Aweful professor. Is not helpful, Cannot talk publically. Assignements are pointless and not a consistant greading scale. Avoid at all costs. Your semester will be ruined.
This class is not bad at all. If you come to class for attendance and do the papers he asks you'll atleast get a B. Deadlines are unclear, teachings sort of sporatic, but not a bad prof to take. Just remember he is new!
Ford is arrogant and thinks very highly of himself. Class is hard to pay attention to because he is constantly tapping his foot and clearing his throat. His papers are very unclear, and lets his class sit in silence while he tries to lead a discussion. Even with going to writing center, as he suggests, have not gotten better then a B- on a paper
This class was difficult to come to, he would talk a lot and 95% of the time, no one was listening. His assignments are unclear and I never felt like I knew what he was expecting of us. We had at least one paper per week assigned.
Sean Ford is the worst professor I have ever had! You can ask simple questions and he will ramble on forever and not even answer your question. To top it off the assighnments were horrible and he never told you what he exactly wanted. I suggest to stay away from this man and his class!
Ford is a really interesting guy in general. His knowledge of literature is crazy. He expects a lot on papers but he is really good at telling you before hand what he wants on it. He is also really helpful in his office hours so just go ask.
He's the worst prof ever. He can never clarify on what exactly he wants, especially on papers. No one in class really understands what he's talking half of the time. I wouldnt recommend taking him.
I feel that Dr. Ford really knows what he's teaching. There are a good number of papers but its not unbearable. Pay attention to the handouts he gives you for assignments and you will do well. Grading is fair but attendance counts towards the final grade. He is very willing to help even outside of class. I liked him.
Dr.Ford is TERRIBLE!!! He is very smart and knows alot about literature, but he expects you to know as much as he does. Hard to listen to hard class to go to DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I did not like his class AT ALL. There is a lot of reading of short stories... which are NOT short. Discussions in class are not engaging and he tells things from stories that he sees which make no sense and no else sees them. He rambles on and on. Hard to stay awake. Nice guy, but I would not take another class from him and neither should you
This class was terrible, Dr. Ford is a terrible teacher. He knows his stuff, but is SO UNCLEAR about what he wants from you. You will think you did great on a paper, and he'll give a D. Lots of useless busy work, hard to listen to him talk. Do NOT take him, avoid it at all costs.
Dr. Ford knows what he is talking about but he cant spit it out. He stumbles over his words and stutters all the time which makes it hard to listen to. His assignments are unclear and its hard to know exactly what he wants. You think you did on a paper and you get it back and you did terrible. Other teachers think he's a joke. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
Professor Ford was not a great professor. He was the most unclear teacher I have ever had in giving out assignments. He also has trouble with class participation due I think partly he never takes anything for any face value. Would not recommend him if only he was more clear.
i could go on forever about how TERRIBLE ford is!!!! He is the worst teacher I have ever had, he is unclear about everything he asks of you. You think you do good on a paper or busy work assignment and he'll give you a C on it. He has a HORRIBLE grading system and he is all in all the WORST TEACHER AT EAU CLAIRE!!! AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!!!!!!
Expect to be challenged, and it may take a few weeks to figure out his style of writing. Otherwise, brilliant professor! He is wise beyond his years, and brings up intriguing issues. Great class...expect to learn a lot.
Ford...what a JOKE. He is very unorganized, unclear, and stutters worse than anyone I know. He grades suuper hard! AVOID HIM...DONT TAKE THIS CLASS
Professor Ford is a great guy. You will be challenged in his class, but it is completely worth it in the end. He is a very wise man, and respects every one of his students. He listens to what his students have to say. There is a lot of busy work, but it is not hard to do well in this class. I would advise taking him!
I have no idea why everyone dislikes Prof. Ford. I found classes mostly pointless but engaging nonetheless. He is very laid back, super nice and understanding, and more than willing to talk with you outside of class. I haven't spent more than a few hours on a paper yet and have got A's on em all. Think twice before you believe the horror stories.
