Awesome prof! The best Ive had
Very knowledgable professor; accessible for help and advice whenever; nice guy. Course is challenging but you should do OK if you keep up and study etc.
super hot and a great teacher, too.
makes this class so much more difficult than it needs to be. dont take it unless you are prepared to read upwards of 100-200 pages per week
really hot but a lot of reading. his exams are difficult
makes the course material very interesting
Professor Aday is knowledgeable, makes great jokes and is always interesting in lecture. He incorporates a lot of good TV clips into the course and adapts the material to what is going on in the world.
Hot Hot Hot!
Professor Aday is an incredible teacher that really makes you want to learn. He is very comical and provides great examples that pertain to journalism: clips, articles, etc. I wish he was a bit more outgoing but he is very knowledgeable, and its probably one of the most interesting classes you take
Clear and knowledgeable. My only complaints are that he thinks he is witty (he is not) and that he is too quick to preach his politics to the class.
Great professor- incredibly knowledgable, and treats his students with respect. He truly knows what he's talking about. The class is very difficult, but engaging. Be prepared for a lot of reading.
prof aday is pompous and and unhelpful. not very concerned about the welfare of his students. brisk, detached style. and whoever thinks he's hot is deluded...he's so old!
Funny, knowledgeable, but he expects you to know everything he knows about journalism, which becomes a problem on the tests. He also clearly tells people he's liberal, which I kind of find to be detrimental to know considering the subject matter (a lot of political talk). Otherwise, good!
If you're not at least leaning Dem...you may not find this class as funny or interesting...but he's a great lecturer...very funny...and very cute!
Not an easy professor. Going to lecture and doing the reading is necessary in order to do well on the tests. He assings A LOT of reading. He's pretty liberal (which some will like and others won't) and looks like Josh from the West Wing. To his credit, his lectures are very interesting. There is also a 6-page paper for his class.
I found the amount of reading to be very reasonable--for anyone interested in the topic it's more than worth keeping up with.
****. He's very intelligent but incredibly pompous. He's very hard and obnoxious. If you're not a major, this isn't the class for you. Journalism writing is 111, this is theory, which is completely unnecessary for majors. Don't take it unless you're required to (and business majors- dont use this for your reasoning w/e class... not worth it)
Incredible. The prof is brilliant and very excited about the subject. A LOT of hard work but well worth it. Made me choose Journalism as my major after taking class. Do NOT leave GWU without taking him
This class was just about perfect.
Professor Aday is captivating and entertaining. He definitely knows his stuff, and I highly recommend his class. I'm not a journalism major, but I still learned a lot and did well. Fair amount of reading, must go to class (which isn't hard - they're too interesting to miss most days).
Aday is great. He's very knowledgeable and into politics, which usually equates to pompous **** at this school, but I really don't think he is. If you're one of the freaks at this school who don't follow politics or read the daily paper, Aday isn't for you.
Aday is definitely pompous but he does know his stuff. A lot of reading, a lot of class notes on the test, definitely a hard grader.
Loved this class. He was a really great, engaging, intersting teacher, and if he was teaching another class I would take it in a second. He was a fairly difficult grader, and assigned a fair amount of reading, which he is very upfront about. As long as you talk to him a little you'll be fine. Great class-even if you're just interested in politics.
Aday Rocks!
ummm so basically, we all know the SMPA staff isnt the hot shot crowd. great to have a young teacher- tough grader, but fair. lots of reading but if you go to lecture you'll be fine. talk to him and let him know you're interested. if your name rings a bell to him, it means a great deal. witty, smart and with the right dynamic- an excellent class.
Really interesting, engaging lectures which feature current events and explains them very clearly. But do not take this class expecting an easy A. There is an abomidable amount of reading, tests are hard, and papers are graded harshly. Not that he's unfair, just very tough. Still highly recommended.
Not an easy grader, but interesting and funny lecturer. If you want to learn something, take the class, but don't expect an A.
His lectures are wonderful with useful information about the field. He relates much of the material to current events, making it accessible to students. He is a hard grader, but well worth the effort!
I never knew Journalism could be so sexy. Not only is Sean Aday extremely smart and funny he is good looking as well. He is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He makes the material interesting and I honestly get excited to go to class (not just b/c he is easy on the eyes), so take this class, you will not regret it.
