He's clear and straightforward, & gives extension on paper easily! Nice guy.
he's clear and straightforward.....good prof
Good prof. Good class. Recommended.
very enjoyable class, lots to do but a very understanding prof. i recommend him and his class any day.
Great and interesting lectures, Fabulous prof, will def keep your attention. the tests were challenging but if you pay attnetion in class(which is easy to od in his class) you'll be more than fine
Awesome professor, he keeps the class interesting, and makes the boring subject funny. I strongly recommend his class if you want a good grade, he gives previews for his upcoming tests too.
sucks his lectures are interesting. But it is so hard to get good grade!!!
Amazing prof in class. Awesome lectures, and funny. Tests are somewhat easy if you memorize everything. Not so great one on one though.
He is HILARIOUS...I'm never bored in class. Makes the most boring topic interesting, and has great stories. However, he has a reputation of being a really hard marker. Definitely take HR or any class with him. Awesome prof.
His lectures are good. Straight from the text. Not a very nice guy one-on-one. Kind of rude, and short with people.
Interesting guy, but EXTREMELY lazy.
keeps class interesting sometimes. Pretty easy class, since he gives very similar outlines of tests! Recommended!
Amazing Prof!! Makes this course kinda fun, very easy and clear marker... sure to get a good grade!! Everything is straight forward and layed out for you. Take him for every course he teaches. I LOVE YOU MaC!
Very nice guy, great teacher
Really good prof. He makes class fun and he's very interesting. His classes are not too hard and he gives out a great outline for the exams. Great Prof overall
Entertaining, to say the least. Enjoyed being in his class because of his teaching style. Really disappointed in material he 'tested' on. He focused on application of concepts during class, then tested us on memorizing exact definitions - lost mark if you missed words such as 'the' and 'a'. Think so
What I didn't like about Sean's grading scale was that over 50% of your mark comes from the project and final - which you'll never see again (thanks to Uni. regs.) Sean did have some quirky stories (NHL come back please!) and was overall a good prof - learned a lot and never got bored.
Memorize the definitions and memorize Colin Powell leadership pillars, they were on both tests. His lectures have nothing to do with final exam, just read the textbook, and think of personal experience where this happen. This prof is VERY dis-orginized.
Tests were based on memorizing exact definitions. He took forever to grade material and his feedback was terrible. He's also really arrogant.
Great prof. highly recommended. very clear. his lectures are easy to remember. gives you a test preview that is very similar to the actual test. take him for OT, OB and HR. straight forward guy, no games, no surprises. one of the best profs i've had
If your going to have Sean for a native studies class I will say the work was not hard but if he is good teaching business then maybe he should stick to that cause teaching native health is not his thing. Doesnt have the foggiest idea whats happening. Lost some of the class essays and then gave us a zero. Had to fight for marks. AVOID!!
I've had Sean twice now and he's still one of my favorite profs in Drake. Doesn't make you work too hard but you learn some stuff along the way. He's just a good guy, tells some funny stories, makes the class somewhat interesting and usually lets you leave early. Overall just a great average guy who I think anyone can get along with.
Easy class...Sean makes boring topic interesting! Homework is reasonable!
Don't worry about paying attention to his jokes the first time around because you're bound to hear them all again (sometimes in the same lecture). He comes off as a decent guy during class but he's actually very arrogant. I would only recommend him if your sole purpose is to get high grades. The only thing you'll learn here is how to memorize.
All you need to do in his class is memorize, his tests can be hard because he gives you lots to memorize. all questions are in the form of memorizing 6-12 descriptions of a certain topic. he is a nice guy and makes bad jokes which come off as funny he is not a boring professor
Like other raters, the memorization issue hit me too. He may give a ZERO for a definition with equivalent meaning that does not have the exact wording from the text. (I'm a little bitter) That caveat aside, his lectures are excellent. I GOTTA TELL YA (his catchphase) Sean's a good prof!
-- prof. macdonald is an intersting prof. i enjoyed going to his class. his lectures are always up in the air. u never knew what was coming. however, his lectures were interesting. he's not one to follow the text 'precisely'. so go to class! exams are fair. and yes, it requires memorizing definitions, but u have to knwo your stuff.
A bad professor, bad teaching skills. He is the most lazy guy I have met. In his class, you can learn nothing, he gave you useless speach. If you wanna lose money, lose time, please take his class.
Had him for OB and then took him for OT. The course content was the same, he used the same old stories, and even gave the same final paper. What a waste! Macdonald is a good lecturer, but a terrible prof.. Very arrogant and rude and never answers e-mails. If you must approach him, do so with caution as he won't change his tone from lecturing.
I agree, he is pretty arrogant and does not go out of his way to be helpful. Also, go to class and take good notes on his lectures because memorizing those is the key to acing his tests - but don't come in late to class or else he will stare you down in front of everyone...
