Okay Class.....Lots of Early Music to 50s to Beatles to Psychadelic to breifly 80s and 90s....Class can seem hard if you do not study or go to class....otherwise with some effort anyone can make a B or above
He didn't care this semester if you came to class, the only assignments were little reviews out of his book that were due on Mondays. Other than that there is just a midterm, final, and research paper. It's pretty easy, but not as exciting as the other professor for this class
no point in going to class
the class is interesting, but the teacher puts a damper on that. he seems to have a cynical outlook to everything. overall, the reviews are easy points and so is the research paper. the midterm was a little more difficult. the paper and reviews are easy beacuse they are not graded by the teacher, but just by student teachers. overall fun class
Go to class and turn in the reviews which are due weekly and are so easy. Go to class and just sit there even if you are hungover, ****, or dead. He gave extra credit towards end of semester due to lack of attendence so if you go you will be rewarded. Paper's easy. Study for mid-term and final a little. All scantron finals.
He sort of skips around a bit in the lectures and I am not sure what was really going on half the time. My notes were horrendous because of this. as long as you study a little for the tests and do the reviews (which are a bit ridiculous) you'll do fine.
Good lecturer, especially since I have no interest in the subject. Makes for a really easy A considering he gives a syallabus at the begining of the semester and you know the first day everything that is required, which is not difficult at all. Stays on syallabus and on time.
joke class but he somehow makes people have to attend at least 1 of 3 classdays/week easy stuff, but he skips around a little AND HE WILL LOSE YOUR STUFF IF YOU TURN IT IN LATE HE LOST MY TERM PAPER!!! BE CAREFUL
Pretty good professor. Not the most stimulating professor, but he is EXTREMELY personable. Make an effort to discuss things with him after class and t will really solidify the lectures. This class is very easy.
Really easy and interesting class. Great for an elective. Lecture sometimes gets a little boring, but overall it was a very good class. Tests reminded me of something I took in elementary school. Very easy.
Easy A if you do the section reviews, and study for the midterm and final.
This class is very BORING!!!!! But it is easy! The test are somewhat easy.
Very easy class, good elective to take. I think the class spent too much time on the roots of rock, and a lot of the late stuff isn't in the class. If you like rock music, and you have an elective you haven't taken, take this class. McCollough is very easygoing and a pretty good, albeit sometimes boring, lecturer.
VERY EASY CLASS; one midterm and a final which take quite a bit of studying but other than that you just have random journals throughout the semester to check for attendance. You have a very short hw assignments due every Monday but it only takes 10-15mins. Some of the hw has extra credit. You can choose to take mc or essay style tests
He's a really nice and sometimes funny guy! His class, unfortunately, was somewhat boring, but I wouldn't let that distract you from taking his class. As long as you don't blow it off as being too easy, an A is no problem at all!
I made a 98.75/100 in this class with very little effort. You do have to go to class so you don't miss the unannounced but easy journal assignments, and you do need to memorize the listening for the test. He tells you exactly what songs will be on the test in the study guide. On assignments, almost any effort at all will get you a perfect score.
This class was sooo easy. Study the study guides for like an hour and you'll get an A on the tests. Go to class because the journals help. I suggest bringing your laptop to class. Keeps you entertained.
Good class to keep your GPA up, and it's an interesting class. Doesn't require much to make an A; tests are ridiculously easy. Shawn's a cool guy, and will spend time after class answering questions if you want to go further in depth with the material.
This dude's really cool, and kinda funny. He makes things very clear, like when he changes the due dates for things, he'll be sure to let you know. Take this class if you can, it's not that bad at all
This class is easy if you actually do work in it. Do not blow off the class because if you do than you might not do so well. The paper is easy and the two exams you take are easy as long as you study for them
Easy, interesting class! You have to do reading responses for homework that are due every Wednesday, but they're easy. There are three quizzes, one of which he drops, as well as two easy 500-700 word research papers. Go to class for the five random in-class journal writings. This class fulfills an A&S art/humanities gen. ed. requirement too!
His class was easy but it was absolutely horrible. There was nothing interesting in the class and it was a waste of my time. Do NOT take his class you will be bored out of your mind and regret wasting your hours. The only reason to take this class would be to boost your GPA.
The class is easy if you actually go. If not you will lose ten points from the in class assignments. The papers are easy. No tests. On the quizzes, if you know the listening examples you will do fine.
If you have taken his history of rock class then this is the same thing, but only a little different. The papers are short and easy and the HW is a joke.
Class was extremely easy as long as you did the weekly assignments and turned everything in on time. We did not have a textbook but his lecture was also very casual. Normally did not take notes.
Super easy, impossible not to get an a if you do the assigned work.
Super fun class. If you show up & do the easy assigned work its impossible to not get an A. I would recommend this class to anyone.
This class was pretty boring until we got the 70s. It was by far the easiest class I have ever taken. I didn't take a single note and got a 103% in the class. If you show up, do the worksheets and don't get an A, then you are retarded and should reconsider why you are even in college.
history of rock was the easiest class ever. just do the worksheets and study a little for the 2 quizzes and you'll get an A. he is a very smart and incredibly talented guy so i felt bad for skipping class so much but you don't have to attend the class except to turn in work every wed. very interesting subject matter tho!!
This is a phenomenal class. Sean is wicked intelligent, has great taste in music, and can play many instruments. He's a great professor, really. The class is wicked easy, and worth waking up at 9am for. Most homework is just reading from Rolling Stone mag and other articles. It's great!!
Do you worksheets on Wednesday's. Just show up, so you don't miss surprise journals. Don't study for the Quizzes. Get an A.
I took professor McCollough for history of rock the class was awesome and as long as you show up, take notes, and do the homework you'll get an A
This class was really great it was my favorite this semester. To get an A all you have do is weekly worksheets, there are also two easy quizzes with a listening part that aren't hard at all and a research paper that you get to pick the band you write about. There are also inclass journals that are really easy to get credit for if you go to class.
easy easy A. just go to class.. fall asleep.. wake up if there is a journal. do the weekly worksheets. super super easy!
Dude this was the easiest class I have ever taken. I came the last ten mins of class and just did the journals and ended up with a 102! I highly advise taking his class.
I got 60's and 70's on the quizzes, but I attended every class and didn't pay attention. I did the journals, and got A's on the papers, and I ended up with a 95 in the class. It's an easy class, definitely. Just don't wait until the last minute to go to the performance he makes you go to. Do it early or else you'll get stuck!
Easy!!! I slept the whole time and got an A. Four Tests, two papers, 10 journals, and a documentary reort. He lectures the whole time an it is boring, but that's why I slept. Easy A. All the athletes take this class
Easy class on 2 conditions. You do all of the work required, and you go to class. I went to just about every class, took notes on my comp while browsing the internet, and looked over the notes and listening examples right before the tests. Research papers take some thought, just do all the requirements he lists. tests get easier, easy A. no book!