I haven't missed one class yet.lectures are amusing, engaging & fun. He is an extremely reasonable person & understands that you are human beings with different interests & capabilities so he listens but accomodates and doesn't try to make tests impossible. He uses interesting current events to supplement the material we learn about
Sean Aday is one of the best professors I have ever had! He is engaging, funny, and is clearly a knowledgeable man. I am always very excited for class and have learned so much from him. As long as you take good class notes and do all the reading, you should be fine on the exams! AND HE IS HOTTTT!
Ok so I took this classs as a basic requirement, but it ended up being my favorite one of my semester. Not only is he freaking gorgeous but he really helps you out if you go to office hours, and his tests are not that bad as long as you keep up with the reading. Take this class.
Had him for INtro to Political COmmunication. Seriously, though, with him teaching it they might as well have caleld it "Intro to Academia." Not that great of a lecturer, classes and tests are based on boring and uniteresting readings, & you can tell he thinks he's the best prof in the world even though he's not. Not reccomended.
If you pay attention in class and just take the key terms out of the book (really easy since they're in the columns) this class is a breeze. Aday is very interesting especially if you are interested in politics.
Great teacher! A fantastic class to take. He's very liberal but also open to everyone's ideas...tests are fairly hard, but the lectures make up for it. Take it!
very interesting class, especially if you like politics and current events. hes so intelligent and witty its hard not to be attracted to him!! take really good notes in lecture and know reasons for concepts. not mandatory to see films because he goes over it so much in class. do the extra credit paper!
Aday is smart, funny, witty, and very charismatic. Class with him was always interesting and enjoyable. Then the first exam hits and you realize you have no clue what's going to be on it. Keep up with the textbook reading, pay attention to the larger themes he discusses...tests were very difficult.
I also had him for Intro to PoliComm. I thought the material was extremely interesting! He's a really funny guy, good lecturer. There's a lot of reading, but you don't have to literally read every word to get the main idea of them. You have to study for the tests, but if you do you can definitely do well!!
Interesting class, professor is a GREAT lecturer. The tests are much trickier than they seem. Attend class-don't miss two in a row, pay attention/take notes, and read textbook/articles assigned even though they are rarely mentioned in class. Themes that overlap in lecture and the readings are guaranteed to be on the tests.
Sean Aday's charming good looks and quick wit were enough to keep me present at every class. His lectures are interesting, but stray from the tested topics. Be sure to read thuroughly to balance it out.
Awesome professor. Awesome class. Take him if you can.
His teaching is interesting in class. He makes references like "Justin Timberlake pre-****-in-the-box". Don't be fooled - his tests are hard, it's not very clear what is going to be on them. All multiple choice, three exams make up your grade. Good class for most part, but not an easy A, even if you take it seriously.
really funny guy. great class. tests were kinda hard but his lectures made it worth it
Great, knowledgeable, funny and interesting guy. Interesting class, but your grade comes only from 3 tests and an extra credit essay he gave at the end of the semester. The tests are kinda hard and you may think you were well prepared but then get a lower than expected grade. Overall it was a good class and I recommend taking it.
Great lecturer;tests are multiple choice and questions can be tricky, so try not to overanalyze. Do come to class, b/c tests are basically straight from lecture, and his lectures are definitely worth it. There is a book, but you can get away with not reading it b/c he discusses the important things. Do the extra credit! Overall, great class.
He is an amazing professor. He is so hot you will never miss a class. I thought the class was really easy. The tests are straight from the lecture, I never opened the book once. He is very intelligent and straightforward.
This guy is great. Captivating lectures, interesting topics. Take this class you won't be sorry I promise.
Very, very easy. You'll want to go to class, just because it's interesting, and because all test material comes straight from lectures. You don't need to read the book, but it's helpful, and an interesting read. He's very charismatic and funny, makes every class enjoyable. Definitely one of my favorite classes so far!
He's the man. After Obama was elected president, he prepared a speech for class that nearly brought him to tears. At the final (last day of class), he made fun of our crotchety, haggish TA before he handed out the tests. Class is heavily related to politics, but it's so easy, interesting, and fun, that you'll love it no matter what.
