I had this professor at city. his class is hard but fair. get ready to study
The class ridiculously harder than it should be. Boost your grade with the map quizzes and the service project, he spends most of the time telling you how hard the class is instead of taking that time to teach.
He is really nice to look at but is really hard. The tests are EXTREMELY hard. He uses every minute of classtime. He is really excited about teaching geography but all he does is lecture the whole class. Its impossible to get an A or B.
This class is not nearly as hard as people are making it out to be. I didn't even do the Service Learning project and I got a B. Tests are not impossible as long as you take good notes and study. I didn't even have to read the book! Class is graded on a curve so a B is like 70 something percent.
He’s just average looking: skinny, short and pale as far as his teaching goes he’s pretty lame with that too. The class in long and boring, he keeps us till the possible last minute, tests are extremely hard and the material is impossible to learn. The only good things about his classes are bonus points like service learning project and map quizzes
So he's HOT.. ok.. his tests are HORRIBLE, class is easy and he tries to help but it just doesnt click, u can tell he likes what he's doing but a lil help to the student would be nice.. he's better than the other GEOG teachers at grossmont take him anyday over Judd and CLiffe
Very young and good looking guy. I don think this class is hard at all, just you need to check study questions on the web. Sometimes I fell asleep, but he is funny and good at talking. The subject itself is interesting and changed my world view.
he's hot. Thats all he is though!!!! He is only fun to look at. I have tried so hard in that class, but there is no getting it. All he does is lecture the whole class, and sometimes longer! He makes you take the tests or quizes at the END of class. so great, you learned new things, but forgot the old things. Trust me people, do NOT get this teacher
I think you are being a little overly dramatic, the class is hard but if you show up ask questions and actually do the work it is possible to do well. He basically gives you the test questions in the form of review questions, do those and you will pass. Also, it is one of the only classes that has actually made me appreciate the world more!
Great teacher. yes the content of the class is difficult, but I got an A+. My secret?? I attended all of the lectures, did the study guides, and studied for every test. I didn't even open the book once. Everything you need to know is in the letures so don't miss a class and take good notes. Grade based on exams, map quizzes and "context" quizzes.
The quizzes are extremely easy to study for if you use his website resources. The journals required help keep you up to date with the news. He's funny and will help you if you ask. Tests are a little tough, but nothing insane like people make it to be. I'm a procrastinator but his course is fun and involved.
Funny,Nice,Helpfull and Good Lookin Guy. Scott Is Way Better Than Judd. Very Informative, Class Moves Quick You Dont Want To Miss Any. Service Learning Project Was Easy and Map Quizes Are Easy Points. If U Want 2 Pass Do The Extra Credit ?'s. Thats My Best Advice. Overall He Was Quite Easy One Of The Best Professors Teaching Geography, 4 sHO!!
Great teacher, lecture are to the point and if you take notes and do the labs, theres no way you won't pass. and the teacher is really helpful, and will help you understand the lab. best of all u can use the labs and notes on the test. If you need to take the lab, take it with him
He's a really cool teacher. He explains everything so clear and everything that's on the study guide is on the exam. All you gotta do is go to class, takes notes, and your set. And another plus for me, he's hot. LOL. ;]
A very good teacher. His teaching method is pretty straight forward. His lectures have a sort of wit to them that's hard to explain. Tests are incredibly simple - they're all entirely based off his lectures, and he provides good study guides. There were no surprises in his class.
I took physical and cultural. Didn't buy book for either. Got A+ in both. Listen to what he says and you'll do fine provided you're not a moron.
Prof Therkalsen is great. I enjoyed the class. Hes willing to help you out anytime. I know a few of my classmates also felt like he dumbed you, but I didnt feel that from him. I just wished he'd allow you to take home the labs more.. instead of rushing to finish them. midterm and final are open book, but def. study for the final. it's hard!
Don't miss a day of class or you'll be behind! You pretty much know what to expect after the first test. He gives you study guides but there's lots of information to learn. Go to class and keep up with the study guide. Don't study last minute and keep up with the lectures!
good teacher, very clear on what he wants and expects. you have to come to class every time, or you will get lost fast. He gives you study guides for all test, and has a very helpful website. Class is pretty much just 4 test and you have to write a journal every week. And he also looks like Noah from the notebook which is a bonus.
