He is a good teacher. He was new in Fall 2015 and was trying to get it together. He is a smart guy and will help you if you need it.
Best astronomy teacher on campus. His grades are 3 exams and a final, and online homework checks. Exams are average but he curves his them a lot. Lectures tell you pretty much all you need to know. Would take again!
Dr. Lindsay is the freakin bomb!!! Definitely one of the best professors on campus. He very into astronomy and LOVES talking about it! If you show up for class, do the homework, and study for the exams you will receive an A in the class. Dr. Lindsay is a pretty funny dude and will always answer your questions and keep you intrigued during class!
He's, awesome. My favorite professor of my freshman year. A little boring but an easy class thats worth taking. TAKE HIM
I never realized how excited I could be about astronomy. In fact, I'm considering changing my major because of how inspired I was by this class. It was challenging, but in a good way. I hope I can take more classes with Professor Lindsay in the future. I thought this class was going to be super boring, but he is super fun and cute too!
awesome professor. easy going, and easy on the eyes.
I took him for 152 and came back to him for 151, definitely worth it. It is an easy natural science gen ed with a lab, and he is just a doll. You can go to his office hours and discuss any topic with him, from video games to astronomy to anything else. And he's a cutie too - like Leonard on big bang theory.
Dr. Lindsay is the best teacher I have had. He is very passionate about astronomy and it shows through his lectures. He gives you the chance to get 10 points extra credit on your final grade. His tests are not the easiest, but he gives you literally all of the study material you could ask for. Study and pay attention and you will do great.
I like Dr. Lindsay. He really tried to make Astronomy interesting. It was his first semester teaching at UT but he reached out to students and made an effort to help anyone who asked. He isn't a pushover so don't go asking for an easy A or something but know that if you need help he will definitely help you.
The course was pretty difficult in itself but Dr. Lindsay tried to make it was easy as possible. You should attend class and get the homework done, but you CAN make an A as long as you actually work for it. He's super nice and funny and is always there to help!
Dr. Lindsay is the man. If there was ever an example of a teacher who put students first it would be him. He always offers help and gives clear explanations to any question asked. He really knows his stuff and will give you all the tools you need to pass this class with an A.
Dr. Lindsay is the bomb. If you need a natural science gen ed, take his course. He gives extra credit for going to the planetarium sessions(2pt added to overall grade/each). There are five tests including final and only one is not easy. He doesn't take attendance, he tells you exactly what will be on the quizzes, tests, and drops lowest of both.
Attendance isn't mandatory, but he will give pop quizzes if attendance rate drops. Other than that, he tells you exactly what will be on the quizzes, and pulls the majority of his test questions from homeworks/study guides/quizzes. So, you've really already seen the test by the time it comes around. Tests can still be tough, though.
Great
Lectures are a bit long, but that is because of T/R class. He is extremely clear during his lectures. Attendance is not taken, however if attendance gets bad enough among the whole class, he will then start giving pop quizzes. He posts his lectures online if you don't go to class. Lenient on makeup tests, just email him and tell him u won't b there
Online homework every week or 2 but the answers are on quizlet so free A homework grade.I waited until he posted study guides for the test and I got B's on all of them. Easy class, he randomly gives extra credit and pop quizzes when attendance gets low so just go and sit in the back on your computer. He drops lowest quiz and exam(including final)
Class is only lectures. All work is done outside of class. Pretty easy, textbook reading is useful but not necessary, homework is about once a week and takes less than an hour. Tests are alright, be prepared to do a bit of studying for a B or higher. He posts useful study material on blackboard so thats useful. Overall a good professor.
Dr. Lindsay is phenomenal. Took him for both 151/153. 151 is super easy, the basics of our solar system. 153 is much more scientific & therefore a bit difficult. If you study you shouldnt have problems. 6 quizzes, 4 exams including final & 3 missed notecards opportunities for attendance. Lowest quiz & exam grades dropped. He's very helpful & nice!
Really a funny teacher in general, makes the class go by quickly.
