very good teacher...knows his stuff and can come down to students' level to teach. also makes good add-ins about interesting math stuff. take any of his classes...
He always has time for a student who needs help and doesnt mind spending some extra time to help us understand something.
Nice Guy, Good teacher
good guy, he makes you focus. i enjoyed the class and did very well for a student who averages c's. cheers.
Great teacher overall if you have a chance to take him I highly recommend him.
Great teacher. very helpful. grades easy but won't let you get away free. TAKE HIS NIGHTCLASS!!!
the material was difficult for some to grasp, however, Scott (Jefferey) Sorrell is a good teacher. he offers LOTS of bonus opportunities to pull grades up! enjoyed the class!
Best math teacher that I have ever had! He makes sure everyone in the class understands the material. His tests are not overly hard either. I would highly recommend him to any student, no matter their math skills. Take him if you can! You will not regret it!!!
He goes by Scott Sorrell and he is a great teacher! He is very nice and understandable. Best math teacher that I have had so far. Take him if you can, no matter your math backgroud, I highly recommend it.
great teacher. HOT HOT HOT!!! very helpful and keeps it interesting. I strongly recommend him!!!
GOSH I LOVED this teacher...teaches math so you can actually understand what the heck is going on. Helps you out with bonus points - and doesn't give that much homework. Made class fun - although he likes to talk a lot about golf. I am hoping to have him again in Math 250
GREAT GREAT GREAT teacher. He is one of the bes teachers I have ever had. He helps you out so much. He gives you so many opportunities to get bonus points. We hardly had homework.
my best math teacher ever. he is so helpful and even though i go 5 days a week he keeps my attention because hes very funny (if u have a sense of humor). i love this guy. i wouldn't recommand anyone else. and i dont even like math!
He is cool you just have to pay attention. But please donothave your cell phone on because he will make you do pushups lol. Had fun in there though he is reall amazing.
Not easy, but BEST math teacher i've ever had. Actually made me understand calculus. not much hw, but it will only help you on the tests
By far the best math teacher i've had. Not easy, but explains math concepts the best way possible. If you go to class and listen you will do alright. Doesn't check homework but if you don't do it, you will screw yourself bc it is definately on the test
He's hilarious and makes math as interesting as possible. He's such a smart *ss...that's what makes him so funny!! Do your homework (although not mandatory) and go to class and you will do fine.
You want to know how awesome this instructor is? So awesome that I would rearrange my entire semester schedule to make sure I was in his class. I was fortunate by getting him and not knowing what to expect. Just don't let your cell phone go off, cause he takes that seriously. Loved watching him practice his golf swing with the yard stick haha.
AWESOME TEACHER.... i hate math, but with the right teacher it's not so bad.
i absolutely loved him! he made class interesting and fun. I would recommend him in a heartbeat. He doesn't give many extra point but he explains stuff so well. He tries to keep everyone on the same level and doesn't want to leave people behind. take him!
He was, without a doubt, the best Math teacher I have ever had. He explains things so well and makes it fun to learn Math. He is really smart and a smart ass too. What a great combination.
LOVED him ....i absolutely hate math and he has made it the easiest to understand...dumb in math...take Sorrell
Best math teacher ever! He means business and holds you accountable but, he is one of the best teachers I have ever had! He is very funny and makes class interresting. You will never lose interrest! He will not allow it!
amazing teacher!best math teacher ive ever had. very very nice always helpful and presents material in a way that is so easy to understand. overall very funny well rounded guy
Good, caring professor. He really wants you to learn and understand the material. Text book near useless. Does not curve. Little change for bonuses. Do the homework, attend class and study for the exams, you'll do well.
He really explains materials & really teaches. I wish they have more teachers like him. At least he teaches much more than he jokes. Most of his jokes are sexual appeal, which disgust me. He is very nice, considerate, & informative. Most importantly, he really teaches. He mostly completes his role of being a teacher. Highly recommend him to you.
He is the best!
Scottie is a great teacher. He is probably the best math professor that I have ever had. Very helpful and will break down an idea in simplier forms if you don't understand. We did not use our CalcII book much, everything he wants you to know will be written on the board. He is a great teacher...take him if you have a chance!
