I dropped this class, moving to another class after only two sessions. PRO: Good Heart – Nice guy – Friendly Down to Earth CON: Newbie teacher – not organized – strayed from syllabus based on one student’s complaint – not in control of the classroom To his credit - class of ~40 people marginal in intellectual and social maturity.
He is so helpful and nice. You need to do all rough drafts and alot of response papers to get a good grade, tho'. He is cute in a professor kind of way. He made me like going to class.
He is really a great and helpful teacher. I take him two quarters. He helped me a lot in my grammar and structure of my essay. Not a tough grader. Just need to show up at class and do all his work then you can get A. Good teacher for international student.
Great teacher. He is willing to help you when you need it, and is all around a good guy. I would recommend him. Hes not a hard grader. Just as long as you do your work you will get an A.
Very nice guy will help when you ask. He grades more on an effort to improve then your actual skill.
He is the best teacher in Bellevue Community College.
Never really talked to him, but he was nice. Had him for my Reading Lab teacher, but I only dealt with the T.A.'s, which were VERY nice and reading lab helped me a lot in my English Class.
Sean is a great professor. A handful of papers to write. Peer editing for each of them. Typical ENGL 101 class. Fairly easy grader, but I took him in 2006. He wrote me a recommendation letter, which I appreciated. Pretty easy-going overall.
Very helpful teacher. If you have any questions, he is always willing to give you the extra help. Always positive, supportive and never says anything negative. If English is not your strong suit, take his class and he will get you up to speed.
i have a good feeling about this one he is very helpful hes a nice teacher he seems easy
He's a pretty easy teacher. He is always positive even if you answer a question wrong. The homework load was pretty low. He also helps people individually in class. I highly reccomend him especially if you dont like english. I am in his class for a 2nd qtr(092)
Prof. Sean is a great instructor. He is a very friendly, respectful, and helpful. will answer questions all the time. He even offer to help after class. I like to take his class, and would take his class again. I recommend to take his class.
Good instructor
Sean is a great instructor, very helpful and kind to his students. No matter how poor you seem to his class, he wont get angry at you or single you out from class. instead, on conference days he will motivate you and keep you updated on what you need to work on. He makes sense when he talks. He just doesn't talk too much. GREAT, HELP-FULL & KIND.
He is a very good instructor. I recommend him to anyone want to take English 093.
Sean is a great instructor to have. Because this class isn't a college level class, I feel like the material he thought was quite simple and rudimentary. Our essays prompts were quite decent. Despite the class being quite easy, I would recommend him due to his ability to help you if you were struggling in the class.
hey allen!! you are just awesome!!!! nothing to recommend you!! I love his teaching style. I was in 073, and when I have difficulty studying, he always helped me. I will not recommend him. If you are looking for a good professor I highly remommend him.
Sean is a VERY good teacher. he cares about the students and will help you succeed. i learned alot in his class and it was actually fun for me. i would want him as a teacher again.
he is really easy going in the class and you don't have any stress. the more important thing for him is that bring all you'r paper at the special time and always be on time. i will take 101 with him
I cannot understand why students like him! His classes are so boring and we didn't learn anything of his class. Everyday he just told us open the book and read it for half hour ( at class ) or taking coffee... YOU won't learn anything of his class.
Really hate writing especially write for essays... but somehow this class change my attitude. I appreciate to have such a nice teacher. He do cares about students and care about what they might struggle with during the class. I want to follow his 201...
He is a very nice teacher. He is ready to help his students all the time. He spend extra time on weak students. I took English 073.Now i am enrolled in his English 093 class.
I love Mr. Allen! He is one of the kindest teachers you will ever have. He is the most flexible teacher you will ever come across. He did not discount you for turning in late work as long as you put effort into it.
Very helpful and very clear. Always give positive feedback. Cares for the students. He is really a great teacher.
He is the best professor i never had !
He is not easy, but great teacher. Be ready to work super hard in his class, but it is worth it.
It is not true that Sean is easy. He is redy to help his studets but if you are not studying, you will never get an A. You should work hard in his class!!!!
