Professor Suarez is a brilliant teacher. He definitely makes his lectures enjoyable and easy to understand. He is always accessible outside of class and really does care about his students grades. With saying that be prepared to study extremely hard for his exams and if you miss too many classes, you will without a doubt not pass.

Professor Suarez is a sublime educator. He cares about his students and is always available for his students. With that in mind he also wants his students to learn, and cares about your grade. So his exams are challenging because, you have to put in the effort to learn the content. If you do not put in the effort you will not pass.

Great teacher, tons of schoolboy humor but also wants his students to take the class very seriously. He is very educated and can talk anthropology for hours. However I felt like his tests are hard but sometimes unnecessary.

Best class I took ever. Professor Suarez is THE best lecturer. Success tip for doing awesome on exams that most definitely worked for me: take lecture notes on notecards the way you'd normally use notecards to study, so you won't have to write them a second time from regular notes. You won't need a textbook as he posts awesome course content on Bb.

Professor Suarez is probably the best Professor I've ever had. His class is incredibly interesting since he is an expert in this field. Also, he is really funny and makes the class fascinating. However, get ready to study hard, his class is also the hardest class I've taken so far. After all, it was still worth it.

3pg essay. No dropped tests. No curves. Tests are based on lectures, so take notes in class like a mad man. He's funny, and passionate about the subject. Reading the book helps, but not necessary if you take good notes. A LOT of memorization. Expect 600+ flashcards. I'm a creationist, and I got straight A's. You can too.

Professor Suarez is very passionate about anthropology which made his classes very interesting. If you do not show up to class, you will not pass. His tests are based off his lectures and his power points. Making flash cards was the easiest way to memorize all the information. If you are looking for an easy A or hate studying, do not take.

Probably one of the hardest classes I've taken and it wasn't even for my major. He's very passionate about what he teaches & he's funny and approachable but if you're looking to take him just for credit, stay away. You have to put in A LOT of work for this class. No HW but the exams were difficult. If you do take him... don't say I didn't warn you.

Took this class to fulfill a lab credit. The professor is very helpful, thorough, and a lot of fun to learn from. I took his summer class and all of his exams were open-book and open-notes so the exams were relatively easy to pass. Make sure to show up for labs and do the reading before class.

An amazing professor! Truly loved attending this class! Yes the material can be difficult, but it is up to you what you take from it! The lectures are heavy but fun. I'm a USD student who took anth over intercession to transfer credit. I can't explain how much I enjoyed the class. The subject matter was so interesting and while 3 hr lectures everyday can be a lot Dr. Suarez keeps it light and is always joking around. You definitely have to study but if you do you'll be fine. I wish I could take him again!!

The lab is super chill and very DIY so you need to be self motivated. He explains things in a way that makes them easy to understand and has a lot of cool stories from his field work with primates. Tests are open book and open notes, but it's on you to collect the information you'll need to do well on the test. Take his class. It's a good one.

Interesting lectures with lots of classroom discussion. Tests are open book/open note. BUT, come to class! A lot of the questions come directly from lecture and lab, not the book. So, you def have to do the legwork. Take lots of notes, it pays off on test days! Very accessible and happy to help you succeed. Take this class, you wont regret it!

Professor Suarez is awesome. His anthropology class is probably the best class I've taken so far, BUT that's not to say it was easy. You will definitely have to study(welcome to college) but he is a fair grader, exams will be mostly in lectures, and there is extra credit on just about all of them. His lectures are always interesting and funny.

Dr. Suarez is the best professor I've had; he will work with you. He is extremely passionate about Anthropology, and it shows in his lectures. His exams are difficult, but if you study the study guide, you are more than fine. TAKE HIM! (unless you're not willing to study- then its really your loss) I switched my major to anthro after his classes.