Dr. Ford has a hard time saying what he needs to say. It's like he loses his train of thought, so he stutters. He grades really hard, even though he always gives positive comments. Don't get it. Class is boring and he talks more at the class than to the class.
Ford is a really nice guy but if you are looking for an A in his class good luck. He will write all positive comments and then give you a B-. I have gone to his office hours and most of the time is a waste. Conversations in class are engaging but have nothing to do with what we are suppose to be learning. It is a frustrating experience.
Do NOT take a class with this guy. He's a really hard grader, and his comments are incredibly unclear. My roommate's English 110 teacher assigned one chapter of a novel every week for about 12 weeks, and Professor Ford made us read the entire book in one week. GOD. Seriously, avoid him at all costs.
I almost never knew what was going on in class, but I still got a pretty decent grade. Maybe it's the honors bias, but he told us on the last day that he would try to be as favorable as possible in grading us. Really smart guy, but sometimes he can't get out what he wants to say. Directions and discussions not always clear but still, fair grader
I really liked Prof. Ford. He is super nice and helpful. The class is very difficult in regards to lots of writing and reading to do... But if you're having trouble just go talk to him. He is super helpful. To do decently... all you have to do is put forth some effort.
Most unreasonable grader ever. He could care less on how well you write. His bias is if he thought your paper was boring or not. I regret not taking a better, more comprehensible teacher.
I very much enjoyed this class. Plenty of class discussion and helpful feedback on papers. I could relate to Dr. Ford on pretty much everything he talked about. Extensive study of Nathaniel Hawthorne, if you're into that. He's very entertaining, to me. I'd take this class again.
Dr. Ford is a very smart, laid back prof. He will challenge you, and press you to keep up with his deadlines. If you start falling behing, it may feel like a lot. He is NOT a monster. He grades fairly, and is not biased. Take him and be ready for a good deal of work and semi-dry humor. I'd take him again.
he's great. and hilarious. that's all. :)
Professor Ford's class was a very helpful class. He always pushed me in my writing and I think he was a very fair grader. He is probably one of the funniest professors I've had in the English department thus far. He is always willing to help if you stop in during his office hours. I really enjoyed his "smoke breaks" during our class.
well, i see many of good comments here about this frofessor. Anyway, if i had a change to advise: "AVOID HIM AT ALL COST, DO NOT BELIEVE ANY POSSITIVE COMMENTS HERE !!!". Somehow, i think he might rate for himself, just sayin :D
Avoid avoid avoid. terrible class, avoided answering my questions directly and was very cryptic with his answers. I did not like this class at all and did not learn much. would not recommend him
Seemed like this professor thought highly of himself. He also seemed peculiar, and dark, even though he was not intimidating. I would not take him again as I have heard others say the same.
Mr. Ford was the worst professor that I have encountered in my college career. His grading system is a sham. His lectures are boring as crap. I was glad to see seven pages of comments like this and I hope he can see them so he would know what his former students thought of his PhD (what a joke). I would discredit anything nice that you may hear.
COMPLETELY AWFUL! I met with him three different times, each for almost an hour, for one paper and only got a c on the paper, even after correcting every mistake and suggestion he told me to.
Avoid Ford if you can. His classes are super boring and he is a really hard grader. It was my worst class of the semester when I was expecting it to be interesting and fun.
Best teacher I have ever had. It is apparent that only stupid people struggle in his class and come on this website to complain. Keep up the good work Sean!
Professor Ford is a very philosophical man, so papers challenge you to think. I met with him a couple times outside of class and it really did help. It is difficult to get an A, but I believe my writing has been strengthen. Take him if you actually want to experience what a decent college class is like, if you're lazy then don't.
Horrible teacher. Nothing he says makes any sense and when you try to have him explain he just makes you feel dumb. the expectations for the class are never clear and none of the students even knew what we were supposed to be learning. his grading of papers is not accurate at all. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU WANT TO KEEP A GOOD GPA!
This was the worst class I have ever taken in college. I would not recommend this professor to anyone.
