Real cool guy, loves the material to death and knows exactly what he's talking about.
no..Horrrible professor in my opinion. He laughs at ur questions and don't bother coming to his office hours. no help at all. just pray to god you pass this class. no good...take someone else if u can
Loved his class! Great professor!
Very nice guy! He uses Connect for homework and you have quizzes often and 4 exams! If you have taken a chemistry class before you should do pretty well!
His class is incredibly hard. Going to him for help is pointless because it doesn't make is any easier either. His test are much hard than you would expect them to be because they are so much more in depth then the way he teaches the material. His quizzes are impossible too. He's a horrible professor. I'm sorry if you have to take his class.
Very ambiguous in his explanations, and he can't even get 100% on his own quizzes sometimes. He's an intelligent guy without a way to communicate what his brain is thinking in a way that students can understand. Very personable, however.
Witherow is awful. If you don't understand something and ask for help, he will most likely laugh at your question. His exams are hard and isn't clear on what will be on them. For our final he told us that there will be questions we haven't even learned and that we just need to wing it. I've put more hours into this course than any other this year.
Easy teacher if you get the material, take notes, and pay attention in class. He's funny, keeps it interesting, and he's a smart guy. Some people seem to have a hard time with his tests but I don't find them difficult. There is homework online every week but it's an EASY 100. I have a 99% in his class so i'd say it is easy for a chem class.
LOVE DR WITHEROW, but he's extremely challenging. His test are incredibly hard, def not the teacher to take if you're taking more than 2 hard biochem courses in the same semester. You must read the textbook and do all the problems along with other problems. This is the only class I've ever had a curve in bc test are so hard. Very intelligent man.
Dr. Witherow is a really great professor. He's super laid back, and explain everything very simply and breaks it all down. If you go to him for help he is always there for you and doesn't mind helping students out. I absolutely love him!!
Dr. Witherow is very funny and caring! He can sometimes be confusing in class so I usually read the book to clarify. Exams were extremely tough, but doable - they really tested your understanding of the material. Your entire grade depends on exam/quiz grades, but he does usually curve exams. Overall a pretty good prof but required alot of hard work
Dr. Witherow is an amazing Biochemistry professor. Dr. Witherow lectures very well and believes in application of material, not regurgitation. If you want to learn and are willing to put in the effort, he is a great and willing to help. I highly recommend him as an academic or research advisor as well.
Dr. Witherow is an okay teacher. The class is really lecture heavy and he isn't an interesting lecturer. I dozed off during his class. The material is hard and he has a hard time explaining it. Lots of homework online. I failed this class the 1st time then retook it over Summer with only 5 students and got a B. He teaches better in small groups.
Dr. Witherow is a great teacher and knows the material very well and is always willing to help and answer questions. The material is difficult but he does a good job of helping you understand. Homework is online and can retake it as many times as needed, quiz every other chapter, exam every 4 chapters (curves exams)
I liked Dr. Witherow he is knowledgeable and reliable. Drops lowest quiz grade, curves exams, he is friendly and approachable. I would recommend taking him for CHE150.
Dr. Witherow's class isn't an easy one, but he was always there to help. He doesn't deduct points for missing class but I cannot imagine how I would've caught up without his lectures. He generously curves his tests and drops the lowest quiz grade. If you study, you'll get a good grade.
He was one of the best professors I have ever had. The material gets harder towards the end but he is always helpful and explains if you have any questions. Attendance isn't mandatory, but it definitely is helpful to go. He drops the lowest quiz grade and is very generous in curving the tests. I would definitely recommend taking him!
Horrible. Doesn't help you out at all unless you ask him questions in his office hours, which he usually cancels anyways. Gives ZERO extra credit yet makes his tests impossible. Do not recommend unless you enjoy teaching yourself an entire course. Just terrible
AWFUL. One of the worst professors I've ever had. Makes his tests impossible and isn't willing to let you do anything to get your grade up. Only single extra credit opportunity is one question on each test that he says only one person in the entire class will get. Whatever you do, DO NOT TAKE HIM
This class is extremely difficult. I think it is just the class, not necessarily the teacher making it hard. Dr. Witherow flies through material so fast. He does not give many examples of the problems.
Online homework assignments for every chapter, but most of them only take about 45 minutes. There is a 10 question, MC quiz every two chapters. There is an exam for every 4 chapters. All of the PPTs are on BB, so there is no need to show up to class unless you have questions and need the review. Easy class, but the material can be difficult.
