He has a good sense of humor. He goes into depth about the material. Class goes by quick. Plus he's hot.

Professor Lake was probably my favorite professor. He treats us like the adults we are and pushes us to do better. I took Greek and Roman Humanities and on the first night of class, he assigned a paper. He was definitely challenging and I loved that. He is super hilarious in his own way, you just have to get used to it. Thank you Professor Lake! :)

By far the best professor I've had at Valencia. Prof. Lake is super down to earth and has a great sense of humor. His lectors are long, but well worth every second and incredibly interesting as well as hilarious. His class was the only 8:30am class I've been able to stay awake for! Such a cool guy with a really great personality, take him for sure.

Professor Lake is amazing. Very knowledgeable and gets his point across so well. Sometimes he can be a little too easy on students, but he definitely shows his appreciation for students who participate. He has helped me on the path I am currently taking and if I wasn't transferring schools, I would take all his classes.

He gives writing assignments in class but only one big paper. The rest are 4 or 5 sentences to write. He does not check attendance for the whole semester. Online midterm and finals. No need textbook, and poems and literatures are more interesting than Cunningham. Yes, he's hot but a family man.

He is absolutely hilarious. This class was utterly enjoyable and extremely insightful. He values everyone input and opinion. If you need to talk to him out side of class he is there for you to answer questions and to give guidance. I would take all his classes and I don't need to!

I enjoy myth, but this professor makes you look at it in different perspectives- lot of reading b4 class, it's all interesting, many names to remember, but notes can be used for tests/quizes; listen to what he wants exactly and you'll be golden, write down EVERYTHING he lectures about: 9/10 will come up later- does digress so watch out-funny class!

If you participate and take good notes in class (which isnt a problem because everything he talks about is fascinating) you will get an A. This professor is one word. Hilarious. Every class made me laugh, even if I was having a bad day. This class is no where near boring with this professor and I appreciate his passion for what he talks about. Do yourself a favor and take him,thank me later. I wasnt excited at all to take humanities however he made it so interesting for me that Im taking him next semester and I plan to take as many credits with him as possible! Pay CLOSE attention to what he says he somehow always ties his words with his lessons and its great!

Very funny. He tries to memorize everyone's name in the class, and pick on them. 2 exams online that are 2 attempts (it tells you the right answers at the end of the 1st). No textbook. You read lots of passages and stories online. He really wants participation more than anything, so always come with something to say and he'll like you.

2 exams: 1 midterm and a final. Some quizzes and a paper. Class is pretty easy but a lot of reading. Attendance is a grade. I personally don't like the 2 exams because they're really dense with info and long. Funny guy but I don't like how the class is set up.

TAKE HIM! He is an amazing professor, he is hilarious, he makes it his goal to learn each students name and picks on them. He has a great memory and makes the course personal for each student. If you make an effort to have a relationship with him he will help you with throughout your career at Valencia and beyond.

Surprised there aren't any reviews for his Latin class. I took a leap taking him because I saw such great reviews from his Humanities class and couldn't be more happy. Each week consists of a HW assignment (2-4 questions) and a quiz or two, quizzes and exams have unlimited time and two attempts. Answers are right there in the text if you read.

1 exercise, 1 quiz a week. Very easy. Professor responds in a timely manner. You should be able to get a A. I was scared at first but the class is easy.

Professor Lake is awesome. He's different from most professors in that he tries to get you to think about and question the world around you. His lectures are interesting and make you want to participate and ask questions. He does expect you to earn your grade though. Some homework, mostly reading and then you discuss in class.

Took 3 humanities courses with him, you have to do the reading and work, and youll get an A if you speak up in class. Hes very funny and deep, but the real key is to talk in class.

You have to do the work, but if you do you should get an A. He tries to make the class real to life, and it is a pretty funny class. Take him, it will be the best humanities class you can get.