EASY CLASS! Just take your computer when u go so you stalk people on facebook. Also it is recommended that u take HW from other classes or something else. I got an A.
To do well on the quizes you have to take good notes... it's not as easy as i thought it would be but it was not hard. A definite "A" if you try.
Easy A, and Sean is a really awesome guy! He really knows his stuff! Go to class because journals are important! Take decent notes and study for the quiz for an hour and you will make an A!
I actually wish I could take this class again. He gives extra credit and drops your lowest quiz grade. I got a 99 and didn't even take the last quiz.
The class is super easy, just go to class and get on facebook. As long as you are there for the journals and do the assignments you will get an A.
This class wasn't as easy as everyone says it is. I went in thinking it would be an easy A but his tests are hard and the study guide isn't helpful. Be wary about missing any class journals because it could highly effect your grade. His lectures are also really boring and difficult to take notes from.. He jumps from one subject to the next.
Class is easy! One thing, dont wait to argue about your grade cause he will be an ass about it. Blackboard messed up one of my grades and he didnt believe me when i came to him at the end of the semester about it. My fault but be warned.
This is the second time I have taken the guy, I have made an A both times with him. I thought he was a very fair grader, and the tests are easy if you study fir them. Just go to class because there are journals that count as a big part of your grade.
Takes attendance 10 times, a midterm, final, and research paper. He also gives study guides for both the midterm and final. Very nice and easy
Easy class...i used the least amount of effort and got a B so i know if I used a little more i wouldve gotten an A. Take him if you get a chance!
His class is extremely boring even though you would think it would be interesting. GO TO CLASS. He assigns journals on random days and missing too many will lower your grade significantly. Other than that, I barely studied for his tests and made As on both of them. Easy, but boring.
Even though it's music class and it can be very boring, he was overall really nice and helpful when you asked. Attendance isn't needed for the exams, except sometimes he'll take random journals and count them as little quizzes.
This is my second time taking him, he's an amazing teacher and all around guy! Really cool and understanding :) Tests are easy, just make sure you try to attend all the classes.
Very easy, laid-back class. If you go to class, it's a breeze. One day he just brought his banjo and played for us. Very knowledgabe. I want to take more of his classes. Cancels class before breaks. Always fun and enjoyable lessons. Definitely take his class!!!
Great teacher. You only have listening quizes on tests and they arent hard if you study. You have one research paper at the end but it is not hard. He is into his teaching and is a good professor and welcomes opposing views. Attendance journals are necessary but there are two extra ones in case you have to miss.
Good professor. This class is an easy A if you go to class. 3 tests, an easy paper, and journals.
Awesome class, very laid back, if you attend every class I can't see you not making an A
Very cool professor. If you attend class and take notes you will do very well. If you are into music you will enjoy his class even if it's not history of rock.
I believe he has caught on to how people take this class because they think it is easy. Class isn't mandatory, but you need notes for the test study guide. It is very hard to take notes because he completely verbal. Test are hard if you don't study enough. Tests have listening, multiple choice, and T/F. Not the easiest class anymore, but i'd take him
not the easiest class anymore, tests can be tricky if you don't go to class everyday and take notes
The class is an easy A, doesn't mean you can go thru tests w/o studying. But you can def start studying the night before and get a decent grade. GO TO CLASS. Journals help your grade a lot! There's even 2 freebie 4 XtraC & some are just attendance, they're not really graded, you get credit for doin them. Canceled class b4 break. NO FINAL & NO BOOK
Really enjoyable class. It's not as easy as everyone makes it out to be, simply because there aren't that many opportunities to better your grade. Going to class and doing the journals is key. I played on my laptop every lecture (didn't take notes) and made an A, but you've definitely got to study for the tests and do the journals.
Definitely not an easy class, his tests are very tricky and you have to study. I get most of his notes off of study blue, b/c it is hard to take notes as he rambles on. Class is boring and he shows movies, but not the whole movie, kinda leaves you hangin and He really doesn't discuss the movies at all.
Easy class, but you have to show up. Just go every day, bring your laptop and waste time. Also, you don't have to start studying for the tests until the night before/day of. There is a paper, but it's an easy 100 if you follow the requirements. Good class, definitely take if you need an Arts & Sciences credit.
This class is probably the easiest offered at UT besides walking. Go to class, take a nap or something, but be there to do random journal assignments such writing down your favorite song. He posts a study guide a week before the exam with everything you need to know. He gives 5 bonus points at the start of the semester and I finished with a 103.
Sean is an awesome teacher. He's really knowledgeable. His study guides aren't exactly what's going to be on the test, but it's still easy. I think he would be more comfortable in a smaller class setting and it would be easier to learn, but he still makes this class fun. He also gives a lot of attendance journals, easy A. Def take him.
Excellent teacher and very knowledgeable about the material. Make sure you take notes! An A+ is completely attainable, just pay attention.
Came to class and got all the journal entries for credit. Did not pay too much attention. Studied notes off Study Blue. Made 99 in class.
Easy and fun class. just go to class and listen and you will get an A. Gives you study guides that follows the exams exactly. I recommend the class if you are looking for a light course load.
Cool guy, definitely enjoys what he's teaching. Just go to class and you'll be fine.
SO BORING....I took this class thinking it would be an easy and fun A, but it is NOT! He just stands up at the front of the room and rambles, and his tests are really hard. Don't take this class...take something else!
Class is not too hard...but it is extremely boring...i was looking for an easy A and this class actually required a lot of studying for tests...i did end up making an A in the class...but the class was not as fun as everyone made it seem
Not interested in this music at all but class is super easy! dont miss a journal and you will be fine! just 3 tests and a paper. super easy! definitely take!!!
You don't have to go to every class but there are 12 journals for attendance which are 25-30% of grade so you have to make sure you don't skip on those days. Use studyblue to study for tests. I studied the night before and got a 96 in the class. One easy research paper. Its not demanding and its the best option for an arts and humanities.
When I think of rock I think Metallica/Shinedown/Guns&Roses/etc. His view seems to center on the Grateful Dead and Bob Dylan -esque bands. Class is more of a history of music (with emphasis on the kind he likes) than rock. Focuses way beyond just the roots and hits every genre barely touching rock at times. I hated this class but it was easy.
Sean seems like such a cool guy... he plays roack and roll and has a killer beard. If you have to deal with him personally though he is a pompous jerk. And he can't play the banjo well but he'll try to show off his skills in front of the class. Cool class, but the teacher has a big ego.
Easy easy class. Just don't miss the journals. Teacher can be kind of a prick at times and lecture is the most boring thing ever, but it is an easy A.
This professor is extremely disorganized! I ended up with a ton of work at the end of the semester. He's nice and very knowledgeable but not a very good teacher.