He is helpful, offers office hours, and curves his tests (:
Great professor, always available to meet if you don't understand something, and takes his time to explain everything to you in detail. Also super funny and nice. The class itself is a little difficult, if you do the textbook practice problems you'll be good for the tests since he takes his problems from there. Highly recommend!
This course is really hard but Dr. Witherow is an awesome teacher. He will answer all of your questions, he's always at office hours, and he keeps things interesting. I did poorly in the course but I loved him.
Overall, he is a great professor. The only issue is that the class itself can get very boring. Get the textbook and do the practice problems, it will help so much rather than just trying to memorize the powerpoints. He also curves his tests and gives extra credit on the tests and for the survey at the end of the class
Dr. Witherow is very kind and cares about all of his students. His power points literally highlight the important information and the online homework includes text questions. I struggle with chemistry, but he made it very simple and to the point. If you struggle at all, he is very helpful during office hours and often has more hours if you ask.
I didnt have him for lecture, but I heard hes even more difficult for that. I had dr. Witherow for lab and he was extremely difficult. Offered no explanations for labs and offered no help. No office hours. Nothing. If you want to save ur gpa take someone else
Makes chem 1 lab way harder than it needs to be. the work could be correct but he takes off -500 points for significant figures even though he never gave a lesson on significant figures or even talked about them. I'm warning you, take a different professor. you will regret it.
This guy does nothing to prepare you for tests. He will say he is giving conversions on the test, and not give them. Even if you understand all class examples, book examples, and homework examples, he still puts the hardest most unfamiliar problems on tests. Do yourself a favor and change your course.
Overall he is a great teacher. I usually really struggle with Chemistry, but listening to him explain the information in his own words during lectures, paying attention to his examples, and completing the homework online really has helped. Although he assigns lots of homework, it helps a lot. He cares about students and is a great teacher.
Scott Witherow is really caring about the professors at UT. He is always having office hours for you to go to for extra help. Tests are not easy in this course, but he provides the material for you to pass. If you study hard, you can get an A.
by far the best prof at UT! You may get the wrong impression of him in class, but go to his office hours and he is the most welcoming and friendly professor ever. He offers not only advise about the course, but general life advise and loves to talk to you about anything you need. Tests are reasonable, grading is good and he curves the grades!
Probably one of the worst professors I had at UT. Makes the class harder then it should be. When you ask him a question he asks the same question back and expects you to figure it out without actually explaining it to you. He pays attention to detail so if you hand in a lab report and have one tiny mistake he will a lot of points off. Dont take him
PLEASE READ: This was by far the hardest class I've taken in my life. You will study for many many hours and unless your already good at chem you will probably just pass. If you do bad on one out of the 5 tests you are pretty much screwed because its hard to pull your grade up with when your only graded on tests. TAKE CHEM AT YOUR LOCAL COM COLLEGE
Unless you naturally catch onto material quickly, youll have to study a ton before every exam or else you will fail them. He gives little to no extra credit and theres a small homework percentage credit, but most of the grades put in are the exams. Either teach yourself from the book or attend lectures, but you wont survive without them both
All he ever talks about is how he has a PhD and almost was part of a team that won a Nobel prize. Kinda sad.
Worst professor I have ever had at the University of Tampa. If you are bad at chemistry, I HIGHLY suggest taking a chemistry class at your local community college. He is truly an awful teacher. Course goes to quick, nothing makes sense, his notes are all over the place, he makes it way harder than it needs to be. Bad attitude, pretty rude.
the worst professor Ive had yet. The only grades are exams I believe he strives to make them impossible. More then half of the class failed each exam. & HW is only worth a small percent. overall Horrible! He does not want his students to pass and makes it very difficult to do and his reasoning is that its a difficult class. just dont take him
I took this class my first semester of my freshman year; needless to say I wanted to drop out after this class. Hardest material I've ever tried to learn. Studied until I got headaches, still ended up getting D's and C's on the exams. This class is really tough for no reason. He's kind of a rude professor as well. TAKE CHEM AT YOUR COM COLLEGE!!!
the things i have to say about this teacher are inappropriate for a public form. stay far far away from this man. he loves to fail students and offer no help with anything. barely teaches.
He is the worst, i studied for his exams for 4-3 days for only 3 easy chapters but still my grades were horrible. will NEVER take again
I love Dr. W! Chem is not an easy course, but you will have to put in the word no matter who you take it with so take him! His curves are AMAZING almost 10% each exam. Go to office hours, stay after class, study hard and you will be fine. He was so approachable and kind. Always would help with my questions. Homework on connect and is an easy 100%
Dr Witherow is one of the best professors I've ever had! Definitely a hard class but Dr. W gives you so many study opportunities like practice videos, connect homework, video lectures. and he even provided tutors. As long as you study hard and show up and are engaged in each class, you'll be fine. Great professor !