Very cool, laid back teacher who loves his subject. Appreciates class input and lets you know EXACTLY what information you need and what you don't. Copy the board, read over your notes before the test and you'll get a B, guaranteed. Hard subject, just have to keep at it. Checks his email and answers questions even on weekends to help out.
Goes WAY too in depth-his test review packets (extra credit) are 11+ pages TYPED! I've never even written an essay that long. Lectures the ENTIRE time. Expects you to memorize tedious details, rather than general concepts. You will NEVER use the book. Helpful - and teaching style is humerous - but shoves this General Ed subject down your throat.
Every ounce of me hated this class. I looked the clock every two minutes and wanted to die when I saw there was still an hour left. If geography is your thing, maybe you'll like it...
This class was harder than my calculus class. But I will hand it to Scott. If you bust your butt you will get an A. Students who want an easy class should pass, but I will say that I learned an incredible amount of information from Scott, great teacher. Listen, Learn, and ask Questions. You will get the grade you deserve in this class. No effort =C
He is clear and thorough in his lectures. There is never any surprises on the tests. If you show up and pay attention you should be fine. Don?t worry about getting the book, you don?t need it at all.
This class reminded me of high school where most teachers just give you busy work..the journals you have to do are completely pointless. Overall a really easy class. You just have to do all the bullsh*t work. He is a pretty good teacher though. & DONT BUY THE BOOK you will never use it.
Attendance is mandatory if you want a passing grade. Each lecture covers A LOT of the material that is going to be on the test. Test are NOT easy (multiple chice, fill in the blank, short answer, and true/false questions) but if you want an A on the test you should study for this class 24/7 cuz this class is just HARD =/
Class should be easy for those who are interested in Geography. Good teaching skills, if a little bit of an introvert. Definatley easy to get lost in you miss a class. Reading the book just made it easier to not get lost during lectures.
VERY DIFFICULT SUBJECT MATTER. For those of you looking for an easy A this is NOT. THAT. CLASS. For those of you interested, all you have to do is pay attention every day, copy the notes and you're fine. I opened my book once and just got an A in the course. He does go fast but that is the tough curriculum, not the teacher's fault.
Cool class for History and Humanities majors. Very informative, fun, interesting material. Teacher is always available for office hours, answers emails quickly. Wants you to get a good grade but if you're not putting in any effort he won't waste much time. Journals suck but if you do it every week you're fine. Didn't use the book at all.
He thinks your life only revolves around his Geography Class, Quiz and Test every week. He gives about 3 pages worth of questions to study for the test, so about 30 pages worth of questions for all the tests. What are we robots or computers to stuff all this in our brain in just 1 semester. This is not a Graduate School Class. Im dropping his class
hahaha i was reading the previous comments saying how hard he was--if you think his class was hard YOU WILL FAIL in college. take it from someone who has been there. his class was very organized and journals were useful for every day life. I felt smarter after taking this class. map quizzes hard, but useful, too.
funny, helpful, and nice to look at :-) don't miss class, study for tests and map quizzes and you will do well and learn a lot. a college class therefor he treats you like a COLLEGE student, he understandably expects effort from his students. i will take one of his classes again, and not just because he's hot.
He is not a bad teacher but his class is just WAY TOO HARD! HIs study guides and weekly homework are pages and pages long and he loves to put trick questions on the tests. Despite all my best efforts I had to drop
He is a very good teacher, he knows so much and you can tell he likes what he teaches. You do have to put work into this class but it is nothing to bad. I got a C, which I am fine with. He is nice to look at too. Made going to class easy just to look at him. He does offer study prep which is helpful. He tries his best to help you pass the class.
I took him 3 years ago, and had to finally leave a comment. He's probably one of thee best professors I have had during my whole college experience. He's very clear on what he expects, organized and easy to talk to if you need help. Up until now I still remember alot of what he's taught me. I received a B+ in the class.
I had no interest in taking this class, but it ended up being one of my favorite classes thanks to Scott. He is interesting and funny during lectures. Attendance is necessary, take good notes, sit up front and pay attention. Tests are straight from lecture. Minimal work, but studying is a good idea. Just pay attention and ask questions!
this is for everybody who is interesyed o take geo class, be aware of him, just do not his class;look for another helpful teacher
Really cool teacher. Covers all material clearly and is actually pretty funny. Helpful if you ask for it gives study guides for all tests and quizzes. Great teacher!