I'm very glad that I had a chance to be in Sean Allen's class. I learned a lot from him. I have never written a research paper before. If you want to get a distinguish in his class, you should to put your hard work in. It was not an easy class but if you study hard you will get a good grade. I'm looking forward to take next class with Sean Allen
Sean is the best English teacher you can meet at BC. Make sure to attend the class, write all the papers, and you're solid.
I love professor Allen! He's very chill about pretty much everything. He loves making corny jokes in class. He cares very much about his students and his very helpful if you have any obstacles. However, he can be a bit unclear with our tasks and essays.
Sean is awesome. easy A. 3 essays only, highly recommended like take him no for real take him okay
Sean was my first English instructor in BC, and he is the only instructor that I highly recommend to take again. Best of the Best. What he needs you to do, he will remind you so don't worry that you will miss or late for any work. He helps you to get a good grade for your essay (very very helpful) if you want an A. Take his class right away
He is the best English teacher I ever had. He is very nice and helpful. His class is not boring because he always make something interesting for students ;)
definitely one of the chillest teachers out there, although this class is mandatory i would probably take it again, i highly recommend my boy sean as ur 101 teacher
Professor arrives late (or cancels) and is often unprepared for class. He constantly appears incredibly unaware. Course materials are not utilized, class is full of busy work, and essays are a waste of time. Instructions are unclear and due dates are rarely communicated.
Sean Allen's class is by far the easiest I have ever taken. Cancels class often, does not take attendance, simple and few assignments. A bit of an odd personality (understatement) but quite entertaining. Most of class was spent laughing. Take only if you want to whiz through the class.
He was an awesome teacher. If you make some effort in your papers, it's an easy A. 4 essays in total. Requires some research. Highly recommend!!!
Professor put minimal effort into teaching. He was late a lot, he cancelled class multiple times with little to no warning, and he took forever to grade papers. He tried to be funny, but failed and seemed awkward standing in front of the class. On the plus side, if you can write, you will have no problems receiving 100%.
I can understand why so many international students like him. He's very lenient and understanding and make due dates flexible. I can say that Eng 201 is not as easy as what others have stated on here. It required a lot of reading and writing, but if you're a good writer, you will do just fine.
Sean is one of the best professors at BC. I took his class over the summer. The class wasn't that tough as I had expected. You'll get an A with minimum effort. Highly recommend his class.
Sean is a great teacher, but it seems like he does not do his job correctly. I like him, but he needs to be more serious in classes. I feel like he just tries to help students that don't speak English very well, and that's what English speakers hate. (Sean, be more serious, give more good feedback, don't be late to classes, don't give everybody As)
Sean seems good-hearted but often comes to class late and unprepared. The work is not very challenging and he gives easy As. I wish he had higher expectations for students and put more effort into teaching.
Sean is often late and cancels class without notice. It takes a long time to get papers back. He shows up unprepared and distracted and uninspiring. He is helpful though when you ask for help.
Teacher was late a lot. He was also late in giving papers back. Lots of busy work. Did not take teaching seriously. Tried to please but inauthentic, very distracted, talked about random things, awkward. I dont recommend this teacher.
Sean is one of my best instructors. He really cares about his student. He gives everybody many chances to improve their grades. His class was interesting, he has a unique way to spread his knowledge. The English 201 class is so difficult, and Sean is a great instructor to go with. As long as you finish all your homework assignments, you'll be fine.
He is the BEST professor at Bellevue College, he really cares about students. It is super easy to get A in his English 101 class. Please taking his class !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Worse teacher ever.
Teacher was not prepared and late often. He gave attention to young women students in class. I didnt feel challenged. I had hard time understanding his English, lectures, jokes.
Showed us lots of videos and movies that interact with what we were learning. And very fun and interactive in the class. I would love to take one of his classes again.
I took this class online and it was impossible to get ahold of Sean. I emailed him multiple times and never got a response. I had to call his office phone, leave a voicemail and then he emailed me back once and never responded to my follow up email. If you're someone that gets confused on assignments, take his online class with a grain of salt.