Ford really does have everyone's best interests in mind. If you meet with him outside or class, it helps a lot. He does grade a little hard, but he does it to make your writing better. Don't avoid taking him, just avoid taking him early in the morning as the actual class time can be quite boring.
Sean's a pretty hard grader and a little picky about writing style, but if you contribute to discussions in class that seems to earn you points in his book. Don't take this class if you don't want to be challenged by difficult writing assignments and complex readings.
Dr. Ford is one of the best professors I have had. He is surprisingly comical, cunning and witty. I thoroughly enjoyed this class and discussions were thought provoking and helpful.
One of those classes I went to half the time just to see what was happening. He explains things fairly well but doesn't integrate the classroom discussions well. Nice to talk to outside of class. The essays are a little wonky but I wrote them all the day of and ended up with A's so there's hope for you too!
The class time is actually fairly boring, as he seems to have a difficult time getting the entire class to participate. his readings are challenging and grading is very hard. However, he is a very funny guy with lots of energy. overall great guy, not a great proff however
He is a nice guy but... He runs in circles when he talks. Class is boring because he cannot get the class to participate (nobody knows what ? he just asked.) Papers are IMPOSSIBLE! He is so wordy and unclear with what he wants not to mention he is a TOUGH grader . You can go to him for help but be prepared to walk out even more confused!
Really fun class, but the homework is difficult and his grading is hard.
Cant stand the guy as prof or person. Very odd and the class shouldnt have ben like it was. too harsh on grading and stuff and your NEVER right about anything with literature. Good luck if you take him you better be a A++ write.r.
Prof. Ford was a very challenging professor for me, but I also feel that I learned a lot from him when it comes to analyzing and forming your own ideas from literature. I'd say take him if you have an interest in English; but if you're simply looking to fill a GE I'd recommend taking an easier professor.
I liked Ford as a person even though he was definitely odd. People complain about his grading being to harsh but I thought it was fair. The only thing bad I would say about the class is the way he uses two hours isn't always efficient. Also if you ask him for help, he will have a lot of good advice to offer, but you may walk away just as confused.
Very unclear about the assignments. Class is extremely boring. He calls students out in the middle of call. Very, very rude professor.
not always clear on what he is looking for. very difficult grader.
I did fairly well in the Intro to College Writing course, however I agree with some people that Prof Ford doesn't make the most of the time. There were many awkward pauses because no one in the class wanted to participate. If you are confused and ask him for help he is very willing to accomodate. Honestly I think this class helped my writing alot.
He is really hard and refuses to be specific. Papers, the main part of the class, are NOT about what you think, but are all about what he thinks.
Very boring professor! It was hard to stay awake the entire time because he is not interesting and terribly monotone. He is a very tough grader. He loves to give his opinion in class and wastes a lot of time waiting for someone to give input or ask questions. That said, he is nice and understanding, it just takes awhile to realize it.
Contrary to most of these ratings, I loved Dr. Ford. I think he is brilliant. He really knows how to delve into deep conversation about literature and theories in general. True, he can be a bit vague, but if you just ask him, he clears it right up. He is clearly passionate about what he teaches and I find that inspiring.
Dr. Ford really is not bad! Cons: Sometimes gives confusing answers when asked a question. Also has a hard time engaging the class (not all his fault, this goes both ways). Pros: A nice teacher, who knows what he's talking about. He is also delighted to help out with any issue even on his own time. Generally a fair grader.
He was intellectually stimulating, thats for sure. I interviewed him. He is a very Interesting guy. Sometimes he speaks for to long. sometimes when you ask a question you feel like he didnt answer it and just talked a long time.
He's a nice guy, and helps when you physically ask him. He can sometimes be very confusing with prompts and explaining what he exactly wants. Not a very tough grader, but lectures can be a drag.
The people claiming he's a difficult grader are probably at-risk students or are just really stupid. Honestly if you try even a little you'll easily get a B in his classes.
He is a super strict grader. When asking Professor Ford a question, he is very unclear in his answer. He is a nice guy and everything but he is a bad professor. Papers are hard to write for the class because you have no idea what he is looking for. If you have a choice, don't choose him.
