He was a very difficult grader, but was very kind and funny. Great professor, would take again! But you do have to follow his criteria very closely but I did learn a ton and was helpful.
He was a really cool guy, seemed nice and friendly, but grades REALLY hard. Also, it felt like he kind of played favorites. Me and a friend did an assignment together, ya know reworded a few things but it was the same material, but my friend got about a 8-10% higher grade than myself. Keep in mind, my friend was liked by the professor, I was not.
Definitely take this professor if you have the chance. He is very kind and caring, and he is extraordinarily clear on his expectations for assignments.
If you have to take CWV at GCU, you need this professor. He makes things easy and his classes are very helpful. With the class there is a lot of reading, but even if you don't read, he breaks everything down for you to understand.
He is a super helpful person, and is willing to help you with any assignment or questions you might have. He really wants his students to be able to grasp the material before the test or paper. Allows us to work in groups for the final paper. Was an EXTREMELY easy grader.
Professor Sean McGever is an excellent teacher and I would definitely recommend his classes. There is a lot of reading necessary for passing this class, but Professor McGever goes over everything in class the next day, so there's no need to stress if there's material you don't entirely understand.
Such a great guy, he really cares about how you are doing in the class and personally. He is also very approachable. 10/10 recommend taking with him.
TAKE THIS TEACHER!! HE IS AMAZING! SO WILLING TO WORK WITH YOU AND REALLY CARES ABOUT WEATHER YOU PASS OR FAIL. 11/10 TEACHER.
Funny guy. Dr. McGever is one of the smartest people I've come in contact with, breaks down deep, theological concepts very nicely to chunks perfect for a 100-level course. He is very personable ( a little quirky) and at the end of the day just wants to get to know you and support you, sometimes I think he forgets he's teaching a class. Love it!
Absolutely love him! He knows his stuff. He cares about students and is a very optimistic person. He helps with seminars in class and truly wants students to succeed!
Professor McGever is honestly a great professor. He has so many life experiences and fun stories to share. I love hearing about all his stories and his perspectives. The class is difficult and does require a lot of reading and time and effort, but if you do the reading and go to class, you'll do great in the class.
Throughout this class, Dr. McGever made class interesting and fun. We had many group discussions which allowed us students to understand each assignment more. Each week, there are readings and notes required to prepare for the next class. Overall, I would definitely take this class again and recommend Dr. McGever to anyone.
He is an interesting person and professor. His class can be a bit lecture heavy and hard to pay attention to but he tries to make sure students understand the material. Splits up the reading well and gives good feedback on assignments. Overall a good class to take.
He is a super personable professor, so he usually spends like the first 20 minutes of class just rambling on and talking to students. He lectures over seminars in class so they really aren't HW like they are for other profs. The class has a lot of boring/old readings but that's not his fault. As long as you do the assignments you will be fine.
McGever is fantastic! He's so smart, but breaks down complex theological concepts really well so they are digestible. He deeply cares about his students and their lives. He's funny and lets people talk besides himself. He tries to get everyone in class involved without calling people out often. He has office hours that are flexible even as an adjun
The class is very reading heavy and some of the readings can be difficult to understand. However, he always breaks it down in class and outlines the important parts. Homework is pretty straightforward as well. Overall, he is super personable, caring, and fun - would definitely recommend taking him, even if you're not someone who is religious.
Attending class is mandatory for participation points. He is a fantastic professor and person. He prayers before your final (which is not hard) no midterm, which is great. Get ready to read, read, read! do not be afraid the homework is very easy along with the assignments. Do not be afraid to ask questions and get to know him!
Sean was an awesome and energetic teacher. You can tell that he really cares about the material that he is teaching and his students. I learned a lot! a lot! in his class and was challenged by the hefty reading. He is a tough grader but he is very specific about what he is expecting from each assignment, so make sure you follow his instructions!
Sean is very personable and wants to get to know his students. As a Christian class, he is respectful of everyone's ideas and wants people to ask and learn. Class has a lot of reading but it is used in ALL assignments so worth it.