Dear god, the man rocked! take him go go go
best ,,, awesome ... great.....the way he teaches it really easy to understand . read his notes .. do wileyplus homework...
Mr. Sorrell is by for the most competent professor I have ever had. He takes his time to teach each topic, making sure everyone understands fully. He is always willing to help you after class. The test are so easy if you pay attention in class.Talk about golf to get him in a good mood! TAKE HIM FRESHMEN!
Scottie is a great teacher. Just dont let your cell phone go off. Dont even let it vibrate. He hates it and will be extremely upset. Dont try to put info in your calc to cheat. He will catch you and destroy your life! Test are not easy but he will take time to teach anyone. I usually hate math and his class made me decide to get a math minor.
Math is defiantly not my strong suit but this teacher is great. Helped the class with every question we had and hardly ever assigned homework!
I'd rank him one of the best teacher I've had. If you want to understand calculus take Sorrell.
took him for 270 and 301...i was definitely lucky to get him both times. hands down, best math professor. calculus is never easy, but he makes it as easy as possible. loves to talk politics. likes to hear other opinions, but it it is best not argue with him..haha. will bend over backwards to help you.
If you take good notes in his class then Reread & Rework his examples and be able to do the work sheets. which he gives for test 2-4 you will do well!!!(that simple) Very Helpful!!!!! Calculus period is hard but he puts it in a manor that's very understandable.
ok, really Calc 1. becareful, this man loves to teach Calc 2 in a Calc 1 class. good teacher, but his teaching method sucks like no tomorrow...
Mr Sorrell is an amazing teacher who cares about his students. He will go out of his way to help his students understand the material. Go to class, do homework and review notes and you will do very well with him. He didn't really use the book, just Wiley Plus. Oh, and Turn off your cell phone. Seriously.
I love math but have a really hard time with calc and not to mention it was my first math class in about 4 yrs. He seemed intimidating at first, but was very approachable and down to earth, taught in plain english and makes the impossible doable by the average joe, great for those that are confident in their math or just getting by
Scottie is awesome. He is always high enegry and will keep your attention. He uses material that isn't in the textbook but that's good because the information he uses does a much better job explainning the subject than the book does.
Great calc 2 teacher. His tests have one problem from every different piece of material covered in class. Study everything he writes on the board and you'll do fine. Drops lowest test and replaces with final exam grade. Funny guy, class is enjoyable and he doesn't use the book, just wileyplus.
By far the best teacher I have ever had and I'm not even a math/engineering major. He is always energetic and has an infectious personality that makes you want to learn more. Very very smart with a combination of smart ass which gives an interesting teaching style. Inspires you by showing real world applications and will help you till you get it.
Sorrell is the BEST!! Plus, he is HOT!! Highly recommend!
this is the best math teacher at UL for sure hands down.
He is by far one of the best mathematics teachers on campus; down to earth and easy going. He relates his teachings to so many things and makes math enjoyable. If you need any brownie points, just start talking about sports, especially golf, and you'll be fine! We never cracked open a book, but it did come in handy when studying for the final. Do W
Probably one of the best math teachers at UL. Try and get this guy if you can.
Mr. Sorrel is a great teacher. He has a great sense of humor and tries to make the class as interesting as possible. Although I struggled in the class, I'd suggest taking him. If you are a golf fan, I'd suggest wearing golf apparel and he'll love you for it. He drops the lowest test score and his tests are consistent with the material taught.
Great teacher. Breaks down material very well. Writes a lot of notes so attendance is encouraged. Drops the lowest grade. You can tell that he Cares about his students and wait he is teaching. He even hosted a Sunday study hour for his final in Sp'11. Awesome teacher.
Awesome teacher. He will help you out until you fully understand the topic. Such a fun teacher, but has very strict rules about phones and being negative, so make sure your phones off and your happy in class. Other than that, if you have to take 270 take him! If you do the homework and study everything, you'll pass without a doubt.
Very clear instruction. Great enthusiasm. Grades fairly. Can go a bit fast and requires you to visit office hours since most class time is spent covering new material, but does offer in-class review sessions before tests and another one for the final. Never used book. Test questions mostly very similar to HW. The best in the dept.
