sucks!
His teaching methods are terrible! Give us more examples please!
Nice, funny guy, but stats doesn't have to be this difficult.
Nice guy. Very vague in teaching.
stats is tuff (it's not Scott) take 301 1st, take fewer classes, STUDY!
fun teacher - but wish lectures more about the textbook than himself.
great all round teacher.....stats should always be this easy
No Comments
great guy, but text shouldn't be his so that we have secondary learning tool
This guy is great! If you don't agree, well, the data suggests you suck!
easy tests, fun class. take his 100 class. he is the best
Worst teacher I've ever had. Rarely discusses anything at all statistically significant and is the most offensive and politcally incorrect so-called professor I've ever come across.
He doesn't mention a single thing from the book and he goes on and on about his own stuff. I wouldn't reccomend this prof to anyone.
subject is so damm hard. confusing even though i passed, he's not a great teacher. his topics totally not related to class. who cares about his life!
man off topic,i flunk the course told us that it takes special skill to flunk his course, well half the class failed and i did well on my other courses.the conclusion? : It's him who is not teching well enough
welll...if u can choose another, go and find another instructor. for someone who is going to take his psyc stats class, i wish u good luck. his explanation sucks. if u want to ask him to clarify some consept, he will make u more confused than before.
this class so damm hard. i mean really hard. if you have to choose between this class and anoter go for the other. he missed so many classes that all the students were lost. half the class failed.
One of the most gleefully unhelpful people I've ever come across. Uses his classes to rant and vent about the world and his life, rarely teaches, and just says that his stories are somehow statistically significant to try and appear like he's teaching.
Unique approach to teaching; he doesn't just go by the text, which is what a lot of pple seem to want (spoon feeding! sheesh!).
Too many people complain about this otherwise simple course. I felt he was a great teacher, and was hotter than most males.
I was lucky I passed the course. Had to take it a second time after dropping out the first time. And if your bad at Math, I'll tell you to pray. Lectures were all over the place. The material itself is extremely hard. Very high failure rate.
as far as im concerned, im looking to take Psych 300 elswear
Horrible, hated him.
I got a B in the course, and i didn't have math 12. First half of the semester i whined and complained about Scott, then i decided to read the text, and ended up doing well. You can do okay if you dont listen to everybody whining and actually study.

It seems to be the norm to criticize Dr. Wilson. I have heard many complaints and now see why students speak negatively about a professor; because they don't understand the concepts of the course. It's a difficult course to teach and he deserves credit!
Don't need to know math for PSYCH 300. Make friends early and get a study group once a week and MAYBE you'll get C. Don't expect Wilson or the psych lab people (Gerry + Melissa) to help you at all. Don't waste time going to class, learn it on your own.
As foar as I am concerned, considering the material, Scott does as good a job, if not better, than anyone possible could. Let's face it, the course is hard, and he has 4 hours a week to teach it. He' great guy. The key is doing homework, rest is gravy!
for those who think they are smart, this is a course for dump people... only those dump ones could get an A... those smart ones could only get a C or C-.
very good teacher when it comes to material but needs to give out more notes and make his tests eaiser
Scott is very nice. I felt so sorry for him because people complained about him being too hard. Stats is like a different language, definatly - read the book! Take notes from Scott and the book! He gives everyone lots give-away marks.
Don't need math.Tests are hard.I wonder why he is teaching (shld just do his psych practice), doesn't care about students, doesn't return phone calls.Wastes time telling stories in class and always ends class early.Doesn't teach!
SCARY!!! I dread this class. Dr. Wilson seems like an interesting person...learned a lot about Martha Stewart and Britney Spears....didn't learn a thing from his class about stats...except flailing from the text alone, sucks. Avoid if you can!
NO offence, but he can't teach NO MATTER WHAT U READ! Let me tell you the failing and drop out rate in this class has a higher PROBABILITY (is that even the right term...dont't know didnt learn anything)then the entire college....B ware!
Not bad but needs to explain more..talks about Britney Spears alot
Does not appear to enjoy his job. Does not reply to e-mails nor return phone calls. I never learned anything in class. If it had not been for the 2-pointer surprise quizes, I would have not bothered to go to class. Learned everything on my own.
You are on your own in this course. Scott does not seem to be too interested in knowing any of his students. Too bad if you need something clarified,(and in this course you do!) A great relief when the course is finally over.
textbook reading is important when taking his class, he is funny and make every lecture interesting. although the MC tests were hard, but they are helpful for you to know the concepts instead of plain calculations.
very entertaining, as long as you read the text, you will do fine. he is generous and gives away points,do the work and u will get the marks.
