This is the best teacher, period, that I've ever had. Mr. Pike uses his own methods to help make mathematics fun and interesting. I was always fully engaged in his class. I wish I could have this dude for the rest of my mathematics related classes in school *sigh*

He's very sarcastic, but don't let that put you off. Sometimes he cracks jokes, which lighten up the unavoidable dullness of a math class. He explains everything clearly, and if you study and do your homework you’ll understand every concept! Also, he doesn’t give homework everyday, so you have to be self-motivated to do well.

I had Mr. Pike over the summer, he was awesome. He explains math in a way that is crystal clear. Easy to get a good grade, as long as you keep up with the HW. No textbook work at all. Funny guy, likes to refernece country songs. all around great teacher.

So, I've had this guy for 092, 120, and now for 187. He is the greatest math instructor at MCC. His teaching methods are so easy to understand and he has a great sense of humor. He's also very fair in how he grades, giving partial credit on tests. Everyone loves him! I'm so lucky to have had him for 1.5 years...I REALLY wish he taught 220.

Pike is a very good teacher. He doesn't assign much homework. He explaines concepts better than any math teacher I've ever had. His tests are average in difficulty, but he does give partial credit and an extra credit question. Oh yeah and he's pretty funny.

Online class not recommended for students who have difficulty with math. Professor was quick to respond to emails and sent reminders when homework and tests were due. Syllabus clear with dates when assignments due. Recommend the professor, but not the online class.

Mr. Pike is a great teacher. He has a real talent for explaining things clearly. He's also quite funny. I recommend him to average Joes like me who aren't that great at math but don't struggle with concepts. He'll help you extra too. About 1-2 HW assignments per week (25 problems) and gives partial credit on tests. I'll be taking him next semester.

I have never met a more competent math professor. I hate math but he makes it so easy, totally 100% notes - no book! His notes are used on the homework and the homework is used on the tests and tests for the final. Look, if you need help with math, he-will-help-you!

I took his on-line Math class.I am not a math person and was scared 2 take math online-mymathlab is very user friendly&each step is laid out 4 each problem.He gets back 2 you ASAP when you email him.Test R available 2 work on from the begining of the class,all of them.Hmwk can B done over & over until you get 100%-will take the next math with him.

I have taken this class 2 times and I passed with his help, his office hours aren't really good but If you ask a question in class he will answer is sarcastically but he will do the problem. He offers allot of extra credit homework, so If you do the homework you will pass. You do have to study but he doesn't use book. homework like 2 times a week.

No book, easy notes, funny teacher, tons of extra credit (you can actually score over a 100 percent in this class) and i got the best grade in both of the classes i took with him. I love you Pike!

Mr. Pike is one of the greatest teachers you will ever meet. A student will find his teachings clear and easy to follow. He is one that will go over problems with you and help you with anything. The student on the other hand needs to be the responsible one to receive his help. I give him 100% approval for any student to take his class.

Where was he when I was in High School? As an older student, I found Mr. Pike an EXCELLENT teacher! Very clear, very direct, and willing to help if you ask for it. Did NOT make me feel stupid. A HUGE PLUS!

Mr.Pike was amazing! I fail with a different teacher because the teacher didnt care if we passed or failed. He gives extra credit if you turn in your homework early. The extra credit helps to give you a better grade. If you have any issues Mr. Pike will help you with them. Show up to class, do your homework, and you will almost always pass!

Mr. Pike is an excellent professor. I was never able to pass a math class before his and I walked out of that class with an A. He is able to explain the concepts so that anyone can understand then. The extra credit is a nice incentive and his dry but really funny sense of humor helped make a less stressed class

Good teacher! If you get help from him during office hours, you will pass. Not the best teacher, just efficient! He is sarcastic but once you get past that rough exterior, he is a giant teddy bear who actually wants you to succeed! Ask him for help and he will help you. Good learning experience overall

Mr. Pike is amazing. He is my best teacher so far. If you attend class and do the homework there is no way not to pass. He gives study guides to help out. Never even bought the book. He is ready to help and seems to enjoy teaching. Likes to tell jokes and some stories. HOWEVER, he expects you to work and not fool around in class. :)

I'm really getting into math thanks to this teacher. Doesn't use the text book for the class and homework is only 10% of final grade so you better know the material on the test day, cuz the tests are Everything. Pretty funny guy too, keeps class entertaining. I had him for 120 summer term and aced the class.

By far the best math teacher vie had. Has good examples on how to explain a problem. Attend class or you'll be behind unless you ask him personally won't email back. Enjoyed his class and didn't really mind having to wake up and go to math class.