Really arrogant and hipocritical.
He's an ok prof. 2 tests (2*20%), 1 paper (20%), participation (15%) and a final (25%). Easy to do well if you like definitions, short answers, and long answers. BTW, he'll give u a preview b4 each test and the actual tests will be exactly the same as the previews. BUT must attend class and take notes while he talks.
His classes have no structure. He seemed like a very lazy teacher, who was late handing things back, and didn't look like he prepared for classes. However, some people love him, guess his style of teaching works for some people, just not me.
did ob over the summer. prof seemed like a fun guy but tests are ridiculously long and require alot of memorization. he hates multiple choice questions but really for this kind of material they would make more sense.
ok professor. He is a little condisending and full of himself, but the class is alright. Test and exam preview are really helpful. The unstructured nature of the class can keep it interesting, but can also make it hard to make notes becuase you have no idea where he is going. Overall he gets the job done
Excellent professor! I highly recommend him for HR, OB, Compensation, Staffing, or anything else he is teaching!
THIS PROFESSOR IS ONE OF THE BEST PROFESSORS I'VE HAD SO FAR. HE WANTS YOU TO DO WELL AND MAKE LEARNING FUN. HIS TESTS ARE EASY! HE GIVES YOU AN OUTLINE AND IT IS EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE TESTED ON! WE HAD A FINAL PAPER WORTH 20% AND HE HE GAVE EXTENTIONS AND WOULD ALSO LOOK OVER THE DRAFT BEFORE YOU HANDED IT IN. NO OTHER PROF DOES THAT.
Not the most challenging prof, but you will LEARN something. Preparation for the exams is merely memorizing lists and lists of crap, but you will use the skills you learn in his beast-like long answer section. He has a terrible grasp of the English language. I find it insane for him to comment on students' grammar when he can barely spell his name
Good Prof, keeps your attention, super excited about what he teaches, however his tests are hard and very very very long.
Sean is the best prof that i have had at the U of M so far. He keeps class interesting, and you will learn a thing or two if you actually go to his classes.
Best Prof Ever!!!! Is not afraid to hand out A's and A+'s. He really cares!!!!

Really good prof. Knows what he is talking about. Doesn't over-complicate things like so many of the profs, and doesn't think he is the coolest thing ever, like so many of the profs.
He's my favorite prof so far!! I loved going to his classes and hearing all the stories he'd tell. He made the class so much fun and you actually learn a lot. Other GMGT 2080 profs are really boring, so I've heard. Take it with him if you can!!!!!!!
Excellent prof, best yet. Concepts are clear and understood, his style of teaching is excellent and i easily found myself paying attention in this class, even through some dry content. Recomend him to anyone!!
Great Prof. Keeps the lectures interesting and always drifts off and tells stories about his life. He gives test outlines before the test. STUDY THESE, exact same questions on, and he adds one more question from class, so see what is missing. If you go to class, you should be able to get an A. Would recommend to anyone.
Very good. Keeps things fun! Recommend to anyone!
Easy to do well... just study the test notes he gives and come to class. He plays HUGE favorites - absolutely loves 3-5 people in the class and calls on them for everything. He's got a really negative personality if you're not a "favorite" - I wouldn't recommend him as a prof. He reminds me of Michael Scott from The Office... and Bruce Willis
Great teacher, outright, clear, modest and fair. Great character.
Great guy! Entertaining keeps the class exciting. Tells a lot of stories similiar to grainger which makes it fun. Some of them are wuite funny too. STUDY THE TEST PREVIEW SHEETS!! Those are the exam questions word for word! Recommended for anyone
A great lecuture prof. You have to be quick with your notes but is always entertaining and funny. Tests are pretty easy, gives out a review which is 80% of the exam but very demanding when it comes to long answer questions. Be concise, number your points and answer in the order he asks the questions. Not very approachable outside of class.

Easy course especially when your given an outline of exams. He tries to be funny, I never thought he was.Outside of class,I wouldn't even try to talk to him.He made an empty promise of given us our marks back early when it's been much longer. As an HR guy he sure doesn't do HR for his students.Recommend only taking one class with him 4 the easy mark
Hands Down BEST PROF EVER..Case Closed
I was skeptical about taking a class w/ him because of the bad ratings he got. I loved him, I thought he was funny and made class interesting. The paper isn't explained well but if you ask for help, he will look at your paper before you hand it in to ensure you a good mark. I ended up getting an A and tell everyone I know to take a class w/ him.
Took two courses with him and would take another one. He is one of the BEST profs in Asper. His classes are very interactive and interesting. The exams aren't too difficult. HIGLY RECOMMENDED!
