Arrogant sure. Demanding very. Clear expectations yes. If you want to learn and really stretch your brain, he'll do that. If you just want to show up and pass the class find another professor. He will help and guide you. I had him over a year ago and he still helps me with other classes. A great professor!
I had him for Bus 102 and 103. Pretty hard professor and also give you a lot of reading, writting and research. However, he'll push you to the limit and beyound. Excellent professor and highly recommended if you don't mind the work.
This is not too hard of a class if you want a B. Getting an A in this class is hard, so if you need an A do NOT take this class. To do well you need to be a good writer and be willing to put in a lot of work. Professor is pretty arrogant. =(
His level of conceit is so high, you can sense it in every word he utters. He looks down on his students as petty, ignorant, stupid liberal blobs of flesh and acts as though he has lived life twice already. His coursework is tedious and repetative. Lectures are random and subjective; he likes to throw out partisan arguments and not allow debate.
Great teacher, loves what he does!
This guy is part of the reason why I want to get out of UCR in general. He is a terrible professor who assigns to much for you to do given a 40+hr workweek and on top of this he is full of himself. Do yourself a favor and dont take this course. You will do ALOT Of work that will give you little to no payout.
I thought that he is arrogant and unhelpful to students. his lectures are repetitive and class is mandatory because during my class the day I missed he sent an attendance sheet around. he also assigns work that has no grade value and expects it to be done (ethics handbook).
I have gastrointestinal problems and Dr. Jasso kindly looked out for me. Honestly, his class isn't easy. You must study and pay attention, and do your homework. His expectations are clear, readings are thorough, research requirements are manageable. He calls out bad students. He's improved his teaching and how he listens to students.
People, this is COLLEGE! Yes, there is a 15 page paper, yes, this is a difficult class, yes, you will be required to do work. But what else do you expect from a college course? You will not go far in life, or this course if you dont try. So put in some effort, and you'll be fine.
Dr. Jasso was the antithesis of a good professor. Self-absorbed, self-important, and making reference to his own work as the authority, he has no concept of how to properly communicate concepts. He also assigns weighting of grades to bizarre places. I got B- to B on all midterms/final paper and got a C-. For TAS, Vinesh is horrible, switch now!
(Continued)If your TA is kind and you are good at writing, talking about ethics with big words, than you probably get a B+ or A-. Otherwise, you cannot make it. 15-page law research paper, 4-page case study and a quizz each week. Mid-term takes two days to write tedious essays. He never looks at them at all. He is pointless and ignorant in lecuture
I don't understand why people are bashing this prof. He is a cool guy who actually cares about the students. Yes his class is annoying hard, but welcome to college. We aren't in high school anymore. Enjoy it.
An excellent professor. For the people who are dumb enough to think that your professor grades all your work... YOU ARE IN COLLEGE...TA's grade the work. He's a nice guy and if a great professor. Yes this class is rediculously hard... but he is a good prof
I have to say this course is all about writing. Simply it is a writing class but with no feedback. If you are a self-regulated people and very good at bluffing, you need to take this class. The professor is teaching in three schools(ashamed for a Ph.D.). It is no wonder that he never grades and gives out the same essay quesions over and over.
Attend lecture so that you can get the essay questions for tests, read the book, lecture will not cover everything needed for essays, start the 15 pg paper right away, easy pick is the Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002, there is a quota on A's given so complimenting him makes a difference between a 89% or a 91%
this class is a waste of time and you will find yourself wondering what the professor is talking about half the time because he constantly goes of tangent. Insane writings that are just busy work and have no value towards your actual education. TA's grade like crap and are a little weird so avoid this class if your looking for just grading.
The worse professor at UCR period.
There is a ton of writing, 3 in class essays, 10 page paper at the end and 4 case studies that are 5 pages each. If you are good at writing you'll get an A. Go to office hours, TA and professor! Get feedback on your writing. I thought it was an easy, interesting class. Review the book and notes often.
A real teacher. Expects a lot and gives a lot. Makes you learn through critical thinking; best way to lean. Lots of writing, but the experience is rewarding. Very articulate. Cares about students. Inspiring. Intellectually engaging. I'll take more classes with him. If you want to lean do the same. We need more teachers like Jasso.
first of all, jasso is far from being the best, but rather is limited at best. He is a teacher who still wants to focus on being young and appeal to a simple minded crowd, and at the same time wants to act as if he is one of the best intellectually which is completely absurd, his teaching method is stale and out dated, he is the complacent one.
Prof. Jasso is a conceited prick. AGSM should think twice about who they hire as a lecturer. Talked down to us students. Felt like he thought he was better than everyone.
Class requires small assignments. There aren't that many readings, just 1 case study. Overall the class is not diffucult I would say its a relaxing class. Easy filler if you dont have anything else to take. I recomend if you want an easy class.
I loved Jasso. I think he's brilliant, and taught us better than any other professor at UCR. But don't expect to show up to class whenever you please, his lectures are crucial and extremely beneficial. There's a lot of work, but it's worth it. You'll learn a lot!
I had him for both 107 and 102 at the same time. Class isnt all that hard. But he has a tendency to go off tangent which makes it hard to follow what he is saying. I don't doubt his intelligence, but the fact that he was a lit major makes it hard to understand him sometimes because he feels like he can make up words sometimes.
i feel helpless in this class. it's like a english writing class. focus on academic writing and readying. i don't really learn anything about business.
dont take him.
I took both 102 and 109 from this guy. He is the worst teacher i ever meet. Tons of writing assignment every week, but he never look at them and give us feedback at all. lecturing is random. it takes your a lot of time without learning anything. nobody knows why ucr is still hiring him and giving him a lot of class to teach.
this teacher is the worst ever. If you can, avoid him at all costs and don't pay attention to the positive feedback of other students becuase the fact of the matter is that its not true. Plain and simple this man is just bored and is going to take it out on you with a pointless amount of work and stupid convo
worst ever.needs a beware of idiot sign attached to him at all hours. The only thing hes worried aboutis practicing on his students to learn how to speak well in public hesgoing to work the crap out of you just because he feels he had it hard n college. watch out for the malice and sneaky low bows.u will learn that college doesnt teach u everything
Where do I begin? Sean is quite a CHARACTER He will belittle you every chance he gets and LOVES doing it. Don't take any of his lap dogs' advices, they are the ones that are waiting outside his office hours like bunch of groupies waiting for a rock band. His demeanor is to make your life miserable. Avoid him at all cost. Plain and simple.
WOW. I've had him now for BUS 102, 107, and 109. I can honestly say that he is intelligent but ARROGANT to no end. All those positive ratings that appeared on 12/03 must have been added by the same liar because every course required at least 4 case studies. TONS of work. If every prof taught like him we would all take over 4 years to graduate.
OMG!! the worst professor ever in UCR!! didnt' learn a thing in this class!! talk randomly all the time!!!!! let TA do all the work, all he does is picking on students and ridicule them in class!!!! heavy amount of work , but in the end u will learn nothing!!! meaningless class!!! ucr should fire him!!!
Just because other professors are easier doesn't make Jasso a bad professor. Yes, there's a lot work to do. I took double Jasso last quarter and you can't even imagine the amount of work I have to do every week. I was still able to get A- for both classes. So people, stop complaining if you're lazy and just want to get easy A's.
Professor Jasso is my idle. I love how he acts, I want to be like him, hes a good teacher. Yes he is good at giving a lot of work and making one think deeply all the time but this is the typical all American/Republican/capitalism activist/arrogant Professor. He is amazing!! Reminds me of Dad
When I first signed up for his class, I was skeptical because of all the negative comments. I came in with a bad impression of Jasso but that completely turned after the first wk. He's a chill dude. A lot of work here for sure, but it's not that hard of a class. Tests are essay format so that's not bad either.
Professor Jasso is an amazing professor. He is clear ad understandable and he is fair in grading. It you don't do the work or make the effort you are not going to get an A. He actually gives his students the skills and understanding of the subject to use in their future, rather than preach a topic and test your memorization skills.
He is a great professor is lessons are useful in everyday life. His class is not for lazy people but for people who actually want to learn the subject. You can get most of the information from the lectures. I passed without even reading the book.
lots of work/ Case studies& quizzes every wk, paper at the end of the quarter. Just make sure you DO the work, go over the chapters in the book before quizzes, and you'll get a somewhat decent grade. It is hard to get an A in his class, but getting a B to B+ is fairly easy if you put some effort. Honestly he isn't a horrible guy, I like him.