Professor Ford is very enthusiatic about the subject but I really dislike his teaching style. He assigns WAY too much busy work, and most of it is assigned last minute. He also doesn't seem to realize that students have other classes besides his and don't have time to do all his silly little assignments that he makes up on the spot.
Stay away if possible! He is a hard grader, and if you ask him a question he often responds with 10 questions back. Papers are hard to write because he doesn't clearly tell you what he wants. He is a nice guy but terrible professor!
Professor Ford is a very nice guy but his class is very challenging. This class consists of 4 papers and a final reflection. As you go on your papers are worth more of your grade. I found this class difficult because Dr. Ford isn't very clear in his directions and when you ask him a question he drifts off onto different tangents.
While Professor Ford is difficult, he gives great feedback that improves your writing significantly. He's extremely helpful and usually clear, ultimately, he just wants to prepare you for any future writing you may need to preform.
I never had trouble with English/Writing until I took this class. Professor Ford talks in circles and is very unclear. I went to him for help a few times and when we had to meet for individual projects, and he never answered my questions. I would highly recommend not taking him for this course because WRIT116 is mandatory and a 5cred class!
I found the course to be very frustrating, as Dr. Ford demands a lot for a 100 level course. He is quite knowledgable and may frustrate you as a student, however he is honest in his critiques and helpful, and despite how challenging the class is, if you put in the work Dr. Ford will help you become a stronger writer.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. he is the hardest grader, and only grades you well if he's interested in your topic. His lectures are boring and he talks in circles. He never answers your questions and was by far the worst professor I ever had. Don't talk him if you don't have to.
He is very nice and means well, but very confusing. Half the time I didn't know what I was doing, and if you asked for help he will talk in circles and not even answer your question. Super tough grader. Overall a very nice guy, but extremely difficult to understand what he wants. Try to take from a different teacher.
I LOVE this man! He was a little ambiguous on writing assignments (a lot of it is due to the fact that he let us have freedom in what to write). This is a course geared toward making you a better "rhetor" as he says. He is way helpful and super approachable.
talks, talks, talks, but says nothing that matters
Nice guy. Tends to ramble on a bit. If your essay topics and ideas are cliché, he will grade tougher. I learned this and chose interesting and unexpected topics on my last couple of assignments and it boosted my grade to an A.
Ford is not a professor. He is not helpful in any way. Assigns papers without any criteria. Papers are difficult and teach you nothing. He is condescending and talks about subjects that he has no familiarity with as if he is an expert. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!
Dr. Ford is great! Came in the class not expecting to like it or him, but it is one of my favorite classes. Yes, it can be a lot of work, but it IS a writing class. He truly cares about his students performance and will do anything to help. He isn't too hard of a grader. He does kind of ramble in class or while answering a question but means well!
I would not recommend this man. Yes, I am sure he is a great person outside the classroom, but this man should not be a professor. He is very confusing and talks in circles, never ACTUALLY answering your question. His directions are very unclear and when asked to clarify, there he goes talking in circles again. STAY AWAY! Have not learned anything
Dr. Ford is clearly an intelligent man, but he's not the greatest at fostering discussion in the classroom. Often, discussions are hijacked by him so he can go off on a tangent that very few people are interested in. He seemed to come to class with a very narrow view of what he wanted to talk about and what he wanted us to get out of readings.
Dr. Ford is my favorite professor on campus. He is amazing and such a great professor. He helped me become a great writer. He is a very interesting man and I loved talking with him. Plus, he played the banjo for us once. Dr. Ford is the best Definetly take his writting class.
May be difficult to understand by some students, but full of content. Class increases in difficulty and work load. Most projects are allowed 1-2 weeks to prepare, so use the time well! Very intelligent and knowledgeable, and really wants to see students succeed.
Prof Ford is a very intelligent man and loves what he teaches. His lectures can be long and the assignments get harder as you go and you do have to put in the time to get a good grade. He is very willing to help you out at anytime of the day and gives good feedback.