Lindsay is a really funny prof who loves astronomy. However most of the class is there for a gen ed requirement so they are just not into it. The material is hard to wrap your head around and Lindsay does a fair job explaining it but you can't zone out or you're screwed. Also do the outside homework becuase its like 50% of tests and quizzes
He offers up to seven extra credit points onto you final grade. All you have to do is go to observations and write a one page summary! Also he drops both your lowest quiz and exam score, including the final. So if you like your grade you don't have to take the final! He gives great lectures!
I'm a Special Ed. major and for some reason had to take Astronomy 151, but Dr. Lindsay is seriously so helpful and works so hard for you. He puts up numerous test and quiz preps with questions just like the ones that are on the test, and tells you exactly what you need to know. Highly recommend taking him if you need a class like this.
I loved Dr. Lindsay he is so passionate about his job. He gave hints for all quizzes and tests and he drops one test and one quiz grade (meaning you can skip a test). There were a total of 7 extra credit points that you could add on to your final grade and probably 30 opportunities to attain these points. A 90A no A minuses are given.
Sean Lindsay is clearly very interested in his work. He shines a love for astronomy through his work. Unfortunately that doesn't necessarily make the class interesting if you don't like astronomy very much. Nonetheless he is a very enjoyable professor and is not by any means unfair. Show up to class, pay attention, and you'll do fine.
Awesome guy! He makes learning about Astronomy really fun and interesting. He lets you drop three attendance grades, one exam grade and one quiz grade. He also gives you the chance to improve your grade by a whole letter, and the extra credit is super easy. I would switch my major simply because of Lindsay.
Dr. Lindsay is the best professor I have ever had. My average test grade was about a 101% out of the 3 exams and will not have to take the final. He gives 7 credits for extra credit but I didn't need any of them for the A. Just show up, pay attention, look at class lectures, do the homework which takes 30 minutes a week, then pass! the class is fun
take his class!! homework is easy, so much extra credit, and Sean gives hints for quizzes and exams. you have to actually study but if you put in some effort you will get an A
Great professor! Very clear on his assignments and I always know what is due the next class. He also really knows his stuff and knows how to keep the students' attention.
If only UT hired more professors like him we would be a top 25 i bet, take the class with him bruh don't hesitate, hey he's willing to help, answers his emails despite the huge classes which still surprise me until today how he does it. But yo don't take the class expecting an A, work for it bruh. take the class bro i promise you'll have fun
he is the BEST professor I have ever had at UT hands down. He offers a LOT of extra credit, and always clearly labels what is due when, when theres EC, whats on the quizzes and tests, and always tells you ahead of time for quizzes! His tests are also pretty easy aslong as you attempt to study.
Dr. Lindsay is the best professor I've ever had. He is who inspired me to pursue Astronomy. You can tell he is passionate about astronomy and enjoys lectures and that makes it really easy for lectures to be fun. As long as you do your homework and go to Astronomy study sessions, you'll make an A.
One of the best professors. Very clear and understanding when teaching the material. Makes lectures interesting and will find examples to make sure you know the material. Offers soooo much extra credit and gives you so many hints for quizzes. Drops lowest quiz and test grades. If happy with grades, won't have to take final exam. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
Dr. Lindsay is incredibly passionate about astronomy, and it definitely shows in his lectures. As a result, his lectures are information-heavy, and you will have to go back over the lecture slides outside of class. He offers lots of extra credit and the final is optional. The textbook is critical and so is the online hw. Good luck!
This class sucks. Dr. Lindsay is fine, but his sense of humor is obnoxious and he never gets through the whole powerpoint for the class. It's actually beneficial to spend that class time studying the lecture slides yourself.. Tests are hard but just review and make sure you go to class when he is reviewing, and it should be a pretty easy B at least
Dr. Lindsay is extremely passionate with his classes. He goes in depth with his slides and tries to make it interesting and fun to be in the class and will help you with concepts after class if you need it. There are lots of extra credit opportunities and they're really easy. If you read the book and do the homework its an easy A.
I had a rough time at the beginning of this class, but Dr. Lindsay loves to help his students succeed. We met before and after each exam, which helped me get my grade up. He also gives lots of extra credit. Lectures can be dry but overall I recommend.
