I had him for the lab and he was great. He explained things really well, but you still had to work really hard. There were quizes everyday so you had to know your stuff before the lab even started. He was more than willing to help outside of class.
He's been a physiology teacher all his life, so his anatomy class has a very very strong physiology aspect to it! Lectures straight from the book, but tests are super hard!!!! Focus more on how things work together and not just individual bones, muscles, etc.... understand the whole concept!!!!
His tests are incredibly hard! He is very arrogant and seems to want to intimidate his students on a regular basis. When he explains things he is clear, but he doesn't always explain everything that is included in the information tested. He doesn't seem to have a whole lot of time to help when approached outside of class.
Excellent teacher- he knows his stuff and is happy to answer questions, but for the majority of the test material you are on your own. He doesn't come close to covering everything in class. Tests are HARD.
Okay, Anatomy itself is hard. You have to study all semester for this class. His lecture test are really hard b/c they are more over the whole concept of how things work. If you do very well in the lab you are going to be fine. I didn't do well on the lecture test but did excellent in lab and I got a B. Study hard and you will do fine.
What was mentioned below is exactly right. I did horribly in lecture, but got A's in lab, so ended up with a B. Just study as much as can, and it will be okay. He is a great teacher and knows his stuff. He may seem intimidating at first, but you'll find it's okay in the end.
If you want to be entertained and fail the class zimmerman is your man. He makes class enjoyable but does not prepare you for the tests in anyway. Your on your own on this class so start studying now.
i enjoyed him very much, as he is funny and entertaining. however, what he discusses in class isn't necessarily what will be on the test. he spends alot of time talking about stuff he finds interesting instead of test material. great guy, a little intimindating at first, but very hard class. study HARD! read the chapters before and ask questions.
Lectures were straight from the book, but the test questions were for the most part physiology. He didn't understand that it was an ANATOMY class. Lab is easy if you can memorize well. Just study hard for lectures, try to understand the entire concept, and hope for the best.
He was so funny and made the boring class fun!
He's a nice enough guy... tests are from the book and not lecture... lecture tests are super hard! You will have to read the book over and over to do well on his tests. Good luck.
This class is hard. If you are not ready to study a book, do not take this class yet. You HAVE to read the text and KNOW it to do well in the lecture. The labs are way easier and if you do well there, you will get at least one grade letter better. Prepare to study and don't fear him, he will help you :)
this is a tough class all around. study the book, and do well in lab you will be fine. exams are hard. zimmerman puts up a tough font, but he's really a nice guy. i would take his class again.
He is very smart and nice, but doesn't seem to care at all about the students' grades. No study guides, just expects you to know 200+ pages of the book. His tests are very detailed and even when I studied really hard he still threw me for a loop. Class averages were D's on all tests. Lazy teacher.
HARD class. Zimmerman's lectures are interesting but they don't prepare you in any way for the tests even if you read. No matter how much I studied, I never felt ready. He purposely tries to confuse you on the tests-averages are D's. Spend a lot of time studying for lab and you're grade should be a letter grade better than your lecture exams.
I am an A student and I recieved a B in this course. It is an extremely hard class nad his tests are way to difficult. He is one of the professors that wants his class to be "the hardest class". Be prepared to study at 20+ hours for each test to get a decent grade. Lab grade helps somewhat.
Prepare to read and study Anatomy NON-STOP with this professor. An A is attainable, but you have to kick butt to get it! Everytime I went to Zimm. out of class he was EXTREMELY rude to me. Be overly cautious on assignments because he will find a way to take points away.
Excellent professor. He keeps the class very interesting. You do have to study quite a bit but the class is very interesting and he is always willing to help.
This class requires a lot of work but he makes that clear, makes the lectures fairly interesting but don't ask stupid questions, he has no problem ridiculing you in front of the class. He does not round up.. even when the final average was and 50% he did not curve anyone's scores. Read the book!!
study study study!!! lecture tests are inpossible to even PASS wihout reading to book word for word...lecture and lab are both very time consuming, but an A isnt too hard to get in lab if you put time into it...as for lecture good luck. no tests are curved..even when class average is below 60%
Lecture tests are HARD! If you don't read the book, you will not pass this class. I'm an A student, and barely scraped a B out of this class, and I mean barely. Lab tests aren't too bad and may possibly help your grade. Do the extra case studies he puts on blackboard because you will need all the help you can get.
Dr. Zimmerman is helpful if you ask. He's funny and very informative. Lab is easy, but lecture exams are VERY VERY hard. But if you do well in lab, you can still pass even if lecture doesn't go well. There is heavy potential to learn a lot from this course. I recommend reading the chapters if you want any hope in lecture.