The class is made by the professor, but you have to read and do a little participation - not too hard, and grading for written work is fair and clear. The reading is not easy, but you go over it in class.

Hi Dr Lake, You have to know who this is, you're on my top 2 of professors that I had. Your teachings has taught me so much in life and it was only a year after the course! I wanted to succeed so bad in your course that I literally had to contact you from a mental hospital and explain to my dad how to write you a message. Excellent professor.

I took Sean Lake's class for HUM-1020 and it was really great. He made sure I got all the material in his class. I made such a good connection with him that I gave him a gift. He live's in Tampa and has to come all the way to the East Campus just to teach. It's my chance to grade him, so I'd give him a 107% A+.

Lake can be a little unorganized with his dates and assignments but ask and he will explain what is required. Didn't use my textbook as he mainly linked readings in Canvas. Participation is a must so be sure to speak at least once per lecture. His lectures really pull you in if you listen so be mindful. Has a good sense of humor/is very funny :)

A good online class, especially if you are interested in the topic. The textbook is on pretty high level, but if you like the anceint world, you'll be interested. He had a baby this semester, so probably could have been more quick with email responses, but I liked the class and the videos help.

Great class for online, I take most of my classes online, and this is far above average as far as content. Pretty easy, just have to do all the reading, take a few quizzes, midterm, final, short answer questions.

I took the hybrid, which I recommend. Less meetings, but the online work is very doable. Not a heavy workload, but just about right. I would take again and recommend to friends because for once it is not a total waste of my time.

Read the texbook, take the open book quizzes, write 3 pages total for a paper. No surprises.

I liked the textbook. Not too much writing, and the quizzes are simple enough - but you have to do the reading. This is a good way to get the gordon rule requirement online.

For an online language course, this is great. No speaking, no writing, just reading and taking one or two quizzes a week. I took Spanish is high school, this was much easier.

this guy worked with me. I took him online and I had some family issues and he helped me pass. I thought I had to withdraw and he actually cared and let me get the work done and if it wasn't for him I would have to take this again. take this class, or you might regret it.

I don't know how you could do the work and get anything but an A. Not saying it's super easy, but I got no complaints and he is a funny, good guy.

Dr. Lake is a solid choice for Latin. The course material is more difficult than in Latin 1, but other than that the teaching style is the same. Recorded lectures, complete exercises and reading from the book each week, midterm, final. Great choice for a foreign language professor.

Outstanding online classes compared to most. I had some problems here and there this semeseter, and Lake got back to me and got me through the class. Take him.

Good for online Latin. The professor makes videos for each lesson. You don't just have to read the book. There is a video and you can call the professor, which I thought was extra nice. Some of my profs just do email, and most of my classes have no vidoes, just read the book and take a quiz. This is much better.

I had trouble with this at first, but Lakes was responsive and hleped me pass the first semester. I"ll take it again. He has video lessons which are good, but he actually spent time on the phone and zoom with me so it's a good language class.

If you don't have a passion for learning languages and are indifferent about which language to take, take Latin with Sean Lake. Trust me.

Took Latin I and now taking Latin II. This is my favorite professor online at Valencia by far. I never had a professor online take as much time to help me as Lakes did. Nice guy, good class.

Very good online course - but online courses are not my favorite. I took him because I had two friends who took his in person class and loved it. Clear schedule, clear grading, nice guy who responded to my emails and some confusion I had in the beginning.

My favorite class in the pandemic. Will take him again when we go back to face to face. Excellent content, good videos, easy quizzes if you watch the videos and read.

I failed this course the first time with another professor - this version was much better. And when I missed a fwe assignments, Lakes worked with me to amke it up because my mom was sick and I work two jobs.

Most caring professor I had, and I'm dual enrolled and so much better than teachers at my school. I see some people on here say no due dates - WATCH THE VIDEOS - all the dates are on the course schedule.