He is awesome!! Take 150 with him! Keep all your tests cause those are your study guide for the final! He has great office hours and is super understanding! You have to work hard in his class but the work and what he asks of his students isn't unreasonable.

I suck at math. Its the only reason Im still at MCC. Pike is the only teacher I will take. He's that good. Not much in the way of helpful outside of class when you struggle as much as I do, but the best instructor available at MCC.

SCOTT Was a good teacher, If you do all your homework and see him often during his office hours you will be just fine. If you dont go see him at all he would assume you dont care and grade your homework and test a little bit better than the rest of the people that took the time to see him. Had F then went to a B when I started seeing him.

HE is amazing... go to class! he has exaclty one way of doing things which in math is great, cuz i hate when i have to learn different ways for different problems! Everything is exactly the same... he is really nice, doesnt embarrass you if you have questions. PLEASE TAKE him you wont regret it!

I withdrew from his class twice for personal reasons but he is a stand up guy. He looks like a white Obama. Ha, and he is real too. I mean, his jokes and mannerisms are not campy and silly like most professors. He is a funny chap, he grades very fair. But start to slack off, he wont give you the time of day. fair enough.

Great teacher and as long as you attend class you will do well. He explains everything so well and don't be afraid to ask questions. Do the homework and study guides and you will do well on the test. There are no surprises and he makes the class fun.

He is AMAZING! This was my second time taking Math 122 and I got an A+ in the class. He is so clear and funny and sooo approachable. Do the homework and the practice tests and you will do FINE! I would take him for every Math class if I could!

He really takes his time explaining the material and is available to ask questions outside of class. He doesn't use the textbook for homework and what he uses is way better anyway and he really prepares you for tests.

Mr. Pike never once used the textbook in this class, don't bother buying it. He did provide excellent instruction and made all of the concepts clear and understandable. If you do all of your homework then the tests should be easy and you should find yourself with an A. If you don't, well, you've only yourself to blame.

Scott Pike is the best math teacher I have ever had, I took 122 once before and dropped because I just didnt get it. But this class is a 100% turn around. He is so funny and easy to work with. He makes the class enjoyable and turns difficult concepts into something very easy to grasp. He rlly knows what he is doing and NO TEXTBOOK! TAKE HIS CLASS!!

This was a online winter intersession class fyi. The online notes were excellent, 3 open book tests and a closed book Final with NO graphing calculator allowed. Only met Prof. Pike 1 time at the final exam which was on campus. This is a challenging class due to the time (3.5 weeks) but Prof. Pike made it possible.

Prof Pike was by far the best math teacher I have ever had. I took this class online and he was still so much help. If I had a question all I had to do was call him and he helped me over the phone, if he couldn't he was always open for appointments. Highly recommend you take his class!

I took his class online. It isn't to bad but you must put in the time to understand the information. Tests were much more difficult then the homework, but her supplies online notes rather than using the book which were really helpful.

He is seriously one of the best math teachers I have ever had. He doesn't use a book, so don't bother on getting one and make sure you have the quadratic formula memorized because you'll be using that a lot.

If your looking for a class that will teach you what you need to know and easy ways to do it then Scott Pike is the right teacher. Just be aware that he is a very strict teacher. He occasionally might take school rule a bit too far. But as for mathematics he is unbelievably intelligent and will teach you what you need to know.

If you are looking for a class that will help you understand math if you put the time into it, then this is your class. Scott is so helpful and uses humor to teach. You must complete your homework assignments but it then helps you to prepare for the test. I strongly suggest doing the practice test, he is great!!

I took his online class and it was pretty easy though there was hours upon hours of hw. The only negative thing I have to say is that whether you pass or fail is completely contingent upon the final. I had an A the whole class but am a horrible test taker and failed the final therefore failed the class.

Went from a D student to an A. Had to retake because it is a prerequisite. Funny, Smart makes math easy (hence, the chilli). Do the homeworks, do not fall behind, and you WILL do good. Lot's of common sense. And quadratic equation is your best friend. The only reason to fail is because you did not try. As he would say... slacker...

Let's just say, in order: hot, smart, easy to undersand, easy on the eyes, extremely fair, funny, keeps math interesting.

I've had Pike for two semesters now going on three. He is the best math teacher I ever had. I use to struggle in math in highschool but he definitely flipped things around for me. There is no book required. Just do the homework and study guides for the tests and you will be in great shape.

Best professor i've had. He has precise ways of explaining concepts and problems and if you listen and apply yourself, you will do well. He's not very lenient on late work, but if you put forth the effort and complete your assignments you will enjoy his class. he rewards hard work. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND.

