He's great... He has a great sense of humor and presents the material in a way that makes it easy to learn and remember.
He's a great teacher. He's funny and presents the materical in a easy way that makes it easy to learn. He's one of the greatest teacher at Georgia Highlands. His test are not hard. Half of the test is essay but he tells you which essay will be on the test. He gives quizzes for each chapter. The test questions are from his quizzes.
Mr Akemon's is nice and his test are not too hard. His multichoice test come from his quiz and half the test is a essay. He has three essay question for each test, and He tells you which one definitely will be on the test.
The ability to interact with the class on discussions that affect each of us was great. Regardless of his tests or the quizzes or the class assignments. The class was great because we all had a voice and that is basically what he wants his students to leave with. Knowing that we can and should make a difference.
Very interesting lectures that inspires interest in the subject.
One of the greatest professors at Georgia Highlands. I learned a lot of information in his class. He cares about his students.
I would recommend Mr. Akemon to anyone. He breaks the material down so everybody in the class can understand it. He will do what ever it takes to help a student pass his class.
Awesome professor, great lectures, engaging homework.
I would recommend Mr. Akemon to anyone who does not like political science. He was always fun and the assignments and tests he gives, he usually gives you all the stuff you need before hand. The only way you won't pass this class is if you don't come and don't do any homework.
Akemon is a great guy, and an awesome teacher. I never study for any of his test, all I did was paid attention and did my work and I made a B. If I would have studied for his test I could have made an A.
Great teacher...nice man on a professional and personal level..A plus teacher
He's a great teacher, and he is impartial. His class is great for people who love or hate politics.
Academically, the class was great to make an A in. The only problem with Akemon is that he tends to be biased sometimes and can get agitated.
Scott Akemon is passionate about what he teaches and that's not something you see very often. He's a wonderful teacher.
Good teacher! He cares about his students. He is very reasonable with his expectations and very straight forward. He makes his class interesting. He is a Democrat, but is respectful to others beliefs.
I expected to be put to sleep (especially since it was a 2.5hr saturday class). He came out spewing fire and brimstone. He'll make you laugh and he'll let you speak, but he will push you! He also took time to answer my questions, both during and after class. It's up to you.
Thought it would be nap time, but he came out spewing fire and brimstone. All that was missing was the soap box. I actually found the tests easy enough to be mad at myself for the ones i missed. He'll tell you exactly what's coming. Just follow instructions. If you don't get it, ask. He loves talking about the stuff so be prepared for the answer:)
Easy on the eyes and very smart. Even if you don't have an interest in Political Science or History, I'm almost positive he will talk about something that will spark your curiosity. READ THE MATERIAL! If you do the work, don't sweat the test. Mr. Akemon's Political Science projects were fun and enlightening.
Great teacher. I don't like political science at all, but I enjoyed Mr. Akemon classes. He makes his class really interesting that an A is possible even for someone like me who doesn?t like the subject. It is not an easy A but it is possible. He is always helpful and willing to work out with his students.
BEST TEACHER I'VE HAD! I took Professor Akemon's political science class two years ago and ever since then I have been interested in politics. I am 20 years old and religiously watch the news and get involved with political affairs. Akemon really changed my life for the better. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Good teacher very easy, gets off topic pretty quick. class is always short.
Very clear with instructions and keeps the class interesting with his lectures. Tests are not difficult as long as you pay attention. Keeps class short most of the time. Students need to be respectful in his class he takes no bull with PDA's, talking, and so on. I would take his class again!
Extremely easy to get along with. He tries to act like he is so mean but he is a great teacher with an awesome sense of humor. He can be sarcastic though if your question is just really dumb. He makes the class interesting and really makes you think about the issues facing our nation as far as government. I loved it now I am very political!
Good teacher. You have a lot of information to learn, but if you study you will do good. Much of the test is drawn from the quizes.
Professor Akemon can seem on the first day like he's stern and angry but he's actually awesome. I forgot to do like 3 assignments and he said bring them to him by the final and you get full credit. Awesome! I got an A in a government class!!