He is funny but you got to read the text yourself and study very hard. but he gives out attendence and bonus points!
His undying love for Martha Stewart is kinda amusing, but either than that this guy is horrible! I've grown to hate his outgoing attitude b/c he has RUINED psychology for me! He doesn't teach ANYTHING. And the book DOESN'T help as much cause his tests are so broad, short, and useless. Stay away!
Very funny guy, hard exams. Expects you to know all stuff in textbook whether covered in class or not. Has an obsession with Martha Stewart and his old teacher, Mrs. Moffat. I'd prob. have him again, but for a different course, wouldn't recommend for psyc 1100, should get a more descriptive prof.
Nice guy, funny and amusing in-class stories. Makes you consider his sanity. Unfortunately, most of class is used up preaching about life. If you have not taken PSYCH before (which I have), do not take his class, or you will be lost, and his tests are quite hard. Talk to him to reveal friendliness.
Funny guy...I failed 2 tests in this class but got a B due to one essay. Can't complain.
I liked him a lot. I found him very approachable, and I felt that he really cared about his students. The class is hard if you don't keep up. You pretty much have to attend every class
YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN GUYS! Sit next to someone smart if you can. Scott doesn't teach anything. He expects you just read the chapter and know the stuff no problem. His jokes are cute and funny but they are not helping me learn the math.
his class is difficult be he keeps u awake with his humour
Scott is useless, has no teaching style and never returns calls or shows up for office hours: extremely annoying when you need help. His comments like your stupid if you don't know this stuff are uncalled for. Can't figure out why he is still teaching, the only good thing: he lets you out early.
Worst teacher I've had. I skipped half his classes and still manage to pull a B-, 3/4 exams are multiple choice and I remember almost nothing of what he taught with his chicken scratch writing on the board. He keeps telling students "if you don't get this, don't go to the final exam" nice enthusiasm
This is a hard class and the teacher won't help you if need it. Overall this was a BAD experience. But he does have a good sense of humor. Scott should be a stand up comedian not a teacher.
What a blowhard. He meanders about meaninglessly, teaching nothing, then requires perfect recollection on tests. Terrible. He also insults the patients that he's worked with over the years, calling them 'wackos' and the like. Very professional. Mind-buggeringly boring lectures. By the end, I knew more about his life than about psychology.
I found Scott to be the most adorable teacher at douglas. He is funny, well read, and can tell real life stories like to one else. He is empathetic, a good listener, and really good looking. Scott has a solid understand regarding stats and doesn't intimidate the knowledge against the students, but keeps the encouragement going. Very patient, ex
Scott Wilson was one of the worst teachers I've ever had. He has a great personality and is very funny but unfortunately his teaching style is awful. I taught statistics to myself thru the text..Very Hard! He talks about celebrities and his life the whole class and his lectures are all over the place. I do not recommend him at all for statistics
HE SUCKS!!!!!! don't take him. He doesn't teach anything. you have to teach yourself in this class. He is useless.
I hated this class. Wilson is a great and funny guy, but he didn't teach anything. You have to teach yourself with the text and his tests were pretty hard.
A great psych teacher. He's funny and easy to talk to. However, keep up with the work or you'll get a bad mark. His class is not hard and is an easy B if you do just the readings and attend his lectures.
Do Not Take him. He does not teach any stats in the class. He just wants to get his life and his wife stories off his chest. The poor students who pay a fortune to come to school and learn? Good Luck. If you enjoy an informative lecture, dont take him. I bought the book, and I taught myself the chapters.
If you can avoid it...DO NOT take his class. He is the worst teacher I have ever had. He does not teach anything that is on the test and all he talks about are his life stories. You have to teach yourself the material to do well in the class! BAD!!
Do not ever take this teacher for any reason. Classes are boring and from what I heared from several other students, they took f's just to get out of it. Our tuition dollars should go to someone better equipped to teach and this one's a waste of money. Buy a text book instead. Use a studyguide as thats where the tests are from, with no effort!
boy do i ever wish i had checked this site BEFORE spending $300 to listen to this guy up on his horse blabbering about his wife and his nice car and all the 'jerks' and wackos that he comes across. i really wish there was a way to make a formal complaint because i have never felt so ripped off in my life.
Nice guy, not a good teacher though. If you take this class, be prepared to teach yourself. Make good use of the study guide as the test questions all come out of this. Tests are multiple choice, and you don't get them back after to see which questions you got wrong. He's a nice guy, but better suited to be working in the clinic than the class.