He was a good prof i think. he tried to be funny and i did laugh quite a few times, but what made him so good was that he gave you a really good idea what to study for and this is awesome b/c i don't get profs who try and trick you
Seany Mac! What can I say about Sean; he is passionate and it really shows that he loves his job. His class is interesting, and he holds your attention because at any point he can alter course material depending on world events & his mood. Exams are fair and his previews/hints in class are pretty much spot on. Great guy, great prof.
Great teacher, couldn't have had a better one for the course. Extremely energetic and makes jokes during class which keeps you interested.
Good prof. If you only study the list he gives you before midterm/final, you will do fine. But, if you really want to learn real management, go to class. His class is fun and interesting. Learned alot. A very useful class. Must attend. This prof if highly recommended.
His lectures are interesting and engaging (he always involves the class). Gives previews for the exams which help a lot. Focus VERY heavily on what he covers in class as opposed to the textbook. Do a good job on the essay for the course. He has a good sense of humour although at times his jokes border on innapropriate (for a classroom setting).
Above all else, Sean taught me that anything is possible if you work hard and smart enough for it!
A bouncing ball of energy. Totally worth taking the class just to see a prof so into his teaching. Loved him!
To my mother Rose, who taught me that anything was possible if you smart enough for it! .............. Different teaching style, but really nice guy
AWESOME PROF! will keep you laughing all class... and make sure you actually laugh. Easy course if you actually go.
Amazing Prof best I ever had in life time. He makes class feel more like a comdey show while teaching us valuable material. Hands down! Deserves to win best prof of the year and many more years to come. I dedicate the song best I ever had by Drake.
This was probably the slackest class ive taken, good for people with a tough course load. Just go to every class and remember all examples used in class and take notes on them. There is a 12 page paper, if you are not good at writing start practicing now because he does not grade well to poor writers.
Such a fantastic teacher!!! hilarious and teaches you valuable material while being interesting and engaged with students. Actually cares about you doing well and tells us that we are the "next world leaders" which is encourgaing to hear :)
Different teaching style, slack class.
Listen to his lectures and write down good notes. I didn't buy the textbook and I was fine. Excellent prof.
This guy knows how to teach. His lectures will keep you interested, and he mainly tests from his notes. Make sure to write down definitions and lists. The exams are fairly easy, but require a lot of writing. Study his exam prep sheets.
I love this guy. Funny, helpful, and SUPER crazy energetic. He'll go off-topic from time to time, but that's more than okay in a class as dull as organisational theory. At least he makes it come somewhat alive. Definitely recommended!
Sean is clear about what you need to know for test purposes. He makes classes interesting through humor and applies the teachings to current events. Less academic and more practical/functional. Two thumbs up!!
Very funny prof makes class enjoyable. Very specific on what he will test make sure you keep good notes.
Excellent Professor. Very personable, fair, and understanding.
I can't believe anyone has any smack to say about Sean MacDonald!!?!?! I had him for HRM Summer 2011 and he is the best prof I have had at U of M. He is intersting, helpful, knowledgable and a great professor! I loved his class and look forward to taking another class with him!
The Best Professor I've ever had, so far. He inspired me in pursuing Human Resources as my second major. A very energetic and humorous prof. exams are fare and loves JOB ANALYSIS ;)
He is a good prof within the lecture. But try to take 10 mins of his time after class you will never want to talk to the guy again. Try it! All he needs to fix is his 'after class attitude' by trying to be more helpful ie: When a student tries to ask a question DON'T say "Arrhg, I'm never going to get out of here!!" Lol, that's a quote!
Amazing Professor!! His super energetic attitude makes it easy to pay attention for the entire class. I never thought HR would be of any interest to me until I took this course. The only people who dislike him are soft skinned individuals who will fail in the real world. JOB ANALYSIS!!!!!
He was usually pretty funny had a few good stories alot about him at the Palamino club lol. Overall he is a decent prof and he really does care. As for the class itself its not to bad midterm, essay and final. Midterm is pretty easy, paper is somehwat difficult and final is somewhat difficult. But i believe you will get a B no matter what
Numerous personal stories with the occasional chapter title thrown in. Didn't expand on topics in depth in class and marking is unstructured.
Started out liking Sean - after several classes he changed that opinion. The childish stories about his weekend escapades got old and revealed the fact he has nothing to teach, just a random collection of activities loosely structured around a 'theme' of a class. Keep low expectations for takeaways and you wont be disappointed at the end.
Awesome prof. Liked the weekend stories to relate too, made the course easy and interesting to learn.
Awesome prof. Loved his stories, made the course way more easier. He's funny and easy to talk to. He did helped me a lot.
Good professor with a nice sense of humor. He's also very clear and really knows how to teach. Friendly if you see him during his office hours, not so much after class though.
Funny prof, always uses humour in his lectures. I enjoyed going to class and found the course really interesting and challenging. I didn't buy the textbook, and I ended up with a B+ so I don't suggest you buy it. Overall, great professor!