Really fun and interesting man,not at all intimidating to approach(TA is an entirely different story...wtf was her problem?).I recommend this class to anyone interested in the media and how it works. The only problem people had was that he wasnt clear between what he was just talking about and what he was lecturing on, especially before the midterm.
Hardly attended a lecture all year and just had someone send me their notes. Easy midterm, easy final.. but don't mess up because those are the only two grades in the book. Awesome class, easy grade, really amusing (if you choose to go), and he is HOT. Take this class!
This class was decent. I didn't find the topic particularly interesting but that's just my personal preference. However, his sharp wit and charming personality made the class interesting and entertaining. The TA was wicked strange and weird, but Aday was approachable and helpful. Take it if you have an interest in politics or journalism.
He is fun to listen to and generally does a good job during lecture. Not sure who wrote the tests, but they were very badly put together. The subject material is quite easy, but the way he grades the tests and paper make it somewhat difficult to come away with an A, but also almost impossible to get below a B.
I would never consider skipping his lectures. He's makes topics easy to understand and constantly repeats certain things in each lecture so we know what to expect as important. It's sometimes hard to tell when he's talking and when he's lecturing & he seems kind of intimidating to talk to because the only ppl who talk in class are journalism buffs.
I don't know what happened, maybe I was distracted by the beauty of Mr. Sean Aday, but I didn't do so well. Having said that, it was a nice intro class that was packed with all the basic of the industry, and lectures were not bad at all. The exams threw me off, maybe because I have trouble with zoning out during class - take good notes and do well!
Great lecturer, looks like Kevin Spacey, pretty interesting material, did well but not as well as I thought, take this class!
Go to class, take good notes, and you should get an A or B easy. The lectures are usually interesting, the two multiple choice exams are relatively painless, and the paper is easy.
Professor Aday's class was definitely my favorite this year. It's not mandatory to attend, but his lectures are just that: lectures. He just talks about our topic for the day but he knows his stuff. Tests are easy, just know the definitions, it's all multiple choice. Very funny, easy to listen to, definitely best intro class at GW!
He is really funny and smart. Some lectures were dull, but overall a great class that taught me a lot.
This is an easy introductory course to take if you're not planning on majoring in SMPA. His lectures are clear and all you really need for the exams, which are multiple choice.
Professor Aday does not beleive in powerpoints therefore you need to make sure you stay alert and attend all of his lectures. Anything he says during lecture and anything in the readings is fair game for the exam so its a lot to study. The exams are only 25 questions so you do not have much room for error. However he does offer extra credit a plus.
Professor Aday know's his stuff. Extremely interesting class and he has many jokes that are actually funny. The only downside is that he will just talk and does not have any form of power points or notes. The tests can be hard if you dont go to class. Important to find and use a class study guide.
Fun and interesting class, basically an intro to journalism/media but no papers or articles to write, just three multiple choice tests that are really easy if you go to class and take notes. Recommended!
Aday is the best teacher I've had in my life. Not only is he just an overall hysterical human being, he is pretty hot. Being that I knew practically nothing about politics or media going into this class, it says a lot that I found his class easy to understand/follow and interesting throughout the entire course. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
I really liked the content of the class, and Professor Aday is a great guy. The multiple choice tests were horribly together, but I did really well on the paper. It was a good, interesting class overall, but don't take it if you're a bad testtaker like me.
On the surface, the class appears as a blow off, but its not! The lectures are intriguing and most of the readings are pretty interesting too. DO THEM- take notes on them too. There are two MC tests and one paper. It's important to do well on all of these! Study hard for this test otherwise you will regret it. Great teacher, listen to what he says!
iterally my favorite class! He is so funny and actually makes me want to sit in lecture. If you can take this class 100 percent do! 2 Tests and 1 paper. not to hard but do study a little...mostly just go to class. All in all actually learn a lot about media in our world without even forcing yourself. Very interesting.
He's so knowledgeable and interesting. The lectures were funny/intuitive and captivating. But you must go to class. The problem was he doesnt post lectures online and there is no textbook so what you write down in class is all you have for the midterm and final. The paper's tough but feasible to get a good grade in. Take it! But take good notes...