DO THE CASE STUDIES! A bunch of people told me not to, but I got an A (barely) because I did all the case studies. Everyone says lab is easy, but it's only easy if you get an easy lab instructor. I got a hard one, so the lab was just as hard as lecture for me. Read the book over and over and over to do well on the lecture tests.
This is a Medical Level Class. Half of the class always fails no matter what, average on tests is a D. You HAVE to read the chapters and learn the material yourself. Must get A's in all labs to have a chance but that isn't too bad. Don't go ask for help as he is very rude when you do. I'm averaging a C after I failed it once alredy.
I'm indifferent about Dr. Zimmerman, he can be rude at times. He's a good lecturer, but the lectures don't really help when it comes to the tests. Make up your bad lecture test grades on lab tests. Try to do at least 5 of the case studies. He told us we were the worst class he's ever had, so hopefully you'll do better than us. Good luck!
Oh, Dr. Zimmerman...what an interesting guy. He's a good lecturer, but you're pretty much screwed on the tests unless you read the entire book cover to cover. I'm a straight A student, and barley pulled a B out of the class thanks to lab. He told us repeatedly that we were the worst class he's ever had...haha. Have fun!
Great teacher but his tests are murder. Don't listen if he tells you not to pay attention to something in the book, you can count on a test question from there. Be prepared to memorize the book. He's moody and he picks people he wants to be nice to. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU CAN'T DEVOTE ALL YOUR TIME TO IT OR YOU WILL NOT PASS.
Great lecturer, but horrible tester. Tests over book ONLY. Memorize the book or don't pass. Professor has no social skills and picks favorites. Heads up, he's mean sometimes in person and couldn't care less whether he hurts your feelings.
I took this as a 5 week summer course & earned A's on every exam. My advice: USE THE WEBSITE! It saves you a ton of study time. If you can do well on all the web tests, you will make an A in lecture. Dr. Z isn't overly friendly & he seems bothered when people do well. Know your book, listen in lecture & take your time on the tests & you'll do fine.
Dr. Z's class is very difficult and you should be prepared to spend A LOT of time on the material. There isn't a really good way to study for tests since there is so much to study and know. He will help you as much as possible and takes a genuine interest in his students. He loves what he does and it shows!! Don't use "old dead guy names"! LOL!
Great Profssor in the sense that he knows his stuff. Ask any question and he will always attempt to answer it. Does expect you to be an adult, not much to ask since you are in college taking a 300 level class, so be prepared to study, READ THE TEXTBOOK, and go to lab as often as you can, because lab is what helps you obtain an A.
hard class. read textbook a lot.
This class is surrounded around the book. Reading is mandatory to pass this class! Zimmerman is helpful, I felt that going to class although not required made a difference sometimes when trying to grasp different topics. I found this class challenging but still really enjoyed it.
The class requires extensive knowledge of the book. I recommend studying at least 2 hours a day. I learned more from this class than any other I've taken. Dr. Zimmerman makes your life in future classes much easier. Work hard in Lab and do decent in lecture and the A is attainable.
This class is super hard. I am an all A student and getting a C on a test about killed me. EVERYTHING is from the book and he makes it known that he wants his test to be the hardest ever taken. Be prepared to eat sleep and breath this class.
DON'T TAKE THE CLASS UNLESS YOU HAVE TO!! I am an A student. I've studied for this class well beyond a reasonable amount. I feel like I know the info, but due to his tricky tests, I can't get past an 84%. He likes the reputation of having one of the hardest classes on campus. I think he is padding his paycheck by making students retake the class
He's a class act, he thinks that he and his class are the only thing that matters. MEMORIZE EVERYTHING!! I will never take another class with him in it
This class isn't that bad if you know how to study. Dr. Z is more than happy to help, but will call you out if you aren't doing your part. You can learn a lot from this class if you let yourself. Don't get bitter about the fact you have to work, it is an upper level class and no real surprise.
This class requires hard work but is not impossible. Going in with a bad attitude will get you nowhere fast. You can learn a lot from Dr. Z if you let yourself.
Be prepared to study a lot if you want to do well.
If you plan to go into the medical field at all this class will prepare you well. Don't expect it to be a free ride though.
Dr. Zimmerman is extremely well versed in anatomy. He will help you if you show you are doing your part. Don't email though, he's rude in emails. Go in person. When people say to READ the material, you MUST read the material. It's not an option. You don't get powerpoints and EVERYTHING on tests is from the book. STUDY HARD or FAIL.