Great teacher!!! Makes difficult things look simple!!! Willing to help if u do not understand!
Great
awesome professor. thorough and in depth in all explanations and answers.
the best
Amazing person. Real funny. Keeps everything interesting. Always willing to help. Grades really easy.
Calculus II with Scottie was awesome! If you are taking a class with him because you think he will be easy then you are SURELY MISTAKEN! He WILL test you to your limits because he wants you to LEARN the material. He doesn't use the book (a good and a bad thing) and teaches EXACTLY what you need to know. I hope to have him for Calculus III.
one of the professors students like at UL. enthusiastic about material though can speed through things. you will need to go to office hrs if you don't understand since lecture is mostly for new material. tests are very similar to HW. very nice guy.
Sorrell is the best math instructor I have ever had at U.L., hands down.....and I've had a few. Explains things in a clear way, open to any and all questions.
He is like the best teacher in the world.. I hate my new math teacher, he sucks... wish I had sorrell again! He actually takes an interest
Great teacher! Very funny and made the material interesting. Very helpful
One of the best instructors I've ever had. Math is generally an easy subject for, I used to make easy A's without studying in high school. Pre-calculus and I, however, didn't quite hit it off so well. But this guy made it easy; I mean thanks to him I actually UNDERSTAND how the Unit Circle works. Plus he's HILARIOUS. DEFINITELY TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN!
Best math professor on campus. If you can make it through his class you'll now your math. Test are challenging. 1/4 won't pass the class but it's more due to the material than him.
One of the best math teachers I have ever had - truly! He knows his math for sure and you cannot get any clearer than what he teaches. Test are super easy if you know theroems and formulas. dont know how people cannot get an A. also very funny during class
He is one of the best teachers I've ever had. He knows what he is doing, speaks clearly and in a way that is easy to understand, cares about his students and their grades, and can make a hard class fun. He knows his students, past and present, by name. His tests are a challenge, but he does a great job preparing you for it. I Highly recommend him!
Great teacher, explained material very well.
I struggled in algebra in high school, but Sorrel was so extremely clear on the material and his expectations that I managed to get an A on the final. Study everyday if math isn't your thing. He gives a lot of examples in the notes that are very similar to test questions. Look over them! Does not use the textbook. He's an excellent professor!
The best math professor at ul. Made math very clear and makes sure that majority of the class understands the concepts. Go to class everyday and ask for help and you should to good.
He's a phenomenal teacher. He understands the material very well and does a great job of passing it on. He's open to questions and really helpful. Class isn't mandatory but you'd do well to attend if you want to pass. He also has a great sense of humor.
Scotty is a beast. Made the material easy to understand, gives homework on what he teaches, and tests only on what he taught. Highly recommend him for any math class.
Best math teacher on campus! In the first week of class, he tells you how to be successful. He is very helpful during office hours and really explains the material. Calc II is difficult, but he makes is easy!
Sorrell is the best math professor at UL. He teaches the material in a way that you will not forget. Just a great all around prof.
I absolutely love him. Although I suck at math, I think I'll pass with such a helpful professor.
Sorrell was tough at first with all of his rules, but as we all watched him lecture, we could really learn in the classroom. His tests came from his lecture notes and homework assignments, and at the end of the semester, I realized that he has very high standards, and wants you to learn, and he explains the ideas very well. Reccommend!
Dr. Sorrell is pretty cool, and this particular course was quite fast paced. He has a lot of rules and may seem intimidating at first, but he's really funny and helpful. Don't be afraid to ask for help! He's awesome about it. However, his tests are hard and he grades pretty tough. Also do your redbooks, they are bonus points. And do your ALEKS!
All around great professor, funny guy and teaches lectures in a way that is easy to understand. If you can, take this guy over any math prof.
Sorrell is awesome!! I would highly recommend anyone to take him for whatever math class. His tests are somewhat tough, but you will definitely know the material at the end of the semester. Oh yeah, do not curse in class or he will make you write lines and then hang them in his office. Expect to do push ups if your phone goes off in class.
