He is a very confusing teacher. You'd think general astronomy would be very general but its not. He kind of mumbles so sometimes its hard to understand what he is saying.
Nice professor, likes to make jokes. Pay attention in class or look over his slides he puts up on blackboard. If you read over the slides, the tests are easy. Only need to take notes on what he writes on the board, everything else is given to you.
He is a very boring teacher. When you look around the class, 90% of it is sleeping. I would not recommend him for General Astronomy because he get's very tough.
He is very boring, thinks he is helping you when he makes the study sheets up. He only break its down to about 35 pages of notes instead of 40. Dont take him. Everyone falls asleep and his jokes aren't funny. Take it only if you HAVE to.
dr. hendrick is a really nice guy, always got back to me through email within a day, and is very willing to help you if needed. unfortunatly, his class in confusing, he goes too fast with some info, and good luck if you arn't strong in math. interesting class, but too much in depth for a general course.
Easy class, no need to attend. Slideshows are all online, as well as study guides and test/quiz/homework answers. Nice guy, but multiple choice on tests are worded confusingly. Math equations are all given to you, along with conversions. Couldn't ask for more.
Easy class. Puts all his notes from class online as well as most answers to homework. Quizzes past solely on homework questions. Impossible to fail them. Provides exact review of what he finds for tests. Just work a little bit and you'll do fine. Uses a GPA scale to grade that's great if you just do work. Awesome prof and I would def take him again
This class is kind of difficult.. but he uses a bell curve for grades.. makes it easy to get a good grade.. Some people thought they were doing bad, but with his curves you end up doing alright.. he is a very sweet guy.. take him!
Good professor, nothing great just overall a good one. Easy to get in touch with, grades on a bell curve, goes over the material extensively. Doesn't make you show up to class (even though I went). Enjoyed the class overall.
Veyr good prof. However, no need to attend class regularly. Notes are online as well as homework answers and quizzes are directly from the homework and tests are directly from the quizzes. Dont cheat off people though. Make cheat sheets because final might be two different tests. But tests are curved and very easy to cheat and pass.
he's a really nice guy, but he kinda goes into way too much detail for the class and confuses you.plus the tests dont usually have too much to do with all that. i thought i was doing really good until the end of the semester came, and it turned out that i wasnt. he takes a while to return anything. a nice guy, ok teacher
this guy is awesome! he's a great prof, smart, funny, and tries to keep everyone interested! plus, he's kinda hot!
This class isnt that hard as long as you study the homework answers that he gives you. You do need to study, and take notes a lot, but all the notes are posted online in slideshows. He is really into teaching this subject, so I would have to say he's not too shabby, and I would take him again.
He isn't a bad professor, his lectures can be boring. When it comes time for quizes, just study the homework notes he posts on blackboard. Exams are a little bit hard,do not read thebook, he posts all of his powerpoints on bb. Practice exams are very helpful, questionsare similar to the exams except he switches them a bit.
He doesnt take attendance first of all, just an attendance quiz once a week pretty much. Beyond that, he asks questions before each quiz. On tests watch out for tricky answers...he especially works out the math problems and puts answers down that you would get if you didnt finish the problem. Overall, good prof, but boring class.
Gen. Astronomy-GREAT GUY! The whole class is a lecture with a powerpoint. Do the homework and complete practice tests--but be careful, he will reword practice test answers on the real test. He curves it but there is usually an overachiever and you all get screwed. Very funny, but most students don't get his jokes.
not the most interesting class in the world, unless you're a big astronomy buff. get homework about once every 2 weeks, doesn't check it but 5 question quizzes are directly from it. tests all multiple choice, 5 math. slideshow lectures all posted on blackboard. not very fun and sometimes confusing, but should be able to manage a B.
Weird grader... I thought for sure I was going to fail, but because of his grading system I got a decent grade. I just must have done better than a large portion of the class...
As many people have mentioned already, Dr. Hendrick is a little mischievous with his test questions, but overall if you do your reading, pay attention and look over your notes it is not difficult to ace this class. Very interesting man, shows a hell of a lot of passion for the subject and his jokes are funny. Wait until Zeus's booty calls...
Gave attendance quizes everything he talks about is on Blackboard. Hell of an interesting guy who loves astronomy. Slackers can pass but not easily do the homework, and get the suggestions for each test on Blackboard messages, wikipedia, or find them in your book. Then always take the yellow test its ussually easier than the white one.
I got a c but its cause i never went to the class so thats not bad. he takes attendence quizs one out of the 3 days a week so if you skip make sure you dont skip that day. Hes tests are really easy if you look over the notes and the powerpoints on blackborad
Text is helpful. He LOVES astronomy. Tell you info that you dont need to know for the test ALL the time! Tests are somehwat easy if you keep along &understand what hes saying. Recommend going to class just to help you understand more. ALL powerpoint * posts them on BB. 3 tests(30 Q &5 math) Final(55 Q &5 math) Quizes(4 Q &1 math-easy). Nice man.