Tests were annoying, took random things from lecture. Only 2 tests and a paper. Not curved but really should be because they are hard. Seems like an easy class until you get your grade back. Great prof/funny but spends too much time in class talking about current events (election) and rushes on material. Not the best. Made me switch minor.
tests are annoying, he uses a lot of tricky wording to trip you up. Pay close attention to the readings, take notes on them, that's what the test material is on. he can be very vague, and he speaks very quickly making note taking difficult.
This class was AMAZING. Didn't even feel like a class- the assigned readings are all news articles and interesting scholarly articles on news, I read them when I want a break from homework. Aday is a gift from God- his lectures are hilarious, super informative, and engaging. One of my favorite profs.
I want to be the Donna Moss to his Josh Lyman.
Only 3 grades consisting of 2 exams and 1 paper, so if you are not a good test taker its not the easiest class. Not too much work overall, but learned a lot
Was very exited going in and by the end stop going to lecture all together. Ended up getting a B because grades are based on 1/3 paper, 1/3 midterm, 1/3 final. Tests are multiple choice and as long as you get good notes from someone you should be fine. Start the paper early! Lecture was a bit long for me but when I did pay attention it was interest
He makes the class fun. Although he basically lectures the entire time, it is very interesting and there is often class participation. I highly recommend taking one of his classes.
Really interesting stuff, easy to pay attention throughout the entire lecture. Take good notes though, and do the readings. Its so easy to fall behind on the readings but the midterm and final are on the readings as well as lecture so take REALLY good notes to pass.
Media in a Free Society is a class where I don't necessarily feel that I learned a lot, but enjoyed the experience and was able to reflect on the role of the media in the modern day. Professor Aday is engaging, if a little aloof, and the work (mostly reading) is manageable. If you're looking for reasonable general ed requirement filler, this is it.
Boring lectures with no powerpoints, confusing multiple choice tests. So far left that he makes me- a registered democrat-cringe. I lost interest in journalism because of him.
Lectures are interesting. Occasionally he will go off on tangents to illustrate what he is talking about, but his main point is usually clear. Exams are very heavy on lecture material, especially the final. He will normally discuss the readings in class so it is not always necessary to do them. Pay attention and you will learn a lot of good stuff.
This professor gave boring lectures, was unspecific on the tests and when seeking help did not provide any help on the class topics. The tests were impossible and the one paper was not any better. Tough grader, tough tests, don't take the class.
Great class even if you aren't interested in the subject. Professor Aday is funny and makes the class interesting. If you take good notes, you'll pass. Kinda seemed like he was making it up as he went along but he's really intelligent and I had a lot of fun in the class.
One of the worst professors I have had here at GWU
Do NOT take this class if you do not like politics. It is not what it is advertised to be. I would not take this course again. Prof. made this class hell.
Aday is not the greatest. He's incredibly cocky about the fact that he has tenure and will literally say and do whatever he pleases because "I don't care,I have tenure." In terms of his lectures, he is very anecdotal and provides vague slides. The TA was also useless, never offered help or even replied to e-mails.
Prof Aday has been the best professor I've had. He holds his students to a high standard, but he is willing to do anything to help them meet his expectations. His class is rigorous but enlightening and shapes his students' perceptions of the world. Go to office hours! You don't have to do all of the reading if you take meticulous in class notes.
Extremely knowledge and easy-to-understand professor. He truly cares about what he is talking about and makes his lectures engaging, funny, and interesting. People who complain about the difficulty either didn't show up to class or didn't read. If you show up regularly, read, and take good notes it is very manageable.
Great lectures, very knowledgeable. However, the only grades in the class are 2 scantron multiple choice exams and a paper, each worth 33% of your grade. Exams seemed to choose questions arbitrarily. No textbook for this class but he assigns articles to read. Read the articles. Doesn't take attendance but I recommend going to pass his exams.
Nice guy, but the grading system is a nightmare.
Very funny and easy class
Pretty easygoing professor with straightforward subject matter & lectures. Do the readings, they're important, especially the scholarly articles (Iyengar studies, etc.), and you'll do fine on the midterm and final. Attendance not mandatory, but advised. Also, all the readings are online articles and papers so you save money for textbooks.
People who complain about this class simply don't do the work. If you show up to class, take good notes, and do the readings, this class is such an easy A. His lectures are funny and engaging and I always look forward to going to class.
