One word: awesome! He said it was his first time teaching the course and he did such an amazing job. He doesn't make you learn the garbage and he explains the concepts so well, you'd almost be stupid if you didn't understand it - he's THAT good! Highly recommended for Math 214!!

Best professor. EVER. Explains concepts flawlessly that are supported by excellent notes. TEACHES you what you need to know and doesn't just prove things on the board like some math profs and expects you to understand that way. If all professors were like him i'd thoroughly enjoy going to all my classes. Do ANYTHING it takes to get into his class!

The class average is high BUT he says he doesn't curve (midterm was 82%) but then I somehow ended up getting a C. Maybe he had to curve it at the end or I just bombed the final. Anyway the midterm was easy, final wasn't brutal but it was hard so make you you know the theory and not just where to plug in the numbers to get the answer.

An unexperience Prof in teaching Stat...However, he tries his best to explain everything to his class....His exam is easy...and he's kind and friendy....A good prof that's hard to find in University

Sean was AWESOME! My favorite first year prof. His notes were clear, you didn't even need the textbook except for the assigned problems to hand in. He made stats easy because he actually teaches. Midterm was easy. Final was more difficult because it had more material, but he tests you on things that he's shown you before so it's fair. He's awesome!

I took calculus in high school and absolutely hated it. I only took this course because I was told it was a prereq. Don't really regret it, as Sean was awesome. He's easy to understand and really cheers you on to do great. All you have to do is follow Sean's Steps to Success!

Wow, he was a great prof. I never opened the textbook and everything was very clear and easy to understand. Math XL is kind of a frustrating program though. Sean was extremely nice and helpful, i would definitely recommend you taking one of his courses

Best math teacher ever. There were other people in my class who had him in other subjects who say it's not just geometry, he's just a good teacher. Just explained things well. The class is challenging, but it's not from lack of understanding. Text book was $20.

Probably the best math prof at the University of Alberta. One of the only ones who takes the time to explain things. If i could i would take every course with him.

It doesn't necessarily mean he's an easy prof though- you still have to do the math xl questions, ask questions if you're ever confused, and come to class. Otherwise, he's passionate about teaching, and really wants his students to do well.

ATTENTION ALL ENGINEERS. You are curved across ALL the math sections in this class. (There are around 8 sections) Therefore, you need the best of the best to teach you this course. This is the guy for you. Sean`s section was at the top this past year. MAKE YOUR SCHEDULE AROUND SEAN! I guarantee you you won`t regret it.

By far, the best prof I have had! He is extremely passionate about the subject. His classes are almost always full. So, just make sure you sit in the first few rows. His handwriting is fairly small and can be hard to read from the back!

Engineers!! Schedule all your classes AROUND Sean's Math209 section. If you can get into his section, you're golden. (And even if you aren't able to register in his class because it's full, attend his lectures anyway!!) You won't screw yourself over, all sections are coordinated the same! Best prof ever! He's always enthusiastic and crystal clear. If you've previously taken calculus, you should ace his course, as his exams were extremely easy. To study, go off his notes. If you're taking calculus for the first time, I suggest doing examples from the textbook as well.

For sure take his classes! He is ridiculously awesome. He had a sub come in once and I almost died, the material was so confusing. Sean showed up next class and all confusion disappeared within 10 minutes of explanation. Do the assignments and homework and I know you will do well. He is funny and loves his students. This is the best professor I have had at the university so far!!! Made a subject thats usually super hard for people really easy and interesting. Notes are posted on line if you ever miss anything but going to class is mandatory as he gives hints for exams. If his class is still open ...ENROLL IN IT NOW!! you won't regret it :)

The class had a 25% failure rate, including myself (found this out through my councillor). My problem was he presented things in such an easy manner I did not take the class seriously. Because he's rated as hot there are a LOT of hot girls that will be in his class. He's married with a kid btw.

:o Im seriously shocked how this prof doesnt have a 5.0 easy midterms and final hes super nice and helpful doesnt mind helping at all the only bad thing that I found is that he answers elementary math questions but its prob bc I think people should know that but in one word this prof is AMAZING wish he was teaching the classes i need next semester

I hadn't taken math in over two years and he made things so much easier. Exams aren't hard, do every question from the text. I recommend just buying the online homework site and printing off questions as I never opened the text to read through it. No tricky questions on final, doesn't mark on algebra skills. He coordinates math help in CAB.

