Funny, replies promptly to emails, and really cares about the learning of his students. Only downside is that there is no homework points, so all the points come from lab, quizzes, and exams.
Dr. Humphrey obviously cares for his students' educations, and you can tell he enjoys what he teaches about. However, you do not get homework grades; fortunately, he drops an exam score. He is a great professor, though I did find this class incredibly challenging. Go to office hours and SI sessions! It was a mistake for me not to do these things.
Dr. Humphrey really cares about his students and the subject he is teaching which is really refreshing these days! He tends to talk a little fast but he does pause to let you take notes. All the lectures are posted on blackboard and there aren't any attendance points, so no need to go to lectures if you watch them online. Exams are touch but fair.
Dr. Humphrey is hilarious and is a great professor. He is learning how to lecture as he goes and adjusts if you give him feedback. I will miss his class
Dr. Humphrey is the best bio teacher I've ever had. He actually cares about his students and will adjust if you give him any suggestions. He goes over the material at the perfect pace, explaining concepts, using powerpoint, pictures, videos, funny examples, and real world applications. I will actually retain what I learned in bio because of him.
Humphrey is an excellent bio lecturer! He cares about his students and is always open to suggestions for improvement. All exam ?s come from the lectures, so reading the textbook is not necessary. Attending lectures is not mandatory because they are all recorded on BoilerCast. Exams are easy if you study the lecture PowerPoints on Blackboard.
Study the lectures and understand the material and you will be just fine
Dr. Humphrey is awesome. His material is challenging, but he takes a genuine interest in improving his teaching so that his students can succeed. As long as you are proactive in studying for the exams and quizzes, you should do well in the class.
Humphrey is such an amazing professor! He takes his time teaching the material and is very approachable if you have questions. Class attendance is mandatory (poll everywhere) but his lectures are cut and clean. It is not an easy class by any means, but if you go to the TA help sessions and study your notes you will do fine. One of my fav professors
Humphrey is one of my favorite professors I've ever had. He is so kind and helpful and will bend over backwards to help students succeed. I really struggled in Bio but he made it bearable and helped me a lot in office hours. Humphrey is amazing!
Most amazing professor ever!!!! I would honestly take BIOL 111 just for him! Lectures are a must but if you miss they are always on boilercast. All his exams are lecture base and he is very clear on what youll need to know for them. His lectures are clear and easy to follow! Amazing professor 10/10 recommned him!!!
Dr. Humphrey is amazing! He made a basic biology class much more enjoyable, and he is able to break down the concepts very well. All of his lectures are available online after lecture, but going to class is the best option because he describes things so well. Things can be a little fast paced, but if you pay attention you will do well.
Bio 110 with Dr. Humphrey was better than I expected. He had great lectures and was able to easily break down tough material. He was conscious of people's questions and would wait for everyone to finish notes, so he moved at a good pace. I would definitely take a class with him again!
Not a difficult class. Dr. Humphrey makes general biology easy and somewhat enjoyable. Really good and caring professor.
This guy is so excited to teach everyone biology that he forgets it's supposed to be a difficult class-- he also likes to throw bonus points at everyone because he wants everyone to do well. Super funny, very kind, and grades multiple choice exams for partial credit. Can't get an easier teacher.
Amazing prof- always available outside of class and explains things super well. He's also extremely caring and puts at least 2 bonus questions on every exam
Dr. Humphrey is so far the best professor I have had as I begin my first year of college. His lectures are simple to follow. I went to the majority of lectures and ended up with an A. Study the presentation slides and you will do well on the exams. He does not write the lab practical material, but study hard for those since they're super difficult.
Bless Dr. Humphrey's heart. This class is not 100 percent easy but he makes it worth it. The lecture exams were composed of material directly from lecture slides. Lecture questions were counted only for participation. Homework is so easy, no way you can miss them or get the answers wrong. Also gave 30 points extra credit. Lab practicals were hard.