Prof. Aday was by far my favorite professor this semester and had me looking forward to his class every time. He is hilarious, keeps students engaged during lecture, and has a lot of expertise in his field. Class is graded on two VERY EASY tests and one paper. Go to class, pay attention, and you'll get an A. He makes me want to minor in SMPA!!
Aday is a really smart and funny guy. His lectures are mostly just him talking with very few slides. He knows a lot about media, so he often goes on tangents. Make sure you attend class and do the readings and youll do well on the 2 tests. Besides that, there is only 1 paper. Each assignment is a third of your grade.
Favorite class this semester. He cares deeply about the subject and is very knowledgeable. He goes over a lot of material per class so it's important to attend as many classes as you can, but an occasional miss is fine if you get someone else's notes. I would recommend to anyone interested in media/journalism, whether it is your major or not.
The class is not terribly difficult. There are two short multiple-choice tests and a 5-page paper. If you go to lecture, take notes, and study you will do well. I found the material to be very interesting. Professor Aday is a great lecturer. Not that much reading.
I thought this was gonna be an easy class, but it wasn't. I took really good notes during lecture, but I somehow still got a 76 on both the midterm and the final. He's super vague about what material is actually gonna be on the exams. On top of that, you only have 3 grades in the class: a midterm, final, and 1 paper.
Honestly the easiest class I have taken at GW thus far. 2 exams & a short paper. His lectures were actually interesting; he doesnt even take attendance. Just make sure you understand the main themes & look at the "summary" section of the various academic readings he assigns. Those who were saying it was "too vague" were just overthinking it. Easy A
Super funny guy and really good teacher. Never done any of the readings and was okay for the final and the midterm. One medium sized paper in between and if you know how to write and what you're looking for shouldn't take you longer than a week if you REALLY care. Would 100% recommend. Good class, good grades, happy student.
Super interesting and engaging lectures. You have to attend lectures to get all of the information. The midterm was very easy, and the final was a little bit harder. There's one medium paper that you get to choose your own topic for. Take this class!
Prof. Aday is really inspirational with how he gives his lectures. He's genuinely a professor and individual to look up to with his intellect and ability to engage. With that being said, you learn a lot of info supported by reading (A LOT of reading). For PoliComm it's natural to spend hours reading for a class but it was very exhausting at times.
Aday is a great guy with interesting lectures. This is a great class to take as an elective. However, the class is not an easy A IMO. Your grade is 2 tests and a paper. I got a 97% on both tests and a 75% on the paper. Many of my friends got Cs on both tests. It depends on how much you study for the tests. He gives no guidance for the tests.
Had him for my intro class in SMPA so I sort of knew what to expect for Media and War, but we had hundreds of pages to read each week, as well as two to three movies. That said, he's very passionate about the topic.
Prof. Aday was really great for SMPA 1050. His lectures are engaging and not painful at all. He makes the class funny and interesting. The only thing I didn't like is that there are only 4 grades, 2 tests and 2 papers, so they are weighted a lot each. He is very accessible and responds to emails fast.
Aday is a good teacher! He is engaging and really funny and gives you freedom on your assignments. There are very few grades, his lectures are a bit long and he does not grade on participation despite discussion opportunities which can be a little annoying but overall a good teacher. He is really knowledgeable on the class and is really accessible
sean is a cool and experienced professor, but there are only 4 grades in the class. the midterm and final were some of the hardest exams i've ever had to take at GW. very unclear what would be on the exams. the papers were graded by the TA who took off unecessary points. if you can take this class w a different professor do it, cuz this hurt my GPA
Professor Aday is still one of my favorite lecturers of all time. He's witty and his sense of humor is hilarious if you find political satire funny. The real life examples he uses to discuss journalism, media and politics is phenomenal. The tests however are weirdly tricky-- they're multiple choice and count a lot for the final grade!
I have really enjoyed his class, graded by midterm, final, and 2 papers... You just need to understand the general concept and you will be fine. His lectures use real-life examples and conceptions which make them really enjoyable and he is an interesting man! would take his class again hands down!
genuinely the man i love most in this world. 10/10 professor. 10/10 human. super understanding and just all around a good guy.
had a lot of fun in this class, prof aday is very funny and knowledgeable. the tests are weirdly hard and you only get graded for two papers and two exams.