My absolute FAV professor thus far. So passionate about astronomy and really wants students to learn and not worry too much about grades - TONS of extra credit opportunities and drops lowest exam and quiz grade. You don't have to go to class bc posts all slides online, but he's so wonderful that you'll want to go anyway! 10/10 prof!!
Dr. Lindsay is one of my favorite professors ever! He loves what he does and makes lectures interesting. Quizzes are so easy and the tests are not bad at all- just study. If you do poorly in this class, it's because you just put no effort. He wants you to succeed, really cares about his students, and will remember you/ help you if you do well!!
All Professor Lindsay does is lecture and when he does lecture, he makes things so difficult to understand because he forgets hes trying to teach instead of talk about how cool things are. I will say he puts the PowerPoints online so I just taught myself. Not an easy class, but average.
Dr. Lindsay is the best! I recommend his class. He offers so much extra credit you can literally get bumped up a letter grade. Attendance is not mandatory but he does 10 pop notecard questions ( counts as attendance). He provides quiz hints and well structured study guides! I did horrible on all 2 test and still ended up with an A in this class.
Dr. Lindsay was the most helpful professor I had all year. He helped after class anytime I had questions and tried to make sure everyone understood if there was a question asked in class. He's kind of awkward but he makes lectures as interesting as he can, would definitely recommend him to anyone.
Lots of lectures, homework weekly but really helps grade wise and is pretty easy, gives extra credit, tests are pretty straight forward, showing up is really important and if you're there every day you get an extra 5 points at the end so thats great. You can tell he really loves his job and its adorable.
literally love this man, he's a fun teacher. he makes dad jokes and is pleasant to look at :) side note there is SOOOOOOOOOO much extra credit
Good guy, very intelligent and tries his hardest to make lectures interesting. He sometimes likes to steal extra lecture time at the end of class but its usually only a minute. You have the opportunity to get 7% added onto your final grade if you have perfect attendance and do a few extra credit observations. The exams can be difficult. Just study
Dr. Lindsay posts all of his lectures online after class ends, and the week before an exam or quiz he basically gives the test away through hints (which he also posts online). If you are good at studying then it is easy to just never go to class and show up for only tests. He offers so much extra credit that you have no excuse not to get an A.
Dr. Lindsay is a very funny guy who tries to lighten up a gen ed class and make it fun. He gives a ton of extra credit and you need to be there for 8/10 attendence checks for a 100. He gives test and quiz hints that way you can narrow down the material. Overall great teacher !!
He is a good professor and really likes teaching the subject but, I wouldnt recommend the class its tough and his homework is ridiculously hard and takes for ever to finish i never got a 100% on any homework thats how hard it is. Also has attendance checks but, he drops one of your lowest quizzes and tests I got a B but overall a tough class
Absolutely take this class if you can. There are plenty of extra credit opportunities presented throughout the semester and the lectures are very interesting.
Dr. Lindsay is one of the most passionate professors I've had. The class isn't the easiest, but with effort it'll be an A. His teaching style is really refreshing and the class is interesting.
Very knowledgeable about astronomy, and uses a lot of visual aides in his lectures
Dr. Lindsay is easily the best professor I have had. He really takes time to explain everything and it is obvious he loves what he is doing. His interest in the topic makes it more engaging and easier to listen to. Also gives tons of extra credit and it is very easy to end with an A if you pay attention in class and do the homework.
Dr. Lindsay is the best professor I've ever had, hands down! I knew this class was going to be incredibly hard but his teaching style made it tolerable.
Dr. Lindsay is ridiculously enthusiastic about what he does. It makes the class extremely enjoyable. Also, he was diligent in answering all of my emails. (His best time of contact seemed to be right before class.)
Dr. Lindsay is a really cool guy, who genuinely wants to help out his students. He gives you quiz and exam "must knows" which is basically the test. He also drops your lowest quiz and exam grade. This class is difficult, but if you just put a little bit of effort in the class you will get the grade you want.
Dr. Lindsay is a great professor, he works to make class as fun as it can be and he really helps you out by exam and quiz study guides. One of the nicest professors I have ever met.
The class consists of note card questions that counts as attendance and then the lecture. Mr. Lindsay's quizzes and exams are challenging, but he gives you hints for the quizzes and exams a week or two beforehand. These hints are practically a study guide. He can be mean if you leave after a quiz or note card question since he has taken points off.