Amazing professor. Definitely recommend. However, it is not for lazy students. Just DO the work and you will survive. I have learned a lot from this professor.
I actually really liked jasso. He really cares about his students and wants everyone to do well. I learned alot from his class
He doesn't just give out A's. If you want to learn you will. I say take him and get to see what real work means. Yes, there's a lot of writing but if by now you can't write then you're a lost cause. I loved the class. Great teacher.
He is extremely egotistic and won't stop talking about himself.
stay strong
Best professor I have ever had out of all of the professor's I have had. Really cares about his students, extremely cool, do the work, read, study stick with the schedule, get to know him and you will position yourself for success, to win. Take him as much as you can but beware BUS 102 is a lot of work so schedule accordingly! 103 is okay though!
I have had Jasso for two classes now and I really like the way he teaches. Yeah, you actually have to know the material. No bubble tests or free riders with huge curves. If you do the work and study well for his test you will do ok.
He has found a way to make common sense very hard. His TA's grade ridiculously hard and he never makes it through any of his lecture because he constantly goes off on pointless tangents. I have learned a good amount but mostly through my own reading and work, not from him. Unfortunately you must take him for three classes if you are Business major.
jasso is a smart guy but none of that has to do with making you smart. He will say a lot of dumb things that don't belong in a business classroom and waste 82% of your time. Really just enjoy reading the text and learn how to deal with people who dont desearve to tell you anything because thats life. dont become a follower and stick to who u are.
Great professor. He demands perfection from his students, which is really what most classes are missing. For too long students' apathy and mediocre performances have been acceptable. Stay strong, and win.
Finally a teacher that speaks English clearly. Make sure you do the reading or atleast scan through it. Look at slides to prepare for quizzes. Rely on yourself and believe in yourself! But do seek help when needed. Use resources. Use your time wisely b/c this is a material demanding course. You need to know your stuff. Lastly ask for extra credit!
This review is for jasso only, not the class. he is a good professor. gives you the EXACT questions before all midterms so you can study in advance. class average on midterms is usually around 83%.. challenging to get an A, easy to get a B IF YOU DO THE WORK. its really not that much.
A step-by-step how-to-guide to get an "A" in any of Sean's black-hole waste of time sucking classes. 1. You do not need to attend lecture except on days when there is something major (because that is when he takes role). 2. You do not need to read the book (because he does not go over any of the readings)
Anti-Jassonian Commandments 1. Thou shall only attend lecture on pre and post important days 2. Thou shall read the headings for quiz answers. 3. Thou shall build a drinking buddy rapport with thy TA.4.Thou shall not inflate Sean's unworldly ego. 5. Thou shall not take any of Sean's belittling.Want advice contact antijassonian@gmail Stay smart
I've taken Jasso for 102, 103, and 109 and gotten an A's. Really, his lectures are a waste of time - there's no point of attending lectures. Buy a $5 edition of the book off Ebay since you probably wont need it. Dont waste your time going to Jasso's office hrs since he doesn't grade any of the work he assigns. Get to know your TA.
Professor Jasso is a bad professor. His lecture are just waste of time. don't buy books for his class. you might need book to do case study but you can borrow it from library for 2 hours so don't buy it. His Exams are stupid, and the guy himself is egoistic. he doen't know how to teach a class. He never grades any exam or peper.
LOVE THIS GUY! By far the best professor I have ever had. He is so smart you can't help but be entertained in lecture. His exams are given to you ahead of time so that's cake. The reading is intense but worth your time. You have a big paper at the end but suck it up we're in college.
I had Jasso for bus 102 and 103 now. I really like this guy. His lectures are interesting for the most part and are relevant to the business world. He knows what he is talking about and is a great professor! Take a least two of his classes!
Great teacher i really was not sure about the class, but i really like it and it is an easy class, marketing is fun and the teacher is awsome.
Best business professor on the UCR campus. Lots of critical thinking and hard work.
Jasso is an awesome professor. His lectures are entertaining, course work tedious. Tells you information you could use in the real world later. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Always a pleasure taking his classes. There are take home tests which can be more of a challenge than blue books.. over the class was great and fun. It is a nice ellective but as ususal the class has a large project and quite a bit of writting.
Yes, he's a difficult professor, but not because he's a moron. He puts a lot of value in critical thinking, and I really appreciated that. He's a great speaker and very intelligent. You've got to work hard in any of his classes, but I think it's worth it.
Awesome teacher! I love how his lectures are informative & helpful in your assignments & exams. Exams are given to you 4-5days before so it's hard to fail unless you didn't take advantage of that & research the questions. I wish he taught communications, then maybe I would have LEARNED SOMETHING & passed! Learned alot from him! Viva la Jasso!!!
Absolutely love his teaching style. 2 midterms but the questions are given to you a week ahead of time..did I mention that the questions are EXACTLY the same. Section attendance is mandatory so get a good relationship with your TA. 15 page paper for final but about 5 of them is your given law so it is not bad at all.
Dr. Jasso is a smart gentleman with a lot of practical real world bisiness knowledge to pass along, go to class and listen and your grade will reflect that. Midterm and final questions are given to you.nlook at his field of study and you can probably guess which question he will choose for midterm. Overall a great professor.tons of reading though
He's quite the show off to say the least. Which is wrong since im basically paying to hear him brag. Given I do think he is quite clever and well versed, I do feel he is unfair as he purposely instructs his TAs to only give a few people grades higher than 90%. So if u weren't one of the lucky, it didn't matter how hard u tried nor how good it was.
Perhaps the best Business professor at this school bar none. Material he teaches are straightforward; midterm and final questions are given to you a week in advance and they are EXACTLY the same as the tests. You have to seriously try to not receive at least a B in the class
This class is a joke. You can be taught better and be more engaged at the community college level. Don't waste your time buying into his B.S. None of it matters in the real world. You're going to have to go it alone! Apprentices u Are. Do yourself a favor. Don't take him to0 serious. He's a teacher not upper management.
Jasso's lecture: today I will talk about me and then about other important things, like my family and my PhD.Jasso's attitude:I will pick on you every day, just to boost my ego, I don't care about you, you liberal splotch, I will have you do jumping jacks because you slept through my lecture. But he "shapes" students?!What an horrible human being!
Class graded around an enforced B+ average. Most the TAs can't speak english, and they grade your essays. Grades are handed out arbitrarily. If you're willing to pay for your grade, you can spend $30 at CPK for a fundraiser he holds to get extra credit. You get a B without trying, and there's no incentive to work with hard when As are arbitrary.
Prof Jasso loves himself. I mean he copyrighted Sean Jasso PhD! He will also only use articles he has written as supplemental material even if not the most relevant. There were some great nuggets of information in his lectures, but overall he was ill- prepared for class and did not provide MBA level knowledge. He reminded me of my junior college pr
Its true, only a selected few get an A-. If you get an A, you bought your grade at CPK. Tests questions are given before hand, but dont expect an A becuase the higest you will get is 89 or 90. Jasso just talks about himself and his life. Halfway through, there was nothing to take notes on anymore except his life, his family, and him.
Jasso is such a poor professor. After taking his marketing class, I don't feel I ever learn anything from him. And if I ever learned any marketing from that class, it was from my reading I did on my own. He made his lecture funny, but you can't learn anything from his lecture. It was a waste of time. I only took this class because it's required.
Jasso gives too much work. Such as a 15 page paper minimum and several 1 page max papers. He's also the only one who teaches 3 business classes at UCR for some time now. UCR should have other professor's teach these classes not just Jasso.
Too much work and doesn't explain stuff too well.
This guy is beyond words. Makes his TAs hand out grades arbitrarily b/c he wants his students to "try harder" and I ACTUALLY mean arbitrarily. I was in his office hours & a TA walked in to show him the spread sheet of graded work and Jasso told him to make certain grades LOWER because he didn't want student to think they were doing a good job. COOL
My problem is with the assignments. Although you have this opportunity to learn a lot about a company, the fact that the exams are based on individual companies is silly. It means your answers can be made up practically. I wish that the lectures were more focused and looked at case-studies of companies and offered in-depth analysis.
If you fail any Jasso class, it's ultimately your own fault for not doing the assignments and doing basic studying. If you put forth the effort and do every assignment, you're practically guaranteed a B. He puts forth effort to make lectures enjoyable - he's definitely one of the best speakers on campus. Just do your work and show up.
I absolutely love Jasso's classes! He's a great lecturer. He's very knowledgeable and passionate about what he teaches. His class is no easy A, but if you work, its definitely possible. The work load is just right. Keep in close contact with your TA and do the extra credit and you will get an A.