Scott is one of the best teachers I have ever had. Whenever I needed help he was there. Always returned emails and phone calls. Yes, he does talk alot about real life stuff BUT if you actualy pay attention it all relates to psychology. If you want to get a good mark and if you are willing to work hard this is the proff for you.
spends lecture time talking about how he met his wife, DOES NOT TEACH (expects u to come to lecture with all the info already in ur head), his m/c exams are killer cuz its 7 or 8 choices and half of them are like "a, c, d", "b and d only", "none of the above" etc. but if ur really motivated to teach urself u'll do well, DO NOT MISS CLASS
WOW, people are too hard on poor Scott! He's a good prof. He talks a lot about random crap but it keeps the class interested. If he rambled on about hypothesis testing for 2 hours straight everyone would be crying. If you need the help, he is there. If you are terrified of stats, take Rodwell, but otherwise Scott is great. The text is a must.

i completely understand some of the angry comments, he DOES talk about Paris Hilton extensively... BUT class was fun, with lots of discussion, a nice break from scribbling frantically to take down notes. the textbook is your BIBLE. study from it and you'll do great.
i think his teaching method is more personal and enjoyable. he doesn't vomit the text book instead he explains things using his personal experience. i enjoyed his class.

i thought gonna love the guy, but if i not gonna pass, will hate him :)

Hey, it's easy for U to have fun in Psy 110/120 but 2300 it's completely different story:) not just talking and laughing, but still Scott was great, and i got Okey mark, I love him wholehartedly, and wish all the best, he's a great prof. and the person!!!! H. recommended, but not for a student below average !
He is one of the best prof's I've ever had. He definately knows his stuff. The way he teaches the course is not for you to memorize a million things, but to conceptualize it and really understand it inside and out. If you come to class and pay attention, then it makes the course a lot easier than by just reading the text.
he's a really good psych professor. just read ur notes and be prepared you'll be fine.
DONT TAKE THIS PROF! Yah he is knowledgable but he hangs out and socializes in class..ITS not a class. He talks about paris hilton and cell phones. I had to take this class over again! TAKE IT WITH ANNE MACGREGOR SHES AWESOME! I got an A in her class!

This is an easy corse if you need a stats credit!. The teacher has three tests with one small one. The first test has NO working out equations only comprehensive questions. The 2nd and 3rd have like 3 questions each were actual math this involved. I failed stats but got a c+ with scott..recomended!!
Scot?s lectures are insightful, however they are not directly related to the chapter tests. To prepare you MUST use the study guide.Half your mark will be derived from a term paper, in class essay, participation, and bonus points all of which are easy A's. An A+ is very possible if you figure out Scott?s teaching style early.Excellent class!!
Nap time egocentric lectures that may skim text content. Reading the book is required to get a good grade. Test questions are taken from study guide and expanded on in a conceptual style if M/C. Overall challenging course/professor.
Stats is not anyones favorite class, I think there are two options when picking your prof: a) try and find one that will bore you to tears but spend the entire time teaching you stats or, b) take Scott's class and have a fun time but make the text your teacher and be prepared with questions every class. It's hard, but I prefer Scott.
It is not an easy class and also not always very interesting, but I still recommend Scott. He is kind of fun. Also many Psych labs are included (to cut a sheep brain is really fun). Just read the book and make the MC questions in the Study guide and you will do ok. The written test and thepresentation help to bring up your grade.
He is a good teacher; however, he talks a lot about other stuff that has a very little connection about the class lecture. He summarizes most of the chapter which is easy to understand but textbook is mandatory to further understand the material. He is sometimes funny. He is very helpful if you need further assistance with understanding the topic.
If you have the time to read the textbook, then you'll do fine. Wilson is not out to get you, but he does require you to daily review the textbook and his notes.
Likes to talk about himself and does minimal coverage of the book while expecting students to know it from beginning to end
Scott is a funny teacher. Lectures are not that useful, but are pretty funny most of the time. Tests are hard, most of the class failed every test. Poster, attendance, long answer test and project will really bump your mark. Study from the end of chapter objectives for tests. I would take psych with him again!!!
waste of time and effort. Almost everyone bombs his tests.
I pitty the fool that takes this course! no seriously.. his tests are ridiculously hard and basically no one passes. Give yourself and your GPA a break and find a better prof
Lectures usually don't have much to do with the test. Does not respond to emails. The tests are doable though, and the written exam and projects will get you marks, although you're not getting an A.