Yes, you have to read and do the work - but Lake gives it actual practical meaning. It's not just memorization. I never had a class that was so interesting with good discussions. Nice guy, pretty easy work if you actually do it each week, and some of the stuff got real deep.. Highly recommend. Got two of my friends to take him.

Outstanding language class. Take Latin - no speaking, no wirting, just have to read it. Lake has pretty good youtube videos to go along with the book. Best bet for language trust me.

Very interesting class with good video lectures. The written assignments were pretty easy, open book tests online - with two chances for the average score. How do you not do well on that? At the same time, I actually learned stuff b/c it was made to be interesting.

My BEST class at Valencia - and yes, I've been here for a few years taking one class per semester. Open book test based on taking notes - so you come to class and as he says you get the answer key. AND he worked with me when my mom was sick and I missed some classes. So seriously if you can't get an A in this class then YIKES.

It's not super easy - but it's not hard. It's what you expect from a real college class and yes there are joke classes out there, but why are you taking college classes if you just want to learn nothing? This guy is passionate and cares and the requirements are plain and simple enough. Take him and you'll do fine if you show up and take notes.

I like the way the class works: no group work, only online tests that are not hard if you come to class and take notes since they are open notebook. It helps to do all the reading, but I didn't do all of it every week. Lectures are usually funny which makes class go by faster.

You have a book and videos to watch. The videos help explain the course so you don't just have to read. Short papers, graded with clear rubric. I liked the topic before I took it, and I learned a lot more.

He's ok. Doesn't really respond to questions. Midterm and Final exams are tough but you get 2 attempts and the average is your grade. I thought the class would be easier and more enjoyable but it was ok sometimes a little bit of a pain. Took the class coz I found greek and roman interesting. Was too much and not really useful in real life.

online textbook is fine, written by professor. He had some typos and I called him and he fixed it - so that was good. Videos explain the text better, so you aren't stuck with just the book for an online class. Professor was helpful, and I liked the content.

Clear grading, pretty easy class, call the professor on his cell if you have a question. A lot of videos to watch, but you can skip some and get the drift.

Good class. You have to do some open book quizzes and midterm and final are open book too. They are still not too easy, so you have to do the work, but seriously If you can't hack the open book quizes, I don't know what to say. When I had issues, I called him and he was VERY FORGIVING AND UNDERSTANDING. So, a good choice cos he is flexible.

He's an excellent Professor and really knows about humanities; he taught me how to write constant and clear. He knows his material and I keep on applying the knowledge he taught me in class and then in real life.

I had to miss a few classes and Lakes worked with me to be fair about late assignment.s I always liked ancient stuff so maybe that is why I liked the course, but to me the professor is the key and this guy was more caring than other professors I had BY FAR. Just finished Intro to Humanities course and Sean was a funny and interesting guy. I'm returning to school after working for Disney, and going back is not easy but this class was what I wanted: it's book reading but Sean makes it apply to real life. Personable and passionate. Professor Lake is fine, but it's Greek, which is difficult. Greek and Roman humanities is a lot of reading, and the chapter quizzes don't make a lot of sense. 3 papers have to be written, and 2 exams, midterm and final. In Which are you allowed to retake if you do terribly and he averages the score.

His class is an absolute gem! Not only is he incredibly knowledgeable in his field, but he also has a knack for making complex concepts seem simple and accessible. His teaching style is engaging and interactive, which makes every lecture a joy to attend.

His class was honestly super chill, and the workload was not heavy at all. Just show up to class, participate, and do the book assignments, and it's an easy A. My only FYI is that his class ALWAYS finishes a little late, like 10 minutes, but other than that, he is great. If you miss class for any reason, talk to him to justify.

There's typically 1 or 2 quizzes a week, with 2 or 3 discussions in total, and 2 or 3 writing assignments (they're very small, only a couple paragraphs). Quizzes have limited attempts and are graded based on the average. Only bad thing is that all the teachings are video lectures, around 30 minutes.