When I first took his class, I was afraid because I heard a lot of complaints about him. He's actually a great teacher that expects you to put in effort rather than half-assing it. There is no way you will do well if you BS this class. Yeah there's a lot of reading and work to do, but it's meant to prepare us for the workplace. So do your best.
Dr. Jasso is by far my most favorite Professor at UCR. Dr. Jasso keeps his students awake and engaged. In addition, his explanations of the material are very conceptual. Dr. Jasso encourages his students to do well by challenging our ability and encouraging hard work and good ethic.
This class require a lot of reading. By a lot I mean dense size of article no less than 10 pages of grad reading level. (Most are pretty difficult to understand, while a few are not). Going to class seems pretty point less but I still go anyways, because most of the time he just talk about his life, family, and few case studies
Jasso is one of the best professors I have ever taken, but he is still very hard. 109 is even harder than 102 and 103 because you have to account for group projects now too. Make sure you don't get lazy people in your groups, plan it out before class begins. Don't take this class if you plan on taking more than 12 units, the workload is insane.
So hard to get an A but yet so easy to get a B, its like he does this on purpose. Extremely hard grader for NO apparent reason. Gives extra credit but essentially you have to spend $ for it. Assignments are long and tedious. His TA's even grade so hard because of his grading criteria. Also, difficult to approach.
Jasso's lectures were pretty useless. They were centered around him, as he's a very cocky and arrogant professor. Grading seems to be extremely subjective so just go to TA office hours and you should be good to go. I didn't learn a single thing from this class. Would avoid.
There are a lot of assignments but it is expected since this is college. His lectures help with the midterms. Jasso and the TAs are tough graders. I feel like they deflate grades on purpose. The grades given for assignments and tests are subjective and tend to stay around that same range.
A lazy lecturer with insights shallower than a tepid pond. He has a superiority complex than men of middling stature often have and tries to pass himself off as a profound academic. Sad reality is he's a washed up try-hard lecturer who dazzled starry eyed undergrads with cheap humor. This is my retroactive reflection on my experience with "Dr." J.
Dr. Jasso is one of the coolest professors at UCR; and very funny might I add. I don't care what the rest of these comments have to say! The articles and books we had to read in his classes were so interesting and really inspired me to want to learn more. You learn really important information that can impact your career in a profitable way.
Dr. Jasso is an amazing lecturer, there's no doubt about that. You should pay attention in his classes. That being said, as an individual, he's abrasive, and can be mean. Forcing students to do push-ups and jumping jacks is not okay. Insulting students for 30 minutes is not okay. There's a fine line between criticism and insults; he crosses it.
Dr. Jasso is a very tough grader. His lectures tend to be very long as he goes off topic and calls students out. Reading notes have changed from last year; 10 point font and what not, it takes work. Also 2 exams and a final marketing plan; critical to do well in those. I received an A- barely, kinda impossible to get a flat A. Mostly gives B's out.
Jasso is ok. However, do not take summer classes at UCR because UCR administration does not tell the truth about the fees students have to pay for summer school. Many students don't know that they must pay the summer school fees at UCR like a whole academic quarter with new fees of a new cycle year. This school also hired bad professors for summer
Easy B class. Lecture is boring and unhelpful. Attendance is not mendatory.
Worst. Professor. Ever.
Had him during summer school. We had 2 online take-home exams based on a company we chose. Min. was 10 pages double-spaced for exams. Don't write more than 30-40 pages. Talk to the TA and show him/her what you wrote in your papers based on the books. I was probably the only one who talked to my TA. I don't know if he does this all the time.
Reading every week, but don't bother unless you're actually interested. BS through every single paper, two of them every week, nobody ever reads them. If he said a paper is 2 pages maximum, write exactly 2 pages. Useless lectures, make sure to show up where there's a quiz, or when it's raining, otherwise ditch. You'll get a B if you write long.
I've had many professors throughout my time at UCR. Some were unenthusiastic while others had thick accents that were hard to understand. None were as bad as Jasso. This man is extremely arrogant and cocky and doesn't own up to his mistakes. He thinks he is a god. Lectures are useless. Everyone receives a B regardless of whether or not you try.
Terrible professor. He makes sure that you won't get an A unless you go and kiss up to him in office hours so be prepared for your GPA to tank. You don't learn anything in his classes because he just talks about his life instead of actual class information. He should honestly find a job as anything else but I guess tenure is too attractive to him.
Class is pretty much a guaranteed B. Dr. Jasso is a tough grader but he really does care about his students and their learning progress. The lectures were really interesting and went by so fast. Really try to understand the main themes of the class and writing notes/final papers will be a breeze!
Halfway through my final 15 page marketing paper I began writing about the holy war between the gods blessed, glorious Pepsi Empire against the demonic slaves, the degenerate Coke Horde, in these exactly words. I got the same B as all the other try-hards that did their research. Enough said.
In lecture, he talks more about himself than about marketing. What a waste of time! Even during test days, he wastes time talking about useless things before he lets us start the test. Lastly, the workload is ridiculous. The class is a easy B and B-.
Dr. Jasso is an amazing teacher I would definitely recommend him. The only catch is you need to attend lecture everyday and should not sleep in class or he will call you out in front of everyone. He gives weekly papers every week where you have to do it in 10pt font so be aware. Be careful of the group project make sure you have a good group or els
This class was easy. You have 1 assignment due a week from a article he provides (usually 10 pages) or a book he tell you to get. (its on audible so you can listen to it). The midterm and final is CLEARLY OUTLINED on what he expects. 1 project thats a little time consuming due at the end. dont buy the textbook. you wont use it.
Annoying and very arrogant. I honestly wonder why he teaches three required business classes. I feel like I'm forced into taking a large portion of my classes with him. The ethics class with him is very... interesting. He's said some questionable statements like that people with depression have bad ethics.
Worked really hard and ended up with A-. Nobody got an A. You need to put in at least 15-20 hours per essay and 20-30 pages if you want to get anything more than a B. Use examples, talk about bigger picture impact, etc etc. Or, save yourself the stress and get a B. It all depends on your willpower.
After taking three Jasso classes, I can honestly say that you will be in for the toughest quarters of your undergraduate years. Professor Jasso is an amazing lecturer, who often goes off on a tangent to talk about his life story. He's very egotistical, but he cares about his students. A B's a guarantee, but you'll have to work hard for that A.
Quizzes suck, but tests aren't bad if you study. He gives essay question options before test so you can prepare. To get an A, make sure you engage with the materials during the test. There are a few ungraded, required assignments which is annoying. Lots of small essays. Lectures are very interesting. Professor is brilliant & knows his stuff.
This class requires a lot of writing. Only a very small number of students get an A. His classes are known for only giving students B's. His lectures are often off campus at the movie theatre, so don't try to schedule back to backs if you are taking a Jasso class. For 102. We have two midterms and one policy paper. The paper is 25% of your grade.
This class is a joke. Boring lectures accompanied by weekly essays that roughly translated to six pages, two exams scheduled during week 10, a final paper 12+ pages and other misc "special work". Prof. has no respect or consideration of students and their other courses. All of this busy work, with no clear grading criteria was a waste of time.
His teaching isn't bad when he's actually talking about the material but he tends to talk about himself and other things that may/may not be related. Had him for 102 & 103, it is a lot of writing. Things are due almost every week so keep on top of it. If you do the work and put in some effort you'll get the B. Don't bother trying for an A
He is very knowledgeable with practical experience. Although it may not always seem like it, he really cares about his students under the sarcasm and sharp wit. If I weren't trying to get into grad school, I would always take his class but unfortunately the current education system prioritizes grades over actually learning so pick an easy A class.
He's ok, he makes you write a lot, 10 point font, and single space. Papers are due every week. There is a 12-page policy paper. The midterm and final were not too bad, just know the reading. He tends to be a bit full of himself, so he will ramble about himself. If you do all your work, you can get a B. He takes attendance sometimes.
lectures are completely unnecessary and ramble on what feels like repetitive and unnecessary information. give an enormous amount of reading and writing to do, which equates to roughly an essay every week. if you take BUS 102 & BUS 103 together the amount of work needed is around 2-4 essays a week not counting studying for the tests
He assigns a lot of little assignments but if you've taken bus100w you should be fine with this class. Lectures are useless but he's an entertaining lecturer. He is very approachable if you need help and overall the class is very straightforward.