This class will destroy your GPA, your confidence, and your love for psychology.
very funny man. spends alot of time and focus on lecture notes, but is not particularly helpful towards the exams. exams were all mc and pretty difficult. there is a written exam and quite a few ppl aced it. fast marker, very humourous man, but not very helpful towards your GPA.
Entertaining class. Very passionate about his field, and current research. Horrible Powerpoints, and some poorly worded test questions. He needs someone to edit his Powerpoints, and test questions BIG TIME. Having said that, I would definitely take another class with him. Engaging teaching style, and very approachable for extra help.
Scott is full of humour, he brings a different flavour to class every week. Pay attention in class, study for the exam and you will do fine. Scott likes to give out extra bonus marks during lecture so make sure you attend. These bonus marks can really boost your grade in class.
This professor does not teach the textbook (which is what he tests on). Honestly, there is no point in going to class because his lectures are boring and not useful at all. What he talks about in his lecture is Two and a Half Men, a show on tv. Such a boring class!
Lectures are engaging and fun, he uses them to enforce the text book which you have to read on your own. Tests are super easy. Great Prof!
Classes are enjoyable. I got an A. I would recommend him anyday.
I would recommend him anyday.Dr. Wilson is enthusiastic and energetic. Classes are enjoyable. i got an A.
You will have to read the chapters and his notes for the tests. If you this it will be straight forward. The poster project is easy. You get the full mark for it being completed and if it's in the top 3 you get bonus marks. There is also an APA style essay to do on the project. In the meantime his classes ROCK!!!
very chill and approachable man, talks about personal past experiences, reads over lecture notes, fast marker. there is one written essay question and a term project, but its very straight forward.
Great Instructor, hard class, he does great at breaking the material down so its better to manage. He will take time to help you but you have to work " very " hard to learn the material, he will not accept slackers. He is funny and makes the class not so dry. Put all you got in this class and you will pass.
Such a hilarious teacher. Powerpoints are not based from text, while exams are mostly based on text. Gives a lot of assignments compared to the other instructors, but totally worth it if u accomplish them well.
Honestly, he is very well read and it shows based on how he teaches the class. He is very approachable and uses current events to back up class lectures. All tests are M/C and he asks for 1 written/essay question. Word of advice is to read the textbook, review his notes and ask questions.
super nice. really funny you will lough every class. He forces you to learn. tells you what u need to study. he is the only prof i had in which i felt like they cared about the class & my personal learning. i went in hating this class and now it is my favorite subject. Don't study & you will fail. Extra effort is needed get good grades.
He doesn't give too many examples, but the ones he does study them and understand them and your good to go. And read text book, and do examples from it. Exams are fair but tough. Have to make sure you understand concepts!
tough exam but easy marker, Can get a A if you really study. To slackers he may be the worst teacher ever. But to hard-work student, he is a great teacher with konwledge and patience. Bonus will be given, will give a high mark on your project and paper if he sees you are really hard working. His lecture is interesting and make everybody laugh.
He is a great teacher very helful and entertaining. He does not give up until you get it completley. He gives bonus marks and wants you to succed. Had him for both 1100 &2300 and he is the best you can tell he loves teaching. As long as you try you will do really well in his class.
Funny guy, but gets off topic a lot. Read the textbook and study everything on his slides. He makes the course hard, and the tests are tough. Would not take another class with him.
He is a nice guy, but he does not make use of class time effectively. He likes to ramble and he goes off topic. His lectures aren't as rehearsed as the other profs, but he does give decent examples on the board. Overall, I found his class to be disorganized for my liking and you have to teach yourself most of the time. Really nice guy though.
Scott is a great guy and very nice, but he is not good at teaching. He constantly rambles, his lectures feel unimportant and if they are missed you don't really lose out on anything. This course was mostly self-taught from the textbook and the material is extremely dry. I don't recommend that you take this class OR this prof.
I think hes great. funny, smart helpful and he cares about your grade.Gives opportunities for bonus marks (15% this sem) and helps you understand the dry material. He gives you cheat sheets for tests so you know what to study. All tests mc, and the questions are doable. Im not a math student at all,but im doing best i ever did.
Nice lecturer, funny, actually teaches in between life stories and jokes. Pay attention. Doesn't scale but gives out easy homework and bonus marks. Textbook definitely required. Scored under my expectations (hate math concepts) for most classes but still would recommend.
very hard to understand, confusing when lectures, assumes you already know material and will say make sure you know "that" what is that....
Gets off track a lot, not good at getting back to emails, but very good at going over waht is need for exams.