Enjoyable class, not very difficult. Professor is very down to earth and funny. Go to class, do the journals, and it will be a fairly easy A.
Easy class, easy teacher. You dont need to pay a lot of attention in class, but you do need to go to every class so that you do not miss any journals. Tests are easy if you use studyblue and look over the material for an hour or so. For the paper, as long as you meet the requirements he sets out, it will be a 25/25.
Easy A. Paper is the hardest thing but if you follow the guidelines you get full pts. Hes a great guy too. Very nice and helpful if you email him. Hes usually really busy though so it might take a little while to get a reply. Class is pretty interes if you like rock. Loved this class.
Super easy class. Go to class, take some notes, study the study guide DON'T MISS JOURNALS, & follow the easy guidelines for the paper & you'll get an A! Interesting enough class, but TAKE IT for gen ed. Really good class.
good teacher.class is pretty easy sometimes there are in class journals
I know everyone says to take this class, and it is a very easy A, but it is so boring and so hard to make yourself go, aside from the random journal grades. The tests are tricky I think, but if you study for a few hours you can do pretty well.
Don't get the textbook. I thought this class was very interesting for a gen. ed. My iTunes playlist has broadened a lot. This class is easy if you go to it and take notes. That's how you make an A. It's an enormous class, and his grading setup is as fair as possible for its size. Your grade will drop quickly if you skip a lot, and there's no bonus.
This class is a super easy A,b ut the only way to really get the information is to go, so you can't skip all the time. Make sure you get your journals done and do the paper in the correct format.
this teacher SAVED MY GRADE. literally without him i wouldn't have the hope scholarship. GO TO CLASS. one journal could literally mean a C to a B!
History rock is an easy gen ed credit and sean is a cool professor. Hes really laid back and knows its an easy class. Attendance isnt required but journals are given randomly. The class is easy and interesting enough and sean knows what hes talking about and has personal stories. Worth going to class most days, definitely worth taking!
I took this class during the summer and he was trying out new teaching material; that being said, I still ended up with an A in the class. However, there were a lot of papers (this took the place of the journals)
Literally never went to this class. If you do the readings, show up for the reviews, and write the papers you'll be fine. He doesn't do the journals anymore, which takes away incentive to go to class. I still anticipate getting an A. I also took a music appreciation class in high school that had the same material. Easy class, good gen ed.
No textbook. I did the bare minimal to get an A. Do the extra credit paper if you are worried. Meet your deadlines and word requirements on paper and you'll be great. Tests were not bad at all. He's really entertaining and you get out of class early alllll the time. He knows this class isn't your life.
Seriously the easiest class I've taken, and that includes high school. He knows his stuff and is entertaining, but class attendance isn't necessary unless you're a complete idiot. If you don't make an A, you don't have a future in college.
History of Rock was a good class. Learned quite a few things, and the only work are papers that his graders grade easily, and some tests that if you study for you will make good grades on.
Class attendance not mandatory, go the day before the test. Posts study guide a week before the test. Easy A. As long as you meet deadline and length requirements for paper you'll get full credit. Easy extra credit. Possible to get 75s on all tests and get an A in the class. Lets class out early often. Take McCollough
He's entertaining, knows a great deal about class content and beyond. Class attendance is relaxed but you do loose points after so many missed classes. I would definitely take a class taught by him again. He does a good job at making the content interesting and the mandatory field trips are fun too. TAKE HIS CLASSES.
I love this man. He inspired me to take up clawhammer banjo. Jammed with him almost everyday. He's laid back and is willing to help out anytime. Take his classes and get to know him. He's really cool. Also, check out his band, The Lonetones.
I was expecting this class to be super easy, but it's not. Extra credit saved me at the end. Sean is extremely rude and made me scared to even ask him questions. He acts like you're annoying his and is snappy as hell. I would recommend taking another class unless you love rock that much.
Pretty easy course. Follow the guidelines on papers, make sure you turn them in on time, and study for the exams and you'll do great! I highly recommend this course; it's really fun!
Sean is super cool. He knows a lot about music and you can tell he really loves it. I say if you are interested in music from the last century (any genre, not just rock) you will enjoy this class. The class is not hard, that being said, if you do not study, however, you could easily do badly in this class. Just do what you should and you'll be fine
Great teacher, and an awesome dude. Really loves music and he will turn you on to some new stuff. Class is simple. Write the easy formatted papers. Study your notes for the tests. Anyone that says this class was hard has to be terribly lazy and have no motivation whatsoever. Compared to most classes, this class is a vacation.
Sean is one of the best prof I've had so far. He's passion for what he talks about makes the entire course even that much more interesting. It was a very easy class (if you actually listened) and just overall very good. I'd definitely recommend taking it.
This class used to be very easy. He changed up the tests and they are much harder than past tests. BE PREPARED TO STUDY. This class is not a cake walk. If you study you will be fine but the tests do not guarantee an easy A.
GPA booster class. Come to class mildy prepared for the exams and you will pass the class. Extra credit is given at the end of the semester. As for the class, pretty interesting and it gave me a new prospective on Classical music.
Super easy class. All you have to do is just show up. You don' really have to take notes as long as you listen. He gives out the study guides that are LITERATELY THE TEST. Only difficult part of the tests are the listening examples. Out of 200 kids in a class, only 30 show up every day...
Sean is a super chill guy. However, his lectures are extremely boring. Go to class though and you'll be fine. Also a tip for the listening section of the test is to record on your phone the stuff he plays in class. The papers are a joke as well. Easy grade boring class.
This class was an easy A. I never went to class, just got the notes offline and got an A. He doesn't care if you come. Go the first few days/ review days though. As long as you do the papers correctly and turn them in on time you will get an A.
I had him for History of Rock. You do NOT need to purchase the textbook. Though some people say attendance is not mandatory, I kind of think it is, because he does not use power points. If you actually go to class, you have to put forth very little effort. Also, he's really chill, and I actually enjoyed his lectures!
This class is extremely boring but it is an easy A. Just do your work and study for the test and you will be fine. When it comes test time, make a google doc for the study guide. Make srue you go to class on the review days.
If you hate yourself, don't take this class. If your paper sounds like what the topic asked for: full credit (even if you BS it). Read the chapters, do online chapter reviews, and study all of the PEOPLE for the tests. Class Google Doc study guides are your BFF. I knew zero about rock before this class. Still easy.
His class was a very easy gen ed requirement, but you actually do have to study for the tests. I hardly went to class and I got over a 100 in the class. Just study for the tests a few days before and try to write well in the papers.
This class by far was the easiest most interesting class at all times. Sean is a great instructor that is welling to help you no matter what. I never missed a class because it was very interesting, easy A class for sure.