Sean is honestly a good professor and he explains crystal clear but he takes forever on the stuff that is easy and overviews hard stuff not so heavily. His exams are hard though so be prepared and you will do fine . I didn't take calculus in high school and it was manageable... He's better than all

I hated math before this class. Sean made math easy and understandable. He explains everything clearly & makes sure you understand. I actually enjoy going to this class and it flies by. He clearly loves math and teaching it. If you have to take math especially for the BEd program I highly recommend taking it from Sean. One of the best!

Very friendly and approachable, notes are all posted online but it helps to come to class to understand. assignments are very proof-heavy, but too bad. and assignments aren't always due every week, which is nice. I think we had 7 assignments in the term.

After being out of high school for 12 years I was nervous about taking a university level math class. However, Sean made this course fun and not too difficult. He provides practice exams and follows them pretty closely, so study off of those.

Sean is hands down the best prof I've had at this university, MATH 421 has some challenging concepts but he explains them clearly and gives you a chance to do well in a 400 level math course. The exams are fair, he doesn't give you anything you've never seen before but you have to know your stuff. I highly recommend him.

Graves is the best calculus prof on campus. Coming out of high school math I was struggling but his notes, examples and practice tests are amazing. The worksheets for the course are tough but they are the same for all Math 113114 students. Get in this class.

First of all, he post lectures as screencasts on eclass! A+ for someone like me who is too lazy to go to the lectures on cold days. Lectures are clear, notes are very helpful, exams aren't easy but they are fair (you have to know your stuff and think). Overall, would definitely recommend!

I was one of those kids who hated math their whole life.. until I met Sean Graves. Calculus became my favorite subject this year. Sean is works very hard to help his students to succeed... The only con to taking his class is that the curve can really screw you over. Since so many kids get good grades in his class, you have to work really hard too.

Excellent prof, clearly explained the concepts and procedures. His lectures were all recorded and class notes were also posted daily in case you missed a class.

I really enjoyed taking this class with Sean. He has great notes, and is really clear on his expectations. The only thing I had a problem with was that I wish he would be a bit more confident. He makes a few mistakes in class and he never seems 100% sure of his answers. But overall I would definitely recommend him

Sean Graves is an awesome prof. I had to take this course twice, but the second time around was way easier because he really knows his stuff and how to get it across to his students. He's super approachable, and gives clear outlines of what to expect on his exams, as well as on the webassign. Definitely one of my favourite profs so far.

Sean is a great prof. He has a passion for math and is always there to help you. There are bi-weekly assignments, 1 midterm, and 1 final. The final is 50% of the grade and he does not provide any practice exams. The class was not easy and you have to work for a good mark but he is willing to help you succeed. I would suggesting taking his classes.

I heard countless bad things about Math 102 and how difficult it was. Yes indeed it is very challenging but I enjoyed every single lecture from Sean Graves. He made me LOVE Linear algebra and I loved his teaching. Before the deadly final, he spent hours answering my questions and gave clear explanations. 100% Best prof ever had.

Sean is a fantastic professor and instructed a somewhat tedious and difficult course and made it very manageable. His notes are incredibly clear and he makes himself available to help. I highly recommend taking his class if you're taking Stats.

Graves is great because he truly cares about making sure his students understand the content. The labs (group projects) are ridiculous. Our TA marked harder than other classes (my friend and I handed in lab that a TA told us should get the same mark, she got 100, I got 93). Because of the labs, I got a letter grade lower in the end. Watchout

My FAVORITE prof of the whole year. Explained things thoroughly and creatively, answered all questions confidently and concisely. His notes are amazing but I wouldn't have had a clue what was going on if I didn't attend his lectures. 10/10 would recommend

Dr. Graves is easily my favorite prof. He made statistics really enjoyable and always spent extra time answering questions. The average for our class was higher than other sections because he explained things so well. The exams are all standardized and the labs/assignments are a good place to boost your grade. Final was really tough.

Amazing lectures. Concise and helpful notes. He also gives homework hints in class. He cares about his students and is willing to stay half an hour after class to answer questions. The consolidated midterm was awful though, but the consolidated final was not that bad. Take his class if possible.

Sean is really enthusiastic about math, which gets students excited. However, the content is really quite different from what I'm used to, and I ended up going to math help every week. There are lots of assignments, but he gives lots of extensions. He gives examples in class, but the tests and assignments always seemed a large degree harder.