Doesn't care if you pass. Take the other professor. You are basically only graded on the exams so if you do bad once, you're screwed.
Avoid Dr. Witherow. His powerpoint and lecture go into about 1/10 of the depth that he actually tests on. His Biochemistry class was more difficult than Ballards Organic Chem 2 class, if that is a good example for you. Class was heavily math based and he never actually taught the math. Escaped this class with a C, but know many who weren't as lucky
Dr. Witherow is a nice professor, but the class is very hard. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS unless you are ready to be challenged. He does give extra credit which helps but doesn't round grades up.
Hard class, but Professor Witherow is a great teacher. Hard work pays off! Exams are curved and homework is an easy A. Very kind and accommodating!
I went to a very vigorous academy and studied for CENTURIES and still would fail this class. I dropped 4 months in because I couldn't take it anymore it was destroying my life. He also goes WAY too fast. The entire final grade is just the tests and a small percentage for homework so if you fail one test theres nothing you can do to bring it up.
Dr. Witherow is a great teacher! He curves the tests a lot which helps so much since chemistry is so difficult. You can really tell that he cares about his students, he's very easy going and straight forward
Chemistry is a hard class so you are going to really have to work for your grade. Expect this to be the class to put the most time into and do not procrastinate. Watch the lecture videos, take notes, and do the homework and you will be able to pass. I think he explains things very well and is super nice
Solid professor who cares about your future. The class is challenging because his lectures only cover the basic material, so you need to study and read the textbook to understand the specific details. Exams and quizzes are tough but he curved every assignment.
He doesn't lecture in the class, there is only pre-recorded lecture videos. He does do practice problems within the class. There is homework due every other class pretty much if you don't keep up with the lecture videos you will be highly confused. I heard the other professor for Chemistry for Health Care Professionals isn't the better option.
The class started with 68 students and 20 passed. Grade is based on 5 exams and 100 points on homework out of 1,000. Only allowed us to take the end of the year survey if we were in class and scanned a QR code he gave us. The class is based on watching YouTube videos he made which takes hours to take notes on and you go to class to ask questions.
i have to take chem and had an f so had to withdraw. i cannot think about this class without getting mad and i literally never skipped class. he did not lecture, we all had to watch him talk over youtube videos and take notes and when we got to class he would ask if we had questions and if not he ended class. seemed like a great guy but awful class
absolutely terrible professor I have ever had!!! does not care about students and their grades. You are set up to fail. Test were so hard and he was no help. Prob the worst and hardest class and terrible professor all in one. Witherow does not care at all and sets you up to fail!!
This professor genuinely ruined my outlook on nursing and ruined my summer. I've gotten all A's in my past classes, barely am going to pass this class. His class is for students who literally don't need to be taught and need zero guidance. Gives us 2-year-old lecture videos to learn from and no time on exam. DO NOT TAKE HIM, I WISH SOMEONE TOLD ME.
Please do not take this professor. I had to drop today because I am almost failing, and I have all As and Bs in my other classes. The tests are impossible, I have never struggled in a class like I have with this one. All of the lectures are online through videos, and he doesn't offer reviews or anything. You will fail if you can't teach yourself.
Mr. Witherow does the opposite of teaching. You watch lecture videos outside of class which has very little material to what is actually on the test. Hours of watching videos and his lectures do not teach you anything, he just goes slightly over the videos and expects you to teach the rest to yourself. You will do well if you can teach yourself.
If you need this for pre-nursing good luck...I dropped it and so did many others. You are better off taking this class over the summer at a community college.
Yes, this class is hard but if you go to class and watch his lecture videos you will be fine. Also go to his office hours!! Almost your whole grade is from tests, but each test is heavily curved by about 16 or 17 points which is huge. He is a good teacher if you go to class and seems to care about his students.
Overall I thought Dr. Witherow was a great guy. He was very kind and was there to answer any questions that you had. The structure of the classroom is flipped, so you basically teach yourself the material and then he answers any questions you have in class. The class is definitely challenging and you have to put in the effort.
take this at a community college if you can. Witherow is a nice guy, but expects you to learn quickly and the material is very difficult. you have to teach yourself. this class almost made me switch my major. it genuinely was impossible to pass. i think the class started with about 45 kids and ended with about 15.
