reading notes, it's an easy A+.. and even if u have no prior experience, it's an easy B.. he gives individual help to those who need it and u usually get out of class early everyday

Awesome teacher! His lectures follow along with the book most of the time. His tests are fair.

Took it online. Followed Course guideline and calendar schedule very easy to understand. Studying the book is the main key to passing the tests. Would highly recommend. The only thing I didn't like was the CD use on exams but it only missed me a few questions.

TOok it online. Participation is needed. Quizzes are easy if you read the book, but tests are somehow hard. He seems not to be interested in communicating a lot, but he is respectable. Have to have the book as well as extra CD's. Subjects were interesting and I learned a lot. Course offers an elementary music terminology which helps.

I'm finishing up my first semester in Theory with Smolenski and he's pretty great. I've taken theory before in high school, but he's filling in all the gaps and I'm learning lots of new stuff. He's a composer (he's played some of his work and it's pretty fantastic) so he has a unique perspective on theory. Very practical. Very fair.

Clear and predictable instruction

He tries to make the assignments convenient and gives you like 5 to 7 days to complete them. The class is easy online, I never studied for a test and my lowest grade was a 90. It's an easy A!

Prof.Smolenski is probably one of the best professors I've had at SFC hands down. He's very knowledgable in music theory and he plays various instruments. His online class is great, he emails fairly quickly. The only con is that there is alot of textbook usage along with the CDs as well. But its not that bad the chapters are usually short.

I loved this online class. It wasn't terribly time consuming and the textbook was great. The chapters were generally short and well organized. Keep up with your reading and put effort into your discussion posts- you will get an A. Tests and quizzes are taken directly from the book. I didn't use the study guide. Take Prof S if you enjoy music!

this was the easiest online course i have ever had..you need the textbook, short chapters and all of the angel quizes and exams come from material in book..it's sweet..he responds quickly to email, gives good time frames for posts, quizes and exams..super easy class..wish all of them were this do-able. Professor Smolenski was very kind and helpful. I was struggling in the end of the semester with the playing portion of the piano class and he helped me out a lot. He is very patient. I really liked him as a teacher. The class is very hard for a non music person though.I wouldn't really say it's for someone who has never read music before.

Online class. 2 quizzes a week and a test after 4 quizzes. Replies to emails with a quickness. I honestly didn't even read the chapter and got 100's on his quizzes (they are only 5 questions). Love this class! Went through the whole book.

This was the greatest online class ever. Really simple quizzes every other day, and the tests were easy on top of that. All you have to do is remember to take each and every quiz/test and it's an easy A! The concert paper was an easy A! I skipped a few quizzes so I fell to a B+ but I'm extremely happy about that. TAKE THIS CLASS W/ THIS PROFESSOR!

Extremely easy A. The layout for the online class is great. I highly recommend taking this class with this professor. He was extremely helpful and prompt.

This is the easiest online class I have ever taken. The course setup is really clear, and the quizzes and tests are really easy.

FANTASTIC PROFESSOR. I took the class online as an easy elective and wound up really enjoying it. You do about 3 quizzes per week and they're only 5 questions long SUPER easy and exams are a piece of cake as long as you pay attention to the quizzes. all in all a GREAT class.

This is the easiest class and professor EVER!! You do have a quiz every other day, but other than that a complete breeze! The exams are easy as well. He is very organized, explains everything he expects and actually responds to emails! Great professor, strongly reccomend!!

Very pleasant and easy instructor. Open book quizzes that are only 5 questions each. 800 word concert essay. Exams. Not a time consuming class. Learned a lot about music history and types of music. Interesting course.

Took this class online; If you do the same, get the PDF of the textbook. Vast majority of quiz and test questions were literally word for word out of the textbook, so a CTRL+F made them so quick and easy. Other part of class was discussion posts, which were another easy CTRL+F answer

I took both Music Appreciation and World Music with this professor. Both classes were very easy. If you have to take either class, I highly suggest taking it with him.

This was a very easy online class. There is one concert paper to write. I went to a concert on campus to do this. Read the chapters, take the quizzes/exams and you should get an "A".

I took this class for Summer B and it was super easy, this class was set up in an organized way you would have 2-3 quizzes a week and they were only 5 questions! Then you have 3 exams and a paper all of which you shouldn't get lower than a B unless you're trying to, anyway I highly recommend this teacher!