Good teacher, got offtrack when lecturing but always made sure to tell us what we needed to know. Had to use the textbook a lot, we were responsible for knowing everything in it for the tests. The tests were short and to the point, and not very difficult. Keep up with studying and it isnt that bad.
If you want to understand statistics and receive a decent mark….then do not take his class. Class average after 2nd exam was 55%. He is not helpful and expects students to read the book and teach themselves, lectures are NOT useful for learning.
An excellent and charismatic lecturer who does pepper his powerpoint comments with memorable anecdotes. Put in the time to read chapters and take notes and do quick reviews and you'll shine in class; the tests in 1100 are NOT hard, despite what others say. Quizzes are easy marked MC and he'll tell you exactly what proportion is from lecture vs text
Great professor, if you ever have trouble with understanding material, he will always make it easy to understand. Plus statistics is not an easy concept, but he makes it enjoyable with his humor. No one wants to hear about numbers all class, so his stories are definitely needed!
Oh Dr. Wilson.... he's one of the funniest profs I've ever had, but the course essentially felt self-taught. He definitely likes to tell unrelated stories. Super nice guy, but if you don't have a natural ability with stats be prepared to put in the effort to get a good grade.
This teacher is an amazing statistician, and only that. He sucks at teaching, 1st test (out of 31 students) 21 failed, 2nd test same, 3rd test 27 out of 31 students failed. He is insanely tough and only does the math part in class, everything else he grades you on is tested, class average is a D-, the course is self taught, take at your own risk.
Tests are so so easy. But he gives his students like 5% bonus marks for a easy project that took me 5 minutes. do that you will do well
Pros -He's an easy marker. -Gives out tons of extra credit. -Labs are pretty interesting and fun. -Hilarious -Slides are online accessible Cons -Test is pretty tough (gotta know your stuff inside out.) -Rambles quite a bit. As long as you attend the class and read the chapters you should do fine. It's a pretty easy class to pass.
Attendance is mandatory because you must be there to receive assignments that are randomly assigned.
You have to attend class solely to obtain homework assignments, which are handed out at the end of every class. You basically have to teach yourself everything. Hopefully you did well in your past stats classes...
Gets off topic really easily, tests aren't anything like lectures or even really like the textbook
Scott is very funny and likeable, but he didn't even attempt to learn our names which bothered me a little. His lectures are ok, he goes off topic a lot but it is about interesting stuff. The labs are awesome! He gives lots of chances to bump up your grade. I wish he would give somewhat of a study guide because his tests are all over the place
Scott is funny but honestly I pretty much taught myself. Definitely don't take stats with him if you don't want to teach yourself. If you do take a class with him, be prepared to practice and study a lot
Scott is really passionate about Stats and has hilarious stories. However, his lectures give you almost no notes, but show up to get formula handouts as they guide you for study purposes. Read the chapters and take notes off there; this is somewhat of a self-taught course, but as long as you read and get the theories, it's not so bad.
Had this professor for a psych course. He gets off topic very easily and frequently, his slideshows are unclear, his tests are very difficult, and he hardly discusses the criteria for assignments. If you take his class, prepare to teach yourself. Would never recommend.
He wont talk about anything you need to learn and on tests you're going to get the most random questions that have no relation to what you're learning and you will fail.
Get's off topic far too easily, hardly discusses relevant course material and his slides are basically useless. Test questions are hardly relevant or from random side boxes in the textbook. He also won't help you prepare for them so get ready to teach yourself. Worst professor I have ever had, would not recommend to anyone.
He talks a lot about pointless things. I hated this class and it was my first class in post-secondary. Worst experience especially when he talks down to his students. Always thinks he is a self obsessed human being.
took intro to psych with him my first semester and hated it. I later took it with another prof and enjoyed the class so much. his teaching style is very lecture heavy and it was difficult to follow with the text, he seemed to veer away from the text and teach completely different concepts so if you're not taking detailed notes you're probably not
If you decided to take his course, it's better to study by yourself. Honestly I have no idea why he's lecturing, I feel like he's just there to give a grade. Messy PowerPoint, Hard-to-understand lecture. However you're responsible all the text material which is not covered in the lecture. As he mentioned in syllabus, 1/3 of student will struggle
Do not take him for psych stats. Horrible class
Do not take this prof! He begins first 20 minutes of class talking about Donald Trump and/or drugs and his life before teaching. No notes, no power points, only stories of no at life. If you want to learn, do not take his class because you will be learning out of the textbook. Do not take this class
Very easy going guy and easy marker, all tests are multiple choice. If u are just there for a good grade, go ahead. Don't bother learning too much from his lecture though.