Dr. Humphrey himself is a great professor and I enjoyed the class thoroughly except for the tedious recitations that I felt completely unnecessary as they "reviewed" material that was new and not taught in lecture :/
Dr. Humphrey is an absolute angel. Great teacher who cares about the success of his students.. does everything he can to help us succeed. I wish he was my uncle
I loved having Dr Humphrey. I wasn't super interested in some of the material, but he explained it well and linked it to real-world examples. He really makes an effort to make sure students are understanding material and that they aren't falling behind. He's a real kind guy.
My favorite professor of all time, explain things well. Midterms and final exam are lecture based and its super easy. Lab practicals are little difficult but youll be fine if you study. I took Bio 110 with him last semester, got an A+ easily and Im currently taking Bio 111 with him.
I absolutely adore Dr. Humphrey. He makes every student feel cared for despite the large lecture classroom. I had his class at 7:30 am but I still made it to class every day because of how much I enjoyed the course and the way he taught it. I only used the textbook for the homework assignments, but it's not necessary to read it for the exams.
Makes complex topics easy to understands, great use of visual aids, and listens to class feedback. Also very nice person :)
Lectures are very information heavy, make sure to take notes! There is homework due almost every week and make sure to participate in POLL EV for easy points. Professor Humphrey is always willing to help and is very easy to reach outside of class time. His exams can be challenging if you do not know the material.
Dr. Humphrey was instantly my favorite professor at Purdue. I haven't take a bio class in years and he was very thorough in lectures and really helped his students understand the material. He truly cares about his students and made sure no one got left behind when taking notes. He is also one of the nicest and most caring professors here at Purdue
Sean Humphrey is 100% the best professor at Purdue no doubt in my mind. The material can be a little challenging but he does a great job making it understandable. It just sucks that the lab portion of the class is terrible. Study a ton for the lab practicals if you want a chance of passing those.
Humphrey is a very good professor. His lectures are clear and you will be prepared for exams as he provides many resources to help studying. He makes sure he is clear when lecturing. He also stops to ensure people can ask questions, finish taking notes, etc.
sean humphrey is the greatest prof of all time. you will be in biological heaven in one of his classes.
Dr. Humphrey is such a great person! Both a really good lecturer and kind professor. It's easy to get in A as long as you review lecture notes (his exams are DIRECTLY from everything in the powerpoints/lecturesnot the textbook!). He's one of the best biology teachers I've ever had.
Classes are very engaging, and well-organized. Humphrey is also very clear on what to use to study for exams. Amazing professor wether you're interested in biology or not he makes this material fun and makes complex processes easier to understand.
I absolutely loved this class. Dr. Humphrey is engaging and fun to listen to. There are lecture participation points, but you don't have to be in the class room for it to work. However, I found myself never wanting to miss. Content is easy to understand and exams are strictly from lecture slides. He truly cares about students being successful!
This was my absolute favorite class the entire semester! I did not have a problem getting up for the 8:30 lecture. Dr. Humphrey is always willing to answer questions and help you. He really cares about his students and will explain a certain area of biology until you understand it. By far one of the best professors!
Dr. Humphrey is the absolute best. He tries to make good jokes in class and use relevant examples showing us why we should care about a topic. Humphrey ensures that everyone has all of the information written down before moving on to the next slide and only puts lecture material on exams. You know exactly what you need to study/do to get an A.
My favorite thing about him is that he will only test you on material discussed in lecture itself. No outside sources are needed for studying (not even the textbook or homework). It is clear he wants his students to succeed and have a positive outcome in his class. By far my favorite professor.
Dr. Humphrey made biology very enjoyable. Even though my lecture was the dreadful 7:30 am slot, I was always so happy I went to class. He never failed to make our class laugh and was instantly eager to answer questions. You can tell he took the time to research his material and prepare for lectures.
Dr. Humphrey made me love a subject that I always dreaded. Unlike most pofessors, Dr. Humphrey got straight to the point which encouraged us to learn and not just memorize random stuff we will never need to know in real life scenarios. I wish I could take all my bio classes with him.
