Best lab coordinator at Wayne hands down. Dr. Hickey has due dates of assignments on Canvas organized so well it doesn't leave you confused. He even has very useful links and lectures online that will guide you through lab so that you are better prepared. I would even take Orgo lecture with him if he taught it. The exams are very hard though.

The best lab coordinator. He's very caring. Gives EC and tries his best to help his students. His canvas is very organized and he shows all the due dates ahead of time. If you go to his office he's willing to listen. His exams aren't bad. He sends many emails but i found them helpful to remember everything due. He posts videos for each lab to help

He is an amazing lab coordinator. He sends a TON of emails each week, but they're full of due dates, useful information, etc. The midterm and the final were hard however, the amount of extra credit made an A easily attainable if you put in the work. The labs themselves were time consuming at times but the reports were straightforward, not difficult

His midterm and final were hard, but he gives out an insane amount of extra credit, so i dont see how anyone can struggle to get an A. Lab is really annoying but its so easy. He also rounded people's grades at the end. Very very nice and caring. As long as you dont skip lab youll easily get an A.

Dr. Hickey is such a good lab prof/coordinator! He has everything organized so it is very easy to see what I need-- He wants you to succeed. He can be reached by email, and is empathetic to students. He posts videos describing each lab and the assignments. For midterm/final posts videos going over answers to prelab and postlab. Very helpful for it!

Had this prof for Orgo I and now I just finish Orgo II with him. And I gotta say, Orgo II was the first chemistry class that I actually found to be a very fun learning experience all thanks to Dr. Hickey! Take him if hes available!

The orgo labs have a lot of homework, but Dr. Hickey is the best professor ever. So nice, so caring, makes it ridiculously easy to get an A. I would take any class that this man teaches! Love him so much

Highly recommend Dr. Hickey for any lab you can take with him. Super amazing teacher and person. He is always there to help if you need it and he is very accessible. Orgo lab can be challenging but he really cares about his students' success and he will do everything he can to make sure that they are prepared to do well in the class.

Although you'll never work with Dr. Hickey directly, he is one of the best instructors at Wayne State. He is very clear about everything in the course, and when it comes to lab, this is an absolute necessity. He responds to emails quickly, within 15 minutes, even if you're emailing near midnight. All around outstanding instructor.

Amazing lab coordinator. His exams are a bit challenging, but he gives you the materials necessary to prepare for them and succeed. He also gives so much extra credit, and the lab sheets help your grade so much. As long as you put in a little effort for the exams, you will easily get an A. Orgo lab takes a lot of time and work but Dr. Hickey wants everyone to do well and provides literally ample resources to do well in the class including his own lectures. If you do the work expected the entire semester the final will be no problem and he offers a lot of help.

So organized, kind, approachable. Sets the class up so we can all succeed. The final was a bit hard but if u did the assignments all semester long u should be solid. His due dates + emails + syllabus are structured so meticulously. more than enough time to complete every assignment. Being online he wants to make this as smooth as possible

Dr. Hickey is such a sweetheart honestly, I can only imagine how awful this lab wouldve been with another coordinator. Now for the final: DONT memorize the quizzes, understand them! Take those quizzes seriously, they literally mirrored the final concept wise. If you understand the concept youll be good with any of the pooled questions.

Dr. Hickey is actually a very caring professor and luckily quite easy. He responds very quickly to emails and is always helpful whenever you do ask him questions. My lab was both online and in-person, and it was very organized. You are also able to drop a lab. Overall, he's super chill and this lab course shouldn't be difficult!

Dr. Hickey is a super chill guy. This lab is a lot of busy work, but he makes it easier with how organized and cohesive he keeps it. He gives you every resource to do well. Quizzes before and after every experiment, post-lab questions, reports, etc., and the final can be a grade-killer. He's a great instructor and wants his students to do well.

If you're going to take this class, take it with him. The material can get boring at times but he's fairly lenient with your grade by dropping your lowest score for each assignment type. Due dates are made abundantly clear, and if you need to ask him anything, you can email him a question and he'll get back to you asap

This man is heaven sent. He was super understating when I wasn't able to do an in-person lab, and overall takes great care of his students. He's the best lab coordinator.

Amazing, kindhearted, understanding, the best lab coordinator or even professor in the WSU science department. Its still orgo lab and youll still need to put in about 1-3 hours a week for it aside from physically attending the lab. Take the quizzes seriously, dont memorize, understand and youll be solid.

Dr. Hickey is an awesome lab coordinator. I have had him for three semesters in a row and was able to really well in all three! Very kind, helpful & organized. Put in the work and prepare well for the final and you'll do great!

He is genuinely one of the nicest professors Ive ever had. I would highly HIGHLY suggest taking a lab with him. Hes extremely understanding if you ever make a mistake or need help. Dr. HIckey is a great professor and his organic chem lab is designed for students to really understand the basic concepts and methods of using organic chemistry in lab. The lab portion is really easy if you show up each time, but the workload is a lot. Also the final exam is really difficult, so be prepared.