Scott is a very good teacher. If you do not have a strong work ethic, you may struggle in the class. Textbook is not needed because all the information that is on the test is from the study guide he gives you. Take advantage of all the extra credit, you will need it. Some sections of the course can be challenging, but Scott is very helpful.
This class is hard in general. But you do every study guid for thee test, you will just fine. Every point in this class counts. make sure you do good on the map quiz, which is very easy and will for sure need the points. Never used the book, just make sure you do not miss a class. missing one class, is like missing a full chapter.
He gives you so much information that attendance is a must. There is a lot of work, but it's all very interesting and he does a good job presenting everything so it's not hard. The book chapters are long, but Mr. Therkalsen provides review questions to answer which is helpful to determine what info to pay attention to. He is also very funny.
The class is very hard but interesting. Lots of homework, but isn't it better to learn?
Very entertaining and funny, lectures in a satirical and easy to understand way. I actually hate geography but I loved coming to this class. Tests are all lecture so always show up to class. I recommend this class for good note takers. Really ANYONE can pass this class and its a fun one. He also has a website but I didn't like it.
Scott is awesome. I've taken his 120 & 106 classes. There isn't too much hw, but attendance is a must. The book is "required" but hardly used. There is a ton of info in class, so show up & take notes. He's funny, willing to help if you need, and quick to respond to e-mails. Plus, he is hot. So that's nice too.
Dont miss class. he goes over so much information and the in class notes summarize the main points.the information is easy to understand he just give you so much at one time its kinda hard to keep up. you definitely have to make time to study the chapter outlines in detail otherwise the test will be hard.
"I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS CLASS" Scott has a rad beard. He's very clear on explaining the material. Attendance is very important, if you miss one class you will be lost. The exams aren't too hard, just be sure you study for at least four hours.
Super great teacher; SOOOO much material. He seriously gives a crapton of in-class notes, so make sure to go to every class or you'll be lost. I didn't buy the text, but I highly recommend an atlas; the map quizzes were pretty difficult for me. The tests were difficult, only bc there was so much to know, so study!! Ask him for help, he'll give it!
Great teacher! You learn a lot in his classes. Though the tests are challenging because he actually wants you to understand the material. If you study regularly and do the homework you will do well. He also has a website that is very helpful and his lectures cover all the test material.
Great professor, easy enough tests, the material is interesting, and there is not a lot of work. One thing to be aware of is most of the points come for quiz's and test, and there isn't a lot. One failed quiz or missed assignment can hurt your grade significantly. But he gives you everything you need to pass, all you need is a bit of effort.
This class is hard! I struggled for the 70.1% I got up until the day of the final. Do not take this class thinking it'll be easy. It Won't. His grading on the two essays is ridiculous. I used to be an english major and I got a D on one. Yup. The wording on tests is very hard to understand. Don't take this class unless you need to.
His lectures are excellent, he outlines exactly what you need to know for tests and writes exactly how your notes should look *on a white board*, making sure you have enough time instead of skipping through a power point. He speaks loudly and clearly. He gives a large amount of easy busy work. Forgiving grader when he can be (short answers, papers)
Great teacher! I have never learned so much in one semester. DO NOT MISS CLASS and take A LOT of notes, but he is one of the best teachers I have ever had. :)
I absolutely loved this class. He is a great teacher and shows you exactly what he wants you to know. He uses a powerpoint but only for images, while writing the notes on the board. He takes the time to make sure we understand and adds humor to make it interesting. Reading the chapters is suggested but isn't needed. Take this class! he's cute too!
Scott is, by far, the best professor I have had. Completely organized, clear and concise, follows syllabus reliably. Attend every class, take lengthy notes, do his study guides. Ask questions, sit in front, put cell phone. Funny, passionate, loves his work. No need to buy text.
I'm not a great test taker and this class was so hard. Hated going to class.
Very informative. He gives you everything you need to learn the material. Enjoyed his class very much.
Very good teacher. In first class seems to be difficult but after some time it becomes very easy and interesting. His grading system is strict but if you attend the lectures and take good notes you should be fine and get a B at least.