Decent class. If you read and study, you'll get by. Going to class really isn't very necessary, since he puts everything on blackboard, but he does give attendance quizzes that count towards your final grade. His tests were ridiculous, but the curve is really nice.
Attend class and make sure to do his practice tests and you should get an A. He is very clear and helpful. It was a very enjoyable class and I learned a lot. You really don't use the book except for the quizzes and for practicing the math problems for the test. Excellent professor that really enjoys what he does.
Had him for lab, he's a cool guy, i'd probably take him for an actual course if i had the chance
Nice enough guy, but really boring. Explains power points every single class, not really necessary to attend but he gives random attendance usually once a week (5% of grade). I thought astronomy would be real cool but it's just terribly boring. Easy class if you just need a gen ed, though. You do need the textbook
Uses slide shows every class and they are all online.. if you go to class and study a little you will do good on tests. Curves too
attendance not mandatory but does have random quizzes. will def help if you need it and he was very enthused when i went to his office hours for help. took this class for a gen-ed and he curves VERY WELL :)..class not that difficult if you study and understand concepts (like anything else lol) overall decent class and his jokes are funny.
Funny and nice guy. Uses the powerpoints everyday which you can view online. We really didnt need the book, just look at the PPs. Make sure you study a good amount. Attendence quiz once a week so be aware of them (5% grade). Came in already interested in Astronomy but may be boring for those who arent. Recommend this class for a Gen. Ed.
good prof. He definitely knows what he is talking about and is pretty straightforward when teaching. Made physics kind of easy. Take him if you get the chance.
Great class for a gen ed. He curves the grades, I got a whole letter higher because of this. The powerpoints are very useful, you don't really need to book if you understand them. You also get an easy 5 points of your grade just for attendance. His nerd humor also makes the class entertaining.
He's a good guy. Exams are curved. Gives weekly attendance quizzes (usually the day after exams, and days when there isn't a quiz). A lot of info for a "general" course but you can end up with an A pretty easily if you take the hints he gives in class as to what to study.
class is pretty boring, has PP and are online, attendance is mandatory, 3 tests and a final, but final is all questions from the last 3 tests. exams are pretty challenging. will be easy to get a C in this class if you do the work and study a little
Hendrick is a cool guy and helpful outside of class. gives you info on tests ahead of time, but it's a lot of info. class is boring, attendance not mandatory but he does random attendance quizzes. I have an A but I study HARD for each test. A lot of info for a 100 level course.
Always willing to help outside of office hours, and an overall nice guy. I highly recommend this course if you have an interest in astronomy, but don't plan on being an astrophysicist.
Good physics teacher. Knows what he is talking about and trys to keep the class interesting by telling jokes. There are 4 exams which are curved, about 7 quizes throughout the semester. Power points are based on quizes which are based on exams. Its not hard to get a B in the class unless you don't do anything. I would highly recommend.
Really nice guy, really interesting and funny. Loves to drop nerd references as he lectures. The class is based around lots of powerpoints, which are posted ahead of time. He gives random attendances quizzes, usually one or two per week. The book is not necessary for this course. I would definitely take this professor again.
Inspired a passion for astronomy in me. I know that's pretty dorky, but what can I say?
This guy was funny! I dont have much interest in this field but I passed with a B-. Listen guys, if you fail this all you can blame is yourself. HE TELLS YOU WHAT WILL BE ON EXAMS! Great guy and willing to help. Suggest you take it.
Though I find this course to be difficult, it's not because of the prof. Math is my worst subject, which is a large percentage of this course. But Prof. Hendrick makes the course as interesting as it can be, is funny, and impassioned. He's easily accessible for help outside the classroom and well worth the work. If you need a sci course take this!
this class was very interesting! Hendricks makes class fun and stupid simple. Every presentation is put on the school page and his study guides are word for word from the slides. He is funny and likes to throw in a curse word or two!
I struggled with this class, math is not a subject I am good at. He does weekly attendance quizzes, but this is not a class you ever want to skip. The material can be difficult, he tells you exactly what you need to know. Most of the test questions come from his power points, not the text book. He's a funny guy, although tough, I enjoyed his class.
Probably the worst prof I've ever had. He is so impatient and makes you feel stupid when you ask a question. He makes mistakes on exams but expects you to figure it out anyway. The class is really easy because his practice exam is just like the real thing, but he is very, very rude.
Some days its pretty interesting, other days not so much. Tests aren't too hard if you do the practice tests and study the power points that he has online. Im horrible at math but really just memorize the equations (about 5 per exam) and plug in the number. He's usually pretty funny as well.
