I'm too BASHFUL to say my name, but I'm HAPPY I had Dr. Sykes for Calculus! He was an awesome teacher and made me decide to be a math major. Take any of his courses if you get the chance--you'll be glad you did!

The information is extremely difficult, but Dr. Sykes will help you during office hours as much as he can. I would definitely recommend him.

Very straightforward in his teaching method--easy to grasp the concept. He collects homework, which keeps me doing it, and in turn helps me know to material. People who aren't adept in math can score an A here.

Good proffessor. Talks like yogi bear, which is funny. He is very helpful and explains things well. The only thing is, the subject is hard, and sometimes his tests have harder material on them than what he teaches in class. But overall an EXCELLENT choice for math.

He has a funny voice but he has a good sence of humor. His teaching style is VERY helpful to me. He gives the procedure for a problem and then works through several examples. He answers all questions clearly and fully.

Awesome. Won't make you feel dumb if you ask a dumb question. Only grades homework based on effort. Tests reflect material covered, fair grading, great sense of humor. I blew several quizzes, still got a B. I really like Dr. Sykes, wish I could have gotten him for Linear Algebra. Root for Penn State to get on his good side.

I took him for statistics and his class was really easy. It is hard to understand him sometimes because of his voice but he is a great and funny teacher. He has a good sense of humor. He knows his material. You have a quiz every Monday and they are so easy and his test are easy too. Don't buy the book because you will not need it. TAKE HIM!!

Well he is very hiliarious and keeps you laughin even if it is a corny geeky math kinda joke. He shows you how to work and understand the problems, BUT his tests are extremely hard, because he has a round about way of asking the questions. Overall, if you do have to take this class I would recommend him. Just be prepared to study and ask questions!

Excellent teacher! Take good notes and pay attention in class and you will do fine. Specific examples from class are always on the test. Tests are not multiple choice. He is VERY clear and he tells you exactly what he wants. He put things in simple terms so he's very easy to understand. The class can be easy if you pay attention. He's very lenient and funny. Iwould recommend his class to anyone! Especially if you don't do that well in math, you should take his class because it makes things simple.

I love this guy! He is BY FAR one of the best, if not the best, professor I have ever had! I am normally terrible at math, but he explains everything so well that it seems easy. He is always willing to help, and his quizzes/tests are exactly what he tells you they will be like. He does not trick you and he gives a lot of extra credit.

He is a very good teacher. The homework problems are on the test. You have to show up to class. As long as you do your homework and go to class, you will have no trouble not making at least a B. I highly recommend him as a teacher!

Great Teacher! I hate math but he is so good at making it easy to understand and he doesn't cover to much information in one class period so it's easy to retain. He doesn't take roll but go to class everytime and do the online quizzes and you will do great.

Dr. Sykes is the best math teacher I have ever had. He tells you EXACTLY what you should expect on each test and quiz and is willing to help you if you are having trouble. His grading system is great and makes keeping up with your grade easy. I definitely recommend him for any math classes you have to take that he teaches.

I took him for Survey of Calculus. SUPER easy, explains everything, tells you exactly what's on the test, goes over quizzes, allows you to bring a notecard, and you don't even need to buy the book! LOVED this class!

Attendance isn't mandatory, but you miss a lot of material of you miss a class. He'll be glad to answer a question if you're confused. Just do your homework and you'll be able to get at least a B easily. He's a really fun guy too. Take him if you can!

Sykes is a very good teacher. If you go to class and ask questions, you should be able to get an A. If you're not very good at math then you'll need to go to class all the time. The online quizzes are easy (go to class for reviews of quizzes very similar to the ones you take online). VERY GOOD TEACHER!!

Sykes is an amazing teacher! I hate math and I am awful at it but I got an A in his class! You have to go to class and study hard, but an A is not impossible at all! You use mathLab and not your book, but you should do the quizzes on mathLab because they can help your grade a lot and help with practicing the material.