BY FAR THE BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD!! although he tends to put you on the spot it really helped me to think and speak on the spot. And it also made me review the class notes prior to each class just incase he asks me a question. Made my interest in HR sky rocket after his course! JOB ANALYSIS!
He is so busy teaching so many classes, it gets hard to find him with the time to clarify things. Waste so much time during class telling his silly jokes, and he has a slit personalty as well.
Amazing prof!! One of the best profs I've had in Asper!! His sense of humor would definitely hold your interest throughout the class. Exams are easy as long as you show up to class and actually listen to him! Highly recommended!!!!!!
Every Asper student needs to have him at least once. His stories almost never have anything to do with the class, but they are hilarious! He pushes people to think and he is really fair with marking.
One of the worst teachers at the U of M. If you must take his class, get the notes, write the exams but do not attend the class. His stories about his weekend are ridiculous. I don't pay to hear about his weekend!
Human resources with sean macdonald is like accounting with snoop dog. Its fun to listen for the first day and then you wonder why he's teaching your class.
Go out of your way to take any class with this magnificent man. He is the best Prof I've had at the university. 11/10
Some people like his humor, others don't, whatever. He's friendly, firm, and a fair marker. He makes precise this content that could be very vague - which makes it much easier to study for GMGT courses! Only complaint: he made the teams, you couldn't kick out free-riders, and there wasn't evaluation of team members' contribution, all get same mark.
Really enjoyed intro HR with Sean however staffing didn't seem to develop any new material. Overall an ok class
He is one of the best profs Asper has. His explanations are clear, his stories make the most dry topics interesting and he is great at getting everyone to participate which is imperative for a business student. If you take good notes you don't need the textbook.. All round awesome dude.. An easy A course.
Exams are really long so be prepared for a lot of writing. He explains some topics a little vague so the textbook comes in handy. Only complaint is that there wasn't enough material to last even during summer term. Went way too slow during some lectures. Course could've finished much faster. Other than that work hard and you'll get an A.
I have him this semester. Terrible prof. Don't take this class unless you have to.
I'm an exchange student and had a 4000 class with him and he demands something, but that is OK. He is an amazing professor! If you can get a class with him, DO IT!
Be prepared to memorize and to have a long project. His lectures are entertaining and if you pay attention to the academic material, he is real good at teaching! One of the best profs in Asper!
He is an amazing professor. His lecture styles are entertaining but at the same time facilitates learning and retention of key concepts of material covered. Plus he's pretty funny. However be prepared to write a lot on exams, and he expects a lot out of the final paper(but he will go over the paper before its due and give constructive criticism)
One of the best profs in asper by far... entertaining in class, class it never boring... dont need the textbook either if you attend class and take detailed lecture notes.. no surprises in this class
Interactive way of teaching that is able to make mediocre content actually interesting. His exams are very straightforward and fair, you just have to put in the time to memorize concepts. Write fast for the midterm, time is limited. Class is mandatory, exams mainly based on it. Textbook is slightly helpful for learning more details
Sean is very passionate about teaching and the content that he teaches. He is very relatable, funny and good at holding your attention. Go to every class and memorize your notes - you will get an A. You must take HR with Sean!
one of the best prof i have ever taken class with in university of manitoba, make sure you take HR 2440 with him
This course is easy and entertaining with this professor. He keeps you interested and likes participation throughout class. If you don't want to buy the txtbook you can easily get an A without it, just as long as you go to class and take notes because exams are based off class notes. Exams require a lot of writing but no challenging questions.
You can't ask for a better prof in Asper. Sean is hilarious and his classes are interesting. Text book isn't necessary; show up to class and take detailed notes and you'll be just fine. Make sure he doesn't catch you on your phone (he has no tolerance for it). Overall, great prof.
best prof i had so far in asper
His class is too hard, take HR with a different prof if it's not your major.
Great prof. One of the very few prof's who makes you want to come to class. Best prof I've had in asper so far.
horrible writting skills. Rude person ever. He can interrupted you 7 times when you ask him a question only with 5 words, which is amazing. I could not believe those kind of people can stay in asper.
He is really bad at teaching, and boring also he's exam is very hard.
He is a very arrogant teacher. He doesn't like answer any questions and get upset with than.
Super boring class, bad writting, no Patience and rude.
He doesn't help student when they have problems. He also doesn't show up during office hours.
He can use less than 10 mins to finish reading 8 stident's essays. so rush
Can not understand what he write on the draf paper. Can not get any help from him.
He is very arrogant, and impolite he doesn't even look at you when you are talking ,rude not given any useful imformation
This class is super hard, and he is very boring, Dont take it unless you have to
He's class is ok,but the exam he give is difficult I could not believe he covered chpater 14 in the final exam which is he just finished on the day before the exam.
Hard course,and I don't like his wirtting
Terrible teacher ever.
his feedback was terrible. He's also really arrogant.