Amazing professor. Super friendly and fair. You do have to study a little, but it is very easy to pass. Lectures were super interesting as well.
Took BIO 110 and 111, and loved Dr. Humphrey. His course is designed so if you arent the strongest test taker, you can still do very well in the class. Lecture exams are solely based on lectures, so homework and textbook reading info that he doesnt mention isnt necessary for the exam. Would 10/10 take again, I love bio because of him.
I loved having Dr. Humphrey! He is funny and cares about his students and he is able to make complex topics fairly easy to understand. His exams are usually things from the lecture slides verbatum and the homework is a completion grade, so there's no real need to actually read the text.
Sean Humphrey is hands down the best professor I've had at Purdue. His lectures cover a lot of content, but he breaks it down in a very clear and understandable manner and only tests over material on his slides (which he uploads for you). It's obvious he really cares about students and wants us to do well. Overall awesome guy and awesome class.
Dr. Humphrey is the best professor hands down. All his exams are lecture based (nothing from the textbook or lab), majority of the points you earn in his class are completion based (showing up to lab, finishing hw) and he always finds a way to make every lecture enjoyable. Had him at 7:30am and showed up to every lecture because it was enjoyable.
I love him. He loves his students and dont take him for granted because Donna Fekete is a sadist.
Professor Humphrey is very knowledgeable about his field. Although his BIOL110 class was online this year, his lectures were still very thorough and helpful for the lecture exams. His tests are solely based on information covered in lecture and half the questions on the final were directly from the lecture exams. Very good professor and funny guy!
Lectures were easy to understand and straightforward. I always felt prepared for all of the coursework, and the contents of the exams were always described in detail. Also, Humphrey was very open to questions, kind, and funny :)
Easiest class ever. His lectures are great and he prepares you for the exam really well. There's also a ton of ways to get points and it is very easy to get an A or B in the class.
Now this is a professor that actually cares. He understands that this is a 100 level class and not a weed out class. I had him my first two semesters at Purdue and he was so good at making this class doable. His lectures were really great, everything was vary organized and well done. Overall he is just a good dude.
This class is super laid-back that we are watching videos two years ago. Overall, this class is nice and I would recommend anyone to take this class during summer for an easy good grade.
Professor Humphrey doesn't take attendance but he does give credit for Poll Everywhere, so attending lectures isn't mandatory but it will help your grade. He is honestly on of the most caring professors that I have had and he really does take his time to explain everything thoroughly. His lectures are concise and I feel like I've learned a lot.
Fantastic professor! Professor Humphrey is a great BIOL 110 and BIOL 111 professor and its really easy to get a good grade in his class. I had it fully online but all of the exams come directly from his practice exams/study guides. He does a really good job to make sure that everyone is able to get a good grade and his lectures are really good too.
Wonderful professor! Hes super nice and approachable. He gives you time to write down notes during lectures and doesnt rush. His tests are very fair and its a pretty easy class!
Sean Humphrey is a great biology instructor.
He clearly cared about the students and the material he taught. He explains the material effectively and does not move too fast in his lectures.
He is awesome
Easy class. BIOL112 is just BIOL110, except you don't have to go to lab or recitation. He's good at teaching the class, and teaches well to a big class. Also just a nice dude. Recommend.
Dr. Humphrey's strong reputation precedes him, and the hype is well-earned. As an excellent lecturer able to explain even the most complex of topics, he made the Krebs Cycle seem palatable; how many professors can pull that off? On top of that, the course is well-organized and tests are very fair--by all accounts, Dr. Humphrey is the total package.
Dr. Humphrey is an absolute legend. Purdue should be thankful to have someone like him teaching Biology. He does a very good job explaining difficult concepts in lectures, and he brings in good humor once in a while. I also asked him for help in his office hours and he was very friendly and happy to help. Proper legend of the Biology department.