Great teacher!! Super Nice. Makes his lectures fun and easy. If you go to class everyday, write down all his notes you can pass this class. I looked forward to this class every time.
he is very clear in his expectations, stays on pace with the syllabus. lectures only on material for the test. attend class and you will know exactly what will be on quizzes and tests. nice and relaxed professor.
Mr. T knows his geography. It's a very interesting class but the notes can be VERY cryptic if you don't expound upon them. The books were not necessary at all to learn the material. This class is easy if you take the time to study and understand your notes & maps. Mr. T is a great teacher so reach out if you need help. Great class.
He was very strict on his grading, and he never was specific on what was done wrong when grading his paper.
This teacher is great! He keeps you interested during his lectures and overall is pretty funny! He is helpful and if you have any questions, he is easily approachable. This class was great, interesting, fun and I recommend him as a teacher!
Take if you like class, but hate reading. Textbook not necessary at all. Gives you everything you need in lecture. Attendance is extremely important, as the info in lecture is extremely close to test. Great attitude, fun to listen to. Anything but physical geog: easy, most of content is common knowledge. Easy grader on essays. Overall fairly easy.
One of the most interesting classes I took all year! He is funny and knowledgeable! You only have 5 handout homework assignments all year. Have to show up to class though, or you miss a lot of information. But overall a great class I highly recommend it!
He is an amazing teacher! He is funny and knowledgeable. This is no easy class. You have to study and take good notes. He is a lot of help if you are lost. My biggest advice is to study and do as much extra credit as you can.
Scott is the man. Easy class if you attend every lecture and study 3-4 hours before every test. One research paper that is from your notes, and 5 easy take home assigntments. Very interesting class that you can apply to life outside the classroom
One of the best teachers I've had in a while. Currently taking him and have 0 complaints. Great sense of humor and really makes it almost impossible to fail. Anyone who says he's hard is lazy. If you have to take Geography, take Therkalsen !
This is the best teacher I have ever had. The class is hard, but it is very interesting. Although English is not my first language and I have been living in USA for one year only, I could understand almost everything. If you are working hard and have a lot of time to study, take this class. You will like it.
This was my 2nd time taking the course as I had to withdraw the first time for personal reasons. I def learned how to take him efficiently. CanNOT miss as u will miss a lot of info. Textbook good for study guides. He loves geography thats for sure. Is knowledgeable. U have to pay attention though to really understand. Can go to geo lab for help too
Scott is the best professor I've ever had. At first I took his class just for general ed credit, but I left with a serious love for geography! I wish I could take more classes with him. 5 easy map quizzes, 1 short paper, and 4 exams. The exams are only hard if you miss class or take bad notes. His lectures are funny and captivating. Love him!
Great teacher. Even though he made the prediction that I was cheating on a stupid map quiz. Which was false. But despite from that, he seems to be a very fair professor. However, he does grade very harshly. Prepare to work very hard when he assigns homework and do very well on the study guide when preparing for exams. He really looks at that.
I would look into another professor for this section. This is a basic 120 class but he treats it like an upper level bachelor course. Very tough grader. Good luck if you have him...
I think the class overall is a good subject class. However, I don't really like him. Really tough grader. And if you are failing his class, he is willing to help but becomes very biased with you. He picks his favorites. He treats his class like an upper division class when it's basic geography 120. If I would have known, would have never taken him.
He is in my opinion the best choice for a Geography professor at Grossmont. The tests can be difficult however they are based entirely off of the lecture. The textbook readings are not mandatory and honestly you can get by just fine without them. there was minimal homework other than studying. The lectures are entertaining as well.
I have taken this class with another professor and completely failed. This time around I was able to pass by taking Therkalsen. He is very good when explaining topics, he cares, and gives extra credit opportunity which is the reason I passed. You have to put in the time or it's impossible to pass.
Scott Therkalsen is an awesome teacher. He will no doubt expect you to copy everything exactly how he writes in on the board, and do it! Everything you need to know for the tests will be in your notes or in the study guide. If you go to class and pay attention youll do fine. I took World Regional & Physical with him and i learned a ton!