What an amazing teacher! He writes back to emails faster than any teacher ive had. He is eager to help every student learn and succeed and sets his class up so simply that its impossible to fail. There are multiple quizzes a week but they come in lieu of any homework. I love this teacher, hes amazing!

Prof Smolenksi is great. Takes a somewhat laid-back approach to online teaching, but in the best possible way. No discussions. Lots of EASY quizzes (that you barely need the book for) and a few exams. One paper. Got a B without even trying.

Pretty simple class, rented the book, read the short chapters which helped with quizzes and the exams. There is one paper for the class and you get to choose the composer. He does not accept late work so schedule yourself accordingly. I enjoyed this online class because his instructions were clear since day 1. Highly recommended.

Professor Smolenski was a great online instructor. The class was organized well, he responds to your emails in a timely manner. I highly reccommend him. Easy class, weekly quizes a few multi chapter exams and a masterwork paper due at the end of class.

He's a great teacher . Make sure you do good on your quizzes , I almost loss my A because I didn't do well on some of them.

This class was nice. You do not have to contact the professor often (at least I didn't have any reason to). He posts a very clear syllabusschedule. You just need to read the book. Two 5-question quizzes per week, 4 open book exams, no discussions. One 3-page MLA paper. The book was a little boring. A devoted student will pass with an A - easily!

This was an easy A as long as you keep up with the 2-3 quizzes each week. There are Exams after about every 5 chapters. No final only a Masterwork paper.

Smolenski is a great online professor. He makes sure his curriculum is clear so that you have no fears right from the beginning. The schedule is a bonus.... you always know if you're on track! Very simple course, just a lot of reading.

Great Class! Hard not to make an A! I love listening to music but I am in no way a music major. This class was awesome bc it goes into detail about each musical genre and how it became popular. Super easy, one composer paper, 4 Easy Exams and 12 short easy quizzes! If you need an easy, fun, interesting music class TAKE THIS CLASS!!!

The teacher was helpful if you asked for it, but not a lot of interaction otherwise. However, you don't really need it because he has everything laid out and organized very well. There is a lot of reading though, but its interesting. You read three chapters with quizzes, then an exam. Do that four times over, add one paper and you're done.

Scott Smolenski was an excellent online teacher. He got back to me right away every time I emailed him, and the tests were very straight forward. Not to mention the class was pretty interesting. Pretty good first online class.

This class is an easy A. He's a great professor but the lectures are boring.

Great class. Because it's online you have to watch deadlines. He puts out one 5 question quiz a chapter and a 50 question test about every 4-5 chapters. Quizzes you get 20 minutes for and tests 90 minutes. Easy A if you read the book. 1 paper at the end of course, 3 pages.

Awesome class! everything is pretty lined out for you. 5 question quizzes and the tests are timed but doable so don't worry too much. Always gives good feed back. You don't find many online professors like this. I took this along with three other core courses so it didn't weigh me down. Do the work & you'll receive an A :)

Easy A, take this class.

You will definitely need a textbook, however there is great information. ALL the quizzes are directly from textbook as well as exams. AND there's only one paper at the end of the course. I would make sure to write notes down, and have all exams typed up for the final exam. EASY A.

Easy going, make sure you take notes but if you can't make it to class make sure to read the textbook. two quizzes a week and he will provide a study sheet handout before the quiz to help you guys study. there is an oral presentation at the end of the year, but it is very easy. 100% would take again!

Class consists of a lot of 10 pt. quizzes and 5 big tests that take up a majority of your grade. Overall I thought it would be hard in the beginning but when I learned how to study better for this class it came much easier. He's a really nice guy who's very passionate about music and always is willing to help.

Took his class online. Its a very easy A class but there are 2-3 five questions quizzes every week, some due on Saturdays. His exams are basic 50 questions, all multiple choice. Decently easy, but you do need to read/skim over the chapters to make a good grade. There is a paper due at the end of the semester, pretty clear guidelines.