I took him for physical anthropology, both the lecture and the lab (2 different classes) He is one of my favorite professors, funny, understanding, no surprises or tricks. Just do your best to show up, take notes, study, and the class will be fairly easy for you. There is 1 research paper in the lecture course that you shouldn't procrastinate on.

Dr. Suarez is amazing! He is so knowledgeable and his lectures are great. He is not boring! I was always engaged and paying attention to what he was saying because he made the material interesting. It is a lot of material, but it is all relevant. Study and you will do well on tests. You can tell he is truly passionate about what he does. The best!

Physical anthropology can be challenging, but as long as you utilize the study guide he provides and take decent notes during lecture, you will get an A. Thanks to his humor and passion he make lectures easy to listen to and he cares immensely about his students. You won't regret taking him.

One of the best classes I've ever taken. Dr. Suarez's teaching is fun and engaging and he cares for your success. It might be a bit difficult for those who haven't taken bio or who don't actively want to learn outside of class (remembering the latin names and meanings). Overall amazing class. I took the lab afterward just to be in his class again.

Super funny and cool professor but this class is extremely hard. Do not take it just to fill a GE requirement, it is not treated like a 100 level class. The tests are INSANE.

This was the hardest college class I've ever taken. I took him for intersession which might have been a mistake. There was just so much material that needed to be covered, and I was completely overwhelmed. If you've already taken a biology class, then you'll be set. I didn't. Other than that, his lectures were so cool and very interesting.

Truly the hardest college course I've taken so far, but far away from the worst. You have 4 exams and 1 paper to write +some weekly homework(easy 10%). If you manage time well and study outside of class, you'll pass. Prof. Suarez is reassuring and good w/ office hours. Funny and passionate. Long lectures. Don't skip unless you KNOW you have backup.

Scott is knowledgeable about the large primate family, which is a primary focus in this class. You will work for your grade however if you are a good student and sit in "front of the class" you can pass. Lots of funny puns and if you need a lab he has a great one too, save your notes because he lets you use em on the lab exams too. Great class!!!!!

Very awesome professor! My grade came from a lack of focus in his class while I focused on others. Clear grading criteria. Adequate time for the research paper. Interesting lectures with some participation time. Many jokes to keep you focused and avoid having a dry class. Do not take solely as a "GE" because it is beyond just the "oh lvl 100 crs"

He provides a study guide, use this during lectures & take detailed notes, literally most if not all answers to test questions are given in lectures. An absolute gem. This class requieres you to study a lot and to attend to all of his lectures. Prof Suarez did an amazing job doing the online transition. Lectures can be heavy, but he is funny so you will never really get bored. I recommend studying a lot for the test.

Prof. Suarez is an amazing teacher. His lectures are easy to follow and he makes them lively and fun. His tests are difficult- if you don't study and memorize the details from species to evolutionary terms, you won't do well. DO THE STUDY GUIDES. THEY WILL HELP SO MUCH. And he makes himself available for students in case they have any questions.

Class isn't that difficult if you attend or do the labs. This is integral to the class and understanding the material. He is upfront about that from the beginning of the class. It is also in the syllabus. Also, always ask questions. He will answer them. He helped me a lot. Think of this class as the lab component to anth 102. Workload fits with it.

Great professor! Tests are a bit hard but study and show up to class and you will do fine. The nice thing is your grade isn't just based on tests there are reports/projects. He transitioned online seamlessly despite the occasional tech issues class online was just as good and interactive as in person.

Professor Suarez is woke. All jokes aside, he is a very reasonable grader. Must go to lectures, take notes every day, and start your projects early!! He is very funny and treats students like actual people!! Tests are not so bad, he makes a study guide for the test which you can use.

Lectures are funny and entertaining if you pay attention. Not a lot of work through the year but grade is dependent on tests. Open notes for hybrid course which is a bonus. Fairly easy final project requirements. Class is recorded so you can watch the lectures.