I've had Dr. Witherow in quite a few biochem classes, and he is by far the best professor I've ever had. Yes, the tests are hard, but they are also extremely rewarding. All his courses are about challenging your problem solving skills and applying previous concepts to new material. He's funny and you can tell he really cares about his students!
The grade you get is reflected by how much work you put in with studying. I know I couldn't pass a chemistry class with any other professor.TAKE HIM! Recorded lectures, readings (you don't have to do), homework (unlimited tries/100%), and practice problems during class time. PS. Before the last exam extra credit is given (show up). Exams are curved
This is a self taught course. He posts videos that are used from COVID and you are expected to watch them before class. If taking find a good group of people to help you through. Ended class with an A by watching videos the night before exams. DO NOT RECOMMEND! I know a lot of people that dropped the class, but if you can stick with it.
I'd be lying if I said this class wasn't hard. This class is a direct reflection of the work you put in. Professor Witherow genuinely cares for his students and wants you to do well but isnt going to hold your hand through the class. If you watch the lectures in a timely manner, take notes, go to class, and attend office hours you will do well.
I LOVED Dr. Witherow in chemistry for healthcare professions. He is hilarious and you can tell he really cares about his students. He always responds to his emails in a timely manner and makes sure to keep the class updated with his office hours schedule. Chemistry is a difficult subject, but put in the work and you will be fine.
All of his lectures are online. Class never goes the full amount of time. He will not walk you through it. If you genuinely watch and try to understand all of his videos and you STUDY for the tests you will be ok. Final is optional. Homework is easy. He wants you to succeed, but you need to put in the effort. This class takes up a lot of your time
He really knows his biochemistry and wants students to understand the subject. Rather than just giving you the answer to a question, he will guide you to the answer. Exams were hard so start studying early. Other assignments were fairly easy.
Lectures are videos outside the class, he does an overview in class after watching them. Homework is easy 100 with multiple tries. The textbook is for problems to review. The tests are difficult but he curves heavily and if you study with a group you will do better. Class ends early usually by an hour. Optional final and office hours can help.
He is really sweet and pushes you to get the answer by yourself. He offers some extra credit but not much. He tries to explain things as best as possible but doesn't always succeed. Overall he is a pretty good professor tho
Always says he cares about his students' success but will refuse to help you in office hours. No matter what I asked he would reply with you can "just search it up" and that "obviously whatever he said in class did not stick", his exact words. Very unhelpful and expect to learn one of the hardest subjects all by yourself.
The worst professor ever do not take him all he wants to do is fail students he does not care about them passing and started the class this semester bragging that he fails students. He does not teach you learn it all yourself and when you ask for help he makes you feel stupid and says you cheated. Take anyone else but him he is AWFUL
I took this course over the summer, and it was going great til it wasn't. I finished the course with an A in Canvas, but he accused me of AI on an exam, and I never used it, but still ended up failing the course. Completely used bias for the accusations.
I love this man!!! He is amazing. I am doing great in his class, he makes you watch lecture videos before class on that chapter which is SUPER helpful because you have access to them always! He is super nice and cares about you as a student and is very easy to contact if you need any help! I loved this class!!!
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! I dropped the course midway through because the tests were so hard. Save yourself the tears and take it through a different school or a different professor. He is nice but does not teach well. The class is entirely self-taught.
If you're not able to teach yourself and understand the material yourself don't take him. He started off the year bragging about how he failed a bunch of kids over the summer which was weird. Also don't even waste your time with office hours he will not help you.
I mean he's alright, the tests were hard and the class really is entirely self taught. It's manageable but expect to prioritize this class over your other ones, as it requires a LOT of studying. Best tip, actually watch the videos!!
He gets too much hate. He is really a nice professor. The class is hard its a gen-ed weed out class. Don't let the reviews scare you. Watch the videos, read the book, to office hours. You will be fine. Lectures are self-taught. Class was an hour but took lots of time out of class. 90% grade tests, 10% HW. The tests aren't hard if you study.
he was awful laughed in my face when i asked for help
please whatever you do, do not take this professor. he took my will to live ended the class with a 69.45 and he refused to round up to a 70. i literally have As in all my other classes except this one. I spent 7-10 hours a week studying for this class and it never helped he barley answers questions and just expects u to learn via youtube
Definitely wouldn't take him again exams are 90% of your grade and most averages are failing. It's a flipped classroom style so you teach yourself then go to class and he goes over the homework.
This class definitely tests you, you need to be 100% committed or you will struggle. If you put the work in throughout the semester and keep up with the pace, you'll