honestly all he did was talk about true, his wife and chocolate ice-cream
Lectures are besides the point. Rambles on about other stuff. Extremely disorganized. Reading the course outline is already a challenge with his style. Essentially, you can skip the lectures and rather spend the time by yourself, reading through the book and the explanations he uploads on blackboard. Ignore his talk and read if you wanna do well!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS STAY AWAY... I made an account to let u guys know not to take anything with this teacher. Very exam heavy, lectures are horrible, 4 exams a project and a paper.. Exam questions are very hard , class average now it around 40 percent. Grading criteria makes no sense at all , the class is made to be harder than it has to be .
The class is laid out as if you are a PHD in psychology , takes all the fun out of the content, its as if he thinks students are taking only his class with the amount of work. Currently in 4 classes but it feels like 6 because of this class. Even if you need this teacher to fit your schedule do yourself a favour and stay away
Lectures are very unclear and can be confusing. Tests are based off lecture notes and text book examples.
very sarcastic but HILARIOUS. TAKE HIS CLASS!! Yes, his exams are difficult and he's not the best lecturer. But if you skim through the textbook and get the basic concept before the lecture you will be fine lol. he emphasizes conceptual ideas behind all the calculations. ALOT of bonus quizzes + free marks. He deserves a better rating than this lol
You do need to attend to get a good grade in his class. Hes very helpful if you ask for help. His final exam, he gives the answers to study off!
You NEED the textbook. I found that it was my only way of actually learning the material. I had to teach myself, EVERYTHING. His lectures are very uninformative, he rambles a lot about his own life, that has nothing to do with the course. He doesn't check e-mails. I would not recommend him to anyone. He is a nice person but not a good teacher.
All he talks about is how much he hates Jay-Z and gang bangs. I could've made a drinking game out of it every class no joke. He gives so many tests and the questions don't make sense. I asked for help to bring up my mark, all he said was do assigned work (which was two things), and i still failed. he doesn't care.
Very hard to follow.
If I wanted to learn the textbook on my own I wouldve taken an online course. Lectures are unclear and confusing. If hes going to give 4 exams in one semester at least put in the effort to teach us something.
I didn't even know professors like him existed he is truly the worst prof I've ever seen. You don't need to go to class to learn anything cause all he does is talk about his personal life stories and opinions. Also if you are religious at all be prepared for him to call it ridiculous. Right from the start he tells the class that we r going to fail
Regret not checking rate my prof before registering for his class. Be prepared to read every chapter of the textbook thoroughly because this is a self taught course. His exams are all over the map - the class average of our first exam was 55% and he said that it was a "good average." basically, he doesn't care if you pass or fail.
He spends the entire class talking about himself. Most of his sentences end in "but that's just my humble opinion." You have to read the textbook if you even remotely want to pass it's basically a self-taught class. I swear he's only teaching the class to talk about himself. Find a diff prof this one is terrible.
Be prepared to teach yourself everything, I mean EVERYTHING. His lectures are all over the place. He tells a lot of stories, gets distracted or off topic really easily.
This class is heavily on his slideshows that make no sense. The class average for his exams was around the "C" range and he still told us that it was a good average. He states his opinion a lot and trails off-topic more often than not. This is a self-teaching class but be warned that the content of the textbook is barely on his exams.
DONT TAKE HIS CLASS he is completely useless at actually TEACHING you the information and talks in useless anecdotes for way too long. I had to teach myself this entire course from the textbook and Khan Academy, and in class discussions were the only thing that actually helped, as long as he wasn't part of it. Leaves during exams?
it is true, he is terrible. you don't need to take notes because he posts all of his slides online. you can try to study off of them but they are just pictures and random words with no explanation. for the first exam, I studied his notes and every chapter word for word, and still got 63% on the exam. 85% of the class is at a failing grade rn
Lectures are spotty and he does not provide context to anything. He'll either spend no time on a slide at all, or upwards of 10 minutes because he's gone on a tangent and often doesn't get back on subject for a long time. As a result, it's difficult to know what he expects you to take out of every class which makes tests harder than they need to be
He is passionate about psychology. I learned a lot when taking his class but his slides are not the most clear and are a bit dated. His lectures usually consist of psych topics mixed with his personal life/opinion on things. He is funny and likeable but does not really tell you much in terms of what to study for tests. He says "study everything".