Very caring, helpful & overall great prof! Some sections I found quite difficult and had to get help. The lectures are helpful, I would recommend attending. He posts practice assignments and tests online. Marked on: 7 assignements (20%), a midterm (30%) and final (50%). I found the assignements were marked harder than the exams. Would recommend!

Sean is such a great guy! He is kind and really cares about his students. He however has his exam to be 50 percent. It is a more difficult class than 160 but Sean explains things very well. His midterm is a lot harder than the final exam. He really love's his ed students and he is so good to his class! Would definitely take another class with him!

Students who go through the textbook and do every single odd-numbered question with their Faculty of Engineering-approved calculator will have a very nice midterm experience. (In all seriousness, I dropped stats the first time because of a failed midterm, and am likely going to finish in the B range this time b/c of him. That speaks for itself.)

Dr Graves made stats an easy A. He explains concepts super well and his gives lots of practice examples in class so you've done everything you need to know for homework. Very approachable during his office hours. Text book used for extra practice-super important to do well

(Sidenote - difficulty rating is due to the fact that an A in stats regardless of prof requires a lot of work). Sean had such cohesive lectures and notes. He tells you exactly what is what on the formula sheet and what chapters they're relevant for (super helpful in studying). Definitely take 151 with him if you have the chance.

I loved Sean's course! It seem's like he really wants to make sure all of his students do their very best. He is very easy to get ahold of for questions and will even postpone the due-date of an assignment if a few people are struggling with it. The assignments can sometimes be tough, but I found them to be more difficult than the tests. Easy A!

After an awful attempt at STAT151 in my fall semester, I tried again with Graves and the turnaround was unbelievable. He is an educator who loves what he's doing and it shows in the great care he takes in relaying material and how accessible he is for help. If you're attempting STAT151, definitely choose this professor.

Hands down the best undergrad prof I've ever had. STAT 151 was the class I always looked forward to since his lectures were so fantastic. He laser focuses on the material that you need to succeed in the labs, midterm, and final and does not ramble on about useless information. I really struggled on the midterm but Sean was so encouraging and so helpful. He answered every stats question I had and really helped me improve on the final. Do practice midterm and focus on probability questions (ch.12-13 and also work on ch. 14-15) because they are the hardest and most tested. Don't leave HW to the last minute.

I was horrified to enter stats. However Sean was amazing. I also highly recommend taking the MASC stat sessions with Neil as he helped me fully understand the content. The final is easier than the midterm.

If professors were Greek gods, Sean would be Zeus. Without a doubt, king over all professors. His lectures made Stats understandable, and were the highlight of my day. He grades clearly and does a fantastic job preparing his students for exams. If you have the chance, choose Sean above all others.

This is THE prof to take STAT151 with. Sean explained the concepts so well and made things easy to grasp. His lectures are enjoyable and he makes them fun. You can easily ask him questions about the material and he is willing to help his students. Overall, a really great prof.

Sean is a good professor for this course. The content can be a little difficult to understand, but he teaches it well. It is important that you go to class to understand the content though. The final exam is worth 50%, midterm worth 30%, and homework (once a week) worth 20%.

Great professor, clearly wants students to succeed. Very accessible outside of class and willing to help. He even brings demonstrations to class to show math problems in a different way. Only issue I had with this class is that the final was worth 50%, and the assignments took a lot of time and effort and were only worth 20%.

Sean will work with you until you get the concept, and never makes you feel bad about misunderstanding him. He is by far the best prof that I have had. He genuinely cares about making sure you understand the math and reasoning and not just the "how its done". The exams (2) are worth a total of 80% of your grade though, which sucks.

Sean gives you every chance to succeed in this class. He is available almost every day to help and is good at responding to emails. If you work at the weekly homework assignments it is not hard to get an A on them. He is always up to clarify things and make sure everyone understand before moving on. The tests can be a bit hard but do able.

Probably the best professor I have ever had in calculus. Teaches much differently then all other professors. He teaches for pure understanding, not like some of these other professors who sit there and derive equations without explanations. Absolute goat

He's a very approachable guy and its easy to ask him questions about homework. I went to see him every week for the weekly assignments and he was very helpful. One of the best profs that I've had!

After taking all of the math courses from different profs, sean graves is the best at what he does, hands down. You are lucky if you get in his class. The only reason I got a B and not any higher because I made dumb mistakes in the final, this guy is a legend.