Suarez is really easy. There's a skill check every week but you get unlimited chances to get an A. There are 4 exams in total but he gives you a study guide with all the questions and answers for every question. Lectures aren't mandatory but you can actually learn some interesting stuff if you go but you don't need to attend to ace the class.

Lab bio anth is only 1 credit so I feel like it shouldn't be that hard but it was harder than expected. He has tutoring sessions before exams and if you show up and take notes, you'll get 100% on all the exams because he gives you all the questions and answers. There's a lab work-book but you don't really need it to ace the class.

Took this class for GE thinking it would be an easy credit. It wasn't by any means, but when revisiting every class I've taken at Mesa it's definitely the one I've enjoyed most. I even thought about switching to anthro, because I looked forward to his lectures that much each week. Would recommend to anyone who has the time to study for it.

Probably the most enjoyable experience ive ever had within school. Hes very passionate about what hes teaching and he really wants you to learn. Not only that, but hell draw very useful images to assist with the lecture and really make you understand the course work. The first test is hard, second is easy, and the third is also hard. 10/10 professr

Funny professor, truly made a 3-hour lab class enjoyable instead of dreadful. Treats you like an adult but is willing to help. Very established and knowledgeable in his field, the only complaint is he is very knowledgeable it felt intimidating at times to keep asking for clarity... but he is happy to give it.

While attendance wasnt mandatory in this class and there was no homework, it was still important to attend class. Your entire grade is made up of four tests and a final project (which was fun). Hes really nice and understanding, and he does his best to make lectures interesting, since the class is so lecture heavy.

Took Dr. Suarez's class in person and really enjoyed it! His lectures are super entertaining and he is a great teacher. He really cares about his students and tries his very best to set you up for success. The lectures follow a study guide that I used to study for the tests. Not necessarily an easy A but you will learn a lot!

I took this class as a GE and I absolutely loved it. Dad jokes through the roof. It's pretty dry humor but good humor. Very test heavy but no random useless assignments in-between. He is very good at what he does. I learned very much in his class. definitely left his class feeling smarter. Study for the test/go to tutoring and you'll be fine.

I love this professor. Makes Anthropology so fun! This is a lab class though, so if you don't attend you will miss out. He is very funny, I don't think I can fall asleep in this class even if I tried. He is also very approachable and understanding, which I appreciate. I have taken him twice now and honestly would take more classes with him if it was my major. He is very knowledgeable, funny and helpful. His class is pretty enjoyable. It is a bit test heavy but there is no homework. Very straight forward class. You will learn in his class. Very much recommend. You wont be disappointed.

IF YOU ARE AN ANTHROPOLOGY MAJOR YOU WANT TO TAKE HIS CLASS. I was very nervous after looking at the rate my professor grade and comments, but I quickly learned that I was not going to have a negative experience in this class & it ended up being one of my favorite classes. As long as you show up and do the work, you will be FINE.

Structure of the class relies on 3 exams, 1 final, final project, and a reflection paper based on the project. Would not recommend for an easy GE. It's a lot of material to memorize- highly recommend going to tutoring, their study guide is OP. If y'all are good at memorizing info. and are willing to put in time to do that- you'll be fine.

Students definitely misunderstood/took his jokes out of context and were offended, but who cares? The professor is very passionate about Anth. His jokes are hilarious and makes things easy to understand key things that'll be on the test. Go to lectures or you'll have a hard time. Not an easy "B". Very caring, understanding, accommodating.

incredibly engaging lectures, class revolves around preparing for tests. The tests are killer though, very challenging material but prof. prepares you well. USE THE STUDY GUIDE, IT'S GOT LIKE ALL OF THE TEST QUESTIONS. And take detailed notes, prof will go on what seems like a tangent but ends up being the lesson.

He got me so interested in biological anthropology and primatology. I transferred to a 4 year after taking a few of his classes but I will definitely miss having him as a professor. His lectures are extremely interesting and he has a very skilled way of breaking things down to an understandable level.