Prof. McGever is AWESOME. He genuinely cares about his students and he makes time for them. He gives detailed feedback on every assignment and has given us grace in a very hard time academically and personally. Prof. He is a man after God's own heart. In the short time I have known him, he has gained my respect and trust. He is a great professor!
Sean is awesome! Every time I go to one of his classes, I feel like I leave learning or understanding so much better than I did before. He is extremely intelligent and a great communicator. His assignments are fairly easy, just follow the instructions and do your best. He isn't a super hard grader-- he cares more about the content. Take him!
Professor McGever was an AMAZING instructor! Especially for an honors class, I felt as though the material was in depth and thought provoking without being overbearing. He was extremely gracious on grading and would often go over the assignments at length in class to avoid confusion. I would gladly take Professor McGever again!
Dr. McGever is by far one of the best professors I have ever had while in college. He cares about his students and wants to see them succeed. His lectures are so intriguing and really make you think about life. He is also very intelligient and insightful.
A great professor definitely would take his classes again!
Dr McGever is a wonderful professor. In the class I took we read a lot of intense selections of early Church writers and some more modern ones. It can seem like a lot of work, but Dr. McGever always made sure we understood the topics. I can genuinely say the lectures were very helpful, and helped me to grow in my faith. I definitely recommend him!
This class is very lecture-heavy, but Dr. McGever is a wonderful, caring professor, so he makes learning fun. He is one of my favorite professors in college because he is very good at engaging students and he truly cares about every one of his students. I am hoping to take him again next year, if possible. Highly recommend him if you get a chance!
Professor McGever is an amazing professor. He understand that not all of us are theology majors and really work with us on that. Super understanding and works with his students. His assignments are too difficult. Easy to get an A if you put in the effort.
Dr. McGever assigns a lot of readings and notes are required before class but he is honestly the best professor. He is understanding and accepts everyone, he is truly the best professor to be teaching a class on religion. His class isn't extremely difficult just do the assignments and the readings he assigns. He wants everyone to succeed!
Professor McGever has been by far my favorite professor at GCU! While there is a lot of reading for the class itself, his lectures are engaging and interesting. I love how he genuinely cares about his students. He shows the love of Christ to his students in a way that no textbook ever could. Awesome professor and would highly, highly recommend!
Dr. McGever is the best professor I have ever had. He is so caring toward his students and is such a genuine person. I would take any other classes that he lectures.
This is an easy class if you read the works. It is a lot of writing and a LOT of reading. It's more time consuming than difficult. It is non stop reading of old hard to understand texts. McGever is a great professor. He talks a bit too much about himself, but he cares about you and your grade. I wouldn't take this class again but he's nice.
I had a rough start my first semester at the school since I got covid in the beginning I was very behind. I didn't feel I could catch up but he was very lenient about giving me time. He genuinely cares about students achieving in class. He is also comical and loves food. Don't be afraid to ask questions, readings were hard to comprehend at times.
Professor McGever was my favorite this semester. He actually cares about his students and really makes an effort to make the class enjoyable. He's also very gracious about extending projects for computer issues.
Great, respectful and knowledgeable Professor. Open to answering all questions about Christianity and gives multiple perspectives. Very engaging lectures! Easy assignments.
Dr. McGever is a fantastic professor that I would highly recommend taking. He is funny, entertaining, and makes the class easy for the students. He is a lightning-quick responder when it comes to email. He gives ok feedback on the assignments and he loves to geek out on theology. Ask him a question and be prepared to receive an in-depth response.
He assigned worksheets but if you pay attention to his lectures and slides then they get answered during class. Also he is pretty understanding and funny.
Just take him. You won't regret it. He's interesting, extremely knowledgeable, well-qualified, and funny.
Sean is very funny and always starts class asking how are weekend was and then transitioned in to class. The lectures can be lengthy but he gives you the answers to the seminar questions in his slides. He is very understanding and cares about his students and approachable outside of class.
Attendance is mandatory if you want to have a easy time passing the class. Most of the homework is answered in class, a lot of busy work like reading notes and exit tickets. Great guy and entertaining to listen and talk to.