Online classes with Sean was more than easy, or I would say with no learning. I never got feedback from papers, explanations about papers are on your own, and if you want an example, it's all on files. Don't even try to contact him (he will never answer emails). Overall no learning easy pass.
Take this class if you want an easy A. Sean does not respond to emails and is hard to get ahold of. All you have to do is one assignment a week. He didn't teach us any new material until 4 weeks into the quarter. Everything you write will be graded last minute. I had like 4 papers graded within 3 hours a day after the quarter ended and got an A.
Take this class if you're only here for the credit. In total, the class had a whooping total of 6 (short) assignment the entire quarter. If you're someone who asks lots of questions or likes feedback on papers, this teacher is not for you. No matter how many times you email him, absolutely no reply! The only thing he cares about is his late policy.
Today is the last day of finals and he has not inputted ANY grades yet. There was seven discussion posts (20 points each), a summary assignment (100 points), an annotated bibliography (50 points), and the final ten page research paper (400 points) for the whole class. The assignments are easy. Not much guidance. No feedback.
The professor never replied to any of the messages and he gave the grades of the assignment at the last minute.
No feedback at all. Almost all assignments were graded on the last day of the class. Would not recommend.
The course calendar did not match up with what we did. So I had no idea what I was supposed to be doing. Nothing gets graded unless its easy stuff like the intro discussion. Does not answer emails/questions until weeks later or not at all. Overall confusing because I have had weeks with no work to do for this class. Basically learn nothing.
EASY A. If you are looking for a class to get lots of feedback on your writing, this class isnt for you. We only had three essays for my quarter with a couple of individual assignments in-between. He graded all the assignments/essays at the end of the quarter, which put me on edge, but he grades pretty easily. Do all tasks, guaranteed A.
Sean is a checked-out professor. See previous reviews. It took weeks for feedback! Weeks! This is a kick the can professor so BEWARE. If you take his class, you will not be prepared for more challenging coursework. Easy A -- sure. But as I'm learning in 201, this professor did nothing to prepare me for success in my more challenging classes.
Do NOT take this professor if you want to learn anything! If all you want is an easy A, then he is the one for you. He assigns very few assignments with vague instructions that he doesn't even teach about. He is extremely unprepared and will never respond to any emails. He cancels class most of the time and when there is class it's a waste of time.
I actually took ENGL 237: Writing Fiction I. We had three assignments throughout the quarter and the final was to revise one prior assignment. He didn't grade anything until after the quarter was over, and didn't give any feedback whatsoever. I tried emailing him and there was no response at all. I ended with a 100%, but didn't learn much from him.
WORST EVER!! Literally never responded to any of my emails and I got zero feedback and I had no grade all quarter until after the quarter was over and I had a C. I have gotten A's in every English class I have taken and I was very disappointed in this teacher.
Sean Allen was absent from any and all teaching during the quarter. Didnt have lectures or educate us in any way. Didnt adhear to a single part of the syllabus or even grade our essays till the quarter was over. Additionally didnt reply to a single email and gave an essay assignment that was due a week after the quarter ended. Would not take again.
Good at making sure we knew how to write about topics, formats, quick to answer email. For final, gave us a general idea of what he was looking for but not explained. Had a vague rubric but was a ten page paper and I hadn't written one that long before, was unprepared. Would cancel or come to class late and cancel meetings last minute regularly.
Very unresponsive. Graded everything to the last second but he gave me an A- so I would say the class is mediocre.
Sean was very absent from the course. Clear expectations were in the syllabus, but he didn't follow any of it. He never provided feedback on writing assignments despite that being part of the course nor kept up with giving assignments per the schedule. None of my work was read or graded properly. My A+ was only by participation, not by effort.
This dude has no education in English -- he is the kind of person who needed to find a job in education because he couldn't find one any where else: ya, he's one of those: stay far away
Asian women beware of this teacher. He is a sweaty pedi Take online if you must
want a professor with no graduate degree in English? He's your dude. Wasted an entire quarter with this low rent bull#### prof I want real teachers! Sean is a not one.