Wonderful professor. Took for Math 143 and gave the best notes for a math class. Some people found him tough if you did not go to class. In the beginning of the semester, when outlining the rules, he seems strict, but is actually quite a funny guy. Makes sure class stays on schedule and if you review your notes before the test you will do great.
Mr Sorrell is an incredible professor. He knows his way around math like you wouldn't believe and presents it in a way that is easy to understand and learn. The class was difficult, don't expect an A without putting in some hard work. As long as you take notes and do the assigned homework problems you will do well.
Mr. Sorrell is easily the best professor I have ever had in my entire life. He makes calculus easy to understand and does his best to keep students awake and attentive. He is hilarious and makes math fun. Do yourself a favor and try your best to schedule him. Math is difficult, so you have to put in the work, but he makes math seem easier.
Sorrell is the best math professor that I've ever had the pleasure of taking. He teaches in a way that you can understand easily. Even if you don't get something, he doesn't make you feel stupid for asking questions, and he's always available to help clarify something. He's probably one of the best math professors at UL.
Sorrel is the BEST math professor at UL !! He is super nice and funny and cares about his students. He really will go the extra mile to help you pass ! TAKE HIM !
Sorrel is a great professor and really cares about his students. He made calculus easy to understand, and his lectures were great! I went to some tutoring offered by the learning center when I couldn't figure out some homework problems and that was super helpful too. You really have to put in the work to get an A in this class but you can do it!
I was able to have Sorrell for Calc 2 and I'm currently taking him for calc3. He is a fantastic teacher at UL. The best math teacher hands down. He makes his lectures easy to understand and connects with his students very well. Its best to do all the homework and take good notes because he will not trick you on his tests. His tests are based off hw
took him at 8am and loved starting my day in his class. On top of being one of the funniest people, he's a great teacher and truly does care about his students. He made me look forward to going to calc 2.
Great professor. Took him for Calc 3 & am currently taking him for DE. I would highly suggest taking him for anything. He doesn't everything he can to help students pass. Tests are based off of material from lectures and HW. Do what he says and study and you will pass with an A or B. If you get a C in his class, it's your fault. Highly recommended!
Hands down one of the best math teachers at UL. Calc 2 is a difficult class, but he does a great job at teaching you the material in a way you can understand. His tests are straightforward if you follow his notes and know how to do the homework problems. Definitely take him if you can.
Great teacher. His office hours are very helpful and he is always trying to help his students. Great guy as well. Likes to joke around in class but does like to move fast with material.
He is the BEST math teacher I've had in my entire life! He's funny, smart, witty, gives every type of example imaginable, easy to understand, and most importantly he cares about his students. He really wants everyone to succeed even and doesn't try to fail you even though he knows he's the good professor. Take him at all costs!
Great teacher, gives amazing lectures, and properly reviews for the next test. Cannot go wrong with choosing him.
Course was taught well and copious examples were given throughout the course. Instructor is easy to get along with and is a funny guy. Exams typically consist of similar problems from lecture. Sample test booklet questions are useful and are even used for extra credit. Fun class overall and I hope to take this instructor for higher math courses.
The way he teaches is very fast so you have to keep up. Always study ahead of him so you can understand. The test was okay and the homework will save your grade!
Read this last comment, so I wanted to say some words, since I was in that same class. Yeah we went fast because it was 2 days per week, but Mr. Sorrell told us that when we signed up for that class it was going to be fast-paced. I liked the way he taught everyone how to do the mathematics, and I really hope to have him as my teacher again soon.
Amazing at teaching difficult mathematical concepts. Sorrell has a natural gift for teaching and explaining. It's so good in fact, it makes up for the fact that he can be incredibly standoffish. He definitely belittles his students, particularly kids he doesn't like, Just don't ask any dumb questions and he won't single you out.
Took him for Calculus II and have to say that he's by far the best Math teacher I've ever had. Very fast paced, but can help you out a lot more if you go to his office hours. Do everything he assigns, even if you don't have to turn it in! He uses any material as fair game for tests.