Horrible proffesor
not recommendable
This guy is the worst. Cocky, rude, likes to mess around students, enjoys seeing them struggle and stress out. He thinks its funny. Made a few racist remarks as a joke. Just cause you have a degree doesn't mean you're fit to be a good teacher. Should not be a professor at UCR.
Thank you, next :(
Hate how we have to suffer two classes with this clown. What a joke class. Lectures are usless. Assigns so many papers to make up for the lack of material because he doesnt teach anything. Expert at wasting our time which is the only good thing about him. Really wish we didnt have to take bus 102 or 103 because of this doofus.
Currently taking him for 102 as well, took him for 103 last quarter and it's the exact same class. No clear grading criteria along with TA's that hate what they're doing is a terrible mix. Mostly every assignment is /5 but TA's have told discussions how they are limited to 4.40 as the highest grade for some reason. Lectures are pointless
Jassos lectures are just all over the place and full of fluff. Confusing and its all about him and his opinions. Make sure you dont have anything planned for the quarter while taking this class because you will have to do 1-2 papers a week for this class. Also, make sure you take discussion with a great TA. Youll need their help!
If you are a Business Major you will have to take Jasso no matter what no avoiding it. I had him for 102 Wthics and Law. Just will say be ready to write and read a lot, if you just do what is required of you, you will receive a B. Just focus, study and you will be golden.
Professor sucks. Jasso rambles about himself a lot and has fun making the student's time difficult. The lectures are practically useless. When he says there's an 'extra value' opportunity, don't even bother cause it's a waste of time. Also, for some reason he does not give full points to any assignment. It's practically impossible to get an A.
Biggest tip I can give you: bring the text book, put on headphones, and read. You won't have time for the text over Jasso's off topic rambling and ridiculous assignments. I'm holding off on bus102 till the spring 2020 in hopes he is not teaching it. This guy is a lucid nightmare. YOU WILL GET MORE OUT OF THE TEXT THAN THE LECTURES!!!!!
Awful at teaching and gives too many papers with a grading structure that never allows for A's.
Unpopular opinion: Jasso is tough, but a great teacher. He's charismatic on the subject and knowledgeable. He's really funny in class. It's rigorous, but a challenge worth facing. Yes his papers are tough, but i honestly became a better writer having endured it. The (3) books you write about are interesting too. Few articles too.
There's a lot of essays and books to read, but he's a fair prof. Assignments are a good way to kick a procrastination habit. Lectures are very interactive; he calls on random people sometimes. Exams are writing intensive, but he gives out prompts a week ahead. Do the extra value. He makes u work hard for the A, so do everything. You'll be fine.
This class should have been 5 units. The amount of work he assigns is ridiculous. There is basically an essay (2-3 pages, single spaced) due every week + additional smaller assignments like case studies and discussion boards. TAs are ordered to grade harshly. The only good thing about this class is that he uploads the exam questions ahead of time.
TAs grade harsh. Lectures are useless, I went to each one thinking otherwise. Extra credit is added value (0) bc "added" at the end, got the raw B+ instead of A-. EC did nothing. UCR do better.
A real lazy professor with a lazy team that just hands out Bs on every assignment. Doesnt respond to emails as he thinks hes right about everything. Thinks his class is so special when its really just a core class
Worst professor ever. Lectures are pointless because all he does is rant and go off topic. Super cocky attitude and doesnt teach you anything. Horrible image for a college professor. Makes you write heavy writing assignments that you can never get full points for. Class is ridiculous. Never again.
Professor Jasso is a megalomaniac. He reminds me of Trump the way he rambles on and on about nothing and himself. He genuinely enjoys being a professor only because he enjoys babbling about himself in front of students forced to be there. A terrible excuse for a professor and a waste of time. Ive taken him multiple times because of core classes
the most terrible pro i have seen. you need to write more than 20000 words paper in a quarter. you even need to finish a 250-page book a week.
Jasso has great lectures where you can learn a lot if you listen. He is a very difficult Professor that just doesn't give out A's unless you visit his office hours and know him personally. Is unfair in my opinion but still a very great teacher that makes Marketing super easy to understand. DO NOT TAKE HIM FOR AN A but if you wanna learn take him.
I really hated 102 because of the workload and the fact that it was at 7:30am. But Jasso for 103 was not as bad as people are making it out to be. I'm not sure if it is because I have taken a class with him before that the work easier this time around or if its because there was not as much work, but I actually kind of liked this class.
Don't get me wrong, Jasso is a tough professor. You're going to have weekly papers. Format of the class is APA business block format, 10 font, single space. LOTS OF WORK. The people complaining about how impossible it is to get an A probably never went to office hours. Get to know your TA's and take the time to improve your writing- secret to an A
Here's what bothers me. He doesn't give A's unless you pass his MAX word count. As a business major that is unheard of. Additionally, he is very disorganized. He can do SO MUCH BETTER if he sticks to a slide deck and discusses topics and then get into the nitty-gritty. but no. He can't focus on one topic for 10 min at a time. It's painful to watch.
Jasso doesn't really care for his students. He gives massive amounts of busy work so that he doesn't have to do most of the teachings. He started using a new online textbook program called Connect ($100) that monitors your reading progress, hw, and gives you infinite amount of questions until the system thinks you understand the material.
Jasso is a lazy professor that follows the same formula for all of his classes. Having taken BUS102 and BUS103 with him, one can safely conclude that they are the EXACT. SAME. CLASS. with different materials. The assignments are the same, with weekly readings and a project due at the end of the quarter.
He is very knowledgeable and has informative lectures. However, he is notoriously unempathetic, slightly ironic considering how that goes against the marketing principles he teaches. It doesn't seem to matter that an entire pandemic has affected our family, income, and housing situations... work is due when it is due! and a lot of work there is...
There is a 2 page paper due every week based on reading. There are two exams a midterm and a final that are written; however, he gives you the exam questions a head of time. His lectures are 75% him rambling and talking about useless things, but the other 15% is important and interesting Information.
Read, occasional attendance checks, have quizzes & tells you what week but not which lecture class day you'll take it on. Lots of time-consuming papers to write(2pg.,10pt font, single-spaced). Midterm&final prompts given beforehand so you can outline/study it before coming in. grades hard & doesn't give A's (they're rare)
I love this prof, you can tell that he gets excited about class topics. He gives lots of work but that's what makes one learn and retain information. I enjoyed reading the books he had us read. He never made class boring since he made connections with real-life experiences. He always kept things professional yet entertaining.
This professor is very organized. He would let you know in advance if he would not be able to attend the lecture. The books he required were very interesting and not very expensive. This was my first class to ever take at ucr and he made it be more welcoming. A few quarters later I decided to take an elective course with him too.
I took it during Covid. Zero concern for student well-being. Grades were not updated even by Week 10. The syllabus is unclear. Professor unwilling to meet students half way. There is no late policy. Professor posts recordings of himself as lecture and that's it. Does not care if student pass or fail.
so much work! want to cry
It's week 10 and not a single assignment has been graded besides the automatic ones from the connect homework. I will be really blindsided if they decide to grade harshly when they enter all our grades in the end. How are students supposed to gauge their performance, he needs to hold himself and TAs to the same late policy standard they hold us to
This review is for Spring quarter 2020 Bus 109. During the current climate of our world, I asked Jasso to address Black Lives Matter and stand in solidarity with his students and he ignored me and basically said no. Lol. not surprised because he says rude/ controversial things and bullies students even on Online lectures. lol hope he loses his job.
I don't like him because he really did this. Given current situations, he wanted to give "flexibility to students" We were originally going to take the final exam in our discussion class (1 hour) but he ends up changing it for 12 hours take home. Ok doesn't cancel final but makes it even harder. SMH 12 hour exam was similar to the summer exam. :(
Any Jasso class will be hard: expect to write 2,000-3,000 words a week for reading notes. DO NOT take two of his classes at the same time. Get to know your TA's: In the end they grade your papers/tests. His personality can come off as overly direct and abrasive, but he's not as bad as everyone says. Interesting classes, but very hard to get an A.
Professor Jasso motivates the students. The reading notes and case studies are time-consuming. However, the two total quizzes are straightforward. The students must participate in the research experiments. Professor Jasso provides the exam questions in advance. Also, the marketing plan is 15-20 pages. The students must develop a marketing handbook.
Its great that Jasso is so passionate about Marketing but I feel like he forgets that a majority of his students are not even concentrating in Marketing. I understand that it is an upper division course but we take multiple at a time. The workload is unnecessarily more than my 2 finance classes combined, which is my actual concentration.