Solid teacher, he makes lectures interesting. The class is strightforward 4 test, 4 map quizes, some homework, and 1 essay. Just show up to class, take good notes, and study and you'll do fine. The test are fairly easy and he's a generous grader.
He's hot and funny, which is great, but also a totes great lecturer. His material is actually interesting and so the time always goes by pretty fast. If you can take him, do it, you won't regret it. Unless you're a slacker. His tests are comprehensive so STUDY. Seriously, you won't make it without actually studying.
By far the best Geography professor at Grossmont!!
For the notes, they don't make sense, you have to write everything he says, and he talks way too fast. But overall he knows what he is talking about. The exams though are very content heavy and have to know what you're doing.
Tests are just about the notes so just take notes and you get an A. Homework is easy about the stuff you do in class in the news. Likes to talk about wars and crazy people and the crazy stuff happening in the world - makes it funny. probably gonna sign up for his other class too.
This is the class that you can learn a lot. It covers a variety of topics of cultural geography. The professor cares about students, and he is always willing to answer any questions you have. When I had difficulty memorizing the map quiz, he helped me. His lectures are amazing. If you have bad grades, it is your problem, please study. It is simple.
Gives a running lecture that uses power point, white boards, and hand out packet. There are a lot of hand out packets, but they do serve good functions. Study for the map quizzes as much as you can for easy points-only 15 out of the dozens are used though. Tests are easier than they seem as long as you study the material.
This was honestly one of the most interesting classes I have ever taken. The professor actually ties in geography with current events and history. The majority of the information on the test is from lecture. Make sure to do the review questions because they help out a lot and don't miss class. You won't regret taking this class!
I highly recommend this as an online class. He has really great lecture videos that are super entertaining as well as informative. No textbook was required, just watch all the video lectures, take really good notes, and you'll pass. He does require you to actually go to campus to take exams, everything else is online though.
I loved his class. Super smart guy and definitely easy on the eyes too :) Class is challenging but if you show up and pay attention, plus take good notes and study you should do great! His lectures translate over directly to exam so there's no big surprises there.
Prof Therkalsen is a great teacher. Very inspirational and informative lectures that show a new perspective on many cultures around the world. The tests are standard, need to study to pass them, but he grades fair and clear. Would definitely take again.
10/10
He was a really good teacher, but you have to study, study, study. When provides a time for tutoring, take it. The way he lectures isn't the way he gives his test (his lectures are very casual, but his tests are specific.) Very nice guy and will try to help you if you have difficulty in his class.
Professor was extremely hard on grading. Gave zero feedback on anything. Very lecture heavy and it was often very difficult to keep up. Professors attitude was "it is always your fault" There was a test every week of the semester. Easily the most difficult class I have taken in college.
Cultural Geography has been eye opening like if you reach enlightenment thats how this class has been. I have learned much more than I thought I would and its great to use the material for arguments on social media. The professor Scott is a classy dude and the beard is legendary. This dude is legit and smooth like my legs after I shave them!
This class is very difficult and hard to keep up with. If you miss a class, good luck catching back up. Lectures are long and hard to follow, tests are very hard and lots of quizzes.
Very hard grader on the two essays he assigns and he gives a test every week. On days that are not test days, he spends lecturing and often times requests that we stay after the class was over to cover more materiel. Very challenging class, stay away from this professor.
Mr. Therkalsen is a very calm and composed teacher who taught a very awesome Geography class. He is also very funny and also cares about what he teaches. He also gives extra that not only helps you grade-wise but also helps you study for the upcoming tests.
Scott is a very knowledgeable professor that is passionate about geography. A textbook isn't mandatory, but I heavily recommend it. The tests and quizzes are a bit difficult, but there are a lot of tutoring and office hours to help with it. If you want to pass the class expect to put in a lot of effort into studying this subject.
He's funny and the lectures are interesting. If you ever need help, he is available during office hours. Just listen to his helpful suggestions, study, and pay attention to the lectures!
Great professor! he has a morbed sense of humor but I really enjoyed his class. The map quizzes are intimidating at fist but really aren't that bad. His class is a lot of work and you really have to study but overall it's a great class.