By far the best teacher I've ever had. Class is taught in a fast paced manner but he is easy to get to outside of class. He seems standoffish at first, but do not mistake that for disdain. He does it in a loving manner, and as long as you show sincere effort in his class he will do all he can to help. Not to mention he's hilarious
One of the best teachers i've ever had. I don't know how he does it, but as long as you go to the lectures, you'll learn the tough material. He explains things fantastically, is hilarious, and fair. He is one of the reasons that i fell in love with math. I can't say enough good things about him as a teacher.
Easily would say Kevin Zito and Sorrel are the best in the department. He has a knack for teaching calculus, he admittedly said it would be hard but as long as we follow him then you WILL pass. To give an idea of his workload, I've gone through about 5pages in my notebook per day and I write small. Hilariously in class and engaging. Would takeagain
Had him for both Calc 2 and 3. Hes the best professor Ive taken at the university by far. His class is easy, but you need to study and do homework. His stories and tangents are great. If you want to get him riled up, say that you love Monsanto.
Easily one of my favorite professors. I took him last semester and he still welcomes me into his office if I ever need help with my other classes. He connects with each student and if you skip class he will ask you why you werent in class when you return. His class is very passable but be prepared to take 3-4 pages of notes per class.
Mr. Sorrell is a great professor. Had him for MATH 301 and made sure to get him again. Lectures and notes are to the point with lecture examples somewhat similar to the types of problems assigned for homework. Homework counts as a test grade, and he is more than happy to help during office hours. Practicing with old exams is best study method.
Mr. Sorrell is respected as one of the best math professors at the university and I see why after taking his Calc3 class. He is a very genuine, and involved professor that wants to walk you every step of the way in learning a new step of math. Truly wants you to learn and cares about your well being. Couldn't say enough good about Mr. Sorrell!
I heard he was the best teacher ever, well definitely not online. He posts PDFs of his notes and then he uploads a video of him reading the PDF. Reading math is not how one learns math. Maybe before COVID he was a better professor, but I would not take him if the class is online unless you are a genius.
If anyone says Dr. Sorrell is a bad teacher they are flat out lying!! Hands down the best math teacher I have had in my life. He taught us via posted videos of his notes and went over exactly what you needed to know for the tests and was great at it! He explains problems very well and his tests are straight from his lecture notes and hw problems!
I took calculus I in high school and I got an A the entire year. I took this class for calculus II knowing it would be challenging but easy if I put my mind to it. This class was the hardest class I have ever taken and it is solely because of the online aspect. He's a very nice guy but is just bad with online teaching. No zoom meetings only PDF's.
I absolutely loved Dr. Sorrell! I've never been a whiz at math, but he definitely makes the material approachable with all the avenues students can take to study. I do suggest attending his classes even if they're not mandatory due to COVID. You will guarantee pass his class if you put the effort into learning his material :)
He made sure you knew what you were learning
Mr. Sorrell was a great professor. I had him for two semesters and am glad I did. He explains material very well and his tests are straight forward. A big factor for why I made a C, was because of Homework. But other than that, I would recommend him to anyone. Side note: I was a bit of a class clown too lol
This was my second time taking Calc and I can say a good teacher makes a world of difference. He actually cared about his students learning and was easily assessable outside of class. Anytime I had trouble just ask during office hours. Would definitely recommend him as a teacher to anyone nervous about taking Calc at any level.
Mr. Sorrell is the best. I took him for Calc II and III and it was during Corona. He made it as manageable as he could with the new system by providing PDF notes and annotation over those notes. Not only that, but he has helped me personally even after I left his class. He cares about his students which is very rare with college professors. 10/10
By far my favorite math teacher. I only took him for Calc 3, but I wish I had him for 1 and 2. He explains everything really well and straightforward. Don't listen to the rude, negative comments. The only way you could fail his class is if you don't even try. Just do the work and show that you're making an effort. May the force be with y'all.
Mr. Sorrell was one of the most fantastic math teachers you could get. Though his grading scale is a bit tough, passing the class isn't difficult as long as you participate in class. A lot of the exams were largely covered in the materials either in class or in the homework, so we were always well prepared for the exams.
One of the best math professors I have had. Anyone saying negative things about this man either did not apply themselves, or did not attend the class.
If you see Mr. Sorrell teaching a course you have to take when registering for classes, you should absolutely put that class on your schedule. Come to class, pay attention, study his examples, watch his online lectures, and you'll do great. The HW helps too, but the in-class examples are what you should focus on. Best math professor I've ever had.