Such a great guy, he always keeps the lectures interesting and really invests his time in teaching students how the concepts he teaches apply in the real world. You will have no problem having success in any of his classes as long as you put in effort.
He is a real gem in Purdue. Miss him forever.
He is a great professor who has great lectures, he is very approachable, and I would recommend him to anyone. This class is not super difficult but you will definitely need to do some studying for the exams. If you have taken AP bio, this class will be a breeze.
Sean Humphrey is the best professor I've had thus far at Purdue. He genuinely cares about his students and is always so kind. He also makes sure you understand the material rather than blowing through the slides super fast. Could not recommend him more! 100/10
He is easily one of my favorite professors Ive had so far. His exams are very based on his lectures and he doesnt pull any tricks on them. Homework is easy and quick and you get points literally showing up to class and doing the poll everywhere. Also, hes just funny. I dont even like biology that much but he makes me want to come to lectures
Amazing overall!
He always took the time to make sure everybody understood and had written down the material before moving to the next slide.
Overall just a great guy and super easy to learn from
Sean Humphrey literally made my day on multiple occasions, he is really that dude. Outstanding professor!
Overall a good professor. Has a fair grading system where we can get lots of free points such as attendance and connect homeworks. Exams are from lecture slides only. Lab exams are a bit hard but you can easily make up grade in all other criteria. Even drops some attendances, homeworks, and quizzes. Definitely take for science requirement.
Dr. Humphrey is a very good dude. He is an excellent lecturer, as shown by his willingness to wait for people to finish jotting down notes before moving on. Plus, his lecture exams aren't very stressful, assuming you study, as they are solely what he covered in class and nothing else. And not to mention he is a chill dude.
Favorite professor. Cares for his students and is completely transparent with what will be on the quizzes and exams.
He is amazing. I enjoy going to every lecture. Lecture exams are not difficult. He shows that he cares about his students and education.
As long as you put in the effort to study before the exams you will do amazing with him!
So caring and helpful whenever you ask him questions or are confused on lecture material. As long as you look over the lecture material, the lecture exams will go great. He even says in the beginning of the semester his goal is for everyone to get an A.
He made the material fun and interesting to learn while also keeping it easy to understand. He always checked for comprehension and waited if people were still taking notes. He never really rushed through his presentations but also never went over time.
Love this guy. Learned almost everything you needed from lectures. Homework was easy to do well on. Exams only required you to know what was learned in lecture. There were attendance points given but you can still do well if you miss a few lectures.
Dr. Humphrey was very good at engaging the students during lectures. He was pretty funny and really knew what he was talking about. His lectures were enjoyable.
Biol 110 and 111 were probably my least stressful classes. Prof. Humphrey's lectures were simple and easy to understand. Exams questions were from the slides and easy to score well on. Honors Project were also up to the student and quite fun to work on. He is an amazingly understanding teacher who wants to best for students!
I would give Dr. Humphrey my firstborn son and my entire life savings. Easily one of the best professors at Purdue. He is caring, so so so knowledgeable, and overall a great person. It is easy to do well in his class if you just put in some effort. Lecture exam questions are right on his presentation. The only tough thing is his lab exams.
Professor Humphrey is a really great lecturer & classes are enjoyable. Unfortunately, the lecture & lab exams suck. I would study with Quizlets, notes, help sessions, etc., and still not get a great grade. There are many other ways to bring your grade up, however. Beware of the 7:30 AM lab that you may get. Recitations were pretty pointless though.
I've had Sean Humphrey for BIOL 110 and 111 and he is one of my best professors so far at Purdue. He is able to make lectures very interesting and even acknowledges when we're learning material that is kind of boring. He is also really funny and he posts the lectures online in case you miss them.
the lab practical exams are very difficult. The lecture exams are easy. Make sure to participate in poll everywhere because it is worth 20 points and is easy.
One of my favorite lecturers, made hour long lectures entertaining however they were not necessary to attend. Just make sure to do the Poll Everywhere, it's an easy 20 points added to your grade each lecture.