At first he comes across like he is angry or pissed; but you find that it's just his personality. Test questions come straight from quizzes, homework, etc. He's straight forward; read what he says to read, study what he says to study, and you should have no problem making an A. He also will really open your eyes to things happening in America.
Best darn teacher ever, he is hilarious. Please, if you are debating about what teacher to take. DO NOT bother taking anyone else. ONLY TAKE HIM.... He is the best teacher I have ever had. He taught me things about my own state that i'd never know of if it wasn't for him. BEST TEACHER HANDS DOWN.
Take good notes. Keep your study guides and study them they will appear on the test. I was never intrested in a class like this but at the end I am so pleased I took this class. He enjoys his teaching and I wish there were more teachers like him.
He is awesome. His class is easy becuase he is a good teacher, not because he dumbs it down. He is charismatic and concise. I would recommend him to anyone.
I highly recommend this instructor & will take his him again. His lectures are very interesting. It's like he is telling historical stories. He insists on class participation or he will give essay exams. We participated. Study guides are given and gone over, which were extremely helpful.
Great teacher. Very fun and enthusiastic about the class. Recommend him 110%!
Professor akemon keeps the class interesting and finds a way to joke around a lot ! 3 test plenty of quizzes to prepare you for the test! Super easy class! TAKE HIM if you can!
I've had him 2x. PoliSci was a little difficult but that's because it was my 1st semester in college. His Hist1121 class is so easy. His tests come straight from the quizzes (which are usually take home bc he is king of procrastination). Loves to cancel class, and has a dark sense of humor. Lets class out early 95% of the time. Great Teacher!
I have only good things to say about him, the guy will bend over backwards for you. A great lecturer! He really knows his stuff. Don't worry about any confusion that may come during the semester, LOL he will NOT do you wrong, and will make up anything that appears to not be on course. A definite must have as a history professor!
My absolute favorite class I've ever taken. This man created my love for political science. He has rules for his class but they are fair. If you pay attention, you will learn a lot.
One of my favorite teachers I have ever had! He helps you with anything you need. He answers every question that you have too. I would definitely take him again!
Mr. Akemon is AWESOME! I've had him for political science and western civilization. I would HIGHLY recommend taking Akemon. He is one of my favorite teachers and I have learned a lot from his class.
You get out of it what you are willing to put in
Best professor ever! He is so nice and makes learning the material fun. TAKE HIM!
Best Professor EVER. He influenced me to change my major to Poly Sci. If you are sensitive and uptight, not the class for you. He's very Blunt and straightforward but he's extremely hilarious. He knows his stuff and teaches it well! If you do the work, you won't have any problems. He works well with you. He wants everyone to pass. Take him!!
Akemon is the best professor I've taken. He's hilarious and knows his stuff. I was required to take his class but I am going to take another one of his classes that isn't mandatory because I loved his class that much! Seriously TAKE HIM you won't be disappointed!!
Free A if you just do all the easy homework. A few simple, small writing assignments. Print out quizzes at home and study them for the few tests- answers are word for word. Extra credit is given on almost everything. He's funny and grades very generously.
Greatest Professor at Highlands
BEST professor ever! I took him online in summer. He responds to you very quickly and is an awesome teacher. Would recommend him to anyone taking a history class. Wish i would have taken him for all of mine!
Great teacher, the man knows his stuff. Don't test him, he's funny and you will get out of class early. His tests are 80% just like his study guides. The other 20% will most likely be from quizzes. Took him twice, if i can take him again i will. You can miss class, not a biggie. but just be there before test day. he will review and give answers.
Best professor at Highlands!
Professor Akemon is by far my favorite professor. Would recommend him to anybody.
BEST professor I have ever had! He is very understanding that life just happens. If you miss an assignment, he will work with you to make it up. His tests are fair. They come from the study guides, lectures, and the book. As long as you pay attention and participate, this class will be an easy A.