Therkalsen is savage. His lectures are so compact so you really need to show up to class ready to learn and take a ton of notes. Hes a great teacher. Personally I dont care about the subject but he makes it interesting and challenging. Id say hes a good choice even though its tough and Im no over acheiver
He lectures for the full class every time without fail. No breaks or group work, it is all lecture. No homework. He keeps it interesting and you will learn tons of concepts. One criticism I have is for him assigning an hour with of lecture videos the weekend before finals. It was stuff he hadnt covered (even with his extensive lectures)
His tests are very difficult and all the quizzes are fill in the blank. He marks it wrong if you misspell a countries name by one letter. Lectures put you to sleep.
Takes a long time grading, and gives you pointless homework assignments. He has the attitude that his class is the only one that matters. Easily the hardest class I have ever taken.
I never had a professor who explains better than him! If you take notice and study well his lecture, you will get an A on the exam.
This was a tough one. The course itself is pretty hard but Professor Therkalsen was a great teacher. There is heavy note taking and new things learned everyday so attendance is vital. The tests are pretty difficult but if you pay attention you should be fine. What he teaches is what's on the tests. Challenging class but very laid back and fun.
Really positive and gives good feedback but be prepared to watch all of his lectures and do the assignments. It's a lot of work but he's a great guy and made it enjoyable
Really funny and gave you a lot of information. his exams were the most difficult things I have ever taken. Because he didn't want nobody to teach, he would make them really short. this cased many problems because sometimes I had to skip questions like that I could finish it. Before you star the exam, STUDY REALLY WELL
loved his class. he is funny. His quizzes and exams are one of a kind. Prepare to do the work, but also he is so helpful go to his office hours, or just email he will be glad to help. I would gladly take again. only graded on weekly quiz and exams .
He is horrible. Don't take him at all. His videos are long and his quizzes aren't even on his videos. For his tests, he has three different parts. Which are all timed. For his mapping part he thinks that the student can do it in 20 min and he has 10 questions. His written part of the test he will have 10 questions for 30 mins and he wants detailed
Therkalsen is the best! I took GEOG-120 for GE & liked it so much that I took his GEOG-130 too! Super flexible and understanding that life makes school hard, and offers a generous window to turn in work. Great if you like watching lectures at your own pace, super engaging, learned a ton! Would definitely recommend, challenging but worth it!
Professor Therkalsen is a very great and passionate teacher. I am really happy I took his class. He really makes the lectures easy to watch. I learned so much in the class and I really appreciate the time he took in making the videos entertaining and so educational. I would definitely take his class again if I needed to and 10/10 would recommend.
His lectures are hilarious and very engaging. Straightforward with what work needs to be done every week. This is a very enjoyable class.
Take his class if you want to learn! This was by far the most entertaining and informational class I have taken. I still apply the knowledge I gained from this class in my other classes and life. Professor Therkalsen makes his lectures engaging and you will not regret taking this class. His tests are difficult, but if you prepare you'll do fine.
Professor Therkalsen is a unique professor. I pretty much half ass online classes but his lectures are AMAZING. Youll actually enjoy watching them. The only con is the timed exams. The time almost seems unfair
Professor Therkalsen was probably the best professor I had at Grossmont college. Unlike many other teachers, Professor Therkalsen adapted well to online teaching. His class is straightforward and informative. He does a great job at teaching students how to take proper notes. Professor Therkalsen is open minded and always listen to his students.
Overall Prof Therkalsen was great. Just be prepared to put in a lot of time watching lectures. The weekly work isn't a big deal... but you should prepare about 2 weeks in advance for the Final, (this is the biggest tests and require a lot of studying).
As a person, great guy, awesome professor always responding fairly quickly to emails, gave good feedback. His course is lecture videos heavy, no textbook, can get a little picky when grading. Be ready to dedicate more time to this gen ed course than on any other course, there was no need for this course to be harder than my major required courses.
For a gen ed 101 course, this class will take up a big chunk of your time. He can get super nitpicky when it comes to grading, and claims you only need the lecture videos to pass, but he talks so fast in them that even after a 10th watch, it's still confusing! Save your time, energy, and mental health, and take GEO101 with another professor.
Let me tell you, he's my favorite professor. I really enjoy both classes I took with him Geo120 and 130, pretty easy and fun material but you have to pay attention to details in your notes and study guide to get good points on your exams. He's very nice and cooperative and works with your special needs. He's always responsive and available too.