TAKE THIS FOR A GEN ED! Tests are online, recitation quizzes are over the notes from class, and labs are mostly online. An easy A, and Humphrey is a great lecturer. Even as a business major, I was interested in what he was teaching, even though it had nothing to do with my plan of study.
Best professor you can have for Biology at Purdue. I actually started looking forward to his lectures because they were both interesting and understandable. Exams were all online and very reasonable. You can tell he really cares about his students and their learning!
Dr. Humphrey was one of the most amazing professors i've had. It is very clear that he cares about his students and wants them to pass. During lectures, he waits for students to finish notes before moving on to the next slide. Lecture exams are very easy, but lab exams are a bit harder. Exams are online, but quizzes are in recitation.
Sean makes bio110/111 one of the easiest classes Purdue can offer, with the only remote difficulty coming from lab exams and recitation quizzes, even if you end up with a 7:30AM or 5:20PM lab, they're still easy points. If you don't need bio, I would still recommend taking this class as a way to boost your GPA.
Great lectures, kind man, will always make time if you need extra help; the only struggle of his course was the difficulty of the lab exams which are written by someone other than him.
love him
Professor Humphrey was a super nice, fun and caring guy. He is understanding and is good at answering questions. Bio 110 is not super hard, there is a lot of lecture material but the exams are online so it is not too bad. The concepts are well taught in lecture and it's not too much information at one time like some other classes.
Sean Humphrey is the best Bio prof, he cares about students, lectures are clear and materials are comprehensive and easy to access.
Professor Humphrey does a great job teaching with lectures that are understandable and accessible. Pretty easy class with lots of easy points even if you struggle on the lab or lecture exams. Slides and lectures are posted online if you can't make it to class.
Amazing professor! Although biology is not nearly a favorite science, Dr Humphrey made this the most enjoyable bio lecture experience that I could imagine. He is an intriguing person and truly cares about students. In his office hours, he even kept a notebook and recorded people's names and facts about them to get to know them. Just great! 10/10.
so nice and caring
He was excellent! He has very concise lectures that are easy to review and the lecture exams are not overly difficult. He is very open to answer questions during or after lecture even though the class is large. He is happy to help with questions over the material or even things like research opportunities. He wants you to succeed!
Great guy. Came and saved us and replaced a HORRIBLE professor. Gave us all extra credit and exams were online in the lockdown browser but didn't use the camera. Good lectures and helpful assignments that didn't feel like busy work. 11/10 would recommend
Saved us from David Sanders. Exams were online, and pretty reasonable! Homework felt useful and included questions that were pretty similar to the exams. Would take classes from him again!
he's the goat
I took Bio 110 with Dr. Humphrey. For a 4 credit hour course, this was not bad at all. The labs were not too difficult. Having lecture and lab exams online was nice! Would take again. He is clearly caring toward his students and passionate about what he does.
I could go on and on about how much I liked Dr Humphrey. He took over our class with very little time to prepare and he did a great job. He saved all of our GPAs. He is caring and he explains things in a way that is very easy to understand. The exams were really easy compared to other biology classes I've taken. Overall he was a great professor.
Actually amazing. He cares about his students and knows how stressful life can be, and he really tries to make sure not to add anything that might cause more stress. If I had a professor as kind as this for every class, I would never complain about anything ever again.
You can tell he genuinely cares about his students' learning experience (unlike a certain other professor). His homework assignments and lecture slides make it very clear what will be on exams. He also gives so many extra credit opportunities. Would take his class again if I could.
Fun professor who was easy to understand and interacted well with the class. Made the lectures incredibly enjoyable and made sure to answer any questions the class had. Also included some fun facts about things we were learning, which were fun to know.
Dr.Humphrey did a great job teaching 231 considering the circumstance of being thrown into it during the first week of classes. He really cared about our learning and made sure we were all on track to still be successful. His lectures were actually interesting which made the material more digestible. He is great and so nice!