He is super super boring
He is unable to teaching you something's useful and he is very lazy, he never put ppt on d2l
He told us the final mark will be post in 1 week, and will be really quick, but now is already 3 weeks, I don't know what he doing
AMAZING professor! He is the reason i am an HR major. One of the bet profs at Asper, and his stories are hilarious!
He is one of the best professor I have ever seen before. He told us a lot of valuable experience about your jobs. As for exams, it would be so easy if you just attend every class and take down all the notes.
Very arrogant and condescending. Teaches fairly easy class and gives you what you need to do well in his lectures if you can sit through him talking about himself Expects good quality writing for final paper
I took a class with him before and will take it again and again. He is my cup of coffee at 8:30 classes. Fare marker, knows what he is doing and what he wants, always there for you. Lectures are just fun, engaging, entertaining, funny and you learn a lot! Marvellous examples that I remember from class taken 3 years ago. One word: Recommended!
After a few weeks it is like you are going to the same old lame comedy act every week after hearing the same corny jokes and the format that he tells them in. I emailed him for help, but got nothing back and he does not use d2L at all. Lot of writing on the mid term and not a lot of time to complete it. He still does a good job don't get me wrong.
Liked his life stories, he has been through a lot yet manages to put a smile on his face. Makes a lot of jokes, and teaches HR concepts through them. May not be the best professor, but he's pretty darn good. Warning: You might be super bored on the first class, but it gets better.
Far by the best prof I've had so far. Very thorough with examples and clear with course concepts. Prepares you well for midterm and final by giving outline and potential questions. Gives no notes, need to read textbook and make own notes. Attendance mandatory, random group assignments.
took an 8:30 class with him. Trust me he is the reason I would wake up early ;) Not only is he a great view, he is a great teacher too! (only complaint was that we had to have a charity event, my group did a social... he said he would come and he didn't!!!!)
I don't know why anyone would give this prof a bad review. He's the best prof I've ever had in Asper and would have taken all my courses with him if possible. He makes class interesting and gives out exam previews so that you know what to study EXACTLY. You won't regret taking a course with him
A lot of writing on the midterm and exams, and not enough time. He gave us exam previews for the midterm and final but there were a lot of topics on the tests that were not on the previews : he's okay. Not the best, but not the worst.
He is a very good professor, but you have to work hard.
He was ok. I enjoyed his class. He told lots of stories too
Decent prof, he tells a lot of stories in class and does a decent job of explaining the materials. He requires a lot of participation in his classes, which is fine for Asper courses but he makes a point of calling out students. I don't feel his participation approach is effective and makes class awkward.
Great Prof, calls u up for questions unexpectedly in class, so always come prepared. He is nice and always ready to help students. I referred a friend to his class and she did great. Taking another with him this fall. i am very excited to be in his class again .
A prof that thinks very highly of his poor teaching abilities. His class consists of jotting down point form lists and being forced to participate in poorly executed class exercises. Tough grading on paper, tests are fair
Great prof! Super clear grading criteria and he tells you well in advance what to expect for exams and assignments. Go to class and you will be fine. He likes to see that you are able to apply his concepts instead of just restating them! Would take a class with him again, one of the better profs in Asper!
Great prof, very entertaining. One of the best profs in Asper. Very good lecturer, he's classes are worth attending. Tough grader, but fair.
attend classes and write what he gives as his notes. participate in class it helps. long term paper is tough but work hard on it. textbook helps you a lot. exams are short and long essays which are in class content
Never uses D2L and refuses to accept technology as if it will help him teach better. If you hand in a draft of your paper don't expect much valuable feedback in regards to how to do well on it. Took him almost three weeks to update the final marks.
Extremely good prof. Very passionate about what and who he teaches. Makes an effort to get to know you. Straight, to the point, and not afraid to call you out if you're being dumb, challenges you to stand up to your opinions. One of the best profs I've had. Study guides help a ton on tests. Tests are very fair.
First class I've taken that I have not fallen asleep in. This professor holds your interest throughout class. Lectures go by fairly quickly, and participation can be fun and is definitely helpful for your grade. I don't care about HR but enjoyed the class because of Sean. Funny guy, doesn't always consider what's appropriate to say to students.
Gives bad marks on the paper to prove a point. If you hand in a draft he will barely read it and the feedback he gives is useless.
Great prof
Sean is a good guy who knows how to make very dry content interesting with personal stories, class involvement, etc. However, there is very little to be marked on in this course. Just a midterm, paper, and final. For the exams, use his exam outline as a good guide. For the paper, start early and talk to him about it/get him to read it over.
Sean is one of the best professors I have had at Asper. He is very specific about what he wants and as long as you fulfill those requirements you will do very well. The exams are all written ( no multiple choice etc.) which allows you to get partial marks on questions you aren't sure about. I will take every class I can with him in the future!!