This class was extremely time consuming. The information was very interesting, but memorization was key to getting a good grade. As long as you read every single chapter you go over (preferably multiple times) and study a lot, you should be fine. Come prepared to class or you'll get behind and you'll never be able to catch up.
Great teacher. The class itself is just hard. Study material is the book & nothing else. You have to stay on top of the reading! He's very helpful, but there's a lot of students so he's pretty busy. but he's always eager to help, plus his assistant teachers are very helpful. hard class, well worth it. make sure you ace lab to get ur C.
Very knowledgeable but sometimes lectures gets dull if you don't come to class prepared. Must study study study for tests. Do well in lab (90s) and it should offset your lecture grades.
Dr. Z is knowledgeable about A&P. He's friendly, funny, and happy to answer questions as long as you're making an effort. Dr. Z can be blunt, but he's never mean. Be sure to study the book, it's all that matters for tests. Use all the resources you need: professor, lab TA, study sessions, etc. An A is definitely attainable but not a gimme.
I was scared by other comments before taking this class. Zimmerman knows his stuff and teaches very well. Read the book. I used flash cards and did well in the class. I loved this class and learned a ton.
This class is VERY challenging, but if you read the book and study hard you can do well. I would advise that you don't ask questions that can be answered by simply reading the book or syllabus because you will get referred to one or the other.
Really difficult to pass this class unless you get a high A in the lab and read every word and diagram in the lecture book. Going to lecture is pointless unless you read the book and have a good understanding prior to class.
He does an excellent job of covering the material, but you better have a photographic memory. There is a lot to know. His test are incredibly hard.
This class is incredibly difficult. Any information in the book is fair game for the tests and his tests are tricky. The man knows his stuff though.
Extremely hard, but he's an excellent teacher. The first class he tells you that you need to dedicate 3 hours a day to the class, he isn't lying.
This class is ridiculously hard, but it's manageable. He often fumbles his words in class though, so don't be afraid to ask for clarification (he's really good about answering questions). If you can't dedicate gobs of time to this class, you may want to wait. Read the chapters, go to the PASS sessions, and form study groups.
He is very helpful.. I took this class as an accelerated summer course and studied non-stop. He pulls everything from the text, so be sure to read it, prior to class, because he will go over the text to help you understand. Answers questions with clarity. Wording on tests can be tricky. Do well in lab, it will boost your grade immensely.
His expectations were really high, but not unreasonable. It is a class designed to "thin the herd." There are so many people going into healthcare professions that he tries to pick out the ones that are really committed.
HARDEST CLASS EVER!!! Very nice guy but class is ridiculous. It's impossible to learn everything he tells you to. Ain't nobody got time for that! Take the KIN anatomy if at all possible.
Just terrible. Mixes things up during class. Be prepared for the worst class of your life, but he's the only one teaching it so you'll just have to deal with it.I made the mistake of going to class rather than spending the time studying on my own. Thank God for the lab portion, unless of course you get stuck with one of the bad TA's. Good luck!
Don't bother attending lecture; study on your own. This class is manageable if you do well in lab, but generally even the best students average a B in lecture, so you need your lab grade to boost you up.
Always asks for questions and then belittles you if you ask them. Assumes that anatomy is your only class and expects ridiculous amounts of knowledge on each chapter. I understand a challenge, but his class is sometimes unreasonable.
Teacher has a bad rap, but I thought he does a great job of bringing exciment to long information filled lectures. The material is tough but that is expected with a 500 level course. You will need to have your book with you all semester, but you can also get alot out of this class.
I honestly love Dr. Zimmerman as a person and professor. He expects highly of you because most students taking his classes are pre-med. He absolutely cares for his students and wants the best for them. He will make you work hard but means well.
Dr. Zimmerman is very passionate about what he does. His classes are a challenge but its clear he is trying to prepare students for the medical field not just keep a GPA. I have never been so challenged by a professor, but I've never learned as much from one either! awesome professor
Expects you to come to class prepared and contribute to the discussion of the material. He wants everyone to do well, has a very logical approach to his class and grading system, learn the material, show up for lab and you'll do well. Study your butt off, physiology is a tough subject and you need to master the material.
I don't understand the bad reviews... He is extremely knowledgable about what he's teaching and he really pushes you to think on your own! Physiology was challenging and structured a bit different than other classes, so that was a little learning curve. You have to stay on top of this class to do well! Cares, challenges, funny and respected.
Zimmerman is honestly such a great guy. I suck at science, but had to take this class for nursing and he made it almost interesting. He cares about you, and he's the first professor I've had in college that I feel noticed me. The class is TOUGH, no doubt, and he doesn't give extra credit, but if you work hard, it's possible to pass.