I am not a math person, but Scott had my interest! He goes over things you need to know, and doesn't reacquire a book. If you're going to take his class; be ready to put in work, but honestly he is willing to work with you if you take the time to do so. Great math teacher, I would recommend him to anyone!

Pike is pretty cool. I did get a first bad impression of him, but he's not bad at all. You might need a sense of humor or a little bit of thick skin but he doesn't mean any harm. He's actually very helpful and his assignments are too. His grading is fair and the assignments actually help. He even lets you correct your HW before the due date!

Pike is BY FAR the best math professor I have had at MCC, his examples are clear and the way he teaches in excellent, He keeps his offices hours workable and makes sure you understand why you received the grade you sis on homework and tests. I hated math until Pike, now I understand it way better. I strongly recommend his class! 092 and up!

BEST MATH TEACHER! Mr. Pike was by far my favorite professor in college or any school for that matter. He knows his stuff. A strict teacher but in a god way. Don't be intimidated by him the first day (some people dropped him after the first day) but you would be doing yourself a disfavor. You will learn a lot GUARANTEED!

Honestly the greatest math teacher I've ever had. He can be kind of intimidating and he made me feel real stupid a couple times, but it's all worth it cause he explains things SO WELL! Go to class, soak in the lecture, work on the homework right after (when it's still fresh in your mind), and you will be golden.

If you need to take a math class at MCC, TAKE HIS CLASS. He doesn't use a textbook and as long as you write down the examples used in class, your notebook just becomes your go to. He gives you plenty of time to bring your hmwk and have it checked and worked on so you get a higher score. I hate math and the first A I got in Math was in his class :)

very fast paced class, but pike gives homework sheets that only have around 25 questions. They can be very complex questions. He has 3 tutors, use them!!! Do not go to the tutoring center, they will confuse you worse, and almost always lead me to the wrong answers on homework. Tests are much like the homework. i tested out of this class in 7 weeks.

Pike is the BEST math teacher I have ever had. He actually TEACHES you. Be to class on time, get ready to take notes and LEARN how to do math in a way that makes sense. He doesn't require a text book which is a great money saver. He is incredibly organized and you always know when you have homework and tests. You will be prepared for 150!

Course is completely open from day one and you are welcome to work ahead. This allows you to work quickly through the stuff I understood and take extra time on the stuff that was hard. Gives plenty of reminders before assignments and test are due. Assignments are through MyMathLab so you can redo all problems until you get 100%

I loved this teacher! I have struggled with math my whole life but he is great at breaking it down and simplifying it. He has his own methods that make it all so much easier. Pike changed my view on math overall. He knows this subject so well he shows you easier ways to fit your own technique. I had him for 3 semesters and never missed a lecture because his notes are so detailed oriented. Lectures are awesome and let's everyone speak. Participation is always wanted. As long as you show up to class and re-do homework assignments over and over you will do great. One year I even got 100% on a final. He definitley makes you work for your grade but that's how all classes should be.

Thought this was a fairly easy class. Loved being able to work ahead. The only thing that made me nervous was the final. Had to be in person, no notes, not multiple choice and worth 40% of your grade. Didn't matter if you had an A all semester, if you didn't get at least a 60% on it, you failed. I got a 98% so did better than expected.

Was very easy to follow along with. If you miss a class however, you will be thrown off and not know what is going on the next day. He moves through lessons fast, but its not that hard of a class.

I took Pike for 122, hadn't had a math class in over 10 years. His way of explaining concepts makes you understand math. Without a doubt an amazing teacher. Be in class, take notes, and take advantage of the tutors and extra credit.

I took Mr. Pike for both 120 and 150 and I am enrolled in his Trig class too. If you show up to class, and do all of the homework you will pass. He has great TA's each semester to check your homework before you actually ha turn it in. If you take advantage of that, you will definitely pass the class.

Scott Pike is a good teacher but can be kind of rude. He makes a lot jokes, although they're not funny. Anyway, do all the hw and practice tests and get them checked by his tutors. Take detailed notes and you'll do fine.

At first he came off as sarcastic and rude, but as the semester went on he loosened up and became much more personable - so don't drop out if you don't like him at first. He teaches very clearly and he really does care about the success of his students - although he certainly doesn't go easy on them. HIGHLY recommended.

Scott is a hell of a teacher. I hate math, and always will. He pushed me into the grade that I earned. I was not given anything, nor was I held back. You will be graded with what you work towards. If he gives you a nickname do not be offended, it means that you have done something to make him interested in you. Participate, and pay attention.