Its almost as if the professor believes this is the only class we are taking or even care about. If this were a summer course, I would understand the rigor; however, many students are taking 2/3 other important classes and may be involved in a club or may work full time. Students are capable of a lot, but sleep would be nice.
Besides the busy work and Jasso's ramblings, Bus 103 and 102 weren't too bad. Yes, we got a lot of busy work; however, once you figure out how to crank out a spontaneous prose after reading a few random paragraphs of the assigned text, you will be fine. I usually did all these reading notes over a 6-pack. Ended up with a B both times.
Someone wrote sleep would be nice. I couldn't agree more. I hated his class because his actual lecture was bogus, but his readings. Oh man, are they relevant or are they relevant? These are the topics you bring up and impress interviewers with. The class lectures are horrid, and the teacher has an attitude, but no denying he has good content.
Dr. Jasso is an amazing lecturer, however, that is where it ends. It was impossible to get a hold of him outside class, and the amount of work assigned was unrealistic. As a straight-A student on the verge of a C- take my word. FIND SOMEONE ELSE.
This professor literally does not care about his students. Assigns 5 different paper throughout the quarter. 10 font and singled space. Makes the TA grade harshly, and caps the grades at A- and below. He makes the class feel like we only have his class and no other classes. The TA does not grade on time, leaving students to panic for their grades.
I have taken 3 Jasso courses within my college career and I dont regret it. Even though its a lot of work, if youre a good writer, youll be fine. His classes are organized and all follow the same format. I have never gotten below an A- in his class; you just need to know what he expects from his papers. A good TA is important too.
The man, the myth, the legend. Everything you heard about him is true, and this class is probably going to be the worst of it all. Had about 5 paged essays due every week. Sometimes 2 essays due per week. Extremely long term papers and group projects. Midterms were at least 19 pages each. The workload of 2-3 classes in one.
GET READY TO BECOME AN ENGLISH MAJOR!! If you dont like reading and writing then do NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Marketing plan that is 20 pages long its 30% of your grade. 3 article, 2 books to read and you have to write about them. Format for the reading are 10pt font and single . 2 pages for articles 4 pages for books its a lot of work.
Oh, Jasso, the only professor at UCR whose reputation for sheer difficulty is larger than his ego. He loves to assign busy work, eight 2-3 page single-spaced essays over the course of the quarter, as well as a much larger term paper, AND two exams. Unfortunately, because he teaches multiple required courses for business majors, he's unavoidable.
Honestly, just get ready to have no time for yourself. I feel like Jasso has no consideration of the mental well being of his students. His huge loads of work show that he does not care that some us have other obligations outside his class like other classes, clubs, orgs, or work. People say he's funny but I think he is just fulling his ego
TA sent out announcement apologizing that he does not give anything above a 94%. You have a paper that requires roughly 1700-2300 words due every week along with a discussion post every week. He sometimes sends out the discussion posts the day before they are due. You do not need to pay attention to his lectures to pass his class.
Class is doable as long as you meet his minimum requirements. For ex. when he says "maximum 2 pages" he really means 2 pages EXACTLY and that's just to get a decent grade of at least 90%. TA told us he doesn't give grades higher than 95%. Relaxing weekends? Never heard of. Reading/article NOTES? More like short essays. Also, 10 pt. font is his bff!
Taking this class is difficult because Jasso expects every single student to be passionate and caring about marketing in order to get an A when this is a mandatory class for the other concentrations.
Y'all, Jasso isn't that bad. He loves his busy work and you'll read A LOT!!! But the reading is incredibly relevant to real-life application. You have weekly papers and one huge one due at the end of the term. It's a lot of work, but it is doable and manageable. I honestly didn't mind Jasso, he's a lot, but he's fundamentally a good teacher.
Readings & 2-3 pg papers due every week. Busy work. Material is easy & applicable, basic bus. philosophy/law. Professor is detailed & organized. Syllabus highlights everything you need to know. Tests are short responses. 15 page paper due as final. Grading is weird, class average is a B because it's rare to get an A? Overall, not as bad as it seems.
Jasso is typically not liked by students because he gives a lot of work; however, it is very difficult to say you didn't learn anything coming out of his class. He is easily one of my favorite professors. Prepare to exercise thinking critically--If you want an A, know the material and provide your opinion in your work. Always ask questions!
Most busy work I've ever done. Even if I did learn anything, it doesn't matter because the material he teaches is absolutely useless in the workforce. Only someone extremely narcissistic would assign as much work as he does.
Get ready for the worst experience of your college life, brought to you by a mad and arrogant ethics professor whose class makes you so miserable that you drop everything else in your life that actually matters. I'm definitely worse off after taking this class. You'll write hundreds of pages, and get Bs for all of them, and learn nothing.
Why does UCR have a bad image all over California? because of entitled absolutely subpar Professors like Jasso. The fact he still has a job at the school is remarkable, I took him for Bus102 and 103 also, those two classes should be inspiring to college students rather they are just extremely painful when he is teaching overall just a bad teacher.
The class is a horrible experience. There is so much reading and then you have to write like 2-4 pages of notes about it. Then you have to weekly McGraw-Hill assignments, and a weekly discussion post. Then there's two exams that make you feel unprepared. If you don't allocate most of your time to any of Jasso's classes, you won't survive.
Both classes took a similar format, weekly readings and papers with a massive final written project, and essay format midterm and final exams. Insane amount of work for both classes. You can't say Jasso doesn't care. Discussed my struggle to keep up because of many factors and he worked with me and was very understanding. I definitely learned.
Jasso is the professor that everyone loves to hate on. He is not that bad. You will read A LOT and you will write a lot, but it is doable. If you don't keep up on your work you will fall behind and it'll bite ya. I have taken Jasso for three course and this is my fourth with him, all of which I've received an A- Just do the work, its not that hard
I can feel he is experienced in a field of his expertise. However, he gives too many homework and readings. In addition to that, the way he explain things is not that straightforward compared to other professors. I think his lessons will be way better if he change the way he explain contents.
This man has ruined my life. I'm only a couple of weeks into the quarter and I have already suffered more than I could ever imagine. On top of the weekly papers, we need to write, there are also discussion posts where he does not let us see the other responses. He doesn't respond to my emails & seems very arrogant just because he thinks he's right
I don't think this class is worth the amount of work you're supposed to do. the amount of reading makes it feel like I am in graduate school studying to become a lawyer. He is one of those professors that thinks his class is more important than others and that this class will change our lives and shape our careers. Get ready to read.
Oh lord. Sean Jasso's instructions are incompetent to put it lightly and when you email him, he responds in cryptic passive aggressive messages. Everything in this class is up to chance. The TA's do what they can and the content isn't the problem, he is the problem. He does not prepare you for the final 20 page marketing plan at all.
Jasso feels entitled to attention and effort from his students yet refuses to ever give them full credit for assignments. This class is equally as confusing as it is frustrating. He expects you to go over the page maximum for an A (ik, doesn't make sense). His instructions for hw are so contradictory and vague, especially for the final essay.
This is extremely bad class. He never give students more than 90% of all grades. A lot of reading and writting. This should be 8 units class! Do not take his class. GPA killer!
This class is a joke. My major isn't even marketing but this professor gives so much homework. He needs to understand that students have other classes, aren't marketing majors, and have other things to do. His lectures are also boring because it's just videos of a narcistic man talking for hours. It's doable but such an annoying class. Good luck
Busy work is exactly what his course is made up of. Two full pages, single-spaced, 10 pg font paper due every weekend is insane and I cannot stand his narcissism. he doesnt care about teaching or his students
Tons of homework at the first week
There are mandatory readings to his own works his writing is terrible and convoluted. You feel very unlucky that you have to understand how his mind works in order to do simple weekly reading notes. His reputation makes you start off the quarter thinking that you are never going to get an A. I guess Ill have to settle for a B.
I think everyone agrees that this guy sucks. Not only does he make you do a ton of work, but you will also never receive 100%. Avoid this guy especially if you're planning to take a lot of credits. If you're taking two of Jasso classes at the same time, you are basically a god/goddess.
He gives so much homework for one class. Sean creates so much homework, readings, discussion posts to the point where you WILL NOT have enough time for other classes. He continues to add extra mandatory assignments throughout the week at a last minute notice. He expects you to understand the material to perfection or you just get an average score
Tooooo much homework!!!