Wish someone told me to avoid this professor. He seems nice but he's toxic and will ruin your college experience. Tells students they're not smart enough to accomplish their academic goals. Disrespectful, arrogant, horrible lecture professor. Homework is bearable, if you can tolerate sitting through his aweful lecture style. MSU should replace him.
He was very knowledgeable, but I was constantly being told I was "learning the wrong way". His tests are very hard and he made it challenging for me personally to learn. I thought he did explain topics pretty well, and he was very engaging, but compared to the other two lab instructors, I felt the least prepared for the tests.
MSU standards for professors is pretty low considering how horrible Dr. Z is, can't tell if he's just a bad professor or a really bad person, or both.
Just don't. Take the lab with anyone else. If you're going to medical school or something then maybe because it will prepare you for that, but if that isn't your plan take someone else. He is a cool guy who will try to help you, but only to a point. I wish I would have listened to others but all the 308 profs get bad reviews since its a tough class
You can tell that he knows what he's talking about, but he doesn't come across as very understanding when YOU don't know what he's talking about. He has yelled at our class to take both more and less notes. Even when you're doing stuff correctly, somehow you're always doing it wrong. It's his way or the highway and he makes that known on day one
Honestly one of the worst professors. He is not approachable, rude, and will not help you even when you are completely lost about what he is talking about. He calls out people and makes everyone feel like they will not be successful. Reading the textbook is a must or you'll be lost. Outside class lab assignments aren' helpful at all!! Stay away!!!
Stay as far away from Dr. Zimmerman as possible. Easily the worst professor Ive had at Missouri State. Lab sessions are just 2 hour lectures and he doesnt want you to take notes during them. Any time I emailed him about anything I got a rude and unprofessional response. Seriously find someone else to take lab with.
Easily the worst professor I've had at Missouri state. Physiology is a TOUGH class and he is extremely unhelpful. Lectures the entire class period with no outline, just talks. I emailed him a few times about various things and he was EXTREMELY unprofessional. Unless you are the smartest kid in the class he doesn't care about what you have to say.
Dr. Zimmerman is one of the more intelligent and passionate professors at MSU; he wants you to love physiology as much as he does. I highly recommend taking the lab with him if you don't want to be bored with the subject. You can't chalk up a negative review based on your own poor study habits and not liking the subject he teaches.
Take ANY other lab instructor. He is very set in his ways; and while he does want students to actually learn the material, his way is the only way to do that. He feels like if you aren't spending 40 hours a week studying then that is the reason you are failing. Does not realize that students have other stressors and things going on. Very arrogant.
This man is by far the WORST professor I have ever interacted with at Missouri State. He straight up yells at you if you take notes in his class which is literally just him rambling for two hours. He would go on rants in class where he would call us dumb. Also I have yet to see anyone get an email from him with any amount of professionalism. AVOID
Im convinced the good reviews this man has are left by himself. He makes you feel like an idiot, he provides no extra material outside of the online book unlike other teachers, and hes told multiple women they wont make it in STEM. Take literally any other lab teacher than him. He only has a job because of tenure, not because hes a good teacher
Ever interaction with this professor was toxic and negative. I went to talk to him about how to study the material to do well on the exams, after doing poorly on the first exam. I told him I was a mom and he told me to "wait till my kids get older." Sorry, but that's not ok! Pretty sure that is Family Status discrimination. He's a liability to MSU.
Very challenging course, didnt acquire a lot of knowledge by attending lecture, he said a lot of dispensable things in class.
there's a reason why Dr. Zimmerman has bad reviews going back 11 years!!! he's the absolute product of a prof that's tenured and listens to ZERO student feedback. he's big on no outside resources, such as posting the slides, and discourages taking pictures and sometimes even note taking, stating "it's all in your book!"
horrible professor. DO NOT TAKE HIM. only reason he still at missouri state bc of his contract. won’t allow note taking and has made people break down and cry in class and didn’t have a care in the world. tells his students they won’t make it in med school and will “write a personal letter to make sure they don’t get in”
He's a terrible teacher. Always lectures on how to pass and be a good student but doesn't seem to understand that student learn in different ways. No powerpoint/extra material to learn from. Just the book. Then will tell us the book is wrong on some things. Always says we are behind in class if we aren't studying his way.
Confused how there are good reviews on here because he is not adaptive, caring, or friendly. He tells students how they aren't making it to med school or graduate school, and he tells his students everyday about how behind they are. When you ask him questions, he attacks your thought processes and personality. Class is only graded by tests.