Honestly thinking about switching my whole degree to math just so I can have Sean as a prof again. Seriously one of the best profs I have ever had! If you need to take math 260 for Ed omg take it with Sean!!!!!!!

Loved this course! I am someone who has been easily intimidated by math throughout my entire academic career, but I found that Sean explained the concepts very thoroughly and took the time to address questions. He was also super helpful outside of class. I highly recommend taking this course with him!

I had him for Math 209 and it was one of the best lectures I've had. He likes to explain things visually and makes the concepts easier to understand. He cares more that you understand the material so the labs were open book. The homework was the usual difficulty and his exams were very fair. Would definitely recommend him over any other 209 profs.

Sean is a great prof, he took time to explain concepts and if the class didnt get through everything he wanted to get through in one lecture, hed just push the schedule back so we didnt have to worry about trying to learn something new when we didnt learn the base knowledge. the final would be on what your class was able to finish in a semester

If you are not a math person take math with Sean Graves! He breaks things down and makes them easy to understand. He is very passionate about his job and is also pretty much always available to help outside of class. The (almost) weekly assignments are difficult but his exams are not as bad.

BEST PROF EVER. He was so helpful and if one needed an extension on material he would give it. He would go over questions on zoom calls and was very fast to email back when needed. He was also ready to meet with you whenever you needed. The most helpful prof EVER.

Sean has adapted his teaching style to teach the course online and it is miles ahead of any other professor I have had thus far. His lectures and notes are easy to follow and relevant to assignments and tests and the weighting of the course is very fair. He has been extremely accommodating to online learning and continues to impress me.

Dr. Graves is an astounding professor. He deeply cares about his students, and has an excellent teaching ability. Probably one of the best math professors at the UofA.

Where do I start? Professor Graves is seriously the best math professor I have ever had! He knows how to explain everything in a way that makes perfect sense. He never overcomplicates things which is why I found it easy to understand everything. Although you do not have to attend the daily zoom meetings, I found it extremely beneficial!

Sean Graves is possibly the best prof I have ever had. He structured the class so you only go to the zoom class if you have questions but I HIGHLY suggest you go everyday! He is so helpful, kind, patient and is happy to be there! He truly cares about his students, is easy to contact (quick to respond) and was super knowledgeable about the course

Professor Graves is by far one of the best profs ive ever had. He cares so much about his students and helps as much as he can with homework/any question anyone has. His class was set up by optional zoom office hours everyday and videos explaining the content. Take him if you can, you wont regret it!!!!!!

Sean is awesome! He explains concepts well and simplifies everything so that it is understandable. He is willing to answer questions and help with assignments. Created a course notes package that had lots of examples, practice problems, and answers in it for us to print off at the beginning of the year, which was highly effective.

His lectures were amazing and he would have the whole class engaged and laughing everyday. Class consisted of 7 assignments, eclass quizzes with unlimited attempts, midterm and final. Grades fair and has long office hours everyday. Take his class!

One of the best math profs ever. He will literally answer any question you have in the nicest way; you can tell that he really wants to help you learn. He gives you so many practice midterms and finals to study from. But the best thing is that he has the best office hours and he spent the whole day before the final answering a million questions.

I really enjoyed Sean's class! Math is not my best class, and he made it very easy to see him outside class time with extended office hours to get any clarification or help you may need. Take his class he cares and it is very evident.

Best prof I have had in a while. Math is my worst subject but MATH260 ended up being my favourite class of the semester. Sean is the most caring prof I have ever met. He puts so much effort and time into his students to ensure they are successful.

I came into MATH421 worried I'd hate it. Instead it became my favourite class of the term. Sean is probably the most passionate professor I'd ever met: in the weeks leading up to class he literally went through every question in the textbook to ensure the solutions were right (and make note when they weren't). Could not recommend him highly enough!

Hands down the best math professor I've ever had. If he makes a piazza for the course, make sure to use it; he almost always responds within 12 hours.

One of the kindest and most passionate professors I've had. He genuinely cares about students and takes the time to explain every concept step by step, even in a 50-minute class. He also has long office hours, so it's easy to find him if you need help. Highly recommend his class if you want someone who's both knowledgeable and supportive!

I took Math 201 with him, but it's not currently an option here. Really great prof. His lectures and notes are both very good and easy to understand.