A good teacher for someone who is not terrible at math like I am. The problem was, missing a class makes it very difficult to catch up if you're just barely keeping up as it is. However, he is skilled, smart, and funny, so if you're someone who understands these strange symbols and sequences then I would rate him well.

1st math class in 14 years, and I was terrified. But Pike gives you everything you need to succeed: TA's there all the time, specific office hours, checks your hw AND gives extra credit when he does, practice test for extra credit... I've never cried so much over a class OR felt so proud of a final grade. He's amazing. Totally recommend him.

This is a tough class but pike is experienced and he knows how to teach it. His lectures are clear. Lots of HW but it's only graded on completion. Quizzes have multiple attempts. I studied really hard for every test/quiz, did all the hw plus more practice problems, and attended every lecture but one or two and I did just fine, B+ Take him for calc!

Anyone who says Mr. Pike is not an excellent teacher stands no chance in any further formal mathematics. Plain and simple. I took him for both Algebra and Trig (same semester) after dropping an unnecessarily difficult Pre-Calculus. I am now a computer engineering student with a 3.75 gpa and finished Calc III, linear algebra and diffEq with an A+ .

Best math teacher I've ever had. Have taken 3 classes w/ him. Will work with you if he sees you are putting in the effort. Will find ways to explain it until you understand if you ask. Will be taking his Calculus class as well. No other professor will do.

Other than a rather off-putting sense of humor, this guy is amazing. If you struggle with math at all, this is the teacher that will help you. Lots of homework (and do it ALL!) but he will grade it and you can fix it and turn it in again - tests are easier than homework. Just pay attention, take clear notes and you will pass with flying colors.

Okay, If you are taking MAT120, he will not make you buy a book. You come to class everyday, take notes and get a quick review, he explains everything WITHOUT a TEXTBOOK or YOUTUBE. None of the work is online, he is always available to help students, and he is HILARIOUS! I always failed math glasses, he made it simple, easy, and fun to do. Got a B!

Pike may seem like a tough guy (and I'm sure he is) but, he wants to see you succeed. I took his MAT120, 150, 182, and 220 classes because he was the only teacher that actually helped me understand Math. Do yourself a favor and take Pike's classes if you need Math to pass/get your degree. P.S. The book he uses ends up being free. Save $$$!

Scott is awesome, he walks you by everything and actually explains the formulas. He grades based on how you sloved the problem not just the answer which is great. He gives about 2 to 3 days to let you finish homework assignments. He is hilarious and cares for all his students. If you cant take a joke or are easily offended dont take his class.

He won't hold your hand and tell you its going to be ok. Will he laugh or make a joke at you based on a math mistake, maybe. You should laugh too, its funny. You don't have to buy a book and the guy is consistent. Lots of notes on his website, too. I never get A's in math and I worked hard for mine this year. Put in the work & be resourceful.

Although he can be a "PIG" he clearly says what he wants you to learn. Makes it easy (in class) to understand basic concepts. I would only suggest taking said class if you are willing to put the time in and can really pay attention. He will make you understand that not everything you can do on your own. Go to classmates not the professor for advise

I don't know what these other posts are about because He has office hours before every assignment and allows extra credit if you get it graded by him early. He wants you to understand math and isn't going to baby you, this is college! Great teacher and will be taking him again

I've had Pike for 120, 150, 187 and currently enrolled in 220 with him. He's very particular about the way he goes about things, but I promise you that as long as the effort is there you will do more than pass. Study guides and homework are a must because they are a preview of your test (hint hint). Ultimately nothing is handed to you. Take him!

Took him for MAT121 he was a great teacher you have to be there because he goes over new material almost everyday. I enjoyed his class and i would take another class that he teaches.

Pike is such a funny instructor. He gives you the opportunity to receive extra credit by going to his office hours and getting the homework check. He explains everything very well and likes to joke around in class a lot. Sad he doesnt teach 140 or 141.

Professor Pike is an awesome math teacher. No textbook, notes in class. The more effort you put in, the better your grade will be. Reccomend seeing him during office hours for help, not tutors. Doesn't care about attendance but grade will suffer not showing up. Little homework, but must apply yourself! Don't think you can skate by in this course.

Pretty funny guy! Attendence isnt really required, if you want to pass I suggest you go every day. Okay amount of work in the course! There were only 24 assignments and extra credit practice tests for every single one of the seven exams. Plenty of time to do each assignment if you plan accordingly.