Jasso requires you to read a lot in his class. He does frequently chat in his lecture and randomly pick someone for his "humorous" questions. He's a pretty cocky person thinks knows everything. Be prepared for two pages single spaced reading notes every week and four pages single spaced book reports. It feels like taking an 8 unit course.
This is what he during the first day of online lecture: "if your cameras aren't on, you aren't in class". All his classes are usually extremely early in the morning (this was at 7:30am). Expect to dig your brains out to write 2-3 page SINGLE SPACED, 10 PT FONT (eqv. to 4-5pg double 12pt) reading notes/reviews every week. Policy paper is 15-20 pgs
The workload is absolutely insane in that we had to read the entirety of two individual books alongside various business articles. This is all in addition to the main textbook. He expects 2-3 pages of single spaced 10pt font reading and book notes every other week which amounts to about 3000 words.
The workload is absolutely insane in that we had to read the entirety of two individual books alongside various business articles. All in addition to the main textbook. He expects 2-3 pages of single spaced 10pt font notes every other week which amounts to about 3000 words. With normal font this would amount to a 12-paged paper every other week.
much of his live lectures are filled with meaningless jokes and conversation. The important information is derived from his pre-recorded friday lectures which often extend past the allotted time reserved for the class. Overall, expect to put in 10+ hours a week to stay afloat in this class.
The class was way too much work and for no reason. The type of professor who cares more about page count than the quality of the content. This was a very draining class and on top of that I found a lot of the lectures to be meaningless... didn't gain much except being tired from all the busywork he wanted us to do.
DO NOT TAKE BOTH OF HIS CLASSES AT THE SAME TIME. It will ruin your life. Your hair will fall out and he will laugh as you have a mental breakdown while assigning you even more homework. It made me sick to hear him talk about having to make tradeoffs in order to do well in his class, well I took both and the tradeoff I made was my mental health.
10 pt single spaced 2page papers due every week, two 10 point single space 4page book reports, two midterms, discussion posts twice a week, online assignments every week, and a 20 page final essay. The constant workload will never allow you to get ahead on the final paper. Midterm 2 was right before final paper Reviews are not exaggerating be ready
This is not a 4 unit class. Be prepared to have non-stop assignments with hours and hours of readings. His live lectures were just him talking. The quality is in the recorded lectures. Avoid this professor as much as you can. You'll only do work, work, work all on your own.
Overall, this class was annoying. The content is fine, but the workload is insane. You are expected to at least read and type 2 page single-spaced 10pt fonts every week. None of your work will be critiqued and to get an A- its quantity over quality. Prof's lectures were also lacking in content. Would avoid this professor if given the opportunity.
Worst professor
absolute narcissist and trash professor. Will give you mental issues and leave the entire class to the mercy of your TA. Doesn’t actually teach and this garbage professor is probably on tenure which is why he’s still here despite thousands of complaints. Someone just shank him for the love of god.
Sean is in a permanent flop era. Avoid his classes at all costs.
Spring 22. Everything depends on TA - makes it clear no one passes w/ A. 3 days total: 2 days attendance req at UV Plaza + 1 day online. WEEKLY: 1. Mandatory online txtbk $120+ w/ hw. 2. Essay either 2/4 pages + singlespace + 10pt font. 3. Discussion post. 4. Sometimes additional essay/lab. Lots of busy work w/ reading articles + 2 chapter books.
Worst professor at UCR. Should not be anywhere near a college campus!!
I don't see what's good on his lecture and he is just TERRIBLE!
Jasso is a cool guy but the workload he assigns is excessive. I could have had the same learning experience without having to write excessive pages of reading notes. The exams aren't too bad the hardest part for me was probably the amount of weekly assignments, which wouldn't be too bad if it weren't for the 4 page single-spaced book reports.
Nightmare
Jasso is one of the worst professors at UCR, ridiculous amount of work and his lectures are a waste of time and useless.
This course wasn't nearly as intimidating as other reviews make it out to be. Yes, there's a lot of writing but c'mon guys, we're in college- this is the big leagues. He's always energetic during lectures and you can learn a lot if you come in with the right attitude. I think a good TA will make all the difference. Overall, not too bad of a class.
One of the worst professor on the face of the earth. He doesn't know how to teach. Weekly assignments are unreasonable.
Worst professor at UCR, IT IS A SHAME THAT THE FACULTY TAKE PRIDE ON A REPRESENTATIVE AS HIM. His teaching techniques are useless.
There are five articles review (one and three pages of singe spaced), a case analysis and a group project (about 25 pages). The most is EXAM (10 pages of SINGLE SPACED) However, if you complete this lesson carefully it is not difficult. However, it may be a bit of a struggle in a normal quarter along with other lessons.
I gave him a decent rating for BUS-103 but 109 proved to be wayyy harder than I anything else I've attempted. Be ready to forfeit any chance of having leisure time as you'll likely be living behind your computer screen. I can't finish this review because my fingers still hurt. At least he gave us a PDF of the textbook for free...
The amount of homework we need to finish are crazy!
Great professor, he requires a lot of work but if you realize why, it is worth it. Not every class in college is going to be easy a class like this puts everything else in perspective. Overall, he is very experienced and a great professor. People don't like him because they don't want to put forth the effort. Very easy if you put effort.
Hard professor but I respect it. Tough but knowledgeable. Highly recommend taking him if you are serious about business in the future and not just to pass the class. Lots of reading but it helped me develop as a student and human.
After reading these reviews I was so worried about this class. But it really wasn't horrible. There was just a lot of busy work. I was only taking two other upper div courses and this one. But it was tolerable, just get a head start on the readings and papers so you're not overwhelmed at the end of the week.
Professor Jasso's class is very reading and writing heavy. That in itself wouldn't be a problem but it's way too over the top at times. His lectures serve no purpose other than being mildly entertaining and he throws in a few zingers here and there yet they're still mandatory. The final paper also sucks at a ridiculous 15 pages! Avoid at all costs!
Paid 100 something dollars to do useless assignments. Literally takes so much time and is not helpful at all. The professor is in a complete mess and you will be lost during the quarter.
one of the worst classes i took. Will never get an A the way these TAs grade. Lots of reading and work
Be ready for weekly 10font 2 pager essays and god forbid you also take 102 and 103 at the same time basically formatted the same. Heavy amount of meaningless work, Lectures arent mandatory but not worth going to anyways as he just "says a whole lot of nothing". You prob have to take these classes anyway, just know its really gonna suck that quarter
This was my first Jasso class. Honestly, after going through the class, it was not that hard. Yes, you must read the books and write and it does require more effort than other classes but it is very clear as to what you have to do to get an A. This class was very enjoyable despite it being intellectually rigorous but it sure got me to learn.
Dr. Jasso's courses rely heavily on readings and paper analyses assigned for each week, so be ready to read and write. Jasso's motto to "do good" and "pursue excellence" inspired me to give my all in his course. Not only does he prepare his students for course related assignments, but his wisdom exceeds to situations outside of the classroom.
If you've taken him for other classes, expect the same thing. Long papers, tedious formatting with 10pt. font single space times new roman, and a long 15 page marketing plan that other profs do as a group project. Please, if you can, avoid if necessary. Just do yourself the solid. I swear I'm forever traumatized.
Communicate with your TA, that's how you will pass the course. Guidelines and rubrics are extremely vague so you really have to talk to your TA about what to do. 5 reading reflections and 1 final marketing plan are the bulkiest. Definitely the hardest class I took here at UCR but you learn a lot through the readings he assigns.
Honestly, he isn't a horrible professor, however, you never really get anything from his lecture videos, grades hard, and tons of writing. So good luck to whoever is taking him
BUS102 and BUS103 attendance wasn't mandatory but BUS109 is (maybe just during the summer). His courses aren't difficult, but he does assign a lot of busy work. Honestly, I did not get anything out of his courses. Just felt like one big waste of time. Good luck to those that are or are going to take his courses. If you can AVOID HIM!!!
Dr. Jasso is a decent guy. He has strong opinions on a lot of things and goes on rants during lectures. I actually like the material that you have to read sometimes but until he actually teaches what is required to read for the week, it does not seem like we need to be in the classroom instead of being online.
dude is nice and all and very passionate about teaching but assigns way too much workload. Assigns stuff over the weekend then makes it due the next day and didn't even go over/mention it during the whole week during lecture. This class isn't hard but it's just a lot of unnecessary work. I recommend taking this course with another instructor
Im disappointed in UCR Business School for allowing this person to be a professor. The amount of work is insane. If you are thinking of taking his class, think again. Bad decision
He assigns an extreme amount of busy work. The amount of work he gave was more than my other classes combined. He doesn't have the decency to assign it all at the beginning of the week to get it over with either. He will ruin your mental health.
the max amount of points in a semester is 100 so most homework assignments are worth 0.25 points which is demoralizing when they take ~1 hour. He has Mandatory Friday and Sunday Engagements which are posted mid/late in the week so you always need to be checking canvas and throw away your weekend. The TAs grade everything and they're a mixed bag.