Sean Lindsay has been one of my favorite professors, and he really makes the material interesting despite it being a difficult course. If you like general sciences, this a great one because it touches on a wide variety of scientific principles and fields. Tons of extra credit, but study for the tests and take lots of notes in class.
Brilliant lecture, sometimes hard to understand content but he is very available during office hours. There is plenty of extra credit available, and you get extra points for having perfect attendance.
I loved this class. Sean is a really good professor and if you listen in class and take notes you barely have to study and the material is super interesting. His tests really aren't hard if you just look over the notes.
Great teacher. He made his own materials this year, but provided many quiz and exam hints well before each quiz or test so I rarely felt unprepared. taking notes is key in this class. if you do not pay attention then you are not going to pass. He offers a lot of extra credit and has office hours.
Dr. Lindsay is a fantastic professor, he writes the quizzes and exams for the course but he also gives his students quiz hints and exam hints so they are all very easy, there's no reason why you shouldn't get an A on the exams and quizzes. He also gives homework, about one per week which he makes up as well. Btw, make sure to check the Unit slides.
He is a great prof. who loves what he teaches. H is a little late to put out homework and other assignments but if you just show up and study here and there you will be fine. He does not take daily attendance but he does 10 random checks throughout the semester, and part of your grade depends upon that.
Dr. Lindsay is great! He is great at teaching the material, and with the quiz hints/exam must knows, it makes the quizzes and tests a whole lot easier! If you make high enough on the first 3 exams, you don't have to take the final. He also offers a ton of extra credit. You should go to class since he does random attendance checks.
Sean is a great lecturer, and he tries his best to make the material interesting for students. However, his tests and quizzes are DIFFICULT, so study hard. He does offer extra credit opportunities throughout the semester so take advantage EARLY. Your attendance grade comes from 10 random checks, and he always thinks his students are cheating.
If you need to take a natural science class, just take his astronomy course! 1. Super passionate about the subject; 2. So skillful at teaching; 3 Tons of Extra Credits; 4. Final Exam is optional; 5. No textbooks but PDFs he made by himself; 6. Great personality; 7 Easily accessible outside class. However, DONT MISS A CLASS. Every lecture matters.
Dr. Lindsay cares a lot about what he is teaching & it shows through his lectures. He offers LOTS of extra credit & I passed the class without ever doing any. He sends out quiz hints/exam must knows before & they are extremely helpful & reflect what is asked on quiz/exams. If you do miss a class he uploads his slides so you can see what you missed!
Dr Lindsay will go down as one of my favorite professors of all time. He genuinely loves what he teaches and wants to see his students succeed. I took two of his classes in one year because I enjoyed his class so much. It is not an easy A but it is definitely one of the best natural sciences to take. 10/10 recommend!!!
Dr. Lindsay is my absolute favorite professor. He really cares about his students and what he teaches. His class isn't easy, but if you study you'll do great. He can also really connect with you if you just talk to him. He's honestly just a great guy to talk to about anything. I would totally take him again!
An easy class with lots of extra credit. Provided that you are willing to do most of what you are expected to (study, do homework, show up and pay attention), it's really not that difficult. If you struggle with those or lectures, seek something else. You don't even need the extra credit; I had 107 without it. A good choice for a natural science.
Literally my most favorite class and it all had to do with this professor. He made the class a fun learning environment, was excited about his job and honestly cares about students. As a senior, he had absolutely been the best professor I ever had and I honestly think about his class still to this day (3 years ago).
He is great
I took this course online. There were so many videos to watch but other than that the homework, quizzes, and exams were pretty basic if you watched the videos. Everything is either open-note or gives multiple attempts which was super nice.
Best professor I have ever had. I had to take Astronomy 152 and was worried because I'm not great at math & science. Dr. Lindsay was amazing! He actually made the material interesting and he is so kind and caring and wants to help! He gives study guides for all quizzes and exams, gives out his own textbook and releases weekly help videos! TAKE HIM
This class was great. He is beyond nice and helpful. He has his own personal textbook with everything you need. Exams and quizzes are easy because he gives you hints! The homework can be a bit long but they really help you with the exams. I highly recommend him! he is awesome and a good guy. You should definitely get an A if you take notes!