Dr. McGever is a great professor. The lectures are engaging, and the tests are not very difficult. There is a lot of reading for participation points, which is the only reason I got an A- and not an A.
Professor McGever is a really strong and educated instructor. While the class was difficult in my opinion, it is very possible to get a good grade, as long as you dedicate time and effort to reading and becoming familiar with class materials and earning your participation. Overall I enjoyed this class with Professor McGever and would recommend him!
Dr. McGever is one of my favorite professors ever! He is super kind and caring, truly dedicating himself to the class and his students. He makes every class enjoyable, even if it's not a familiar topic to the students. As long as you pay attention and do the reading, it's very possible to get a good grade.
Dr. McGever is not only an amazing professor but an amazing Christian and human. He cares deeply about his students and their relationship with Jesus Christ. He is vulnerable about his own faith and life so that we can learn from him and he does such a great job at tying in the readings to our lives today. You won't regret taking Dr. McGever.
I always felt supported on the assignments and tests. The reading materials are difficult and we read a lot; however, he covers all the reading in class and clarifies the material. Along with that he cares so much about his students and always offers himself if you need help!
Professor McGever is one of my favorite professors ever. He is passionate about making sure his students understand and learn every topic. He makes every class a super fun, enjoyable environment. Lots of reading, but it's all interesting and applicable. Just do it, and you'll be fine. Ask him about his high school basketball team!
Professor McGever was by far one of the best professors I've had during my time at GCU. He's caring and lets his students know how much he wants them to succeed, and he is willing to help them with anything. He's very approachable and does not pressure anyone to believe in Christianity. 10/10 recommend taking his class!!
Dr. McGever is a great professor because he truly cares so much for his students. He grades assignments pretty lightly. If you complete assignments and use 1-2 references, you are gonna get a solid A. Definitely go to class as he does not post his lecture powerpoints, unfortunately. Lectures are a little scattered so take notes thoroughly
Dr. McGever is absolutely amazing. He didn't care about a student's faith and had no problems sharing about his own. Great guy, easy class but a lot of reading. He discusses the questions for assignments in class and gives you time to share thoughts with the person next to you. You can tell he genuinely cares and wants his classes to succeed.
McGever is an amazing professor. He really cares for the students and wants you to get a good grade. This class is not easy as far as the reading material goes. It is a ton of confusing material that is required to be read before each class.
Professor McGever is a phenomenal instructor! Every lecture he would give would give us useful knowledge on what the texts were talking about. He would also ensure these lectures were thoughtful and clear to us. He made a class that felt unnecessary to have to take to a necessary one in the case of the ideas these scholars had.
I loved Professor McGever! He really does care about his students and their lives. He always gave explicit instructions on every assignment and test, so there were never any surprises which is nice. There was a lot of assigned reading, but it was nothing too extensive. Overall, I would definitely recommend him!
Dr. McGever was one of my favorite teachers. He cares about your grades and yourself as a person. It was a very fun class, but I lacked participation because I was sick.
I absolutely love Professor McGever. He's truly just the best. He cares so much about the subject material and you can tell that his knowledge was earned through hard work. He focused more on making sure students were understanding the material rather than simply being a tough grader. Class was always so much fun with him! I would highly recommend.
Professor McGever goes above and beyond. He begins class by asking students about their weekends and shares some of his personal life. He asks very thoughtful questions and really cares about the being of his students. I would highly recommend McGever to anyone and wish I could take his class again!
Dr. McGever is the kindest, most thoughtful professor I have ever had. You can tell that he genuinely cares about every student individually and just wants you to learn. His lectures are incredibly informative and engaging. The Honors CWV class has a lot of reading that is overwhelming, but Dr. McGever goes over them adequately. Take Dr. McGever!
Professor McGever was one of my favorite professors during my first year at GCU. He's a down-to-earth professor that cares about his students and wants to see them succeed. He was very engaging throughout the classes and semester, and I could not recommend him enough if you are in the Honors College.