The professor was good but heavy workload for the course- lots of writing and a final marketing project.
He is a great lecturer. He is very engaging with the course material and is passionate about his course material. Its just that there is a lot of homework and a wide range of quality between TAs.
So many papers, I mean so many. When you think you are done, there is another. No exams. TA's practically carry the course. No point in attending the lectures; I don't think I ever looked at the slides after class. Make sure you do the discussions he assigns after every lecture on Canvas (you can honestly do it on your own). Good Luck!
Personally, he is an annoying professor. Not only does he assign so much hw, he has a lot of ego as a professor. I prefer Curtis (MATH022) than his ethics and marketing classes
Is very passionate about his work but thinks that every student is also just as passionate and is willing to dedicate multiple hours a day to study his class. Gives obscene amounts of homework that is not very engaging nor interesting but requires you to do very tedious work.Has weekly 1600 word assignments plus multiple, multi-hour assignments too
First off, there is stigma on his name because he's "hard". He is an upper divsion professor! He is the nicest professor on campus who is intelligent and really wants you to achieve. Don't take any class with him lightly; prepare yourself early for finals, projects, etc, and you'll be okay! Ask questions, don't skip lectures, take notes!
Professor Jasso has been the worst professor I have had. Be prepared to read two entire books that are separate from the main book and give book reflections that are 10pt font, Times New Roman, and single-spaced. He didn't post this week's lecture recordings, which are pre-recorded, until Thursday. Also, u are given HW on Sunday due Sunday. NOT FUN
Notorious for 10pt font, single space, 2-4 page papers. Marketing plan is 15-20 pages (double-spaced). Not too clear about the marketing plan. honestly just yoloing my homework at this point.
Professor Jasso is among my favorite lecturers at UCR. He made the class feel engaged with every lecture.
Had a moment in class where the weather was bad due to rain, many students decided to not come. He takes attendance by discussions and a student shared the answer to a friend who wasn't on campus. Professor found out and blasted him in front of the class. You can definitely pass without going to class, just do the discussion.
Jasso is very enthusiastic about what he teaches and provides you with the full platform to come to him with questions. To succeed in this course, all you need is some time management skills and the desire to do well. Start the essays at the very beginning of the quarter and follow the directions in the syllabus and you'll do great.
The absolute downfall of the UCR business program, a terrible professor. It was so brutally painful to watch my classmates struggle and literally stress over the insane workload. I encourage everyone to report his workload to the dean. I know many have already because of the excessive workload. Trust me just don't take his class, avoid it
Jasso is a great & engaging lecturer, but the assignments are extremely tedious, long, and franky not useful for the majority of business students both during and after college. Never take 2 of his classes at the same time.
Sucky professor, dude needs to take his own ethics course because he is the definition of unethical. makes you write 2 page, single spaced 10 font papers a week, in addition to an "exam" that's 10 pages with a final paper that is 15 pages. Dude is so high on copium that he couldn't teach at oxford that he has to take it out on his students.
2 weekly 1pg reflections for first 7-8 weeks, 2 long essays (10-15 pg double space 12pt font). Have good time management in this class and youll be fine. Only main issue was that he'd sometimes release assignments later into the week. Go and do hw for this class or other classes during lecture as it will save you so much time
This professor is the absolute worst. Two 700-word essays and a discussion prompt every week. Then, he has a 4000-word policy paper IN ADDITION to a 3000-word take-home exam. Others may appreciate that he is passionate about the subject but he does not consider that most of the students do not share his interest in writing about how to be "good."
Prepare to have a PHD in yapology and a black belt in yapkwondo with the amount of "be that as it mays" you will end up writing to make the word count. By the end of his course, you will have lost half your soul and went through 2 quarter life crises. However, his classes has been one of the few academically stimulating courses I've taken here.
Jasso is a tough case. I was given every reason not to like him, yet he is still one of my favorite professors I've had at UCR. I took him twice, for 102 where I got an A-, and 103 where I got a B+ (if I remember correctly). He's honestly a really funny guy, but an incredibly polarizing figure. Attend his lectures. They help and are interesting.
Took time away from other classes due to the workload of this class. Only annoying thing is that his instructions are unclear, he gives them in bits and pieces. It's hard to find anywhere with explicit guidelines. He's generally cool, the material learned isn't too difficult, it's clear in lectures which points he emphasizes.
One of the worst professors I've had to date. He centers his entire class around the use of A.I., to the point where he encouraged students to buy the premium version of ChatGPT to write his final 15-20 page paper. Aside from the extremely tedious essays assigned every other week, he lectures based on what he is thinking about, not from the slides.
I found this class to be fairly easy and enjoyable. Yes, Jasso makes you do a lot of papers but they're not hard. If anything I found the essays to be extremely helpful for practice for your midterm and final. He is genuinely one of the best Business teachers. Everything you learn in his courses can be used in the future and he's funny. Recommend
I found this class to be fairly easy. Yes, theirs a lot of papers but they aren't too time-consuming. If anything these will help you a lot for your midterm and final exam as practice. I would definitely recommend him as a professor he's quite entertaining and funny. He provides essential information to help you in your future career paths. 10/10
Dr. Sean Drake Jasso is far and away my favorite lecturer on campus. his classes are incredibly engaging and his charm made the 30 minute drive worth it.
Not as bad as previous quarters; the work was a lot but manageable. Required to buy McGrawhill textbook to do the several quizzes he assigns on there due every sunday. Assigns reflection essays every other week that are tedious but doable. Lectures arent super necessary to pass but takes random attendance. 20pg final essay (start early!) + 2 exams
Nope Horrible Personality Average business man Terrible just terrible
Dude assigns 9 assignments a week, makes TA grade, and claims to teach an 8k course. Condescending. Not funny. Needs to stop pointing to the students and quit yapping and actually teach. Doesn't answer questions and is always late posting assignments but expects them done. Thinks you're only taking his class. Horrible. Rude. Annoying.
Terrible person, a terrible teacher. Get ready you will never have a good weekend again. Claims his class is worth $8000 but he barely even teaches. He is so condescending and so rude to students. Worst teacher on the UCR campus by far.
Professor Jasso is nice and friendly, he always encourages us and inspire us. THE THING IS there are tons of essays and papers due every weekend. And if there is an asynchronous class you need to prepare for watching something and then answer the questions. There are two exams and one 15 pages paper. Don't take it with other writing class
ppl saying he's nice and inspiring are lying. Students kiss his bum and think he's amazing until he's picking on you a million times and assigning crazy loads of hw. Mental health no bueno
Worst professor I have ever taken. Gives students so much stress and overworks them just to ensure nobody gets 100% on ANY assignment. So unorganized and unprepared, causes delayed assignments posts.
Absolutely awful. Lectures have as much structure as his assignments - none. Incredible amount of busy work (topics repeat several times, questions based on common sense for ex. ____ is when materials are recycled answ. Sustainability) Talked in length about getting turned on from "student's sexy tiktoks". Actually, yes actually, worst class.
People who complain about Professor Jasso have never had a bad teacher. His assignments are not even hard. Usually a page reflection on what we've read. Dont recall him saying he gets turned on by the TikToks, more like why are people sending him that stuff? Also, he doesn't surprise you on exams, he tells you what's going to be on it.
homie below defended prof with his whole life almost making it seem it's the professor. Some students are try hards ig. Professor is horrible and doesn't teach. Lectures are useless but makes them mandatory. Busy work quarter long
Don't let these ratings scare you. The class is not hard at all, and doing the mandatory reading homework assignments and ACTUALLY READING THE ASSIGNMENTS makes up completely for going to lectures. The lectures are a yapathon, honestly I am getting by the class just fine by actually reading the homework. Do that and pass. It's just tedious work.
I mean, Prof Jasso has good knowledge in Marketing BUT NEVER REALLY TEACHES BESIDES TELLING STORIES IN CLASS. single spaced, 10 font, justified margins that could go up to 4 pages AND ONLY WEIGH 4% of total grade? Tough grader too, "PHD level gets full points" is just awful.