Dr. Humphrey is my favorite professor at Purdue! He explains materials so clearly and really cares about students' learning. BIOL231 started with content that I thought was too simple for an upper level biology course, but the content became more interesting as the course moved forward. He did a great job with the course under the circumstances.
A nice and friendly professor who clearly enjoys what he does. His lectures are both entertaining and easy to follow, and he is always willing to answer students' questions.
Best thing was recorded lectures so definitely utilize them- I skipped the class for like a solid month whoops but going to labs and doing the homework really helped with everything- this is such an easy class so no stress.
His lectures are very easy to understand. The only grades he submitted were the homework (you get two weeks to complete it and three tries), iClicker (participation/attendance credit), and the exams (done online).
One of the best professors I have ever had! He simplifies complex topics and makes is realllly easy to understand. He cares a lot about each of his students and makes himself easily accessible outside of class.
LOVE him. Always recommend his classes
Genuinely the best professor I've had so far. Very caring and understanding. You know he's good when as an engineering student I didn't sleep during his class and actually paid attention and learned🐐
Very caring and sympathetic. He's a great resource to students and is very approachable. Lectures are very engaging and straight forward. Gives students ample time to write down notes during lectures. No complaints.
Easily one of the best professors I have had! He is so organized and his class is nearly impossible to fail if you just do the work. I literally got an A and never went to lecture my first semester. The lecture exams are easy if you study. The lab exams are rough but if you do bad you will definitely still pass the class so don't stress. Love him!
Professor Humphrey did a great job, with clear lecture slides and helpful outside resources, like his review sessions and posted practice problems. Unfortunately, the recitations have changed, and some questions on the quizzes are factually impossible to answer with the information taught in class. It's still possible to do well, but be warned.
very good, learned a lot
Humphrey is a very sweet and passionate guy. Lectures are not attendance mandatory, but labs and recitations are mostly mandatory. He posts all of his lectures online and the lecture exams are also online (and only over lecture material). Lab exams are more difficult but online as well and doable. Honors contract is very easy and manageable.
Dr. Humphrey cares about his students and is very willing to help. He makes lectures interesting by providing real life examples. Lecture exams were straightforward since they reflected what was on his notes. Lab exams are more challenging but doable as long as you review the handouts on OneNote. I would definitely take again!
I never went to a single lecture or watched the recordings online. Labs and homework are easy 100%. Recitation quizzes were a little challenging at times, but the recitation discussions were not bad since work was split between a group. The majority of points definitely come from the exams. I never interacted with Humphrey. Easy class overall!
Lectures always covered the content presented in lecture exams, and he always tried to make the topics more interesting and relevant. Dr. Humphrey is very knowledgeable and always has an answer for questions in lecture. Exams were fair as long as you paid attention to his examples. Recitation quizzes and lab exams were the most challenging.
Humphrey was amazing! He is a great lecturer and posts the blank and filled in copies of all of the notes. The homework is pretty easy and you get to continue trying on it until you get a 100%. The tests are also much easier than the quizzes, so if you do well on the quizzes (the TAs go over everything right before) you will do well on the exams.
Dr Humphrey is a phenomenal professor. He ensures that his students actually understand the material and can take notes on the lectures. His lectures are entertaining and are posted online. Exams are also all online and usually easier than the quizzes. Homework is for completion.
Amazing. Just amazing. He posts the slides AND video recordings of the lecture.
Amazing Professor. He is highly kind and understanding! The course overall is very manageable and interesting. Kindest professor I have had.
The greatest professor I have had so far at Purdue. Easily accessible outside of class and very helpful. He breaks down the content into small chunks that make you understand biology and not simply rely on rote memorization. Unlike a lot of other profs, he doesn't move through the slides at a million miles an hour and lets you absorb the content.
Great professor highly recommend
Very chill guy, lectures don't count for attendance and all quizzes/exams are online.