Well, I had him for introductory psychology 1100, oh man was he a gong show. I will never forget how much reading from the textbook i had to do to understand the concepts, just to read the opposite of what we learned on his test. On one hand he is very understanding if you personally speak to him. But overall I would not recommend this professor.
Extremely arrogant and whiny. His lectures can be interesting if you can ignore his repetitive disdain for people leading certain lifestyles. It can get seriously irritating (and I don't even smoke/drink!). He never tells you what topics to focus your studying on, and says "just read your text, all of it". Umm, so helpful I so dont have other work
Half of each class is spent with inane stories that barely relate to the material, and the other half on a slideshow that you have to memorize on top of the textbook material. He doesn't want a demonstration of you understanding the material presented, he wants you to memorize and regurgitate his words.
He's good at explaining the concept, so if that's all u need then he is fine. If u need more structure, then I'd recommend anyone else. He spend a lot of time talking about irrelevant things, which can be very entertaining at times, but after an hour u realize that u haven't learned anything and you'll have to pick up the slack by urself later.
Absolutely horrible. Avoid this prof like the plague. Three hours a week of hearing about how he loves skiing and hates weed. Thanks, but that's not gonna help me memorize the subcortical structures.
If you need a good GPA don't take his class, he regularly brags about failing students. Struggle class. Very educated and smart professor but don't let that fool you - he does not teach in a way students can learn. Will go off on a tangent on crackheads for most of the class. His slides contain almost nothing and what they do contain is minimal.
Had him in my first semester at Douglas, DO NOT TAKE HIM! He is entertaining but spends more time talking about skiing and gangbangers in surrey than psychology itself. You also have to do an experiment and write a research paper on your experiment instead of just writing a research paper like the other psych courses. Get ready for 4 exams as well.
Would not recommend. Basically had to teach myself everything in hopes of being able to pass this course. His slides were not very informative and did not prepare you for tests. His test questions also did not make any sense. Had to re-read the questions at least 4 times before I sort of understood what he was asking. Would not take again 0/10
Did not like his teaching style at all, did not teach us anything! Had to try to learn everything myself. He goes off topic, lectures are disorganized. There are 4 tests, first 3 are cumulative. He said himself he is tough on students who take this class, which is why he gives conceptual based questions. Would not recommend this prof to anyone.
everyone makes him sounds really bad but he's really not.. for his exam study his weird slideshows & read the textbook and he will do pop quizzes and they are just based off his slides. you can literally study for those right before class (he literally tells u what to study) 4 MC exams. yes he gets off track in lectures but its funny.
Honestly don't even bother wasting ur time or money. Powerpoints are a mess that has nothing to do with his "Lab's" pretty much doesn't know how to use technology and should be doing some sort of zoom class instead. he jumped right into psyc like as if we all know what exactly we're learning and as if we have 100% knowledge on everything he said
Poorly worded test questions full of errors
Lectures are unrelated to topics, tests questions are weird. This course is easy as long as you read the text book. Isn't personable or helpful. Responds to questions with one word responses, I get the vibe he thinks all millennials are idiots. Doesn't know how to, or chooses not to utilize blackboard tools. You're on your own if you take him.
please don't take this course with this specific prof. Trust a stranger! DO NOT take this profs course!
Offers extra credit quizzes and reg. homework randomly, not on syllabus. Each test is supposed to be cumulative, yet only test new stuff. Lectures skimpy in # of words and content. Really expects you to "just get it". Syllabus itself only has test dates, nothing more. Avoid as if he didn't even exist, unless you just want him payed for test.
This the most problematic and disturbing teacher I've ever had. His opinions and views on mental health are completely outdated and offensive. He consistently made derogatory comments about people with mental health issues and belittles the struggles addiction. This kind of harmful rhetoric when presented as scientific fact is extremely damaging.
I read the bad reviews and ignored them. He does the bare minimum with the notes and teaching and expects you to get it yourself by revising. Does not teach anything and tests are extremely hard and cumulative. The syllabus only has test dates on it. Gives random assignments with no clear grading criteria or information. This was truly a mistake .
He literally did the bare minimum and I was learning nothing because all his online lectures had voice overs that had nothing to do with the content and instead was just his philosophy on life. The class was awful and boring.