He gives you study guides which really help for MUCO 120 and 110. He was hard to follow during lecture jumping all over the place, but his grading is really fair. Several papers, 3 tests, and then an extra credit at the end! Do the extra credit! McCollough is great to respond to emails. Fair guy. Attendance not mandatory, but it does help to go
Sean was a great lecturer. The class was very easy, but the material was very interesting and fun to listen to (being history of rock). Loved learning about the Beatles and Pink Floyd, not to mention Elvis. You can get by without the book too
Great class! He is a really good professor and loves what he teaches. His lectures are very interesting but attendance is not mandatory to pass. The work load is super light so it's a great class to take if you have a heavy load in other classes.
For the most part, History of Rock was easy. There are 2 exams and 4 essays. The essays are extremely easy. The 2 exams were slightly difficult. The information was based on class attendance. Basically, go to class and listen. Take good notes. Other than that, the class was easy.
His slideshows he posts are useless for the test, his grader is also tries to find the smallest things to take points off. Hes a cool professor though.
Everyone said History of Rock was so easy, but his exams were harder than any math exam I've ever had. Anything that comes out of his mouth in lecture could be on the test. Papers are so easy but stressful bc of how pointless they are. I lucked out with an A on the last test & with the extra credit I'll get an A. Interesting class but made me :-(
4 easy essays, 2 tests. Tests be tricky and random. You have to go to class and take good notes on his lectures (or buy the book) to do well on the tests. The first half of the class was kind of boring, but it got more interesting as the class went on. This class requires little effort and is an easy A. I would recommend. Sean is a cool guy.
Sean is a pretty cool guy, but if you're going to take musicology, for the love of God do not take western culture music. You'll want to die just because of the content. The assignments and such are the same for each of his classes. Two tests (STUDY!), 4 papers (easy) and bonus for 5% of your grade. If you give any effort at all, you will get an A.
McCollough's HOR class isnt hard. If you go to class and take good notes, you'll be fine. His lectures can be hard to follow though. You will have four papers which are easy. 2 Test which are challenging if you don't study. For his he gives a study guide and if you make a google doc for the study you will be fine. Also gives an extra credit essay
Sooo easy. I can count on my hands how many times I actually went to the lecture. The material is straight forward. Most of the time, he'll tell you half of what's on the test if you attend the class right before the exam. He assigns 4 essays, but he gives you the exact outline for each of them. There is no reason why anyone should fail this class.
Taken Sean before for MUCO110, super easy class. Has a few assignments and two tests. Tests are difficult even if you go to class, but are passable. Assignments that are papers are instant A's, and he gives out good extra credit to your final grade. Take for an easy Gen-Ed.
Take this class. It is so easy its unreal. As long as you do the essays on time and study for the test you will get an A. You don't really have to go to class except for the day before the test, but it is a really interesting class. The professor is a really cool guy who knows what he is talking about. I would take it again if I could.
Super easy class. Only 4 assignments and 2 tests all semester. Most people didn't come to class, but I did because I had nothing better to do. I didn't pay all that much attention to the lectures, but still got an A on both tests and all 4 (very short) essays. Clear instructions for essays, lots of history that is easily accessible in the text.
Sean is a great professor. I took his History of Appalachian Music class and it was a really great class. No tests, hardly any homework, and really fun field trips. Yes you heard it right, ZERO TESTS. Very clear on what you need to read for class, and they are really easy and fun reads. Take this class and you will get an A
History of Rock is an interesting class, but also comes across as being an Easy-A. I would definitely advise you to go to lectures and take notes (I did not and had to study my butt off for the tests in order to do well). Take notes and you will be fine! The class is purely memorization.
4 short papers, a midterm, and a final. Go to class and you'll do better on the tests. Don't take this thinking it's an easy A, because you do have to try. It's an interesting class, and I really enjoyed it! I did have to study for the tests a lot though in order to get good grades! Offers extra credit at the end of the class if you write a song
Sean McCollough is an ok teacher. His tests are rigorous based on tiny facts and details that you would not remember or find relevant. His TA graders are tough as well, make sure to follow the exact guidelines. Overall, you can definitely get an A if you do well on the papers. Tests are only 20 points. This is the hardest easiest class you'll take.
If you go to class and actually pay attention you have a chance to do good on the tests. He does random clicker questions for attendance and gives extra credit through that so you kind of have to go to class. The tests are way harder than they should be since this is considered to be an easy class.
Although this class doesn't require continuous attendance, his tests are filled with details that are dispersed throughout random classes. Don't buy the book. Don't use the Google Doc to study, it will confuse you. He does clicker questions for attendance randomly so show up to class at least twice a week. Follow guidelines for his papers exactly.
4 short essays are an easy 100 if you follow EXACTLY what the instructions say. If you don't have enough words or format wrong he will deduct points. Participation is worth 20% of your grade. You don't have to listen but go. Essays and participation are an easy 60% of your grade that can be 100. Then you only need an 82.5 on your 2 exams. Nice guy.
There is a midterm and a final, and 4 short essays. This class was a breeze as long as you show up for your clicker points. Some topics were interesting too, but even if you aren't interested its an incredibly easy class. His jokes aren't funny but who cares, he seems like a nice guy too. Don't buy the textbook.
Go to class, to get all participation points possible. Do all the short papers and follow directions, and you'll get an easy 100. The tests seem pretty hard, but I did not pay attention in class at all (just went to get participation points), and just studied the night before, and did well enough to maintain my high grade (I think he curves tests).
Sean is an amazing professor. He is really passionate about the subject and keeps classes fun. A lot of people come to class and don't listen but if you do, you learn a lot of cool information (WHICH IS HELPFUL FOR TESTS). There are two tests, a midterm and final. He has the final before finals week so you're done with the class early!
I went to almost every class, took decent notes, studied for about an hour the night before the test, and easily made an A. The papers are short, only take a couple hours. The class was extrememy boring and I hated being in there cause it's a huge class and most students aren't into it, but i ended up learning a lot.
takes attendance and gives not the easiest tests, but I would recommend this class for a elective!
Sean is a very nice guy and enthusiastic about music. It's a shame is class is pretty boring. You can get an A by doing all the essays and studying for the tests. Go to class for clicker questions, they are worth 20% of your grade.
Just pay decent attention and the A is yours. One of the easiest gen eds out there I'm sure. I don't consider anything to be an Easy A in college but this is about as close as you'll get besides bowling or something. Entertaining lecturer, too. Attendance done on a random basis.
Look, this class is pretty boring. I found it really hard to stay awake. Sean doesn't seem like a bad person but this class just bored me, and I kind of like classical music. I expected a better and more entertaining class but this class is harder than it seems believe me.
There's 2 tests and 4 papers in this class, so in that aspect it's easy. But in my opinion, Sean is arrogant and annoying. This class could be so fun and interesting, but he ruins it with his poor choice of rock artists that he actually covers, and he talks forever without making his point. This class is easy, but he bothers me.