Love Aday! Such a funny and cool dude, and has done lots of research around war and media. Lectures are a PowerPoint he lectures over, and I found it really important to go to class despite the lack of an attendance grade. Lots and lots of reading, which is expected of an intro to Poli Comm class. Only 4 grades, so not a lot of wiggle room.
Professor Aday has been my favorite professor thus far at GW. His lectures are consistently fascinating and extremely informative. The only caveat is that 50% of the grade in the class is based upon 2 essays, which are graded fairly harshly. if that appeals to you, this is the class for you. I would highly endorse taking Media in a Free Society.
This class is made of two papers and two tests. Aday assigns many readings for each class and lectures through class time. A lot of the material is common sense, so if you review the readings before an exam you'll get an A. The first paper is difficult, so please go to OH!! He gives amazing feedback and is genuinely a caring, great guy
Loves this class and professor Aday. His lectures were amazing, filled with good information and cool stories from his own experience. 2 paper and 2 tests, both are very easy. You will be fine if you go to class and take notes on the readings. Readings aren't bad, mostly interesting articles. Highly recommend this teacher and class.
Profs class is my favorite! His lectures were so engaging and interesting. Studying for his midterm and final was so easy study the powerpoints and focus on main concepts. papers were graded pretty fairly but always ask for feedback! He is also a pretty quick replier to any emails. TAKE HIS CLASS! YOU WONT REGRET IT!
Prof Aday is a very knowledgeable person. He provides a lot of background knowledge and stories during class which was very beneficial for anyone interested in journalism. Although the class grades on only 2 exams and 2 essays, the TAs can be very tough on grading and give very vague feedbacks, so prepare to read and write well for this class.
Lectures are super interesting and he often tries to include humor. Midterms and finals are really easy, just study "SMPA 1050" Quizlets the night before. Definitely an easy A if you put in a modicum of effort. Work hard on the two papers and you won't have to sweat the whole semester.
Prof. Aday is an amazing teacher and person. Super interesting class. Great at presenting info. Very helpful and responsive during office hours and by email. Cares a lot. Lots of reading & each assignment worth 25%, but he's always accessible to ask questions & prepare for these assignments. You will learn a lot. Great professor, highly recommend!
Professor Aday makes the lectures very enjoyable. He knows a lot about the subject and adds lots of humor to the lectures. He only has 4 grades throughout the semester, 2 papers and 2 exams. Also, there are daily readings that you should complete before every class although he won't check if you did read or not.
Intelligent lecturer. It was clear from day 1 he loved the subject of media. Inaccessible, sort of disappeared as soon as the clock signaled that class was over, but the lecturers were very clear + office hours. Very quick to respond to emails, sympathetic about deadlines if there was a serious reason you missed it. Only 2 papers and midterm/final.
Professor Aday is a great lecturer and I learned a lot in his class. He is also very good at handling difficult discussions involving politics. However, he does not grade papers himself and the TAs' feedback is not helpful
Interesting class with a passionate lecturer. Grade depends on 2 tests and 2 papers, which can be good or bad. Tests aren't hard if you take good notes and review. I suggest doing the readings, but he does go over what's necessary. If you put your best effort into the papers and run them through Grammarly you'll be fine, though feedback is minimal.
Prof. Aday is an amazing professor and his lectures are engaging. While the course only had two papers, a midterm, and a final he provides lots of information before so you know what to focus on. He does assign a lot of readings and a majority of the questions on the final were related to readings, not lecture material, so keep that in mind.
Prof. Aday not only teaches an amazingly interesting class, with very simple and doable assignments, but is an amazing person outside of class. It might be only two months into the semester, but Aday has already made an impact on me, and has helped me decide my major. TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!
Professor Aday is such a genuine and caring professor who is super passionate about what he teaches. Don't fall behind on lectures or readings, and you'll be fine for the midterm. Papers are easy too. TAs are accessible and eager to help with writing. Definitely take this class!
Prof Aday is very knowledgeable in his field. The lectures are long but very interesting, everything covered in them is in a powerpoint posted on blackboard. There are not a lot of grades so there is a heavy emphasis on papers and tests. The only complaint I have is that he does not grade the papers, the TAs do and they are not the most helpful!!