Great prof, very straight forward with what material will be tested on. Be prepared for lectures as MacDonald regularly calls on random students to participate in discussion. MacDonald keeps the lectures entertaining with the use of personal stories and humor.
If I were to have taken the class again I would have chosen a different prof. Not a great prof by any standards. The best example of this is his preferential treatment of students he likes more than others.
You can survive w/o the textbook bc he's very clear on what topics are eligible for testing (even gives possible exam questions). Exam's all writing but fair. You do have to go to lectures bc he doesn't post notes, but he makes them hilarious and easy to remember. Participation is 10% but attendance counts partially. Opportunity for bonus 2%.
Best prof to take HR with if you don't want to be falling asleep. He stresses everything that is important and will most likely be on the exam. You have to attend class and participate and if you do, there's no need buying the textbook! Don't take HR with anyone else even though the paper is tough.
probably my best prof at the u of m. clear about what's going to be in the finals and grades veery fairly. one advice: start your term paper early ad let him review it if possible more than once cos he's very specific about what he wants. I'd take all my classes with him. extremely funny too.
Managed to make Organizational Theory not terrible. Spends a lot of time telling stories that relate to the content and explain the information. He uses the textbook for most of the class and basically summarizes the chapters in lectures, pointing out things that he doesn't agree with. Gives outlines explaining almost everything on the exam. Solid.
He fits perfect for HR. Talks much about his previous experiences and give an even chance to speak about your ideas.
Attendance is a must! read his notes if you want good grades.
Great prof. his explanations are very clear. allows questions.
Professor Macdonald lectures are always interesting and he tells lots of personal stories. Tells you what will be on Midterm and Final, so it isn't too hard to perform well. Lets students hand in draft papers although his input is not very helpful in improving your paper.
Interesting lecturer, he's very intense, and even intimidating at times. Do not go on your phone or show up late, or prepared to be roasted in front of the entire class. Lots of work; had 10 tests, a midterm, a 60-second pitch, a whole entrepreneurial start-up plan and presentation (group project) and then, of course, a final. The course is curved.
I thought Sean was an okay prof. Be ready to be called out. I thought the best way to pass was to take good notes and follow up with skimming the book. He talks a lot so make sure just to write the important details. Exams are fair but very long, you have to write very fast. Make sure to particpate as it is 5%, you will later regret if you don't.
Be prepared to be called out in class! Don't show up late or use your phone. Interesting lectures, uses examples from his previous work experience. Long tests with lots of writing. Majority of tested material comes from what was discussed in the lectures, so take detailed notes. If you skip class regularly, don't take his class. Overall great prof
Represents everything Asper is trying to move away from. You will not learn anything in his classes as he spends the majority of lectures trying to relate bad sports analogies and stroking his ego. He seems bored with the actual course content. He is liked because courses are easy, but he has a forced grade distribution to meet his quotas. Avoid.
Very unorganized. Not only does he not post notes online, the only notes he provides in class is what he writes and his writing is very difficult to read. Likes to give exams that students will struggle to finish in-time. He makes a class that shouldnt be too hard very difficult. Real nice guy and funny during class, but he isnt an ideal prof
One of the best profs I've had. Given that the HR lecture was 3 hrs in the evening, he made it much more bearable with his funny stories. Doesn't post notes online but he's very clear about what he's going to be testing on. Paper is long but GET HIM TO REVIEW IT and he will give you valuable feedback! Textbook was only used to help write paper.
His classes were awesome and funny. As long as u pay full attention in class and write notes, u can get good grades ! Do not be late for class or being distracted by phone, he will be very angry and u are disrespecting him.
very good teacher. focuses on everyone individually. tries to get everyone to pass. very considerate of international students.
Really unorganized and simply not a good professor. Tries to challenge students but is not intelligent enough to do that.
Has a great sense of humour that keeps you engaged throughout the entire lecture, and doesn't take himself too seriously. His stories are great and relate to the subject material. Show up, participate, start your paper early and get him to look over it and DO THE BONUS MARKS HE OFFERS. Exams are pretty fair and he's VERY CLEAR about what to expect.
If you don't submit your term paper to him for feedback before it's due, you will be making a horrible decision. People do well on the exams, but the paper is where they mess up. His lectures are interesting and interactive, and useful because he goes over EVERYTHING you need to know for exams. Take detailed notes and work hard on your paper.
He is awful try to avoid him at all times
Would recommend taking HR with Sean. Very knowledgable and passionate about the subject. Learned more about the REAL business world in this course than all other GMGT courses combined. Sean clearly puts effort into his lectures which I appreciate.
Terrible. Rambles on and on for the entire lecture and doesn't write anything down. Must go to class though because he does give info about tests and assignments, but read textbook for all quizzes. Overall, he doesn't really teach you anything and assignments aren't explained or taught how to be done.