If you're a Freshman, please do yourself a favor and do not waste this opportunity for an easy A. He is one of the most entertaining professors GHC has to offer and you'll learn a lot from him. I highly recommend taking an American history class with him as well because he is less picky on assigned papers compared to other history professors.
Great guy. Even took him as my advisor.
Akemon was by far my favorite professor at GHC. His level of knowledge for Political Science is unreal and he really cares about his students. He commonly asks questions to gather class participation but he gets frustrated when no one decides to answer. His tests are fairly easy, as long as you study and ahead of time.
Hilarious, crazy smart guy. He tries to seem mean at the begining of the semester by saying he's strict and will not give extra credit, but for my class he constantly gave us extra credit and extended deadlines. Make sure to stay on his good side and pay attention in class. reading the text book and taking good notes will help tremendously.
Professor Akemon was the best professor I have ever had I highly recommend. I started the class with no interest in Political Science and by the end of the semester, I was extremely interested in the subject. He is a very good guy and will work with you if you have any questions or problems.
Prof. Akemon is a truly wonderful person and teacher. He is funny, and is VERY knowledgeable about the material. You do have to read and study for his tests, but it is easy if you show up and do what you're supposed to.
Do what he asks of you in the syllabus and guidelines and it will be an easy A. I hate polysci and he made it very interesting. He is a hilarious guy and gives you an understandable amount of work. He provides an online free link to the textbook, quizzes online that you should ace easily, and overall he is a great guy. Highly recommend
LOVE THIS GUY! Hes my advisor now. He really cares about your progress.
Nice guy, cusses a lot, very liberal views. Study guides help for test but not all. Homework is stuff an English teacher would give and he grades on spelling and punctuation. He does curve grades. Easy A if you study and do the assignments.
Mr. Akemon has been one of my favorite instructors ever. He has made me care about government a lot more. He has also managed to keep my attention for 75 minutes straight which is no easy task.
I loved taking his political science class!! Hes super fun and easy. He grades pretty easily and its an easy A if you just pay attention to instructions and read the rubric. His lectures can be a bit boring but hes makes history and politics as fun as it can be. I would definitely take any class he offered.
TAKE HIM!!! When the class was over I was actually disappointed. He can be boring during the lecture then out of nowhere he will get all excited and be hilarious. He teaches well and is very entertaining. A good bit to do outside of class but nothing takes too long. Many times I woke up at 10am and completed the work or project before my 2pm class
Definitely the easiest history class ever. He makes the class interesting, and allows make up work. His study guides are the tests.
I took him as an independent study for the special topics course over the presidency. Akemon is a real gem. If you do what is asked, you will finish with an A. He is a really nice man and will help when asked. Treat him with respect and he will do the same. All in all, one of the best professors I've had at GHC.
Scott Akemon is the best professor I've had at Georgia Highlands. You get the sense that he is ready to debate just about anyone at any time, but all for the purpose of showing why the right answer is, well, right. He's a tough grader, but he very much cares about the success of his students. If you do your best, you can't fail.
Mr. Akemon is a great professor. I have probably learned more in his class than any other class I've taken. He is very passionate about what he teaches and he makes that known to his class. He has expectations just like every other professor. Go to class, listen, and study and you'll do just fine!
He reads from power points but also give examples in life. Its a super easy class. We had 4 homework assignments and they were super easy. Quizzes are on d2l. Tests are in class. He makes study guides for the tests and all of the questions on the study guide are in the tests plus a few more but they are easy.
He'll tell you that this class is easy, and it is. You don't have to come to class, but he'll talk smack about whoever is absent during attendance. I really enjoyed lecture. I learned a ton because I was interested, but I'm sure many people slept their way through class since all quiz answers are on quizlet.
Mr. Akemon is one of the best professors I have had. He genuinely cares about his students and their learning. He does power points and tells stories that relate to the information. I really learned a lot and found it easy to pay attention. I plan on taking Mr. Akemon again for American history.
Some of the test questions come from the study guide. He teaches on a powerpoint. Overall easy class and is very entertaining.