Good guy. I liked this class, it is a tough subject. I found Dr. Hendricks to be helpful and easy to understand.
The whole class is a lecture with powerpoint. He just talks to the whole time period and doesn't care if you understand or not. There is a 5 point quiz every couple of chapters, and he gives attendance quizzes every so often, especially when there aren't a lot of people. The class is uninteresting, and you have to study a lot to understand
Hendrick is a professional astronomer so sometimes it was hard to keep up with his lectures. I had a tutor which made it a somewhat easy A for me. He always offered help but didn't seem like an approachable type of guy.
I took this class because it was required as a GE course. I hate physics with a passion. But I found this class to be extremely easy. There's hardly any homework and you don't have to pay attention in class. He tells you exactly what will be on the exams and most questions are pulled directly from the practice exams. I found him very likable.
He really knows his stuff so its difficult to keep up with him during lectures in astronomy. Just study the reviews he gives online(very helpful) and take his practice quiz for every quiz online(extremely helpful). But he teaches so fast its hard to learn as you go. Also, he is not very approachable even though he wants you to ask questions
Least favorite professor I've ever had. Extremely rude and seems to think he's better than everyone else. Went through the slides extremely fast and didn't explain concepts very well. Avoid him.
Not a friendly professor. He expects you to understand concepts when he first goes over them. Can be funny, but can also be rude. Random attendance quizzes.
Hendrick is a great professor, and he's really passionate about what he teaches, but as someone with absolutely no interest in science, this class was awful. He admits upfront that he realizes he's teaching non-science majors for a gen-ed class, but that doesn't mean he'll hold off. Curves on tests are VERY generous. Grading scale is great.
Because this class is for non-science majors, Hendricks uses a generous curve on his tests and provides practice exams and outside of class study sessions to prepare for tests. That being said, normal class periods consist of going through slides at a rapid pace with, at times offensive, rants thrown in. Not hard to pass, difficult to endure.
One of the rudest profs I've ever had. He says to come to him for help, then treats you like you're stupid for asking. Goes through powerpoints way too fast for notetaking, then goes off topic for 20 min. Doesn't explain well: if you're not a math/science person you'll be lost. I cannot express how obnoxiously rude he was. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
He really knows his stuff which can be good if you can keep up, but he goes really fast so you probably won't be able to. He treats you like you're an idiot if you don't understand something. He curves his grades which helps a lot, otherwise you probably won't pass. he creates an outline of everything that will be on each test but it's a lot.
I felt really comfortable in class, I knew what I had to do to get a good grade, and it was very easy to do. Just complete and master the concepts in the practice exams, do the homework, attend recitation, and you will do very well in the class.
Dr. Hendrick's lectures are well-informed, but he goes through the lecture slides really fast. Luckily, he gives generous curves on the tests, but make sure you study for them. He's a funny guy and makes us laugh during lecture, but unfortunately he can also be a little rude.
Hendrick is.. interesting. He's funny and he definitely knows his stuff and loves astronomy. He also really loves fantasy football and cigarettes. Overall pretty good guy. Lectures aren't bad. Not too much work. Does go through the slides super fast though but he puts them online.
Sean was an interesting dude. Crude and crass as he may be, he definitely knows his stuff and did a decent enough job of conveying his material. Random attendance checks, exams were kind of difficult but he gave solid curves each exam so that was awesome. My 77 ended up being a B- so I can't really complain. Loves Star Trek and Doctor Who a lot
It's what you'd expect from a Physics class but he certainly knew his stuff and was very helpful. Tests were based off of quizzes and practice tests so you had a good idea on how to solve each type of problem you were expected to know. Needless to say I had a much easier time taking this class than I did when I took Physics with Calc.
General Astronomy is easy as long as you do the HW, do the practice exams, and know basic algebra! He knows this is a gen. ed. and won't make it difficult. HUGE curve on exams, and he is very passionate about the course. As long as you put in the effort and pay attention it's an easy A! There's a reason this course is for non-science majors!
I had Dr. Hendrick for General Astronomy. Every class time is dedicated to lecturing, but he tries to make it interesting, as he knows many of the students don't necessarily care. There is homework for every chapter you cover, and there is always a quiz on the homework, so DO THE HOMEWORK. He gives a study guide of the exams, which is really nice
easy class showed up on exam days only and ended with a C
He does his best to make this course as interesting as possible due to most people taking the course are not PHYS majors. He uploads all of his slide to D2L, at the end of each he gives a summary page narrowing the slide down to a few main topics that will be on our tests which I found to be very helpful.
Dr. Hendrick is a great teacher overall. Going into my freshman year of college I was beyond scared to take a Physics course, being an education major. I was definitely difficult but he curves all tests to a 75%, so you'll get an extra 5-10% on your test. Just read the textbook and power points before class and you'll do okay!