Really funny and best for this kind of subject
He didn't strike me as really friendly, but he's good at teaching the material. He tries to make the material applicable to real life and tries to keep the class engaged with humor, which is helpful for studying purposes
Funny guy, however gives no visuals in intro HR, solely talks and writes on the board so you have to essentially make your own notes. He is a tough grader on papers and exams so make sure you know your stuff. Attendance Is mandatory because he posts nothing on UM Learn and he uses examples from class directly on exams and finals.
Overall a great professor. Midterm is pretty easy and final is mostly like his review although he marks hard on the term papers. He uses a lot of examples in his teaching and is very passionate about HR. You must attend all classes because he doesn't post anything on UM learn so you have to take notes.
He is a great professor! He made the 8:30 am lecture really interesting by adding stories and humor. He is very clear on the grading criteria and what to expect. You can get a good grade if you take notes and attend classes.
Very easy class if you attend the lectures, and he makes the lecture very intresting
Super funny guy, makes coming to class worth it. Posts notes for GMGT 2070 so diligent note taking in class isn't mandatory.
Material is easy and prof is entertaining. MT, final and paper. Tons of memorization for the midterm and would have been for the final if it wasnt moved online. Only get your midterm back and majority of it will be marked by a student marker that sometimes marks against what he says. Doesnt post ANYTHING on UMLearn so be prepared to write notes.
Sean is fairly generous in marking, making a very easy course, however the profs in the sections have hard grade cutoffs. The class got 30/100 of our marks back to look at and he doesn't comment why you got marks off on a question just a score. I learned about nothing in this course just read the textbook giving me the information that is needed.
The class itself is fairly easy, and the outlines for the tests/exams that he gives out pretty much cover everything you need to know. The main problem is that he is disorganized, and does not give feedback on assignments. If you like sports you may find that you relate to his examples more than I did.
Anyone who says Sean is a bad prof has never actually had a bad prof. The guy might be a bit disorganized, but at the end of the day he's entertaining (makes the most dull subjects entertaining), knows what he's talking about, gives outlines and hints of what exactly will be on his tests/exams, and gives good feedback if you ask for it
You have to use the textbook to get a good grade. However, he is a very tough grader. Even though lectures are interesting and informative enough, he is very easily offended if lots of questions are asked about anything at all. He is not the best professor I have had so far at Asper. Doesn't provide the grade or feedback for the term paper too.
Made a really dry class genuinely enjoyable. His explanations and examples were very clear and helpful;I didn't use the textbook because his lectures covered everything we needed to know. Clearly knows his stuff and how to teach it in a way that makes it easy to understand. Tough grader despite being a fun guy.
Sean MacDonald is really hilarious. There's been multiple times where I just burst out laughing over what he said. Entertaining professor that makes class easier to get through. He's a bit disorganized but overall he gave me feedback on my draft paper and did his best considering it is online. He does expect you to have your camera on
Had Sean for Intro to HR, Business Communications and Staffing, and am a big fan of his. He makes the course concepts really interesting and concrete by relating them to real life situations. If you're interested in HR or Management I 100% recommend him. He makes you do a decent amount of work and isn't an easy marker, but he's very reasonable.
The professor made a dry course attendable. He passes you but it does not mean you will get a good grade. No idea how he graded. Will not recommend.
For GMGT 2070, I recommend taking Professor MacDonald. He has interesting stories that help you understand the material easier. The course can be dry at times, but Prof MacDonald is funny and makes classes go by quickly.
Sean turned what should've been a terrible class and made me look forward to it every week. Made things interesting and really cares about his students. He doesn't use lecture slides and tests mostly on his lectures so go to class.
If you enjoy listening rather than reading I would recommend taking HR with him. He explains concepts in a way that you will remember with examples and stories that allow you to pay attention easily. Midterm and Final were both short and long answers. If you are someone that comes to class late don't bother taking his class.
Sean is by far my favorite professor, I have taken him multiple times. You need to read the textbook and it is highly probable you will be called upon during class but it is fun! He makes thing entertaining but has high expectations from you... only way to succeed in his class is to take lots of notes, listen carefully and understand the concepts.
Prof is really entertaining and puts lots of energy in his lectures. For this class it was short and long answers midterm and final with a paper. Good thing is that he gives a test preview. Also he stated that he would never fail a student.
Regales the class with long personal stories. Wastes class time with impromptu discussions about topics no one in the class is prepared for. Opinionated yet doesn't seem very informed. Offers the worst feedback I have ever received on any assignments. Zero logic behind grading/marking.
Super boring prof, he goes on and on about pointless stories and never follows the actual lecture topics. His stories, tangents, and random thoughts are so stupid and come from a completely uneducated point of view. Highly recommend skipping class when there aren't in-class assignments and just following the textbook.
I don't think I learned one thing about human resources in this class. The professor only talks about himself and drones on about nothing. You don't have to show up to class. Midterms are writing heavy and there are a lot of papers. Good luck staying awake while listening to this guy...