Favorite class of the semester! Prof. Aday is such a great lecturer. 2 papers, a midterm and a final (tests are in class). Everything is graded by TA's. There are readings that aren't necessary, good to read, but his lectures are integral to the learning in the course. I am not in SMPA but I will be trying to take his class again in the future.
AMAZING. Professor Aday is not only knowledgable, but is so passionate about the course material. Media in Free Society is honestly a course every american in college gotta take. Interesting, very straight-forward, and both professor Aday and the TA's are all helpful.
Prof. Aday is such an amazing lecturer and very passionate about journalism! The class covers a variety of topics related to the media, and is only graded on two papers and two tests. I would recommend keeping up with the readings for each class, which will benefit you later when it comes to studying for the midterm and the final.
Professor Aday is incredibly knowledgable, and his presentations are super interesting. He gives you all the resources and knowledge you need to do well in his class- and he posts lecture notes on Blackboard. Super great professor and sets clear expectations.
Great lecturer. One midterm, one final, and two papers graded by TAs, all four are worth 25% of your grade. Make sure to discuss the paper with TAs since most of them are harsh graders. Lectures are fun and interesting and I suggest attending since most test questions are from the lectures.
My problem is more with his TAs than him. I got a bad grade on 2 essays because the TAs were extremely nitpicky, and even after bringing this issue to Aday, he only helped a little by raising the grade a small bit because he felt the need to have his TA's back.
Engaging lectures and helpful TAs. Though some paper grading can be nitpicky, the professor is knowledgeable and passionate. Definitely use resources like unstuck ai alongside the free textbook to excel.
Pretty average class. Only graded by two exams and two papers. Exams are fairly easy, but you need to essentially memorize the lecture slides. The papers aren't bad either (easy prompts and short in length), but what really matters is who your TA is -- they make or break your grade honestly. Interesting class overall, and professor is really nice!
Proffesor Aday is an all-around excellent person to teach you Media in a Free Society. He is so knowledgable, and the course content itself is super interesting. This was by far my favorite class this semester, can't reccomend Proffesor and this class enough.
I LOVED Media in a Free Society with Aday. His teaching style made me a PoliComms double major. Take literally anything he teaches, you will not regret it. He loves teaching, and will share anything interesting with his students. He builds each semester off of current events, so everything is super poignant & not outdated.
Easily my favorite professor that semester. The only person I have had that makes a lecture interesting becuase he utalizes current events and his personal beliefs. He is respectful of everyone's beliefs, even when he doesn't agree but is not afraid to question your ideas to learn more about your thought process. If you like lectures, no one better
I actually loved this class and the Prof so much. If you need a random class to take, take this one with him lol. Easy to do well. Lecture slides are posted and TAs are helpful. Content shaped on current events which was interesting. Graded on 2 papers and 2 MC midterms. Overall good guy and knows what he's talking about
I really enjoyed this class, however the lectures can be very boring. It's easy to think you can skip class because he always posts the slideshows, but the midterm and final are very lecture based so I recommend going. There are two papers, one opinion/argument and one research paper. Overall easy class and would take again.
Aday is the BEST! Take this course. The content is so interesting, the lectures are extremely engaging, and the exams are super low stress. Not only is Aday passionate, but he has a wealth of knowledge. TAs are available for help with papers. Aday is flexible, always willing to help, & is available frequently outside of class.
Professor Aday's lectures are incredible and his course really made me think critically about the news and media I consume. He responds to emails quickly and the tests are low-stress. However, the TAs are frustratingly tough graders which is difficult when there is only four assignments worth 25% each. The TAs are not always in their office hours.
Professor Aday is so knowledgable and passionate about this class and it shines through in his lectures. He is so well versed on the topics and I was never bored!
I LOVED Prof. Aday. Such an interesting class that he's clearly well-informed and passionate about. Even if you're not a journalism student, you will get a ton out of this class. Just go to lecture, do the readings, and actually study for the midterm and final and you'll do well.
Professor Aday was one of my favorite professors last semester. He is a great lecturer. He is very engaging and is always willing to answer any questions. He gives a lot of readings but they are short. The midterm and final are really easy if you take good notes in lecture and on the readings. Overall, a great class and great professor.