Professor Hendrick is a good teacher and is willing to help outside of the classroom. This course is not overly difficult, but does require some studying for each test. There are three midterm exams, around five quizzes, attendance quizzes and the final exam. Although he can angry at times, he is usually pretty helpful. Would take again.
Really great teacher. It's hard but fascinating material, and he does his best to help you excel. Always easy to talk to and willing to answer questions. I recommend!
Really great professor! I felt bad because 96% of the people did not listen to his lectures. What are you doing in college if you can't pass an exam where he literally tells you answers?! Easy A if you are a sane, responsible person. Otherwise, start questioning what's your purpose of attending college if you can't get an A in this class.
Hendrick is a sarcastic teacher who is self-aware many people taking his class are not overly interested in general astronomy. He is fairly interesting to listen to, but I found myself skipping class because the marginal benefit was low. Exams are easy to study for because he gives study guide which is straight from ppt slides posted online.
Has two tests. One test goes with the study guide while the other has questions that are not at all found on the guide. You will likely fail if you get the special test. Even if you studied the guide, if you get the special test you are being asked questions that you were not prompted to study for. Interesting class but way too much info at once.
Class is really easy as long as you show up
He is unbelievably disorganized, it's like he doesn't care. The first exam was pushed back almost a month so by the final we have three exams in three weeks. Does not grade things quickly and he almost never follows through with anything like he says he will. I will say his practice exams are very like the real exams and are super easy.
Quick talking/ lecture heavy/ makes material somehow more boring than it needs to be
Dr. Hendrick is a good professor if you learn best from PowerPoint and lectures. His class is lecture-heavy and requires lots of note-taking. I noticed that I had to study on my own to pass his quizzes/exams. There are no other grades other than quizzes, tests, and very few attendance counts. So, if you don't do well on tests- good luck...
I learned absolutely nothing in this class. He's rude and says downgrading comments. He curves everything since he can't teach. This is my last semester at Ville and by far the worst professor I've ever had. Get ready to teach yourself everything because he won't. He likes to show off that he's smarter than you.
I thought he was good overall. You definitely have to take notes and study outside of class but the material is pretty easy/ mostly memorization.
Take notes and study outside of class. It is a lot of memorization and basic plugging in for math problems. Don't give up on the class at first; it gets better. Be prepared for lots of fast-pace lectures!
Dr. Hendrick's class is so boring, I found it hard to concentrate. He takes up to 5 weeks or more to post grades, so I didn't know my grade until the end of the semester. There are quizzes every other week and a total of 4 exams. He gives practice exams that are similar to the real exams, so make sure you study the practice exams.
I'm surprised by how many negative reviews this guy has. I thought he was great. I've never found science classes easy but if you're interested in astronomy he'll teach you a lot. He offers review sessions before tests, is very understanding if you're unable to take a test at the normal time, sweet despite his sarcastic nature, & is a sci-fi geek.
Every class was a long lecture where he went off on tangents. It was hard to get myself interested in what he was saying and actually pay attention. Ended up skipping most of the time and then just doing the study guides before the tests.
Hendrick was a great proffesor. Good lectures, read off of slides he personally prepared and made class fun. Cool visuals in his class while also being lenient with amount of homework. Rarely had assignments, but it was test heavy. Only critique is he grades late.
A nice enough guy and definitely cares about what he teaches. His lectures were more engaging than most gen-eds I've had but it still wasn't always interesting. Plus one day he just had a 45 minute rant about climate change even though it didn't relate to the course at all (he did the same thing for astrology but at least that rant was funny).
Wasn't a huge fan of the professor (felt like he was condescending when some students asked questions), but was an easy-ish class. Tests are very similar to review guides and he curves them. The final is mostly material from previous exams. There are review sessions before each exam. Just study for the tests and you'll be fine.
He was very passive aggressive and sometimes acted like we were dumb. I didn't really like him at all but the class itself was easy. he says he takes attendance but he only did on the first week of class once and thats it. instead of grading hw does hw quiz. and there's like 4-5 total test including midterm and final.
From my understanding, Dr. Hendrick is a great astronomy professor. I had him for physics though. His lectures were way too fast, examples were rushed and sometimes unclear, and homework assignments were posted without due dates. Homework is graded on completion, exams are curved very fairly, and practice exams are provided. Will practice in class.
His tests are very difficult to study for and his questions that help you to prepare for it feel almost unhelpful, but he does help you on math questions if needed.
Hendrick is an okay prof, but he needs to do better. The reason I didn't do good as usual, is because I had to teach myself and consistently ran out of time on his exams. He says to ask questions, but is condescending. IMO take Gilani, because everyone cheats thru online exams and gets A. REALLY UNFAIR!!