The lab instructor is great! The TAs sometimes may have difficulty answering some of our questions but you should be fine. Complete the required assignments and lab reports and you should be able to do well in this course. Also, make sure you know how to do each of your lab report problems , seriously will help you a lot.

Dr. Hickey is an amazing professor that cares for his students and makes the lab class so much easier for them! He put everything on labflow this semester and it made the reports/quizzes easier to access and complete and was always available to help if there was any issues. Definitely recommend anyone to take him if they can!

Dr. Hickey is one of the best professors I've had at Wayne so far! He wants all of his students to do well. He responds to texts and emails very quickly and is very understanding. If there is an issue go to him and he has no problem with you doing it over again for full credit. The final exam was also very easy. Definitely take him!

I took Gen Chem 1 in the past with Dr. Hickey and I am glad I took Orgo 1 this semester and now Orgo 2 with him next semester. He is super helpful and responds back fast to emails. My TA was incredible. Make sure you go through his syllabus!

I really love professor Hickey. He is very understanding, and unlike most professors at Wayne, he actually does his job. The lab is an easy A as long as you do all the assignments given to you. If you are confused about something, you can literally just text him, and he is more than willing to help. I definitely recommend joining his Whatsapp.

This guy? An absolute G. Bro is super understanding and will give you re-submissions on LabFlow. His TAs are top notch and grade easy too! Bro is a total unit, I love how chill he is. Immaculate vibes. Labs never run for the full time either, unlike biology.

The lab isn't bad and it usually ends early if you work with others. Assignments are really easy and simple. He made a WhatsApp chat for us to ask questions which was convenient. No exams, only the final which is not a big deal if you do some light review. Overall well organized and not stressful.

Dr. Hickey regularly sends emails and announcements to ensure that everyone has a clear understanding of their responsibilities. We got two drops for labs, pre-lab quizzes, and summaries, which was very helpful. Overall, the content is very fair and it is easy to do well if assignments are done correctly/on time.

Hickey is an absolute gem, best thing that happened to wayne states chemistry department in my opinion. We need more professors like him. If you have beef with hickey its on you fr man is a delight.

He won't be teaching you directly as he is the lab coordinator but that doesn't stop him from helping you with anything you need help in. He's extremely kind and will answer almost immediately. Unlike some lab coordinators, he actually wants you to pass chem lab. Don't be scared of chem lab!

The best! Everything is so easy, with multiple attempts on labs. Crystal clear. Learned more here than in the actual chem class. He is so kind and understanding. I'm taking org lab just because he's overseeing it. Weekly emails. Clears up any misunderstandings. Just the best!!!

Great Guy

Dr:Hickey one of the best lab professors that I have took. You could always reach him through email. It takes him few minutes to reply which was very helpful. The labs weren't that hard. He gives extra credit at the and of the semester. His final exam wasn't hard just study the labs and the calculations and study two days before the exam.

Dr. Hickey is one of the best professors I've ever had. He truly cares about students, he's easy to get ahold of (at almost all times of the day), and he works hard to make labs interesting, safe, and easy. This professor is outstanding. He provides all the resources you need to succeed, all you need to do is put the work in. He explains things very clearly without complicating it. He is also very easy to reach outside of class. It is a large class so you don't get to talk to him very often but when you do, you can tell he truly cares for your success

Professor Hickey was truly caring. It is not an easy class. You have to put work and effort but an A is possible. He explained everything very well and always had a study guide for every exam so you can know what to expect. As long as you know everything on the study guide and do practice problems, you will do fine. Would definitely take again!!

I've only had him for chem lab but he is one of the best instructors. He understands that lab takes a lot and is one credit so he wants to make sure you pass with an A. It's very hard to get below a B+, you just have to go to the labs and do the assignments on labflow and you'll be set. He responds very quickly and wants to help resolve any issues.

Prelab quizzes, assignments, and lab reports are all on LabFlow, have multiple attempts, and are very easy. Calculations (which he shows you how), not data or sig figs, only matter on LabFlow. Final exam is lab reports for four labs (super easy). Hard not to A+ this class. Hickey is very responsive but TA's are very rude, leading me to give a 4/5.

Prof hickey was very lenient with grading and allowed students many more attempts on lab reports if we needed them. He made a whatsapp gc which was helpful and allowed fast communication with him. Told us exactly what would be on the final and gave a lot of EC points after the final too. The lab TAs are the best though - super chill gotta love them

The absolute best and sweetest! I wish he taught every chemistry course, I would take him a million times. He provides you with more than enough resources to be successful for the exams. You have a pre-quiz, a pre-lab assignment, and a lab report to do every week--- there's no quizzes or a midterm. There's only one final in the end, in which you get a study guide for. Overall, just show up to class to get your lab points and that's pretty much it.

he is bitterly the nicest I have seen. he always tells. us what is expected. on the exam and he provides tests. from previous semesters which are very helpful because the exam is to be so similar. I love it I barely study but still at low A which is about 91%.