I'm absolutely awful at math and hate it with a passion. But Dr. Sykes explains things so well and im passing with a pretty good grade. He is nice and will answer any questions you have. Attendance is not manadatory but to understand it you need to go to class. If you struggle with math this is the teacher for you

Sykes is a great professor. He is crystal clear and doesn't take anything personally. He's really low key. He explains all the steps thoroughly and makes sure you have plenty of time and opportunity to learn. He's super helpful. He's got a really dry humor. Ask him about how he makes a sandwich.

I absolutely hate math and managed to make a high A in his class. He teaches great and really makes sure that everyone understands before moving on to the next lesson. Before every test he gives a study guide out, which is exactly like the real test. Definitely take him for all math classes you need. Best professor at UWG!

I have had Dr. Sykes for more than one math class. You would have to not understand math at all to not understand Dr. Sykes. He is a great teacher, and even if math is not your strength, he is really great to help you. But you have to ask. He has a very dry sense of humor but is funny. Do your homework and go to class to get xtra credit.

I took calc 1 and linear algebra (MATH 2853) w/ Sykes. He is the best math teacher I have ever had. Before the test he tells you what type of problem each one is going to be on the test. You need to make sure to get all the notes but your dont have to go to all the classes. THE best math teacher ever!

Dr. Sykes is the best math teacher at UWG, without a doubt. He explains abstract concepts as if they are basic math concepts. The tests are easy, the work is minimal. His class is entertaining and has allowed all of us to build friendships with him as well as the other students in the class. If you have the opportunity, take his class!(and show up)

Besides the fact that his monotone voice could put you to sleep, he's a great teacher!Took him for algebra and again for calc. pay attention and go to class and its an easy A. Attendance isn't mandatory but try to go to at least 75% of the classes and you should do well.

Best Math proffessor! Inspired me to change my major to Math. Notes are very clear. Classwork assignments are towards tests. Didn't need textbook only workbook. Always come to class. You'll be surprised what he asks for. Drops lowest quiz grade and adds it towards final for extra points.

Mr. Sykes is one of the best professors I have had in college! He is very interesting, and he does not assign homework. You learn everything in class, and you have a quiz every Friday unless there is an exam. If you go to class, at the end he gives you questions to do yourself, and those questions go toward extra credit on your exam grades!

He's a great and hilarious professor. You get extra credit on tests if you come to class and do the assignment. He's really good at explaining everything to make it simpler to understand. I never touched the textbook(his lectures suffice). Need the workbook to complete assignment(but can borrow neighbors). Workbook gives extra practice.

Dr Sykes is awesome! He makes Stats somewhat interesting, and is always there to help. You will most likely get out of class early. He gives daily, in class extra credit so make sure you go to class. Sykes is such an amazing math professor. He is very monotone, but I have never understood math so well in my life. I would definitely take him again for another math class. Only down side is MyMathLab which is the website that he uses for quizzes. The website sucks and you have to exact with everything.

Professor Sykes was an amazing Calc professor. He makes everything very easy to understand and gives a quiz (ONLINE) once a week. His tests are pretty much all multiple choice with maybe one or two write in questions. He is normally laid back on test days and if you need to cheat.. you can.. (Mathway) but dont rely on that. Learn the formulas.

He was an amazing teacher if you ask me. The way that he outlines the questions and solutions and the various solving techniques made it easy for me to understand- and I despise mathematics. However, I attribute most of my success to ALEKS homework assignments. They challenged my intellect, to say the least!

Dr. Sykes is an AMAZING professor! If you have trouble with math whatsoever he is definitely the professor to take! It gives you reviews that are nearly identical to the tests you will be given. There are four tests and a cumulative final that counts for two test grades and he drops one test grade. There is no homework only quizzes. TAKE HIM!!!

Professor Sykes is wonderful. If you ever have to take Survey of Calculus I definitely recommend him. He is knowledgeable in Calculus, which shows during his lectures. I hate math, but he makes it so fun and very easy. Your overall grade is based on four tests, online quizzes, and the final exam. He drops your lowest test and quiz grades.