As long as you're there everyday w/ your homework ready & take good notes you should pass unless you're not very good at math but he has office hours for tutoring & 3 tutors for his classes that you can go to. I love this teacher because he is really simple, he doesn't use MyMathLab or any textbooks, all you need is a calculator, paper & a pencil.

He tells you like it is. He is tough but he is a great teacher. Don't miss a class or you'll fall behind. He will go fast if he thinks everyone is getting it. If you don't speak up for help then you'll fall behind fast. Office ours are a great way to ask him questions and get help. He gives a lot of useful notes in class and on his website.

Math isn't a subject that comes easily for most people, so this class is understandable difficult. Professor Pike moves at a very fast pace, gives lots of homework and can come off as really sarcastic and negative. However, he is always willing to help you, and will be kind if you show that you put in work and visit him during his office hours.

I took Pike for 3 courses & I can say he is a great professor! Although the material can be difficult, if you take advantage of office hours & the tutors he provides, he will respect you more. He doesn't require a textbook either! Don't skip class, get your homework checked before you turn it in. Ask questions & take good notes and you'll do well!!

Professor Pike explains material in class very well, but gives a lot of homework. His grading is also a bit confusing. He also gives a lot of chances for extra credit. STUDY STUDY STUDY FOR THE TESTS OR YOU WILL NOT PASS. The tests are wighted much more than homework, so do the extra credit. He is a good fun professor.

He's awesome. Took him for three semesters and would have taken him for calc but I moved. He's funny but you won't get every joke and reference. A lot of people complain about him but he is really will help you every chance he gets. Pike if you ever read these, Thank you. Honestly you made me enjoy math.

Pike is one of those very honest teachers. You know what you are getting into from day one. I took him for trig and Calc 1 and I would have for sure taken him for Calc 2 if he taught it. Do not expect this to be an easy class because it's a difficult math level but Pike knows what he is doing. Take him if you have the chance!

I took Pike's class a few years ago and still to this day, he was one of my favorite teachers. He was so funny and really made me learn to love math. He offered awesome tutoring, so that what he taught and what the tutors taught were consistent. Lots of extra credit. He stood up for me the next semester and made sure I had a seat in a full class.

Pike is the best math professor I've ever had at MCC! Yes, he comes across as cold and intimidiating, but he can also be funny and caring if you are willing to put the effort in. Lots of opporitunities for extra credit, no textbook necessary, and he will check your homework for mistakes before it's even due. I had him for math150,182, and now 220.

Pike reminds me of that elementary school PE teacher everyone loved. He is hilarious and uses sarcasm frequently. He really does care about his students and wants you to succeed. He is pretty strict but it definitely kept me accountable. With his lectures he gives tons of examples which is important especially for math. Loved the guy!

This class was by far the hardest I have ever taken at MCC. However, dont be intimidated by this. He is fair and was available during office hours. DO THE HW!! He will check hw and if you have something wrong then you can correct it for points. If you still get the question wrong again, he will guide you through. Just put the work in this class.

Professor Pike is one of the best math teachers I've had, if you put in the work; he WILL help you. His sarcasm is hilarious, but if you're sensitive don't take his class. I appreciated how much time he took in helping me understand the material, he is a fair grader; you definitely have to earn all your points. I recommend!

Mr. Pike is the best math teacher I have ever had. He explains everything so well. He breaks everything down and he shows his way, not the books way. His way is sooo much easier. You do have to do your work and follow instructions, otherwise you will have it rough. He doesn't put up with BS. Put in the effort and you will be fine.

He was amazing. I really struggle with math and I don't think I would have passed with another professor. He offers extra credit and is there if you need help outside of class. He teaches in a way that makes math understandable. 10/10 would recommend. Seriously awesome professor.

If you have the chance to take Mr. Pike's class do it. He's intense, funny, and extremely knowledgeable on the subject and he will work with you if you ask for help. I sucked at math, but his supporting documents for the class in addition to the textbook and explanations improved my algebra, trig, and calculus. The caveat, DO NOT MISS CLASS.

Absolutely the best Professor I have ever had in my academic life. It has been the only class I have been excited to attend and hated being even a minute late. Very fast paced and gotta keep up with the notes and class, but he really is so willing to give you all the resources for you to get an A, even if you start with a low grade

He is one of my favorite math professors. If you are willing to put in the work he will help you every step of the way. He gives very good feedback and gives you plenty of time to check your work before you turn it in. As long as you are willing to put in time he will guide you towards an A. I would highly recommend taking him!

Excellent professor, and an honest and fair grader. Offers a lot of practice problems. Tests and finals are graded heavily. Have fun in your retirement!