This class is easy! The way to pass is to show up to class everyday (he says he does clickers for attendance randomly, but it's basically everyday) Also, I never listened in class and read the chapters instead (they are short) and made an A on tests! Papers are EASY. You get an easy 10 out of 10 as long as you follow to example paper outline.
EASY A. This class is a good GPA booster and fits most Arts requirements. Show up to class, and find someone who has an old test and you are golden. Don't cheat, you shouldn't have to.
You can show up to lecture and simply listen to do well in the class. I never took notes and was completely fine. He does clicker question for attendance almost every day and that makes up 20% of your final grade. Midterm and a final (which you take before finals week). 4 essays which are an easy 100 if you follow the directions.
great class. 4 papers, very easy. 2 tests, study for them but they're not very hard.
4 essays and a midterm and the final. Essays are very easy as long as you follow instructions you should get 100s on them, the midterm and final are fairly difficult. The test questions can be difficult since they are detailed about a certain subject. Takes attendance through clicker points so go to class, it can affect your grade if you don't.
Go to class everyday because he will give clicker questions once a week that add up to be 20'ish points of your entire grade. 4 essays (each one is 10 points of final grade) that are very easy and he spells it out for you on how he wants it and what to write about. 2 tests that are 20 points each. Class is out of 100 points. Really Easy class.
This class was not as easy as expected, but it was still a particularly easy course. I walked in expecting I would not need to study at all and I was wrong. Just study for the quizzes, show up to class, and listen during lectures and this class is an easy A. He tells you exactly what he wants on the 4 essays, and the tests are not difficult.
Sean is wonderful. He genuinely loves his job and only has a midterm and final along with easy papers along the way. They are both pretty easy if you've been attending class and taking notes. However most people skip then fail. There is a ton of material but he doesn't expect you to know it in depth unless he talked about it in depth.
I took this class over the summer and it has been my easiest class at UT by far. He used my class as a guinea pig and we had 5 clicker quizzes and no exams, so he may start doing this instead of the midterm and final. He is very clear about how he wants the essays to be written and tells you exactly what you need to know for his quizzes.
This class was easy. He takes clicker attendance points on random days. You'll write four papers and have approximately six clicker quizzes. He is truly passionate about the subject matter and cares about the class. I would take him again if I could.
Book is pretty much useless. Just go to lecture, take notes and stay for the random attendance clicker and you'll get a decent grade. Attendance is 20%, quizzes are 40%, and essays are 40%. This is by far the easiest Gen Ed I've taken at UT.
Show up and pay attention and you'll get an A easily. He's really interested in the subject matter and makes class interesting.
Sean is the man, and his class is cake. He realizes it's a gen. ed and treats it as such, but in an interesting way. Class is enjoyable, and clicker quizzes are where the points are at. Basically go until you have the grade you want then you can not go anymore lol. However, the material is enjoyable so you may want to.
This dude Sean geeks me out everyday, he's definitely a weird dude but he is super clean. Class is easy and no final, this dude Sean will get you geeked not because he is trying to but because he's such a geeker.
Sean's a pretty cool guy, and the class is a breeze if you show up and pay attention. Class is pure lecture, but that's just the style of the class. 5 quizzes, one of which he drops, make up 40% of your grade. 4 500-word essays that are almost entirely completion make up another 40%, and the last 20% is 20 random days where he takes attendance.
Sean is the bomb. Had him for history of rock and would definitely take him again. He's really cool and his lecturers were pretty interesting, I actually liked coming to this class. Everything was done through clickers except for the few essays we had to write outside of class.
This class is very straightforward. Simply follow the directions for the essays and take notes during class for the quizzes. The quizzes can be difficult without studying but are very easy if you do.
Easy class if you just attend and study a little for the quizzes. He gives you everything you need to be successful, you just have to use it.
Sean was by far one of my favourite professors I've had yet! Come to class and pay attention and you'll do fine. He is super passionate about music, and makes the the class interesting. Go to class though, he takes attendance almost every day.
Known as one of the easiest classes at UTK. I rate him poorly because he is obsessed with race. I don't think we have had a single class where he doesn't proclaim black people invented every type of music ever made and white people stole all of it. He constantly refers to artists by their race even when it is not relevant.
I am so disappointed in this class. Mr. McCollough is rude and yells profanities during class at students, which is something I personally cannot stand. The most boring class I've taken at UT.
The course itself was easy. He was just a rude professor. He would always yell at students from across the lecture hall in an unprofessional manner. We had a textbook it was useful about 50% of the time for the quizzes.
Lectures are interesting. Attendance is required but it's a class you can skip every now and then to prioritize. 4 essays that are easy to ace. Exams are done with clickers and are difficult. Exam questions have answers that include things like "all of the above," "just a and c," "just a and b." Buy book and study for exams if you need an A.
Sean is a very good teacher. He understands that this is a general education course and that it is not meant to be too demanding. The class consists of 4 500-700 word essays, 5 quizzes worth 10 points and he drops the lowest, and 20 attendance points. It is very easy to make an A in this class if you attend class regularly & pay attention.
Sean is a good prof in that his class is both exciting and easy, no tests in my History of Rock class. We only had 4 quizzes and 4 short essays that were a few pages each. He does take attendance most days via clickers, but you can honestly go to lecture and not pay attention and do well in the class. Easy A
Easy class for an Arts and Humanities. Impossible to not pass, easy to get an A. 4 essays that require minimal effort. 5 quizzes, he drops lowest. You don't have to pay attention in class but he is interesting to listen to. Sit in balcony for quizzes. There is a minimal amount of extra credit usually the class before a quiz on the clicker.
Has to be the easiest Arts and Humanities course on campus. Essays are hardly even essays, they take less than an hour a piece, and so long as you follow the instructions you'll get an A. Just go to class, he takes a lot of clickers. Quizzes can be hard but he drops the lowest grade. Don't buy the textbook - you'll never use it.
OMG! Take this great guy! He gives five quizzes and drops your lowest grade. Three papers & no exams/final. Extra credit opportunities. Attendance mandatory and tracked by clickers. Go to class and work on other homework. Must attend a classical music concert and write a report (super easy). EASIEST A IN COLLEGE. Lectures are sometimes interesting.
Excellent teacher! His classes (majority) are very interesting. You MUST be in class because attendance is taken with clickers at random and each day is worth 1 point on your final grade. He gives you chances to earn extra credit on attendance days and during quizzes. 5 quizzes (exams) BUT you get to drop one, 4 essays (very easy), and attendance!
Sean is a great guy. He makes his lectures very interesting, but there's not really much to do in the class. A few quizzes, a couple essays, and attendance points basically make up your grade. The quizzes test the little, random things though, so pay attention and you'll do fine.