Worst professor that I have ever had at MSU. ONLY, and I mean only, grade in the class are the exams. I study for weeks before the exams, hours a day and still fail or gets D's. He says the textbook is your bible, yet criticizes the textbook in class for the several things that are "wrong". DON'T TAKE THIS MAN YOUR GPA WILL SUFFER.
Dr. Zimmerman is a horrible professor!!! The only material he gives you to study with is the book which he often criticizes and says is wrong. His test questions are worded nothing like the book and seem like they are meant to trick you. He is rude and honestly very disrespectful to those who ask him questions. Take it at OTC, trust your friends!
He does want you to learn so you can be successful in your career, but he's not very encouraging in doing so. He's extremely blunt, which can come off as rude and degrading. If you don't read the textbook, you WILL fail. But, you ARE capable! Your success in this class doesn't determine your worth in your career - your will to help others does. :)
I seriously don't understand how people pass this class. unless you have to take this class, do yourself a favor and avoid this class like the plague.
Zimmerman has been the only professor that I have been terrified of at Missouri State after going to school here for 4 years. After having a 4.0 GPA (or almost that) my entire educational career and exceeding in anatomy, this class is meant for people to fail. He does not care about the future of any students or if you need this class to graduate.
Zimmerman is a good lecturer. But, there's no hiding the fact that he's pretty rude. Just Deal with it and get through it. You got this!
THE WORST, he's very rude, heavy lectures and tough exams. no extra credits or points. I would suggest taking this class with another instructor.
Physiology is undoubtedly a difficult class, but Dr. Zimmerman makes it significantly more challenging. He withholds all outside materials, such as practice exams, powerpoints, and recorded lectures. Be ready to spend a significant amount of time reading the textbook. In addition to that, he is very rude and will not help students succeed.
I basically have to retake this class because I did not learn one. thing. in this class. I read the textbook everyday, took notes and studied days before my test, and proceeded to either fail or get a D on every test. I would ask him for help, and would do nothing to help at all. Waiting to see if I can take this with a different professor. BEWARE!
An inconsiderate professor. He gets mad if you take notes or pictures of the slides in class & is not a fair grader. Provides NO resources except for the book. Won't directly answer questions. Use the lab to boost your grade bc it's easier & there are more chances for questions. Study the tables and figures in the book intensely & stay caught up.
This was the worst class. He spent half of the class time lecturing us about how it is a waste of time to take notes. He does not cover all the material in class because he expects us to learn it from the book but does not give guidelines for what we should focus on so the moral of the story learn the whole entire book.Take another instructor.
Listen to these reviews. He is the worst professor I have ever had. I got 100 in anatomy with Nicole but this course was impossible. You have to memorize the entire textbook if you want a fighting chance. He is rude and thinks he knows everything. He says not to take notes, and he doesn't post any slides. The textbook is your only resource.
This is the absolute worst professor i have ever had. In the beginning, he will literally tell you that if you take any other classes, you will not pass with an A at all. He is extremely rude, does not provide any outline of tests or notes to study. Constantly gets off track and makes class behind in lectures. Do Not take him, take someone else.
Dr. Zimmerman gets a lot of hate, but he is a great professor. From the first day, he made it known that he cared for his students and genuinely enjoyed getting to teach. He has great lectures, but he does not provide his PowerPoints so be prepared to READ. Like Dr. Zimmerman says, form a study group, and this class gets considerably easier.
Avoid this professor at all costs. Lectures are dry, tests extremely difficult, and he provides zero resources beyond the textbook. Try using unstuckstudy alongside the textbook to prepare - it saved me a lot of time.
Dr. Zimmerman has been great for BMS561. He knows how to keep the class engaged and the way he lectures really helps the material stick, he also cares deeply for his students. If you stay on top of the material and read ahead before class, this class gets considerably easier.
I wont lie his classes are hard, however his lectures are so informative, and he knows his stuff well. He is very intimidating to talk to one on one, but actually very nice. He grades hard but everything truly is in the textbook and slides. If you want an easy class, don't take him, if you actually want to learn he's great.
Dr. Zimmerman is not a hard professor. The material is the challenging part. He seems intimidating at first, but he is actually kind and really funny. You have to study hard if you want a good grade. All the information on the tests is in the textbook. He also sometimes gives extra credit for showing up to class. Studying is essential!
Dr. Zimmerman at first can be an intimidating man, but if you attend his office hours and be an active student in his class, he's a much different person because he sees your passion! Be prepared to read, study effectively, participate in class, come to class- sometimes he gives out extra credit just for showing up! Follows his syllabus to the T!