Took this class online for Summer B, mostly due to other RMP ratings. This is the EASIEST class I have ever taken. Read the chapters, and have your book with you when you do the quizzes and exams (all questions were multiple choice) and you'll do great. There is a research papers, but the guidelines he provides are very helpful.

i took his online class, learned a lot, read a lot! Super easy if you do all your homework and readings. All quizzes were directly from the book so if you read the chapters you will pass the quizzes, exams the same. 1 paper at the end of the semester. He is awesome, def recommend his online class!

Every day I show up to this class twice a week just to see him teach. His calm personality gives me the boost of serotonin I desperately need. Through his calm personality and quiet smile, he teaches the material with a quiet voice. The class is easy A, he gives answers to the tests when he reviews the study guide, and quizzes just pay attention

Scott is one of my favorite prof at SF! His class is so fun and interesting. His exams are pretty straight forward as long as you pay attention and take notes. You can really tell he loves what he's doing and always has a smile on his face. Final project is really fun to do. DEFINETLY TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU LOVE MUSIC AND THE WORLD!

Professor Scott is a great guy who cares about his students. As long as you get your work done, it is an overall pretty easy course. I needed this credit for an international requirement and it was very interesting. Would definitely recommend.

Lecture every class that were always around 40 minutes, two 5 question quizzes that are open for 30 minutes when you start them, I didn't use the textbook and did fine, tests with a study guide beforehand, a 1,000-word essay at the end of the semester. Professor Smolenski is very kind educated man, easy to talk to. Easy class overall!

Professor Smolenski by far is one of the most easiest (in a good way) prof you could take for music. Online powerpoints and easy quizzes and discussions. 1 final paper 3pgs long and then the final exam. There is ample time and resources provided for you to get the best possible grade. Honestly the easiest and least stressful class vie taken so far.

He is the sweetest professor. If you are into music you'll do fine but he does very long multiple choice exams. The final was an essay of a 1000 words.

Study the PowerPoints provided by this professor and it is impossible to fail. Take time to listen to the recommended listening, it will help you overall. He is a great professor and an easy grader, and I would 100% take another class with him.

Dr. S has to be by far the best professor out there. He understands life happens and if you run late to lecture he is more than willing to stay to help get you caught up wit what you missed. Communication outside the classroom is amazing too, he responds to emails.

Overall a great teacher. His online class is fairly easy as long as you keep up with his power points and articles. The modules are laid out nicely and well structured. He is also very understanding and accommodating to life circumstances. no need to buy/rent the book, as his power points/shared articles sum up the quizzes and discussion posts well

The class was easy; There were two quizzes and I think one discussion every week. Five exams but they all came with study guides. We had a final but it's literally all the exams combined. Quizzes 5 questions each. One paper to do : READ THE syllabus for deadlines and the paper was easy as well. NO Extra Credit, don't miss assignments, NO LATE WORK

Dr Smolenski has been the best teacher I've had so far. The materials are very understandable and well laid out through his PowerPoints. I would make sure you read the book and remember small details, as very minor details were asked about during the exams. The final research paper is 3 pages, but it's an easy A if you put in some effort.

Easy class with straightforward PowerPoints. His lectures and study guides helped a lot with preparing for the exams.

There's just presentations you go over and then take super easy quizzes around twice a week. About once a week you'll have a free-written response but only has to be like a paragraph per question. Overall super easy course

Smolenski was an easy A class, discussion posts every week with some quizzes, and tests every now and then. He would also give me extra points on discussions if I went into detail. 1 Essay about a Brazilian artists and style of dance.

His presentations are straightforward, and the study guides are so helpful for tests. Easy online quizzes once or twice a week. He's very understanding, and it's clear he loves teaching this course!

Professor Smolenski is probably the best professor and easiest class I've ever taken. The quizzes are simple and there aren't too many. He grades the discussions so lightly. If you at least try to answer all the questions he asks in them he'll give you a 100%. Final is also a free 100%. Me and two friends all got 100s on it.

I took this course online but it only consisted of small quizzes for each chapter, 3 exams, and one research paper. The quizzes and exams come straight from the powerpoint slides.

Took an accelerated version so might not be the standard experience, but class was basically: a dozen or so short quizzes (5ish questions so dont get too many wrong), few tests, & a meh final. Readings in between were light, just some power points. Not the best course for retainment, but overall an easy A with an easygoing teacher, can't complain