Based on the ratings I saw, I was a little nervous before I started the course. After two weeks, I realized that this would be the best class I had ever taken. Dr. S altered my perspective on education. He is continuously trying to improve both you and your work, and he treats you like a friend. I genuinely miss this class so much.

Although his jokes are not for everyone (especially if you are sensitive) I thought it made this class much more entertaining and bearable. The actual course (ANTH 104 Intersession) requires significant engagement and effort, but Dr. Suarez will get you there!

This class is very lecture heavy with a lot of information. But, Prof. Suarez is aware of this and makes the lectures as entertaining as he can. He not only gives you information but also gives you strategies to remember it. He is very knowledgeable on the subjects and can answer any questions you ask him. Take him for ANTH 104 (The lab class) too.

Great professor and would 100% take him again. Super funny and always entertaining. There are “skill checks” but you can do them whenever and there's a final project of your choice but that's it for assignments. Grades are pretty much determined by exam scores, which have a lot of specific lecture info. Tests are easy if you listen/take good notes.

While his classes are lecture heavy, and attendance is MANDATORY (you won't pass if you skip lectures). His teaching is engaging and his assignments are not all that bad once you start to do them. If you are confused, his office hours are amazing, and he provides great help to students. Amazing professor, highly reccomend.

Suarez excels at making information salient through jokes and analogies. I thoroughly enjoyed all his entertaining and engaging lectures. Really appreciate that he updates his slides with recent findings, staying up to date with the literature. One of the best professors I've ever had. Professor Suarez is one the best professors I've ever had at Mesa. He makes class so interesting and incorporates many of his personal experiences for class and the lectures. The assignments are super easy and can be done in class, projects are the only things done outside of class. 10/10. I'm taking his ANTH130 course this semester too.

His study guides are very helpful and basically identical to his tests. Tests are not open note though, so have good note taking skills for his lectures. Highly recommend this class!

He's a very funny lecturer and maintained a solid pace despite being over the four week intersession! The three tests (MC and Written) were no cake walk (no cheat sheets or flashcards here-get ready to memorize), but were doable. The final was really nice because 75% of it was questions from the previous tests, which are passed back to you.

Dr.Suarez is a very passionate professor on the material of the class. The problem, your grade is heavily based in 3 exams (45%),1 final exam(20%) and 1 final project (20%), no extra credit and no drop lowest score.I would recommend this class only for anthropology majors.If this is your only option, use the canvas skill checks and the class tutor.

Honestly, for those who wants to take an easy science class for filling out your general classes, this professor is the way to go because he can make every lecture interesting and hilarious to think about outside of class. Even if the topic is boring, he somehow makes the lecture fun and engaging to learn from him. Overall, a very good professor!

I took the lab and lecture, and it was super fun. You can tell that Dr. Suarez has a passion for anthropology, and his lectures are super fun. He mixes in some stories that fit perfectly. TESTS will catch you off guard, trust me, be prepared to study. One final project, but you have a full semester to figure that out. Would recommend.

Knows his stuff, fun guy to listen to. Accelerated format was a little rough over the summer, but nothing that a few hours of studying beforehand couldn't fix. The ratio of information given vs what you needed to do well on the test is a little skewed, you can kinda guess through a lot of the questions and be mostly fine.

Took this class over summer, he covers a lot of material in his lectures and will answer any questions u may have. Your grade will rely on exams which covers everything in lectures. If you're trying to pick this class bc it's and “easy” GE requirement vs another science… it's not.

He is pretty helpful and hands one with the labs. As long as you stay engaged, there's no reason to fall behind for his Lab. He's committed to making sure you understand the lab so really it's easy to keep up

This is the best professor I've had in my entire college career. His lectures are entertaining, He makes funny jokes, is very logical and understanding. Attendance isn't mandatory but I recommend you attend and pay attention to the lectures so you can pass the test. Make friends and discuss what happened and you'll have a good experience.