Dr. Lindsay was amazing. He teaches by his own textbook and knows what he's talking about. He was also very understanding when everything went online.
Professor Lindsay is a really great great instructor. I took this class because I like astronomy and want to learn more as well as fulfilling the requirements. Although the course content is a bit intensive, Dr. Lindsay makes it so easy. You have lots of extra credits opportunities. You read the notes & follow along with him, you get an A.
Nice guy, kind of dorky. The class itself isn't hard, but it is very work-heavy and all of it is open note. I'd still rather take any other science credit because of the need for a lab.
Dr. Lindsay was such an amazing professor, I took another astronomy course just to have him as my professor again! He loves to engage with students and is very responsive to emails and questions. He is someone that truly loves his job and has a passion for space!
He brought a genuine energy and excitement to all the lectures he gave made learning fun and interesting.
One of the best professors that I have had at UTK! He makes his lectures interesting by being genuinely interest in the material as well as providing good/interesting examples for tougher concepts. Dr. Lindsay is also very responsive to groupme messages which is nice. I highly recommend Dr. Lindsay!
Dr. Lindsay is an amazing professor. He is so educated and is passionate about what he is teaching. His tests and quizzes are a little tedious but they are all open note and book. His notes are extremely helpful and if you pay attention you will easily get A's on the tests and exams. Dr. Lindsay also gives great feedback and will always help you!
Great guy all around one of my favorite professors of all time.
Hands down the BEST professor I've had. The topics for this course are challenging but he makes sure you actually understand. There's no reason you shouldn't make a good grade as long as you do the work. Yes, there is quite a bit of notes and homework but you get 3 attempts on homework and 2 attempts on ALL quizzes and exams! Just take the notes!
BEST PROFESSOR HANDS DOWN! He is such a fun an amazing person to be around. This man could teach about how paint dries and I would be interested. Is very involved in the group me and replies insanely fast. takes the time to help each student and genuinely wants the best for them. The definition of loves to educate. Class material is a little tricky
Dudes the GOAT, straight up, take him
My best professor Ive had. Made me actually like astronomy and was the most accommodating and caring professor.
Professor Lindsay was honestly my favorite teacher. He is so understanding and I thoroughly enjoyed his lectures. He is always accessible if you have a question or a meme to share.
Dr. Sean Lindsay is arguably the best astronomy professor at UTK. His material can be tricky but if you apply yourself just a little bit you'll be ok. This man teaches the lectures and goes out of his way to create a shadow class online for people that don't show up. To me that means he cares a lot about his work and his students.
I love Dr Lindsay. He made astronomy easy to understand. No textbook, he wrote his own "Textbook Slides", and you can also review those instead of going to class (attendance optional). I would recommend going to class, though because his passion and care for his students is so great to watch. Would rec for ASTR 151 and 152 if you need a gen ed.
Dr. Lindsay is a fantastic professor. I enjoyed attending the lectures. He is clearly very intelligent and very passionate about Astronomy, and I would highly recommend him.
Dr. Lindsay is a fantastic instructor! He is so passionate about what he teaches but also deeply cares about his students. He wants everyone to learn and succeed. Since this was the honors class, the material is a bit harder than the intro level, but Dr. Lindsay is frequently accessible in office hours, email and Discord for help. HIGHLY recommend!
Dr. Lindsey is an enthusiastic astronomer. If you need help, he is easy to get in touch with and will almost always respond within a hour. His class is structured to learn not just get a good grade. He created a GroupMe to make sure everyone gets the help they need and to share fun autonomy facts. All in all, great guy with a great class.
most people who take this class are business majors looking for an easy A, Lindsay is super engaging and really cares about his students understanding what he teaches. All quizzes and tests are online and you get 2 tries on them. Attendance is apart of the grade but you can skip and still get by. would 100% recommend this class
Sean Lindsay's class was not interesting whatsoever. Don't get me wrong, he is a great professor who knows what he is talking about. His class is really easy and it is very clear on what makes up your grade. Attendance is not mandatory but if you struggle to pay attention I would go. Definitely would recommend if you need the credit hours.