Dr. Sykes is the best algebra professor, hands down. The only thing I didnt like about his class was that he didnt post homework assignments on courseden because if you miss class youre screwed. Other than that, hes funny, super caring/understanding, and its a relatively easy A considering its algebra. Would definitely reccomend for anyone.

Just go to class. It is so tempting to skip, but in the end it's going to hurt you. He is probably the best math teacher I have ever had. He teaches the material to where even a child could pass. If you have to take MATH 1413 he is your best bet.

Professor Sykes is funny and teaches Algebra better than most but this class is tricky to succeed in. Grading scale is confusing, getting your homework back and seeing what grade you have is a huge hassle and each test is only 20 questions so if you mess up 2 problems you've just lost a letter grade. I'd take him again but I wish he'd get organized

Dr. Sykes is hands down the best math teacher Ive ever had. I told him during office hours that I dont like algebra cause I don't get it but by paying attention to his lectures I understood. Going to office hours helps! I went from getting 68s to only missing 1 Q on his final. He has a dry sense of humour & id do it all over again. TAKE HIM !!

Professor Sykes was a great professor. I took him while I was dual-enrolled. Because of high school it was hard to make his office hours. But one time I got to go... I went from making 70s to missing ONE question on his final. He does not let you leave until you understand. He is monotone and has a dry sense of humour but he's great all-around.

Professor Sykes seems to understand that students have to take his class to meet core. Precalc isn't easy for everyone, but he makes it easy to understand and pass. Attendance isn't mandatory but gives you opportunities for extra credit on exams every day so go to class! He surprised us by allowing a cheat sheet for the final. Drops lowest exam.

He has a sort of monotone voice, so he isn't the most interesting person to listen to. He lectures for half of the class and you work on a sheet for the other half of class. There is extra credit almost every class and the expectations for homework are easy and clear. He actually has a great sense of humor if you make a point to talk to him.

Professor Scott Is hands down a Solid choice for survey of calculus! He gives bonus points for every test. He makes stuff make sense. He wants his students to succeed in his class. I struggle He stays to work problems with students after class ends. Make sure you take advantage of his time. You will make a solid B or A. Depend on your work ethic.

he is truly amazing. i love algebra so this course was easy, but even if you don't like algebra, you will love him. he is caring and loves to help students. also, classwork is optional (i encourage it for extra credit!). homework is online and the tests are like 15-20 questions. overall, 10/10.

Professor Scott is 100/100. you have 5 exams plus homework and a final. the exams are paired with practice tests AKA the test with different numbers. Those are life saviors. Put your best foot forward and he will notice that and help you in any way he can. There is a reason why his classes fill up so fast. ALSOME professor drop the mic!

I recommend Dr Sykes to anyone who is about to take Calculus - well in my case it was survey of calculus(math1413). He is friendly and understands the psychology of teaching students. Dr Sykes understands that students have different levels of strength. So don't think twice, go ahead and register for his class. YOU CAN ONLY FAIL IF YOU DON'T CARE.

Hands down the best math professor at UWG!! He gives extra credit opportunities before each test and the lowest test grade is dropped at the end of the semester. The final is worth two test grades so watch for that when planning ahead. Super straight to the point and teaches you everything you will need to know for the test! Be sure to take notes!

Best math professor I've had so far. Lectures were clear and 30 minutes max, and the rest of the time was to do your class work which could be used for extra credit on the test. 5 tests, a final (worth 2 tests) and a homework grade. (myopenmath) Worst test grade is dropped too. If you are able to take Professor Sykes, I'd encourage you to do so.

Sykes is awesome. He only teaches what will be on the exams. You have homework due before each exam, but it's not too bad if you stay on top of your work each week. I have never taken calculus before, and I would not say I am the brightest in math, but I have not made less than an 80 on my exams. Also, he drops the lowest exam grade!

Professor Sykes is the best math professor you'll find. Lectures are straightforward, and he offers lots of extra credit to help you succeed. Definitely use Unstuck study alongside the free textbook to prep for tests - it really saved me time and boosted my grade.