Great professor, definitely get old exams and you will do great! The material is difficult, but Sorrell is very helpful. Classes are quick but his notes help out a lot.
Great professor, makes math pretty easy if you put in the work. Definitely take Sorrell.
Professor Sorrell is an amazing professor. I withdrew from the class because I was struggling in other classes so I had to take some attention away from calc two.Hint: Never take attention away from calc two!no matter how good the professor is, you still have to learn and apply the material but overall he was an amazing professor. would take again.
AMAZING professor for calc one!! if you are in between sorrell and someone else for calc one, TAKE SORRELL!! this professor really brought out the better in me and has helped me so much in math it is unreal! this professor is awesome for anyone taking calc one.
By far the best math professor at UL. Make sure to attend class and go to his office hours if you are struggling. He is very accommodating and just a great dude overall.
He's great. I struggled with the material itself but i could have done better if i dedicated more time to it. He is very willing to help outside of class, GO TO OFFICE HOURS! hes funny and knows what hes doing. would recommend. no phones in class, he makes jokes with students. gives partial credit on tests. good teacher!
I loved Mr. Sorrell! His lectures are clear and straight to the point, and he emphasizes what you need to know and understand for his tests. Don't miss his lectures though because you will fall behind and always do the homework because he makes his tests from the notes and mathlab questions.
Mr. Sorrell is a great professor!! He taught the material very well and in-depth in a way for you to understand it rather than in a complex way Mathlab would you. Calc II is a very tough course, but Sorrell teaches it well. You will fall behind if you miss class, but he is very accessible and always emails back. Definitely recommend!!!
He is a great guy, in my opinion the best teacher I've ever had. He teaches the material in a way where it is really easy to understand. Do the homework and you'll be fine.
This is my third time having Mr. Sorrell for math, and he is absolutely the best math professor at UL, especially for DE! He is very thorough with the material and teaches exactly what you need to know and shows all of the possible scenarios you'll face. Don't miss his lectures though because it is very easy to fall behind!
Sorrell is a solid professor who explains material clearly. Calc II is tough, but attending class and using resources like Unstuck study can really help. Withdraw if needed, but would recommend taking this class.
Mr. Sorrell is awesome but id take Dr. Ross if you can. Mr. Sorrell is extremely lecture heavy which makes it hard to review if you took bad notes or missed something during the lecture since there's not material other than what's written on the board. The honors assignments were not horrible but they were not easy either.
He was my first math professor at UL and did not disappoint. He was always willing to help when needed during office hours and answered emails quickly. You could have 5 unexcused absences before your letter grade dropped. He was attentive and related the class to physics and other concepts.
Mr. Sorrell is probably the best professor in the math department. He teaches exactly what you need to know and the homework only expands from that to help you. He's very accessible in office hours and always responds to emails. Calc 3 is tough but Mr. Sorrell teaches it very very well.
Mr. Sorrell is hands down one of the best math professors. He keeps the class engaging, explains things in a way that actually makes sense and adds humor that makes lectures fun. He's easy to follow, always open to questions, and makes a tough subject feel way less stressful. You'll actually enjoy going to class with him and understand the material
Take him if possible
He's a god. A mythical mathematical legend. His greatest weapon is presenting information in a way that makes sense.
Mr. Sorrell is an amazing teacher and is incredible at explaining things. He will sometimes give bonus point opportunities on tests. When he says to learn something for a test but kind of just hints at it, it usually means it will be a bonus question. Overall amazing teacher and amazing person.
Sorrell was one of the greatest professors I have ever had. He makes Calc 3 digestible and easy to understand. My only complaint is that he goes a little fast, but if you ask questions, he will explain it. Overall 5/5 Prof
Great professor! Attendance is mandatory, expectations are clear and upheld. Lectures are very structured and organized, and homework reflects the lessons well! Tests are straightforward, it will be just like class and homework material. Definitely would recommend and take again!
Such a great professor who will give you great calculus lectures. Don't use phones in class, put the best foot forward, and calculus will be your friend. Attend class at all costs.