Easy A, all homework and exams are online. In addition, he is actually a really nice guy if you go to the lectures.
such an easy class if you just do the work. everything is open note and you can tell Dr. Lindsay wants his students to understand the course material. he's always available for out of class help and communicates assignments super well. he offers tons of extra credit if you need it too
I love everything about this class. He is extremely well organized and every class was well put together. The class is super interesting, and he is very passionate about it. This is my favorite class, and I would take it even if I didn't need it for my tracking classes. Couldn't recommend this class any more.
Dr. Lindsey was an amazing professor, he has his own "textbook" for the class. Quizzes, exams, and homework are all open note and book, just pay attention in class and take notes. You can tell he genuinely cares about his students and is extremely passionate about his work, definitely take Dr. Lindsey if you have the chance!!
Dr. Lindsay's class is really not that bad if you take notes and pay attention! His teaching style is great and he does a great job displaying information in a way that makes it really easy to understand and fun! He posts his slideshows and also posts lecture videos that are very useful! If you are interested in astronomy at all TAKE THIS CLASS!
I took ASTR 151 as a freshman first semester and it was a great decision. He's a great guy and good professor overall. There is a lot of homework in his class, but you get multiple attempts for all of it which makes it really easy. Along with that all tests and quizzes were at home, online, and open note, with two attempts. Super easy course.
Dr. Lindsay is AMAZING! He cares so much about his students and makes his lectures as interesting as possible. Daniel was my lab TA and he was equally as wonderful. This was my first science class in many, many years and I never felt dumb asking a question or seeking help. Don't hesitate to take this class.
Dr. Lindsay was my favorite professor I have ever had. He is very into what he teaches and makes the lectures go by faster than most classes. There is a good amount of homework, but it is either unlimited attempts or multiple. On top of that you get to use your notes on all quizzes and exams.
I loved Dr. Lindsay. The subject was hard sometimes but he was pretty good at explaining it. One of the most passionate teachers I've had in a while.
HIGHLY recommended taking Dr. Lindsay's class. He's super understanding and makes everything very accessible. His "textbook" is a bunch of powerpoints he made and they're all on canvas. Attendance is from lecture questions in canvas but they're not based on accuracy. He's super passionate about astronomy and his class is really enjoyable and easy.
Literally the GOAT
Professor Lindsay was amazing! Going into the class I was super worried because it seemed like a lot of work. Lindsay makes it clear when each assignment is due and makes weekly reminders! His tests and quizzes are open note, and as long as you stay on top of the homework and engagement exercises you will be fine! He also provides extra credit
Email him if you miss an assignment. He is very forgiving.
Dr. Lindsay absolutely loves what he teaches, and it shows. His lectures are always fun and engaging simply because of the passion this man has for astronomy. He makes a GroupMe for his classes and is always willing to help students whenever he can. Homework is worth more of your grade than the tests. Take him and you will not regret it. The GOAT.
I would not join GroupMe for this class, it is very annoying, however, I have not attended a lecture since the first week and did the online participation, and have had no issues with the class content. He offers crazy amounts of extra credit and is very easy to access with questions, I just hate Astronomy so I did not utilize these things.
Doctor Sean Lindsay is the most passionate teacher you will ever have. He cares so much about the things he's teaching it makes you intrigued. Astronomy gets pretty difficult toward the end but he is always there to help. Tests are open note but that doesn't mean they are easy. Take good notes and reach out for help you'll get an A
Everything is open-note when online class and can go through class how u want. You can read slides or listen to lectures.
I LOVE DR. LINDSAY!!!! He is one of the sweetest and funniest guys ever. You can tell how much he cares about what he teaches the minute he starts talking. If you just take notes, you will do amazing in this class. One time I forgot to do an assignment, so I asked him if I could redo it and he allowed me to even though it was a 200-person class.
Dr. Lindsay is a great professor. He is really passionate about astronomy. The content of the class was a little difficult for me, but he gives feedback, extra resources, and has TA's as well. Homework and engagement exercises due every week, and quizzes and exams every few weeks, but everything is open note and you have multiple attempts.