Loved his class. It is a lot of lectures but he makes them very fun and entertaining to watch. He also gives you lecture notes which makes the quizzes SO easy. Each week is just the lectures, a mapping assignment, and a quiz. I highly recommend his class!
I enjoyed this class and this professor so much. He puts a ton of thought into his lectures and assignments and I totally could've gotten an A had I tried harder but I had a heavy load. It's a hard class but he gives tons of extra credit and study guides. He makes everything very clear and is super nice! Take his class as long as you aren't lazy!
He clearly cares and is passionate about the subject. His lectures are heavy and quizzes and exams are based on the lectures. If you don't watch them and take notes, you will not pass. He was a tough grader and had a very specific criteria for what he looked for in your answers. He was a good teacher but I would not recommend if you are lazy.
This class had a lot of lecture videos every week, but they were entertaining and I could tell the teacher put a lot of effort into them. Always gave feedback on tests and assignments and suggested ways to help prepare more for future ones. Very good communicator and responds quickly to emails, I would heavily recommend this teacher.
Lots of lecture videos every week, which worried me at first, but I found them entertaining and could tell the professor put a lot of effort into. Always gives feedback on tests and assignments and suggests ways to improve for future ones. Great communication and responds to emails quickly, I would heavily recommend this professor.
I took this course fully online. Although he is an extremely engaging professor, his course if definitely meant to be taken in-person. This is not an online class you can skim by, you have to actively be taking notes from his lectures, as the topics can't be searched online. Overall, I enjoyed the class but prepare to put in effort and time.
Great teacher & super nice, very into what he teaches. Easy class for the most part, if you need to turn something in late talk to him and he will approve, he believes in "life happens" A lot of extra credit and only ONE homework assignment. I am not taking anymore geography classes but if I did I would choose him as my teacher.
I took "Intro to Global Studies" (online class) and really loved it! He created super engaging and interesting lecture videos. He seems to really love his subject and is very understanding with his students. He's also easy to get a hold of and put a lot of thought into his online curriculum. I'm taking another one of his classes next semester!
I took his online class in spring 2023, and it was a class I always looked forward to sitting down to do the lecture videos and note taking! His lecture videos feel very interactive and he keeps them entertaining and breaks them up into many videos so it feels easier to get through. The quizzes all had the exact information from the notes!
This class was great!!!! I took him for on fall for GEOG-130 online and the lectures were great. Video lectures were a bit long but interesting.
This class is highly time-consuming, but the lectures are clear, well-thought-out, and packed with great information. Taking detailed notes is essential to do well. The professor is passionate about the subject, provides quick feedback, and grades promptly. While challenging, the course is incredibly rewarding—I'd definitely take it again.
This class is very lecture heavy. Flexible with due dates. The class is structured so that every week, you have lectures and a quiz on that week's lectures. Every few weeks, a quiz is due, plus your lecture notes. Also, make sure you have a RELIABLE printer for this class because the handouts you buy from the school are outdated and have changed.
Prof Therkalsen makes the class engaging, but it's time-intensive. Lectures are crucial - watch them multiple times. Also, use Unstuck AI and the free textbook to prepare for the challenging final. Overall, a rewarding gen-ed course.
Prof. T has an amazing personality teaching and his lectures were actually entertaining. If you study and write good notes you will do good. Don't be afraid to ask questions he is very understanding.
amazing teacher he's is interested in the student and he is funny love his lectures I have taken three classes with Mr. Therkalsen and I have enjoyed each one yes it is a lot of videos and a lot of work but if you enjoy global studies and put in the effort you will come out with an A. would definitely take him again
This was my second time having this professor and he was really wonderful! Even though it's an online class, he makes the lectures engaging and goes out of his way to give a lot of feedback on all assignments. He was really good about late work and also graded things very quickly. Not a hard class if you take good notes.
Not lying, my favorite professor from Spring 2025. I was really dreading taking a science class, but I ended up loving it. The lectures were really engaging and if you missed class, the lecture videos were just as helpful. It is extremely heavy on notetaking and studying for tests, but it is interesting material (a lotta SD area stuff).
His lectures are informative and he supplies the note outlines. As long as you take notes and pay attention to what is in the lecture you will do fine.