He was late and cancelled class several times, making up the excuse that his Dad died, but looking at the reviews here, Idk if I believe it. Had to CC the head of the English department in an email to get him to grade an assignment he said I didn't do. We had to see him in his office to get feedback on writing. Didn't see him being creepy
Seriously! See previous post. Thought I was wrong, but nope!. He is checked out teacher without credentials to teach English. I had no idea why he never showed up for classes. I know now. Just get a different teacher. It's sad to read a teacher would bring up his dead father as an excuse for not doing his job.
Great professor, he understood all my difficulties and it was so interesting in his classes
I saw Professor Allen as a GREAT professor. He was very kind to his students and he only cancelled class about 2 times and was very open with his announcements and easy to access if you had any questions to ask him at his office hours. I received a very high A in his class, and there are many assignments to do to raise and contribute to your grade.
This guy was nice enough, I guess. But if you want feedback, don't go. It's the end of the quarter; I'm about to do my fourth essay, and he hasn't graded anything. He didn't show up to class once because he only told a few people the class was canceled, so a majority of the class showed up for nothing. He was always late. Do not recommend him
Hes always 5 minutes late. 4 essays, its the last day of the quarter and im STILL waiting for him to grade ESSAY ONE I submitted back in EARLY JARNUARY. Doesn't give feedback. Doesn't use canvas to announce hes not coming to class, we have to wait 20 minutes and leave. not a tough grader though, almost no classwork. you usually only watch movies.
Never gave me feedback. I reached out MULTIPLE times before essays were due because the instructions made NOO sense, and he never responded back to me. DO not even try emailing him, you wont get one back. Overall easy if you need credit and only 4 essays, but goodluck I would not recomend him at all.
Was never clear on instructions on essays and didn't really learn new material or how to improve my writing. Also never answers emails so don't bother asking any questions. Publishes assignments late as well and instructions are never clear. Essay topics are really vague as well.
Although the assignments were interesting, teacher feedback was minimal. I think he only reads the thesis statement.
If I were to be honest, I learned next to nothing during this class. Had canceled in-person classes multiple times, but when we did have class, it felt like a waste of time. low-effort classwork, yet he seems like a good guy but not the best instructor.
No, you will not learn a single thing in this class. The only way he communicates to you is via assignments. His grading speed is as slow as a brick, but he doesn't put things off to the VERY last minute. Essay grades will not be out in two weeks like he said. If you want an easy class this is it, but he also has unclear criteria's for assignments.
-Few assignments, docks 10 points by every day submitted late for essays -4 essays, few discussion posts, 2 seminar papers, peer reviews, essay revisions, 2 smaller writing assignments, 1 in-class assignment, 1 online quiz -Didn't grade a few of the assignments I completed -Doesn't always tell when classes are cancelled -Doesn't teach how to write
I feel so far I haven't learned much from his class, however it is quite easy and we watch episodes of black mirror OFTEN. Overall very chill class.
Take this class if you don't want to learn anything and just want an easy pass. I genuinely did not learn anything in his class, his assignments are mostly discussions and essays but a lot of the time the instructions are unclear. Overall he's a nice person but you'll likely not learn anything from his class.
He didnt give us much work but the work it self is sad and depressing. I learned nothing from this guy and honestly he just made us watch black mirror. Also he still grade really slow and not grade until the end of this quarter, if you want to learn nothing and wait for 3 months to grade get him.
The only reason his rating is mid is because he does not really give insightful lectures/teaching, but his class is easy. Essay gradings are light and attainable. He does seem unprepared or cancels class, but it didn't bother me and understood when I had a conflict and considerate if you talk to him and as long as you are respectful.
I don't know what professor Allen does with his days, but its certainly not grading assignments or making lesson plans. All we did in class was watch black mirror episodes or listen to him rant about elementary level writing concepts. Doesn't read past the thesis statement. Easy A.