Dr. Lindsay is truly a caring and great professor. Astronomy was REALLY hard for me but he offers so much extra credit and supplemental assignments, that if you put in effort you will pass. I would definitely recommend his class for anyone who is not super strong in science/math!!!
I LOVED Dr. Lindsay. He is so kind and truly cares about his job and his students. His lectures are fascinating and he provides a lot of extra credit to help you succeed! He is very helpful when you are struggling on a concept and always has a smile on his face.
ALL THE HOMIES LOVE DR. LINDSAY
Professor Lindsay is an amazing teacher and person. His lectures are very interesting, but some of the concepts he teaches can be challenging but he tries his best to make them easier and clearer.
Class was interesting and professor gives a lot of a grace period and is very respected.
Dr. Lindsay is the best professor I have ever had. This is a perfect freshman class to ease into college. There is a ridiculous amount of extra credit and all the material is accessible via Canvas at all times. If you put the slightest amount of effort into this class it is a layup A. Not to mention super interesting & Lindsay is very forgiving.
Loved Dr. Lindsay! Lots of homework but simple if you attend the lectures. His TAs hold study sessions before tests and quizzes, so I highly recommend going. Plus, you get extra credit for doing so!
Take this class. Dr. Lindsay is extremely passionate about teaching and is an incredible professor. He highlights points from his PowerPoint that will be on every exam and quiz. All exams and quizzes are open note and are taken outside of class. He offers lots of extra credit opportunities throughout the course and even has exam reviews.
Dr. Lindsay is one of the most qualified professors at UTK and is super passionate about his work. He is SO nice and loves to talk outside of class about the class material. I'm not even a science major and I would love to retake his class purely based on material and his personality. Overall, great professor and researcher.
He is so nice and understanding and is a pretty cool due. He is very interested in what he is teaching. However, I took this class as an online course and it was extremely difficult to keep up with (at least for me). The "classwork" is easy but the homework is extremely hard IMO. I would suggest taking the in-person class.
He offers helpful materials to learn. Attendance is mandatory but not entirely. Attending 75% of lectruews will get you a 100 in attendance. This means you can miss about 8-10 lectures without hurting your grade. Tests are long and not easy but if you study and pull up his notes you will be fine. He offers extra credit and help.
I took 152 online. The course covers A LOT of material compared to other prerequisites I've taken but it was a very fun class. There are lecture videos for every topic online, he uses his own "textbook" in the form of google slides and its free to use for the semester. Tests and quizzes are open note but beware I still had to study to be prepared.
Dr. Lindsay was my favorite professor in my entire time at UT - hands down. I continued going by his office to chat with him for several semesters after taking his class. He is an amazing professor who gives incredible lectures and assignments. His class might have had the only group project in my life that i actually looked forward to working on.
I LOVE DR. LINDSAY!!! I made this accout just to give him a fraction of the credit he deserves for being an AMAZING educator! He loves his class and he loves his students as if they were his own children. That being said, I have witnessed this man become radicalized by rampant AI cheating over the course of a single semester.
He's super cool and makes the class easier and interesting.
Dr. Lindsay is very passionate about the subject he teaches and his students. He did a great job explaining abstract concepts in detail. If you go to about 80% of the lectures you'll get a good grade. He is very understanding and lenient about assignments, it sucks that some people took advantage of that. Seems like a great guy
Dr. Lindsay is amazing! He actually cares to know your name and what you need help on/ how he can make things easier for you. There is some homework but not bad at all-- tests and exams are all open note and you can use all of his canvas material (he lays it all out on canvas on a huge doc of what you need to know for the upcoming exam). 10/10!
Dr. Lindsay cares about his students and listens to them as well. Attend his lectures and you will pass the class with flying colors. Also, if you rely on AI, do not take this course as he is very strict about it. Weekly homework assignments and 3 major exams. Plus, he offers several extra credit opportunities and 2nd attempts on quizzes and exams
Professor Lindsay is great - super engaging lectures and helpful materials. Attendance is mandatory but flexible. Tests are challenging, but with study tools like unstuck study and office hours, you can excel in this class.