The most trump professor ever
Frequently forgets to assign work or assigns it on weekends, giving you only 1-2 days to complete it. Rarely awards full credit on discussion posts. Consistently assigns 5-10 assignments each week, expecting students to focus solely on his class. Doesn't teach, just yaps.
One of the worst professors at UCR. Just gives you busy work and never full credit on discussions. Yaps about everything except marketing.
How are you supposed to improve if you can't get above a 95%. There are SO MANY assignments in this class. The final is a 25 page in depth analysis of a company you choose and I did not have time to start until week 10 because there was many hours of useless work a week. Jasso is also just snarky and doesnt let you ask questions.
Grading is unclear, capped at 95%, and feedback is vague. Lots of unnecessary busy work, but decent writers will be fine, just don't procrastinate. Rated low because he made weird, inappropriate comments about students TikToks being ‘sexy' on the first day, grown man btw.
He's okay as a professor during lectures but his grading is extremely unfair as he doesn't believe in perfect scores, and the highest score is a 95%, but even that is rarely seen. Usually the highest the TA will give you is a 90%, making it extremely hard to get an A. Reading reflections of a single page font 10 single space every other week.
Good professor/lecturer. He certainly gives a plethora of homework, though I learned a lot—HW reflections on the week's readings. Students complain about HW because they're probably not reading and are behind. Stay on top of it and pretend you're in college. Oh, wait, that's right, you are. Recommended for people concentrating in mgmt.
He isn't as BAD as I initially thought. While he doesn't give 100% on assignments, and his homework is tedious/time consuming (reading reflections every week), the content/material and his lectures are easy to understand and he can be pretty fun. However, NEVER take two of his classes at once unless you like constant work.
told TAs to not give over a 95% on papers UNLESS they are PhD quality even though we're undergrads (quite unethical considering he teaches an ethics class). Passive aggressive and belittles you when trying to ask questions. Does not teach during class, just goes on tangents talking about his personal life and work/academic experiences.
Super chill and funny prof who makes law and ethics in business fun and engaging. You can tell he's super knowledgeable. The workload is heavy—3 1k-word papers a week plus a 20+ page final—but totally manageable. MAKE SURE YOU ENGAGE WITH HIM AND ANSWER QUESTIONS IN LECTURE SO HE KNOWS UR NAME! lectures r INTERESTING n I learned A LOT from them.
Great prof with tons of marketing knowledge, connecting coursework to the actual industry. The workload is heavy—long TB assignments each week, plus an engagement post and 1k-word reading reflection. oh and the final marketing plan worth 27% of ur grade so START EARLY DONT JUST SIT THERE N WAIT! BE SURE TO ANSWER QUESTIONS IN CLASS TO MAKE HIS DAY!
Jasso is a tough professor. The content/material isn't hard, he just assigns so much it's easy to get overwhelmed. TA's never give you full credit for any of the work you complete and there's a big marketing plan due at the end of the quarter. Do not wait till last minute to complete this.
He gives so much assignments about 6-8 a week. He can call on you to ask you a random question and asks you to open the camera. You have to read a book and give a summery about it. 2 writing exams and there is about 20-25 pages of marketing plan at the end of the term with is worth 30% of your grades. He gives Sunday posts which is crazy!
I was scared to take his class because of reviews and things I've heard about him. However, after taking this class, I can honestly say he is one of the best professors I've had at UCR. He assigns 2-3 homework assignments every week, 2 midterms each worth 15%, and a 12-15 page policy paper. They're not that bad if you manage your time well.
I enjoyed professor Jasso throughout winter 2025.
Two essay based midterms (not bad), one individual project (15-20pg), MULTIPLE weekly assignments, quick group presentations every discussion, class discussion posts (attendance). It's easy to become overwhelmed with the amount of hw but stay on top of it. He is honest about essay exam prompts. Also, you pay for hw about $80 :(
Had him for both 102&103 together. Lectures were great and he did taught a lot for both classes. But the papers were super redundant. combined there are around 5-6 papers a week w/ long tb assignments. Those papers got me lost in my own world writing about BMW 3 & 7 series in every one of them not knowing what I am talking about. Funny prof though.
YOU will read and do so much homework for this class it is not even funny. It's like an unmanageable amount of homework.
Wastes your time with a lot of rants and tangents that sometimes relate to the material and sometimes do not. Can be fun if you do not value your time and care about learning. He likes attention and even during intense writing exams will find a way to crack a joke. Vague course that grades more on formatting and appearance over content.
Spoiled nepotism baby made off mommy and daddies money and reputation. Calls of lecture last minute, instead assigns an off topic 2 hour movie with 1 hour of 10 long questions attached. 3 hours for an activity when I have more practical classes teaching actually useful skills, so I don't become you, sitting watching movies calling it marketing.
I can see both perspectives on Jasso where he can a great teacher that peaks class interest by conveying course concepts through engaging real world discussions, rather than tedious book reading. He clearly believes in competition and grit so assignments reflect that and serve a purpose. However, assignments can be redundant and not respect time.
Funny professor that keeps class entertaining and engaging with real world connections. I get inspired during lectures
lectures unhelpful, the enormous amounts of hw force you to learn the material on ur own anyway. I spent hours on connect assignments & reading reflections every week on useless, overly complicated articles. dumb grading policy (u never get 100%). it's obvious he places his class on a pedestal and expects everyone to do the same. at least he's nice
Not sure if it's Jasso or the TA's but there is no clarity on assignment and test criteria and then you get marked off for things never described or explicitly said. The TA's try to mark off points even if criteria is met, like they are told to bring down the average. Also clearly don't read your work and grade with shortcuts and ChatGPT.
Difficult class, too much homework, he also doesn't like Remi. In general there's too much work to do with little reward and the lectures are often unhelpful.
If you want more than just a grade out of your class you'll enjoy Dr. Jasso's classes; BUT be ready to spend a lot of time on hw. Lectures are great and engaging. Jasso's a funny guy and teaches using current real world examples. Guy has lots of real world experience with marketing .You will leave class inspired, but these aren't easy A courses
Prof Jasso is a great professor his workload is heavy but it teaches you discipline. this classes has been the easiest class ive taken at ucr dont hesitate to take him. most people mad here are lazy who dont like to turn things in at all or do any hw. ta Justin is awesome!
Awesome prof Jasso is great. his workload is crazy but it helps u learn the material. take the class dont be scare its not bad at all it has been the easiest class i have taken at UCR. my TA Justin was awesome too! dont listen to the bad revs those are the lazy ppl who expect minimal work and as long as u turn in everything u will succeed inclass
lots of writing but if writing is your forte you don't have much to worry about. I think people overexaggerated the difficulty of this class. It isn't hard, its just a lot of work. It is all very doable. just manage your time well and START THE FINAL PROJECT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Do not leave it until the last day. You will suffer greatly.
Piece of advice, do not take this class with hard classes. You'll be drained from the 4-6 weekly assignments. The marketing plan: start early. The class is doable, manage your time and sacrifice a little freedom. The exams are not hard, its just the main things you need to pay attention to or review. Professor Jasso has an interesting personality.
The course is tough but rewarding. Dr. J's lectures are engaging, if you actually show up. Funny how the “I didn't learn anything” crowd probably didn't attend or try. Shocker. Stay on top of the work, go to class, pay attention, and maybe, just maybe, you'll walk away with a good grade and a positive outcome. Check your effort first.
I'm not gonna lie the other rate my professor comments are genuinely misleading. Probably one of the easiest business upper divs. It's literally just papers that meet a required length and are graded easily.
every week u do 2 reflections 1 page single space etc. also tons of papers. he is known for being a hard grader and rarely giving As but honestly if u do the readings and pay attention u will be fine. I did every reading and took good notes and did well on exams and papers. Tbh I thought the readings were more helpful than lecture lol
Professor Jasso was one of the best professors I've had the pleasure of meeting. His lectures are always fun and very engaging. Yes, there are a lot of assignments but if you are able to manage your time, is very doable. Start working on your paper early! I think it's very unfair when people say that his class is the worst when it's not!
I don't understand why Jasso gets so much hate. Yeah there are a lot of assignments but they are not that difficult. He has a good sense of humor, which was nice to be around early in the mornings. I took two of his classes and had no problems with either, I also missed lots of lectues lol and i still got A's for both. He's chill
if you get the opportunity I highly recommend taking Business Law with Dr.Jasso. Don"t let the low rating trick you, this class was actually really insightful, enjoyable, and fairly easy. Each lecture I left with valuable info and he always keeps it real.