This is a great class. Just put a little bit of effort in and its any easy A
Sean is a nice guy. The tests seem fairly challenging, but I think they are curved because I always came out with an A or a B on them. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he does clickers. If anything, this class is very intriguing, but it is a lot of history before rock music. The papers are a breeze and are graded fairly easily by the TAs.
Sean was a great professor for History of Rock! Super interesting lectures. All you have to do to get an A is go to class regularly, pay attention, and complete the few assignments (5 quizzes, 4 essays, and attendance points). It is SUPER easy to do well if you just actually go to class (which many people don't, and that's why they have issues).
Great teacher and really enjoyed his lectures. Easy A on all the papers and if you take notes the quizzes are easy too. Plus, no final exam! Favorite class I've taken so far. If you're into rock definitely worth taking and if you're not then its a good GPA booster.
Great professor. Great class. Take it for a fun and interesting class. Take notes and pay attention and you should make an A.
I really enjoyed his class. I wish there were a 2nd part because I would def. take it. He is a really nice guy who you can tell is very passionate about music. You will NEED to take notes and actually listen to lectures and the music. If you do A no problem.
History of Rock with Professor McCollough was incredibly enjoyable and even more easy. The class is set up the way general electives should be: easy to pass and interesting.
Great teacher! makes class interesting and fun. 5 quizzes, one dropped. 4 essays but 500-700 words and they are fun and easy. 20 points for 20 clicker attendance taken on random days so you can skip but not too too much. I used the textbook to study for tests while using his powerpoints as an outline.
Took History of Rock with him and going into this class I thought it was going to be a fun class but I didnt really enjoy it. His TA's dont grade fair but if you have to take him its not too bad.
He is an awesome teacher and his class was very enjoyable. He would often bring in an instrument and sing to us just because he felt like it, which was a nice change from your typical class. The essays are insanely easy. You won't pass the quizzes if you don't study but they are really all memorization. Looked forward to his class every day.
Want an easy arts and humanities? Take Sean for History of Rock! So easy and actually very interesting. Lectures can be dry on some days but for the most part, class is very fun.
This was such an easy class. He takes clicker questions a lot so you should probably go to class, but I skipped a lot and still made an A. The quizzes are kind of hard if you don't pay attention in class, but the essays are the easiest things in the world. Super easy class.
This class is such a GPA booster. There's five quizzes and four short essays along with clicker questions almost every class. You would probably have to never show up to any of the classes to not pass this class. The lectures are actually quite enjoyable if you're interested in bands and the history of music. I would take him again.
Even though classical music isnt always the most interesting subject, Sean is an awesome professor and makes the content a lot less miserable. The papers are super easy and outlined very well. The quizzes can be a little hard, but if you take notes and study youll be fine.
really easy class. He takes a lot of clicker questions, so you should show up but I missed a lot and still ended with an A. As long as you do well on the 4 papers and most of the quizzes, you will be fine. he does a little extra credit too that can replace some of the days you miss.
Super easy with some interesting content too. 4 short essays (which take about 30 mins to an hour to do), & 5 quizzes (you can drop an essay/quiz). Quizzes aren't that hard but look over the material for a little bit prior to a quiz day. Attendance/quizzes are on clickers and are taken 20 times over the semester. Easy A if you do what you're asked.
Best class ever! Definitely take if you're looking for a GPA booster/fun elective. Interesting, entertaining lectures with cool facts and dope music, and completely clear grading criteria for assignments. You'd have to just never do assignments to fail.
He uses clickers as attendance so you gotta show up. He uses extra clicker points from the week as extra credit to your grade!! Couple of quizzes, couple of papers. SUPER EASY just show up and listen
Super nice guy, super easy class. Attendance isn't technically mandatory but you can show up and get those clicker points before using the rest of the class to study other things while paying just enough attention to pass the clicker quizzes. Grading rubric was clear and fair.
I went to every lecture (never skipped) to scan social media and do homework, only to look up during clicker questions for attendance & extra credit. I half-tried on all my essays & studied for the quizzes for 10 mins the morning of. Got a 99 in the class. Literally just show up! Easiest A of my life, made me appreciate classical music more!!!!
Sean!! Wonderful guy, very personable, not a push over. Loves his job and will make sure youre interested in what hes talking about. Has weekly quizzes, no exams. Extra credit comes from clicker questions, which are always multiple choice/ true false and very simple. Over all a really fun class, I would take over and over!
Sean loves his job and it shows. His class is not very hard, but you do have put in some work. There is a clicker every class and a big percentage of your grade is attendance. take notes in class and spend a little time looking over it before a quiz and you will be fine.
Sean is pretty quirky, which make the lectures somewhat entertaining. There are 13 quizzes (some of them were slightly difficult) and 4 easy essays. He doesn't let anyone use their phone as a clicker, so you will have to buy one ($30). Also, one of the essay prompts will require you to see a KSO performance, and you will have to purchase a ticket.
This class is perfect if youre wanting a good grade just for showing up. The canvas quizzes were difficult but wont bring your grade down if you do poorly. He gives lots of extra credit and its fairly easy as long as you semi pay attention. He is super understanding and very willing to work with you.
Really easy class! Show up, answer clicker questions, study just a bit before the open note quizzes, and make a spotify playlist before listening quizzes with the songs. Should be an easy A. Sean is great! He understands that it is a common A&H elective, but expects you to put forth some effort. Would take again -- planning on taking MUCO 120!
I've enjoyed the content of History of Rock so far, and I was previously planning on taking his Music of Appalachia class. However, I think that has changed. He knows his stuff, but he's super pretentious and is really eager to show off - talks down on the class constantly. It's an easy A, though, so go for it.
Sean is a pretty easy class. solid choice for an easy A+H or elective if you need it. i had him fall 19 sem and he was super chill but then he stopped letting us use electronics in class. now we aren't allowed to use computers/phones/turning point app for notes/participation. pretty easy class, just kinda boring
Easiest class I have ever taken at the university. Sean himself is annoying and is constantly on some type of rant but overall an interesting and easy class.
Despite Sean's struggle with our class in particular, I actually enjoyed the class a lot and learned so much in History of Rock. He can be somewhat of a know-it-all sometimes, but I think he means well and he definitely knows a lot about what he is teaching. Definitely take this class if you need an easy A for a gen. ed ... it's super interesting!
Easy A but honestly so boring. He changed his attendance policy so now instead of it being 20% attendance, the 20% is a midterm and a final. Still really easy but just a lot more annoying. He doesn't take attendance but still go so you can do alright on the quizzes. Picky about laptops but you can do other HW in there and be fine
Sean is a good guy and this class is well known for its easiness. attendance is not mandatory but for sure show up and take notes if you want to do well on the quizzes. the 4 papers are easy. quizzes can be tricky at sometimes but your three lowest quizzes get dropped anyways. minimal work and your grade will go up at the end of the semester!