Professor Ford really pushes students to do better, and gives the feedback students want. He tells cheesy jokes and may bring his banjo to class once in a while. Overall, it was a good experience.
Cares about the class. Goes on random rants that have nothing to do with the class. Will bring his banjo in to play for the class. Doesn't like ending class early for work time. He will keep you there till class ends even if that means everyone is sitting there in silence for an hour and a half "working on their project".
He's is very smart. His class is far from easy but worth the time and I was able to get a lot out of it. He makes things interesting and really helps you learn and accomplish work you can be proud of. You get what you put in, out of the class so just show up ready to work and the grades will follow...
Dr. Ford is a really good professor! He will help you succeed if you put in the effort. Only 4 papers for the class! Make sure and look at the example essays he posts online because they will help you know what to do!
I feel bad giving Dr. Ford a 1 on this 5 point scale, because he means well and he's a nice guy, but honestly, I dreaded going to his class. Rambles on and on about a single poem or story for over an hour, just talks in circles. Just wasn't a great teacher in my opinion, very frustrating. Listen to these reviews and don't take his class. Trust us.
He is a great professor! He loves to discuss the assigned stories, he loves student participation. He really helps the students develop amazing analytical skills. Easy grader, and easy to talk to.
Okay so ford has a bad rating but he is such an easy prof. Literally if you turn something in you are not gonna get anything lower than a B. he is such a chill dude who brings in his banjo to class. yes he is boring at times but hey you are in college take the boring class if you are gonna get a good grade.
Dr. Ford is a great person, but has very, very strict grading criteria. You pretty much need to go to his office hours to figure out what he's looking for in the assignments, but when you do, he tells you exactly what he wants. Only 4 papers/projects and a self-reflection. Put in the work and you'll do fine
He is a very tough grader and does not make much sense when explaining the papers. He will start one day by telling you what he wants your paper to look like, then the next class period he will go back on that so you don't know what to write about until the night before. He also tends to grade based on what he expects you to do not what you do
Dr. Ford is not a good professor. He is rude and doesn't care if you understand or not. He also makes you feel bad if you give a wrong answer. He goes on and on about something that isn't significant, and is a harsh grader on things that were not on the guidelines. Don't recommend taking his class and will never take another course with him.
Dr. Ford is the worst professor that I have had at the university. He comes into class an wants class participation but when you do contribute to the conversation he makes you feel dumb. He is always talking in circles and never really answers your question if you need help. His assignments are unclear. You will dread going to the course.
Dr. Ford is very knowledgeable in his field and makes sure his students succeed.
Dr. Ford is a nice guy but he wasn't my favorite professor. His grading criteria is pretty unclear and honestly I did not at all enjoy going to this class. It is a fairly easy class though, and there isn't much work outside of class.
Dr. Ford was my favorite professor this semester. He actually made me not hate writing. Based on things I heard about other writing 116 classes, I am very glad I had Dr. Ford. He can be a little strange at times, but it makes the class more interesting. I also did better in this class than any high school writing classes so I highly recommend him.
Sean was the worst professor that I've ever had at UWEC. He expects you to be as smart as him. His lectures are incredibly hard to follow and the material is dry. The tests are impossible, and you have to memorize every work that you study... DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS with this professor. Be prepared for hours of homework and lots of reading.
Despite some of the bad reviews Dr. Ford was one of my favorite professors at UWEC. The class was only graded on a few papers and a project, and while the objectives for those papers weren't initially clear, he told you exactly what he wanted in his office hours which is key. Lectures actually went by pretty fast despite being 2 hours. Super cool
At the start of the semester I thought I would hate this class but if you put in effort for the minimal projects its not that bad. I heard he was a hard grader but I still have an A and I havent put all my effort into the work. Hes a little weird but it makes the class funny & hes actually a pretty understanding person and overall a good teacher
I hated having class with Sean. He's really tough with grading, and is very eager to call out his students. His WRIT116 class was really difficult for a 100-level class, and he has strict criteria. One time he flat out told me that I didn't know what I was talking about after I presented and exposed my grades to the class.