PLEASE TAKE THIS CLASS!!! Dr. Lindsay was the pest teacher I have ever had, he truly just wants to see his students succeed. He is very passionate about astronomy and is just as knowledgeable about it. We would also have juggling lessons and competitions before class and he would create such great connections with students.
Dr. Lindsay gives fascinating lectures. He gives re-test opportunities, extra credit, and help outside the class. The tests and quizzes are open notes; he lets you use his lecture slides with all the information you need to do well on the exams. He does attendance quiestions in class but if you get a 70% he counts it as 100%.
Dr. Lindsay is such an amazing professor. You can tell he cares very much about both the material and his students, making sure everyone gets the chance to get an A. His lectures are entertaining and he is hilarious. There is lots of lecturing and hw, but he always ensures we are prepared for the next test. Also up to +7% through extra credit!
Dr Lindsay is the best prof at UT! Despite large lectures he makes you feel seen. His course load is moderate and he is accommodating. His exams offer extra credit, retakes and open note form your personal or his textbook slides. His lectures are entertaining and get you hooked. Hes an amazing person and professor. You wont regret taking his class!
I was a little nervous going into my next astronomy class, but he welcomed everyone with the warmest smile and made everyone feel welcome. He doesn't use a text book, but rather his own slides. However, he does make the text book slides available for those who want them. There were graded assignments every week and attendance audits as well. 10/10!
Dr. Lindsay is such a blessing to have as a professor. He loves what he does, and actually has fun during his lectures, making it easy to follow along and feel just as passionate about astronomy as he does! Flexible attendance, uses his own slides as a textbook, and encourages good study habits and will help you in any way he can. Would take again!
Dr. Lindsay is such an amazing professor!! He is clearly super passionate about astronomy and makes it super interesting. He also has a super flexible attendance policy and offers a ton of extra credit opportunities.
Dr. Lindsay is truly passionate about the content of this course. He is a very good teacher who is always accessible outside of class and genuinely cares about his students. He is respectable, funny, and engaging. Take his class if you can.
Best professor I've ever had, no contest.
Studying for the exams will make you want to bang your head against a wall. This class is not fun silly haha let's learn about the stars, it is hard for literally no reason. When am I ever going to need to know this information again? Honestly just kind of miserable and you will spend hours studying for a class that was supposed to be easy.
Such a kind, funny, and caring professor. You want Dr. Lindsay as your professor!
Dr. Lindsay is the best professor I have had this semester. Although I don't really know what is going on in the class, he makes it super entertaining and truly does care about his students. I have not met a person more passionate and sincere in my life. Gives a ton of extra credit opportunities as well. Try to take him if you can!
Amazing lectures! He really loves to teach and is very knowledgeable about the material. He is very caring and wants to get to know his students individually. Teaches juggling before class! Very approachable and understanding. Homework twice a week. Quizzes and exams are tough, but cheat sheets are allowed with 2 attempts, too.
Dr. Lindsay is so passionate and caring about his profession and the content. He has a group me worth joining for any questions- and he responds himself very quickly. He genuinely cares about your education.
the lectures and exams cover A LOT of material. he is a good teacher it is just so much to have to know. if you just need this class for a natural science credit, personally, i would have taken another class (just because there are easier classes out there)
Prof. Lindsay had been phenomenal through the entire semester. I had missed 5 lectures in a row, but because all of the material covered in class is also up as his "textbook slides," I was able to keep up and keep a good grade in the class. He gives plenty of extra credit opportunities and offers mini-juggling lessons at the beginning of classes!
Dr. Lindsay was a great choice for an ASTR professor. He is super knowledgeable about the topic, and genuinely wants to see all his students succeed. This class is VERY lecture heavy, so be prepared about that when going in. Exams are not challenging if you do the homework, and he allows note sheets.
Dr.Lindsay really cares about his students. He offers two-attempts on all quizzes/tests, unlimited attempts on weekly exercises, 3 attempts on homework, and has many extra credit opportunities. He is very passionate about Astronomy and it is really hard to do bad in his class.
I loved this class! Would 100% take a class with him again. He is very understanding and helpful in/out of class and willing to work with students should they have any issues.
Great guy, prepares you for all the tests.