Hes an alright professor but I didnt feel like I learned about rock in a history of rock class. The class is easy though and an easy A
This class is an easy A as long as you take notes. Attendance isn't mandatory but sometimes he'll give extra credit if you go. The lectures were interesting and he sometimes played music for us. There are 4 paper but they're pretty simple and graded based if you met the criteria. Overall, I would definitely take another class with Sean
I took him for both MUCO110 and MUCO120, very easy classes for general electives. I definitely recommend if you want an easy A. I don't enjoy how he gets political about music, but I guess you have to when you bring the history into it. Really enjoyed the musical part, but the racial comments were sort of too much.
Very easy arts and humanities elective. Sean made the class enjoyable and very manageable. Graded by weekly quizzes which I found difficult as well as four very easy papers. Plan to take him again for MUCO120.
Sean is awesome! His history of rock classes is my favorite class I have ever took at UT! I wish I could take it all over again, he is very passionate about what he teaches. Make sure you watch the lectures and take good notes for the unit quizzes and you will do great!
I loved this class. I enjoyed the class material and how the Canvas page was set up. I would definitely take this class again!
Super nice and super educated professor on the material
such a great professor. he really wants his students to succeed and makes it fairly easy to do so. such a fun and interesting class too!
Amazing professor. The class is easy, but even then he still makes it even better. Truly cares about his students, and loves what he does.
One of the easiest classes I've taken so far. Your week consists of watching 2-3 lecture videos and answering 3-5 questions during it which you see the answers of when you're done and can retake it. He also offers a ton of extra credit and there are 3 papers but they're all very short. The exams are easy as long as you half-watched the videos.
There wasn't much work for this class other than watching the lecture videos and answering a few questions during them. The tests were kind of difficult but being that there is so much extra credit there is no way you won't pass. I took this class to boost my GPA and it was super easy and actually fun at times.
some weeks he expects you to watch 5-6 lectures that are all an hour long. As if i have time to watch six hours worth of lectures for a class that isn't even my major. I have to decide which imbedded quizzes to do and which ones not to because i don't have the time.
He is nice for sure, but the class is by no means an easy A. The quizzes are beyond the material lectured on. He almost asks trick questions. It's really not a heavy work load, but I was very surprised that the class was not an easy A. I think if the class were in person it would actually be very entertaining and interesting.
I took him for an asynchronous history of rock class. If you're interested in rock, this would be the class for you. An easy A. Homework was watching lectures with quizzes embedded, and you could take it as many times as you needed. Three easy, personal papers. Unit quizzes that were relatively easy. Very interesting lectures. Little effort.
The entire class consists of hour long lectures with quizzes on canvas due every Friday. There are also a couple papers and quizzes every 2 weeks or so. Overall the class was easy except the chapter quizzes. Highly recommend taking this if you can get in it.
Not only a great teacher, but a great person as well. You can tell he's very passionate about the subject, and he explains everything in great detail. He lets you use your notes on quizzes, so if you take good notes you should get good grades. Loved him and his class a lot!
Sean is hysterical and very passionate about what he teaches. While the PowerPoints online are not going to save you, he posts his lectures online so attendance isn't absolutely necessary. That said, I would never want to miss a lecture: he's hilarious and interesting, and sometimes brings his guitar. Despite being difficult, quizzes are open-note.
He has lead my favorite lectures so far! He's very knowledgeable and talented, and it was fun to learn. Only a few quizzes, short essays, and discussions. Amazing recorded lectures too, if you miss class.
He's a great professor and this is a very easy class to pass, not to mention it's very enjoyable and interesting. The unit quizzes were difficult, but he gives you a great extra credit opportunity and the quizzes are open note, I didn't do well on any of them and still very easily got an A.
Not a lot of homework and very few quizzes. The quizzes can be a little tricky, but if you go to class and take good notes you'll do really well because they are open note. I think a lot of people miss questions on the quiz because they don't go to class. The answers a lot of times are said out loud in lecture instead of on the powerpoints.
Professor McCollough is a great professor. He makes it very easy to get a good grade in the class by making the quizzes online + open-note and offering tons of extra credit. You can skip half of the classes and end with a pretty easy A. Those who complain about the difficulty didn't attend a single lecture and don't use the resources on the quiz.
Sean is a great professor! Try not to skip class even though it can be tempting at times and take notes, they don't have to be special just make sure you write down keywords. Assignments are easy and quizzes are mostly where your grade comes from so try and do well on those (they're open note) and do the extra credit! I highly recommend this class!
Sean is a great professor, has pretty simple quizzes, and makes classical music interesting. Go to the lectures!! He explains everything you need to know very clearly, and is a really nice guy. I loved his class and wish I could take history of rock too! Definitely take him if you can.
Best professor I ever had. Super easy class, and very interesting. He even made a song during one class, and brings in instruments and plays them. The class is very easy you don't even need to go to class because you can get everything on Quizlet. Overall best class highly recommend you take it.
History of Rock is one of the best classes at UT. My only complaint is I wish he played more music at times. I actually learned quite a bit in this class and think about it whenever I hear certain bands or artists that Sean would talk about. Some people quit coming after the first 2 weeks but some of the stuff he says in lectures is on quizzes.
I like this class a lot however he does these in-class writing assignments and you won't get any warning about them whatsoever and you have to be in class for them. He won't do one for weeks on end and then all of the sudden have 2 that are back to back. He drops 2 of the in class writing assignment grades. His quizzes are hard.
He randomly gives participating assignments during weeks to make sure you guys attend the class. The quizzes are hard but doable, just pay attention to the lectures. He cares about his students and sometimes play piano during class. would take him again
Overall a smooth and easy class until it comes time for the quizzes which are online, which are very difficult. Sean does not require attendance everyday, but there are surprise in class writing assignments.
Sean is overall a good professor. You can definitely tell that he is very musically intelligent, but sometimes he goes off on tangents about other things and it's hard for him to get back on track. Attendance isn't mandatory but gives random writing assignments in class so just go to class. Quizzes are online but kinda hard so take notes.
Sean is a very nice, relatable professor. The one problem was the quizzes are extremely specific, often times not based on information in lectures. In class writing are 40% of your grade, so you need to show up. The prompts are not hard but are timed and blocked, so you will miss it if you miss class.
Sean is very knowledgable and provides students with a clear grading criteria and set of assignments. If you are looking for an easy A for some gen ed, take this class.
This is a very easy class but the lextures get boring sometimes and he gets off topic. Attendence is not mandatory but he has in class writing assignments that cannot be made up and he does not say when they will be.