Homework is very easy. Gives 2-3 weeks to turn it in. There is a quiz just every two weeks or so but no problem getting at least a B at minimum. Great Professor, Recommend!
Never again. He grades you very harshly and gives you a 60 on a big assignments and tells you "Keep up the quality work" "solid effort". Although you did great on the assignments he finds ways the make you fail them
Took online for an 8 week class. Grades very harshly. Does not respond to emails well when you need him to. not sure if I would take him again.
H would rather you know how much he knows about government than make sure you know about government. Hour and a half lecture for him to tell his life stories and what hes mad about
If you have a problem, just send him an email and he'll help you the best he can. Forget a due date? He'll give you 2 days to complete it. Forget to do everything in the class? He gave us TWO amnesty weeks this semester. He does like talking, but if you listen he'll throw in a few jokes to make it entertaining.
I couldn't have picked a better professor for American Government! Mr. Akemon is a very knowledgeable person, and while he does show PowerPoints for students to take notes, he can speak on political science and history without reading out of the text book. He knows his stuff and is very respectful. Amazing professor! 10/10!
He is very picky with how you have everything worded in an essay, but his class has been more effective in my writing than any english class I've taken. Had him for American Government last semester and now I make 100s on papers for other classes. You've gotta study for the midterm and final if you want to make an A.
His patterns and grading style is easy to pick up on. He is a laid back teacher. quiz and discussions every week pretty easy. and a couple projects. uses old questions on the main test. he just really picky about grammar its kind of funny.
He grades extremely hard, but he will let you know what you did wrong & how you need to improve your grade. He gives you multiple times to make corrections on quizzes and discussions and I enjoyed him this fall semester. I can't wait to take his summer class. Oh, one more thing, he does have lockdown browsers for final exams and midterms
Professor Akemon is understanding, patient, and willing to help you if you need it. He may come off as intimidating but he's not! His work is easy but he's a harsh grader, he does give helpful feedback. He offered us many chances to make up quizzes and homework. Midterm & Final are lockdown, studying quizzes will help :) Has Amnesty Week!
He can seem intimidating and blunt by the way he talks but he is not mean. He is very helpful if you just ask. Big on the class's participation. Workload is like the average high school honors social studies teacher. Lectures/note-taking, easy quizzes, and pretty small writing assignments. He provides study guide outlines for the midterm and final.
He is an amazing professor. Explains what he wants very clearly. Follow directions, read the material, post your discussions, and do well on the chapter tests and you will be fine. He conducts optional Zooms to explain the assignments to you and answer any questions about the chapters. Very good professor.
Not a single zoom recording, not a single slide show. All he did was quiz you on a textbook and write research articles without explaining a single assignment.
I really liked Mr. Akemon. He has really good lectures and tries to engage with his students. He does get sidetracked sometimes but the stories are interesting. Quizzes and discussion questions are easy (discussion questions just have to be 10 sentences or more). He's a tough grader with papers but it overall makes you a better writer.
He started off class by saying he had short-term memory loss and was a "proud hillbilly," so I was a bit intimidated. But I later found his classes interesting because he rambled about weird stories, which made class bearable.
As an online class, there wasn't much interaction with the professor—no Zoom meetings or recordings, mostly textbook reading. The class is easy to pass with time investment; quizzes and discussions aren't hard but require participation. He shares YouTube videos for added help. Could be improved but overall not the worst experience.
Nice and caring and grades like an English professor. He gives points off for a word that HE thinks should be capitalized. Gives one-time extra credit. He does amnesty week. He is late with grading and email responses. He gives great study guides. He requires you to respond to 1 classmate but doesn't give credit.
Very easy class. He is late on grading but willing to give extensions and retakes. His feedback is great, as well as the rubrics. Easy tests and exams with two chances each, questions will be different on the second attempt. All he does in class is read off powerpoints but he has great discussions in person.
Sucks. Grades harshly as if it's a damn English class. Takes all semester to grade. Lacks communication. Unorganized as some assignments are already marked “past due” at start of semester. Smh. Worst professor I've ever had.