DO NOT TAKE HIM For stats, his tests are soo complicated they stray away from what you actually learn in textbook, its basically self taught course so get ready to read your textbook for hours cut his PowerPoints are horrible! waste of money and time
Scott is an absolute disaster. online lectures were approx. 90 minuets however if we were in person we would have had over 24 hours of lecture. Emailed voicing my concern and was told to just figure it out and read the textbook. Turns out his tests stray far from the textbook with many mistakes and intentionally confusing questions. DO NOT TAKE :(
This was one of if not the worst class I have ever taken. I self taught all the material with the textbook and a tutor. If you learn best via instructor do not take this course. Very minimal material given maybe 5-7 slide powerpoints and no actual instruction. Exams were all conceptual and answers were confusing. If you can avoid I would!
Worst prof ive had in college. posted powerpoints for material but didnt describe anything in them and was often off topic, was unclear about the final and many other aspects of the class. you have to teach everything to yourself. only good thing was the tests were very conceptual so barely did any math/ equasions. RUDE OVER EMAIL
Do NOT take Wilsons class unless you want to watch hours of PowerPoints that dont help on the tests at all.
Do NOT take Wilsons class unless you want to watch hours of PowerPoints that dont help on the tests at all. Have fun listening to: this is painting, it is very beautiful and it looks like a rhino. He seems to get very off topic in all his lectures and wont stop talking about vaping and marijuana. This class was online and wasnt very organized.
DO NOT under ANY circumstances take this course. He belittles those with mental health issues, substance abuse etc. with his outdated views. Online lectures take approximately 4 hours to digest with little to no information. Waste of time and very unprofessional over email. Should not be teaching under any circumstances.
Unprofessional and arrogant. Haphazard course structure, crammed in a single power point slide. No response to emails. Zero effort in clearing doubts. No actual lectures, expects students to rely on textbook and his old lab manual. Mixes and recycles old material in exams, resulting in answer choices that don't make sense. AVOID at all costs.
He is the worst prof I've ever had! Instead of having class, he uploads funny PowerPoints in which he praises himself in every other slide (not joking) and mentions how well-educated he is! If you have the option to take the class with anyone else, do it!
doesnt teach. goes on and on about himself and is very biased when it comes to poc. weird obsession with michelle obama its giving very much racism.
Unclear syllabus, loves to talk about himself, worthless powerpoints, the questions in his exams make little to no sense, and he rambles, rambles and RAMBLES. Honestly, if you dont have any other options for this course then just be prepared to live by the textbook. I still recommend you to attend class so that you don't miss anything.
There are 3 multiple choice test and 1 written test fairly easy. And 1 chapter summary essay. The tests are very weird make sure u understand the basics and take good notes in class cause it will show up on the test. If you study the powerpoints, listen to the lecture and read the text book you will be fine.
To study for the test make sure you read the text book. And do not dwell on knowing the definition word by word. Just learn the basics behind it. And make sure you listen to the powerpoints and take good notes as well as his in class lectures. If you do all this you wont do bad in his class
Im not sure why the other rating mention he has pop quizzes he doesnt so dont be alarmed.
He goes very off topic talking about his own stories and his accomplishments that have nothing to do with the lecture or upcoming tests. Lectures can be entertaining since he does tell so many stories but you will not learn much from his lectures. His test questions are very irrelevant and very difficult so getting a good grade is near impossible.
Most of his lectures are just stories about himself and have no relationship with any of the course material. Also likes to materialize last minute assignment due the same day of the exam. Most of the material was self-taught as he offers little support and his statistical manual offers zero guidance other than a wall of text. Avoid if you can.
Constantly went off topic about his own life
Dr Wilson has some very funny moments in his lectures, and he is certainly very knowledgeable in his field. He teaches his content in his own specific way with no guidelines for grading or tests and has a tendency to be condescending. His lectures are very hard to follow so be prepared to read anything and everything in your textbooks.
I must say that he is hilarious, he makes connections of course content with the ruling party, Twitter, and youth believing in demons and drugs. If you ask me how those make sense together in a PSYC 2300 course, I honestly don't know. He teaches 2 chapters in one lecture and that was way too much to understand in 3 hours!!!!!
took this class a program requirement, do not recommend him at all! he goes off topic and rambles so much. when he actually does "teach" he'll read over his short slides and that's pretty much it. overall just be prepare to read the textbook and teach yourself! (all his stats teaching is conceptional).
DO NOT TAKE AT ALL COSTS, AVOIDDDDDDDDDDD AVOIDDDDDDDDD
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASSSSSSS PLEASEEEEEE HE DOES NOT KNOW WHAT HES TALKING ABOUT
The class can be hit-or-miss - the professor has a tendency to go on tangents about his own life rather than focusing on the material. However, using unstuck study and reading the textbook can help you prepare for the tests, which are not too difficult if you put in the work. Overall, an average experience.