Attendence is not required however he has riting assignmenets that are only open in class and does not say when they are, however his lectures tend to get long and boring
Great professor, he is very interesting and engaging in the large lecture. There are random writing assignments throughout the semester so you have to attend class, and online open note quizzes from home. It's very easy overall if you attend class and listen
This professor is the most insecure professor I have ever had. He is difficult to communicate with and will not believe you for one second if you missed an assignment. In-class writing assignments are random, unclear, and given with almost no time left in class (40% of your grade). Good luck proving that you were in class if you miss an assignment.
This class is interesting to listen to with all of his perspectives. The in-class assignments are pop quiz style, so you need to show up, but you don't need to pay attention the whole time as he does a good job explaining what you need to do for the assignment. The tests are online taken at home.
A nice guy who clearly cares about the material. In all fairness, if you aren't a music major or have a music background you probably won't get this class- that doesn't mean it isn't extremely easy though. projects were not graded strictly and lots of easy extra credit opportunities given (5 points to your FINAL grade!!)
Sean is a super nice guy who really cares about rock music. It's like your talking to a dad in the best way possible. Only issue I have is that I felt like he focused to early on the roots of rock music which caused him to have to rush past a lot of interesting and more recent parts of rock and roll.
He will randomly do in class writing assignments to grade our attendance so I just always showed up and listened while doing other work. The lectures were interesting but he would often get on track and we were almost always behind so he would have to constantly push quizzes back which got frustrating.
He is super passionate about the class and the subjects that he teaches. Their is not too much work outside of class and occasionally short writing assignments in class.
This class was easy, with two major assignments and quizzes throughout the semester. Attendance matters because of random writing assignments, but they're simple, and you get two drops. Sean tends to get off track, causing us to fall behind, but he's interesting and plays music, which I enjoyed. Overall, it was a fun and easy class.

Great professor! Just don't be like me and attend his classes because he puts a lot of weight on his in-class writings. You can tell that the professor is very attached to his subject matter and he knows what hes talking about.
Sean cares about the subject matter and enjoys teaching it. He makes it super easy to do good in this class. Lectures are interesting. Attendance isn't mandatory, but there are unannounced in class writing assignments that are taken for grades. Quizzes are online and he gives you plenty of time to do them. Anything in lectures can be on the quiz.
I had so much fun and learned a lot in the class. Attendance is not mandatory, but if you are not familiar with the subject it will be hard to keep up and the in-class writing assignments are only able to be done in person. It is important to take notes on what Mr. McCollough is saying because there are usually not words on the slides.
Sean is clearly super passionate about music, but sometimes he forgets that most people taking his class aren't music majors. There are several in-class assignments throughout the semester which count for attendance and he only drops 2. His quizzes are really hard but other than that the class is an easy A. He is very nice and I enjoyed him
Sean is a nice guy. However, I did find this class pretty boring. I am not a music major, so some of the topics addressed got a bit confusing but it was easy for the most part. The quizzes are taken at home but they are pretty hard especially with their time limit. Attendance is not taken but there are in-class writing assignments.
I feel bad, because you can tell that he does really care, but his lectures were incredibly long and boring. He gives end of class writing assignments that he doesn't announce before to check attendance. He drops two of them, but if you miss 3, your grade takes a hit for sure. Very nice, but I wouldn't take him again.
LOVED THIS CLASS!!!
He's an okay guy but he cares WAY too much for an ultimately insignificant class. Insufferable late work policies and his deadlines can be at odd times. Will NOT cut you any slack regardless of your reasons. Work was easy for the most part but if you are ever inconvenienced by something out of your control you cannot rely on him at all.
He is a nice man but the material is so unclear. I'd advise others to take a different humanities class unless you are a really good auditory learner since the quizzes are more based on what he's teaching not the slides and its really hard. This class is NOT an easy A. This class is not a GPA booster.
The people on here who say that this class is not an easy A are not cut out for school. If you go to majority of classes and turn in your assignments on time this is the easiest semi intresting class UT offers. People complaining about assignment deadlines in an elective are not cut out for any real world scenario where there is no late creditl;)
He is a great professor and a cool dude. Fun and engaging course, you just listen to music and learn about the culture. I think these people giving low scores should not be in college if they think this class is difficult at all. If you literally just show up, you will get an A. 2 "major" projects and lots of extra credit offered.
He is a great guy with good things to say about music. He can be difficult with grading, there was a mistake with my grading that I could not help and he was slightly rude about it. If you go to class all the time you are good, but if you are sick/have an emergency he does not care too much.
Sean McCollough is the GOAT. I love learning about rock music, and he made it so easy. If you don't get an A in this class, no one can help you.
Dr. McCollough was very nice and passionate about music. I loved hearing his stories during lecture. I would definitely recommend MUCO120 with him - very easy and interesting!!
The class itself was super easy but Sean is not a nice guy. If you have something going on in your life, he does not care. He has no sympathy for what others are going through and says that it is your fault. He is also very passive aggressive so if you email him asking for any help he will probably be really rude and not helpful at all.
I loved learned about the rock music, but I just didn't love him teaching it. He often went off on tangents and didn't even finish the class material. I thought the quizzes he gave were stupid because it was never much time to actually listen to the songs provided. His class is easy, you just really need to pay attention to every detail he says.
He is an interesting guy for sure, but he does love what he teaches so it helps. Attendance is far from mandatory, but there are random "in class writing assignments" that are quiz grades. When I say random, they are totally random just depends on his mood. Other than that, the class is super easy. Defiantly take this if ur looking to fill a credit
If you want an easy credit filler, take it. If you want to learn about music, TAKE IT. I LOVE music and his class was so fun to take. The only complaint is that he would go off on tangents and we never got to the HipHop portion of the class. Other then that, the quizzes are intimidating (LEARN THE SONGS AND TAKE NOTES) but they're not hard/opennote
Probably hardest class I've taken, maybe I'm just not auditory-inclined, but I really have struggled with this class. I emailed before about issues I was having and never really got any good advice for the class other than "Pay attention to the material". Doesn't seem like a bad guy, but this is a humanities credit, shouldn't be a hard class.
Great and pretty easy class all around. There are five quizzes and no final- beware though, these quizzes can be a bit difficult! Outside of that, it's just a couple discussion posts and in class writing assignments, which replace clickers for the class. Outside of that, Professor McCollough is super interesting and a fun lecturer- take this class!
Very good professor, there are only 5 quizzes with no final exam. Just show up to class because there are random assignments throughout the semester. I would take this class again if I could.
The class is very easy, you just have to make sure you show up because he will do random in class assignments and they are 35% of your grade. He rambles a lot and the quizzes seem loosely based on what he talks about in class. Don't bother emailing him if something comes up. He was zero help to me or my friends for a variety of different issues.
Easy class but without AI the quizzes are impossible lol
Super easy class, it just gets really boring in my opinion. No exams for this class. There are online quizzes from time to time, and there are in-class writing assignments, so make sure to attend class to complete them.