Deserves his high rating. Works very hard to be accessible to his students. You won't see much of him in person unless you go out of your way, but very available on Whatsapp/email.

I am good at chem., but if even if you aren't, you will succeed. Go to class and take notes on the important stuff and you will pass. It is very easy and straightforward to learn and Prof. Hickey is very accessible for any questions. I took this Winter 2023 and would take him again if I needed more chem. classes. He is great at what he does!

A sweetheart. Accessible on whatsapp + gives resources for each lab that helped me pass and is overall nice. Definitely for orgo 1 lab take him and if your lucky you will also have a good TA. Also for orgo 1 lab we had ec and wrote a lab report and it helped me reflect + he gave lists of what to study for each practical which helped a lot.

Multiple attempts on quizzes and activities. Weekly lab reports annoying so don't procrastinate. Study review guides for lab practicals. Most students don't have the common sense to go see Hickey; he will help you much better than the TA's. Actually go to Hickey and talk to him; he is so nice and approachable.

Prof. Hickey oversaw the grad students running the organic chem lab I took, so while I did not see him in person too much, he was always available and incredibly helpful whenever somebody had problems with the online reports, questions about the material, etc. 100% would want him overseeing the future labs I take.

Prof Hickey oversaw my Organic Chem lab, and he is genuinely an amazing guy. I went through a lot my sophomore year that caused mental health issues, and he was accommodating and compassionate through and through. He cares for his job and will do extra to help students 10/10

Hybrid version of the class, lectures recorded during Covid, often do not match the plan for the year. The worksheets often contain mistakes but he is willing to fix them. Professor Hickey is nice and happy to answer questions. Attendance is taken by the completion of Friday's in-class worksheet. I would personally take the regular in-person class.

I took this class twice, both times were taught very differently. This time was a lot better (hybrid). As long as you watch the lectures and study based off the material he provides you will do fine. His grading is very clear and he provides ample material to study off of. You'd have to slack real hard to preform poorly.

He is a very nice teacher and very helpful. Back then I never understood chemistry but because of him I believe I can do better at science. I will definitely miss his classes and he will always remain the best teacher of my freshman year.I highly recommend taking this professor.

Dr. Hickey is an excellent General Chemistry 1 Lab professor. He gives clear instructions and is approachable during office hours to answer questions. He also creates a WhatsApp group for support. While the lab isn't too difficult, the lab reports are lengthy and time-consuming. Despite this,I highly recommend him for his dedication and helpfulness

Dr. Hickey is amazing! I took him in the Spring/Summer for this class and he was very helpful! He always had study guides/sheets for class and the extra worksheet for participation was very helpful! He was also very clear on what he would test you on! He was also always early to class and stayed behind in case anyone wanted to ask questions!

Tests and quizzes are similar to the worksheets he gives. Explains concepts in a clear way. Discussions are helpful. You can get extra credit from parts of the worksheets.

I only have positive things to say about my experience. He does an amazing job at teaching in a clear and concise manner. Simple and straightforward lectures with easily accessible lecture recordings. He is respectful and gladly answers questions. He is an easy grader for tests and awards effort despite being wrong. Overall, an amazing professor.

majority of your grade will rely on exams. 4 total exams plus final. final replaces lowest exam score, and you can drop 4 attendances. hes a good professor, lectures can feel a bit long but it gets the job done. use his study guides and ask questions any chance you get. lab is easy, and you get to drop one.

Do not listen to any of the negative reviews. Dr. Hickey is the best - he cares for his students and actually helps them learn while making the material interesting. His tests are very easy and he gives us straightfoward study guides to go off of. This man saved my life.

Professor Hickey is by far one of the best I've had at wayne. He's such a good lecturer and teaches the content in a way that instantly makes sense. Some exams I don't even need to study for because of how good his lectures are. He is also so nice which is a plus. I wish he could teach all my science classes. I'll always recommend him!

Great and easy class its just that he dos not really teach that much and would always have grading errors but he is a great guy and always willing to fix his mistakes and gives extra credit.

The lab is quite annoying but very very easy. As long as you keep up with the weekly tasks, save your lab drop for the #7 Boyle's law lab (trust me on this, you will thank yourself) and don't fall behind too much, you guarantee yourself an A.

He is such a great professor. His ways of teaching in the lecture are so good and he tries to find shortcuts into how to solve. My grade would have been around a c without the extra credit he gives out but so far it is at a b. He gives out extra credit like it's nothing and any mistakes he makes he literally just gives extra credit for it .