Sean is an amazing professor. It shows that he does truly care for his students. This class did not feel like an honors class to me because he created an environment where it was laid back and he honestly felt like a friend. Definitely recommend him as a professor.
He is nice, and there is never a dull moment. He makes it easy to understand the readings and has slides that you can take notes from. Fyi, there is a ton of reading. Besides the reading load, he makes the classroom very welcoming and fun. He is very interactive with the students and openly answers some students' questions.
Fantastic teacher, never avoided any questions, extremely educated yet almost never gives opinionated statements. Respectful and welcoming of everyone. The reading for this class was slightly intense but he made it much more clear through the lectures and slides. Would 100% take his class again.
Dr. McGever is one of the most intellectual and engaging professors I have received instruction under. His lectures compliment the material of the course well with thorough explanations that I could enjoy in detail. He is passionate about his line of work and a profound Christian. Highly recommend!
Pro tips: -Skim the readings, you aren't going to understand it anyways, so don't waste your time! He will go over it all in class. -Take decent notes, because you can use them on the first two exams -Answer the worksheet questions as you go over them in class -Somedays in this class, solitare, the snake game, and Wordle might be your best friend
Dr. McGever is a great professor and lecturer. He cares a lot about his students and shows them Christ without being forceful. Lots of reading, but it gets better throughout the semester. He does a good job of making the class fun even though some of the material is boring. Dr. McGever makes up for sometimes boring material with fun lectures.
I really enjoyed having him as my professor. He was fair and you could tell he really cared about what he was teaching. You can also tell he really knows his stuff so i found the lectures to be super informative and interesting.
Dr McGever was great for this class! His curriculum was phenomenal and extremely easy to follow. There is an expectation to read and learn from home but it was not a burden at all. All of his readings were relevant and somewhat light. If you're a fan of church history, Dr. McGever is the professor to take.
TAKE DR. MCGEVER FOR THIS COURSE. This course is known for its extensive readings, and he splits it up for you in a manageable way. He is engaging in his lectures and tries to make the course fun and relatable. He is also super knowledgeable about the content (meaning this class feels worth it).
Great professor, there is quite a bit of reading but nothing terrible.

Love Professor McGever! He is a clear communicator who will help you better understand the Christian Worldview, even if you are already a Christian. He never makes anyone feel uncomfortable about their degree of CWV knowledge, and is happy to answer any questions students may have. Truly cares for his students. Would take a class with him again!
Very good would recommend. easy class and good teaching.
Professor McGever is great! One of the best professors, if not the best, that I've had at GCU. He is super knowledgeable about what He is teaching. He has the credentials to teach and it shows. He is super friendly and makes class enjoyable. I would highly recommend Him to anyone and I wish I could take Him again!
Mr. McGever is awesome! I learned so much! His lectures are great! He is very clear about grading criteria. His tests are mostly open note. He truly cares about his students and makes class fun! Get ready to be mind blown! Take his class!
This professor is excellent in keeping informative and engaging topics while sharing about many deep theological topics. While the course might seem advanced, Dr. McGever takes it into bite-sized chucks that anyone can digest, especially with those who are new or unknowing about the Christian worldview and main doctrines. Very great teacher!
Lots of great topics and grading criteria was clear. I enjoyed most classes and he's fine as a teacher but many times comes across as arrogant. Be prepared to have handwritten exams.
If you can take one of his classes, DO! Dr. McGever genuinely cares for his students, their education, and their success. He caters his teaching to the individuals present, simply A GOOD TEACHER! I learned so much! Absolute favorite class!
Dr McGever cares more for his students than any other professor I have had, while also being knowledgeable and passionate about theology. I have learned endless amounts from his classes while he ensured that the knowledge would be helpful for us in the specific passions we had. He truly cares about what he is talking about and the well being of the people in his class. This professor has such a kind heart and a beautiful way of teaching.
AMAZING man. Very informative and extremely caring toward all his students. He is very good and passionate about what he does. He will always hear you out if you need something or are confused and he cares about students personal lives. He prayed with us for our last test which I really appreciated. 10/10.

He is more than qualified to teach the material and you can tell he is passionate about what we are learning.