I would recommend taking this course in the summer as it is boring. Sean is a great prof, yes classes can be a bit boring but he literally tells you what he would ask on the exam. If you go to class and take notes, you will get an easy A. Also, he tries his best to make the class a bit more interesting. I would def recommend taking it with Sean!
He requires you to have your camera on every class and be prepared to answer his random questions at any moment. Very often he gets distracted and starts telling irrelevant stories from his life. His explanations are okay, textbook has lots of info, but chapters are long. Exams are LA questions and hard because of that.
He often rambles about the subject but he made sure to engage with the students by making pop culture references and trying to make us laugh. He was very sweet and gave us all extensions if we needed it. He was very understanding. I am taking him again in the winter!
Definitely recommend him.
attend class and it should be an easy A.
Pretty funny guy, but not a good teacher. Expects you to learn things on your own. Doesn't give any feedback at all. Makes lots of sarcastic remarks about your mistakes. Not a good experience honestly.
Such a rude person
Aside from his bar stories, Sean has nothing much to offer. I do not understand how he grades the assignments or how he keeps track of participation, which is accounts to our grades. I honestly learned nothing from this course and still managed to get a B. In his other courses where I worked really hard I also got a B lol.
Overall a pretty solid professor, make sure to listen to his hints about what will be tested on the midterm and final exam and spend some time reading the material.
Pick him if you need to take GMGT 1010. He has detailed and organized course materials online, good lectures, and is approachable.
I personally find the class content boring but he is very good at keeping students engaged in the lecture and makes it easier to pay attention. He also allowed extensions on the final paper without too much of a reason which was much appreciated, i recommend taking this class with him.
great professor, engaged with students during class and actually kept my attention for an almost 3 hour long lecture which is impressive. would take his class again in a heartbeat, tough but fair marker, very good at explaining concepts, overall 10/10 would recommend
He spoke about about unscesary infomation for like 45 min of the lecture then he would quickly go through the slides. His feedback on long answer questions was are so vague you won't know what to correct even if you ask him for feedback
Super responsive prof. Took this class last year and he was really funny and super organized. The guy knows what he is talking about and gets the class engaged. Overall really great prof and class.
Dude was pretty nice, not a too hard course in my opinion, he tries to make class somewhat fun and could keep my attention for the full 75 minutes. Cool dude
He is very funny and a great grader when it comes to the essay part of any tests. He even let us submit our papers early for him to read and provide feedback! Classes were entertaining.
Great guy. Interesting lectures. Mostly goes over the slides + his opinions on the matter. Assignments are graded fairly. Wants name cards. Long-answer quizzes were open book. Questionable multiple choice questions but final was overall pretty decent. Pretty random class imo and I never knew what to study for so I just studied everything!
Funny and great guy, keeps class engaged in lectures even though attendance is not mandatory. Exams are long/short answer and there is a long paper the is required. I would recommend him as he is amazing and the class is pretty easy if you don't mind writing. His lectures are full of stories and funny examples which makes HR somewhat interesting!
Although I was able to achieve a B+ in Sean's course, he is certainly not fit to be a professor. I was initially weary about taking his class as I have heard negative thoughts from other students, and after completing this course, I can say their thoughts reflect him well. Funny guy, but I would advise against taking any classes with Sean.
Sean is mid
He is unforgiving. Although makes up for it with entertaining lectures and applications of real world experience. A professor who has actually stepped foot outside the institution and worked a real job. Exams are a time crunch, long answers required with little time allotment.
Professor MacDonald keeps the class engaging with his humor and pop culture references. The coursework is manageable, and he's understanding about extensions. unstuckstudy ai was a great study tool alongside the free textbook.
Sean is a good professor and overall a solid guy. His lectures might ramble a little bit but overall I find Sean does find a way to tie it into what he's actually discussing. Grading is fair in my opinion I wouldn't say he's generous nor is he harsh. Overall a good professor and very down to earth guy one of the better profs here at Asper.
Great prof, have taken him in HRIR2440 and GMGT2060, both are very easy if you can write a decent paper. He gives great feedback prior to the due date which is nice. His lectures are fairly entertaining despite dry course material. Exams are pretty easy, although if the midterm grade is super high the final may be harder. Overall I would recommend.
Sean is a good professor who keeps his lectures interesting by giving relatable stories and examples to relate to the course content. His grading was a little harder than other classes I've taken but it was not terrible. He cares about what he teaches as well keeping the lecture interesting throughout the semester.
i took him for 2060, and 2070. Id recommend, he puts effort in. Can be over the top, and go on tangents, but he tries to make the class interesting
He is a tough grader generally but he is very nice and caring. He will help you review your term paper before submitting. Write a decent paper with details as much as you can, prove your point and you should be fine
